The 2012-built Celebrity Reflection cruise ship is the 5th and last of the Solstice-class Celebrity Cruises boats, together with Equinox , Silhouette , Solstice , Eclipse . Celebrity Cruises Reflection ship is currently scheduled for "Celebrity Revolution" drydock refurbishment on February 2, 2023.

The vessel (IMO number 9506459) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 229074000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1988 as the Greece-based Chandris Line (cruise shipping operations between 1974-1996). In 1997, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) merged with "Celebrity Cruises Ltd" to become "Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd" (RCCL). The "X" on ship funnels is the Greek letter chi (standing for "Chandris"). Common features of Celebrity Cruises ships include aft located glass-walled dining rooms, signature alternate dining venues, bars and lounges, spacious Atrium lobby areas, a large number of balcony staterooms, large sundecks with swimming pools, The Retreat (adults-only sundeck with full-size swimming pool, Jacuzzi, cabanas, poolside full bar service). Rooftop Terrace (top-deck outdoor lounge-restaurant-cinema), large Spa (with Thermal Suites), premium retail shops selling top-brand merchandise.

The 3000-passenger ship Celebrity Reflection is a cruise ship with extraordinary size, innovative interior design and one more deck added. The newest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, Celebrity Reflection is the 5th of the series and last in the highly well-received Solstice class. The capacity of passengers is over 3000, and they have the comfort of a variety of stateroom categories, plus suites. Reflection's godmothers are four female employees of Celebrity who have been affected by breast cancer. The ship sailed on her maiden voyage on October 12, 2012.

Decks and Cabins

Celebrity Reflection staterooms (1523 total, in 33 grades) include 108x Suites, 1183x Balconies, 70x Oceanviews, 154x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 195 ft2 / 18 m2. Of all cabins, 85% have private step-out balconies. Wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers/ADA-certified) are 30.

On Reflection were introduced the fleet's first "AquaClass Suites" (34 total, sized 300 ft2 / 28 m2, each with 80 ft / 7 m2 balcony), "Signature Suites" (sized 440 ft2 / 41 m2, floor-ceiling balcony doors, butler service) and "Reflection Suites" (fleet's first - sized 1635 ft2 / 152 m2, with 155 ft2 / 14 m2 terrace). There are also"Concierge Class" (277), "AquaSpa Class" (152), "Sky Suites" (48), "Celebrity Suites" (12), "Royal Suites" (9) and 1 "Penthouse Suite" (ship's largest accommodation, 1290 ft2 / 120 m2, with terrace sized 390 ft2 / 36 m2).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The main dining area on Celebrity Reflection, Opus, occupies space on the ship's third and fourth decks. Opus is quite elegant, decorated in browns and silvers, with white tablecloths and crystal. The vast space accommodates 40 more seats than on Celebrity Silhouette, but the tables are too close together, which makes conversation difficult. Passengers in AquaClass staterooms or suites eat at Blu, which offers lighter "spa-inspired" cuisine. They have the option to eat in Opus MDR if they prefer such an experience. Reflection offers a number of for-fee venues, including Qsine (for US$45 per person), Italian steakhouse Tuscan Grill (US$45), French-continental Murano (US$45), D.I.Y. steak experience Lawn Club Grill (US$40), creperie Bistro on 5 (US$10) and The Porch (US$5, panini restaurant open for breakfast and lunch). Qsine diners can order on iPads, then waiters bring the food in the order of choosing.

• Bistro on Five (72-seat creperie all-you-can-eat restaurant; offers lunch and dinner with table-side service)
• Qsine (90-seat dinner only specialty restaurant, reservations recommended, open 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.)
• Blu (152-seat AquaClass passengers only restaurant, reservations required; also serves Suite guests upon availability)
• AquaSpa Cafe (36-seat complimentary Solarium and Spa bar, self-service; offers healthy food choices for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)
• Oceanview Cafe & Bar (885-seat indoor/outdoor self-service buffet restaurant, complimentary; open between 6:30 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, with a variety of food stations)
• Tuscan Grille (144-seat specialty seafood/steakhouse restaurant; reservations-only)

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Ship's Lawn Deck is equipped with real grass and the vessel has more deck chairs than others, offering a calm atmosphere under the sun. The Celebrity iLounge gives guests computer tutorial classes and is also a representative of Apple, providing access to the most affordable Mac products available at duty-free prices. Another feature of Celebrity Reflection is the AquaSpa café, ideal for a quick lunch after the spa. The Sky Observation Lounge offers live music at sunset, or you can test your luck at Fortune’s Casino – there’s something to do onboard at any time.

