It's well-established that Tom Cruise is too short to play the Jack Reacher of Lee Child's novels, a broad-shouldered giant of an ex-military policeman described by the author in terms usually reserved for horror movie beasts. But between Cruise's often steely, obsessive screen persona and his multiple-decades-long career as a leading man, he's built up a gravitas that translates to "menace" easily, and he's effective in "Jack Reacher," adapted by Christopher McQuarrie ("Way of the Gun," " The Usual Suspects ") from the novel "One Shot." Even when he's laughing and grinning, Cruise seems like the sort of person one wouldn't want to cross. He can also do icy minimalism (see Michael Mann's " Collateral " for proof), and that's the mode McQuarrie is operating in here, so it's an effective match of leading man and filmmaker, even though the overall impact is that of a superior proof-of-concept pilot for a TV show rather than a rich stand-alone film.

The story begins when a man drives a van into the parking garage across the Allegheny River from a stadium and murders five people with a sniper rifle. Local cops pull a fingerprint from a quarter deposited in a parking meter near the garage where the killer set up and arrest ex-Army sniper James Barr ( Joseph Sikora ). Detective Calvin Emerson ( David Oyelowo ) and District Attorney Alex Rodin ( Richard Jenkins ) offer Barr a choice between confessing to the crimes and going to prison for life. Barr adds a third option: writing "Get Jack Reacher" on a notepad.

Reacher, who came to Pittsburgh after watching TV news coverage of the shootings, visits Barr in the hospital, where he's in a coma with memory loss after having been attacked by fellow inmates during incarceration. Reacher meets Barr's defense attorney, Helen Rodin ( Rosamund Pike ), who happens to be the D.A.'s daughter. The case has a few peculiar details, notably the fingerprinted quarter: what sort of mass murderer pays for parking? What really happened here?

Helen and Reacher (they call him Reacher, almost never Jack) discuss the incident and embark on their own investigation. Well, not exactly: Reacher drives the movie to such a degree that it makes Cruise seem insecure as a leading man (he's more generous in the "Mission: Impossible" movies). He does most of the talking here, trying out his own theories and picking apart Helen's. Mostly Helen is there to (1) help Reacher do things he doesn't have the clearance or access to do for himself, (2) be proved wrong or made to seem naive, and (3) get kidnapped and used as a hostage/leverage in the final stretch of the movie.

Reacher is a sharp and often sardonic investigator in the books and usually becomes the alpha in whatever room he's in. But there's something misguided in this film's tone. It tips things so that we spend two hours watching Reacher be right about (almost) everything. Helen isn't insulted or degraded by the movie, but she's not respected, either, and almost every person who dares step to Reacher gets his butt handed to him in a lunchpail. That gets dull after a while. If Cruise weren't so naturally intense and the filmmaking so assured, it would have gotten dull a lot faster.

The mystery ultimately leads us to the bad guys, but they're introduced to the audience long before Helen and Reacher figure out how they're involved in the mass murder and why they engineered it the first place. The chief henchman is a Reacher-like paramilitary badass played by Jai Courtney . The Big Bad is a gangster posing as a legitimate businessman who goes by the ominous one-syllable name Zec (Russian for "prisoner") and is played by director Werner Herzog .

Zec is a cipher, more a satanic presence than a man. It makes sense that Cruse and McQuarrie would want to fill the part with somebody who is as much of a "brand" in his own way as Cruise. Herzog has chronicled so much madness and evil as a director that it's rubbed off on him by osmosis, even though he comes across as a cheerful eccentric when discussing his art. His work in "Jack Reacher" is one of the best pieces of director stunt casting since Martin Scorsese played the president of Geritol in " Quiz Show ." Herzog brings a genuine sense of menace and a hint of cosmic irony to the role, making the performance feel like more of a statement than a gimmick. You look into Zec's eyes and think that here is a man who has not just seen hell, but purchased real estate there.

There's another cagey old veteran in the cast:  Robert Duvall , who acted with Cruise in "Days of Thunder." He plays Marine Gunnery Sgt. Martin Cash, who helps Reacher go after the bad guys and is an artist with a rifle. The scenes between Cruise and Duvall are the most pleasurable in the film because Duvall is such a thousand-pound bull of an actor that Cruise knows he'll get the best results from a scene by waving a cape at him, then stepping aside to let him gallop and kick. Duvall often seems to be busting Cruise's chops, more so than Cash busting Reacher's. This levels out Cruise's control-freak approach to the "hero" part just when it threatens to suffocate the film.

McQuarrie deserves credit for having enough faith in the power of his filmmaking to limit himself to a handful of self-contained action scenes, none of which are big by modern Hollywood standards, and make them feel wild, messy and harrowing rather than hide inside of the software-buffed vague digital slickness that has become so common. A fight between Reacher and three men in a house, two of whom corner him in a bathtub and try to kill him with bats, feels real even when Reacher is making like 1980s Schwarzenegger and using one man's head as a makeshift bowling ball to beat another man's face in.

Cruise has that Harrison Ford gift for acting his way through action and reacting to things the way we might, even if we had the hero's experience and training. The movie is never funner or more exciting than when Reacher is facing off against men whose machismo has poisoned the part of their brain that produces common sense and who fail to read Reacher as somebody who makes promises, not threats. Sometimes things will get intense even by Reacher's standards and he'll throw off a reaction that says, "I can't believe I'm in a life-or-death situation for the fourth time this week" right before he rallies and neutralizes the people who are causing him problems.

The climax should serve as a model for anybody hoping to stage comprehensible action in a vast, dimly lit space (the cinematographer is  Caleb Deschanel , who shot " The Black Stallion ," " The Right Stuff " and other classics). Every moment is so cleanly conveyed that you could write out a police report and not forget anything important. "Reacher" is a solid mystery-action picture, made memorable by the caliber of craft that its cast and crew brings to the table.

'Reacher': release date, cast, plot, trailer, first looks, and everything you need to now about the Jack Reacher spin-off

Amazon's 'Reacher' is a new action-packed adaptation on Prime Video featuring Lee Child's famous hero.

'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson ready for action and out to prove he didn't commit murder.

