50 Songs About Food

1. jack johnson – “banana pancakes”.

Let’s begin with this absolute feel-good tune.

“Banana Pancakes” is one of Jack Johnson’s signature songs from his fantastic studio album “In Between Dreams.”

And we really like this idea:

“Maybe we could sleep in Make you banana pancakes Pretend like its the weekend now We could pretend it all the time.”

2. MARINA – “Froot”

Marina Diamandis released “Froot” under her previous stage name Marina and the Diamonds.

At one point, “Froot” really seems like one of the songs about food.

“Living la Dolce Vita Life couldn’t get much sweeter Don’t you give me a reason That it’s not the right season.”

Don’t forget to pin this playlist for later!

A playlist of the 50 best songs about food and eating.

3. Harry Styles – “Watermelon Sugar”

We’re not sure if “Watermelon Sugar” is a song about food too.

But we can pretend Harry really does sing about fruit.

Either way, “Watermelon Sugar” is a catchy tune that will transport you to a summer state of mind immediately.

4. The Beatles – “Honey Pie”

The Beatles released “Honey Pie ” on their ninth self-titled album (the white album.)

It’s not one of the most popular songs about food, but it’s a really sweet tune. Almost as sweet as honey pie.

5. Maroon 5 – “Sugar”

On the other hand, “Sugar” by Maroon 5 can be described as an international hit.

When it comes to food in music, sugar is definitely one of the most common choices.

But Maroon 5 didn’t worry if their song will be forgettable. It turns out it isn’t, at least for now.

6. The Rolling Stones – “Brown Sugar”

Even the most iconic rock bands wanted to write a song about sugar.

This song is definitely about sugar; if sugar knows how to dance.

Nevertheless, “Brown Sugar” is a lively tune that will get you moving.

7. Coldplay – “Strawberry Swing”

“Strawberry Swing” sounds like one of the innocent songs with food in the title.

It was released on Coldplay’s beloved album “ Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.

“I remember We were walking up to strawberry swing I can’t wait ’til the morning Wouldn’t want to change a thing.”

8. Herbie Hancock – “Watermelon Man”

Harry Styles wasn’t the first to write a hit about watermelons. Herbie Hancock had done it long before him.

“Watermelon Man” was released in 1962.

And it’s arguably one of the most popular jazz food songs.

9. Lilly Allen – “Apples”

“Apples” is a track from Lilly Allen’s 2018 studio album “No Shame.”

It’s a tender song about relationships and family .

At the end of the song, Lilly Allen realizes that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

10. Drake – “Passionfruit”

It makes perfect sense that passionfruit is one of the most popular types of food in music.

Drake released “Passionfruit” on his playlist mixtape in 2017.

It’s a catchy song ideal for evening walks on the beach.

11. DNCE – “Cake by the Ocean”

When it comes to catchy songs about food, we can’t skip “Cake by the Ocean.”

Although the real meaning of this song is quite clear, DNCE was serious about including cake in the music video.

12. Rihanna – “Birthday Cake”

Rihanna was more specific about what kind of cake she wanted to sing about.

It’s a rather short but catchy tune from her album “Talk That Talk.”

Cake, cake, cake, cake…

13. Adele – “I Drink Wine”

This is one of the songs about food or drink in the title that doesn’t seem to have hidden meanings.

Adele’s songwriting is straightforward yet sophisticated. And it’s definitely personal.

She released “I Drink Wine” on one of her perhaps most personal albums, her latest album “30.”

“When I was a child Every single thing could blow my mind Soaking it all up for fun But now I only soak up wine.”

14. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – “The Onion Song”

This is probably one of the most unique songs about food.

Why is that so? Because the title sounds a bit funny, but it’s actually a beautiful, heartwarming song.

And these lines actually make a lot of sense:

“The world is just a great big onion And pain and fear are the spices that make you cry.”

15. The Beach Boys – “Vegetables”

The Beach Boys were serious about their vegetable intake.

It’s one of the songs about food and cooking that will motivate you to start chopping and stirring right away.

After all, The Beach Boys are all about good vibrations.

16. Franz Ferdinand – “Fresh Strawberries”

If you’re searching for indie songs with food references, this one is for you.

“Fresh Strawberries” isn’t one of Franz Ferdinand’s most famous hits, but it’s a nice track that will remind you to get some fresh strawberries.

17. Lorde – “Fallen Fruit”

“Fallen Fruit” is hands down one of the most powerful tracks from Lorde’s 2021 album “Solar Power.”

It’s simple but captivating and meaningful.

“And we will walk together Psychedelic garlands in our hair Through the halls of splendor where the apple trees all grew You’ll leave us dancing on the fallen fruit.”

18. Paolo Nutini – “Candy”

Released in 2009, “Candy” remains one of Paolo Nutini’s best songs.

It’s romantic, dreamy, and memorable.

19. Gym Class Heroes – “Cookie Jar”

We all have a special place in our kitchen for a cookie jar.

And in their 2008 track, Gym Class Heroes admit they’re cookie-holics.

20. Katy Perry – “Bon Appetit”

There’s plenty of food in Katy Perry’s music video for “Bon Appetit.”

So, if you’re looking for pop songs about food, you probably won’t find a more food-related song than this one.

21. U2 – “Lemon”

Lemon is another fruit popular among musicians.