In 2023, Celebrity introduced pickleball playing (at the sports courts) fleetwide. The sports facilities are complimentary, including the pickleball equipment (net, paddles, balls) but operated with separate scheduled playing times for adults and families (with kids older than 6).

Pickleball Court's locations vary by ship class - on EDGE ships is at the Rooftop Garden (Deck 15), on SOLSTICE ships is on the Sports Deck (Deck 15), on MILLENNIUM ships - at the Multi-Sports Court (Deck 12).

Celebrity Reflection Debuts New Look After Drydock at Chantier Naval de Marseille

The Celebrity Reflection became the latest ship to showcase Celebrity Cruises’ new look following a drydock in France.

After spending over ten days at the Chantier Naval de Marseille, the 2012-vessel is now sporting a blue-colored hull that was first introduced by the Celebrity Edge in 2018 .

Part of the company’s new livery, the look is now present on ten of the 12 Celebrity Cruises large cruise ships.

During its recent shipyard visit, the Reflection also underwent maintenance and technical upkeep, in addition to regulatory and class work.

Set to cross the Atlantic for a winter season in the Caribbean, the Solstice-Class ship recently completed its tenth year in service .

First introduced in 2012, the 126,000-ton vessel is slightly larger than its four sister ships and features an extra deck with additional public areas and cabins.

Among its facilities is a glass-enclosed pool deck, a selection of ten dining venues – including five specialty restaurants – and a three-deck main theater.

The Reflection also features Celebrity’s unique Lawn Club, an outside deck with a half-acre real grass lawn, as well as the exclusive Reflection Suite.

The two-bedroom accommodation offers a total of 150 square meter of space, in addition to a distinctive, all-glass shower extending out over the edge of the 3,030-passenger ship.

With its new blue hull, the Reflection is set to offer week-long cruises to the Caribbean during Celebrity’s 2022-2023 winter season .

Departing from Fort Lauderdale on every Sunday, the vessel will sail an alternating schedule of Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages.

Itineraries include visits to popular destinations in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, The Bahamas and more.

For the 2023 summer, the Reflection is slated to return to Europe for a series of seven- to ten-night cruises to the Mediterranean.

Theater and Shows on Celebrity Reflection

The main theater offers a production show, along with guest performances from magicians, comedians, singers and the like. This takes place in the Reflection Theater. Performances generally have an early and late option, so you can join no matter when your dinner time is. Matinee shows also are shown.

Other activities and performances take place throughout the ship – in the ship’s Grand Foyer, for example, or in the various bars and lounges onboard.

Daily Things to Do on Celebrity Reflection

The daily itinerary is jam-packed on Celebrity Reflection. You’ll get a daily planner left each evening in your cabin for the next day’s activities. You also can use Celebrity’s excellent app to keep track of what is upcoming, select favorites to add to your personal calendar and even make reservations.

Most activities, including trivia, pool games, guest and officer relay challenges, and arts and crafts, are included in your cruise fare. Mixology classes, wine and spirit tastings and casino tournaments come with an additional fee, and they might require a signup ahead of time.

Activities take place mostly in one of only a few areas: Reflection Theater, Sky Lounge, poolside, the Grand Foyer and Celebrity Central, which shows movies each day.

Nightlife on Celebrity Reflection

People stay up late on Celebrity Reflection, packing into the ship’s public spaces till late. The nature of the short sailings perhaps has guests wanting to wring every second of fun from their vacations. Guests will enjoy long dinners, take in the show and then move around to the various bars and lounges.

The ship also offers a casino, located on Deck 4. It offers table games as well as slot machines. Smoking isn’t permitted in the casino.

Celebrity Reflection Bars and Lounges

With 11 bars and lounges, guests will find something they like on Celebrity Reflection. Many host some sort of entertainment – often a musical duo or band – and all offer unique cocktails along with more typical orders.

Celebrity Reflection offers alcoholic drink packages ( either the Classic or Premium ) along with a nonalcoholic package that covers soft drinks, mocktails, coffee and more. Many guests opt to buy drink packages, which generally cover the cost of many drinks onboard. If the drink is priced higher than your package max, you just pay the difference. The Classic Package comes with the All-Included offer.

For a Pre-Dinner Tipple: The Sunset Bar is the spot to grab a drink, watch the sun go down and chat with new friends about what you did that day and what you’re doing the next. Bar service is fast, and the vibe is chill. One minor note: Smoke from the nearby outdoor smoking section can waft the way of the bar.

For Nonstop Action: Our favorite bar on Celebrity Reflection is the Martini Bar & Crush, where bartenders put on a high-energy show, tossing tumblers and balancing glasses on their foreheads. Do yourself a favor and order a flight; encourage your friends to do the same.

