The Best Breweries in Eugene, OR

A picturesque college town two hours from Portland, Eugene offers visitors and locals the best of both worlds. Home to the University of Oregon, surrounded by green hills and the majestic Willamette River running right through it, the city provides the best combination of outdoor recreational activities and a bustling cultural scene.

Eugene has a fantastic up-and-coming craft beer scene that is now grabbing attention from beer enthusiasts all over the US. Many of its breweries include sustainable practices in their brewing process, such as sourcing local ingredients, recycling, using renewable energy, etc. A mixture of traditional and innovative brewing techniques has led to a wide range of eclectic and delectable beer all over Eugene. Give your taste buds a treat and hit any of the seven breweries we have mentioned in our list.

With the city’s stunning views and the breweries’ sustainable practices, Eugene’s breweries are a must-visit to broaden your craft beer horizons. These are the spots to hit when in Eugene.

Alesong Blending and Brewing

Hop valley brewing co., coldfire brewing company, claim 52 kitchen, the wheel apizza pub, elk horn brewery.

brewery tour eugene

Alesong is a true experience as a beer aficionado and a nature lover. The brewery has two locations, and, for the whole experience, it is best to visit both.

The location in the fifth market is a neighborhood brewery ideal for fun times with friends and family. Enjoying a selection of artisan ales on the rooftop patio looking out to the city, this will be one of your more memorable outings.

Alesong’s other location, a tasting room in the countryside, is a grand experience focusing on the main star, the beer. Located in picturesque hills surrounded by lush green pine trees, you can learn about the brewing and barrel-aging process on tour. With a selection of seasonal releases and vintage pours from the tasting room enjoyed by the panoramic views, Alesong delivers a beer experience like no other.

Try their Belgian Golden Ale called Plum in Love for a slightly tart taste and a crisp bright, finish. Made with local Santa Rosa plums, this beer is an ode to the founders’ marriage and good enough to make you fall in love with yourself. Also highly recommended is their award-winning Hoppy Saison called Touch of Brett’21. Aged in French oak barrels with an undertone of tropical fruits, it is a genuinely complex yet approachable beer.

Hop Valley has a laid-back and casual approach to brewing, making its products seem fun and inviting. The tasting room has twenty beers on tap, featuring a mix of seasonal favorites and limited edition releases.

The casual vibe of the brewery is further shown in the fact that they have flagship beers, they have a rotating menu of whatever beer is inspiring the founders at the time. In the founders’ own words, the idea was to have no flagship beers just beer that tastes good. Hop Valley is indeed formed out of a love of beer and experimentation. A portion of the sales is also donated to causes near the founders’ hearts, so you know this is one business you would want to support.

Hop Valley has 20 beers available on tap at all times. Try their Blonde Ale or the Citrus Mistress IPA for a beer that packs a bit of a kick.

Coldfire is a small craft brewery that focuses on small-batch brewing. They are motivated by European brewing traditions and add a North-western aesthetic to it by using locally sourced ingredients. Coldfire is a taste of Oregon inspired and informed by European traditions, making it a must-visit for any beer lover.

Try the Chinook IPA named after the hops taken from Crosby Hop Farms. The beer showcases the complete flavor profile of the hop taken straight from an Oregon farm. This is a must-drink for an authentic taste of Oregon.

Ninkasi Brewing Co.

brewery tour eugene

Named after the Mesopotamian goddess of beer and brewing, Ninkasi Brewing takes both Beer and Oregon very seriously. The company calls beer a civilization staple and uses locally sourced ingredients to brew the highest quality beverages. A fully independent brewing company focusing on community, Ninkasi is the labor of love of two friends who want people to connect over their pints.

Try their Megalodon IPA Legendary IPA, a mixture of seven different hops. The different flavors merge into a fantastic heavy hitter of a drink you will savor for a while.

Best Breweries in Eugene with Food

Many varieties of craft beer reach another level when paired with the right kind of food. These are the best breweries in Eugene, which provide a hearty menu along with their brewed masterpieces.

Claim 52 is a restaurant and brewery that stands apart due to its focus on tropical-themed beers. Though located near the hills, Claim 52 delivers a taste of the ocean, and its ever-evolving selection provides a surprise every time you visit. Sample flights of its drink menu to get the full taste of the experimental beers that Claim 52 specializes in. Their Thicc series, a range of Puree Goses based on tropical fruits, is a delight for the senses.