And it seems like Bono was inspired by the girl who wore lemon.

“Lemon See-through in the sunlight She wore lemon But never in the daylight.”

22. Editors – “Sugar”

Unlike a lot of food-themed songs, “Sugar” by Editors is not very cheerful.

But it’s definitely powerful.

“There’s sugar on your soul And your like no one I know You’re the life of another world.”

23. Kate Nash – “Pumpkin Soup”

If you need a soundtrack for cooking (especially pumpkin soup), we recommend this song.

It’s incredibly catchy and uplifting.

24. MIKA – “Lollipop”

This could also be a good song for cooking. Well, if you’re ready to dance it out in the kitchen.

Mika released “Lollipop” in 2007, but its melody is still occasionally stuck in our heads.

25. Hot Butter – “Popcorn”

We’re certain that many people have looked for the title of this song for ages.

Everything was a bit more complicated before the Shazam era.

Either way, this is a classic food song. Even the name of the band fits the topic.

26. Van Halen – “Ice Cream Man”

“Ice Cream Man” was originally recorded by the Chicago blues musician John Brim.

But it became popular after Van Halen made a cover of it in 1978.

27. Jason Mraz – “Too Much Food”

If you’re searching for songs about eating too much, this tune is perfect for you.

And it’s an appropriate song for the holiday season.

“People say that I’m crazy for not moving on to better things Instead I’m sitting around trash talking with the onion rings.”

28. Lana Del Rey – “Cola”

Without a doubt, Lana Del Rey wrote some of the most seductive songs about food and drink.

And “Cola” is one of them.

29. Hozier – “Cherry Wine”

This tune is a bit more appropriate for a romantic candlelight dinner.

It’s tender and very easy to listen to.

“The way she tells me I’m hers and she is mine Open hand or closed fist would be fine The blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine.”

30. Courtney Barnett – “Sunday Roast”

Food is also about connecting people. Sharing a meal has always been an important part of socialization.

And this tune sounds like a nice soundtrack to a Sunday family lunch.

31. Nancy Sinatra – “Summer Wine”

On the other hand, wine is mostly associated with romantic encounters and fine dining.

And Nancy Sinatra was aware of that.

“Summer Wine” is arguably one of the most charming and timeless songs about food and drink on our list.

“Strawberries, cherries and an angel’s kiss in spring My summer wine is really made from all these things.”

32. CocoRosie – “Lemonade”

At first, this can seem like one of the sweet songs about food and drink, but “Lemonade” is actually a rather melancholic tune.

It’s very captivating though, like most of CocoRosie’s music.

33. Jungle – “Cherry”

Cherry is also a popular type of food in music.

And although Jungle doesn’t really talk about cherries in their 2018 track, we decided to include it on our list. It’s a very nice, mellow tune.

34. Taylor Swift – “champagne problems”

“ Your mom’s ring in your pocket My picture in your wallet Your heart was glass, I dropped it Champagne problems.”

As you would expect from Taylor Swift, “champagne problems” is a lovely yet slightly melancholic love song.

And it’s a nice addition to our food songs playlist.

35. Kacey Musgraves – “Biscuits”

Of course, there are also a lot of country songs about food.

And Kacey Musgraves dedicated this cheerful tune to her favorite food.

Okay, she also dedicated it to some other things.

The most important (and truthful) line is: “Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy.”

36. Cyn – “Drinks”

In her song “Drinks”, Cyn doesn’t care about anything but getting drinks with her friends.

It’s a nice tune to start the weekend.

37. Nothing But Thieves – “Honey Whiskey”

When it comes to weekend drinks, perhaps you prefer honey whiskey.

In this catchy song, the protagonist thinks it’s better to leave before doing something he might regret. Well, it’s a relatable story.

38. Kings of Leon – “Milk”

And maybe you feel like staying at home with a glass of milk?

In that case, Kings of Leon would make a nice soundtrack.

They released “Milk” on their second studio album in 2004.

39. Sofi Tukker – “Drinkee”

Well, this song will definitely make you want to go out and party.

“Drinkee” is Sofi Tukker’s debut single, and it’s actually adapted from the poem “Relógio” by the Brazilian Portuguese writer Chacal.

40. The Kills – “Sour Cherry”

Here comes another song about food mentioning cherry. A sour cherry, to be precise.

It’s a somewhat quirky but catchy tune that keeps repeating: “Am I the only sour cherry on the fruit stand?”

41. James Bay – “Pink Lemonade”

James Bay turned to a more cheerful sound with his song “Pink Lemonade.”

The lyrics are a little less cheerful, but they fit.

42. The Jesus and Mary Chain – “Just Like Honey”

Although it talks about addiction, “Just Like Honey” by The Jesus and Mary Chain is a rather sweet song.

The song is also featured in the closing credits of the movie “Lost in Translation.”

43. Blur – “Coffee and TV”

We didn’t forget about Blur’s iconic song “Coffee and TV.”

It’s an upbeat song with not very optimistic lyrics. It all makes more sense if you consider the fact that the band’s guitarist Graham Coxon wrote it after he gave up alcohol.

Coffee and TV” also has a memorable music video (yes, the one with the milk carton walking around.)

44. Roxette – “Milk And Toast And Honey”

When it comes to song titles with food in them, Roxette’s 2001 track obviously belongs on the list.

