Discover the dramatic coastal scenery of the uncrowded and charming Connemara region that maintains so many of the wonderful traditions of Ireland.  View the  majestic Cliffs of Moher and the  stunning Killarney National Park as your experienced driver/guide ensures a vacation that has your unique pace, interests, and schedule in mind.   Prefer to linger a bit here,  have “one more round” there – not a problem.  For inspiration, we’ve set out a sample itinerary below, but let us customize this tour for you to ensure you have just the sort of Ireland vacation you’ve dreamed of.

Pub Tour Itinerary

Overnight: Park House, Galway with breakfast included.

 Today sit back and enjoy a scenic ride in the beautiful Connemara area.  You’ll see lovely coves, bays, and fishing villages   along the way.  There’s plenty of choices in the coastal town of Clifden to enjoy a pint and lunch.  Lowry’s Bar serves Connemara smoked salmon.  You might want to visit the Kylemore Abbey and Garden, or Cong; famous for the Quietman movie.  Back in Galway for the evening check out more of the pubs for an evening of “Craic”.  If you’re traveling through Galway Naughtons is a must-visit while you’re in town and come highly recommended by Isle Inn Tours’ resident “Galway Girl”. Naughtons is one of the best pubs in Galway city, located on the corner of Cross St. and Quay St. in the heart of the Latin Quarter. With it’s interior mostly unchanged since 1894 this pub is full of tradition and is regularly the scene of impromptu traditional music sessions. They serve a great pint of Guinness! And they stock over 130 whiskeys, so there’s another reason to visit.

Today you’ll continue your Pub Tour heading south to Killarney.  Don’t miss the iconic Cliff’s of Moher with their breathtaking 700 ft cliffs.  Close to the Cliff’s of Moher is the  historic mysterious Burren National park and the charming little town of Doolin where you’ll want to stop for lunch.  Continuing on to Killarney if time permits stop in at Foynes Flight Museum.  You’ll learn the history of how the first Irish Coffee in Ireland was invented and have the opportunity to enjoy one of the delicious brews.  Check into the Great Southern Hotel and get ready for another evening of fun in this exciting little town full of pubs.  The Whiskey Corner , Situated in a corner of the Punchbowl Bar has a whiskey tasting bar that is exquisite. Featuring over 190  of the world’s finest whiskies, you can try several with their whiskey flights (three samplings of whiskey, five different types of flights to choose from) No idea where to begin with whiskey? Don’t worry! The staff is more than happy to help you choose the perfect tipple.

Overnight: The Great Southern Hotel, Killarney with breakfast included.

There’s plenty to do in the Killarney area.  Perhaps you’ll start out with a jaunting cart ride.  You’ll have a hard time deciding on the beautiful Ring of Kerry or the gorgeous Dingle Peninsula.  Whichever you choose, your day will be full and you’ll have many pubs along the way.  If you choose the Dingle Peninsula you might want to check out Foxy John’s which comes highly recommended.  One side of the bar is a hardware store, the other is the pub!  Where else could you leave with a pound of nails after a drink!  It’s a must-see!

Today you’ll be traveling from Killarney to Dublin.  There’s plenty to see along the way, but if you’re interested in castles, tell your driver you’d like to see Rock of Cashel and Kilkenny Castle.  The views at the “Top of the Rock” are breathtaking.  In Kilkenny you have lots of options.  You could visit the Medieval 12th century Kilkenny Castle, tour the Smithwick’s Experience and have a pint of Smithwick’s beer, or take a walking tour and see the beautiful stained glass windows of the Black Abbey.   When you arrive in Dublin say Good-Bye to your Chauffeur driver.  You’ll now be on your own to check out the plethora of pubs in Dublin.  The lively Temple Bar area on Fleet Street is a great place to start your pub tour of Dublin.

Day 1: Dublin Tour & Guinness Storehouse Tour starts 2:00 PM at your Dublin hotel. Set out on an introductory tour of central Dublin. Cross the River Liffey to drive along the wide O’Connell Street and view the General Post Office where the 1916 Uprising started. Visit the Guinness Storehouse to learn about Ireland’s “black beer,” and after pulling your own pint enjoy views of Dublin from the rooftop bar. Back at the hotel, enjoy a welcome drink with your group and then dine on your own at one of Dublin’s many restaurants or pubs. Day 2: Glasnevin Cemetery Museum & Smithwick’s Experience Explore Glasnevin Cemetery Museum, Ireland’s national necropolis, which is a who’s who of modern Irish history. Head to Kilkenny for a walking tour through Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile to view merchants’ houses and historic pubs. Visit Smithwick’s Experience brewery for a tour and enjoy a sample. Spend some free time browsing the charming city before dinner. (B, D) Day 3: House of Waterford Crystal & Blarney Castle Head to the ancient port of Waterford to visit the House of Waterford Crystal. Witness the creation of crystal masterpieces during your visit. Visit Blarney Castle to kiss the famous “Stone of Eloquence” or explore the tranquil gardens. Treat yourself to quality Irish made goods at Blarney Woollen Mills. Pass through County Cork to Killarney where you’ll have free time to explore some of the lively musical pubs. (B, D) Day 4: Dingle Peninsula & Kate Kearney’s Cottage Dinner Head to the glorious Dingle Peninsula, made famous by two movies, “Ryan’s Daughter” and “Far & Away,” which showcased the wonderful scenery. Visit the South Pole Inn for an Irish coffee and learn about Tom Crean, an explorer who bravely journeyed to the South Pole. Immerse yourself in farm life and watch skilled dogs herd sheep. Enjoy some time and lunch on your own in the town of Dingle. In the evening head to Kate Kearney’s Cottage for dinner and traditional Irish entertainment with songs and step-dancing.  (B, D) Day 5: Cliffs of Moher & Aillwee Cave Embark on a ferry ride across the wide River Shannon Estuary. Take in the spectacular beauty of the Cliffs of Moher, soaring 700 feet above the Atlantic surf. Walk along the top of the cliffs for views across Galway Bay, of Connemara and the Aran Islands. A short drive will bring you into Doolin for lunch at McGann’s Pub. Next visit Aillwee Cave for a guided stroll through the underground caverns. Travel to Spanish Point, named after the ships of the 1588 Spanish Armada that were wrecked there. Enjoy a drink at Johnny Burke’s Pub at the Armada Hotel before dinner. (B, L, D) Day 6: Galway & Westport Walk Drive around the shores of Galway Bay and stop in Galway for some leisure time to explore independently. Continue through Connemara with its hills, lakes, and open country where mountain sheep roam freely. Stop in Leenane, where the movie “The Field” was made. Continue to Westport and enjoy a drink while taking a pub walking tour of this attractive estate town built in 1780, with buildings steeped in history and traditional pubs, many with live music. (B, D) Day 7: Teeling Distillery & 12th Century Brazen Head Pub Enjoy the scenery of central Ireland as you head to Dublin on the east coast. Visit Teeling Distillery, a distillery in the heart of the city, and sample the aged whiskey. Head to the Brazen Head Pub, Dublin’s oldest, dating back to 1198 for an evening of “Food, Folk and Fairies” where story-telling will reveal Ireland’s myths and beliefs in times past.  (B, D) Day 8: Independent Bus Tour in Dublin Enjoy an independent Dublin open-top bus tour and a visit to one of Dublin’s top attractions – Guinness Storehouse, Teeling Distillery, EPIC Ireland, or the General Post Office Museum. Day 1: Dublin & The Guinness Storehouse

Welcome! On arrival in Dublin you can check into  your hotel, then the adventuring starts at 2pm, when all participants meet in the hotel lobby for a guided tour of Dublin. Driving down the mains streets you can take in some of Dublin’s most famous sights like Trinity College, the Spire and the GPO. Next up you head to the Guinness Storehouse, home of Ireland’s famous "black beer". Try a cold pint of the stuff while overlooking Dublin from the rooftop bar. You have the rest of the afternoon to explore the city, until dinner!

