U.S. STADIUM DATES 2024

Tickets On Sale Friday, October 6 at 10am Local Time

Pre-sales and additional information at foofighters.com, support acts to include pretenders, the hives, mammoth wvh, amyl and the sniffers, alex g and l7, “grohl and his counterparts—chris shiflett, nate mendel, pat smear, rami jaffee and newly inked drummer josh freese—always come wholly alive when they are in concert” — chicago sun-times.

With their universally acclaimed 11th album But Here We Are stacking up Best of 2023 So Far accolades and singles “Rescued” and “Under You” cementing the band’s tally of more #1s than any other artist at Rock and Alternative Radio, Foo Fighters have confirmed a massive run of summer 2024 U.S. Stadium dates. The newly announced leg of the Everything or Nothing at All Tour will kick off with the band’s return to New York’s Citi Field for the first time since 2015 for a July 17 and 19 doubleheader and will see Foo Fighters host 12 rock ’n’ roll marathons at 10 stadiums, including a pair of shows August  9 and 11 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

General on sale for tickets begins Friday, October 6 at 10am local time. For pre-sales and further information, please visit foofighters.com .

Foo Fighters’ 2024 stadium dates will mark the band’s biggest U.S. headline shows since the June 2 release of But Here We Are , which has landed on the mid-year best of lists of Alternative Press, Consequence, Entertainment Weekly, The Los Angeles Times, Loudwire and Uproxx among others, while generating some of the most positive critical notes in Foo Fighters history, including:

“Tragedy isn’t necessary to produce transcendent music. But here, it did.” — THE ATLANTIC

“★★★★★ Stunning … a standout, and at times stunning, piece of work … quite possibly their best and most meaningful album.” – GOLDMINE

“Explosive, emotional and inspired… a back-to-basics immediacy and intensity… The undercurrent holding all of ‘But Here We Are’ together is not an idea so much as raw emotion. Grohl’s melodies are as soaring and anthemic as they’ve sounded in years; his vocals are freshly impassioned and heartfelt.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES

“A fantastic record full of riffs and reflection… so catchy and vibrant, so brimming with wild-eyed wonder… Grohl clearly understands that we honor departed loved ones by building new joys we wish they were around to share.” – NPR

“Dave Grohl gives himself over to arena-sized grief, reckoning, and resolve on the band’s most propulsive and purposeful music of the last two decades… offering earnest hope, fond reminiscence, and skyscraping choruses” — PITCHFORK

“One of the strongest albums of the band’s career… reckoning with the conundrums of human existence through the sheer power of music” — SPIN

“Memorable and meaningful” — USA TODAY

“Aching directness and wounded sweetness make a potent combination here… But Here We Are pulses with the sense that the future happened too quickly, and we’re all having to navigate situations and handle emotions we thought we’d get to much later in life. These songs chart the push through denial into the acceptance of the reality of death and the lifetime journey of bereavement.” — VULTUR

Support on the various dates will come from Pretenders, The Hives, Mammoth WVH, Amyl and The Sniffers, Alex G and L7. See below for a full list of dates and details.

What Is The Foo Fighters Presale Code?

Fans of Foo Fighters can obtain presale tickets through a number of different presale options. Once you’ve selected your preferred tour date be sure to bookmark it for easier access on the day of the presale!

Official Platinum Presale

The Official Platinum presale starts on  Tuesday, December 12th at 10am local time . No presale code is necessary to purchase these  Foo Fighters tickets  but you should expect higher than average prices. Learn more about Official Platinum tickets below.

Citi® Cardmember Presale

A Citi® Cardmember presale begins  Tuesday, December 12th at 10am local time . You will need to own a Citi card to unlock this presale. After you’ve chosen a  tour date for Foo Fighters , you will then use the first 6 digits of your Citi credit card or Citibank Debit Card as the presale code.

Artist Presale

The Foo Fighters artist presale opens on Tuesday, December 12th at 10am local time . Once you’ve decided which of the new tour dates you’ll be attending, all you’ll need to do to access presale tickets is enter the following presale code: GLASS .

Live Nation Presale

A Live Nation presale takes place  Wednesday, December 13th at 10am local time . To access the promoter presale,  pick a Foo Fighters tour date  and then use the following presale code to access the presale tickets:  CREW .

What Are Those Official Platinum Tickets?