However, unlike the Blur track, it’s a really tender and simple pop song.

45. All Saints – “Black Coffee”

Let’s continue with pop music about food.

“Black Coffee” is a dreamy feel-good song released in 2000.

It’s a great tune to start your day with.

“Brush your teeth And pour a cup of black coffee out I love to watch you do that every day The little things that you do.”

46. Billy Raffoul – “Coffee”

We’re not sure if Billy Raffoul is singing to coffee or someone he loves. Maybe both.

Either way, he also decided to dedicate a song to the most beloved warm drink.

47. Fink – “Biscuits”

And what is coffee without biscuits?

Fink released “Biscuits” on his debut album “Biscuits for Breakfast.”

Considering Fink’s music and songwriting, this is probably not a song about food, but it has nice references to it.

48. A Tribe Called Quest – “Ham ‘N’ Eggs”

“Ham ‘N’ Eggs” is undoubtedly one of the most detailed songs about eating.

It’s not just about ham and eggs. There’s also an apple sauce and some nice red beets…

“Now drop the beat, so I can talk about my favorite tastings The food that is the everlasting, see I’m not fasting.”

49. “The Oliver! Ensemble – “Food, Glorious Food”

If you’re wondering where are all the funny songs about food, this is your jam.

This tune from the “Oliver!” musical is an ode to food, and it will certainly make you smile and dance.

50. James Brown – “I Got You (I Feel Good)”

Food simply makes us feel good. Just like this timeless hit does.

So, why not finish this playlist with good vibes?

Final Thoughts

We hope you enjoyed our list of the best songs about food.

After all, food isn’t just something you eat. It’s also a source of joy and an opportunity for making memories with people you love.

And although food-related songs are often metaphorical, they can also remind you to appreciate the food you eat.

In the end, delicious food and good music make our lives so much better.

So, turn up the music, cook yourself something nice, and enjoy!

10 Clever Ideas For Naming An Album

Putting the final touches on your album can be a daunting process – especially if one of those final decisions is your album title. How do you capture the overall theme of your album with just one word or phrase?

If you’re struggling to name your album, there are a few ideas that might jump-start your inspiration. Some things you may want to consider are the main theme, the inspiration for the album, and a lyric of one of the songs.

So, if you’re at a loss on what to name your album, we have 10 tips to help spark your creativity.

1. Use A Song Name From The Album

The most common way to name an album is to name it after one of the songs on the album. This is called a “Title Track”. Pick a song on the album that seems to represent the entire theme the best, or just use the first or last track.

food trip album title

The Beach Boys –  Pet Sounds

One example of this is The Beach Boys –  Pet Sounds . This title track was originally written as the theme song for a Bond movie, but it didn’t end up being used.

Instead, the song was placed on the album as an instrumental interlude called “Pet Sounds,” which Brian Wilson eventually decided to name the entire album.

Band member Carl Wilson has said, “The idea he [Brian] had was that everybody has these sounds that they love, and this was a collection of his ‘pet sounds.’ … It was just so much more than a record; it had such a spiritual quality. It wasn’t going in and doing another top ten. It had so much more meaning than that.”

food trip album title

Bob Dylan –  Highway 61 Revisited

Highway 61 Revisited  is the sixth studio album by Bob Dylan , released in 1965 by Columbia Records. The title track is the seventh song on the album and features biblical lyrics and celebrates the history of the blues.

In his memoir  Chronicles: Volume One , Dylan described the love he felt with the Highway 61 route: “Highway 61, the main thoroughfare of the country blues, begins about where I began. I always felt like I’d started on it, always had been on it, and could go anywhere, even down into the deep Delta country. It was the same road, full of the same contradictions, the same one-horse towns, the same spiritual ancestors … It was my place in the universe, always felt like it was in my blood.”

So, if you’re stumped with what to name your album, this route may be the easiest to take. Well, maybe the second easiest compared to our next suggestion.

2. Self-Title The Album With Your Artist Name

Bands decide to self-title an album because they think it represents the band and their music. By self-titling an album the band is saying, “This is who we are.”

Many bands have at least one self-titled album, and commonly it is their very first album. However, some bands have waited to self-title until their third or fourth album. Some bands even have multiple self-titled albums.

Have you ever wondered Why Are Albums Self-Titled? It’s a valid question, and we have the answer.

One benefit to self-titling an album – especially if it’s your first – is increased name recognition. Having a self-titled album as a debut limits confusion between the album title and the artist’s name because they’re one and the same.

This kind of thinking comes from the old days when music lovers dug through stacks of records by bands no one even knew existed. But the idea still applies, even in our digital music world.

If you’re scrolling through Spotify and you find an album you’ve never heard of before called, “Queens of the Stone Age – Queens of the Stone Age,” it’s easy to understand, “Oh, this band is probably called Queens of the Stone Age.”

The self-titled album makes an effort to quickly explain, “This is our band name. This is who we are,” since it’s easier to just have one name on the album cover, instead of two.

Another reason a band may choose to self-title is to announce a change in sound. Many bands choose to make self-titled albums so they can do something different, without confusing their fans.

When an artist makes their third, fourth, or fifth album self-titled, they’re saying, “We’re back. We’re different. These songs represent who we are now .”

