David Gilmour Announces First 2024 Concert Dates

David Gilmour will perform six shows at London's Royal Albert Hall this October.

The Pink Floyd star will play at the famed venue on Oct. 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15.

His first solo album in nearly a decade, Love and Strange , is due to be released on Sept. 6. Last month he shared the album's first single, " The Piper's Call ."

"I'm coming to the Albert Hall in early October this year, to play my favorite venue, certainly my favorite venue in England," Gilmour explains in a video announcing the shows. "It always has such a wonderful atmosphere, beautiful place. It sounds great, too.

In a recent interview Gilmour expressed an "unwillingness to revisit the Pink Floyd of the '70s" in a concert setting, instead saying that the band's '60s and '80s eras "might be better represented.

However, the video announcing the Royal Albert Hall shows concludes with live footage of Gilmour performing the Waters-era Pink Floyd song "Comfortably Numb."

The ongoing feud between Gilmour and former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters has intensified in recent years. Last year Gilmour's wife and songwriting partner Polly Samson called Waters "antisemitic to your rotten core." Gilmour not only shared her tweet, he labeled it " demonstrably true ."

Waters has mounted several tours focused on Pink Floyd's music, most recently the 2022-23 This is Not a Drill trek

Fans who purchase Luck and Strange from Gilmour's official website will have the first chance to buy tickets for his Royal Albert shows, with tickets going on sale to the general public on May 10.

Last week, David Gilmour unveiled Luck and Strange , a new collection of original songs from the legendary Pink Floyd guitarist due to arrive on September 6 via Sony Music. The artist has made a moment of his first full-length offering since 2015’s Rattle That Lock , returning to his adoring public after nearly a decade away by debuting the dreamy lead single “The Piper’s Call” on BBC Radio 2 and opening up on his process through a presser. This week, Gilmour has granted further insight with a cover story for Uncut , in which the artist expressed his intentions to tour again at long last.

Keen-eyed superfans could note Gilmour’s first intonations of a live series through his UK webstore, which indicated that fans who pre-ordered Luck and Strange would “get early access to future UK dates.” In his Uncut feature, which has made the rounds online via fansite Neptune Pink Floyd , Gilmour clarified that he is presently in the planning stage for a new tour, which would be the artist’s first run since 2016. “For the upcoming tour, rehearsals need to be scheduled and a setlist needs to be put together,” he offers, noting an “asterisk system” in the works to determine which songs will make the setlist. So far, the entire tracking of Luck and Strange is certain to make the cut, “but that’s about as far as I’ve got.”

Gilmour also spoke on his feelings about bringing back classic Pink Floyd, stressing “an unwillingness to revisit the Pink Floyd of the ’70s,” per Uncut . Unfortunately for golden-era die-hards, this formulation counts out iconic entries like Dark Side of the Moon , Wish You Were Here , Animals and The Wall , though it leaves the door open for some formative and mature Floyd cuts.

When asked about the potential for these projects to make the mix, Gilmour offered, “Yeah, they might be better represented. I mean, at least one from the 60s. The one we’ve done in the past is ‘Astronomy’ [“Astronomy Domine,” track one from 1967 debut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn ]. That’s always entertaining and fun and gets people off to a happy start. There’s songs from the [ A ] Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell albums. I mean, I think ‘High Hopes’ is as good as anything we ever did at any time.”

On his backing ensemble, Gilmour shared that he had shifted his band as “it was all too robotic, and some people would have been better off in a Pink Floyd tribute band,” instead opting in 2024 to “get people who are genuinely creative and give them a little more space.” To open this space, the artist intends to recruit some “younger guys alongside Guy [Pratt] and The Webb Sisters, who sang with Leonard Cohen on his last tours.” Pratt is an esteemed instrumentalist who has collaborated with Gilmour since 1984 and toured with Pink Floyd from 1987-1990, later contributing bass to several tracks on 1994’s The Division Bell . The artist is also featured on the Luck and Strange record.

In closing, Gilmour noted that Luck and Strange and the ramp-up to his supporting tour have stoked and focused his creative fire, revealing that fans need not worry about another nine-year wait before the artist’s next project. The artist intends to plunge into his next work immediately after the tour, “which will practically force me to concentrate. I mean, we’ve got plenty more pieces of half-formed music that we can get started on. The intention is to get something else out as soon as possible”

Madonna's Son David, 18, Channels Prince as He Visits the Singer's Studio, Paisley Park: 'Dream Come True'

The teenager has made a name for himself as he's been playing guitar and singing throughout his mom's tour

David Banda is hitting the studio — Prince's studio, that is.