Jack Reacher fans have an all-action thriller series featuring their favorite hero to get their teeth into. Move over Tom Cruise though, as Reacher on Amazon Prime Video will star Titans ’ Alan Ritchson as the towering, roaming veteran military police investigator in a thrilling new action-packed mystery crime series based on the novels by Lee Child .

Like the famous movies starring Tom Cruise, 2012’s  Jack Reacher  and 2016’s  Jack Reacher: Never Go Back , the eight-part series is packed with bare-knuckle fight scenes, clever stunts, gun battles, and a hint of romance, and has author Lee Child on board as executive producer.

So here’s everything we know so far about the Jack Reacher spin-off coming to Amazon Prime Video, including its first-look pictures and trailer…

'Reacher' arrives Feb 4 2022.

'Reacher' release date

All eight episodes of Reacher will be released worldwide Friday, Feb. 4 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.

It's one of a string of exciting things coming to Amazon Prime, including Amazon's Lords of the Rings TV series .

Is there a 'Reacher' trailer?

Yes, there's a great trailer for Reacher released by Amazon Prime Video. It shows Ritchson’s Reacher arriving in fictional town of Margrave, where he piques the interest of the local authorities, who are disturbed by the seven deaths that coincide with his arrival. It shows some thrilling fist fights, an obligatory topless shot, plus a scene of him popping off a beer bottle with just his muscles, and also hints at some romance for the character. Take a look at all the action right here with the trailer below plus a further clip (with a lot of fighting)...

'Reacher' plot

Reacher is based on Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel, Killing Floor , and follows the police investigator fresh out of the military, as he turns up in the small town of Margrave, Georgia, to find a community dealing with its first murder in 20 years. The cops immediately arrest Reacher and eyewitnesses claim to place Reacher at the scene of the crime. But while he works to prove his innocence, a deep-seated conspiracy begins to emerge.

"Within minutes of him arriving, he's arrested for murder," says Alan Ritchson, 39. "He basically has to solve the case to prove his innocence, and along the way he starts to uncover this sinister plot, and realises it’s close to home!’

Jack Reacher is a former military man.

'Reacher' cast — Alan Ritchson on playing Jack Reacher

Alan Ritchson plays Jack Reacher.

Alan Ritchson is best known for playing Hank Hall (aka Hawk) in DC’s Titans and Aquaman in Smallville . And at six foot three inches tall, he’s much closer to the imposing six foot five character in Lee Child’s novels compared to Cruise, who’s five foot seven.

Reacher star Alan Ritchson told Whattowatch.com : "He is a retired military police officer who is huge, violent, highly intelligent, and an incredible detective. Now that he’s out of the military, he sort of wanders the country, and trouble seems to find him. He’s that knight in shining armour who cleans up the streets for us. He is the drifter who comes into town, and who doesn’t rely on the law because he is the law."

Alan says he found Reacher’s combination of brains and brawn, together with his tendency not to say much, fascinating to play. "You expect somebody who looks like that to be a bit of a brute. But Reacher’s so sharp that he's one step ahead of everybody. He's a man of few words, and he allows people to believe what they want to believe about him. So he’s a mental gymnast, but the size of an ox!"

'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson is 6ft 3in tall..

'Reacher' cast — who else is starring

The Reacher cast also includes  What We Do in the Shadows ’ Harvey Guillén and  iZombie ’s Malcolm Goodwin, while  The Goldfinch ’s Willa Fitzgerald as cop Roscoe Conklin and Bruce McGill ( My Cousin Vinny ) plays Mayor Teale.

You'll also see Jack Reacher as a child, so there must be flashback scenes somewhere along the line in the drama. Young Reacher is played by Maxwell Jenkins, who famously plays Will Robinson in Lost In Space on Netflix.

Fans of British soaps should look out for Matthew Marsden, who was Chris Collins in Coronation Street . He plays Stan Reacher in this drama.

'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson on duty with Willa Fitzgerald.

A brief guide to the previous Jack Reacher films

Lee Child has written 26 Jack Reacher books and two have been adapted for the big screen, both starring Tom Cruise as the ex army investigator turned drifter. The 2012 movie Jack Reacher saw Reacher help solve the case of five people shot dead in a seemingly random attack and also starred Rosamund Pike as the sniper’s defence attorney. Meanwhile, 2016 follow-up Jack Reacher: Never Go Back followed Reacher as he went on the run with an Army major who had been framed for espionage, as the two revealed a dark conspiracy.

All about Jack Reacher novelist Lee Child

The hugely popular Jack Reacher novels read like a love letter to America, packed as they are with diners and motels that their protagonist visits as he drifts from one small town to another across the US, righting wrongs along the way. However, their creator, Lee Child , was born in Coventry, schooled in Birmingham, studied law in Sheffield and worked in television production in Manchester. It was only after the publication of his first novel Killing Floor , on which the new series Reacher is based, that Lee Child – born James Grant – emigrated to the US.

"America is an exciting place to live and an ideal setting for my series of thrillers," says the 67-year-old. "My stories have been set all over the US – from Montana to Mississippi."

Despite the success of the books, Lee Child announced in 2020 that he would be letting his brother, Andrew Grant , take over authorship of the Reacher series.

"Andrew really is me 15 years ago, still full of energy, still full of ideas," says Lee, who has already co-written three Reacher books with his sibling."And so I think this is the perfect solution."

Edge of Tomorrow 2 Is Now Closer Than Ever Thanks To Tom Cruise's New Deal

  • Tom Cruise's new deal with Warner Bros. could finally make Edge of Tomorrow 2 happen after years of limbo.
  • Cruise's return to Warner Bros. could pave the way for Live Die Repeat and Repeat to move past pre-production.
  • Despite recent sequels with mixed results, Cruise is no longer hesitant to make sequels, making Edge of Tomorrow 2 more likely.

The long-awaited Edge of Tomorrow 2 might now be closer than ever thanks to a new deal between Tom Cruise and Warner Bros. Tom Cruise continues to be one of the most popular and profitable action stars in the film industry, a spot he has maintained since the 1980s, beginning with his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Tony Scott’s Top Gun . Cruise’s popularity continued throughout the 1990s thanks to Mission: Impossible and other projects outside the action genre, as were the comedy-drama Jerry Maguire and the psychological drama Eyes Wide Shut .

