I highly recommend this travel agent

I highly recommend this travel agent. I went to the Vélez Malaga branch at the beginning of December 2021 to arrange flights to Australia and I found Sergio to be very efficient, polite and friendly. He speaks some English and he did his upmost to find me the flights that suited my needs and then followed up with after sales care by advising me on baggage allowance, seat allocation, boarding pass and documentation for Australia. Thank you Sergio. Excellent service!

I highly recommend this travel agent

Luxury furniture brand Oka, which was founded by a British aristocrat , is closing its stores in the US and filing for bankruptcy .

The high-end furniture retailer said it is closing its branches in Dallas , Houston and Westport in Connecticut with immediate effect.

Workers at the Westport store were reportedly told last week that they no longer had jobs and were not given any prior warning, according to the Westport Journal .

The company was founded by Viscountess Annabel Astor, a member of the British nobility and mother of Samantha Cameron, who is married to former prime minister David Cameron.

Astor founded the brand in 1999 along with her sister-in-law designer Sue Jones and Lucinda Waterhouse, a skilled horticulturist, but sold the company to Italian firm Invest Industrial in 2018 for around $51m.

The 75-year-old remained on the board until May this year, when she resigned after reportedly clashing with the company’s new owners over their rapid expansion in the US.

After trading successfully in the UK for 20 years, the company began expanding into the US in 2019, opening three stores.

But the US arm of the company has now been forced to close after it began racking up costs when it bought US furniture/interiors brand Wisteria in 2019.

In 2021, the company took out an $11.5m loan to help stem spiraling losses.

Meanwhile, owners reportedly turned down Astor’s proposal to lead a management buyout with family money. The price of the offer was not disclosed.

Following her resignation from the board, Astor said she was “sad” to leave the company but had an idea for a new business.

Amid Oka’s financial woes, the company will now wind up operations in the US, and file for bankruptcy while it undergoes a restructuring in the UK, a spokesperson for the luxury brand said.

“After extensive evaluation, it was determined that filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy was the most viable option due to the ongoing challenges to establish the business in the U.S. region. This decision was made at this stage to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations and to manage financial obligations responsibly. [Oka’s focus is] on continuing to invest in growing its core market in the U.K.,” the company said in an email.

The luxury brand is also expected to file for a Company Voluntary Agreement, a variant of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, which could see Oka close one of its 13 UK stores and lay off up to 38 staff.

“Under the CVA, the Company is proposing a restructure of its key operational costs, including its distribution centre, and one of its head offices, affecting 33 employees. One store closure is currently planned within the proposals for the CVA, affecting 5 employees,” a spokesperson for the company said.

FDA warns maker of Sara Lee and Entenmann's not to claim foods contain allergens when they don't

F ederal food safety regulators said Tuesday that they have warned a top U.S. bakery to stop using labels that say its products contain potentially dangerous allergens when they don't.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspectors found that Bimbo Bakeries USA — which includes brands such as Sara Lee, Oroweat, Thomas', Entenmann's and Ball Park buns and rolls — listed ingredients such as sesame or tree nuts on labels even when they weren't in the foods.

Under FDA regulations, such products are “misbranded," FDA officials said in a warning letter sent to officials at the company’s Horsham, Pennsylvania, headquarters earlier this month.

“Food labels must be truthful and not misleading,” officials said. The warning followed inspections late last year at Bimbo plants in Phoenix, Arizona, and Topeka, Kansas, that make Sara Lee and Brownberry breads.

In addition, FDA officials indicated that allergen labeling is a “not a substitute” for preventing cross-contamination in factories.

Advocates with the nonprofit group FARE, Food Allergy Research & Education, said such labeling “does a disservice” to the estimated 33 million people in the U.S. with food allergies. Those consumers have to be constantly aware of foods that can cause potentially life-threatening allergic reactions, said Sung Poblete, FARE's chief executive.

“Our community relies on accurate product labeling for their health and safety,” Poblete said in an email. “These findings about Bimbo Bakeries’ products undermine their trust and further limit their choices.”

Bimbo, a Mexico City-based food giant, bills its U.S. operations as the largest commercial baking company in the country. In an email, company officials said they “take their role in protecting consumers with allergen sensitivities very seriously” and that they are corresponding with FDA to resolve the issue.

Concerns over labels at Bimbo and other companies followed a law that took effect in 2022, which added sesame to the list of major allergens that must be listed on packaging.

Because it can be difficult and expensive to keep sesame in one part of a baking plant out of another, some companies began adding small amounts of sesame to products that didn't previously contain the ingredient to avoid liability and cost. FDA officials said that violated the spirit, but not the letter, of federal regulations.

Some companies, including Bimbo, began listing allergens such as sesame on labels as a “precaution” in case of cross-contamination.

FDA officials acknowledged Tuesday that statements that a product “may contain” certain allergens “could be considered truthful and not misleading.” Bimbo officials have until July 8 to identify steps taken to remedy the issue — or to explain why the labeling doesn't violate FDA standards.

Verizon introduces new customer-first programs and benefits, refreshes the brand

NEW YORK - Verizon is announcing new programs and benefits that continue to give customers more choices and flexibility, and advance the momentum in the business. This point can be divisive among beverage experts, but really? You can go for either lined or unlined mugs.

“I prefer unlined mugs that are made out of 100% copper,” says Torner, explaining that the trend of lined mugs began from claims that copper leaches into drinks. “While it’s true that copper reacts with acidic liquids, the trace levels of copper that may be consumed from the chemical reactions are so minuscule that you’d have to drink several dozen beverages from your copper mug every day before it became a concern.”

Torner also reminds us that the body requires trace amounts of copper to maintain healthy cell growth and help avoid illnesses. In other words, you don’t need to worry if your copper Moscow Mule mugs are unlined.

Handle Strength

The handles on some Moscow Mule mugs are riveted, while others are welded. Welded handles are stronger and thus longer-lasting, but unless your mugs are going to be in heavy use — which is more likely in a bar than a home setting — you’ll be fine with either.

Ease of Cleaning

It’s unlikely you’ll find a Moscow Mule mug you can toss in the dishwasher without a second thought. Mugs made of real copper should be hand-washed, and those that are lacquered should still be washed by hand to maintain the integrity of the finish.

“Copper cups are the ideal vessel for a Moscow Mule because of two things. First, copper conducts temperature well, so when an ice-cold drink is put inside, the material actually absorbs that temperature and keeps the drink cold for longer. Second, there’s evidence to suggest that the copper interacts with the drink and intensifies the tart flavors of ginger and lime.”

It doesn’t have to be, but for the reasons above, a Moscow Mule is just better when enjoyed from a copper mug. If nothing else, enjoy it for the chill factor. 

“The thermal conductivity of copper is 20 times that of stainless steel,” says Torner.

Copper mugs should be washed by hand with warm, soapy water, then rinsed and dried thoroughly. Some mugs are dishwasher-safe, but handwashing may prolong their finish.

Starbucks is struggling. It has strayed from its successful strategy of offering customers exceptional experiences and, in the process, has commoditized itself. Starbucks is in trouble again. In its last quarterly-earnings report , it announced disappointing results, including a 4% drop in same-store sales (11% in China, its second-biggest market).