The downside is those self-titled albums can be seen as a cop-out – like a band couldn’t come up with anything good so they just settled with recycling the band name as an album title. But, what happens if you have multiple albums that you want to self-title? Don’t worry, that’s been done too and we have a couple of ideas to help distinguish between your consecutive self-titled albums.

3. Use Consecutive Album Names

food trip album title

The Beatles – The White Album

For many artists, “Because The Beatles did it” is the best reason to do anything.

Their self-titled album , The Beatles , also known as  The White Album , set a standard for self-titled albums that many bands have tried to imitate.

The Beatles  is a 30-track double album of raw, genre-sprawling material intended to contrast their previous LP ( Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band ) both sonically and visually. The album is enclosed in pure white sleeves, displaying nothing but the band’s name embossed on the cover.

Even though The Beatles weren’t the first band to self-title an album, The Beatles (The White Album) continues to inspire musicians to imitate its success.

The Beatles also released a Blue Album and a Red Album during their outstanding career. Both of these albums were self-titled and distinguished by their album color.

food trip album title

Weezer – Blue

Weezer is also a unique example of self-titling and using color to differentiate their albums.

Of their 13-album discography, six are self-titled (distinguished largely by the color of the cover), clearly marking when the band is making a deliberate choice  not  to name their albums.

Their debut self-titled album (Blue) started the trend almost accidentally.

After a commercially disappointing sophomore album, their second self-titled album (Green) was a glorious return to form.

Their third self-titled album (Red) is widely believed to be because the band members couldn’t select an album name (Rivers Cuomo, the band’s frontman confirmed that they wanted to name it “The Pure Sounds of Weezer” but not everyone agreed, so they just went with “Weezer” again).

11 years and three additional self-titled albums later (White, Teal, and Black), Weezer has repeatedly added themselves to the list of bands who occasionally choose not to label their music with a distracting title.

food trip album title

Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II

Led Zeppelin’s first four albums are untitled and identified by number.

The first, Led Zeppelin, was released on January 12, 1969. This was followed by Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III. Finally, the untitled fourth studio album by Led Zeppelin, commonly known as  Led Zeppelin IV , was released on 8 November 1971.

4. Identify The Inspiration Behind The Album

For some musicians a single event, person, or place can inspire an entire album.

You can find your album name by drawing on the same inspiration that you had while creating it. This is a great way to name the album while also paying tribute to its inspiration.

It can also create an artistic and somewhat cryptic feel to the album. Unless you’ve specifically used any lyrics, only those close to you will understand the true meaning behind the name.

Frank Ocean – Channel ORANGE

Channel ORANGE is Frank Ocean’s debut studio album, released in 2012 by Def Jam Recordings.

Frank Ocean is unique for many reasons; one being that he experiences the phenomena of synesthesia, which means the ability to see colors that relate to emotions.

The discography of Channel ORANGE  embodies the summer when Frank Ocean fell in love.

The orange, which can be seen on the album art, is the same orange he saw as he experienced that love. The purpose of the album is to replicate his version of love in melodies, songs, and album art.

5. Capture The Theme Of The Album

Even if you aren’t writing a concept album, there are usually a few themes that embody the album.

Coming up with a catchy phrase that describes one or all of your album themes can give listeners a good idea of what to expect.

food trip album title

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly

To Pimp A Butterfly  is an incredible album title and an example of capturing the theme of an album with one phrase.

The idea of the album is that ‘butterflies’ in the ghetto are being deliberately stopped from reaching their potential. Instead, these men, women, and children are being ‘pimped’ and used by the cruelty around them.

To Pimp A Butterfly perfectly expresses the album themes and, honestly, is just such a clever album title.

6. Use A Specific Lyric Or Phrase From The Album

Cutting songs or lyrics happen all the time when releasing a record. If there is one song or one lyric that you love, but it just didn’t quite make the cut, now would be a great time to use it – by making it your album name.

Some bands even use the names of cut songs as an album title and then have gone on to use the song in later albums.

The process of naming an album is a lot like naming the songs themselves. Check out How To Name Your Song: 10 Tips For Creating A Memorable Title (With Examples) .

Led Zeppelin released an album called  Houses of the Holy after a cut song, but then turned around and actually used that song on their  Physical Graffiti album.

Or, rather than directly using one of your song names, you could opt to grab a hook from one of the songs instead. Even if it’s not the most popular song, it may still capture the essence of the album. One example of this is Selling England by the Pound by Genesis.

The hook can be seen here:

“Paper late!” cried a voice in the crowd “Old man dies!” The note he left was signed ‘Old Father Thames’ It seems he’s drowned Selling England by the Pound — Genesis

Genesis created some clever wordplay as well as a strong statement.

It is common for certain items to be “sold by the pound,” which means the price is dependent on the weight of the item.

The concept of “Selling England by the Pound” is a strange concept, as you’d normally use this to depict the selling of more ordinary items, like food in a grocery store.

7. Name The Album After Another Artist’s Song

There is a Wikipedia page full of examples of bands named after other performer’s songs – if they can name their band after another song, why couldn’t you do the same thing with an album?

Some of those examples include:

  • Flume, after Bon Iver’s “Flume”
  • Hello Goodbye, after The Beatles’ “Hello, Goodbye”
  • Poison, after Kix’s “Poison”
  • Pierce the Veil, after Before Today’s “Pierce the Veil”
  • Radiohead, after Talking Heads’ “Radio Head”

Hey, steal like an artist, you know?

