Check out two BMW Welt reviews we selected from Tripadvisor, which gives you an idea of what to expect at this attraction.
We were excited to go to BMW Welt to see their best cars and technology. It is free to visit, and seeing their showcase of cars is cool. I had lunch there as well, and it was nice. I wish we had done the factory tour, but it was sold out when we arrived, so booking in advance is probably best. Overall, great experience.

1. The complete BMW Welt experience
The BMW Welt “ensemble” – formed by the BMW Welt, Museum and Plant – has quickly become one of Bavaria’s top attractions. The success of all three realms of discovery lies in their diverse range of regularly changing exhibitions and focus topics, as well as their exciting programme of events. The BMW Welt combines technology, design and innovation with lifestyle, dynamism and culture to create a public space for meeting and discussion.
The BMW Welt. The heart of the brand – the beat of the city. Since it opened in 2007, the BMW Welt has provided its roughly two million visitors a year with a wide range of unforgettable experiences – and, today, is one of Bavaria’s most popular attractions. Visitors from all over the world come to admire the latest trends and exhibitions, technology and design, or even experience the excitement of collecting their new car at the BMW Welt. Both as a building and an institution, the BMW Welt serves as an important interface between the company, the brand, its products and the visitor. This is the only place where it is possible to experience the company’s past, present and future as a whole.
Besides personal delivery of up to 100 cars a day to their new owners from all over the world, exclusive presentations of the latest vehicle model series and motorcycles, combined with interactive exhibits, offer insights into BMW research, development, design and production – and allow the visitor to experience the BMW brand and the company from virtually every perspective. The BMW Welt’s Junior Campus for children and teenagers is a comprehensive and exciting programme designed especially for younger visitors. It allows them to explore the world of mobility in a highly creative way and implement it in many different scenarios. The BMW Welt also has its own Events Forum, equipped with state-of-the-art technology for all kinds of company and other events. This makes it an ideal venue for concerts, exhibitions, conferences, live broadcasts, receptions and seminars as well as for the sparkling array of events the BMW Welt hosts itself: From readings by best-selling authors to jazz contests, parties and improvisational theatre, through to New Year’s Eve parties – this is a place where guests can truly feel the beat of the city.
BMW Museum. History up close. The BMW Museum was built right next door to the BMW Group Headquarters – which Munich residents soon dubbed the “Four-Cylinder” – in 1973. The concept behind the BMW Museum, which reopened on 21 June 2008 following an extensive expansion, focuses on the fascination of the BMW brand. Around 120 original exhibits showcase more than 90 years of BMW brand history along a central route, or “road” that guides 400,000 visitors a year through 25 separate exhibition areas. Special junior programmes for children and teenagers round off the Museum’s offering.
BMW Plant. A passion for technology. The BMW Plant Munich is the original BMW Group Plant. As part of the BMW Group’s global production network, the plant builds up to 1,000 BMW 3 Series (Touring and Sedan models) and more than 1,000 power units a day, including four, eight and twelve-cylinder petrol engines and high-performance engines for the M3, M5 and M6. The Munich plant employs a workforce of around 9,000 people from more than 50 countries and accommodates all automobile production technologies. It belongs to the Group’s global production network of 24 plants in 13 countries and, as part of the BMW Welt, also serves as a “window on the world of BMW production”. Individual tours provide a unique and authentic insight into automobile production.
2. The BMW Welt. The heart of the brand – the beat of the city.
The BMW Welt hosts more than 50 different events a year, from Brazilian carnival, to improvisational theatre and poetry slams, through to Sunday matinees and the finale of the renowned BMW Welt Jazz Awards. Since the vehicle collection process is such an integral part of the BMW Welt, visitors who are taking one of the fascinating tours or viewing the changing vehicle exhibitions, can also share in the new car-owners’ joy as they receive their BMW fresh off the production line.
The BMW Welt’s Junior Campus Portal invites younger visitors to enter a fascinating universe for them to discover. The BMW Welt’s wide range of educational programmes allows young guests to try their hand at being an engineer or a car designer, for example. All of the content is closely tied in with the Bavarian school curriculum and designed to appeal to youngsters’ curiosity. Specially trained staff assist with the individual programmes.
