Customer Reviews

What customers are saying about our Helicopter Experiences & Flying Lessons experiences

“ Fantastic experience ”

Our sightseeing tour flight over London was a fantastic experience and highly recommended. Very nice R66 helicopter. which only takes four passengers plus the pilot so great views all round, excellent pilot and very informative commentary about the fantastic views. Good facilities at the air park and hassle free parking and check in.

“ Bucket List ”

“ fabulous day ”.

Stayed at The County Hotel in Newcastle which included the money amazing breakfast. Then a helicopter tour the next day over the city. Excellent experience and I would highly recommend. The staff were second to none, friendly, helpful and funny.

Joanne Fisher

“ Amazing experience! ”

I've flew a plane, drove in a racecourse and jumped out of a plane but flying a helicopter topped all of that! The instructor was amazing and made sure you had the best existence. I would highly recommend!

Gill Grundy

Truly wonderful day, over the dreamy spires of Oxford and Blenheim Palace. The venue included a waiting room in a picturesque restaurant. Even my 89 year old mother in law enjoyed herself (it was an early 90th birthday treat).

Liza Chamberlain

“ Treated with first class experience immediately ”

Amazing tour across London, spending 50 minutes in the air. Everyone friendly, treated with care

Incredible views, wonderful staff!

“ Amazing experience from start to finish ”

My wife bought vouchers for myself and my brother to fly a helicopter which had been on both our bucket lists. From the moment we walked into the office at Heli Air in Gloucester we were out at ease and thoroughly enjoyed the entire session which lasted approximately 90 minutes. We were taken through the mechanical side and then taken on a flight where each of us took turns at controlling the aircraft. The pilot Matthew was welcoming, informative, made the entire experience what it was.

“ Bonham stay in Edinburgh ”

I’ve been asked to review a helicopter experience. Being well grounded I have to be honest. That wasn’t the experience and though we would have liked to book that one it wasn’t available at this time of year. I’m hoping to redeem that in the spring and ask Virgin to confirm that it has been extended for twelve months as previously confirmed following COVID restrictions Staying at the Behan was excellent. Food brilliant as was the service and comfort of the beautifully furnished surrounds.I

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it feel riding a helicopter.

Flying in a helicopter is known for being a truly exhilarating experience. The sensation of lifting off the ground and hovering in the air is unlike any other form of transportation. It’s worth noting that it might be a little less smooth than you might be used to in a commercial plane - but it's all part of the charm! It’s an incredible way to see the world from a unique vantage point, and absolutely worth trying at least once.

What should I wear on a helicopter ride?

For a helicopter ride, you should wear comfortable, layered clothing and closed-toe, flat-soled shoes or boots. Avoid loose clothing and anything that could get caught in the rotor blades. Make sure to factor in the weather and wear clothing that’s suitable for the time of year and the weather conditions, as airfields can be exposed places.

How much does it cost to ride a helicopter?

Helicopter rides can vary from as little as £50 to £1,000 - this will greatly depend on your party size, the length of your journey, and the nature of your flight (private, group, lesson, buzz flight etc). There are many different options to choose from, meaning you can find a helicopter ride for most budgets.

Israel carried out strike on Iran, US officials say

Manchester airport announces direct route to tiny european country with magical castles.

Manchester Airport has announced a new direct route to one of Europe’s smallest countries . Luxair has now launched flights between Manchester and Luxembourg.

The service will run three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. With a flight time of just under two hours, it’s the perfect destination for a long weekend away.

Announcing the route this week on X, formerly known as Twitter, Manchester Airport said: “@LuxairAirlines have officially landed at @manairport and are ready to whisk you away to #Luxembourg up to 3x weekly! T1 was buzzing with excitement, as passengers were greeted with balloons, light refreshments, cake and football scarves.”

Surrounded by Belgium, France and Germany, Luxembourg is the seventh smallest country in Europe, covering an area of 2,586 square kilometres. The capital city also shares the same name.