Day 2: Glasnevin Museum and Medieval Kilkenny walk

Before leaving Dublin You’ll get to visit Glasnevin Museum, Irelands national Necropolis, where Michael Collins, Daniel O'Connell and Charles Stewart Parnell were laid to rest. Leaving the capital you head towards County Kilkenny, where you can check into your next hotel. Kilkenny has a rich medieval history, which you'll learn all about on your walking tour of the town. Visit Smithwick’s Brewery and enjoy some free time before Dinner.

Day 3: Waterford Crystal & Blarney Castle 

You start your day today by visiting the House of Waterford Crystal, where you can learn about how the beautiful glass masterpieces were created. Next you head to Cobh, via Dungarvan, Cobh was the last port of call of the Titanic, before it set off on its maiden and final voyage. Continuing south, you head to Blarney Castle where you can kiss the Blarney stone and visit the woollen mills. You'll be passing through Macroom next, a town built around a castle! Finally you arrive in County Kerry and shortly after that, the town of Killarney, a picturesque, lakeside town, jam-packed with culture and atmosphere. Once checked into your hotel, enjoy a relaxing meal and if in the mood, venture out to explore Killarney's nightlife.

Day 4: Dingle Peninsula & Kate Kearney's Cottage Dinner

Today you visit the epic Dingle Peninsula, driving to Slea Head, the westernmost part of the Peninsula you can see some incredible views of the Atlantic. Visit the Blasket Centre in Dunquin to learn about the history of Blasket Islands, which until 1953 were inhabited by farming and fishing families! Visit the South Pole Inn at the village of Annascaul, where local legend Tom Crean set up his themed Pub. Meet a farmer who has sheepdogs trained to herd flocks before heading back to Dingle to grab a bite to eat. In the evening you drive to Kate Kearney's Cottage, for traditional Irish food and entertainment!

Day 5: Cliffs of Moher and Aillwee Caves

Cross the Shannon estuary by ferry you reach County Clare, following the coast you'll eventually reach the coastal town of Doolin. From here you can take a boat trip to see the epic Cliffs of Moher from below. Next up you head to Aillwee Caves, where you can follow underground caverns, rivers and waterfalls! Travelling south you'll reach the village of Spanish Point, named such due to the many ships of the Spanish Armada that were wrecked there. Make sure to check out some of the villages lively traditional pubs before or after Dinner.

Day 6: Galway & Westport House

Driving along the Galway shore, you can take in the beautiful scenery of Galway Bay before heading in to explore the city!  Continuing on to Connemara, with its beautiful countryside, hills and lakes, you're guaranteed some incredible pictures! Next stop is the village of Leenane where the movie "The Field" was filmed. On to Westport next a pretty estate town dating to 1780 with lots of traditionally styled pubs and restaurants! Enjoy a tour of the stately Westport House, an 18th Century mansion, set in a picturesque estate that has overlooking views of the Atlantic Ocean and Clew Bay! Make sure to take in the history in some of the priceless painting s and artefacts the house contains.

Day 7: Teeling Distillery & 12th Century Brazen Head Pub

Leaving the West coast you head through the centre of Ireland back to the Capital. Here you'll visit Teeling Distillery, the newest distillery in Dublin and try its aged whiskey. Later that evening, it’s off to the Brazen Head Pub for a night of "food, folk and fairies" where you can listen to traditional Irish myths and legends over dinner!

Day 8: Independant Bus Tour in Dublin

For an extension of your tour you can spend an aditional day in Dublin and go on an Independant Bus Tour aswell as visit to the Book of Kells or the General Post office Museum.

Day 9: Departure from Dublin

After breakfast, its goodbye for now!

The Guinness Storehouse tour is a self-guided tour of Dublin’s most popular attraction. I must have gone on the tour 5 or more times during my few months of living in Dublin because I wanted to take every guest that visited me. I never got bored of going and learned something new each time!

The tour walks you through the brewing process and history of Guinness, which takes you through some important Irish history as well. The tour ends at the sky-high “Gravity Bar” where you can take in 360-degree views of Dublin. There’s really nothing else quite like this bar in the whole city! Plus, you get to enjoy a free pint of Guinness while you take in the incredible view.

The Jameson Irish Whiskey Distillery Tour is also one of Dublin’s popular tours. It varies enough from the Guinness tour for both to be incredibly interesting and unique tours, even if you don’t like the taste of either beer or whiskey! The Jameson tour gives you a comparative whiskey tasting as well as a complimentary Jameson whiskey drink.

These are hands down my favorite tours/museums as an alternative to a Dublin pub crawl tour, and I highly recommend securing your tickets in advance so you don’t miss these popular attractions. Howth is an adorable town just outside of Dublin that will give you a small taste of the Irish countryside and the slower outer city lifestyle. Howth sits on the Irish Sea and is lined with adorable shops and markets to walk through or cute Irish houses to view, it’s one of the best quick day trips from Dublin.

This tour takes you through some of the best, local Howth pubs and restaurants where you will sample at least 5 local craft beers as well as an abundance of locally caught seafood.

This tour is best if you want to hear the history of Howth and be a part of a guided tour to make the most of your time, otherwise, it is easy enough to wander around the town and nature trails yourself.

Howth is easily accessible from Dublin by a short ride on the DART (about €6 each way and 25-30 minutes) from the Dublin Connolly station or on Dublin Bus 31 (about €5-6 round trip and 35 minutes).

Favorite Pubs for the Best Self-Guided Dublin Pub Crawl

I found so many pubs in Dublin (it’s truly a city of pubs) that I can hardly remember them or keep them straight! There is a pub that matches the need of just about every type of person, including casual and non-drinkers too. You will find pubs in Dublin that have traditional Irish music and dance, pubs where you can play board games, dance pubs, gay-friendly pubs, the list goes on and on!

What Is the Most Famous Pub in Dublin?

The Temple Bar is the most famous pub in Dublin. If you have ever seen an image of a Dublin pub, you likely saw a photo like the one below of the Temple Bar.

1. The Temple Bar (Pub and Area) 

This is arguably the most popular, and most touristy pub in Dublin. The Temple Bar is both a stand-alone pub, and the surrounding area located near the city center that has a high concentration of pubs, shops, and restaurants (which confused me for a while when I first moved to Dublin). 

The Temple Bar is also popular because it offers Dublin’s largest collection of rare whiskeys– over 450 different varieties! Plus it’s always full of people having a good time on any day of the week. 

I do think you still have to hit this tourist spot just to experience it, and you likely will find yourself in the area anyway while you’re exploring the city center.

A few of my other favorite Dublin pubs in the area that I recommend hopping to are Bad Bob’s and Fitzsimons .

2. whelan’s pub.

This is a great dance pub with several stages throughout that play different music and often have dancing.

3. Doyle’s Pub

This pub is still in the city center but is lesser-known. It’s a nice place for food and a drink during the day and turns into more of a dance pub at night.

4. The Camden Pub

A sports pub, it has large screens and is a lot of fun for Irish game days. It is located on Camden Street which is another area of Dublin with a good amount of fun, unique bars. If you are looking to hop between pubs just keep walking down Camden Street.

5. O’Reillys Pub

Known for their unique, “candlelit gothic bar” this Dublin pub is great for the character– and their cheap beers.

6. Sheehan’s Pub 

Located on Grafton Street, it is surrounded by stores. Sheehan’s is perfect if you want to stop for a pint while getting some shopping done. It is also known for having great food.