If you see expensive tickets that are not VIP packages, those are official platinum tickets. These tickets are offered well over standard ticket prices, which is unfair to fans. The Event Organizer(s) have priced these tickets according to their market value (aka dynamic pricing). In other words, ticket pricing can go up or down and usually goes up.

Official platinum tickets do not include VIP packages. The only positive thing about them is that they make buying floor or front-row tickets to a high-demand concert easy if you’re willing to shed the extra cash. They can be bought during a presale without a presale code (which doesn’t always apply to Verified Fan/Weverse presales). Availability and pricing for official platinum tickets are subject to change based on demand.

Pro Tips When Buying Your Tickets

First, on the day of the presale or general onsale (whichever you prefer), login to your Ticketmaster account ( go to my account or sign in located on the upper right corner of the page ) at least 15 minutes ahead of the sale time. If you don’t have one,  create one now .

Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

What To Do If Tickets Are Sold Out?

If tickets sell out, your other option is to buy them via online resellers like VividSeats or StubHub. When all else fails, we prefer these resell options because both offer a 100% Guarantee. You can also purchase resell tickets through Ticketmaster’s resell program. Just search for the concert or event you want to attend , and see if they have any resell tickets available. We recommend you compare the three options and find out which works best for you.

Alternatively, you can hit it old school style and show up at the concert when the box office opens and wish upon a star that they release more tickets, or hopefully, another concert-goer has an extra ticket to sell at face-value or even giveaway for free. Trust, this happens more often than not! We’ve given away many tickets to sold-out shows simply because our +1 couldn’t make it.

Also, more standard tickets are often released via Ticketmaster 1-3 days leading up to the show date. We’ve seen it with Beyonce , Taylor Swift , Arctic Monkeys and many more! It’s a secret gatekeeped by many, but if you’re reading this, now you know! So be sure to set your calendar notifications!

[UPDATE 4/11/23]:  Foo Fighters have added a number of new headlining shows to their 2023 tour schedule. The Dave Grohl -fronted band’s upcoming slate of festival plays and amphitheater dates will mark its first official performances since the untimely death of drummer  Taylor Hawkins in March of last year.

Newly added headlining shows include August dates in Spokane, WA (8/4), Salt Lake City, UT (8/8), and Stateline, NV (8/10) featuring support from  The Breeders . Foo Fighters have also added a September 19th show in Virginia Beach, VA, an October 3rd show in Phoenix, AZ, and an October 5th date in El Paso, TX.

Even as the band’s 2023 tour schedule continues to fill up, it remains unclear who will man the drum kit when Foo Fighters finally take the stage. Speculation swirled in fan communities in late March when an article by the U.K.’s The Sun cited an “insider” who claimed that Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam) and Atom Willard (Angels & Airwaves) were the front-runners for the gig. In a later post, however, Cameron refuted the claim: “FYI the internet rumors are false,” he said. “I haven’t joined the Foos.”

The only Foo Fighters performances since the March 2022 death of Hawkins came as part of a pair of star-studded tribute shows in the drummer’s honor in London  and  L.A. in late 2022. Stand-in drummers for the Foos’ abbreviated sets at those shows included Taylor’s son, Shane Hawkins , Travis Barker (Blink 182), Josh Freese , Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine), Rufus Taylor (The Darkness), Nandi Bushell , and more.

[2/28/23]: Foo Fighters have announced their first headlining shows since the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.

The band recently vowed to continue on in a year-end statement to fans, and since then, Foo Fighters have been named as a headliner for a number of major festivals including Bonnaroo , Boston Calling Music Festival , Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival , Germany’s Rock Am Ring , Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival , Sea.Hear.Now , and more. The band has now added some headlining shows to its 2023 tour schedule, which will be the group’s first performances since Taylor Hawkins’s death except for the two star-studded tribute shows in his honor in London and L.A. No announcement has been made as to who will fill in for the late drummer.

The newly announced tour dates include shows at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, NH (5/24), Walmart AMP in Rogers, AR (6/14), and Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, AL (6/16).

A ticket presale for the newly announced Foo Fighters 2023 tour dates begins today, Tuesday, February 28th at 12 p.m. ET with code: F2xZ3r7F. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 3rd at 10 a.m. local venue time. For a full list of Foo Fighters tour dates and ticketing details, visit the band’s website .