While it’s not a traditional tourist destination, Luxembourg offers a brilliant alternative if you’re looking for somewhere off the beaten track. The city itself is packed full of pretty buildings, while the old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Thanks to its compact size the city is easy to navigate and walkable. It’s actually split over two levels with ‘the Corniche’ offering spectacular views across the city and of the river that flows through it.

As you’d expect for a country in the heart of Europe, Luxembourg is home to dozens of magical castles, including the majestic Vianden Castle which sits atop a hill, perched above lush green forest. It's one of the largest fortified castles west of the Rhine and has an appearance reminiscent of Hogwarts from Harry Potter.

Luxembourg is also a perfect destination for outdoors-lovers. It boasts one of the densest networks of hiking trails in Europe which take you through its breathtaking countryside.

Politics latest: Rishi Sunak accused of 'full-on assault on disabled people' after welfare speech

As we have reported, Lord David Cameron is in Capri, Italy at the meeting of G7 foreign ministers.

The G7 is made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US, as well as the High Representative of the EU, and the foreign ministers have just released a joint communique on events in the Middle East.

They reiterate their condemnation "in the strongest terms" of Iran's attack on Israel on Saturday night, which they describe as "a dangerous escalation".

They also condemn the Iranian boarding and seizure of a Portuguese-flagged shipping vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, calling for its immediate release and that of its crew.

On the Middle East, they say: "Israel and its people have our full solidarity and support and we reaffirm our commitment towards Israel's security.

"Iran's actions mark an unacceptable step towards the destabilisation of the region and a further escalation, which must be avoided.

"In light of reports of strikes [by Israel on Iran] on April 19, we urge all parties to work to prevent further escalation."

The foreign ministers call on Iran to stop giving support to its proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, and that they "cease their attacks".

"We will hold the Iranian government accountable for its malicious and destabilising actions and we stand ready to adopt further sanctions or take other measures, now and in response to further destabilizing initiatives," they add.

Almost one million private renters in England have been handed no-fault evictions since the Conservative government promised to abolish them, new data has shown.

Research carried out by YouGov on behalf of homelessness charity Shelter - and shared exclusively with Sky News - showed that since April 2019 a total of 943,000 people had been given Section 21 notices, which is the equivalent of more than 500 renters every day.

The figures also showed unwanted moves were costing private renters in England £550m a year, with 830,000 people having to move in the last 12 months alone due to either their fixed tenancies coming to an end, being priced out by rent increases or being served with a Section 21.

Add in the soaring upfront costs for rents and deposits and unwanted moves are costing more than £1bn a year - or an average of £1,245 per person.

Polly Neate, Shelter's chief executive, said tenants were "bearing the cost of the government's inaction" and warned any further delays to banning no-fault evictions would see more people "tipped into homelessness".

But Levelling Up minister Jacob Young defended the government. He said abolishing Section 21s was "the biggest change to the private rented sector in more than 30 years" so it "takes time to make sure we get it right".

Over a year ago, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.

The union said it does "recognise the health benefits of good work, and that most people do want to work", but added that people who are unwell need "prompt care".

Dr Bramall-Stainer continued: "Further review of how fit notes are issued may relieve the administrative burden upon GPs to free up time to see more patients.

"Recent progress means issuing these notes can now be undertaken by other doctors as well as nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists."

But she also said that the size of NHS waiting lists mean "patients cannot get the treatment they need to be able to return to work".

"So rather than pushing a hostile rhetoric on 'sick note culture', perhaps the prime minister should focus on removing what is stopping patients from receiving the physical and mental healthcare they need, which in turn prevents them from going back to work."

We've just had a response to Rishi Sunak's speech on welfare reforms from disability charity Scope ( read the key points from the speech here ).

James Taylor, the charity's director of strategy, saying in a statement: "This feels like a full-on assault on disabled people. These proposals are dangerous and risk leaving disabled people destitute."

He said that during a cost of living crisis, suggesting cutting Personal Independence Payments (PIP) is a "horrific proposal".

He added that calls are "pouring in" to them from disabled people because they face extra costs of around £950 a month, and cutting their payments "isn't going to solve the problem of economic inactivity".