7. Brazen Head  

This is another touristy place because it is the oldest pub in Ireland. It has a very traditional Irish feel to it and is good for food and beer. It has a nice outdoor area so this is a good one to visit on a sunny day. Plus it’s fun to say you’ve been to the oldest pub in Ireland!

8. Cassidy’s Pub

This pub has board games such as Jenga or Guess Who, to add an extra layer of entertainment for you and your friends beyond the pints!

Best Dublin Pub Crawl Routes

As far as choosing a Dublin pub crawl route goes, I recommend starting by picking a list of 3-5 pubs that are within a roughly 5-10 minute walk of each other. From there, you can map out where you want to start and end in relation to your accommodation or the next place you are trying to get to.

In most cases, I would say the best place to start is at the Temple Bar and work your way out of the city center from there. The easiest way is to walk along Camden Street, there are many great pubs along this route. Starting at the Temple Bar gives you a taste of the large and crowded touristy-type pubs, and then you can branch off into some of the smaller, more niche pubs.

Best Drinks to Try During Your Dublin Pub Crawl Tour

1. Guinness

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Dublin pub crawl if you didn’t try a pint of Guinness! This delicious stout is a staple of Irish drinking culture, and for good reason. Every Dubliner and tourist alike can confirm that Guinness tastes its best in Dublin. There is a freshness and quality of pour that just can’t be beaten in other countries.

2. Smithwick’s Beer

If you prefer a slightly lighter beer, Smithwick’s is a popular Irish red ale.

3. Bailey’s

Another popular Irish drink, Bailey’s Irish cream is a sweet and creamy liqueur that is perfect as a dessert.

4. Baby Guinness Shot

No, it is not a small Guinness – it just happens to look like one. A baby Guinness is typically a shot of Irish cream, coffee liqueur, and black Sambuca (licorice taste). It is sweet and way too easy to drink!

5. Irish Coffee

Coffee with whiskey in it, and maybe a dollop of whipped cream on top. You could also ask for it with some Bailey’s in it for a bit of extra creamy flavor! This is the perfect drink to warm you up on a rainy Irish afternoon.

6. Irish Whiskey

Another classic Irish drink to try during your Dublin pub crawl. Irish whiskeys worth trying include Jameson, Bushmills, Connemara, or Teelings.

7. Rock Shandy (Non-Alcoholic)

A refreshing Irish drink that is a mix of sparkling orange and lemon.

How Much is a Pint of Beer in Dublin, Ireland?

A pint of beer in Dublin averages about €5. In the more touristy areas (yes, like Temple Bar) a pint could even go up to €7 or €8 depending on what you order. Though typically a pint of Guinness hovers around €6 or below at most places you go across Ireland.

🍻 TIP: When you “cheers” in Ireland, you say “ sláinte “. Pronounced a bit like “slawn-cha” and means “health”.

Best Night/Dance Clubs in Dublin

Dublin has a good handful of nightclubs if you are looking to take your Dublin drinking experience to the next level and go beyond a typical Dublin pub crawl tour. Dublin’s dance clubs are always full of young Irish students and young adults looking to have a fun night! 

Most of Dublin’s popular nightclubs are found on Harcourt Street. So when in doubt, just walk down Harcourt and look for the best line to hop into. Plus, try looking out for Dublin club deals online for reduced entry fees and to learn about what events might be happening while you are in town.

A note: I do actually highly recommend sticking to mostly trying out different Dublin pubs. Especially if you are short on time in Dublin and only have a few nights. Nightclubs will be nightclubs pretty much anywhere in the world. While they’re still very fun in Dublin, each pub has a bit of its own character and will give you a much more fulfilling Irish cultural experience! 

1. Dicey’s Garden Club

This popular nightclub is always busy and draws a fun international crowd. The drinks are some of the cheapest in the city (€2 pints and wine some nights) and there’s a live DJ every night playing a mix of Latin and European hits. One of Dicey’s better-known features is the huge beer garden right outside of its 2 dance floors.

2. Copper Face Jacks (Coppers)

Coppers is another great, standard dance club to get a sense of Dublin’s nightlife. It has multiple dance floors, is open late, and draws young crowds. It is one of the most popular nightclubs in Dublin and always has some sort of deal or event happening.

3. The George

This club will certainly not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was one of my absolute favorites! It is an LGBTQ nightclub with fun, pop vibes and a friendly atmosphere. Beyond the great dancing that is always happening, The George will often have karaoke or drag nights that are hugely entertaining and draw some of Dublin’s most talented performers.

4. The Grand Social 

A unique circus-themed venue known for its friendly atmosphere and live music. It typically features more gigs and performers and is a bit smaller and more intimate of a crowd than some of the other Dublin nightclubs.

This is a unique venue with a little bit of something for everyone. You can hang out on the dance floor or outside under the heaters in the outdoor beer garden. It has a great atmosphere with occasional live music and multiple rooms to find your right vibe for the night.

A much-loved establishment with not a television in sight, conversation is key here at  The Gravediggers . Now run by the seventh generation of Kavanaghs, the pub is so called as it was built into the wall of Glasnevin Cemetery and gravediggers used to come in for a few drinks after a hard day’s labor.

Teach Hiúdaí Beag, County Donegal

O'Connell's, Skryne, County Meath 

Known for: Being the pub featured in Guinness's Christmas advertisement

O'Connell's pub is a familiar spot to many, as it has featured in the Guinness Christmas advertisement for 17 years. Situated in the stunningly beautiful Skryne, just across the valley from the Hill of Tara in the royal county of Meath.  The pub has been in the O’ Connell family for 170 years and very little has changed in the generations, it still boasts of having no TV and no internet.

Today it is run by Rachel O'Connell, who recalls her grandmother refusing customers' requests to put a TV in for the World Cup final in 1986. "I called into her that day and the bar was empty but her sitting room was packed, as she brought them all down from the bar to her sitting room to watch the match."

Known for: Transporting you back in time to the 1900s

Although the thatched roof may be gone, Morrissey's in Abbeyleix is still a major draw, and anyone passing through the town (on the Dublin - Cork route) should make a pit stop here, if only for the Instagram shot. Dating from 1775 (when it opened as a grocery store), this treasure of a pub has withstood the onslaught of modernization. A hotchpotch of oddities lines the shelves above the pew seats and pot-belly stove. It's a wonderful place to soak up the atmosphere with a pint or a coffee. Traditional music sessions take place on Saturday nights.

Thomas Connolly, Sligo town 

Known for: An extensive whiskey list 

Sligo is known as the resting place of poet WB Yeats, and many make the trip to pay their respects at the Nobel prize winner's grave in Drumcliff . A stop-off at  Thomas Connolly  is highly recommended; it’s best known for the warm welcome, famous pints of stout, regular live music and an ever-growing range of over 200 premium Irish whiskeys and scotch. You can raise a glass to the great writer.

Mickey Finns Pub, County Wicklow

Known for: Being in 'the heart of the garden of Ireland'

Just over the Dublin border, in the stunning vale of Avoca in Wicklow is Mickey Finn's, a cozy, low-ceilinged pub with a warren of rooms each with welcoming open fires and potbellied stoves. The bar incorporates beers brewed at the next door  Wicklow Brewery  and comes with pairing suggestions, such as Wicklow Black Stout beef pie paired with a Black 16, or the artisan 8oz burger with maple-smoked bacon and Helles Lager chutney accompanied by a Hopknut Pale Ale. Be sure to make time to take in some of the surroundings outside the pub, you are in one of the most beautiful spots in Ireland.