Try their Rainbow Sherbet Puree Gose with Raspberry, Lime, and Vanilla flavor profiles. Pair it with their Smokehouse BBQ burger to complete the heartiest meal you will have in a while.

brewery tour eugene

The Wheel is, in its own words, Oregon’s premium artisan pizza brewery. The Apizza is a reference to Connecticut-style pizza which the locals call “apizza.” The brewery uses locally sourced ingredients in all their pizzas. They offer a wide range of in-house brewed beer to accompany the pizzas. The brewery takes the much-loved pizza and beer combination to the next level.

Try the Margherita Pizza combined with their Dire Wolf Strong Ale. A classic light pizza with a strong beer is a combination for the ages.

brewery tour eugene

Located in the heart of Eugene’s campus culture, Elk Horn is a family-owned gastropub known for its extensive Southern food menu. The pub delivers hearty Southern food and its in-house brewed masterpieces, making it a popular destination for students and visitors. Elk Horn is an experience just for its eclectic Southern meet North-western aesthetic.

Try their Chicken and Waffles for a classic Southern meal. Pair it with their Morning Dew Hoppy Lager to take it up a notch.

Eugene is Oregon’s other craft capitol. In this post I’ll introduce you to the best Eugene Oregon breweries, and what to expect when you visit.

A Blonde Ale sits on a bar at Steelhead Brewery. Steelhead is one of several Eugene Oregon breweries.

Alcohol should be used responsibly. Not all craft breweries are appropriate for families. Exercise discernment when deciding when and how to consume alcohol.

Elk Horn Brewery

My wife enjoys a cup of Elkhorn Brewery's Blood Orange Cider. Elkhorn Brewery is one of several great Eugene Oregon breweries.

We came across Elk Horn Brewery at Detering Orchards , one of the best farm stores in the Willamette Valley . The fun-filled farm features Elk Horn cider taps, so we decided to give their cider a try over lunch.

Jennifer is the cider lover so she tried Cupid’s Crush Blood Orange Cider (6% ABV). She was struck by the drink’s surprising flavor. The cider had a slight hint of orange, almost no sweetness, and was refreshingly crisp.

@dinkumtribe Loved trying this cider! @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe #cidertasting #elkhornbrewery #bloodorangecider #oregonbrewery #oregonbrewing #oregoncider #oregonorchards #oregonfarmer #adhdfamilytravel #familytravelcreator #familytraveltiktoker #oregonfamily #pnwfamily #pnwfamilies #oregonfamilies #familytravelvlog #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familytravelvlogger #familytravelinfluencer #travelwithkids ♬ original sound – DinkumTribe ADHD family travel

I was the driver for the day, but I found another way to get my kicks :

@dinkumtribe This was so much fun! Brian had never ridden a mechanical bull before, but he got one and went for it. Only minor scratches and some stiff muscles later on. @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe #dadsoftiktok #cowboydadlife #mechanicalbullriding #rideemcowboy #toofunny🤣🤣🤣 #doitafraid #bestpumpkinpatch #appleorchard #appleorchardfun #salemoregon #oregonexplored #traveloregon #adhdfamilytravel #familytravelcreator #familytraveltiktoker #oregonfamily #pnwfamily #pnwfamilies #oregonfamilies #familytravelvlog #familytravelblog #familytravelblogger #familytravelvlogger #familytravelinfluencer #travelwithkids ♬ Rocky: Eye of the Tiger – Best Movie Soundtracks

Elk Horn brewery, pub, and cider house can be found right next to the University of Oregon . The family-owned business offers a strong menu of Southern fare, 24 of their own craft brews, and a whiskey list as well.

Drink menus sit on the top of Detering Orchard's handsome cider bar.

Ninkasi Brewing Company

A beer flight at Ninkasi brewery. Ninkasi is one of the premier Eugene Oregon breweries.

Ninkasi is one of Eugene’s best breweries and a vanguard of the craft beer movement. The colorful creative brewery and their pub, The Better Living Room, have become a force both in Eugene and the Pacific Northwest.

It’s hard not to love Ninkasi’s drinks. Each bottle’s colorful, creative branding is a fun reflection of the bold flavors that you’re about to encounter.

Ninkasi Brewery stands in Eugene's Whiteaker neighborhood.

We are most taken by Ninkasi’s Oatis Oatmeal Stout, an incredibly smooth, decadent treat. Sleigh’r is my absolute favorite brown ale. This winter ale has a warm, roasty flavor with a hint of bitterness.

Jennifer enjoys the Total Domination Northwest IPA, but I can’t manage it! If you like grapefruit than this is the drink for you. This amber-hued beer has a strong tang that’s quite bitter on the tongue. Ninkasi’s Dawn of the Red IPA is a milder IPA that I found easier to appreciate.