Mr Taylor continued: "Sanctions and ending claims will only heap more misery on people at the sharp end of our cost of living crisis.

"Much of the current record levels of inactivity are because our public services are crumbling, the quality of jobs is poor and the rate of poverty amongst disabled households is growing."

Finally, Rishi Sunak is asked if he has a direct message to Iran following its attack on Israel on Saturday night, and the Israeli response in the early hours of this morning.

The PM replies: "I would probably just echo what I've said before. I've been very clear - I just unequivocally condemn the dangerous escalation that they displayed over the weekend, condemned it in the strongest possible terms, and that's why we participated in an international effort over the weekend.

"Right now, everyone, calm heads should prevail. Any significant escalation in the region is not what anyone needs, it would not be in anyone's interests.

"But as I say, we're working now to establish the facts and the details of what happened overnight with our allies."

The prime minister is asked next about the situation facing Labour's deputy leader, Angela Rayner.

She is being investigated by Greater Manchester Police over what property was her main residence 10 years ago, before she was an MP, and whether she paid the correct tax on the profit from the sale of her ex-council home in Stockport (she denies any wrongdoing).

Ms Rayner previously called for ex-PM Boris Johnson to step down when he was under police investigation over partygate, and the PM is asked if Ms Rayner should do the same.

Rishi Sunak replies that he has made his point of view on the broader issue "clear".

"The question is actually for [Labour leader] Keir Starmer, and the question for Keir Starmer is why he's refusing to himself read the [legal] advice [given to Ms Rayner] that seems to exist, that has not been published, and make a decision on this."

He adds Sir Keir is displaying "a lack of leadership and weakness".

"There clearly are questions to answer. That's clear for everyone to see.

"And he, you know, rather than hiding behind his team, just actually read the advice himself, publish the advice and clear this up.

"Obviously, I'm not going to comment on an ongoing police investigation.

"But that's what I said on Wednesday, and that's what I think the right thing to do is."

Next, Rishi Sunak is asked what he would say to his critics who would describe it as immoral to remove benefits from the long-term unemployed, who could be left destitute.

He replies it's "important" to have an "honest" conversation about welfare, which "should always be a safety net and not a lifestyle choice".

At this point, around half a million people have been on unemployment benefits for six months, and a quarter of a million for 12 months, when there are around a million job vacancies, the PM says.

"These are people who don't have any medical condition that bars them from working," he says, and he says that is "not good for the economy" nor taxpayers.

In terms of their financial situation, the PM says moving from benefits to work makes people £7,000 a year better off.

He says it is "entirely reasonable and fair" for benefits to be cut off if someone does not take a job, having made full use of all the help and support to find one.

The Rwanda bill will finally be passed on Monday, Rishi Sunak has said.

Under the controversial plan, those arriving in the UK illegally will be sent to the African country for processing.

The prime minister said delays in getting the legislation onto the statute book were "frustrating" and claimed that "repeatedly, everyone has tried to block us getting this bill through".

He said: "Yet again, you saw it this week. You saw Labour peers blocking us again.

"Everyone's patience with this has run thin. Mine certainly has."

But he told reporters the end is drawing near.

"Our intention now is to get this done on Monday," he said.

"No more prevarication, no more delay.

"We are going to get this done on Monday and we will sit there and vote until it's done."

Mr Sunak said it is vital to have a deterrent against illegal migration because it is the "only way to resolve this issue".

And getting flights off to Rwanda is the way to "build that deterrent", he said.

The PM commented: "If you care about stopping the boats [coming across the English Channel] you've got to have a deterrent.

"You've got to have somewhere that you can send people so they know that if they come here illegally, they won't get to stay.

"It's as simple as that.

"The bill is the way we're going to deliver that."

Next, Rishi Sunak is asked if Mark Menzies MP should quit as an MP.

As we've reported, the MP for Fylde in Lancashire has been suspended from the Tory parliamentary party in light of allegations he abused local party funds to pay off "bad people".