The expansion of the Mission: Impossible franchise has kept Cruise active in the action genre throughout the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s, but in 2014, he explored another side of this genre with Edge of Tomorrow . Based on the 2004 novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and directed by Doug Liman, Edge of Tomorrow takes the audience to a future where most of Europe is taken over by an alien race. When Major William Cage (Cruise) is forced to join a landing operation against them, he finds himself in a time loop. Despite Edge of Tomorrow ’s critical and commercial success, a sequel has been lost in limbo for years , but Cruise’s latest studio deal can finally make Edge of Tomorrow 2 happen.

Tom Cruise's Next Long-Delayed Sequel Needs To Be His Priority Over Top Gun 3

While the idea of Top Gun 3 happening is exciting, Tom Cruise should shift his focus to a long-delayed sci-fi sequel that needs him to move forward.

Tom Cruise Has History With Warner Bros. (But Not In A Decade)

Cruise last worked with the studio on the original edge of tomorrow.

Warner Bros. has announced a new deal with Tom Cruise through which they will jointly develop and produce “ original and franchise theatrical films ” starring Cruise, beginning in 2024. This isn’t Tom Cruise’s first time working with Warner Bros., and this deal marks his big return to the studio. Warner Bros. is the studio behind some of Cruise’s biggest movies , such as Risky Business (which is widely considered his breakthrough role), the horror movie Interview with the Vampire (where he played Lestat), Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut , and Magnolia , for which Cruise got an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Cruise’s last project with Warner Bros. was Edge of Tomorrow , in 2014, so his return to the studio could be the push that Edge of Tomorrow 2 needs to finally happen. As mentioned above, Cruise’s new deal with Warner is to make movies both franchise and original, and Edge of Tomorrow being the last big success they had together, it’s a good sign for Edge of Tomorrow 2 .

Since Edge of Tomorrow , Cruise’s career has been mostly focused on expanding other franchises, mostly the Mission: Impossible one, but having him back again with Warner makes the expansion of Edge of Tomorrow a lot more likely .

Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Has Been Kicked Around For Years

All original players have expressed a desire to continue the story.

Despite not having an open ending, Edge of Tomorrow left the door open for a sequel as Cage fulfilled his mission and was thrown back to the past, though with a much brighter future. In 2016, Doug Liman signed on to direct the sequel , and that same year, he said Edge of Tomorrow 2 would “ revolutionize how people make sequels ” as it was “ a sequel that’s a prequel ” (via Collider ).

Tom Cruises deal with Warner Bros. can put an end to the scheduling conflicts that have been delaying Edge of Tomorrow 2...

The following year, the title for the sequel, Live Die Repeat and Repeat , was revealed, and Cruise and Blunt were said to be reprising their roles, but the project began to face a couple of obstacles, mostly the schedules of Blunt, Cruise, and Liman. Tom Cruise’s deal with Warner Bros. can put an end to the scheduling conflicts that have been delaying Edge of Tomorrow 2 , and if Blunt and Liman are still up for it, Live Die Repeat and Repeat could finally be on its way to moving past pre-production hell.

Tom Cruise Is Doing More Sequels Lately

Cruise has had disappointments and great successes with recent sequels.

Unlike a number of other high-profile Hollywood stars, Tom Cruise spent many years of his career largely avoiding franchise filmmaking. He kept the Mission: Impossible movies going, but the idea of him wanting to return for Edge of Tomorrow 2 was exciting because of how rare it was to have him return to a role. However, in recent years, Cruise has shown more of a willingness to make sequels which has had mixed results.

Following his box office success in bringing the character of Jack Reacher to the big screen, it seemed like a perfect franchise to carry on. However, the first attempt at a sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back , was a financial and critical failure that ended those franchise plans and led to the character being rebooted as a television series with Alan Ritchson in the lead role.

While that wasn't a disappointment for Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick proved to exceed nearly everyone's expectations as a long-awaited follow-up movie. Decades after the 1986 original, Top Gun: Maverick saw Cruise return to the role of hotshot pilot Maverick in a film that became the highest-grossing movie of Cruise's career. Not only that, but it was a critical success as well, with it even earning a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.

With Mission: Impossible 8 also on the way , it is clear that Cruise is no longer as hesitant to make sequels. Even with missteps like Jack Reacher 2 , Cruise has a better track record with sequels than most actors. If Edge of Tomorrow 2 does indeed happen, it is safe to say that it is because Cruise sees it as a worthwhile project and not a mindless cash grab.

Tom Cruise has been permanently banned from ever buying a Bugatti

Tom Cruise has been permanently banned from ever buying a Bugatti

Tom cruise was banned from ever purchasing a bugatti again after a 2006 incident with his bugatti veyron..

Dylan Murray

It is not a hot take to say that with fame and wealth comes luxury cars.

It’s quite rare to see a top YouTuber , pro athlete, or A-List movie star without a beautiful, oftentimes costly, vehicle that further emphasizes their status in the hierarchy of fame.

Whether it’s a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or a Rolls-Royce, getting behind the wheel of an extravagant car is one of the biggest benefits of living the lifestyle the rich and the famous.

However, one person you won’t see driving an old favorite car of his is Tom Cruise , who is permanently banned from purchasing a Bugatti, one of the top car brands in the world .

The coveted Bugatti.

The French company, known for having some of the fastest cars on earth, is also known to have strict rules and regulations for its clientele; Bugatti owners not only need to spend $21,000 on yearly maintenance but also must change their tires every 10,000 miles driven.

While this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of the car itself, which ranges anywhere from 3 million to 12.5 million dollars ( per MotorTrend ), these added expenditures can make Bugatti’s a hassle to upkeep.

However, none of these technical requirements are the reason that Cruise was banned from ever purchasing a new Bugatti. Instead, the one-time star of The Last Samurai was banned for a minor flub back in 2006, when he struggled to open the passenger side door of his Bugatti Veyron at the premiere of Mission Impossible 3 .

A bugatti is sadly one car you won't see Cruise driving anytime soon.

That’s right, a slightly awkward moment where he attempted to open a seemingly locked car door nearly 20 years ago resulted in Cruise being banned from purchasing a Bugatti ever since.