Tucked amongst thriving vines with a soothing dark interior, JJ Houghs in Banagher is a 250-year-old pub long celebrated for its charm and the warm welcome of its owner. Descriptions of the place range from 'quirky', 'idiosyncratic' to ' individualistic' so you know a unique experience is in store. It's a popular spot with boaters taking river cruises in the nearby majestic River Shannon . JJ's also serves pizza and cocktails, and by all accounts, the espresso martinis are a house special.

Known for: Serving fresh fish caught at night and delivered to their door every morning

With the backdrop of some of the country's best scenery and attractions , County Donegal is a must on any Irish bucket list. The renowned traditional Irish bar at the foot of Sliabh Liag serves up great drinks and mouth-watering seasonal food, if the spicy fillet of mackerel is on the menu, look no further.

If you fancy spending an all-nighter in the bar for the traditional live music session, make sure to book into one of The Rusty Mackerel's comfortable rooms and enjoy a hearty breakfast in the morning. Don't leave the area without stopping off at Glencolmcille Folk Village  and Silver Strand beach .

Known for: An atmospheric LGBTQ+ bar with great music

This LGBTQ+ bar is one of the few queer bars in the city. A safe space to have coffee, an invigorating drink or even a dance on Fridays and Saturdays to some banging tunes, the atmosphere is inviting and can be cozy too depending on the time of day. There’s a distinct influence of roots, reggae and soul music to be seen in the décor and art as well as in the music. Get ready to meet some new four-legged friends too, as it’s a dog-friendly bar.

Sunflower Public House, Belfast 

Known for: A cultural hub with plenty of history

Nestled on the corner of Kent and Union Street in Belfast is the Sunflower Public House . Owned by Argentina-born Pedro Donald, who has another beloved pub The American Bar. This simple pub is instantly recognizable from its relic of 1980s Belfast, a security cage and though no longer in use, it has persevered as part of its social history. This is a no-nonsense, no gimmick pub — it bills itself as a simple corner pub. Order a pint of Armagh’s McIvor’s cider, made with apples from the orchard country.

Tigh Neachtain, Galway city

Known for: Unforgettable music sessions

A favorite of local Galwegians for both food and drink, Tigh Neachtain on the corner of Cross Street has been serving up pints since 1894. Squeeze inside for their live music sessions or head there early to nab a place outside in their sunny drinks area. If you can get a seat inside, you might never leave. The pub is a big patron of the arts and music (it is Galway after all) so expect a lot of cultural activities around Galway Arts Festival in July.

O'Loclainn's Irish Whiskey Bar, Ballyvaughan, County Clare 

Known for: Margaret’s incredible whiskey knowledge

Wind your way to Ballyvaughan in County Clare and hop onto a bar stool for a magical tipple in quaint settings. Owner Margaret and her daughter are well versed in their whiskeys, with 70 Irish whiskeys and 20 Scotches available for sale. Not sure what your tipple is? Don't worry, they will advise you based on what you tell them you have tried and liked before. With more than 500 bottles on display (these are not on sale) visitors can look at labels and bottles and how they have changed through the decades.

Clarkes Bar, Drogheda, County Louth

Known for: Escaping to candlelit nooks and crannies

Clarke s  is small but so charming and not pretentious grabbing for the old vibes, according to one local. The Drogheda pub has long been linked with the arts in Ireland. Nano Reid, one of Ireland's foremost visual artist born in March 1900 lived on the premises with her family until 1926 when the pub was sold. It has a cozy interior of snugs and creaking floorboards. The atmosphere here is enhanced by the pub’s aged dark wood and patrons can lose themselves amidst the music and candlelight.

Blakes of the Hollow, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh

Known for: Game of Thrones carved door 

One of the best-known Victorian-style pubs in Ireland, Blakes of the Hollow is lovely for a quiet drink by yourself or with a few friends in one of their original snugs. Sit back with an expertly poured pint (or Irish coffee — the ones here are perfection) or tap your feet at one of their live music sessions. For fans of the epic high-fantasy show, a photo with the carved Game of Thrones door is a must.

The Cobblestone, Smithfield, Dublin

Known for: Calling itself a 'drinking pub with a music problem'

Largely regarded as one of Ireland’s most famous traditional music pubs, The Cobblestone is popular with tourists and locals. From organized sessions, to simply turning up with your instrument and hopping into the fray, a night out here is not to be missed. The Cobblestone is so well respected and loved that there was a massive campaign in 2021 in a bid to save it from developers.

Mother Macs, Limerick City

Known for: Its large range of refreshing craft beers

Mother Macs is located right in the heart of  Limerick City  in an iconic building dating from the 1700s. It doesn't serve food but you are not coming here to eat. They have 150 Irish whiskeys (you read that right) and whiskey tasting events that can be booked online with co-owner Mike. Craft beers are also a passion for the Mother Macs team, and the list is ever-changing. Check out their  podcast , too.

The Duke of York, Belfast 

Known for: A pint in the sun 

Tucked down a cobbled lane in Belfast city center is the Duke of York , known for its colorful flowers outside and original mirrors and memorabilia inside. You won't find as many visitors as you will in  Crown Liquor Saloon , this is a locals' haunt, so you need to step off the beaten track. The perfect spot for a cold beer when paying a trip to Belfast.

The Best Pubs In Ireland: 34 Mighty Irish Bars For 2024

I’d argue that no guide to the best pubs in Ireland is accurate (including this one).

Most are biased towards the writer’s own experiences or the various Irish pub awards.

What one person thinks is great, another might see as pure and utter shi… you get the picture.

So, a disclaimer: this guide is packed with what I  think are the best Irish pubs – these are places that I’ve loved suppin’ pints in and that I’m confident you’ll love too!

The vast majority of the places below are old-school, traditional Irish bars (most of which pour a decent pint of Guinness!).

1. Hopkins Bar (Sligo)

I fell in love with Hopkins Bar in Enniscrone last summer. This place is the blueprint for what every Irish pub should aspire to be:

• An old-school interior
• A very friendly buzz to it
• A great pint

When you walk through its doors you have a fairly snug little front bar where, if you manage to nab a seat, you’ll feel like you’re perched in someones living room.

As you make your way out back you’ll find what was once a kitchen with a few seats.

There’s also a spacious beer garden. This is one of the best pubs in Ireland, in my opinion, for good reason!

2. Moran’s Of Mornington (Meath)

Moran’s of Mornington hugs the River Boyne on the Meath side and has been quenching the thirst of locals and passing visitors since the 1800s.

Look out for the imposing oak tree soaring over the pub’s entrance and make your way through the swing doors into no-nonsense pub with a roaring fire during the colder months.

There’s a nice big beer garden out the back, the service is top-notch and it boasts an interior that feels like it hasn’t changed in 100 years!

3. McLynn’s Bar (Sligo)

Hidden away up Old Market St. in the heart of Sligo Town, McLynn’s Bar is one of the best Irish pubs I’ve encountered in recent years when it comes to live music.

A fourth-generation family business, the folks at McLynn’s have been serving up pints since 1889.

The mahogany interior is absolutely gorgeous and there’s a fire is roaring away during the chilly months.

I was here on a Saturday last summer and there was a trad session in full swing.

Glorious Guinness combined with great bar service and a fine wallop of trad made my last visit here a memorable one.

4. Toby’s (Mayo)

Westport is home to one of the most famous pubs in Ireland – Matt Molloy’s. But I’m taking a detour from busy Bridge St. to the Fairgreen to visit Toby’s, next.

I first visited Toby’s during a heatwave with my aul lad a few summers back. It was a Sunday and when we walked into the pokey front bar the place literally went silent.

We stopped, thinking ‘Sh*te, we’re about to be ran out of this place’ , but what followed was a fair bit of friendly abuse and then we were in and settled.

