Get behind the scenes of Cable News Network (CNN), which is based right here in Atlanta, Ga. A 50-minute guided walking tour lets you peek into the newsroom, control room and much more. Be sure to keep your eyes wide open; there’s no telling who you might see while walking the halls.

Reasons to take the CNN Studio Tour

  • Your tour begins on a long ride up the world’s largest freestanding escalator (which, before CNN, used to take visitors up to “The World of Sid and Marty Krofft,” an indoor amusement park). In fact, during the Sid and Marty Krofft days, the space that is now CNN’s main newsroom was a human pinball machine. The escalator is 196-feet long and eight stories high.
  • You’ll see how a teleprompter works.
  • You’ll find out how the weather map works.
  • You’ll watch the action inside Studio 7, the largest studio CNN has ever built anywhere in the world.
  • You’ll get a better understanding of how newsman John King moves things around on the touch-screen on election night.

Insider tips

  • Although the tour is permanently closed, you can still see the iconic CNN sign outside CNN Center. It is a popular photo spot.
  • The food court at CNN Center provides many options for dining.

3 star rating

This tour of the world's largest newsgathering organization is lots of fun and a uniquely Atlanta experience. The CNN Center is headquarters for CNN, CNN International, and Headline News. During 50-minute guided walking tours, visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at the high-tech world of 24-hour TV network news in action.

You'll find the tour desk in the main lobby near the base of an eight-story escalator. While you're waiting for the tour to begin, you can have a videotape made of yourself reading the day's top stories from behind a CNN anchor desk. The tour starts in an exhibit area where you'll find timelines covering the history of CNN and Turner Broadcasting, interactive kiosks where you can surf the CNN websites or access clips from the top 100 stories that CNN has covered, memorabilia from some of those events, and a journalism ethics display. A theater that re-creates CNN's main control room allows you to experience the behind-the-scenes elements of a news broadcast.

Next, you'll enter a special-effects studio and get a glimpse of the technology that goes into the production of global news. Here you'll discover the magic of a high-tech Blue Chromakey system (it's what's used to broadcast that big map behind the weather folks), see how on-air graphics are made, and learn the secrets of the TelePrompTer.

On another level, visitors get a bird's-eye view of the main CNN newsroom from a glass-walled observation station. From here, you'll see the hustle and bustle of writers composing news scripts. If a live broadcast is in progress -- and chances are good that one will be -- you can see CNN newscasters at work. Tour guides are knowledgeable and can answer virtually any question.

The longer, more extensive VIP tour allows visitors to actually step out onto the main CNN newsroom floor and explore production areas not normally accessible to the public.

After your visit, stop by the Turner Store, which carries network-logo clothing and gift items, along with MGM movie paraphernalia. For sports fans, there's the Braves Clubhouse store, featuring the Atlanta Braves logo on every item you can imagine. There are several restaurants and numerous fast-food outlets in the atrium of the CNN Center, as well as a few shops. Remember that the tour includes quite of bit of walking and a very steep escalator ride, which carries you to great heights to begin your visit. Those afraid of heights might want to consider skipping the tour.

The 50 minute tour is very educational. We had a great tour guide. Control rooms are like what you see on NASA TV. Everyone has several monitors. The 8 floors of stairs wasn't too bad. You don't do them all at once.

The CNN center itself is pretty inpressive. Lots of fast food in the food court and one "sit down" restaurant- Dantanna's.

Parking at CNN Deck is the closest and costs $10. It is uncovered but easy walking distance.

North Texas police, firefighters help 3-year-old battling rare brain tumor live out his dreams

cnn vip tour

By Caroline Vandergriff

Click here for updates on this story

COPPELL, Texas ( KTVT ) — A North Texas little boy who’s battling a rare brain tumor got to live out one of his biggest dreams Monday, thanks to Coppell police and firefighters.

The Coppell Police Department made three-year-old Benedict “Benny” Schiefelbein the honorary police chief for the day.

“To have this moment of joy – I think it’s for Benedict, and I think it’s for us too,” said Jeff Schiefelbein, Benny’s father. “That we can look back and see this. This is going to be a day we won’t ever forget.”

Benny will soon start radiation and chemotherapy. Before the Schiefelbeins enter a world of daily sedation and gut-wrenching side effects, they want to make as many good memories as possible.

“He’s running around, he’s happy, he hasn’t started treatment, so we’re going to celebrate him,” said Amanda Schiefelbein, Benny’s mother.

The little boy’s dream job?

“He likes to switch between police officer and firefighter,” his dad said.

Monday, he got to be both.