8. Use An Album Name Generator

Okay, I know this isn’t the most creative option, but sometimes it helps spark a thought that leads to something original.

I would for sure recommend any of the tips above before going with a name generator, but it might give you a word or phrase that may inspire the real album name. Probably a last resort, but you never know.

I tired one recently for fun and here’s what it gave me:

  • Bent out of shape
  • Crowd Control

So, you know, not awesome but it could spark some creativity on your part. It may surprise you. If you want to try it out for fun. Here are a few sites that I found:

  • Cool Generator
  • Rum & Monkey

Another random place you could try to find inspiration is Wikipedia. Go to Wikipedia and hit “random article” on the left side menu and an article will pop up. The name of that article could be the name of your band.

Using this method gave me:

  • The Final Girl(s)
  • The Only Way
  • Hollywood or Bust

And then a bunch of random people’s names, which I just skipped over because how random would that be? Anyway, like I said, very random but could potentially be helpful.

9. Name The Album After The Artwork

If you or your band puts a lot of emphasis on the album visuals, like the album art or the groups’ aesthetic, you can generally come up with a phrase that embodies who your band is at the time of the album’s release.

For example, if a specific photograph or painting inspired the record, and you want to use that as the artwork for the album, it only makes sense to name it after the artwork.

10. Name The Album After Where It Was Recorded

food trip album title

While most independent artists find themselves recording in their bedrooms or in a friend’s basement, sometimes artists get the rare opportunity to record somewhere amazing. Your band can take a trip to a cabin in the woods or stay at a relative’s spare home by the ocean.

Wherever you record, the atmosphere can be enough to inspire even more music, and even the name of the album.

The Beatles obviously did this with Abbey Road , but another example is the band From Indian Lakes.

Although the band’s discography doesn’t reflect a place, the band name itself does.

While recording the band’s first demos and singles at a friend’s studio in Indian Lakes, California, the band’s originator, Joey Vannucchi decided to call the band From Indian Lakes.

Both clever and catchy, so location can always be a great inspiration for album names.

A Few Other Things To Consider:

Capitalization.

Whether you want every word to be capitalized or lowercase or a mix of the two, deciding how to portray the songs can be an important aesthetic for your brand.

For example, Copeland used Title Capitalization for their 2019 album, Blushing . You can see the tracklisting below:

A great example of lowercase stylization is joan, who continues to lowercase their band name and individual songs. With songs like, “i loved you first,” and “ease your mind,” they’ve made the relaxed lowercase vibe their aesthetic.

Noah Gunderson switched up his capitalization between albums. In his 2019 album WHITE NOISE B-SIDES he capitalized his album title and his songs, which appeared like this:

He then switched to Title Capitalization for his most recent album, Lover .

Whatever you decide will be a great aesthetic for you, just make it a point to choose a stylization and not just default to what you feel is normal.

Title Length

food trip album title

Oh, The 1975! Who would have ever thought that anyone could successfully name an album, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it. But they did it and it’s awesome. It’s so long and out of the ordinary that fans just abbreviate it to iliwys .

Other albums use one word or even just a number. Kanye West even made up his own word, Yeezus , which tells us Kanye has embraced his giant ego completely.

Taylor Swift released an album that was just titled with a year: 1989. Naming her album after her birthdate signifies that she wants the world how much she has grown as an artist over the years. She’s saying, “This is Taylor Swift.”

So, after you have your perfect title picked out take some time to think about its stylization because it’s just as important to your band’s image.

Related Questions:

Why are singers’ albums generally released every 2 years.

The making of an album usually requires: writing the music, recording, production, mixing, and mastering.

This progression can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, with some projects taking a year or more.

And then, the marketing, distribution, artwork, copyright, and licensing all need to take place. Depending on the size of your team and operation, this can take anywhere from a month to six months.

After both of these cycles are completed, the artist then promotes that record through interviewing and touring the country.

Before COVID-19, touring was historically where artists made most of their money, so many artists would tour for a year or more promoting the same album.

This entire process – the album cycle – generally takes two years and is followed religiously by most “major label” musicians.

How Do Singers Come Up With Their Stage Names?

There are many different avenues that you could take to find your stage name. A stage name is often based on a name you were called with as a child, a nickname or something based on your personality.

Some common ways to help you come up with your stage name:

  • An altered version of your real name. Example: Drake’s given name is Aubrey Drake Graham
  • Omitting the middle name. Example: Taylor Alison Swift is Taylor Swift
  • A person, place or thing: Example: Passenger, The Weeknd
  • 2 Common nouns put together: Example: Guns N’ Roses, Flying Lotus
  • 1 Unique word. Example: Avicii, Skrillex, Stromae
  • 1 word + Number/Sp Character: For example: 50 Cent, 2 Pac, 2 Chainz, Ke$ha

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

St. Augustine once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”

Travel makes our lives better. When we see and experience other cultures and get to know people in other places, it deepens our worldview, teaches us flexibility, shows us the beauty of other cultures, and lets us rest and recharge.

Sharing our travel experiences through a photo album helps keep our memories vivid, provides a record of the people and places we’ve seen, documents the experiences we’ve had, and provides a legacy of stories to pass on to our family members.