I’ve returned to Toby’s many time since. On each occasion I’ve felt welcome and my custom appreciated, which is rare these days.

The Guinness is great at Toby’s, as are the people. Another of the best pubs in Ireland, in my books!

5. The Gravediggers (Dublin)

Few pubs in Dublin have achieved fame like Glasnevin’s John Kavanagh’s , AKA ‘the Gravediggers’.

Reputed to pour the best pint of Guinness in Dublin , the nickname ‘the Gravediggers’ comes from its proximity to Glasnevin Cemetary.

Dating back to 1833, the old-world interior is beautiful and the atmosphere is enhanced further by the lack of music or TV.

A nice combo for an afternoon out is to head for a ramble in the Botanic Gardens, take a tour of Glasnevin and then nip into the Gravediggers, to top it off!

It’s also one of the only dog friendly bars in Ireland in this guide!

6. Tigh Neachtain (Galway)

There’s some brilliant pubs in Galway but the one that I find myself returning to over and over is Tigh Neachtain at the corner of Cross Street and Quay Street!

Run by the Neachtain family since 1894, it hosts some of Galway’s finest trad music and it was even attacked in the War of Independence by the Black and Tans who objected to the family displaying their name in Irish.

This is one of the best pubs in Ireland  if  you manage to grab a seat – the exterior seating provides some of Galway’s best people watching while the ones inside are generally like gold dust come the evening.

7. O’Connell’s (Meath)

Another of the more famous Irish pubs thanks to its appearance in the now-iconic Guinness Christmas ad is O’Connell’s of Skryne.

Pub interiors don’t get much more homely than O’Connell’s, with mahogany chairs, white panelled walls and a crackling fire come winter.

O’Connell’s has one of the most uniquely picturesque locations of any bars in Ireland in this guide. 

Finely plonked on top of Skyrne Hill, the pub (well, the outside anyway!) boasts sweeping views of the Boyne Valley to accompany your creamy pint!

8. Peadar O’Donnell’s (Derry)

Derry’s Peadar O’Donnell’s is one of many Irish pubs in this guide that I wish were about 4 hours closer to my home.

Standing proudly on Waterloo Street, Peadar’s has some lovely cosy nooks where you can plonk yourself for an hour or 5.

From the moment its vibrant exterior greets your eyes, you get the sense that something special lies just beyond its bright blue doors.

Inside is decked out in old Irish pub memorabilia and weathered mahogany. They also host regular trad sessions at the weekend.

9. Johnnie Fox’s (Dublin)

Nestled in the lofty heights of the Dublin Mountains, Johnnie Fox’s is another of the more famous pubs in Ireland, thanks to its Hooley Show.

For a long time, I thought of Fox’s as spot for tourists only, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We recently took the shuttle that leaves from Dublin City (a bargain at €10 return) and headed up into the mountains.

The experience here kicks-off with the gorgeous, olde world exterior. You then make your way through a bar that’s like something from a Lord of the Rings movie. 

As you nurse your drink, your eyes can’t help but wander around the different artefacts and bits-and-bobs that adorn the walls. Throw in great food and consistently friendly service and you’ve a recipe for a memorable night.

10. Bittles Bar (Antrim)

I’ve spent time in a lot of pubs in Belfast over the years, but none come close to Bittles .

Famous for its unique ‘flat-iron’ appearance (imagine a smaller version of New York’s Flatiron Building!), Bittles impresses from the word ‘go’.

As you wait for your drink, take a moment to gaze around the historic Victorian bar – there’s a combination of eclectic artwork and portraits of Irish literary and sporting heroes covering the walls.

If you’re fond of your Irish whiskey brands , you’ll find a generous collection on offer at Bittles. 

10. Tigh Ned (Inis Oirr)

One of the most memorable pints that I’ve had in recent years was nursed outside of Tigh Ned on Inis Oirr Island .

You’ll find Tigh Ned a stone’s throw from the pier and it’s the perfect place to nip into after an afternoon spent walking or cycling around the island.

This is one of the best bars in Ireland when it comes to beer gardens – on a fine day, you’ll have glorious sea views.

11. Thomas Connolly (Sligo)

Another of the more historic Irish pubs is Sligo Town’s Thomas Connolly – the county’s oldest pub. It was once visited by iconic Nationalist Charles Stewart Parnell during the inn’s early days.

The pub was first licensed in 1861 and was bought by Thomas Connolly in 1890 – the same year that he became the Mayor of Sligo.

Fast forward to 2023 and it’s a lively spot right by the river with a lovely spacious snug right inside the door!

12. Gartlan’s (Cavan)

You’ll find Gartlan’s in Kingscourt in Cavan, where it’s been present since the previous owner, George Gartlan, bought it in 1911.

The building itself dates back to 1780 and is a relic of what many Irish towns and villages once looked like.

Admire its thatch roof from the outside first. Innside the heritage continues and its rustic walls are full of old bric-a-brac and nooks and crannies.

This is one of many Irish pubs in this guide well known locally for its trad sessions!

13. Dick Mack’s (Kerry)

There’s many mighty pubs in Dingle but Dick Mack’s has been my firm favourite since I visited with the aul lad on a stormy winters evening a few years ago.

It was the off season, the place was quiet ish  and we managed to get a seat in the front bar – a great people watching spot.

Dick Mack’s has been on-the-go since 1899 and its in-house leather workshop only adds to its unique charm.

There’s also a brewhouse on-site and the action (and twice-daily guided tours) takes place in a building dating back to the 1850s.

14. De Barra’s Folk Club (Cork)

De Barra’s Folk Club in Clonakilty is one of the best pubs in Ireland when it comes to live music. De Barra’s is a small pub with a big reputation!

The quality of the live music on offer in quaint Cork town is second to none and long-standing associations with the likes of Christy Moore and Roy Harper have only added to this spot’s recognition.

Come for the nightly music and enjoy the beautiful decor, excellent beers and buzzy atmosphere.

15. Sean’s Bar (Westmeath)

You’ll see Sean’s Bar listed as the best pub in Ireland in many articles online. It’s the oldest, anyway, and it dates back to 900AD, a fact that was verified during an excavation in 1970.

It’s the oldest of the many bars in Ireland and it packs a punch. There’s a fine bit of space in Sean’s, with the seats on either side of the fireplace the most coveted.

One of the original walls that was discovered during the excavation remains on show in the pub, and the rest, along with coins that were also discovered, sit inside Dublin’s National History Museum.

16. The Crosskeys Inn (Antrim)

Another of the best bars in Ireland, in my opinion, is Antrim’s Crosskeys Inn , located off the main Randalstown to Portglenone road.

This gorgeous old Irish pub dates back to 1654. A stone-built cottage with whitewashed walls, it’s almost like stepping back in time when you enter and the Guinness is some of the finest in the land.

Look out for the live trad music every Saturday, alongside impromptu sessions on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings.

17. Mother Macs (Limerick)

Known locally as the Roundhouse due to its bright blue circular appearance, Mother Macs in Limerick is a pub worth seeking out if you’re exploring the city.

Although the building dates back to 1787, Mother Macs only opened in 2015, making it one of the younger Irish pubs in this guide.

However, despite its age, it has the feel of an old-school Irish pub – there’s no TV and, if you manage to get a seat, it’s one of the best pubs in the area for a yap with friends.

19. Blakes of the Hollow (Fermanagh)

Home to one of the best preserved Victorian bars in Ireland, Blakes of the Hollow in Fermanagh was established as a pub in 1887.

The name ‘Blake’ became associated with the pub when it was purchased by Catherine Blake in 1929.

When you walk inside, you’ll wonder if much has changed in the nearly 100 years since Catherine purchased it, and I mean that in the best sense possible.