“The whole ordeal is weighing on them more than we even realize,” said Coppell Police Chief Danny Barton. “So if we can give them even one great day, one great memory, just to make one hour or one minute feel a little better, then it was well worth it.”

The fire department also rolled out the red carpet for Benny with his very own firefighter uniform. After a VIP tour of the engines, the ambulance and the station, he even got to spray the fire hose.

“This has been a dream come true for everybody in our family,” Schiefelbein said. “I feel a little overwhelmed by all the support and love from all the people who made this possible.”

Schiefelbein and his wife Amanda knew 2024 was going to be a busy year, but they never expected to receive an unexpected diagnosis for one of their seven children.

Their youngest baby was born in late January, and they moved into a new home in Coppell the following week. In the unpacking process, their oldest daughter rediscovered her golf clubs.

“I didn’t think much of it, but she didn’t put the golf clubs away and the little boys got a hold of them,” Schiefelbein said. “The four-year-old Ambrose swung the golf club and hit the three-year-old Benedict in the back of the head.”

Schiefelbein took Benedict to the clinic to get him checked out, thinking they’d be home that night.

“That was towards the end of February, and what happened next changed our whole world,” he said.

Scans found a rare brain tumor that would need to be removed within 48 hours.

“It was one of those life-defining moments, where everything stops,” said Amanda. “I know that from this moment forward, it’s what happened before the brain tumor and what happens after the brain tumor.”

Tests have shown the tumor is a combination of several different types of cancer. Because it’s so rare, it’s not clear what the best protocol or treatment plan will be.

“The miracle was the beginning,” Amanda said. “Being able to find this tumor before any symptoms set in is almost unheard of.”

Now, the Schiefelbeins are leaning on their faith and on each other to get through the next phase of this journey.

“We’re prayerful, hopeful, faithful, and we’ve been going through the stages of grief and it’s exhausting,” Schiefelbein said. “We’re grateful we have such amazing friends and family and a home team to help us keep together, but it’s still really hard.”

See inside Trump's prized $100 million Boeing 757 private jet he's managed to hold onto despite his costly legal battles

  • Donald Trump has a Boeing 757 private jet outfitted with gold-plated seatbelts and a bedroom.
  • The ex-president has used the $100 million plane to fly to rallies and criminal indictments.
  • Trump has owned the jet since 2011 and has held onto it despite his expensive legal battles.

Insider Today

Although he's facing four criminal indictments, former US president Donald Trump  is still flying in style.

According to data from the aircraft-tracking website JetSpy , Trump's prized Boeing 757 private jet arrived at New York's LaGuardia Airport late Saturday evening ahead of his hush-money trial that started on Monday .

Trump paid $100 million for the jet , registered N757AF, in 2011 and has since decked it out with luxuries like a private bedroom and gold-plated seatbelts.

The ex-president, who is now the Republican nominee for the 2024 election, has managed to hold onto his VIP airplane despite the steep $454 million civil penalty he owed New York after losing a recent fraud case, the Associated Press reported in March.

Trump agreed to pay a lower amount than initially asked while he appeals the ruling, per the AP . However, he could have lost key assets — including his aircraft — had he failed to come up with the cash.

Considering the 757 has not only become a staple of Trump's wealth but also acts as a grandiose backdrop at his presidential rallies, it's unlikely he'll easily part with the VIP plane.

Here's a closer look at "Trump Force One."

During his time as president, Donald Trump flew around the world in Air Force One, a specially-modified Boeing 747 used for presidential transport.

The 757 first flew in 1991 and was previously operated by defunct carriers Sterling Airways of Denmark and TAESA Airlines of Mexico.

It also spent time as a corporate aircraft for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen before being sold to Trump.

cnn vip tour

Trump bought the more than three-decade-old plane in 2011 for a reported $100 million, and it became an icon at his campaign rallies all over the US.

And, it was no secret whose plane was flying overhead as it sported a giant "T" on the tail and "TRUMP" written in large letters on the fuselage.

cnn vip tour

However, when Trump won the presidency in 2016, he was required to use the government transport fleet while in office.

He traded in his beloved 757 for the presidential aircraft, but the plane was still used by members of the Trump Organization from 2017 to 2019.

In 2019, the plane was parked at Stewart International Airport in New York where it sat for two years before flying to Louisiana in November 2021 for refurbishment.

Trump announced on his website in May 2021 that the plane, which needed a new paint job and maintenance work, would be "fully restored and updated" in Louisiana and "used at upcoming rallies."

Eric Trump, at the time, posted a time-lapse video on Twitter of the 757's new paint job, which was completed by aircraft refinishing company Landlocked Aviation.