In other Foo Fighters news, a colorful new Foo Fighters pinball machine was announced by Stern . Dave Grohl also recently made headlines barbecuing for about 450 homeless L.A. residents during a 16-hour volunteer shift at The Hope Mission shelter. The 54-year-old rock star fraternized with other volunteers, staff members, and guests living at the shelter and prepared a delicious spread of ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, and side dishes including cabbage, coleslaw, beans, and mac and cheese.

The album is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship, and family. But Here We Are was preceded by four amazingly received singles. The four songs demonstrated dimensions of sound and emotion that show the LP’s grand range and depth. It’s a stark and moving exploration of life and loss. It is a brutally honest reaction to the recent events affecting the group.

It’s a masterpiece born out of grief and a total triumph for the band.

The upcoming tour is named after the song “Nothing At All,” the sixth track on But Here We Are . The song is about the tragic loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Naming the tour after the song serves as yet another touching tribute to the late musician.

Since the album’s release, the band has headlined a number of festivals, performing some tracks from the LP. Fans of the album are in luck now, though. The Everything or Nothing At All Tour will feature tons of new material from But Here We Are .

Foo Fighters Concert Presale starts Thursday, October 5, 2024. Get the presale code HERE.

Foo Fighters: Their 43 Best Songs

As Dave Grohl himself screamed, he’s the “King of Second Chances.” Few artists have had as great of a second act as he has.

He came to fame as the beloved powerhouse drummer of Nirvana, but after the band dissolved, who could have predicted that he’d become one of the most enduring singer/songwriters in rock music for decades to come? He’s led the Foo Fighters for a quarter-century, through numerous lineups and pop culture changes; they remain one of the most popular rock bands in America.

Foo Fighters started out as a one man band: Dave Grohl plays all the instruments on the band’s 1995 self-titled debut (other than “X-Static,” which featured guitar from Greg Dulli from the Afghan Whigs). But by the time the album came out, he put a band together: former Germs guitarist Pat Smear (who had been a touring member of Nirvana), and former Sunny Day Real Estate members Nate Mendel on bass and William Goldsmith on drums. The lineup has changed and grown over the decades but they’ve been one of rock’s most reliable acts, when it comes to putting out great albums with radio hits, and playing huge concerts.

From raging punk and metal-inspired rock tunes to beautiful ballads, here are our 43 favorite Foo Fighters jams.

RELATED: Foo Fighters: 17 Gifts Ideas That Won’t Get The Best Of You

43. “shame shame” from ‘medicine at midnight’ (2021).

In interviews, Dave Grohl compared 'Medicine at Midnight' to David Bowie's 'Let's Dance.' The album definitely had some solid jams - but it doesn't hold up to their catalog quite as well as 'Let's Dance' did to Bowie's. Still, "Shame, Shame" is a song that will always sound good in concert.

42. The Dee Gees – “You Should Be Dancing” from ‘Hail Satin’ (2021)

The Dee Gees were the Foo Fighters, of course, and this EP saw them covering songs from the Brothers Gibb catalog (from The Bee Gees or Andy Gibb). The band sounded like they had a blast here (and the whole EP is pretty fun).

41. “T-Shirt” – ‘Concrete And Gold’ (2017)

The song starts out as a solo Dave Grohl acoustic folk tune before erupting into a Queen-level production -- even as he sings, “I don’t want to be Queen” -- with one of the many great Foo Fighters guitar riffs. And then it goes back to folk. It does all of this in one minute and twenty-three seconds. It also has one of Grohl’s sage bits of advice: “There's one thing I have learned/If it gets much better/It's going to get worse.” In other words: try to make peace with where you are in life.

40. “Something From Nothing” – ‘Sonic Highways’ (2014)

Rick Neilsen of Cheap Trick guesting on guitar (as if the three-guitar band need any more six-stringers), Rami Jaffe’s funk keyboards and the riff from Dio’s “Holy Diver” make this song the easy highlight of the uneven ‘Sonic Highways’ album.

39. “Down In The Park” – ‘Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by the X-Files’ (1996)

It’s no surprise that a band named after flying saucers would have an affinity for ‘90s UFO/conspiracy theory-obsessed sci-fi drama ‘The X-Files.’ The Foo Fighters’ cover of the 1979 song by Tubeway Army (Gary Numan’s former band) may have been a surprising choice, but it worked incredibly well. It’s one of the best of the Foos many covers.