Although you’ll have stiff competition, try and nab one of the snugs and tuck yourself away for an hour or three in one of the best traditional bars in Ireland.

20. Murphy’s Bar (Kerry)

One of the best pubs in Ireland when it comes to location can be found in the village of Brandon on the Dingle Peninsula .

Inside Murphy’s Bar you’ll find an open fire, maritime memorabilia on the walls, some great seafood and even better Guinness.

Those that visit can enjoy views out over Brandon Bay and the surrounding hills and mountains. In the summer, there’s few pubs like it on the Wild Atlantic Way.

21. McConville’s Bar (Armagh)

Standing proudly on the corner of West St. and Mandeville St. in the heart of Portadown, McConville’s Bar has been an institution for over 150 years.

Inside this ancient Irish pub, you’ll find the original wooden snugs, molded ceilings and etched windows.

There’s also an interesting link to the Titanic. The story goes that some of the Russian oak fixtures in the pub were replicated from a design on Titanic.

22. Smugglers Creek Inn (Donegal)

Boasting one of the more intriguing Irish pub names is the brilliant Smugglers Creek Inn in Donegal.

This is another of the best pubs in Ireland view wise can be found overlooking the long golden Rossnowlagh Beach and Donegal Bay.

With these majestic vistas looking out toward the Blue Stack Mountains, there are few bars in Ireland that can compete when it comes to pairing up views with pints!

23. Dan and Molly’s (Offaly)

The only straw-thatched pub in Offaly, Dan and Molly’s is a local institution with a welcome as charming as that famous old roof.

Located in Ballyboy outside Kilcormac, it’s a friendly spot that’s famous around the county for its impromptu music and dancing sessions in the front parlour.

But if all that excitement is a bit too much, then it’s also a perfect spot for a pint and a chat, especially in the winter when the pot-bellied stove and open turf fire keeps everything nice and toasty inside.

24. South Pole Inn (Kerry)

Plenty of bars in Ireland are crammed with memorabilia, but few have a collection quite like Kerry’s South Pole Inn !

The curious name comes from former owner Tom Crean, a legendary Antarctic explorer and local who was part of Ernest Shackleton’s doomed expedition vying to achieve the first land crossing of Antarctica.

This cosy spot in Annascaul now has walls adorned with photos covering Crean’s exploits in the harshest conditions known to man (which I imagine makes you appreciate these warm confines even more!).

25. An Uisce Beatha (Waterford)

There aren’t many ‘hidden gems’ when it comes to pubs in Ireland, but Waterford’s An Uisce Beatha is an exception.

It’s rare you’ll hear this place mentioned outside of Waterford, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you stumble upon it.

The interior of this place charms you upon first sight – the front bar looking like something more suited to a museum than a pub.

From my experience, the staff here are excellent. There’s also live music on the regular.

26. The Rusty Mackerel (Donegal)

Another of the more unique Irish pub names is the Rusty Mackerel which is situated in one of Donegal’s most spectacular locations at the foot of Sliabh Liag .

It’s easy to see why locals and tourists alike fall in love with this place – you won’t get much more rustic than the Rusty Mackerel.

During the winter months, you’ll find an open fire crackling away right next to the bar. During the summer months, there’s a seating area with glorious mountain views.

27. The Beach Bar (Sligo)

Sat serenely on the unspoiled Aughris Beach in Sligo Bay, the Beach Bar offers one of Ireland’s most spectacular settings for a pint in the sun!

If the thatch roof wasn’t charming enough, then the majestic sweeping views including the distant shapes of Knocknarea and Benbulben could persuade anyone to spend several hours here.

You can chill from the comfort of this old-school pub while lapping up the views or you can tip outside, perch yourself on the wall across from the pub and gulp down some fresh sea breeze while you nurse a pint.

28. Clarkes Bar (Louth)

Clarkes Bar was built in 1850 but didn’t become a pub until 1900, and it’s also long been linked with the arts.

In fact, in that same year, Ireland’s foremost visual artist Nano Reid was born and lived on these premises with her family until 1926 when the pub was sold.

Inside, the pub still has all of that turn-of-the-century charm and it’s one of several great  pubs in Drogheda .

Well known to be home to the area’s best drop of Guinness, this is a place worthy of your pub bucket list.

29. Mutton Lane Inn (Cork)

You’ll find the Mutton Lane Inn down a narrow, mural-splashed alleyway off Cork’s main drag and it’s unlikely you’ll want to leave once settled in!

The low-lit interior adds an aura of mystique to a pub that claims to be one of the oldest in the city and here they serve up some excellent Irish beers from Cork’s own Rising Sons Brewery.

This is a cosy pub that’s lit by candles and fairy lights and that has a warm homely buzz to it.

30. McDermott’s Pub (Clare)

Although many visit Doolin to refuel before heading to the Cliffs of Moher, there’s some great pubs in this County Clare village.

While I’m a big fan of one of the more famous bars in Ireland that calls Doolin home, Gus O’Connor’s,  McDermott’s Pub is where I find myself returning to.

Great food, plenty of corners to sit yourself in with a group and trad music regularly scheduled, McDermott’s is hard to bate.

31. The Sky and The Ground (Wexford)

Named after Wexford musician Pierce Turner’s song The Sky and the Ground , this Wexford pub is worth having on your radar.

I don’t generally partake in mid-week pints, but I ended up here on a sunny Tuesday evening last summer with the intention of leaving after one.

It was five slow pints later when I managed to tear myself away from it’s gorgeous old-world interior.

It pains me that this place is so far from where I live. It was quiet when I was there, but I’ve heard that there’s regular music sessions and a lively buzz on the weekends.

32. Cleere’s Bar & Theatre (Kilkenny)

Another of the top pubs in Ireland when it comes to music is Kilkenny’s Cleere’s Bar & Theatre !

Yes, you can expect plenty of fine beer here (especially with Smithwick’s being the local brewery), but evenings can serve up everything from comedy and poetry to music and visual arts.

The old wooden bar and tiled floor make this a lovely place to sit down and quietly sip your pint too, if all the excitement at the 100-seater venue at the rear is a little much.

33. JJ Houghs Singing Pub (Offaly)

Last but by no means least in our guide to the best pubs in Ireland can be found hidden behind a mass of creeping vines in Banagher in Offaly.

The exterior of JJ Houghs Singing Pub looks every inch its 250 years and it gives you a sense of what’s on offer inside – an Irish pub that’s traditional to its core.

There’s live music to be found here regularly, unsurprisingly enough, and there’s a decent sized beer garden for those often-rare sunny pints.

The most famous bars in Ireland are The Temple Bar, Johnnie Fox’s, The Brazen Head and Sean’s Bar (the oldest of the many Irish pubs).

What are the best bars in Ireland?

Again, highly debatable. In my opinion, the best bars in Ireland are McLynn’s Bar (Sligo), Moran’s Of Mornington (Meath) and Hopkins Bar (Sligo).

Love all of these pubs. Birminghams in Navan is another one that hasn't change since the 1800 hundreds and is one of the best music pubs on the east coast for music sessions. Tatch pubs you cant beat Harnans in Rathmoylion and Boggins Rathcore Dun na Sì both in Co Meath. Both have trad sessions.

The interior is simply sublime & magical Margaret has the greatest selection of whiskies you will find anywhere bar none in Ireland. Blarney Castle, which dates back to the 1400s, ranks as one of the most popular attractions in Ireland. The medieval stronghold, which stands approximately 5 miles west of Cork, houses the legendary Blarney Stone – purported to bestow the gift of eloquence on those who kiss it. In addition to visiting the famed castle, this tour stops at another highly popular destination, the Rock of Cashel and its cluster of medieval buildings, including Cormac's Chapel (which contains Romanesque frescoes) and the Hall of Vicars. New York pub The Dead Rabbit unveils luxurious Tours of Ireland experience

N ew York pub The Dead Rabbit unveiled its new Tours of Ireland experience , which will transport guests all around the southwest to sample the best produce the country has to offer.

