How to use adaptive cruise control on Mazda CX-3, CX-5, CX-9, CX-30, Mazda3 or Mazda6

Mazda Radar Cruise Control or MRCC with Stop-and-Go function reduces driver effort by automatically maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

A radar sensor in front of the car monitors the road ahead. When approaching a slower vehicle, the system automatically adjusts the speed of your car to maintain a safe following distance.

How to adjust gap: You can adjust this distance by using the up or down buttons on the steering wheel.

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

When the vehicle in front moves out of the way or you change lanes, Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control returns your car to the original set speed.

If the vehicle in front comes to a complete stop the system will slowly stop your car at safe distance behind. If rapid braking is required, to avoid a collision, MRCC will alert the driver to brake harder.

When the vehicle in front departs, the system will issue an alert, letting you know it is clear ahead. Once you tap or depress the accelerator, the system will automatically speed up to the preset speed or distance, depending on whether you are behind the slower vehicle.

Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go function is a part of i-ACTIVESENSE safety technology.

REVIEW: Mazda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (MRCC)

DON’T MISS: All-new and redesigned vehicles for 2021

Meet Mazda’s MRCC, or Mazda Radar Cruise Control. It’s designed like most other adaptive cruise control systems, in that it will match the speed of a vehicle in front of you.

You have 3 options for setting distance, which is easily set via the up and down buttons on the right side of the steering wheel (circled below).

Trusting the system

Trust in the system is earned after spending some time with it. For the first few uses, you will cover your foot over the brake pedal in anticipation of a failure, but in our tests, it never failed. Confidence grows with each use.

How does Mazda’s MRCC work?

MRCC uses radar sensors to judge the relative speed and distance to the car in front of it and adjusts the vehicle speed accordingly.

Note: this review was done on a 2018 Mazda CX-9.

Adaptive cruise control in stop-and-go traffic

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

  • Add to quote

I have a 2021 CX-30 Preferred and have a question about adaptive cruise control while in stop-and-go traffic. I tried it for the first time today (only got my car in August) and it worked well. However, I noticed that when my car would come to a complete stop, it would turn on the "Hold" light. When the car in front of me would resume driving, sometimes my Mazda would turn off the hold and resume driving on its own. However, at other times, the car in front would resume driving, and my car would emit a beep and would not drive. In these cases, I had to tap the accelerator, and my car would resume adaptive cruise control. Is there a specific situation in which the hold turns off on its own, or when it does not?

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

Perfectly normal. It will only resume automatically within 3 seconds, after that you have to either push the accelerator or push the RES button on the steering wheel.

Thanks, but I do not understand why it would sometimes resume driving on its own after being on "Hold", and sometimes it would not (in which case I would get the beep).

Like I said it will only automatically resume if it is within 3 seconds after coming to a stop.

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

Being one not to use this feature in stop and go traffic and not ever having used it, is this part of the TJA traffic jam assist? Never thought to try it, nor really understood its functions.🤷🏼‍♂️

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

Yes, when activated in slow heavy traffic, it will maintain distance, stop and resume, and keep you in the center of the lane. I’ve tried it a couple times, and it appears to do what it was designed to do, but I prefer to rely on my own systems (feet, hands, eyes).

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

If the car doesn't have TJA, it should turn off cruise under a certain speed.

Phids said: Since adaptive cruise control can bring the vehicle to complete stop, though, how would it be able to turn itself off at low speeds? I did see that the lowest max speed I can set is 19 mph, so perhaps that's what you mean? Click to expand...

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

As far as I am aware the cruise only works down to 19 mph on Manual cars. On the auto gears it works right down to zero mph.

You can set 19mph as your speed choice but adaptive cruise will match the speed of the car in front of you down to a stop or follow like a puppy if it doesn’t stop. But when able to go it will not exceed the speed you selected.