Besides the diverse programme of events and regularly changing exhibitions on BMW technology, design and innovation, visitors are also fascinated by the building’s extraordinary architecture. Professor Wolf D. Prix’s award-winning design makes the BMW Welt one of Munich’s most exciting locations – both inside and out. The Viennese architect and his team, COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, consider themselves part of the deconstructivist tradition – together with famous international figures, such as Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind and Rem Kohlhaas. The roof of the BMW Welt could easily fit over Saint Mark’s Square in Venice. But the entire roof construction is supported by just eleven pillars, so that it almost appears to be floating. Some 3,600 solar cells were installed on this same roof, over a total area of 6,300 square metres, creating the impression of a single entity. Photographers and camera teams have also discovered its exciting architecture for themselves: The BMW Welt is regularly used as a location for TV productions and photo shoots.
The BMW Welt also offers an exceptional fine-dining experience. A large team of expert staff takes care of visitors’ well-being, serving everything from light meals to three-course dinners, and making a visit to the BMW Welt a real culinary highlight.
At its opening in 2007, Christian Ude, Lord Mayor of Munich, the Bavarian state capital, commented that: “In this day and age of growing competition among industrial locations, it is by no means a given for such a large, dynamic and, in particular, global company to put down deeper roots in the city. The BMW Welt not only benefits Munich in visual and architectural terms – it is also a highly significant project through which BMW is once again pledging its commitment to its home city.”
The latest information on opening hours, events and guided tours can be found in the internet at www.bmw-welt.com/en .
3. The BMW Museum. History up close
Munich is where BMW’s history all began. The Museum also reflects the ongoing history of the company in the city. Visitors are able to experience and learn about the brand’s technological horizons and design history: from the very beginnings early last century all the way into the new millennium. The Museum’s collection of historical cars, motorcycles, racing and aircraft engines, combined with a glimpse of the technology and designs of the future, have been the foundation of its success since 1973. With its unique range of original exhibits, the BMW Museum appeals to visitors from all over the world and has established itself as one of Munich’s most popular attractions.
Since it reopened in 2008, the BMW Museum has continued not only its own success story, but also that of the company – in a new space, with new content: With its new approach, and five times the exhibition space, the BMW Museum highlights BMW’s competence and innovative strength.
Over an area of 5,000 square metres, vehicles, themes, architecture, design and media concepts combine to provide an unmistakable brand experience and form a unique composition of exhibits from past, present and future. The range of topics comprises the history of the BMW Company, its brand and products, and combines all of these with a broad range of developments in design, technology and motor sports. Strolling through 25 focus topics, visitors from all over the world walk along “Museum roads” and submit to an intense brand experience. The concept of the museum of the future.
The museum concept focuses on the fascination of the BMW brand. Special emphasis has been placed on using the latest presentation techniques to showcase the more than 120 original exhibits and present information on BMW vehicles, their sporting successes and the design development process in an interesting way. A central “road” leading through the Museum creates an urban setting and guides the visitor through space and time. The “Bowl” is an ideal new venue for any kind of temporary exhibition as well as a wide range of cultural events.
The latest information on opening hours and admission prices can be found in the internet at www.bmw-museum.com .
4. The BMW Plant. A passion for technology
The same high standards of quality, safety and careful use of resources apply at all plants within BMW’s international production network. Innovative production technologies and highly skilled employees at all locations assure the production of premium cars “Made by BMW” comprising more than 10,000 individual parts and components.
The BMW Plant Munich is the BMW Group’s original plant. It is located in the north of the city, directly next to the BMW Group Headquarters, the BMW Museum and the BMW Welt. The Plant employs a workforce of around 9,000 people from more than 50 countries around the world, including around 700 apprentices. As a part of the BMW Group’s global production network, the BMW Munich Plant builds more than 1,000 engines and up to 1,000 cars a day. Representing all of the BMW Group’s international production facilities, the BMW Munich Plant, next to the BMW Welt, offers visitors a direct insight into state-of-the-art automobile manufacture. The BMW Plant Munich. Authenticity and technology.