While Katie Holmes, Cruise’s wife and passenger on that fateful day in 2006, was soon strutting alongside him on the red carpet, the Jack Reacher lead’s moments of struggle were deemed too embarrassing for the supercar’s brand to ever allow it to happen again.

Don’t feel too bad for Cruise, however, because he’s in good company. For one reason or another, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, Flo Rida, Simon Cowell, and 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button have also been indefinitely banned from purchasing a Bugatti.

Furthermore, while a new Bugatti won’t be joining Cruise’s garage anytime soon, he has made sure to keep it full with other luxury cars, such as BMWs, Chevrolets, Mustangs, and his infamous Bugatti Veyron, over the years.

10 Movies That Should Have Ended The Franchise

7 major hollywood franchises that should stick to animation (not live-action), 8 movies franchises that were supposed to replace the hunger games.

  • The Amazing Spider-Man franchise ended when the character's rights were bought by Disney.
  • The Jack Reacher movie series failed due to poor reception and was overshadowed by a TV show reboot.
  • The Percy Jackson movies received backlash and the franchise was later successfully rebooted as a TV show.

Hollywood movie franchises have been known to give up on the series part-way through, due to box office bombs or other circumstances. Several independent superhero movies ended when the rights to the character were bought by Disney, after struggling to compete with the MCU. Other sequels languished in development hell for years before the people involved with the project finally admitted that the next movie was never happening.

These planned movies' cancellations may have come as a relief or a disappointment to audiences. People will argue that certain unfinished movie franchises are still worth watching , especially when downright terrible reviews were not the reason the franchise was not completed. Some series were never finished because the actors or directors became busy with other projects. However, this is typically symptomatic of the most recent movie not being that great and the people involved losing interest in it as a result.

Some of these franchises are still ongoing, and though many continue to make money at the box office, it's clear where the stories should've stopped.

10 The Amazing Spider-Man

Andrew garfield's spider-man series ended after two movies when the rights were bought by disney..

Spider-Man famously saw multiple reboots within a short period, leading up to the character being incorporated into the MCU. The trilogy starring Tobey Maguire had a strong run until its widely criticized third installment, after which Andrew Garfield starred in two The Amazing Spider-Man movies, which achieved average reviews but objective box office success. Garfield and other actors' performances are the movies' biggest strengths, even if other writing decisions proved to be divisive. Leading up to the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , a sequel was all but confirmed.

However, The Amazing Spider-Man coincided with the growing dominance of the MCU. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was then canceled when Garfield was fired from the role after failing to appear at a significant press event, and Sony finally sold Spider-Man to Disney. Disney managed to add Spider-Man to the MCU in record time, with Tom Holland debuting as Peter Parker in 2016's Captain America: Civil War , only two years after Garfield was last seen in the role.

9 Jack Reacher

The jack reacher movie sequel failed before the franchise was overtaken by a reboot..

On paper, a Jack Reacher movie franchise starring Tom Cruise is a surefire win. It is exactly the kind of role Cruise is known for and there is a substantial amount of source material, with Lee Child's series to comprise 29 books and a short story collection as of October 2024. However, the dramatic failure of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back spelled doom for this adaptation. Director Edward Zwick blamed himself for Jack Reacher's failure , stating he did not understand what audiences wanted from the movie.

The longer gap between the first and second Jack Reacher movies suggests that they were playing each sequel by ear, and Never Go Back's awful reception told them it was hopeless. Meanwhile, Amazon produced a much more popular Reacher TV show, while Cruise returned to working on Top Gun and Mission: Impossible . Although it was never officially canceled, it would appear that Jack Reacher 3 is dead.

8 Journey To The Center Of The Earth

Dwayne johnson's new would-be franchise only featured him in one movie..

Johnson confirmed in 2018 that the movie(s) had been officially canceled, to a middling reaction when the franchise never had much of a dedicated fanbase.

Based on Jules Verne's classic adventure novels, the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise kicked things off with a relatively successful movie of the same name, starring Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. Later, Dwayne Johnson replaced Fraser as the series' headliner, playing Hutcherson's character's stepfather rather than his uncle. While studio executives might have thought Journey 2: The Mysterious Island could be a solid setup for a series of movies starring Johnson, which seemed likely when Journey 2 was also a hit.

Plans were made for Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon and Journey 4 to be filmed back to back. However, Journey 3 was abandoned due to problems with the script and Johnson's busy schedule. Johnson confirmed in 2018 that the movie(s) had been officially canceled, to a middling reaction when the franchise never had much of a dedicated fanbase.

7 National Treasure

National treasure was reimagined as a tv show after a long development — then canceled..

National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets were off-beat but solid action adventure mystery movies for the mid-2000s. With the second movie setting up the page 47 cliffhanger that would serve as the next sequel's plot, National Treasure 3 seemed like a given. However, the movie has now been stuck in development for almost two decades. Meanwhile, Disney+ produced the entertaining but short-lived sequel TV show that was canceled after one season.

In the wake of National Treasure: Edge of History , producer Jerry Bruckheimer suggests that National Treasure 3 could still happen . However, this seems unlikely when lead actor Nicolas Cage has, in no uncertain terms, said that the movie will never exist. Ultimately, if they wanted this movie sequel, they should have fought harder for it in the years following Book of Secrets , before the actors and the industry moved on.

6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The live-action tmnt trilogy ended after the second movie bombed at the box office..

Several Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies were canceled over the years, perhaps illustrating how the franchise would be better served by animation when the premise is inherently cartoonish. Despite this, the poorly-reviewed, live-action adaptation of the comics that came out in 2014 was a box-office hit. However, its sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows , failed at the box office as well as with critics.

Therefore, the third movie in the reboot series was promptly abandoned. Later on, the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem became the best movie of this franchise, at least in the 21st century, earning a Golden Globe nomination for its efforts. However, despite the failure of the previous live-action TMNT movies, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic series is getting an R-rated, live-action adaptation that will come out alongside Mutant Mayhem's sequel.

Hollywood still seems to maintain that live-action is inherently superior, but these big franchises exhibit better storytelling through animation.

5 Percy Jackson & The Olympians

Both percy jackson movies were poorly received, leading to a reboot..