On Thursday, May 2, the 18-year-old son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie posted a series of photos on his Instagram as he visited the "Kiss" singer's studio, Paisley Park. Wearing a floral suit and a lacy top with an ascot, Banda channeled Prince as he sat at the musician's mixing board.

The teenager was also seen posing on Prince's stage and rocking out with one of his electric guitars as he kneeled for a shot.

"One of the best experiences on this tour," Banda wrote, referencing his mom's Celebration tour. "Having the chance to sit in Prince’s studio and play on his stage. A true dream come true 💟💟💟."

In an interview with  W. Magazine  in April, Madonna  spoke about how her kids have been performing with her during the Celebration Tour .

"When I go on tour, nothing brings me more happiness than to know we are all working on the same show, creating the magic together," the proud mom said. "It would be boring if they were just traveling from hotel to hotel, and occasionally coming to watch the show."

"Of course, I am their mother so sometimes we get on each other's nerves. We are a family of artists but we are also a family, and that's what happens."

At the "Material Girl" singer's January N.Y.C. show, David came out on stage in full western gear , wearing a matching cowboy hat with his mom and carrying a guitar. The teenager then sang along with his mom and played background guitar during 2003's "Mother and Father."

After the song finished, Madonna took a moment to honor her own mother and her son David's biological mother.

David Gilmour has announced his plans to tour for the first time in eight years.

The former  Pink Floyd guitarist made the comments in a new interview with Uncut (via  Far Out and Neptune Pink Floyd ) , where he discussed potentially touring his upcoming album ‘ Luck and Strange ‘. It is set for release on September 6.

Speaking to the outlet, Gilmour said there was “an unwillingness to revisit the Pink Floyd of the ‘70s”, but would be more likely to perform songs from other decades: “Yeah, they might be better represented. I mean, at least one from the ’60s. The one we’ve done in the past is ‘Astronomy’ [‘The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’, 1967]. That’s always entertaining and fun and gets people off to a happy start.

“There’s songs from the ‘Momentary Lapse Of Reason’ and ‘The Division Bell’ albums. I mean, I think ‘High Hopes’ is as good as anything we ever did at any time.”

Gilmour also spoke about the amendments he made to his touring band, reasoning: “It was all too robotic, and some people would have been better off in a Pink Floyd tribute band. So I thought we’d get people who are genuinely creative and give them a little more space. That’s the plan. So we’re going to have some of the younger guys alongside Guy and the Webb Sisters, who sang with Leonard Cohen on his last tours.”

Finally, the guitarist teased there was more unreleased material to come, saying he was planning more recording dates once the tour was finished, “which will practically force me to concentrate [on writing more songs]. I mean, we’ve got plenty more pieces of half-formed music that we can get started on. The intention is to get something else out as soon as possible.”

In the same interview, the guitarist and songwriter discussed The Beatles’ documentary  Get Back , calling it a “hard watch” . Directed by Peter Jackson in 2021, Get Back was constructed from over 60 hours of footage when they recorded their final album, 1970’s ‘Let It Be’.

He specifically noted “Paul being domineering and and John ducking back because of the moment he was in at the time and George leaving and coming back.”

“Horrible, really, I mean it’s lovely for us to watch, but I’m surprised Paul allowed it,” he said.

Gilmour also discussed the potential to have an ABBA Voyage -syle holographic Pink Floyd show , saying: “If someone came up with all the money and all the brilliant ideas – and then once we’ve agreed to a series of very, very difficult and onerous conditions – I’d say, ‘Yeah, OK.’”

In other news, the guitarist recently featured on Mark Knopfler’s re-recorded version of his song ‘Going Home’ alongside  Queen ‘s  Brian May ,  Bruce Springsteen ,  Black Sabbath ’s Tony Iommi,  Eric Clapton ,  Rolling Stones  guitarist  Ronnie Wood  and many more.

A woman in central Asian heritage-style dress serves David Cameron a tray of finger food on the runway in front of red-carpeted stairs to his jet plane.