The origins of BMW production go all the way back to the year 1917. Since 1922, the plant has stood in Munich’s Milbertshofen district in the north of the city. Originally, the Munich Plant built only aircraft engines and motorcycles: In fact, BMW’s 100,000th motorcycle rolled off the production line here in 1938. Automobile production in Munich did not begin until 1951, with the launch of the BMW 501. The first BMW Isetta was built just four years later, securing additional jobs. The BMW 1500, the brand’s first sporty four-door midrange sedan, entered production in 1962, laying the foundation for BMW’s success in the market. The company transferred some stages of production from Milbertshofen to the town of Dingolfing some 110 kilometres north-east of Munich in the late ’60s, with motorcycle production moving to Berlin in 1969 to relieve the BMW Plant Munich.
The BMW 3 Series, to this day the BMW brand’s most successful model series, entered production at the Munich Plant in 1975. Numerous innovations in control and production technology were introduced at the Milbertshofen Plant for the first time – such as the world’s first fully-automated production of the under-body assembly in the body shop. The 1980s were characterised by ongoing expansion of BMW’s production network, with new plants in Steyr, Regensburg and Wackersdorf all going on stream. After the foundry was moved to Landshut and the BMW’s Research and Innovation Centre completed in the north of Munich, the Munich Plant concentrated on the production of automobiles and engines from the mid-80s on. One of the key decisions taken in the ’90s was to build all of the BMW Group’s large, high-performance M engines at the Munich Plant.
BMW attaches great importance to the environmental-friendliness of its production in the heart of the city. It established a neighbourhood forum in 1994 and won the City of Munich’s Environmental Award in 2003.
The Munich location. Innovative, creative, flexible.
All automobile production technologies are accommodated at the Munich Plant over an area of 500,000 square metres: the Press Shop, Body Shop, Paint Shop and Assembly, as well as Engine Production and the Production of Interior Fittings. The modifications necessary for production of current and future models of the BMW 3 Series, as well as future engine generations, required almost the same investment as a brand-new production plant. All five generations of the BMW 3 Series were built at this BMW Plant rich in tradition.
Quality assurance worldwide The BMW Group’s production network includes seven vehicle production plants for BMW automobiles and motorcycles and encompasses a total of 24 production facilities on four continents. Engine plants supply various engines to the vehicle production plants, with the production network being supplemented by component plants. To avoid high customs barriers in certain markets with significant growth potential, BMW also operates Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Assembly Plants building cars in local markets. These plants assemble imported parts kits together with components supplied by local industry.
BMW Plant tours.
Since the BMW Welt opened, visitors – including many customers collecting their cars – have taken a tour along the Plant’s “Production Mile”, which leads through various production halls and production stages, ranging from Press Shop to Assembly. The BMW Plant Munich is open to all visitors over the age of seven. Maximum group size is 30 visitors; guests can opt to take a private tour or join a group tour. 10 Things to Know Before Visiting BMW Welt, Munich
There’s no question that Germany is paradise for car lovers. All the major manufacturers – VW, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes and Audi have museums and other exhibitions for car nerds to enjoy. BMW Welt is part of the massive BMW complex in the northern part of Munich . There’s the production plant, the museum, BMW Welt and BMW Classic. Here’s what you need to know about BMW Welt before you visit.
Bmw welt and the bmw museum are not the same thing.
As you can see from this aerial photo of the BMW campus, BMW Welt in the bottom left corner and the BMW Museum in the middle right side are separated by a large road. Admission to BMW Welt is free. Tickets to the Museum cost €10 per person or €24 per family.
It’s handy for the old Olympic village in Munich
It’s basically a giant car show room.
BMW does nothing to hide the fact that the entire point of their lavish building is to show off cars. Customers can choose to collect their new BMW fresh off the line at BMW Welt if they wish. The rest of us can take a look at, touch and sit in all BMW’s production models.
Cooler than you think. Or is it?
The name BMW has a different cachet in North America – it’s foreign, it’s luxurious – if you can afford one, you have arrived. In Germany , things work a bit differently. BMWs, along with Audi and Mercedes are very common company cars intended for salesmen and middle managers. The higher the workers rank, the bigger their car.
The Double Cone is an architectural wonder
Actually, the whole building is. Designed by the Austrian firm Coop Himmelb(l)au , the building manages to support a 16,000 square meters roof with only 11 columns. Inside, corridors are hung from the ceiling to keep the space open. The front corner of the BMW Welt building is supported by a stunning glass and steel double cone.
You can hire part of BMW Welt for a private function
Having a family celebration, a big meeting or even a new product launch? The Auditorium and Foyer, Double Cone, Business Centre and Business Club are all available for hire with full catering, a rotating stage and insane provision for all your audio-visual needs.