The movie adaptation of Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson & the Olympian novel is widely hated due to the changes made to the source material that made the story unrecognizable to fans. Despite The Lightning Thief's failures, producers forged ahead with a sequel, releasing Sea of Monsters a reasonable three years later. However, Sea of Monsters also buckled under the weight of the inherent story problems the first movie established, and any dreams of seeing the movie franchise to completion were dashed.

A decade later, Percy Jackson came back strong with a TV show reboot that retained the most essential parts of the books. With an age-appropriate cast and Riordan on board as a consultant, the show has a bright future, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 now in the works (at the time of writing). In the case of Percy Jackson , abandoning the unpopular movie franchise was doubtlessly the right choice.

4 Fantastic Four

Fantastic four went through the same reboot cycle as spider-man..

Fantastic Four represents a similar phenomenon in Hollywood as Spider-Man , being the two most famous Marvel properties. With such a famous group of superheroes at their disposal, studio executives and filmmakers desperately wanted to make something out of it. However, while Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is something of a beloved classic and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy is just shy of a complete masterpiece, the 2000s Fantastic Four saw mediocre at best reviews and fizzled out after two movies, despite there being plans for more.

The series' branding was complicated when Chris Evans became infinitely more famous for playing the MCU's Captain America at the beginning of the 2010s. 20th Century then produced a Fantastic Four reboot in 2015 with a new cast in what was ultimately a futile attempt to see some success with Marvel's biggest property before admitting defeat and selling out to Disney. The MCU is now working on adding Fantastic Four to its lineup, with Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby in the lead roles.

Guillermo del Toro & Neil Marshall's demon superhero series has a rocky history.

From the macabre mind of Guillermo del Toro, in partnership with his co-director Neil Marshall, came a bizarre superhero movie about a demon summoned by the Nazis who is rescued by the Allies and grows up to become a hero. Hellboy was never a massive blockbuster, but the first two movies in the franchise were profitable and well-reviewed. However, Hellboy 3 was canceled after a decade in development due to del Toro's busy schedule and problems securing funding.

Symptomatic of Hollywood's oversaturation with reboots, Marshall directed a reboot that came out shortly after it was confirmed that del Toro's sequel was not happening. While David Harbour seemed like the perfect person to take over from Ron Perlman, the Hellboy reboot was a decided failure. In addition to the movie's lackluster writing, the strange premise's time and place may have simply faded into history.

2 Divergent

A decrease in genre interest and a weak story led to divergent's early end..

Despite the largely derivative story, Divergent initially seemed like it would be just as strong of a franchise.

Riding on the coattails of The Hunger Games , one of the most successful blockbuster franchises of the 2010s, Divergent benefited from the popularity of the young adult dystopian genre at the time. Despite the largely derivative story, Divergent initially seemed like it would be just as strong of a franchise. Lead actress Shailene Woodley had already starred in Best Picture nominee The Descendants alongside George Clooney when the series began, while other A-listers took on supporting roles.

However, Divergent's story problems started to overshadow its marketability with the second movie, while there was a downturn in YA dystopias with the end of The Hunger Games . The third Divergent movie received the worst reviews yet, leaving studio executives scrambling to complete the series. While there was talk of wrapping things up with a TV movie, most of the cast left the franchise, and the final movie was eventually scrapped.

Movie franchises including Divergent, The Maze Runner, and Mortal Engines had hopes of being the next Hunger Games but didn't live up to the hype.

1 The Chronicles of Narnia

The silver chair was in development for years before netflix bought narnia..

The movie adaptation of C. S. Lewis' classic fantasy novel The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe proved to be as magical and spectacular as fans could have hoped for, becoming a critical and box office hit. This guaranteed a sequel, but the massive changes to the book made for Prince Caspian did not entirely work out in its favor. While the movie still made a profit, the fact that it did not make as much of a profit as its predecessor was the defining point.

The next movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader , was already dealing with one of the more difficult Narnia books to adapt and bombed at the box office. Despite this, The Silver Chair was in development for years before Netflix bought the rights to the series, with Joe Johnston slated to direct and Millie Bobby Brown being offered the lead role. The Chronicles of Narnia has a complicated history in Hollywood, making some wonder if the movie franchise should have been canceled just to make another one.

Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (2012)

Quotes

Jack Reacher : What I mean is, the cheapest woman tends to be the one you pay for.

Sandy : [stands up, angrily]  I am *not* a hooker!

Jack Reacher : Well, a hooker would get the joke.

Jeb : [enters with his four buddies]  What's this?

Sandy : He called me a whore.

Jeb : Is that true?

Jack Reacher : Well, nobody said whore. She inferred hooker, but I meant slut.

Punk : Hey. That's our sister.

Jack Reacher : Is she a good kisser?

Jeb : Hey. Outside.

Jack Reacher : Pay your check first.

Jeb : I'll pay later.

Jack Reacher : You won't be able to.

Jeb : You think?

Jack Reacher : All the time. You should try it.

Jeb : It's a great joke, but I'm gonna beat your ass. Do you want to do that here or outside?

Jack Reacher : Outside.

[gets up]

Jeb : Stay here, Sandy.

Sandy : I don't mind the sight of blood.

Jack Reacher : [walks by Sandy]  When it means you're not pregnant, anyway.

Jack Reacher : You think I'm a hero? I am not a hero. I'm a drifter with nothing to lose. Now you killed that girl to put me in a frame. I mean to beat you to death and drink your blood from a boot. Now, this is how it's gonna work. You're gonna give me the address and I'll be along when I am damn good and ready. If she doesn't answer the phone when I call this number, if I even think you've hurt her, I disappear. And if you're smart, that scares you, because I'm in your blind spot and I have nothing better to do.

Jack Reacher : There are four types of people who join the military. For some, it's a family trade. Others are patriots, eager to serve. Next, you have those who just need a job. Than there's the kind who want a legal means of killing other people.

Jack Reacher : There are three things cops never do. They don't vote Democrat, they don't drive Cadillacs, and they never use personal vehicles.

Jack Reacher : Look out the window.

Helen : No, I've work to do.

Jack Reacher : Just humor me.

Helen : And you need to leave.

Jack Reacher : Okay.

[Grabs Helen's arm and starts to pull her to the window]

Helen : Let, let go of me.

Jack Reacher : Would you tell me what you see?

Helen : I see the same... things I see every day.