The tour takes place from October 14 to 20, 2024, and will be hosted by The Dead Rabbit's d irector of Irish spirits Mark McLaughlin and the co-founders of Rêverie Tours, Lisa Donovan and Ulie Belcher.

The project was launched in partnership with culinary retreat experts Rêverie and seeks to showcase Ireland in a "contemporary, authentic, immersive, and unique" way.

The Dead Rabbit team, who run a collection of successful Irish pubs across the US , have worked with some of the best brewers, distillers, craftspeople, and chefs in Ireland to create the tour.

Guests will visit the the Cliffs of Moher , sip Irish coffees on the spot where they were invented, enjoy luxury spas, ride horses, try falconry, eat homemade ice cream and take part in workshops focused on everything from coffee roasting to farming.

There will also be trips to  Irish pubs and distilleries , such as JJ Corry Irish Whiskey and the Midleton Distillery, for tastings and Irish music sessions .

The trip starts with two nights in Co Clare, followed by two nights at the five-star Glenlo Abbey Hotel in Co Galway before finishing up with three nights in Co Cork .

One of the highlights will be an afternoon at the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School, where guests will tour the site's organic farm and gardens, butter-making room, and glasshouses. They'll then get to select their own produce and learn how to cook a three course Irish meal from some of the best in the business.

Another will be a Michelin-starred meal in the seaside town of Kinsale and a dinner in one of the original carriages from The Orient Express in Galway.

Tours of Ireland was inspired by The Dead Rabbit's recent trips to Ireland . The team said: "In 2022 and 2023 The Dead Rabbit’s entire leadership team came together to plan two captivating trips to Ireland with a number of very special guests.

"The goal was to immerse the attendees in ‘modern Ireland,’ capturing The Dead Rabbit’s vision through visits to the makers, the craftspeople, the brewers and distillers, the chefs and restauranteurs, the people who make Ireland one of the most vibrant, creative nations across the world.

"Tours of Ireland now brings all of these connections together inviting people from all corners of the globe to celebrate the Ireland we’re so passionate about, meet the people that form it, and experience the culture that we’re renowned for, all uniquely curated for your enjoyment, and ours."

Spaces cost $6,600 each and include all meals, beverages, accomodations, experiences and transportation within Ireland. Guests have to book their own flights to and from Shannon Airport.

Jon Rahm has yet to finish outside the top 10 during his debut LIV Golf season (seven starts), but when he’s joined the rest of the golf world he’s tied for 45th at the Masters and missed the cut at the PGA Championship.

This week, the Saudi-backed circuit is in Texas for LIV Golf Houston at the Golf Club of Houston where Rahm, the captain of Legion XIII, looks to be dealing with an injury.

During the first round Friday, Rahm hit his approach shot into the par-3 seventh — his fifth hole of the day — and immediately started to grimace and limp away after contact.

This is something to keep an eye on with the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina coming up next week. Rahm won the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and tied for 10th last season at Los Angeles Country Club. He’s currently one of the betting favorites at 14/1 .

Ever wanted to own your own Victorian island fort?

Well now you can - with two being listed with a guide price of £1m.

Spitbank Fort in Hampshire and No Man's Land Fort off the Isle of Wight have been listed for auction and can be bought separately - or as a pair if you can't pick between the two.  

During the Second World War, the forts were used to defend the Portsmouth dockyards. 

No Man's Fort is substantially bigger and probably presents itself more as a business opportunity, but Spitbank offers nine large bedroom suites across three floors and could potentially work as a private home to the right buyer. 

No Man's Fort has its own traditional English pub, a nightclub, and a helipad, while Spitbank Fort naturally boasts a wine cave plus a swimming pool and spa complex.

"Throughout my career as an auctioneer I've seen several sea forts hit the market that have achieved impressive prices as buyers have sought to pursue these trophy assets," said Robin Howeson, head of Savills Auctions.

"Having been carefully restored by the current owners, No Man's and Spitbank Fort represent exceptional market value, each guided at £1m. 

"Both offer an opportunity like no other; a waterfront location, up to 99,000sq ft of space and a chance to champion the heritage and legacy of these iconic maritime structures."

The auction takes place on 18 June. 

The BBC's content arm is among the suitors vying to buy the television production company which owns the rights to The Gruffalo.

Sky News has learnt that BBC Studios is participating in a sale process for Magic Light Pictures, which has won three BAFTAs and secured a quartet of Oscar nominations.

The auction is being run by Gotham Street, a specialist media deals boutique.

A number of other bidders are also said to be involved in the process given the quality of Magic Light's content library, which includes a number of works by The Gruffalo's creators, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The Gruffalo has become one of Britain's best-known children's characters, telling the story of an adventurous mouse that fends off a series of would-be predators by telling them about a supposedly imaginary creature called a gruffalo.

In the 2011 sequel, The Gruffalo's Child, the mouse then scares off a young gruffalo by using shadows to project a giant version of itself.

The two films have been distributed internationally by Magic Light, and along with the original Gruffalo books have sparked substantial merchandising revenues as well as a theme park attraction at Chessington World of Adventures.

The woman alleged to be the inspiration for the stalker in hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer is suing the streaming platform for $170m (£133m).

The show is said to be based on the real-life experiences of writer Richard Gadd, who plays himself as he copes with stalker Martha Scott.

Fiona Harvey, 58, claims she is the inspiration for Martha, who begins stalking Gadd after he serves her a free cup of tea in the pub where he works.

In the lawsuit, Ms Harvey has accused Netflix of spreading "brutal lies", including that she is a "twice convicted stalker who was sentenced to five years in prison".

"Defendants told these lies, and never stopped, because it was a better story than the truth, and better stories made money," it states.

"As a result of defendants' lies, malfeasance and utterly reckless misconduct, Harvey's life had been ruined."

Sky News's US partner network NBC News reports the lawsuit described the show's claim "this is a true story" as "the biggest lie in television history".

"Netflix destroyed a woman, claiming, among many allegations, that she was a convicted woman," Richard Roth, a lawyer for Ms Harvey, wrote in an email.

"It never contacted her. It never checked the facts. It never made any effort to understand the truth of its 'true story!'"

The lawsuit seeks actual damages and compensatory damages at $50m (£39m) each, punitive damages at $20m (£16m); as well as "all profits" from Baby Reindeer at $50m (£39m).

A Netflix spokesperson told Sky News: "We intend to defend this matter vigorously and to stand by Richard Gadd's right to tell his story."

Administrators to The Body Shop are aiming to clinch a sale of the stricken cosmetics retailer by the end of the month, even as its former owner veers away from making an offer for it.

Sky News' city editor Mark Kleinman has learnt that FRP Advisory, which was appointed to handle the chain's insolvency in January, has asked for indicative bids by next Tuesday.

British entrepreneur Mike Lynch has been cleared of all charges by a US jury in the high-profile fraud case related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011.

Dr Lynch, who was extradited to the US to face trial just over a year ago, was acquitted alongside a former finance executive Stephen Chamberlain who had faced the same charges.

They were accused of conspiracy and attempted fraud over the £8.3bn sale to HP - a deal that has been the subject of costly legal action since.

Labour is promising to get more young people on the housing ladder as it announces its "freedom to buy" scheme on Friday.

The party is pledging to make the existing mortgage guarantee scheme - which sees the government act as a guarantor for people unable to save big deposits - into a permanent fixture if it wins the election on 4 July.