David Cameron under fire for hiring £42m luxury jet for central Asia tour

Foreign secretary’s use of Embraer Lineage 1000 follows £348,000 bill for James Cleverly’s eight-day trip in similar plane in 2023

David Cameron has been criticised for hiring a luxury jet worth an estimated £42m for a recent tour of central Asia.

The foreign secretary travelled on the Embraer Lineage 1000 for a five-day visit to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia last week, the Mirror reported.

Union Aviation, the charter firm that operates the jet, said on its website that a sommelier helps pick the onboard wine selection and that it provides a food menu suitable for “the most demanding passengers”.

The plane’s other features include its own dining table, in addition to a separate relaxation zone with extra-long sofas.

The shadow attorney general, Emily Thornberry, posted on X: “I get that David Cameron may need to charter a plane when travelling to multiple countries in one week, but that does not justify spending hundreds of thousands of pounds at taxpayers’ expense to hire one of the most luxurious private jets on the market.”

Prior to Cameron’s tour, the government said the foreign secretary would use the visit to promote opportunities for British businesses and announce £50m of new funding to support the sovereignty and independence of states across the region.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “The foreign secretary’s job requires him to travel abroad to pursue the UK’s interests. This was the most time effective way to do this in this instance. Value for money is taken into account in all travel decisions and costs are routinely published for transparency.”

Last year, Cameron’s predecessor James Cleverly was criticised for a bill of about €400,000 (£348,000) when he used the same type of plane for an eight-day tour of the Caribbean and Latin America.

Rishi Sunak has also been criticised for his fondness for short-distance air travel for journeys within the UK.

In February 2023 the prime minister travelled to London from Dorset by helicopter and flew back to south-west England by jet the next morning, Downing Street said.

The previous month, Sunak took domestic flights in RAF jets three times in 10 days . He took a 40-minute flight on a 14-seat aircraft to an event in Blackpool, Lancashire, where he took questions from the public. It came after flights to Scotland and Leeds.

Holding Blues GM Doug Armstrong accountable, David Perron’s 4th tour and more: Mailbag, part 2

DENVER, COLORADO - MAY 19: David Perron #57 of the St Louis Blues celebrates with Pavel Buchnevich #89 after scoring a goal against the Colorado Avalanche in the third period during Game Two of the Second Round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Ball Arena on May 19, 2022 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images)

When we ask subscribers to submit questions for our St. Louis Blues mailbag , we typically receive more than 200 responses.

My goal is two-fold: touch on a variety of topics and respond to as many questions as possible.

As long-time subscribers know, I usually split the mailbag into two parts. One of the reasons for that is I like to make part 1 about what’s currently happening with the club and what most people are wondering.

In part 1 on Wednesday, those subjects included the Blues’ potential coaching candidates, Pavel Buchnevich ’s contract situation and whether the team has a talent-evaluation issue.

With part 2, I like to write about bigger-picture concerns, off-the-wall stuff and any personal questions you may have, like how I do my job, etc.

I’ll get into some of that today.

Note: Some questions have been edited lightly for length and clarity.

I’ve thought a lot about fans booing Doug Armstrong. I know he’s made some mistakes, but I don’t feel that this is fair at all. He’s been great in his time here. What is your opinion on how he is currently viewed by the fanbase? — Matthew C.

For fans who aren’t familiar with the booing you’re talking about, it happened at a home game in December after Armstrong fired Craig Berube. He was on the Jumbotron before the game, and fans let him have it. It was understandable because Berube was a popular coach and many felt the roster he had to work with was the reason for the inconsistent play, and thus his dismissal.

Here’s my take on your question: Armstrong has had a lot of success in his 14 years in St. Louis and even going back before his days with the Blues . He’s one of just 11 NHL GMs to reach 800 wins, and he was the second-fastest to do so. Add in his work with Team Canada, and I think he’s a future Hall of Famer.

We all know that not every move is going to work out. But I think it’s fair to say that there has been a run of recent decisions that haven’t. Fans have a right to be critical of that. It’s a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business, and Armstrong hasn’t delivered lately. If he didn’t have the history and reputation he does, perhaps we’d be talking about the possibility of him losing his job.

But with fans like yourself, I think you take a step back from the current state of things and are willing to give Armstrong the benefit of the doubt that he can get it turned around. I wouldn’t argue with that, but I will say that he’s put himself in a position where he has to make a run of positive moves if he’s going to live up to that faith and keep the boo-birds quiet.

Is it time for Blues chairman Tom Stillman to start holding Armstrong accountable? — Lamar O.