Question on 2018 CX-3 Radar Cruise Control

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

  • Add to quote

Hello! My wife drives a 2017 Soul Red GT AWD without the "Radar Cruise Control". Plus the manual driver seat height adjustment is lame - my wife needs more height adjustment. I want to upgrade her to the 2018 GT AWD with the Premium package which includes the "Radar Cruise Control". I drive a 2017 CX-5 GT AWD with the Radar Cruise Control. I like my CX-5's Cruise Control because it is "adaptive". It slows down and speeds up as traffic up front changes. It brakes and holds the brake at stops, then push a little gas and it goes and resumes the adaptive cruise control. Question: does the 2018 CX-3 "Radar Cruise Control" equivalent to my CX-5's "Radar Cruise Control" which adapts to speeds of vehicles up front? Thanks in advance.

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

PandaG, thank you for confirming that it is actually an adaptive cruise control. Yes, I love it on my CX-5. It adjust to the speed of the vehicle in front of you and when it is a complete stop, it will also hold the brake for you. When the traffic moves, you either press the resume button or step on the accelerator pedal a little bit to give it a nudge and then it goes with the traffic again! But be careful when following traffic going into a sharp bend!

And oh, I looked at the "Premium Package" detail on the 2018 CX-3 GT, it has "Traffic sign recognition". I think this is making more drivers very dependent on technology while driving!

Oh yes, I did not try the holding thing however as I always have a habit of turning it off completely as soon as traffic is heavier. I did notice going around a bend that the radar gets a little confused, but that is to be expected really. Sure is a treat along with all the rest of the iActiveSense features though!

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

Be aware that the adaptive cruise control on the CX-3 doesn't work below 20mph (unless that has been changed on the 2018 version), so it's not 100% identical to the one in the 2018 CX-5.

PandaG, please confirm this. My CX-5 comes to a complete stop when the car in front of me stops and holds the brake. When the car in front goes, all I have to do is press the resume button or step a little on the accelerator pedal to give it a nudge and it goes and maintains distance from the car in front. The distance depends on the distance setting that you have set. I used to own a Subaru Crosstrek with "Eyesight". The "adaptive" cruise control of that vehicle disengages when the speed falls below 20 mph and you have to take over and be ready to stop if the car in front stops. If the 2018 CX-3 Radar Cruise Control is like this, I'd be disappointed. http://www.cx3forum.com/forum/images/CX3Forum_2014/icons/post_thumbsdown.png

adaptive cruise control mazda cx 3

My 2016 radar cruise won't go below 18 mph. However, I believe this was changed with the 2018 version. Also, the radar transciever is in the Mazda emblem on the front grill. During that period after snowfall when the roads are wet with salty water, it will stop working due to salt buildup on the emblem.

MAXIMIZE YOUR   POTENTIAL FOR   PEACE   OF MIND AND THE FREEDOM   TO FOCUS

Feeling safe gives you the freedom to be the best driver you can be, to concentrate on enjoying the road ahead and feel your spirits lifted by the experience of driving a MAZDA. That’s why we focus not just on what safety prevents, but also on what it makes possible.

SAVING AND ENRICHING LIVES

SAVING AND ENRICHING LIVES

For MAZDA, making safer cars is about more than just protecting the people riding in them. Our vision is for a world with no road accidents, where all road users are safe, and drivers’ lives are enriched by the freedom and joy that driving provides.

SAVING AND ENRICHING LIVES

OUR HUMAN-CENTRIC APPROACH TO SAFETY MAXIMIZE YOUR   POTENTIAL

We make cars with advanced safety features that are inspiring to drive so you can confidently maintain control and enjoy every moment on the road. You can maximize your potential by enjoying a focus on driving, providing a smooth ride for your passengers and sharing the experience of each journey, and be reassured that MAZDA’s safety features will help prevent accidents, protecting you and those around you.

OUR PHILOSOPHY OUR PROACTIVE   SAFETY VISION

MAZDA’s safety philosophy is based on understanding, respecting, and trusting the driver. To drive safely you need to be able to spot potential hazards and use your best judgement to react accordingly. We also understand that you are only human and that accidents can happen, despite best intentions, so we have a range of technologies that help to prevent mishaps or reduce the damage done. We call our vision MAZDA PROACTIVE SAFETY.