A beautiful glass of Sleigh'r ale awaits me on a family chili night. Ninkasi is one of the most excellent of Eugene Oregon breweries.

Experience Ninkasi’s brewing craft at their pub, The Better Living Room, which is located in Eugene’s Whiteakre neighborhood. The Better Living Room offers regular tours, including a tasting room and outdoor seating.

McMenamins Hotel Oregon in McMinnville, Oregon.

Oregon’s premier brewpub has its own place among Eugene Oregon breweries. McMenamins is a giant of craft culture, serving an incredible array of beverages at its 60+ locations.

McMenamins seeks to defy the conventional by providing great food and drinks in exceptional locations . Eugene offers three McMenamins venues.

High Street Brewery & Cafe

You may have trouble spotting Eugene’s first post-prohibition microbrewery. The High Street Brewery produces small batches of wonder in the basement of a historic, renovated house.

McMenamins’ High Street brewery is known for its limited release brews, such as Grandma Betty’s Quilted IPA. Enjoy a pint inside this early 20th century house, outside by the fire pit, or in the adjoining beer garden .

High Street Brewery is McMenamin's one brewery among Eugene Oregon breweries.

East 19th Street Cafe

“East 19th” is McMenamins’ university hangout. The funky pub not only offers burgers and beer, but also provides a wide selection of activities.

Play pool, pinball, darts, and shuffleboard, or strike up a conversation beside the wood stove. The bohemian retreat is only a block away from the University of Oregon campus.

Parks sit in a parking lot beside McMenamins East 19th Cafe.

Given McMenamins’ love of historic sites, you might be envisioning a bank-gone-brewpub. Actually, McMenamins North Bank sits on the north side of the Willamette River.

North Bank boasts a river view for every table, both outside and inside of the restaurant. Enjoy riverside dining in a retro-cool 1979 restaurant.

Be sure to check out the Kapu Hut , a fully decked out tiki bar. This tribute to explorers celebrates Gulliver’s Travels with Brobdingnagian drinks and Lilliputian cocktails.

Brobdingnagian: gigantic Lilliputian: trivial or very small Oxford Languages

Falling Sky Brewery

Growlers at Falling Sky say "Let it Pour". Falling Sky Brewing is one of several Eugene Oregon breweries.

Celebrate “Oregon sunshine” (rain) at Falling Sky Brewing . This low-key brewery provides pub fare, house-brewed beer, and local spirits. Noteworthy beers include Hazy Hawkeye Imperial Hazy IPA (7.5% ABV, 62 IBU), Drenched Earth, a bourbon barrel-aged winter ale (11.3% ABV, 63), and Cheers to the Land, a cascading dark ale with spruce tips (6.2% ABV, 52 IBU).

Fermentation tanks work away inside Falling Sky brewing.

Alesong Brewing

Barrel-aged beers are the norm at this highly-rated artisan brewery. Alesong produces carefully crafted wild and sour beers using local ingredients. They also produce beers that are barrel-aged in bourbon barrels.

You can test Alesong’s expertise at their Countryside Brewery in Eugene’s wine country, or in their tasting room in downtown Eugene.

My wife enjoys a craft beer at the Noble Fox in Silverton Oregon.

Oregon’s Craft Culture

Oregon’s the place to experience craft brewing and artisan foods. Join us as we discover Oregon’s best restaurants and brewpubs on TikTok , YouTube , Facebook , Instagram, and Twitter .

Viking Braggot Company

Vikings drink from drinking horns in an ancient sculpture of a viking drinking scene.

Experience an ancient brewing tradition at this highly-rated brewery. The Viking Braggot Company presents itself as the only brewery to offer a complete line of braggots, an ancient Viking beer.

Braggot is made from aspects of beer as well as fermented honey. The Viking Braggot Company has brought braggot into the modern age by using local honey and craft beer ingredients.

Hop Valley Brewing Company

Fermentation tanks stand at Hop Valley Brewing, the most IPA focused of the Eugene Oregon breweries.

Enter an IPA wonderland at Hop Valley Brewing Company . Of all the Eugene Oregon breweries, only Hop Valley is so hop-wild.

Hop Valley produces no less than twelve different IPAs including the Citrus Mistress IPA (6.5% ABV, 80 IBU), Cryo Stash Imperial IPA (8.7% ABV, 40 IBU), and the jaw dropping Alpha Centauri Imperial IPA (9% ABV, 100 IBU).