38. “Bridges Burning” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

The song starts abrasively with a distorted guitar riff, and then another one, before the band kicks in and Grohl screams, “These are my famous last woooooords!!!” Happily, that wasn’t true -- Dave Grohl has written and sung many more tunes in the past decade. “Bridges Burning” kicked off one of the band’s best albums, one they haven’t topped since. But note that Grohl refers to himself in the song as the “King of Second Chances,” and it’s kind of true: who thought that Nirvana’s drummer would go on to be one of the biggest rock stars of the next three decades. So you’d be foolish to think that he doesn’t have more classic LPs in him.

37. “Statues” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

Dave Grohl has always had an indie-punk ethic, but happily he grew out of the orthodoxy of that scene. “Statues” is a lovely piano ballad (with Grohl on piano) that would not sound out of place between songs by Cat Stevens and Carly Simon on a ‘70s hit station.

36. “Sunday Rain” – ‘Concrete And Gold’ (2017)

Only two people have sung lead vocals on Foo Fighters albums: Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins. The latter of takes the mic here for his best vocal performance. And only four people have sat behind the drum kit: Grohl, Hawkins, William Goldsmith and… Paul McCartney. That’s right: the band with two great drummers gets Paul freakin’ McCartney into the studio and they put him on the drum kit. It works though. Funny enough, “Sunday Rain” sounds like it could be a Wings outtake.

35. “Wheels” – ‘Greatest Hits’ (2009)

If Tom Petty asked Dave Grohl to write a song for the Heartbreakers, what would it have sounded like? Probably “Wheels.” And it would have been great to hear Tom sing this one.

34. “Summer’s End” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

The Foo Fighters have had a crazy amount of hit singles, but some of their greatest songs are hidden towards the end of their albums. “Summer’s End” is one of them, and it should have been a hit. LIsten to it once, and try to get it out of your head.

33. “Friend Of A Friend” – ‘In Your Honor’ (2005)

A solo acoustic song that Dave Grohl wrote when he was in Nirvana, possibly about Kurt Cobain. An earlier version of this song was included on a collection of Grohl tunes under the name “Late!” which was released on a small indie label as a limited-edition cassette-only release back in 1992. It’s been bootlegged often, but has never had a wide release; it also featured “Color Pictures Of A Marigold,” which Grohl re-recorded with Krist Novolselic as “Marigold,” and was released as the B-side to Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” More than a decade after Cobain’s death, “Friend Of A Friend” stands as a moving tribute.

32. “Long Road To Ruin” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

Turn down the guitars a bit, and this is another jam that could have been a hit on AM radio in the ‘70s. Which seems to have inspired the song’s very ‘70s looking video.

31. “Rescued” from ‘But Here We Are’ (2023)

The lead track from a very emotional album: this was the first Foo Fighters record following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. It was also their first album since Dave Grohl's mom, Virginia, died. So it was a pretty emotionally heavy album and "Rescued" was the highlight.

30. “Miracle” – ‘In Your Honor’ (2005)

One of Dave Grohl’s loveliest songs, this one gets an assist from his future Them Crooked Vultures bandmate, John Paul Jones, on piano.

29. “Exhausted” – ‘Foo Fighters’ (1995)

In some ways, it’s the first Foo Fighters song: it’s probably the first one that many fans heard. It premiered on one of Pearl Jam’s pirate radio broadcasts. In the Foo Fighters’ early days, this often closed the band’s live sets.

28. “What If I Do?” – ‘In Your Honor’ (2005)

Grohl said of the song, “It's an ode to North Carolina. I lived there from 1991 to 2002, on the coast where there were these beautiful sand dunes. It's [about] finding yourself by disappearing.”

27. “Big Me” – ‘Foo Fighters’ (1995)

A sugary sweet pop country-rock song, it kicked off the long tradition of hilarious Foo Fighters videos. Older fans might remember that the video led to fans throwing Mentos (or “Footos”) at the Foos when they played the song live, which led them to stop playing it. Happily, it returned to the set; the Mentos phase has thankfully passed.

26. “Run” – ‘Concrete And Gold’ (2017)

The song features some of Dave Grohl’s most primal screaming and still manages to be catchy and melodic. The band surprise-dropped the song and video and seven weeks later, it topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart, showing that the Foo Fighters were still relevant, twenty-two years into their career.

25. “Aurora” – ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ (1999)

It’s a favorite of the hardcore fans, and Dave Grohl likes it too. He told Rolling Stone: “It is definitely one of my favorite songs that we've ever come up with. It's a nostalgic look back at Seattle and the life I once had. That song actually questions the meaning of life.” He added, “It's probably the heaviest thing I've ever written."