Mr Menzies strongly disputes the claims, which also include accusations he used campaign funds to pay his personal medical bills.

Mr Sunak says: "It's right that Mark Menzies has resigned the Conservative whip. He's been suspended from his position as a trade envoy whilst the investigations into those allegations continue.

"For our part, I can't comment on our ongoing investigation while it's happening, and he's no longer a Conservative MP."

According to The Times newspaper, the Tory party has been investigating the allegations against Mr Menzies for three months, and so Mr Sunak is asked why the whip wasn't removed sooner.

But he declines to comment, saying it is an "ongoing investigation".

The PM is also asked if it is right to put such a vast additional burden on Job Centre staff who already have a vast workload.

Mr Sunak replies that work coaches do "a fantastic job" and are "transforming people's lives" by getting people back into work.

He says the government has invested "literally billions of pounds" in recent years to support work coaches.

He acknowledges there is more work to do to, and the systems will "only improve over time".

'Flightseeing': Get a helicopter tour right from your cruise

S KJOLJUNGEN FJORD, Greenland – Zodiac rides, kayaks, paddleboards and e-bikes have long been part of the activities on expedition cruise ships.

But passengers on high-end ships are now asking for more expensive toys to play with – namely onboard submarines and helicopters.

Seabourn, Viking and Scenic are three cruise lines that recently added submarines to some of their expedition ships. The latter also has onboard helicopters complete with helipads on its two “ultra-luxury yachts” – Scenic Eclipse I and Eclipse II.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Watching the scenery in a remote polar region slowly glide by from a ship’s deck can be captivating. Experiencing it at speeds exceeding 100 mph from the skies above is downright exhilarating.

Indeed, a 30-minute “flightseeing” helicopter ride over a glacier and remote ice sheet in eastern Greenland was one of the highlights of my recent 12-day Arctic cruise on the Scenic Eclipse II, a 220-passenger ship that made its inaugural voyage in April.

Bring the bikini, leave the kids: 4 things to know about sailing with Virgin Voyages

Here's what it costs to take a helicopter ride on a cruise

The Eclipse II’s sister ship, Scenic Eclipse I, debuted in 2019. It has a sub and two helicopters. The Eclipse II also has two helicopters – a sub will be brought on board in October, in time for its Antarctica sailings that begin in early December. The oceangoing ships are two of the newest additions to the Australia-based cruise line’s fleet, which also includes 15 riverboats.

Scenic bills itself as offering its passengers “all-inclusive luxury.” Sightseeing tours, all specialty restaurants, drinks, gratuities and airport transfers are included in the fare, which can exceed $1,000 per person per day, depending on the itinerary and choice of cabin.

Submarine and helicopter rides are optional add-ons that cost more. A lot more.

A half-hour helicopter ride costs $795 per person. Sub rides cost $350-$795, depending on the region and if it’s a 20- or 40-minute dive.

Despite the hefty price tag, Jason Flesher, Scenic’s director of Discovery Operations, says the helicopters and subs have proven to be “extremely popular” with passengers.

“We have many guests fly and dive multiple times during their voyage,” he says, adding that the excursions “give our guests the full perspective of their surroundings.”

Over half of the ship’s 140 passengers signed up for helicopter rides on my sailing. Our pilot, Pascal Fischer, told me that on Antarctic sailings, the percentage of passengers taking helicopter rides usually hovers around 80%.

“You can go 20 miles from the ship, and the world looks totally different, especially in places we go like the Arctic and Antarctica,” says Fischer. “You may even see places that no human ever saw before because we are in such remote areas.”

Exploring Greenland by cruise ship and helicopter

Greenland, the world’s largest island, is a semiautonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. It’s three times the size of Texas, yet its population is only 56,000, making it the least densely populated territory in the world.

You can’t get much more remote than eastern Greenland, where few cruise ships go, and there are only a handful of tiny fishing settlements. We saw no other signs of human civilization during our four days exploring that region.  However, we did see plenty of blue and humpback whales, seals and other marine life.