The problem is that when we come back from our trips, our photos often get digitally buried with the rest of our day-to-day images. You may not know how to translate the images you’ve taken on your trip into an attractive album that documents your experience.

If you need some guidance on how create your own travel album, we’re here to help! This post will give you advice on how to take helpful notes during your trip, show you how to get organized before you create your album, and give you the technical tools and advice you’ll need to create your album.

Let’s dig in!

Documenting Your Travel Experience While You’re Still on the Road

To help keep your album organized and make the design process easier and more efficient, I recommend keeping a written record of your travel.

We gave some tips on this process in some of our previous posts, so you can check out these articles for help with your documentation efforts:

  • How to document the stories of your trip
  • Keeping a written record of your group vacation
  • How to organize your vacation photos while you’re still on vacation

A little prep work while you’re still on the road can make your album creation process a lot easier…and I promise, it doesn’t have to take a long time or take away from the fun of your trip!

Step One: Do Your Prep Work

Once you’ve returned and settled back in, it’s time to do the prep work to create your album.

I recommend starting by creating a written list of the things you’d like to include in your album. Your list could include any (or all) of the following:

  • The places you visited.
  • Your favorite stories from the trip (including things that didn’t go according to plan!).
  • The people you traveling with, or met along the way.
  • The food you ate.
  • The activities and adventures of the trip.

Once you’ve created your list, it’s time to organize your photos. Start by selecting the very best photos for your album, then edit the images you’ve chosen to remove red eye, straighten the images, adjust angles, improve lighting, etc..

Be careful about the resolution size of your images when you’re working with your photos. In general, use the largest photo you can. If you use a small photo, you will be limited by how much the photo can be enlarged in the album tool.

Most album designing sites will alert you if your photo does not meet the required number of pixels for the finished size you want to include in the album. If you ignore the warning, you’re going to have a photo that is blurry or grainy in your album, because it was enlarged more that the resolution of the image could handle!

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

I also recommend adding memorabilia to your album! Printed plane, train or museum tickets are becoming obsolete in these days of electronic ticketing, so if you have them, include them in your album pages. You can also take photos or scan printed items, and use those in the album as reminders of the trip

Once you’ve got your photos and memorabilia picked out and edited, you’re ready to move on to the next step.

Step Two: Pick Your Album Tool

You’ll need an online service to create and print your final album. Here are the ones I recommend for individuals who are creating their own albums:

  • Mixbook : Their books are a little on the pricier side, but they provide loads of options and the finish on the pages is high quality.
  • Shutterfly : Their software is easy to use, but some of their templates have varied spacing between photos. Be sure to choose a template with consistent spacing/gaps.
  • Apple Photo: If you’re a Mac user, you can create a photo album in your Photos App. To begin, Click File>Create>Book.
  • MPix : This service doesn’t offer quite as many album size options, but their print quality is excellent.

Once you’ve chosen the tool you’re going to work with, break up the project into manageable pieces so you can keep track of what you’ve already done, and work on a little bit at a time. I recommend creating a project folder on your computer, to copy your selected photos to. Then within that main folder, create sub-folders by theme and design one sub-folder at a time when you’re working on your album.

Step Three: Design Your Album

Now it’s time for the fun part: Designing your album! Here’s my recommended process for laying out your travel album:

Select your album size. Typical sizes for albums are 12×12, 10×10 or 11x 8. Choose a size that fits your trip, and fits the purpose of the album. Some online sites have limited size availability, so feel free to go back to Step Two if you need to pick a new tool.

Choose your paper and finish. Semi-gloss is my go-to paper finish for client projects, and it will work in most situations. Some sites offer premium finishes (like “Pearl”) for an additional fee.

You may also be able to also choose a “lay-flat” option for your album. When you choose this option, the album will get printed on sturdier, single sheet spreads that lay flat when the book is open, and your photos and text won’t get lost in the “gutters” of the pages.

Pick a template. The online sites listed above all offer a variety of design templates. You need to make sure your template doesn’t overwhelm your photos and stories, so I recommend choosing one with a simple background without embellishments, or creating a blank book and adding a muted background color.

When you go with a simple template, it also keeps the look timeless, ensuring that your album won’t look dated in a few years.

Group your photos together and start laying out your album. Go through the photos you chose in Step One, and group events together on the same “spread.”

When you view an album with photos on both the left and right side, that’s called a spread. It’s more cohesive to design spreads with a single theme, versus one theme on the left side and a different one on the right side.

If you want to limit the album to a certain number of pages, then combining themes on a spread is okay. In that case, I recommend having a clear separation between each theme, so the navigation is obvious to the viewer.

When you’re designing your album, remember that less is more. Don’t repeat photos of the same item or event, unless those photos are part of a series that tells a story (like a sunset, time lapse, moving item, or a reaction to a moment).

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

Choose the photos that tell a story. A chronological timeline is most common for travel albums (meaning you start at the beginning of your trip on the first page of your album, and end with the last part of your trip). You can also organized the album based on events, locations or architecture.

