This 90-minute tour takes place on both land and water, beginning right in the heart of the city centre.

Here you will learn about the diversity, the geothermal areas and the rich history and Maori culture that makes this place a unique destination.

The tour then venture out of town to visit the spectacular ‘lakes district’ where you will experience a SPLASHDOWN into Lake Tikitapu, Lake Okareka, with a stunning backdrop of Mount Tarawera.

Please dress to the conditions. Because it is an open vehicle it could get breezy so bring a jacket. Don't forget your camera!

    Can we bring food on the Duck?

Drinks are allowed and snack food for children.

    Is there any age restrictions?

The Duck is suitable for all ages from very young to very old. Infants even though they may be sitting on a parents lap are actually assigned a seat on the duck.

    How many people are on a tour?

The maximum capacity of the Duck is 28 seats.

    Can you take people in wheelchairs?

Duck Tours does not cater for wheel chair access. However we can assist people on who are wheel chair bound as long as you do not mind being assisted. Wheelchairs are left at the Rotorua I-Site in secure storage.

Rotorua Duck Tours has been in operation for 21 years and provides amphibious sightseeing tours of Rotorua and surrounding lakes in NZ’s only WWII Landing Crafts. We have two Ducks with a combined capacity of 56.

Rotorua’s spectacular lakes district is home to lush forests, geothermal hot spots and 18 sparkling crater lakes. These stunning lakes were formed over thousands of years by catastrophic volcanic events and are now considered taonga(treasures) to New Zealanders. Being able to view these spectacular lakes from both land and water provides you with a truly unique understanding of the beauty of our lakes district.

The tours depart from a central city location at regular intervals throughout the day and are fully guided by experienced and knowledgeable guides that will keep you engaged and entertained for the entire journey. With two different tours to choose from our tours are suitable for families through to seniors and groups. The tours operate all year round and we have roll down sides for rainy days. Bookings are essential.

About the Tour

This tour is broken into two parts which includes a tour through the city, it’s amazing gardens, iconic buildings, and geothermal areas before heading out for Splashdown into two of Rotorua’s most stunning lakes.

The lakes part of the tour includes splashdown onto Tikitapu and Ōkāreka, magnificent views of Mt Tarawera and lush native forests. Our guides will take you on a journey that everyone who joins us will remember. They will show you the sights and tell you all about what you’re seeing but the most amazing thing is that they will do it while everyone has a laugh. You’ll understand when you experience it that it’s the perfect blend of history and humour! We are all about showing people a good time.

Our passion for our lakes and our area will put a smile on your face as you experience it with us on your journey. You’re travelling through volcanic craters in a genuine WW2 landing craft, seeing the awe on people’s faces as you splash down into the water. You literally can’t find this anywhere else in the world!
