ASCS National Tour Format Hits Refresh

ascs national tour

CONCORD, NC – Starting at Super Bee Speedway this weekend, the American Sprint Car Series National Tour will utilize a new nightly format.

“We’re moving in the direction we feel best for the series and its drivers,” said ASCS competition/technical director Cody Cordell. “We’re excited for a little change and looking forward to the next chapter of the American Sprint Car Series.”

Based on the format used by the former All Star Circuit of Champions, with some changes in place, the nightly run of events will go as follows:

2024 ASCS National Tour Race Format:

• 2-lap Time Trials (1-3 cars at a time)

• Qualify only against cars that will be in your Hot Lap group and Heat Race.

• Qualifying order will be determined by draw.

• Heats are straight up by time, except for the fastest qualifier in each group/Heat, which will invert to the 4th starting position.

• The penalty for missed Time Trial position, with a two (2) car grace, is one (1) timed lap at the end of qualifying – best you can start your Heat Race is fifth. If for any reason a car takes one lap at the end of qualifying, the car’s time will not be used for Dash eligibility, the car must win its Heat to make the Dash.

• The Heat winner and the quickest transfer from each Heat will have a random draw for Dash starting position. When using a two- and three-Heat format, the quickest Heat qualifier must finish in the top five and on the lead lap of their qualifying heat to remain eligible for the Dash. The finish of the Dash will set the top starting positions of the Feature. There is one five-lap Dash.

• If the quickest Heat qualifier (4th starter) also wins the heat, then that will be the only car from that heat to go into the dash draw. If the quickest heat qualifier (4th starter) does not qualify through their Heat, the Heat winner and next faster qualifier that qualified through their Heat Race will transfer to the Dash.

• Non-dash cars that qualify for the Feature are lined up by Heat Race finish behind the Dash cars (2nd place finishers, then 3rd place finishers, then 4th place finishers etc.)

• Starting position amongst the same place finishing cars will be determined by overall qualifying time.

• Top 2 qualifiers from overall Time Trials not transferring to the Feature will occupy the front row of the Last Chance Showdown. Remaining non-transfer cars are lined up in the Last Chance Showdown, C, & D-Mains up by Heat Race finish.

• D-Main event transfers (2) tag the back of the C-Main event by finish position. • C-Main event transfers (2) tag the back of the Last Chance Showdown event by finish position. • Last Chance Showdown event transfers tag (4,6 or 7) the back of the Feature event by finish position.

• 22 Feature starters + Provisionals

This format is for ASCS National Tour events only. ASCS Regional events will follow the traditional draw/passing point system. Questions regarding the format can be directed to Cody Cordell at (918) 407-1879, or  [email protected] .

The 2024 American Sprint Car Series National Tour begins on Friday-Saturday, April 19-20, at Super Bee Speedway in Chatham, La.

The 2024 season marks the 33rd season of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours encompassing Wing and Non-Wing competition.

ASCS National Tour Returns to Oklahoma For Red Dirt Raceway Debut

More than 200 checkered flags have been claimed in Oklahoma with the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, and on Friday, May 10, one will be claimed at Red Dirt Raceway for the first time.

The National Tour will make its debut at the 1/4-mile track in Meeker, OK, for the second race of the 2024 season – joined by the ASCS Sooner Region.

After the first race of the season at Super Bee Speedway in April, drivers with Oklahoma connections will be poised for a home state win. Leading that charge will be Seth Bergman, driving for the Oklahoma City-based TwoC Racing team.

He scored the first win of the season and currently holds an eight-point lead over Rookie of the Year contender Andrew Deal.

The American Sprint Car Series has made one appearance at Red Dirt Raceway with the former Red River Region in 2018. That race was also won by Bergman.

Tickets for the event at Red Dirt Raceway can be purchased in advance HERE . If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision .

Follow the biggest storylines of the weekend:

TWO FOR TWO(C)? All stats point to Seth Bergman, of Snohomish, WA, as a leading favorite for Friday’s event. He opened the 2024 season for the ASCS Sooner Region with a win at Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway and then won the season opener for the National Tour at Super Bee Speedway – now leading the points in both divisions.

Bergman opened the National Tour season, driving the No. 2C Sprint Car for TwoC Racing while 2000 ASCS National Tour champion Wayne Johnson recovered from an arm injury. But with Johnson’s injury hindering him from returning to the seat, Bergman will continue to pilot the car with Johnson serving as his crew chief.

STRONG STARTS While Seth Bergman walked away with the win at Super Bee Speedway, several other drivers had strong showings, ranging from rookies to Series veterans.