Here are some quick tech tips to help with the album layout process:

  • Keep events together on the same spread.
  • Limit the number of photos in a spread to 8 to 10 (depending on your album and spread size).
  • If a picture extends over the center seam, adjust the placement so the page crease doesn’t run through a person’s face (whenever possible).
  • If you modify photo frames, make sure the gaps between photos stay consistent. Most album software tools will allow you to customize templates, so you can modify a template or create your own. If they do that, they’ll need to make sure the photos are aligned within the frame. Check to be sure the gaps between photos are consistent, and take a look at the margins (including top, bottom, left, right margins, and the space between sides in the spread). Any inconsistencies will become an undesired focal point in your album.

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

Keep it interesting and personal. If possible, Include candid photos of people experiencing something new or different. Buildings can be interesting to put in albums – especially when the architecture is unique – but sometimes a lot of photos of objects can make your album feel less personal. It helps to include shots of people in front of buildings every now and then, to break things up and keep your album interesting.

Of course, if the theme of your album is architecture or animals, that’s different!  For example, in this Africa trip, this series of gorilla shots gives you a sense of the experience of being among a gorilla family.

The 4-Step Process for Creating a Beautiful Travel Album

Add captions or story text blocks. You want to make sure your album tells a story, especially for future generations, so include captions and stories in your album. This includes first and last names of the people in your photos!

Keep your font type and point size consistent throughout the entire album, and be careful not to put text over the center of a photo or across someone’s face.

Step Four: Print Your Album

When you are ready to print, I recommend previewing the album just to be sure it’s 100% ready to go.

Look for spelling mistakes, inconsistent photo alignment, margins, gaps between photos, point size on captions and titles. Also make sure there aren’t any resolution warnings of photos that need to be adjusted.

With so many things to check, I recommend checking for one at a time. For example, first check the album for text problems, and fix any issues you spot. Then go through the album again, focusing on alignment of photos and text. Finally, check that the template is centered within the spread, so that top and bottom margins are the same, and left and right margins are the same. When you focus on checking one thing at a time, you (hopefully) won’t getting distracted and miss problems.

For example, the photo below shows a spread with a date heading, narrative, labels and 9 photos. Everything is lined up and centered, so your eye isn’t distracted by a misaligned photo edge. The labels of the animals or locations are lined up across each line of photos, and they are in white to make them easily readable. There’s a lot on this spread to check, which is why I recommend going through and checking one element at a time when you do your final look before printing.

Kiss the Sunset Pig – Laurie Gough (I think)

It’s a great book about her previous travels, and trying to recapture those moments in her current trip.

50 77 Awesome Travel Blog Name Ideas

When I was getting ready to launch my  travel blog , I had a really tough time picking a name for the blog.  In reality, the name of a travel blog isn’t as important as you might think.  It isn’t as important as quality writing, a well-designed site, a good brand, and a lot of content.  However, your name is still a big piece of the puzzle, and should be something you like and can live with.  To come up with my blog’s name, I did an exercise to come up with as many awesome travel blog names as possible and then slowly narrowed it down to my current name.  I thought I would share this list with any future travel bloggers who are currently brainstorming for a name.  Not all of these were from my original list, as I have added more since, so go ahead and use this list as a starting point for your own brainstorming. UPDATE:   Feel free to use any of these names for your own travel blog.  People have been emailing me a lot asking if they can use a name on the list.  You don’t need my permission to use any of these names since I don’t own any of them.  I also don’t own any of the domain names, so if it’s already taken there isn’t anything I can do.  Good luck in your search!

1. Out of the Office – For a former cubicle worker who wants to quit and to put up an indefinite email out of office notification.

2. Plastic Free World  – This one was suggested by Faith, a zero-waste activist from Plastimistic , who suggested someone visits places around the world where people are finding creative ways to make travel more sustainable and waste-free.

3. Tweet Pray Love –  The digital version of famous book/movie.  Thanks to @AndyMonfre for this one!

13. Cats and Dogs Living Together – Are you planning on having chaotic travels?  Here’s a salute to   Bill Murray’s description of chaos in Ghostbusters.

17. Bathing in the Ocean – Variation of above.

100 Best Rock Bands With Food Names

  • Rock Legends

What is your favorite food? Celebrate a playlist of rock bands with food names.

To many, food is the way of life. For a foodie, trying new food or snack is pure thrill. Cuisines from different parts of the world have their own unique taste and flavor. In the realms of music, different types of foods and their expressions are hugely popular. Many musicians actually find inspiration to include food ideas in their bands name. Rock bands in particular have taken food inspired themes to a whole new level.

Significance of Food Names in Musical Groups

Musicians may mention food items in their band names for a variety of reasons. The vision of every group of musicians differs in accordance with their perspective. A creative thought process is implemented to come up with names that are unique in identity. The name of a specific food may be included with other words to bring about dynamism. Sometimes, food names are used as connecting terms with other words to highlight a deeper meaning. Certain musicians may arrange words to showcase a double entendre.

Certain musicians love to add contradictory elements from different genres to bring uniqueness to their band name. The name of a food is sometimes added with contrasting words that bring aesthetic value to a name. Food ideas may be incorporated in band names to give theatrical identity or make something absolutely illogical sound adorable. Sometimes nonsensical words are combined with food ideas to come up with whacky band names.