On the gloriously sunny 50-degree day of my helicopter ride, the Eclipse II was anchored in the Skjoljungen Fjord in southeastern Greenland. I walked up to the ship’s helipad at the stern on Deck 8 – one floor above where I had eaten breakfast that morning in the Yacht Club restaurant – for a 10-minute safety briefing.

Three fellow passengers and I were fitted with lifejackets and given noise-canceling headphones so we could hear Fischer’s descriptions of what we would be seeing during the flight. We were then escorted to one of the Eclipse II’s two $3.5 million Airbus H130 helicopters. Each helicopter can carry a maximum of six passengers and a pilot. I was in the middle seat but still enjoyed unobstructed views of the remote landscape.

We flew over the magnificent Thrym Glacier and then banked west between jagged peaks for a look at Greenland’s pristine ice sheet, which covers about 80 percent of the territory. With the noise-canceling headphones, the 40-mile trip was surprisingly tranquil and smooth. Never have 30 minutes passed by so quickly.

As we landed back on the ship’s helipad, I wondered why the Eclipse II needs two helicopters instead of just one.  Fischer explained it’s primarily for safety reasons.

53 days at sea: You can spend two months exploring Japan, more for $8K on this cruise

“It could be you get a warning light that tells you you have to land now. And then you land. So we have a second helicopter that can pick up the passengers and bring them back to the ship,” says Fischer, who has been flying helicopters for 25 years, including seven years as an air ambulance pilot in Arizona.

Additionally, the second helicopter helps ensure that every passenger who wants to fly has the opportunity. On a busy day – when the weather conditions are ideal for flying – Fischer says the two choppers can carry up to 96 people.

“Normally, we are able to fly everyone who wants to go, unless we have a cruise that lasts 10 days, and we just have 10 days of bad weather,” says Fischer. “It’s not often that we aren’t able to fly everyone who wants to fly.”

As helicopters are so new on ships, the cruise lines are still figuring out how best to integrate them with on-land activities. For instance, Scenic recently started offering excursions that take passengers on helicopter rides to go skiing, hiking, fishing, or – in Mediterranean ports – play a round of golf.

A helicopter excursion in Antarctica takes passengers to see 5,000 breeding pairs of emperor penguins on Snow Hill Island – a spot only accessible by helicopter.

Some cruises also offer submarine rides

Scenic’s two submarines, named Neptune I and Neptune II, carry six to eight passengers plus a pilot. The U-Boat Worx sub on the Eclipse I is capable of submerging 984 feet, although it typically dives only about one-third of that depth for safety reasons and a better viewing experience.

The Eclipse II will have a Triton sub, capable of submerging 600 feet. The cruise line says the battery-powered subs don’t emit hazardous substances and pose no danger to aquatic life.

Fittingly, the Eclipse II was christened in June by Kathy Sullivan, a geologist and oceanographer who was the first American woman to complete a spacewalk for NASA. She’s also traveled to the deepest depths of the ocean, earning her the title “World’s Most Vertical Person.”

We started the cruise in Reykjavik, Iceland, the world’s northernmost capital city, before sailing across the Denmark Strait to the southeastern coast of Greenland.

Four days were spent exploring the region’s many fjords, glaciers and icebergs up close on eight-passenger Zodiacs driven by members of the ship’s 17-person expedition team, consisting of naturalists, botanists, marine biologists and a historian. The Eclipse II then transited the Prince Christian Sound in southern Greenland before cruising along the territory’s west coast. There, we visited Nuuk, Greenland’s largest town (population 20,000).

All told, we covered 2,600 miles during the voyage.

It’s not easy to get to Greenland as there are no direct flights to/from North America. To get home at the end of the cruise, we took a four-hour Air Greenland flight from Kangerlussuaq Airport to Copenhagen for an overnight hotel stay before flying home to the U.S. the following day.

Needless to say, while the jets that took us home flew much higher and faster, they couldn’t come close to matching the thrill and excitement of a helicopter ride over one of the most remote places on the planet.

A look at taylor swift’s economic power ahead of ‘the tortured poets department’ release.