24. “Gimme Stitches” – ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ (1999)

One of Dave Grohl’s most power-poppy songs, “Gimme Stitches” features one of his catchiest choruses.

23. “Baker Street” – B-side of “My Hero”

23. “Baker Street” - B-side of “My Hero” Dave Grohl has always had a jones for ‘70s soft rock... as seen here, on this cover of the Gerry Rafferty classic. The original version, a #2 pop hit in 1978, was driven by the iconic saxophone playing of Raphael Ravenscroft, which the Foos replaced with (of course) screaming guitars.

22. “The Pretender” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

One of the Foo Fighters’ heaviest songs had a bit of an unlikely lyrical influence: the ‘Sesame Street’ song “One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others.” Grohl has always been great at mixing heavy guitars and drums with a pop sensibility, and he does it brilliantly here, adding in a Chuck Berry-ish guitar riff for good measure.

21. “Learn To Fly” – ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ (1999)

Dave Grohl’s progression from drummer to bandleader was a difficult one, and by ‘99, he’d parted ways with three former Foo Fighters; drummer William Goldsmith and guitarists Pat Smear and Franz Stahl. ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ was recorded by the trio of Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer Taylor Hawkins, and on “Learn To Fly,” Grohl was coming to terms with being the man at the top. At one point, he expressed ambivalence about the song, but later revised his opinion. "Lyrically it was all about just settling in to the next phase of your life,” he told Kerrang! “That place where you can sit back and relax because there had been so much crazy s--- in the past three years.” And the video, featuring Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, is legendary.

20. “Rope” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

The first single from one of the band’s best albums, ‘Wasting Light,’ this song and album reintroduced Pat Smear as a full-time Foo Fighter, giving the group a new three-guitar attack of Grohl, Smear and Chris Shiflett.

19. “All My Life” – ‘One By One’ (2002)

A rather R-rated jam about oral sex, it was an unusual choice for the first single and lead track from ‘One By One.’ Most artists from the ‘90s/’00s alt-rock era didn’t sing too much about sex, but Grohl stuffs a lot of rock star swagger in the punky tune, bragging, “Done! Done! On to the next one!”

18. “Hey, Johnny Park!” – ‘The Colour And The Shape’ (1997)

The song’s title is named for Dave Grohl’s boyhood friend, Johnny Park, who he’d lost touch with, but that has nothing to do with the rest of the song. When he asks, “Am I selling you out?” Grohl sounds defensive: all these years later, the concept of “selling out” seems quaint. But the truth is, Grohl has become one of music’s biggest and most enduring stars, and he’s done it on his own terms.

17. “Erase/Replace” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

This song starts with a soaring guitar riff, not unlike the one in “Baker Street,” and the riffs get heavier as the song progresses. Grohl has said that as a drummer and a guitar player, he loves to play and write riffs; he must have had a blast writing this song.

16. “Another Round” – ‘In Your Honor’ (2005)

The acoustic half of ‘In Your Honor’ had some of Dave Grohl’s best songs, and he looked outside the band to expand their sound. “Another Round” features Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones on mandolin, Rami Jaffe of the Wallflowers on keyboards (he’d later join the Foo Fighters) and famed rock photographer Danny Clinch plays harmonica.

15. “Next Year” – “There Is Nothing Left To Lose” (1999)

By the late ‘90s, Dave Grohl seemed to get more and more comfortable with his inner soft-rocker, and was writing more mellow jams that worked side by side with his raging guitar rockers. This is a perfect example; you could almost imagine a mainstream country artist scoring a hit with this song.

14. “Walking After You” – ‘X-Files: The Album’ (1998)

The original version of this was on ‘The Colour And The Shape,’ but the band re-recorded it the following year for the ‘X-Files’ soundtrack. It’s a rare recording with guitarist Franz Stahl and is one of their first tracks with Taylor Hawkins. The re-recorded version is a bit shorter and has some sweet backing vocals. The video shows Grohl doing some serious acting too (it’s on YouTube).

13. “I’ll Stick Around” – ‘Foo Fighters’ (1995)

Fun fact: this song was the Foo Fighters’ first music video, and it was directed by Gerald Casale of Devo. The song is an early example of Grohl merging his love for hardcore punk (the “I! Don’t! Owe! You! Anything!” chant) and melodic Beatlesque rock.