2024 Rookie of the Year contender Andrew Deal, of Caney, KS, came out of the gate strong, qualifying second to Bergman in their qualifying group, won his Heat Race, finished second in the Dash and then finished second in the Feature. It was his career-best finish with the National Tour and second career top-five finish with the tour – his first top five came at Oklahoma’s Lawton Speedway last year. He’s no stranger to winning in Oklahoma too, having won with the ASCS Sooner Region at Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway in 2023.

Deal will enter Friday’s race with some experience at Red Dirt Raceway, having ran with the ASCS Red River Region there in 2018. He finished 15th.

Reigning ASCS National Tour champion Jason Martin, of Liberal, KS, put on a show at Super Bee, making a charge from 22nd to fourth. He’s coming off a career year with the National Tour, having won nine races en route to his first title in 2023. Of those nine victories, three came in Oklahoma – two at Longdale Speedway and one at the Salina Highbanks Speedway.

Like Deal, Martin also has laps around Red Dirt Raceway. Recent laps too. He ran a national 410 Sprint Car race there last month. He finished 25th after being involved in an accident.

OKLAHOMA NATIVES Of the 14 confirmed full-time regulars with the ASCS National Tour this year, four call Oklahoma home – Brandon Anderson (Glenpool, OK), Matt Covington (Glenpool, OK), Hank Davis (Sand Springs, OK) and Terry Easum (Broken Arrow, OK).

Covington is in his 11th straight full-time season with the ASCS National Tour and is coming off a career-best year, having finished second in points with three wins – now at 19 National Tour wins overall. He’s also a two-time ASCS Sooner Region champion. The veteran had a quiet start to the season with a sixth-place finish at Super Bee.

Anderson started off his second full-time season with the National Tour strong at Super Bee, finishing fifth. While he’s still looking for his first National Tour win, he’s no stranger to winning in Oklahoma as three of his five ASCS Sooner Region victories came in the Sooner State.

Davis and Easum are both running for the Rookie of the Year title this season. Easum had the better finish of the two at Super Bee, finishing 11th, while Davis missed the Feature. However, Davis enters Friday’s race with an upper hand in the statistics category, having won in Oklahoma with the ASCS Sooner Region last year at Creek County Speedway.

Mickey Walker Classic Among Updates To 2023 ASCS National Schedule

Bryan Hulbert – DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (April 24, 2023) Several events have been updated on the 2023 American Sprint Car Series National Tour lineup.

Among those is the Micky Walker Classic on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3. The only time in 2023 Outlaw Motor Speedway will see action, the three-eighths-mile oval located just south of Muskogee will take the Friday portion, with Saturday’s action going to Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan. Both nights pay $4,222 to win, $400 to start. Terry Mattox is promoting both nights.

“Mickey was my best friend, and being able to race in his honor means a lot to his family and me. Kind of a wrench in the mix having to move the race, but thankfully we got something figured out this year. I understand Creek needs to fulfill their contract in rescheduling their Monster Truck show to that date. It happens, but the Mickey Walker Classic will be back at his home track next year,” stated Terry.

Despite being shuttered, the Outlaw Motor Speedway owners have continued maintaining the track. Putting the facility in near race-ready condition, there is a small amount of tidying up that needs to be done.

“I was shocked when I saw the track graded, watered, and otherwise ready to go. Outside of some mowing and general cleanup, they’ve kept the facility in working order, so we will go for it and bring racing to Outlaw at least once in 2023.”

Able to reschedule a date at Creek County Speedway this season, the tour will invade on Thursday, June 15, for a three-night stretch that includes the series return to Humboldt Speedway on Friday, June 16, and 81 Speedway on Saturday, June 17. Each night will pay $4,000 to win, $400 to start.

The Gary Scott Memorial at Moberly Motorsports Park is next on the 2023 lineup. Unfortunately, the event will now be a Saturday-only affair. Terry Mattox is currently talking to another Missouri oval to take the series to on Friday, May 12. That information will be released once finalized.

Terry is also working on filling in some open dates to make up for events lost at the start of the 2023 season to weather.

A reminder that single-night shows in 2023 have been raised to $4,000 to win, $400 to start. The only time a show is $3,000 to win is a preliminary night on a multi-day event at the same track.

The 2023 season will mark the 32nd year of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours that encompass both wing and non-wing competition.

ASCS National Tour Format Gets Refresh For 2024 Season

Published on

ascs national tour

CONCORD, NC (April 16, 2024) – Starting at Super Bee Speedway this weekend, the American Sprint Car Series National Tour will utilize a new nightly format.

Questions regarding the format can be directed to Cody Cordell at (918) 407-1879, or [email protected].

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