@dinkumtribe Been awhile since we shared a new brew tasting here- this porter was slightly sweet, lighter than expected and definitely giving brownie vibes. @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel @DinkumTribe ADHD family travel #oregoncraftbeer #craftbeertok #oregonbrewery #porterbeer ♬ New Abundance

You don’t have to be an IPA fan to enjoy a drink here. Hop Valley also produces their Bandon Dunes Pale Ale (5.5% ABV, 35 IBU), and Red Can Light Lager (4.1% ABV).

Visit Hop Valley Brewing Company at their Eugene brewery or their Springfield area pub. Hop Valley Brewery does not welcome the presence of minors.

Coldfire Brewing Company

A close up picture of malt.

Europe meets Pacific Northwest at Coldfire Brewing Company. Coldfire is one of the few Eugene Oregon breweries that emphasizes European brewing traditions.

Their beers include the Capulus Robustus Vanilla Coffee Stout (6.7 % ABV), Astral Weeks Belgian Style Dubbel (6.9% ABV), and Munich Dunkel Lager (5.5% ABV).

Coldfire Brewing Company is located in downtown Eugene, near to the historic Ferry Street Bridge.

Steelhead Brewing & McKenzie Brewing Co.

A variety of beers await drinkers at Steelhead Brewing.

Enjoy one of Eugene’s oldest brewery establishments. Steelhead Brewing offers great brewpub fare and all McKenzie Brewing beers at their E. 5th Ave. & Pearl Street location.

Meals include halibut tacos and their beer-braised Reuben sandwich. Try their Hopasaurus Rex Imperial IPA (9.5% ABV / 100 IBU), Heat Miser (7.8 % ABV / 70 IBU), Northern Lights Blueberry Sour (5.4% ABV /23 IBU), or the Jumon Japanese Lager (4.7% ABV / 16 IBU).

Oakshire Brewing

A glass of dark Oakshire Espresso Stout sits on top of an old fashioned lace tablecloth.

Taste delicious craft beer at one of Oregon’s top craft breweries . Oakshire’s brews include Citrafonix IPA (6.3% ABV, IBU 65), Visit Italia Italian-style Pilsner (5.4% ABV), and the celebrated Overcast Oatmeal Espresso Stout (5.8% ABV, IBU 27).

Delicious food can also be had at the multiple food carts that frequent their two locations: Oakshire Brewing Public House in Eugene and Oakshire Beer Hall in Portland.

Sunriver Brewing Co. – Oakway Pub

Image shows a dark Ale in the foreground of a picture of the menu at Sunriver Brewing Company.

One of the best Eugene breweries isn’t technically brewing in Eugene . Sunriver Brewing hails out of Sunriver, in Central Oregon.

That said, beer lovers shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to try the brews of this top-notch craft brewery. Sunriver’s Oakway Pub holds the greatest number of tap handles of any of its locations. The Oakway Pub offers several of Sunriver’s limited-release beers and features menu items that only appear at their Eugene location.

@dinkumtribe Sunriver Brewing Company’s Cocoa Cow is one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. The best description I can give that it’s like drinking a chocolate Coke without all the sugar but with all the yummy flavor. @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe @dinkumtribe #CraftBrew #OregonBrewing #OregonBeer #OregonCraftBeer #ChocolateStout #SunriverBrewingCompany #cocoacow #youroregon #thatoregonlife #traveloregon #visitoregon #oregonisawesome #bestoforegon ♬ Epic Music(863502) – Draganov89

We were first wowed by Sunriver’s Cocoa Cow Chocolate Milk Stout (7% ABV / 28 IBU). Sunriver’s beers also include the Fuzztail Hefeweizen (5% / 20 IBU) and their Vicious Mosquito – West Coast IPA  (7% ABV / 70 IBU).

Eugene Oregon Breweries Obituary:

BREWERY LISTS , OREGON

List of Eugene’s Top Breweries

March 3, 2019

brewery tour eugene

Until we write our full guide to Eugene, here is a list of the best craft breweries in the greater Eugene area, according to Untappd, along with information about hours of operation and food options. This list will be updated frequently, but if you notice anything inaccurate on this list, or if you see that we accidentally left off a brewery, please kindly let us know and we’ll fix it as soon as we can! We strive to provide the most accurate and up-to-date source of brewery information possible. (For why we chose to sort by Untappd rating, please check out our FAQ .) And, as always, before going to a brewery, check their website or social media to see if they have food trucks on certain days, food delivery options, or irregular hours that day.

Also, be sure to sign up for our newsletter for weekly updates on new brewery hop guides, new research lists for cities across the country, new events on our event calendar, and more. Those in Oregon should check out our brewery hop guide to Portland — and check out our research guides for Bend and the Oregon Coast — and tell your friends! Cheers!