Jack Reacher : Well, imagine you've never seen it. Imagine you've spent your whole life in other parts of the world being told every day you're defending freedom. And finally you decide you've had enough. Time to see what you've given up your whole life for. Maybe get some of that freedom for yourself. Look at the people. Now tell me which ones are free. Free from debt. Anxiety. Stress. Fear. Failure. Indignity. Betrayal. How many wish that they were born knowing what they know now? Ask yourself how many would do things the same way over again? And how many would live their lives like me.

Sandy : [sits down at Reacher's table]  Mind if I share your table?

[Jack gives a nod]

Sandy : I'm Sandy.

Jack Reacher : So was I. Last week. On a beach, in Florida.

Sandy : What's your name?

Jack Reacher : Jimmie Reese.

Sandy : You don't look like a Jimmie.

Jack Reacher : What do I look like?

Sandy : I don't know. But not a Jimmie. So you're new in town?

Jack Reacher : Usually.

Sandy : It's kind of loud in here. Do you wanna, maybe, go someplace quieter? I have a car.

Jack Reacher : You're old enough to drive?

Sandy : I'm old enough to do a lot of things.

Jack Reacher : I'm on a budget, Sandy.

Sandy : [perplexed]  What?

Jack Reacher : I can't afford you.

Sandy : I'm not a hooker.

Jack Reacher : Oh, then I *really* can't afford you.

Jack Reacher : Got a car?

Punk : It's outside.

Jack Reacher : Keys.

Punk : My hand, man. They're in my pock... Okay, okay.

[gives a key to Jack]

Jack Reacher : Now look at your friends. Now look at my face. Do you *ever* want to see me again?

Punk : No way.

Jack Reacher : Am I stealing your car?

Punk : Use it as long as you like.

Jack Reacher : You're very kind.

Gary : I'm gonna need to see some I.D.

Jack Reacher : Go get Sandy.

Gary : Well, I need to see something.

Jack Reacher : How about the inside of an ambulance?

Helen : So why are you so hard to find?

Jack Reacher : I'm impossible to find.

Helen : Why is that?

Jack Reacher : Well, you could say it started out as an exercise and became an addiction.

Helen : Are you on the run?

Jack Reacher : [beat]  My bus is leaving. You better hurry, counsellor.

Helen : How do you know James Barr?

Jack Reacher : Why are you representing him?

Helen : I'm a lawyer.

Jack Reacher : So is a public defender, with just as much a chance as clearing Barr.

Helen : I am not trying to clear him, I am just trying to keep him off death row.

Jack Reacher : By proving he's insane?

Helen : Well, that's one option.

[from trailer]

Jack Reacher : You think I'm a hero? I am not a hero. And if you're smart, that scares you. Because I have nothing to lose.

Helen : What about the truth? What about getting the guys who really did this? What about bringing him to justice?

Jack Reacher : I just did.

Jack Reacher : I was born in October. When I get to my birthday, I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Helen : Were you really going to shoot him?

Jack Reacher : I knew I wouldn't have to. One look at this guy and you know he'll do anything to survive. One look at me and you know I'm not bluffing.

Sandy : Am I in trouble?

Jack Reacher : Not if you lend me your car.

Sandy : I don't have a car.

Jack Reacher : Well, sure you do. It's outside. I'm guessing you're the Camaro. That whimsy little pickup has Gary written all over it. Keys?

Sandy : I can't. It's Jeb's car!

Jack Reacher : Well, won't he be surprised when I drive it home for him.

Sandy : Who are you, mister? Really?

Jack Reacher : [Sandy gives him a key]  I'm just a guy who wants to be left alone.

Sandy : [Sandy, Jeb and four other guys all surround Reacher outside a bar]

[to Reacher]

Sandy : You still think you're funny now, creep?

Jeb : Shut your mouth, Sandy! No one is talking to you!

Jack Reacher : It's your last chance to walk away.

Jeb : [chuckles]  Are you kidding? It's five against one.

Jack Reacher : [shakes his head]  It's *three* against one.

Jeb : [perplexed]  *How* do you figure?

Jack Reacher : Well, once I take out the leader, which is you, I'll have to contend with one or two enthusiastic wingmen. The last two guys, they always run.

Jeb : Oh, you, uh, you've done this before?

Jack Reacher : [reluctantly nods]  It's getting late.

[Jeb moves in]

Jack Reacher : Remember, you wanted this.

[Jeb smiles and swings at Reacher, who ducks and elbows Jeb in the forehead, who falls to the ground]

Jack Reacher : It's okay.

[helps Jeb up]

Jack Reacher : Get up.

[kicks Jeb in the groin from behind, Jeb groans and Reacher pushes him aside with his foot. The other four move in closer]

Jack Reacher : Okay, let me know who's who. Let's get this done.

[Reacher easily takes down the other four, with him holding the last guy's foot under his arm. Two of the guys get up and both stare at Reacher with fear]

Jack Reacher : Really?

[kicks the last guy in the chest, who screams as he falls to the ground. The two guys run away as the cops come. Sandy runs away as well]

Cop : [points his gun at Reacher]  On the ground.

Jack Reacher : That's a pretty impressive response time, fellas.

Cop : Do it!

[Reacher reluctantly gets down on the ground, next to a groaning Jeb]

Cop : Hands behind your back.

Jack Reacher : [to Jeb]  Who hired you?

Emerson : What does an Army cop do mostly?

Jack Reacher : What you do, with one minor difference: every suspect was a trained killer.

Jack Reacher : And sticking it to your father because...

Helen : No. Not my father. The Office of the District Attorney.

Jack Reacher : ...because the Office of the District Attorney never bought you a pony.

Helen : D.A. Rodin's never lost a capitol case. You know why?

Jack Reacher : Impeccable tailoring.

Helen : He never picks a fight he can't win.

Jack Reacher : Worked for the Red Baron.

Helen : Every murder suspect in this town is given a choice: confess or face death. Against a D.A. who never loses. My firm has reason to believe more than one innocent man has gone down without a fight.

Jack Reacher : Oh, I get it. You're an idealist.

Helen : No, I'm a pacifist.

Jack Reacher : It's a noble crusade. But this is not the fight, trust me. James Barr's guilty.

Helen : You haven't even seen the evidence.

Jack Reacher : With a name like yours, you're gonna feel right at home.