Meanwhile, the Tories are promising a tax cut for parents by raising the threshold for when families have to pay a levy on their child benefit.

The current system means if either parents or a parent's partner earns more than £60,000, they begin paying the high income child benefit tax charge, and lose the benefit altogether when a salary hits £80,000.

But if the Tories win the election on 4 July, they have promised to increase the threshold to £120,000 before any tax is paid, and to £160,000 before the benefit is withdrawn, as well as base it on a household income, rather than an individual.

If you missed out on the general sales but want to bag yourself a last-minute ticket to Taylor Swift's show in Edinburgh tonight , it could set you back a whopping £4,000. 

Not to fear, however, as it is currently possible to land yourself a ticket for as little as £271 - if you settle for a somewhat restricted view. 

We've checked resale giant Viagogo for the latest prices, accurate as of 10.30am. 

As is often the case with popular tours listed on resale sites, many of the tickets are sold individually - so if you're happy to go alone tonight, you're more likely to get a ticket. 

For context, a ticket at general sale cost somewhere between £80-£160 depending on where you sit/stand. 

As it stands, the cheapest seat with an unrestricted view of the stage is currently up for sale at £323.

Just one ticket is up for £271, but has a "restricted view". 

Bringing a crowd

If you're looking to take someone with you, the cheapest pair of tickets without any restricted view will cost you a combined £1,706.

However, if you're happy with a restricted or limited view, you can pay the cheaper price of £538 for the pair (£269 each). 

You can buy up to four tickets in the same area for £303 each (£1,212 together) for a restricted view, or £555 each (£2,220 together) for an unobstructed view of the stage. 

Getting closer to the action 

Standing tickets are much sought after given their proximity to the stage. 

As alluded to at the top of this post, one frankly optimistic reseller has listed four general admission tickets for a staggering £4,256 each (in the "floor" section shown in the map below). 

However, you can get even closer - with one ticket remaining in the separate section to the left of the stage at £651 and another to the right at £559. 

A word of caution

Ticket resale sites, including Viagogo, have previously been accused of "ripping off" consumers amid concerns customers could be turned away at venues because of restrictions on some resold tickets.

The company was told in 2019 that it was required to make a number of changes to the way it collects and presents information about tickets on its site.

It has since pledged to be compliant with UK watchdogs and now offers a "100% order guarantee [which] covers both buyers and sellers".

If you're happy paying over the odds for last-minute tickets, make sure you're buying through a site with such a guarantee and always beware of scams!

House prices in the UK dropped by 0.1% between April and May, data from mortgage lender Halifax shows.

Analysts had expected a drop of around 0.2%, while last week, rival lender Nationwide said its measure of house prices rose in May after falling in the previous two months.

In the 12 months to May, prices rose by 1.5%, Halifax said - faster than the median forecast in a Reuters news agency poll for an annual increase of 1.2%.

"Market activity remained resilient throughout the spring months, supported by strong nominal wage growth and some evidence of an improvement in confidence about the economic outlook," Halifax's head of mortgages, Amanda Bryden, said.

The stable picture for property prices over the last three months was likely to give more confidence to buyers and sellers, she added. 

Sir Keir Starmer will shortly promise to get more young people on the housing ladder as Labour announces its "freedom to buy" policy. 

We've now got some reaction from business leaders, who've been speaking to Newspage.

Justin Moy, managing director at EHF Mortgages, was not impressed. 

"Freedom to buy looks great on the first read, but then you realise it’s actually been in place since 2021 and many lenders don't use it anyway," he said. 

"Labour are effectively promoting something that already exists and isn't used," he added. 

Andrew Montlake, managing director at Coreco, disagreed, saying it marked a "promising" first offering from Labour. 

"This can allow lenders to take a longer-term approach in their offerings and ensure that competitive products are continually available for those with lower deposits. 

"Whilst it doesn't solve the long-term housing issues overnight, Labour have at least shown they understand them and have already shown they are willing to speak and engage with those on the front lines, which is more promising for the housing market as a whole should the next government be a red one."

However, many more had a negative outlook. 

Lewis Shaw, owner of Shaw Financial Services, was scathing in his assessment, saying: "This policy is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. 

"Prior to the pandemic, 95% loan-to-value mortgage lending was the norm. 

"It happened without any political interference or putting the taxpayer on the hook - has everyone forgotten that? 

"If Labour really wants to help young people buy a home, then do the things that we all know are needed: Tax the super-rich, reduce wealth inequality and build more houses. It's not rocket science."

Katy Eatenton, mortgage and protection specialist at Lifetime Wealth Management, said it was "yet another scheme with no real substance", which was echoed by Stephen Perkins, managing director at Yellow Brick Mortgages.

"This policy will not hugely impact the property market," he said. 

Shortly, we're expecting Sir Keir Starmer to promise to get more young people on the housing ladder as Labour announces its "freedom to buy".

He's set to speak in the coming hours. 

The party will pledge to make the existing mortgage guarantee scheme - which sees the government act as a guarantor for people unable to save big deposits - into a permanent fixture if it wins the election on 4 July.

Sir Keir will also commit to an overhaul of the planning system, including reintroducing housing targets, claiming his measures will see 1.5 million more homes built over the next five years.

Among the planning changes, the party will promise to tax foreign buyers "pricing out young people" from the housing market in order to pay for new planning officers, which it claims will help increase projects being signed off.

It will bring back house-build targets - scrapped by the Tories in 2022 - as well as fast-track permissions to build on brownfield sites, and reform compulsory purchase orders to "stop speculators frustrating housebuilding".

They will also promise to offer "first dibs" on new developments to local people looking for a home and reiterate their pledge to create "the next generation" of new towns.

GAME are set to end their long-running rewards programme on 31 July and have urged customers to use their remaining credit whilst they still can.

Both the company's standard GAME Reward scheme and their Elite membership tier will cease to exist, while no further reward points will be earned from purchases made in store or online after July 15.

You can currently redeem 400 reward points for £1 off of a purchase. The end of GAME Elite will mean the end of its monthly offers and prize draws. Any outstanding paid Elite membership months will be eligible for a refund.

"We would strongly urge you to redeem your GAME reward points prior to the closure date on purchases in store or online to avoid disappointment," said GAME.

"After the closure date, GAME reward points will be reset to zero and the GAME reward account will be closed, you will no longer be able to access it and you will no longer be able to redeem your GAME reward points."

The end of GAME's reward programme is the latest move from the company to make changes to their business model.

The chain has already closed several of their own bespoke high street stores and instead taken up residence within Sports Direct and other Fraser Group outlets.

We've now had the first interest rate cut in the UK, US and EU for years. 

Yesterday the European Central Bank (ECB) brought down the cost of borrowing in the countries using the euro - the first reduction since 2019.

Sterling stayed roughly where it has been against the euro for the last two weeks - one pound buys more euro than it has done for most of the last year, €1.1740. 

Oil prices have ticked up through the week but are still just below $80 a barrel for Brent crude, the benchmark price. 

That's cheaper than the vast majority of this year and good news for motorists.  

Signs of stabilisation can be seen in the housing market with the news that house prices fell just 0.1% in May, equivalent to a £170 drop in the average house, according to mortgage lender Halifax. 

But renting is still becoming more expensive, just at a slightly slower rate than before, according to property portal Zoopla.

The average rent costs £80 more a month compared with a year earlier.

Higher housing costs have also shown through in a market update from British homebuilder Bellway, which said it expects to sell houses at a higher price point than it previously thought.

The company is a constituent of the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 250 index of 101st to 350th most valuable companies on the London Stock Exchange which is down 0.22% this morning.