You can see the past. And the future.
Inside BMW Welt you can see models of all current BMW production models, including Rolls Royce and Mini as well as some older models. While the inventory isn’t as comprehensive as you would find in the BMW Museum, there’s still plenty for a car nerd to get excited about. Also on display are BMW’s concept cars. Gull wing doors are so 1987.
There’s an app
It’s 2018, of course there is. Guided tours are available for BMW Welt, the Museum and Production Plant, but if they are all booked up, or you prefer to go it alone, the app will give you supplemental information on your phone or tablet based on where you are in the building.
You can rent any car by the hour
If you’ve always wanted to drive a BMW, but don’t quite have the cash required, you can rent any BMW production model for an hour, an afternoon or a day and take it for a spin. An M6 or an i8 can be yours for as little as 75€ per hour. Even better, choose a lesson and learn straight from a driving professional how to fly out of those corners.
There are snacks. And two full restaurants
Good to know if you’re doing the aquarium or Olympic park at the same time – there are plenty of places to eat at BMW Welt. There are small, casual restaurants serving snacks perfect for children and also two full-service restaurants more suitable for adults or business meetings.

New opening: The BMW Motorrad Welt
With bmw motorrad welt, bmw motorrad is creating its own world of experience around everything to do with the brand and its motorcycles for the first time in its 100-year history. the location was not chosen at random, but is set right in the heart of bmw motorrad production..
BMW Motorrad Welt: Home of the brand. “With BMW Motorrad Welt, we are giving our brand a home directly where our motorcycles are manufactured in Berlin. BMW Motorrad Welt will be our new “Home of the Brand”. On an area covering around 1,000 square metres, we are creating a full-scale brand experience that connects BMW Motorrad with its community, the public and employees in a highly emotional, authentic and lively way. Experiences range from the interactive presentation of current BMW Motorrad products, exciting plant tours and unique gastronomy to events as well as external and internal booking options. BMW Motorrad Welt offers a unique and fascinating platform for an emotional get-together on everything BMW Motorrad,” says Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad, summarising the cornerstones of BMW Motorrad Welt.
Interactive exhibitions and exciting plant tours. The heart of BMW Motorrad Welt are the interactively presented current BMW Motorrad vehicles, complemented by special exhibitions – on the subject of customizing, for example – as well as selected highlights from the BMW Motorrad Gear & Garment Collection and Original BMW Motorrad Accessories.
From Monday to Friday, the plant gates also open up for visitors who want to immerse themselves in the fascinating way BMW motorcycles are manufactured. More than 2,200 employees produce about 900 vehicles of the Sport, Tour, Roadster, Heritage, Adventure and Urban Mobility segments every day on an area of nearly 220,000 square metres. A finished vehicle comes off the assembly line about every 60 seconds.
The BMW Group plant in Berlin is one of the most steeped-in-tradition and at the same time most innovative industrial locations in Berlin and the region.
A guided tour of the plant grounds and through the production halls is the perfect opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of BMW Motorrad manufacturing. And that’s not only just for enthusiastic motorbike fans.
From October, the BMW Motorrad Welt will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on public holidays. Combine your visit to the new BMW Motorrad Welt with a guided tour of the factory – you can book this with us in the online shop.

Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.
What is the kremlin in russia?
The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

Tour Sweden's World of Volvo before It Opens
The old Volvo museum closed its doors in December 2023, but the new World of Volvo location is a Swedish experience like never before.
- The World of Volvo is situated near Volvo Group headquarters and only 14 miles from the Gothenburg airport.
- We got a behind-the-scenes look ahead of its grand opening on April 14.
BMW Welt, a stone toss away from the company's HQ in Munich Germany, has Double Cones. The Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen has a 911 kebab—or, as they call it, "Porscheplatz"—out front. And now, in the heart of downtown Gothenburg, Sweden, there are three giant tree trunks—the arms and legs of Volvo's new museum, exhibit, delivery program, meeting place, and eatery—World of Volvo.
Volvo invited us to explore the new facility ahead of its grand opening on April 14, which by no accident is the very day 97 years ago that the Swedish automaker's first vehicle, the four-door ÖV4, left its assembly line. The nearly 240,000-square-foot chunk of Gothenburg was designed by the Danish architecture group Henning Larson . It stands 14 miles from the Gothenburg-Landvetter airport and just 11 miles east of Torslanda, the home of Volvo Group headquarters and its oldest plant.