The Zec : Prison? In America? A retirement home. If I go to prison at all.

Jack Reacher : You think you're gonna walk?

The Zec : You are a homeless drifter wanted for murder. Meanwhile, I am an old man in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thanks to you, who is left to say otherwise? Who?

Jack Reacher : [after killing Charlie in a brutal hand-to-hand fight, Reacher confronts Emerson, who is using Helen as a human shield]  I know you're in there, Emerson. It was staring me right in the face. The one piece that just didn't fit. The quarter. Nobody would have thought to dump that meter. Not even me.

[Emerson fires at Reacher, but Reacher manages to shoot Emerson in the head, killing him]

Cash : This the lady?

Jack Reacher : Helen Rodin, Martin Cash.

Cash : A pleasure. You look like hell there, Army.

Jack Reacher : You asked if I was afraid I'd end up like Barr. I'm not. I'm afraid I'll end up like this guy.

Cash : There's a lot of dead bodies out here. So let's get to it.

Jack Reacher : We should probably go.

Helen : Wait. That's it? It's just over?

Jack Reacher : You'll be all right, counselor.

Helen : No. What if I need you? How will I find you?

Jack Reacher : You don't need me. Not anymore.

Cash : Get her number. Let's go!

The Zec : We'll see which one of us goes to prison.

Jack Reacher : My bet? Neither one.

[shoots the Zec in cold blood]

Jack Reacher : Who is he?

Helen : That's John Doe Number Two. The man on the grassy knoll. The thing under the bed. They call him the Zec.

Helen : You want me to wait?

Jack Reacher : No, I'll meet you back at the office later.

Helen : How will you get there?

Jack Reacher : I'll hitch a ride.

Jack Reacher : You understand you're not just asking me to look at the evidence. You're asking me to look at a cold-blooded killer. A man I know to be guilty. A man you want to keep off death row. You're asking me to look at him objectively.

Helen : Yes, that is what I'm asking.

Jack Reacher : I'll do it. On one condition.

Helen : Name it.

Jack Reacher : You have to look at the victims objectively.

Reacher : Why do you think he paid for parking?

Emerson : Pardon?

Reacher : He's about to fire six shots into a crowd of strangers... and he's worried about the meter maid?

Emerson : Simple loony won't do it for you?

Reacher : I like to have at least one alternate theory.

Emerson : Habit. Muscle memory. I don't think he knew he was doing it.

Reacher : Like I said, it's damn fine work.

Emerson : Hey, Army. What's the serial number on the rifle?

Reacher : What's the date on the quarter?

[beat]

Reacher : 1968. Forest for the trees, Detective. Forest for the trees.

Helen : You said on the phone you wanted to submit your findings.

Reacher : James Barr was a sniper. Not the best, not the worst. But he trained non-stop for two years. What does training like that do?

Helen : What does any training do? Skills become reflex. Muscle memory. You do without thinking.

Reacher : It also makes people who aren't necessarily smart seem smart by beating some tactical awareness into them. Now, 99% of the evidence your father has against Barr didn't exist in Baghdad; not because Barr was smart, but because he was trained. See, from that garage, the shooter had the sun in his eyes. Targets moving left and right. It's difficult conditions for any sniper.

Helen : But Baghdad -- you said Barr was in a parking garage then.

Reacher : Because in Baghdad, the sun's behind him. Targets coming straight ahead, single file. Ideal conditions for even an average shooter... and the exact same conditions he would've had up on that highway bridge. Up there, he would never even have to get out of the van. No parking meter. No camera. No trace evidence left behind. And his escape is assured. Now I'm not saying he couldn't have killed those people at the river, but he wouldn't have. Not that way.

Helen : So you're saying he's crazy.

Reacher : No.

Helen : Well, what exactly are you saying?

Reacher : Any single piece of evidence I'd buy. But all of it? Fibers, fingerprints, stray brass, I mean... and who the hell pays for parking? Sane or crazy, that just doesn't make sense.

Helen : Okay. So Barr, he wanted to get caught and he wanted you to catch him.

Reacher : That would not explain how Barr, an average shooter firing in poor conditions, never missed.

Helen : He did miss. He did.

Reacher : A pristine bullet, conveniently trapped by a liquid backstop. The same bullet that tied Barr's gun to the killings. And arguably the prosecution's most important piece of evidence. If Barr wanted to get caught, he didn't miss. If he wanted to get away with it, he likely would have and if he wanted to get caught, Barr was incapable of such perfection.

Helen : Or maybe he just got lucky, six shots out of six.

Reacher : That's what I was willing to accept; then those guys took a run at me. Whoever sent them made a mistake.

Helen : It was just a bar fight.

Reacher : Maybe. Or maybe somebody got nervous; tried to run me off. Or put me in a coma, right next to their patsy.

Helen : Patsy?

Reacher : It was such a great crime scene. Nobody ever stopped to think it might be too great. Not Emerson. Not your father. Not even Barr's own defense attorney. But Barr knew I would, no matter how much I wanted it to be true. That's why he asked for me.

Helen : Wait. Are you suggesting-- ?

Reacher : James Barr is innocent.

[Reacher is visited in jail by Helen and Emerson after the bar fight; he is facing away from them]

Jack Reacher : Hello, Helen.

Helen : Am I wearing too much perfume?

Jack Reacher : Breathing too sternly. Detective Emerson. Somebody dead?

Emerson : And if someone is?

Jack Reacher : Then they died of shame, because I was being gentle.

Emerson : I'm starting to understand why you move around a lot, Reacher.

Jack Reacher : So no one's dead.

Emerson : One guy likely won't ever walk right again.

Jack Reacher : You want to charge me.

Emerson : Very much.

Jack Reacher : But no one's pressing.

Emerson : Sadly, no.

Jack Reacher : [finally looks over at them]  Am I free to go?

[Emerson nods and then turns to leave]

Jack Reacher : Hey, Emerson!

[Emerson turns back around]

Jack Reacher : 4862681.

Emerson : What's that?

Jack Reacher : It's the serial number on Barr's rifle.

[Emerson leaves, Helen steps to the bars]

Helen : [quietly furious]  You're working for me, do you understand that? So everything you do is a reflection on my firm. On me.