I’m certainly not privy to their conversations, so I have no idea what the accountability level is. But I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Stillman really reveres Armstrong.

To my knowledge, with all of the big moves the Blues have made over the years, whether it be Alex Pietrangelo ’s departure or Berube’s firing, Stillman has been on board with Armstrong’s decision-making process. So if Stillman were doing any second-guessing, he’d be second-guessing himself as well.

This doesn’t mean Armstrong’s job security is infinite. But I haven’t gotten the impression the past few years from Stillman that his faith is wavering, and I don’t anticipate that changing anytime soon.

What are the odds of a fourth David Perron tour? — Daniel G.

I feel like when I die, if I’m fortunate enough to have somebody write a brief obituary, it’s going to read: “Mr. Rutherford chronicled David Perron’s years with the St. Louis Blues, answering questions from 2013 to 2024 about the possible return of Perron to the team.” Haha!

Seriously, when it comes to this question, I have learned to never rule it out.

Perron, who had 17 goals and 47 points in 76 games with the Detroit Red Wings this season, is wrapping up his two-year, $9.5 million contract with the club. Colleague Max Bultman, who covers the Wings for The Athletic, tells me Perron indicated to reporters at the end of the season that he wants to come back, and Bultman gets the sense that the team wants him back, too.

Let’s hypothetically say, though, that he did become a free agent this summer. I honestly don’t know if he’d sign in St. Louis. He loves the city, franchise and fans, but I think he was deeply hurt by how his last stint with the Blues ended.

David Perron on his ‘hurtful’ Blues departure: ‘I’m still in a little bit of shock’ #stlblues https://t.co/2pHEDQB6dw — Jeremy Rutherford (@jprutherford) August 1, 2022

Do you think the Blues have a package to get Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators ? — Michael P.

If Tkachuk were available, I believe the Blues could put together something that could interest Ottawa. So is he available? It was another frustrating year for the Senators, and rumors about Tkachuk have percolated, but I would be surprised if general manager Steve Staios and Tkachuk didn’t get on the same page at the end of the season and vow to get back to the playoffs together in 2024-25.

If that doesn’t happen, I could see Tkachuk, who has four more years left on his contract ($8.2 million average annual value), talking his way out of town. What would it take to get him? Jordan Kyrou would likely be involved in a deal that size, and many have suggested that the Blues would have to include goalie Joel Hofer . Perhaps, but keep in mind the Sens have Joonas Korpisalo under contract for the next four years at $4 million.

But in terms of having enough to make a deal like that work, yes, I believe the Blues could do it.

Everybody wants to pry Jakob Chychrun out of Ottawa. Is he even a top-pair defenseman? — David L.

Chychrun is talented, but I don’t think his time in Ottawa has helped his stock. The Senators needed a right-shot defenseman when they acquired him from Arizona, and they’ve wedged him into their lineup. He finally stayed healthy for a full year, playing all 82 games, but the results were just OK. The Senators weren’t great defensively, but he was on the ice for 61 five-on-five goals for and 85 against. He’s got one more year left on his contract ($4.6 million), and he’s definitely worth that playing in your second pair. The issue is his next contract, and with what he’s going to get paid, can he fill that role? Maybe not.

Dalibor Dvorsky wants to be here and it sounds like the Blues are going to give him every opportunity to be. What are the odds he makes the opening night roster? Does he get the nine-game tryout? — Shawn G.

I chatted with Dvorsky for a recent story  and came away really impressed. He’s so mature for being 18 years old, and the people in Sudbury, Ontario, back that up after being around him this season.

It will come down to how comfortable he looks in training camp and the preseason. If he’s overwhelmed, he’ll be back in junior hockey. But if he shows something, I could see him getting a nine-game trial with the Blues before they decide whether to keep him or return him to junior.

“He’ll be playing (in the NHL) before long. To say he’s going to play there next year, I’m not going to rule him out because of his drive and determination. I’ve coached a lot of kids and there’s not many like that guy.” – Ken MacKenzie on Dalibor Dvorsky https://t.co/PIFlnWtvCb — Jeremy Rutherford (@jprutherford) April 30, 2024

I read the Minnesota Wild mailbag the other day and was surprised to hear that Marco Rossi is considered tradable by their fanbase. Do you think he is a player the Blues could be interested in? — Kyle F.

