The best way to experience any historic district is on a guided tour. We met local guide Rich Fletcher at Jefferson Park for our first walking tour through the Courthouse Hill Historic District. This 30-block area on the city of Janesville's east side is made up of late 19th century and early 20th century homes.
Lincoln Tallman House
A Rock County icon, the Lincoln-Tallman House museum originally was the residence of the William Tallman family from 1857 to 1915. Operating as a historic house museum since 1951, the Lincoln-Tallman House has evolved into a site that can offer a traditional museum experience while providing its spaces for everyday use by the community.

Eventually donated the property and adjacent hones added later to the city of Janesville to be a museum. A middle class 1840s home was moved nearby and offers an interesting contrast. The historical society building also showcases local manufacturers Parker Pens and Packard China. Tours are guided only for the house and start on the hour.