WHAT MAZDA’S SAFETY   TECHNOLOGIES   AIM TO PROVIDE

OUR PROACTIVE SAFETY VISION

  • BASIC SAFETY
  • PREVENTIVE SAFETY
  • COLLISION SAFETY

LOW RISK:BASIC SAFETY

BASIC SAFETY   TECHNOLOGIES

At the heart of Proactive Safety is something you might not even think of as safety-related—making your MAZDA as intuitive and enjoyable to drive as possible. From excellent visibility to the perfect driving position to the car’s dynamic performance on the road, getting these basics right is essential to give you confidence and enjoyment behind the wheel.

Find out more

MAZDA trusts drivers.  By paying attention to every detail of the driving experience we can ensure that you are involved, entertained, and uplifted by driving a MAZDA, and fully focused on the road.  As an example, the driving position is configured to keep your joints at a natural angle, making you more comfortable on long journeys and enabling you to be more agile in an emergency.  MAZDA uses an organ-pedal style of accelerator that is designed to reduce fatigue, and the MAZDA instrument panels are designed to provide clear, easy-to-read information without having to divert your eyes from the road.

PREVENTIVE SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES

PREVENTIVE SAFETY   TECHNOLOGIES

Should the unexpected happen, MAZDA Advanced Safety Technologies will be there to support you. This suite of features includes hazard alerts, such as Blind Spot Monitoring and 360-Degree View Monitor to help you spot and avoid potential dangers, and driver assists to help you keep control in an emergency, alongside additional aids like Smart Brake Support that can avoid collisions or reduce their severity in some situations. All of these features and many more are designed to assist the driver, not take away control.

MAZDA vehicles are equipped with a wide array of driver aids and safety features to help avoid accidents. Examples include Adaptive LED Headlights, Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, 360-Degree View Monitor, Smart Brake Support, Radar Cruise Control, and Driver Monitoring.

COLLISION SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES

COLLISION SAFETY   TECHNOLOGIES

If an accident is unavoidable then you can rest assured that your MAZDA has been designed to give you the very best protection. Impact-energy-absorbing features are built into the body, and every MAZDA includes a suite of secondary safety equipment such as seat-belt pretensioners and multiple airbags; even emergency services can be alerted.

The Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture that underpins our cars has been designed to absorb energy, reducing the risk of injury, and our Emergency Call System can automatically call for help.

EVERYDAY SAFETY

EVERYDAY SAFETY

Every time you drive your MAZDA you can be confident it will respond intuitively to your command. Settled into a driving position designed for ideal visibility and long-distance comfort, you are in control, with the reassurance that MAZDA’s safety features are there if you need help.

HOW IT WORKS:DRIVING POSITION

HOW IT WORKS:DRIVING POSITION

MAZDA engineers studied the human body to design the perfect driving position. In a MAZDA you’re seated so that your muscles are relaxed but ready to react and positioned so that your line of sight gives you a good view of the road ahead.

G-VECTORING CONTROL

G-VECTORING CONTROL

By subtly controlling engine torque as you turn into a corner, a small forward weight transfer occurs, allowing the tire to give its optimal performance. The car responds intuitively to the first steering input and negotiates the corner smoothly without corrections, making the driver and passengers feel safe.

CRASH PROTECTION

CRASH PROTECTION

SOMETIMES ACCIDENTS ARE UNAVOIDABLE. THAT’S WHERE MAZDA’S INDUSTRY-LEADING CRASH PROTECTION COMES INTO ITS OWN TO HELP KEEP YOU SAFE.

SKYACTIV-VEHICLE ARCHITECTURE

SKYACTIV-VEHICLE ARCHITECTURE

MAZDA cars are strong and lightweight. By using materials such as high tensile steel in areas of the body structure, engineers ensure that the car absorbs impact energy without adding extra weight.

MULTIPLE SRS* AIRBAGS

Airbags have long been a crucial part of crash protection. MAZDA uses driver and passenger airbags, plus multiple airbags to protect all occupants. *Supplemental Restraint System

EXTRA EYES ON THE ROAD

EXTRA EYES ON THE ROAD

MAZDA vehicles are designed for all-round visibility, and also come equipped with a number of ingenious electronic systems, such as a 360-Degree View Monitor, to help drivers see clearly.

SMART BRAKE SUPPORT

SMART BRAKE SUPPORT

MAZDA’s Smart Brake Support uses a front camera and milliwave radar. If the system detects an imminent crash, it will ready the brakes to apply maximum stopping power. If the driver doesn’t react, it automatically hits the brakes and reduces engine power to reduce the impact.