What Is the Purpose of Mentioning Food Items in Band Names?

food trip album title

Sometimes members in a musical group like to bring in a certain amount of absurdity by combining food-themes with words. A number of bands combine vague words with the intention of sounding outlandishly different. This is often done to build a conceptual identity to promote the band as a brand. Food related themes may also be incorporated by group members as their band name while having fun with words during a brainstorming session. Commonly mentioned foods in band names are

  • Meat and Poultry
  • Fish and Seafood
  • Fruit Preserves
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Dairy Products
  • Grains and Legumes

Bonnie McKee Reveals Which of the No. 1 Hits She Co-Wrote for Katy Perry Are Most Meaningful to Her (Exclusive)

McKee tells PEOPLE writing with Perry "was a really unexpected turn in my career that changed my life"

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

  • After a serendipitous run-in with Katy Perry, Bonnie McKee went on to co-write five No. 1 hits with the superstar
  • McKee, whose new album Hot City is out now is reflecting on their work together — and revealing her favorite tracks
  • As Perry works on her next album, McKee says she's "so excited to hear the new stuff that's going to come"

Bonnie McKee could have never predicted one trip to a vintage store would lead to having several No. 1 hits under her belt.

The singer-songwriter, whose new album Hot City is out now, was fresh off getting dropped from her first recording contract when she went to sell her clothes at Wasteland in Los Angeles — and met Katy Perry , with whom she'd go on to write five chart-topping songs.

"We met in line, and she was a fan of my first album," McKee tells PEOPLE, referring to 2004's Trouble . "We were fast friends, and then she ended up bringing me in on [her] second album, Teenage Dream ."

After attempting to launch her own career as an artist with Trouble , the "American Girl" musician had found herself down on her luck and turned to songwriting, crafting lyrics for stars like Elliott Yamin, Leighton Meester and Kelly Clarkson . But working with Perry and hitmakers Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald , Max Martin and Benny Blanco took McKee to the next level.

Together, she and Perry co-wrote "Teenage Dream," "Last Friday Night," "California Gurls," "Part of Me" and "Wide Awake" from the Teenage Dream era — all of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following the success, they linked back up to write the No. 1 hit "Roar" as well as "Birthday" and "Legendary Lovers" for Perry's 2013 Prism album.

"I suddenly went from being completely broke, not having a car, my cell phone turned off, not having hot water and digging for Taco Bell money to house-hunting in Hollywood Hills," recalls McKee. "It was really surreal."

Around the same time, she also co-wrote the Hot 100 chart-topper "Hold It Against Me" for Britney Spears and other global hits including Taio Cruz's "Dynamite," Rita Ora 's "How We Do (Party)" and Cheryl's "I Don't Care."

Looking back, McKee knows which No. 1 hits are her favorites: "It's a tie between 'Teenage Dream' and 'Roar.'"

Before crafting the track, the Grammy-nominated songwriter came up with the title of "Teenage Dream" and initially wanted to keep it for herself, as she was looking to get back into releasing her own music.

"It was kind of my 8 Mile moment, where I had to look in the mirror and be like, 'You only get one shot.' I was like, 'OK, I have a great idea, and I need to share this because I think it's going to take this on to the next level. I'm going to be a team player,'" McKee explains, "and then Katy and I wrote the rest together."

"Roar," on the other hand, was born out of a bonding session between McKee and Perry. "It's a feminist anthem, but it's also just a song for anyone who feels oppressed or not empowered in whatever situation they may be in," says the songwriter.

"The feedback that I've gotten about that song — people telling me help them get through the divorce, that it helped them be inspired to get in shape or it helped them through their battle in cancer, or whatever kind of heavy stuff — was incredibly powerful to hear, that it could have an impact on people like that," adds McKee. "So, for creative reasons I love 'Teenage Dream,' and for spiritual reasons I love 'Roar.'"

Given McKee's ambitions of writing and releasing music for herself at the time, she admittedly felt a little jealousy "in the beginning," as she watched her lyrics reach the top of the charts, but sung by Perry. However, such feelings faded as she realized the impact their work had on culture.

"Because I wasn't where Katy was at yet in my own career, I was like, 'This actually has a chance to live and to reach people.' And ultimately, that's what I want to do — reach and touch the most people that I can with my art," she says. "So I went very quickly from feeling kind of jealous to being like, 'This is amazing, and I'm just so grateful to be here. I'm so lucky to be a part of this,' because it ended up being a part pop culture history, and I couldn't have done that on my own."

McKee's since continued songwriting for other artists, including Bebe Rexha and Ava Max, but she's also gotten back to focusing on her own work with Hot City , her first full-length solo album since Trouble.

Perry, meanwhile, has been teasing her next era. Would McKee consider getting the powerhouse "Teenage Dream" duo back together to write more hits?

"I haven't gotten a call. If I got the call, I would answer, but it's also not something for me to invite myself to," she says. "Also, I think Katy and I have proven we're great together, and there's so many other incredible up-and-coming songwriters that also deserve to have a spot on a Katy Perry album."

McKee predicts the timing for her and Perry to write together ultimately may not have worked out, as she's been spending time working on Hot City while the "Never Really Over" singer makes her next album.

"I feel like Katy and I are kind of synced in that way. It's like, whenever she's putting something out, I'm also cooking something. It's really hard to do both at the same time, but I love Katy," she says. "I'm so excited to hear the new stuff that's going to come because I know some of the people that are working on it, and I think it's going to be great."