For those interested in reading more about Rossi’s situation in Minnesota, here’s the link to the Wild mailbag. This is somewhat interesting, but I don’t think Rossi would make much sense for the Blues. Yes, he’s a recent top-10 pick, but as mentioned in that mailbag, Minnesota would be moving on from him because of his lack of size (5-foot-9, 182 pounds) and speed. The Wild are going to want a fairly high-end prospect, too.

Who are you hearing that the Blues have eyes on the most in the upcoming draft? — Nicolas P.

As many of you know, the Blues currently have the No. 16 pick in the NHL Draft on June 28 and 29. The draft lottery will be held Tuesday, and the Blues have a 0.5 percent chance of winning, which would jump them to No. 6. That’s obviously a long shot, but officially, we’ll have to wait until next week to find out where they’re picking.

In the meantime, I’ve always been honest when it comes to the draft-eligible players. I don’t see many of them play, other than the odd video, and the Blues are routinely mum on who they like. But colleagues Scott Wheeler and Corey Pronman do a phenomenal job with their reports and rankings at The Athletic , so I would put way more stock into what they have to say. Here’s the latest version of Wheeler’s draft rankings.

As we get closer to the draft, I promise to have a better feel for who makes the most sense.

If the Blues’ top minor-league affiliate was in St. Louis, they would absolutely own the market. What are the biggest variables to make it happen: Suitable building? Overall cost? AHL travel? — David L.

I get this question a lot, and I understand why. To be clear, I haven’t had this conversation with Blues ownership in a long time. But based on previous chats, there just isn’t an appetite to own the AHL affiliate for the cost-related reasons you mentioned. You’re right, if the team were in St. Louis, it would be popular. But the Blues can have their cake and eat it, too, with their agreement with the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds provide all of the needed amenities, and the Blues get a home for their prospects and get to make all hockey-related decisions.

The original five-year agreement began in 2020 and runs through the 2024-25 season. It’s been good for the Blues, and I haven’t heard about them being unhappy, so I would expect it to continue.

It seems hockey more than any other sport brings out the fans’ animosity toward specific players on their own team. The Blues always seem to have one (Jay Bouwmeester, Colton Parayko , Torey Krug , Zach Sanford, etc.). Why is it always a thing? — Adam H.

It does seem to be this way, but speaking for St. Louis, I wouldn’t say hockey any more than baseball. For every Bouwmeester or Parayko, Cardinals fans will tell you there’s a Matt Carpenter. Somebody always has to be the scapegoat.

I’m curious about the report cards you recently published. There were quite a few high grades for the forwards and very high grades for defensemen Colton Parayko and Nick Leddy and goalies Jordan Binnington and Hofer. Not arguing with any of those, but how does your grading assessment fit with the Blues’ record? — Mike B.

In case anyone missed them, here’s my report card for the forwards , and here’s my report card for the defensemen, goalies, coaches and general manager .

It’s a subjective assignment, and my process is kind of a loose one. I look at the individual player and judge their production, consistency, etc., against expectations.

So Parayko, for example, I gave him an A+. Was he the best defenseman in the NHL this season? No. So how does he receive an A+? Well, when I look at Parayko, I believe he did everything he could for the Blues. I gave Leddy an A. When you look at the numbers, and keeping in mind who he played against, I feel like that’s warranted.

There’s definitely room for different interpretations, but I base my opinion on how they performed for this team under the circumstances.

With the comments on your articles being fairly rude, hateful, stubborn and malicious, how do you take care of your mental health? How do sports reporters make sure to prioritize the mental aspect when being open to the public? Would you ever consider writing a story about the day-to-day of a sports reporter? — Noah C.

I hope that answering this question doesn’t come across as self-serving. I get a lot of these types of questions and don’t normally respond. But like I said at the top of this article, I think of part 2 of the mailbag as a chance to step out of the box.

The way I look at it, reader comments — positive and negative — are part of the job. It’s no different than what most other people encounter at their place of employment. Some writers don’t read them or don’t respond. I like to do both. I feel like it’s my responsibility to be engaged. Do the negative ones get you down sometimes? They can, but more so if I’ve made a mistake or haven’t thought something out very well. Otherwise, it’s not too hard to move on.

I’ve never thought about writing that type of story because, when you live it, you kind of go about your day without thinking about it too much. But if there was some interest, I’d try to find a way to present it in a behind-the-scenes way that could be informative. Thanks!

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.