ACCELERATION CONTROL

ACCELERATION CONTROL

For cars fitted with automatic transmissions, MAZDA’s Acceleration Control system uses a camera and sonar sensors to detect obstacles, and prevents the driver from accidentally accelerating into them from a standstill.

2025 Mazda 3 corrects course, price cut $200 to $25,135

2025 Mazda3

Email This Page

  • Mazda cut the price of the sedan and hatchback by $200
  • The pricing strategy keeps it competitive with other entry-level cars
  • 2025 Mazda 3 hatchback arrives this summer, followed by the sedan in the fall

Mazda cut the price of the Mazda 3 compact sedan and hatchback by $200, the brand disclosed last week. That brings the starting price down to $25,135 , including a higher destination fee from last year of $1,185. Higher trims have a price increase of about $200 or so.

While Mazda streamlines the 2025 trim lines, the only content changes are the addition of Alexa Built-in voice commands on higher models as well as a navigation system with over-the-air updates. The hatchback arrives this summer with a $1,000-$1,350 upcharge (depending on trim level) over the sedan, which goes on sale this fall.

The Mazda 3 hasn't been redesigned since 2020, so it's either due for an update or a departure from the U.S. market in the near future.

The price cut is a welcome reversal from the 2024 Mazda 3 price increase of $1,620 that made the entry-level model significantly more expensive than the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra. As Mazda pushes into the premium segment with new products such as the 2025 Mazda CX-70 and related 2024 Mazda CX-90 crossover SUVs, it still sees value in offering a value to customers with the Mazda 3.

It's now priced $210 less than the refreshed 2025 Honda Civic , but the 2024 Hyundai Elantra remains the price leader in the segment with a starting price of $22,775.

Hyundai and Honda offer their entry-level cars with a hybrid option, as does Toyota with the Corolla, but Mazda sticks with the same two engine choices this year. Mazda 3 2.5 S models use a 2.5-liter inline-4 making 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels, except on the Premium grade that swaps in a 6-speed manual on hatchback models only. All-wheel drive is limited to Carbon and 2.5 Turbo models.

Turbo models use a 2.5-liter turbo-4 that generates 227 hp and 310 lb-ft (250 hp and 320 lb-ft with 93-octane fuel).

Standard driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, a rear seat alert, and automatic high beams. Standard convenience features include cloth upholstery, 16-inch wheels, keyless start, and a convoluted 8.8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto .

The 2.5 S Select Sport costs $26,675 ($1,300 more for the hatchback) this year. It upgrades to 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and has synthetic leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and keyless entry.

The 2.5 S Preferred runs from $27,525 for the sedan to $28,875 for the hatchback. Standard features include a sunroof, synthetic leather, heated front seats, and a power driver seat.

The 2025 Mazda 3 2.5 S Carbon Edition has standard all-wheel drive and costs $30,595 for the sedan or $1,150 more for the hatch.

The 2.5 S Premium only comes with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual and only as a hatchback, and costs $31,835.

The 2.5 Turbo models start with the 2.5 Carbon Turbo model with standard all-wheel drive and a price of $33,285 for the sedan; the hatchback is $1,150 more. Black trim elements complement 18-inch black metallic wheels on the outside, and the inside features a 10.3-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless smartphone charging .

The top-of-the line 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus costs $36,985 for the sedan and $1,150 more for the hatchback. Standard features include a Bose 12-speaker sound system , a surround-view camera system, rear parking sensors, navigation, and traffic sign recognition.

What Makes The Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Special

Mazda will soon unveil its flagship plug-in hybrid model in the United States, the 2024 CX-90 three-row SUV. This anticipated debut is scheduled for next month. In addition, to the announced inline-six engine, Mazda has also confirmed that the CX-90 will be available with a PHEV option , adding more excitement to its upcoming release. To give us a glimpse of its design, Mazda has shared a sneak peek of the end, featuring an "e-SKYACTIV - PHEV" badge adorned with attractive blue accents. While Mazda suggests that there may be variations in specifications for the U.S., anticipation is running high for the arrival of the CX 90 PHEV and its promise to deliver an exceptional driving experience on American roads.

The CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Is Fairly Powerful And Fast Despite Its Size

The Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid offers a remarkable blend of performance, cutting-edge engine technology, and impressive horsepower. At the heart of its prowess lies the innovative PHEV powertrain, which marks Mazda's first foray into the plug-in hybrid realm in the U.S. automotive market. Under the hood, the CX-90 PHEV showcases a meticulously engineered combination of a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine and an electric motor working in harmonious synchrony.

This power duo synergizes to unleash an exhilarating 323 horsepower and a formidable 369 pound-feet of torque , ensuring a thrilling driving experience that surpasses expectations. Even with its large size, it can still manage 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is quite impressive. The eight-speed automatic transmission allows the CX-90's engine to operate at optimal speed range to improve fuel economy. However, the transmission has been criticized for not being smooth, and we hope Mazda will prioritize addressing the issue before it's too late.

Mazda CX-90 Plug-In Hybrid Specs

If you live in the city, the 17.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack presents you with the option to rid the environment of unnecessary emissions. With an estimated electric-only range of around 26 miles, the CX-90 PHEV can comfortably meet your daily city commute needs. And if you are planning to use it on long trips, the combined electric and gas range of 490 miles will serve you perfectly well, even in remote areas with scarce refilling stations. This makes it an attractive option for eco-conscious drivers who refuse to compromise on power.

The CX-90 PHEV Is Versatile

The Mazda CX-90's exterior boasts a design language that strikes the perfect balance between high-performance aesthetics and world-class refinement. With its wider body and longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor , the SUV exudes a sense of presence and elegance on the road. The carefully sculpted fenders and tasteful chrome accents emphasize its curves while creating a captivating visual appeal that leaves a lasting impression. The CX-90's exterior stands out in its signature Artisan Red color, which adds a touch of class and exclusivity to the SUV. This unique hue elevates the CX-90's status as a sophisticated and stylish option in its segment and ultimately makes it an attractive choice for discerning buyers.

Step inside, and the CX-90 PHEV continues to impress with its exceptional interior craftsmanship . Mazda has a well-earned reputation for creating luxurious and premium cabins, and the CX-90 is no exception. The Premium Plus trim, in particular, stands out with its fine Nappa leather upholstery, available in both black and white, providing a truly indulgent experience for passengers. Mazda's attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the interior design, from the tactile and well-laid-out control buttons to the inspired interior stitching, which draws inspiration from Japanese bookbinding techniques.

he result is an inviting and upscale environment that rivals higher-priced luxury SUVs. While the CX-90's interior exudes luxury and sophistication, it also prioritizes practicality. The rear doors open wide, facilitating the installation of bulky child safety seats. For those seeking to tow, the available towing package enables it to haul trailers and other equipment for adventurous trips. By increasing the tow rating from 3,500 to 5,000 pounds, the Mazda CX-90 set itself apart from many of its rivals in the SUV segment. These features make it a truly special family-friendly option.

Mazda Did Well With Interior Space And Technology

Inside the CX-90's cabin, technology seamlessly integrates with luxury. The low-profile center screen and crisp digital instrument panel display, especially in higher trims, exude a modern and sophisticated ambiance. For audiophiles, the Bose audio system immerses passengers in an auditory delight by filling the cabin with exceptional sound quality. The CX-90 offers a comprehensive suite of advanced driver aids that provide drivers with added peace of mind on the road. They include:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping assistance
  • Blind-spot warning

While the CX-90 impresses with its tech offerings, its storage capabilities are equally noteworthy. The SUV caters to the needs of families, making it easy to install bulky child safety seats with its wide-opening rear doors. However, the CX-90's true forte lies in its smart use of space. Despite its wider body and longer wheelbase, the CX-90 PHEV manages to maintain an elegant and well-proportioned exterior without compromising on interior functionality. The interior design optimizes usable storage space, providing ample room for odds and ends and catering to the everyday practicality sought by drivers in this segment.

While the cargo space may not lead the pack, it still offers a respectable capacity, and folding down the third row opens up more room for hauling larger items. The CX-90 may not be the largest in its class, but its emphasis on thoughtful design ensures that it provides practicality without sacrificing style.