NOTE: As the world continues to re-open after this spring’s COVID-19 pandemic quarantine, many who have re-opened their taprooms are now operating on a different schedule than they had in place pre-quarantine. We will be updating our site as quickly as we can, but it’s very possible that the information on our brewery lists regarding dates, times, and food availability is no longer accurate. Before heading to any brewery, please check the brewery’s social media to determine their hours of operation, and be sure to read our guide for beer travel as the pandemic continues . Thanks!

Craft Beer Tour 2021: Eugene, OR

These photos were taken Thursday afternoon, September 30, day 16 of my Craft Beer Tour 2021, when I revisited Eugene, Oregon. This time I spent my time at Hop Valley Brewing Company and Manifest Beer Company. I had planned on leaving Oregon City on Wednesday, but my presence was an asset for my friends, so I hung out another day.

I set my sights for Eugene as I wanted to visit a friend I had not seen since my visit in 2018; our plans were to meet for lunch and a beer at Hop Valley Brewing. When I pulled into their parking lot I noticed a text message suggesting I would be doing this visit solo due to illness.

It was a pretty day in Eugene, which may have accounted for why while I arrived there shortly after opening time, and they were still setting up tables on the patio, there was a line of people waiting to be seated.

Hop Valley Brewing is a brewpub that was established in 2009 and now has two locations, with the production brewery and tasting room being in Eugene, with a brewery and restaurant in Springfield.

After getting permission to take some [limited] photos, I grabbed a seat inside (so I would be able to work on my phone without battling the sun), and ordered up a flight with a hop pretzel. With 21 beers available on tap, choosing six for a flight would be my toughest job of the day (so far). I opted for their Alphadelic IPA, Blonde Ale, Citrus Mistress IPA, Alpha Centauri IPA, Cryo Stash DIPA, and Rico Guave. Alpha Centauri and Citrus Mistress were my favorites and earned a ride home in one of my coolers.

While I was enjoying my pretzel and beers, deeply involved in my note taking, I heard the five words I love hearing the most when traveling “Are you Craft Beer Guy?”

I looked up to see a young man that introduced himself to me as part of the Hop Valley Brewing social media team; apparently they had noticed some of my Instagram photos . After a little chat and them gifting me a t-shirt, I asked if it would be possible to grab some photos of the brewing operation without being behind a window. My request was granted, and while I could not get into the belly of the beast, it was obvious that Hop Valley Brewing was one of the largest operations I had seen on this journey.

The Hop Valley Brewing Company location I visited is located at 990 W. 1st Avenue in Eugene. They are open seven days a week, have an extensive food menu, and offer cans and crowlers to-go.

Typically when I do these craft beer tours I fly by the seat of my pants; by that I mean I rarely know where I am going to be, much less when I will be there. It was the most difficult part about using AirBNB, I had to forfeit one night’s prepayment because they don’t offer refunds and I was not where I thought I would be. When I do know where I will be, I will often reach out to the brewery I plan on visiting to get permission to photograph things like the brewhouse. Sometimes the brewery responds, many times they do not. Since I knew I would be in Eugene and I would want to visit more than one brewery, I set my sights on Manifest Beer Company as they had responded to my inquiry.

If I have my facts right, Manifest Beer Company open in 2018, but the tasting room may not have been sufficient; in the last year or so they opened a second location down the street where you can sit down and enjoy a beer with some food options. This new location used to be a Starbucks, so you know it is a nice airy location, close to a corner. This is where I met co-founder/brewer/chief bottle washer Brandon Woodruff, who seemed to know who I was as soon as I walked in the door.

Like they say, timing is everything and the timing for this visit probably could have been better as there were multiple hiccups that day, including six out of twelve taps being out of commission and a shortage of aluminum cans which had Woodruff apologizing for not being able to take me down to the brewery but he had priorities that had to be attended to. Luckily, Manifest had good beers, friendly customers, and a pleasant view of a quaint downtown Eugene.

While there were only six taps pouring, a flight consists of five pours, so my job was pretty easy this time. I opted for their Unconventional Ladders: El Dorado IPA, Dank SAP IPA, Drip: Blueberry Birthday Cake, Imminent Haze DIPA, and Drip: Mosaic Peach Sour. While I probably expected Dank SAP to be my favorite, Imminent Haze and the two sours were outstanding. If it had not been for their aluminum can shortage I would have some in my fridge now.

The Manifest Beer Company Broadway Public House is located at 39 W. Broadway in Eugene. They are open daily, have a dog friendly patio, and usually offer cans and crowlers to-go.

It would not have taken much convincing to get me to hang out longer, but I needed to investigate somewhere I had never been. Next stop Medford. Cheers!