12. “Arlandria” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

Named after the town in Virginia where Dave Grohl was living, on “Arlandria” he rages against celebrity status, two decades after he became a household name as Nirvana’s drummer and sixteen years after the Foo Fighters’ first album. “Close your eyes, turn around, help me burn this to the ground/Come now, take the blame, that's OK I'll play the game/I don't care it's all the same, watch it all go up in flames/Use me up, spit me out, let me be your hand-me-down/Fame, fame, go away, come again some other day.” The lyrics were a bit surprising, as Grohl seems to handle celebrity better than most, and it seems like he’s figured it out. Speaking of which, it’s crazy that ‘Saturday Night Live’ *still* hasn’t tapped him to host an episode!

11. “Let It Die” – ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)

Many of the Foo Fighters songs used Nirvana’s (and the Pixies’) quiet/loud dynamic, and “Let It Die” holds up to the songs in both of those bands’ catalogs. The lyrics are vague: “Why'd you have to go/And let it die/Do you ever think of me/You're so considerate,” and, as with many of Dave Grohl’s songs, are like lyrical Rorschachs: what they mean to you is as much a reflection of you as whatever inspired them. Ex- guitarist Pat Smear guested on the song; he’d soon rejoin the band.

10. “I Should Have Known” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic reunited, post-Nirvana, twice in 1995: they played together on Mike Watt’s first solo album, and on an album by a band called the Stinky Puffs. This was their first recorded collaboration in 16 years, and with all due respect to Nate Mendel, the Foo Fighters’ longest-running non-Grohl member, Novoseic’s bass playing was perfect for this song. He added some accordion as well. It’s probably not a coincidence that this album was produced by the same guy who produced ‘Nevermind,’ Butch Vig.

9. “Monkey Wrench” – ‘The Colour And The Shape’ (1997)

The first Foo Fighters album was a stunning collection: a nearly perfect group of songs written, sung and played by Dave Grohl. But would there be a sophomore slump? The first single from ‘The Colour And The Shape’ quickly squashed that question. The video, directed by Grohl, marked the first appearance of Taylor Hawkins as a Foo Fighter; original drummer William Goldsmith played on a few songs on the album, but Grohl used his own playing on most of the songs. Hawkins -- previously a member of Alanis Morissette’s band -- didn’t join until after the album was in the can.

8. “Dear Rosemary” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

Dave Grohl has always cited Husker Du’s Bob Mould as an influence (even name dropping Husker Du’s “New Day Rising” in “Times Like These”). But here, Mould joins the Foo Fighters, playing guitar and singing very distinct vocals on this song, which is one of the band’s greatest non-singles.

7. “Stacked Actors” – ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ (1999)

Featuring one of the Foo Fighters’ heaviest guitar riffs, many fans presumed that the song was about Courtney Love, but Dave Grohl has said that it was about his experience of living in Hollywood.

6. “Walk” – ‘Wasting Light’ (2011)

Originally written for the previous album, ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,’ Grohl decided that it made the perfect ending for ‘Wasting Light.’ It’s an uplifting anthem about second chances and starting over, something Grohl knows a bit about: “Learning to walk again I believe I've waited long enough/Where do I begin?”

5. “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” – ‘Concrete And Gold’ (2017)

Famed astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson doesn’t come up as a musical influence often, but Grohl said that his song was inspired by Tyson’s answer to the question: “What is the most astounding fact about the universe?” (You can find the video on YouTube.) Appropriately, he used wide-screen production: there’s a string section and backing vocals from powerhouse singer Alison Mosshart of the Kills and the Dead Weather.

4. “This Is A Call” – “Foo Fighters’ (1995)

Dave Grohl played bass guitar on “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me For A Sunbeam” from Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged, which may have surprised some who thought he was “just” a drummer (although if were you type who checked out the B-sides, you probably heard the Grohl-written and sung “Marigold,” the b-side to “Heart Shaped Box”). OK, but could he lead a band? The first single from the Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut, which was also the album’s lead track, announced that Grohl was way more talented than we’d realized. Indeed, the first Foo Fighters record is essentially a Dave Grohl solo album, as he sang, played bass, drums and all of the guitars (except for “X-Static,” which featured Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs). Fans and radio reacted quickly to the new Grohl: “This Is A Call” hit #2 on the alternative charts, and #6 on the mainstream rock charts.