The space is Swedish beautiful. Its lack of extravagant shiny metals or spaceship style makes it feel real, welcoming, and warm. We overheard more than just a few fellow media guests compliment the spruce and pine fragrance that acts as a natural canopy over the structure's smooth concrete floors. The top floor, home to several rentable conference halls and classrooms, conceals the nearby highway thanks to the tilted roof below it. It took four years to design and construct, using some 2800 tons of lumber, and a few leftover lamp bulbs from the SAAB gearbox building that once occupied a portion of its space.
World of Volvo is five stories tall, and while its entrance honors Sweden's " Allemansrätten ," or "everyman's right to roam," with free admission, its grandiose event space, colorful and interactive exhibits, and restaurant run by Michelin-star chef Stefan Karlsson each require a handful of Swedish krona.
Its debut exhibit is a balance of Volvo's history, its pledge to safety, and future products. There are distracted-driving simulations, VR goggles, and an area that lets you scoop rubber balls out of a pit with a mini Volvo excavator. One clever installation shows the role speed plays in a car accident, using a stack of wooden chairs. It's an interesting way to see crashing without a seatbelt at 15 km/h (9 mph) versus crashing at 30 km/h (19 mph). The lesson? Not wearing a seatbelt is about as smart as falling headfirst from a stack of eight chairs.
Of course, there is no shortage of Volvo cars, concepts, trucks, and technology featured here. The Volvo Experimental Safety Car (VESC) is impossible to overlook. This concept, which originally debuted at the Geneva auto show in 1972, was a test bed for all types of innovative safety equipment: front and rear airbags, concealed headrests that would deploy during a crash, a steering wheel that would pull away from the driver during a collision, and a 6.5-mm F/1.8 rear-facing camera that would feed video to a CRT screen in the dash.
In another room, one of the White Buses sat parked. Painted white, with red crosses on the roof to avoid being bombed by allies during their attempt to ferry more than 15,000 prisoners to Sweden, these buses served a heroic purpose toward the end of World War II. The display is surrounded by literature about the nurses, drivers, and soldiers who carried such a dangerous undertaking.
The Volvo YCC was on display. We asked if we could take it home, but were told no. The YCC (Your Concept Car) originally debuted at the 2004 Geneva auto show and was created by an all-female crew for women. It had a special compartment to store a purse, a headrest designed to comfortably accommodate a ponytail, and washable seats. The team also gave the YCC gullwing doors and the special project would go on to win many awards for its design and effort.
There are other vehicles on display, such as tractors, boats, logging trucks, and semi-trucks. The white F88 from the 1970s wears its significance across the top of its cab. Globetrotter was the top trim level of Volvo trucks, and the moniker is still used today on its trucks specifically designed for long travel. That takes you back to a time when refrigerators, kitchens, and spacious cabs were inspired by companies building trucks in America.
The FH, Volvo's biggest-selling truck ever, is on display behind the F88. It was the first to be built, in 1993. This FH12 was just the start to the Volvo trucks sold today, which are now offered with a range of electric, gasoline, and diesel powertrains. Exhibits big and small enter the space via a massive freight elevator just outside the building that can carry up to 48,500 pounds of Volvo history. Which is more ice wine than we're able to drink in a single visit.
The World of Volvo building will become home to its Overseas Delivery service, making its location relative to the airport and assembly plant so crucial. The site, which is the result of a collaborative effort between Volvo Cars and Volvo Group, is intended to be the home of future product reveals, TED talks, and—we hope— Car and Driver editors, because we so desperately want to play with those excavators again.
Tickets are available at the World of Volvo website or can be purchased at check-in. Choose an annual pass to get a small discount for future events while enjoying unlimited visits throughout the year.
Yes, he's still working on the 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo project car he started in high school, and no, it’s not for sale yet. Austin Irwin was born and raised in Michigan, and, despite getting shelled by hockey pucks during a not-so-successful goaltending career through high school and college, still has all of his teeth. He loves cars from the 1980s and Bleu, his Great Pyrenees, and is an active member of the Buffalo Wild Wings community. When Austin isn’t working on his own cars, he’s likely on the side of the highway helping someone else fix theirs.