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Taylor Swift is continuing her lucrative legacy with the release of her 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," out Friday at midnight.

Swift commands a fiercely dedicated fan base — one that helps her break streaming records, crashes websites, and sells out major stadiums across the world. Her latest album is expected to draw that same burning enthusiasm from fans, yet again.

It'll be an extension of her legacy not just as a pop superstar, but also as a businessperson.

Swift proved just how much economic power she wields in 2023. Tickets for her career-defining "Eras" tour sold out almost immediately, fans splurged on merchandise while attending her concerts, the film of her tour broke box office records in its opening weekend, and Swift herself became a billionaire along the way.

Swift achieved remarkable feats that would be impressive for any typical business leader running a Fortune 500 company. She provided an excellent case study of understanding your customers and giving them what they want.

"She's a powerhouse, business-wise," Armen Shaomian, an associate professor of sport and entertainment management at the University of South Carolina, told CNN.

Here's a look at Swift's booming track record as a businessperson.

taylor swift

The commercially successful 'Eras' tour

The Eras tour was massively successful in 2023 and it'll stretch through the end of this year. StubHub said Swift's tour "was the biggest" in the ticket company's two-decade history, outpacing other successful acts in terms of ticket sales.

"Taylor Swift wasn't just performing; she was rewriting the playbook, leaving a trail of glitter, economic stimuli and friendship bracelets wherever she went," the company's year-end report said.

Swift herself hasn't released official sales figures, but some estimates show the tour is already raking in 10 figures. Pollstar estimated that the tour's first 60 shows grossed more than $1 billion.

An analysis shared exclusively with CNN last year projected that Swift's shows in North America alone could bring in more than $2 billion in revenue, making it the highest-grossing tour ever.

Swift's gravitational pull was so strong that fans were aggressively bidding up ticket prices on the re-sale market. SeatGeek previously told CNN the average resale price of an "Eras" ticket was $1,607, up 741% from her "Reputation" tour in 2018, for which the average resale ticket price was $191.

She is a generous boss, too, awarding $100,000 bonuses to Eras Tour truck drivers during the summer.

The tour itself was like a traveling ball of economic activity, crisscrossing through major American cities as fans descended with cash burning holes through their wallets.

Hotel rooms in cities hosting Eras shows filled up fast , retailers said they got a boost from concertgoers seeking clothes to match the tour's theme, and a Federal Reserve report even noted how the tour boosted hotel revenue in Philadelphia, according to one business in the survey.

Taylor Swift

Swift's business acumen

What really highlights Swift's business acumen is how the singer capitalized on that burning enthusiasm to drive even more sales. Electrified fans opened their wallets to snap up shirts, sweaters, hats, posters and other kinds of merchandise exhibiting the singer in all her glory.

"The merchandising aspect of the tour was so important because it allowed fans to bring home some of that experience since it's all about the memories," Shaomian of the University of South Carolina said.

"Fans were lining up hours before the arena even opened because the merchandise was set up in a different area and they wanted first dibs on buying. Even if only a quarter of those people bought something, that's easily at least a million dollars a night," he said.

That's on top of merchandise available online. From guitar picks to nail gems, Swift gave her ardent fans another reason to spend more, and spend they did.

Swift's business strategy went beyond the concert stage to the big screen, again capitalizing on the already-feverish hype for the singer and her signature tour.

The singer-songwriter released a film of last year's shows in mid-October, titled "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour." The film raked in a staggering $96 million in its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, according to movie theater chain AMC. That made it the highest grossing concert film domestically for an opening weekend.

"It took less than 24 hours for the Taylor Swift The Eras Tour concert film to shatter AMC's US record for the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in AMC's 103-year history," AMC said at the time.

And what business leader doesn't benefit from some good publicity?

In addition to countless other news stories, Swift was named Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2023, an honor usually reserved for changemakers such as Barack Obama, Angela Merkel and Pope Francis.

"It feels like the breakthrough moment of my career, happening at 33," Swift told Time. "And for the first time in my life, I was mentally tough enough to take what comes with that."