3. “My Hero” – ‘The Colour And The Shape’ (1997)

Fans have interpreted this song to be about Kurt Cobain, but Dave Grohl has never verified that. In the Foo Fighters’ performance on ‘VH1 Storytellers,’ Grohl said that it was inspired by the seemingly normal characters in ‘80s films like ‘Valley Girl.’ Yet another rumor is that the song is about Pete Stahl, the singer of Scream, a DC-area hardcore band that Grohl played in prior to joining Nirvana (the band’s guitarist Franz Stahl was briefly a member of the Foo Fighters). But a recurring theme with Grohl’s best songs is that, regardless of what they were written about, they’re vague enough that you can apply them to your life, and it’s probably one of the many reasons why the band has been so popular for so long.

2. “Times Like These” – ‘One By One’ (2002)

The ‘One By One’ sessions weren’t easy, and during a break in the action, Dave Grohl wrote this song. “It's times like these you learn to live again/It's times like these you give and give again” might have been about his relationship with the band, but the song is malleable enough to fit different situations. Case in point: a number of British pop stars recently recorded a socially-distinct version of the song for the BBC; Grohl and Taylor Hawkins contributed to the recording as well. It also showed the wide and enduring appeal of the band: most of those pop singers are probably not familiar with the Foos’ peers or their influences.

1. “Everlong” – ‘The Colour And The Shape’ (1997)

“When I sing along with you/ If everything could ever feel this real forever/If anything could ever be this good again/The only thing I'll ever ask of you/You've got to promise not to stop when I say when.” This song was released three years after Kurt Cobain’s death, and it certainly felt like it could have been about him. Dave Grohl allegedly wrote that about an ex-, but, as we’ve mentioned, universal lyrics transcend their original inspiration, and that’s certainly true here. It also clearly has a lot of meaning to David Letterman: in 2000, after the talk show host had quintuple bypass surgery, he said that listening to “Everlong” was crucial to his recovery. For his first show back after the surgery, Letterman asked the band to come on the show and play that song. The Foo Fighters often close their shows with this song, and -- of course -- the audience sings along with Dave. Many of them surely have their own stories too, and it’s always a powerful moment.

Foo Fighters presale as it happened with cheapest tickets selling out for Cardiff date

Foo Fighters are bringing their Everything or Nothing At All tour to the Principality Stadium in 2024

  • Updated 16:46, 28 JUN 2023

Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters on stage at Glastonbury 2023

Foo Fighters will return to Wales for the first time in almost two decades in 2024 as they bring their Everything or Nothing At All tour to the Principality Stadium.

The band, fronted by Dave Grohl, officially announced their tour on Monday, June 26, just days after appearing as surprise guests at Glastonbury Festival under the guise of mystery acts The Churn-ups. They told the crowd they would tour the UK in 2024 and have now released dates.

They will be at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on June 25, 2024 and presale tickets went on sale today (June 28). While general sale starts on Friday, June 30 at 9am. The general admission (eg standing on the stadium floor) presale tickets have already sold out, there are a few, more expensive options left, like the platinum option and they start at £200.

Don't forget, general sale starts Friday and you can find them, here.

The band last performed in Cardiff in 2007 in the Motorpoint Arena and before that supported Oasis at the then-named Millennium Stadium on the Noise and Confusion tour. There have long been rumours that the band were to tour next year and lots of fans had been begging them to include a Cardiff date.

Cardiff hotel prices hiked to five times normal rate

Hotels in Cardiff have hiked their prices for June after a serious of huge gigs were announced for the capital.

Taylor Swift will be performing in Cardiff on Tuesday, June 18 2024 and Foo Fighters will take to the stage a week later on Tuesday, June 25 2024. If you are looking to stay in the capital for the gigs it appears this may be more expensive than normal.

Luxury hotel The Parkgate, which is within touching distance of the Principality Stadium, have hugely increased their prices for June 2024. Comparing the price of one room for one adult for one night, from Tuesday, September 19 to Wednesday, September 20, in 2023 (£115), one of the cheapest dates we found, to how much a room is in June 2024, there is a very noticeable difference.

For Taylor's gig on Tuesday, June 18 2024 one room for one adult for one night at The Parkgate Hotel will set you back at least £588. This price appears to remain for most of June 2024, on any date, with the cheapest room available for prices starting at £588.

More details here.