Jack Reacher : I was set up.

Helen : You're talking to a lawyer.

Jack Reacher : There was this girl. She came onto me. Picked a fight.

Helen : Which never happens in a bar.

Jack Reacher : She was thrown when I told her my name.

Helen : She was expecting "Mike Tyson"?

Jack Reacher : She wasn't expecting Jimmie Reese.

Jack Reacher : Yankees second baseman.

Helen : Why did you say you were a Yankees second baseman?

Jack Reacher : I always use Yankees second basemen. I didn't say I was a Yankees second baseman, I just said --

[stops, realizing he's getting nowhere]

Jack Reacher : Look, the point is, she was expecting to hear Jack Reacher. She knew who I was. And the cops were rolling before the fight even started. And those five guys are her brothers? Come on. Somebody sent those boys to put me down.

Jack Reacher : I need some sleep. You too.

Helen : You don't really think I'm gonna...

[Helen answers her phone while her father and Emerson are in the room]

Helen : This is Helen.

Jack Reacher : [on the other end]  I'm guessing the police are there?

Helen : [quietly angry]  Yep.

Jack Reacher : By your response, I'm guessing I have about 30 seconds before you hand them the phone.

Helen : If that.

Jack Reacher : If you believe someone could frame Barr, you have to believe they could do the same to me.

Helen : I suppose that's possible.

Jack Reacher : She was a sweet kid, Helen. And they killed her because of me. They want me to run. But I won't. I'm gonna finish this.

Helen : No, that's not a good idea.

Jack Reacher : Listen, two things. One, I... I stole your car.

[Helen makes a "Seriously?" face]

Jack Reacher : If you want to end this, just hang up the phone and report it missing. And I'll understand.

Helen : And anything else?

Jack Reacher : I thought I'd be pushing it if I mentioned this earlier. Now I guess all bets are off. You need to watch what you say to Emerson and your father. I think one of them might be in on it.

[Emerson and Helen's father both now realize Helen's been on the phone for a while]

Helen : [trying to end the call]  All right. Thanks for calling. I have to go.

Jack Reacher : Wait. I've been followed from day one. Only three people knew I was here. Emerson, your father and you. You need to ask yourself, "Who has the most to lose if we clear Barr?" Who tried to warn you off me? Of course, I could be wrong. If you think I am, just hand over the phone. There's no sense in getting any deeper.

[Reacher notices that Cash has one eye closed]

Jack Reacher : What's wrong with your eye?

Cash : I'm saving my night vision.

[Reacher arrives at the gun range that Barr and Jeb would use and walks in. He looks at the targets hung up on the wall with almost precision accuracy]

Jack Reacher : [to the man behind the counter]  You got some fine shooters here.

Cash : Fine as frog's hair. Rarer, too. Because most of them fellas out there can't shoot worth a damn. You ask them to put three rounds in the black, well... they'll suck it.

Jack Reacher : I'm looking for the owner.

Cash : That'd be me. Martin Cash.

Jack Reacher : [sticks his hand out to shake]  Aaron Ward.

Cash : What can I do for you, Mr. Ward?

[stops, not sure he's heard correctly]

Cash : Ward?

Jack Reacher : Yeah, I'm looking for a friend of mine. We served in Iraq. The guy just dropped off the grid, you know?

Cash : It happens. Yep.

Jack Reacher : Yeah. Anyway, he was a shooter. Last I heard, he lived around here somewhere and I...

Cash : When did he get out of the Army?

Jack Reacher : [smiles]  Well, I didn't say the Army.

Cash : Well, you said you served with him. You're no jarhead. Man on a flying horse could see that.

Jack Reacher : Well, my father was in the Corps, if that helps.

Cash : Well, that makes you half-human anyway. Your friend got a name?

Jack Reacher : James Barr.

Cash : James Barr.

[feigns innocence]

Cash : Never heard of him.

Jack Reacher : I think you have. I think you've been dreading the moment some cop comes in here asking after him. Because it's for sure some soccer mom around here is more worried about your range than the swimming pool in her backyard or the drain cleaner under her sink. Wouldn't matter to her if Barr did his killings 100 miles away, only that he came here to rehearse. She'd have a case to shut you down and nothing better to do.

Cash : What do you want?

Jack Reacher : I want to know who Barr's friends were.

[in response, Cash finishes assembling a weapon pointedly]

Cash : [sternly]  Those boys out there, they're mighty touchy when it comes to their Constitutional rights. Suppose I tell them a cop is in here asking after my members?

Jack Reacher : I'm not a cop.

Cash : What are you?

Jack Reacher : I work for Barr's attorney. We have reason to believe he's innocent.

Cash : The hell you say.

Jack Reacher : Be that as it may, I'm the only one who's bothered to track him this far. You help me out and I'll be in your debt.

Cash : And if I don't?

Jack Reacher : [heading towards the door]  Maybe you can coach soccer.

Cash : You put three in the center and maybe we'll talk.

Jack Reacher : Can I have a few to warm up?

[in addition to the three bullets he's already pulled out, Cash adds one single bullet - Reacher's sole mulligan]

Dakota Fanning Reveals Unconventional Birthday Gift Tom Cruise Has Given Her Every Year Since She Was 12

Dakota fanning shared that former costar tom cruise sends her a pair of shoes for her birthday every year, something he's done for the 30-year-old since she turned 12..

Tom Cruise  takes the mission of giving a birthday gift very seriously.

In fact, the  Top Gun  star has made sure that former costar  Dakota Fanning  gets an extra special present from him every year, a tradition that started when he played her dad in 2005's  War of the Worlds .

"I turned 11 on  War of the Worlds  when we worked together," she explained on  The Kelly Clarkson Show  June 5 , "and he gave me my first cellphone for that birthday. It was a Motorola Razr."

The 30-year-old joked that while she "didn't have anyone to call" at the time, she had wanted a Razr "so bad."

"I must have been talking about it a lot," she laughed, "because that's what he got me. It was such a great memory."

But Tom's presents didn't stop there, as the 61-year-old has continued sending her birthday gifts.

"He always sends me the same thing every year, after the cellphone," she said. "I loved shoes when I was little and I started to be able to fit into really small adult shoes when I was on the  War of the Worlds press tour, so I was very excited about them.