For the Views: Take in the incredible views from the front of the ship at the Sky Lounge, all the way forward on Deck 14. It’s a large space where you can dance, play trivia or carve out a spot for quiet conversation. Fun fact: The bar offers Zodiac drinks, prepared by flair bartenders. Drink your sign, even if you’re not a water sign.

For Something Different: You have to visit the World Class Bar at least once. Here, you’ll enjoy what the line calls “fine drinking” with premium spirits and fresh ingredients. Offerings are unusual, and it’s as much fun to watch the bartenders make the cocktails as it is to drink them. Be aware, though, that many drinks run from $20 and more, which is not covered by either drink package. You’ll pay the difference.

For Boozy Coffee: Or for just coffee. Cafe Al Bacio is our favorite coffee shop at sea. If you want a little kick to your coffee, baristas can accommodate. It’s also a great spot if you want a little nosh with your coffee, as pastries, desserts and savory snacks are always offered (and always included.

For Retreat Guests: The sign on the door says Michael’s Club, but crew will call it the Retreat Lounge. This exclusive bar for suite guests has a clubby vibe, thanks to dark wood, leather furniture and a quiet but convivial vibe. Predinner music is offered here.

For the Wine: Head to Celler Masters, which has the most extensive wine collection of all the venues on Celebrity Reflection. You also can purchase nibbles here, like cheesy chicken bites or truffle fries.

Pools and Hot Tubs on Celebrity Reflection

Celebrity Reflection has two pool areas: The main pool, which is outdoors on Deck 14, and the adjacent indoor Solarium pool, which is open to adults only. Separated only by a door, they feel miles apart. While the main pool area is lively and filled with scheduled activities, the Solarium is serene and quiet.

The outdoor pool area has two pools right next to each other and four hot tubs. It also has lots of lounge chairs and several sunbeds that are sometimes shaded, depending on the position of the sun.

On sea days, the pool deck is busy from sun up to sun down, and people come out early to “reserve chairs” by placing towels, hats, flip-flops and the like on them. This “chair hog” practice is not encouraged by Celebrity. In fact, signs are placed on chairs to let passengers know their stuff will be removed if the chair is not filled with a real human being in a certain time period. This doesn’t seem to dissuade the practice.

The Solarium also offers lounge chairs and sunbeds. The pool is large here; we saw several lap swimmers enjoying morning swims here each day.

Sundecks on Celebrity Reflection

Your best bet for a lounge chair is Celebrity Reflection’s Solstice Deck, located on Deck 16. It’s got easy access to both the Mast Grill and the Mast Bar. There isn’t a lot of shade up here, so slap on lots of sunscreen and watch your time (and skin) carefully.

If you are willing to invest, you can reserve one of the Lawn Club Cabanas. These are shaded and offer views of the Lawn Club as well as the sea. You’ll get perks like bottled water, fans, fresh fruit and cold towels. You can also add onto the experience with a picnic package. On our sailing, these were well used on sea days.

One note: It’s a bit of a hike from the cabana to the pools; these might appeal more to people who want to get away from the action than to those who are looking for a pool-day treat.

Services and Wi-Fi on Celebrity Reflection

The ship’s guest service desk is located on Deck 3 adjacent to the Grand Foyer. This is also where you can find the shore excursions desk. An ATM is located here, too.

Wi-Fi, powered by Starlink, is available for purchase, with several package options available. We found the Wi-Fi to be fast and mostly consistent, even when we were taking video calls from our cabin.

Celebrity Reflection features a large variety of shops onboard, open when the ship is at sea. They range from stores offering ship souvenirs and sundries to high-end handbags and watches, and everything in between.

Spa and Thermal Suite on Celebrity Reflection

Celebrity Reflection’s spa, simply called The Spa, is located on Deck 12 at the front of the ship. The spa is nicely laid out, offering a large reception area, salon, barber shop and treatment rooms. Additionally, there’s an easy-to-miss relaxation area a deck below, where you can unwind while awaiting a treatment.

Treatments run the gamut from traditional Swedish massage to deep-tissue and hot-stone treatments. Facials and wraps also are offered, along with a number of medispa options such as acupuncture and IV hydration therapy. Manis, pedis and hair styling, cuts and blowouts take place at the salon.

Celebrity Reflection also offers a relaxing thermal suite, called the Persian Garden . It includes lots of warm ceramic lounges, a hamam, a sensation shower and an aromatherapy room, among others. Guests can buy passes for the Persian Garden, which is included for passengers who book AquaClass cabins or suites.

Hot tip: The hottest – and quietest – sauna is actually the one attached to your changing room; men and women have separate changing rooms, and each has its own sauna.

Fitness and Gym on Celebrity Reflection

We were impressed with Celebrity Reflection’s fitness center, which is large and equipped with a strong variety of free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment. It even has a number of Peloton bikes guests (who have subscriptions) can use. It also has a Smith machine, a rarity on cruise ships.

It’s busiest in the mornings, but we found the sweet spot was right around 4 p.m. That said, even at its busiest, it was still manageable.

Fitness classes, such as yoga or power cycling, are offered in studios nearby each day, for a fee. You can sign up in the fitness center. Classes are included for guests in AquaClass cabins or suites.

The ship also has a jogging track, located on Deck 15. Eight laps around equals one mile. It can be a tight jog, as it’s a single track surrounded by deck chairs. We saw a number of guests trying to extend their morning walk or run by going through the Sunset Bar. That option adds steps but definitely can be a bit of a surprise for people not expecting a runner in that area at that time of day.

Is Celebrity Reflection Family Friendly?

Celebrity Reflection is a good option for families, especially those with older children. It doesn’t have waterslides or splash parks, or really any of the amenities that other, more family-forward lines have, but it’s good kids club facilities with solid programming.

It also visits Perfect Day at CocoCay, the private port created by sister-brand Royal Caribbean. Perfect Day offers everything from an adults-only section to a thrilling waterpark. The port stop makes these itineraries ideal for multigenerational families traveling together.

The ship doesn’t have family-specific suites, but it does have rooms that can accommodate up to four people as well as connecting cabins.

In-cabin babysitting is offered for children 12 months and older (for a fee). Group babysitting, also for a fee, is offered as well.

Like its sister brand, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Reflection is certified autism friendly. Kid club crew are trained in working with children with autism, and clubs offer movies, games and activities suitable for those kids. You also can download a visual or written guide from Celebrity’s website to help prepare yourself and your child for the social situations they might encounter onboard.

Children must be potty trained to use the pools onboard. Babies must be six months old by the first day of the cruise to be allowed to sail.

Celebrity Reflection has a kids menu in Opus Restaurant, offering pizza, spaghetti, mac and cheese and other favorites.

Kids Club on Celebrity Reflection: Camp at Sea

All of the clubs for kids and teens are located on Deck 15 forward. Camp at Sea programming breaks down kids by four different age groups: Shipmates (ages 3 to 5), Cadets (6-9), Captains (10-12) and Teens (13-17).

Shipmates spend time in the Shipmates facility, which is equipped to provide the littlest cruisers hands-on activities like arts and crafts, sing songs and play games. If cribs are needed, a request must be made in writing before you sail.

Cadets and Captains hang out in the Fun Factory. Kids are divided by age so they can participate in age-appropriate activities. For Cadets, they might try out the ship’s nautical program, where they can learn sailing basics. Or, they can play games – in the Fun Factory or at other spots onboard like the Lawn Club – enjoy movie nights or have campouts. Captains could participate in the ship’s cool STEM programming, enjoy scavenger hunts or compete in sports or gaming competitions.

Programming for Teens is far more laid back and hands off. The X Club is part lounge, part dance club and part gaming central. Activities might include a silent disco or video games.

Kids up to 9 years old must be signed in and out of the kids clubs. Tweens can leave on their own but must sign in and out. Teens are free to come and go as they like.

Celebrity Reflection’s New Look

Carnival cruise ship rescues 25 people stranded off the coast of Mexico

A Carnival Cruise Line ship responded to a call from the U.S. Coast Guard and rescued 25 people stranded in a small boat off the coast of Mexico, the company announced Saturday.

The 2,984-passenger Carnival Radiance had left Long Beach, California, on Friday and was heading toward Ensenada Mexico for a three-day sailing when the cruise ship's officers were informed by the Coast Guard "about a distress call involving a small vessel," a news release said.

The ship immediately routed toward the location of the vessel, provided by the USCG, and "quickly" rescued all 25 people on board, including three children, the company said.

The U.S. Coast Guard did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

The rescued group was welcomed onto the cruise ship and given food, water, and medical assistance. Carnival coordinated with the Coast Guard to hand off the group.

The incident did not disrupt the Carnival Radiance's schedule, the company announced.

Another Carnival ship rescued a group of 28 Cuban nationals stuck at sea as it was sailing the Caribbean and saw people signaling for help in late April. The cruise ship was headed from Tampa, Florida, to Roatan in Honduras at the time. Also last month, a Celebrity Cruises ship sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to multiple destinations in the Caribbean rescued a small vessel adrift between Mexico and Cuba.
