Stepping into a whole new world

Day 1 of your tour in Lakshadweep will smack you in the face with awe-inspiring sights. After landing at Agatti Airport, you will be picked up and taken to your hotel via a short road trip to so you can check-in. The whole day is there to be spent at your leisure, although it’s hard to imagine you’ll want to do anything other than kick-off your footwear and take a barefoot stroll over the sandy beaches, right into near the fantasy-like lagoon of Agatti Island. Even as far as 500 metres in, the water level won’t rise higher than your knees. All-in-all, this day is best spent taking in these vivid, new surroundings. So put your feet up and relax, while you spend your first night on Agatti island.

Once breakfast is done, the second day of the tour is for the exploration of your host island of Agatti, interacting with the people, and understanding their customs. The culture here, such as music and dance, does display that Islamic influence. It also shares similarities with Kerala’s culture, given that Kerala is the closest state on the Indian mainland. Lava is a form of dance performed by the male residents of the Lakshadweep islands during festivals. Another form of dance that is part of the island’s traditions is Parichakali, which is sort of a blend of traditional dancing with martial arts. Handicraft items found in these parts are made of locally present corals, shells and oysters, all of which are used to make various ornaments and jewelry. Visitors may purchase these items if they wish to. The day ends with an overnight stay right here on Agatti Island.

A boat to the uninhabited

The day begins with breakfast, after which you’ll hop onto a boat for a jaunt to the uninhabited islands of Bangaram and Thinnakara. You’ll have the pleasure of witnessing dolphins and turtles swimming around in their natural habitats on your way there. Thinnakara Island nearby also offers similarly mesmerizing seascapes, with bioluminescent plankton dwelling in its surroundings. After sipping some tea and enjoying the evening, the tour returns to Agatti island for an overnight stay.

Once lunchtime rolls around and you’ve had a hearty meal, we’re off on another boat ride to Kalpitty Island. It is another one of Lakshadweep’s uninhabited islands which should take about 45 minutes to reach. We’ll spend the afternoon on this island, till we get to see a particularly stunning sight of the sunset. As the sun goes down, we return to Agatti Island for an overnight stay.

If you’re not to keen on going deep into the water, but still want a glimpse of life under the sea, snorkeling is for you. Day 1 bangalore/ kochi to agatti, overnight in thinnakara island.

Take the flight from Kochi or Bangalore to Agatti
A car will come to the airport to take you to the jetty, from where you will be taken to Thinnakara Island
After lunch, take a pleasant evening walk in the Island, which will take less than 2 hours. There are no roads, villages or villagers…just a relaxing walk on the white sand along the edge of the island.
Don’t miss stargazing at night. You might even be able to spot the Milky Way on a clear night.

Day 2 Turtle Watching and Snorkelling

After breakfast, enjoy snorkelling at the shipwreck site. Watch the colourful corals and fishes all around. This is one of the best experiences you will have in the island.
After lunch, go island hopping to the pristine Parali 1 and Parali 2, which are tiny uninhabited island joined by a thin strip of white sand. While returning watch thousands of turtles swim around your boat.
Overnight Stay in Thinnakara.

Day 3 Visit to Bangaram Island

Today you can try snorkelling in the area between Bangaram and Thinnakara Island. You can carry some food for the fishes so that they come near you! You can also go for scuba diving in the reputed PADI Certified Dive Centres of Lakshadweep.
After lunch, you can visit Bangaram Island which serves as an ideal place to just get a good sunset view and laze around. Walk towards the helipad area to enjoy a vast stretch of white sand amidst turquoise green clear water. You can also try water scooter and canoeing in the placid and picturesque lagoons surrounding the island.
Overnight stay in Thinnakara

Day 4 Towards Kadmat

Today after breakfast, sail to a different island – Kadmat. The Island has AC Beach Resorts.
Once you reach the island, you can either relax on the beach resort or walk around the place. Unlike Thinnakara and Bangaram, Kadmat island is inhabited by villagers.

Day 5 Enjoy in the islands

In Kadmat you can indulge in diving and other water sport activities. Kadmat is a very scenic island. If you are in Kadmat, you should not miss the stunning sunset from the Beach Resort

Day 6 Towards Kavaratti and Enjoy Water Sports Activities

After breakfast move to Kavaratti. The administrative capital of Lakshadweep.
In Kavaratti you can indulge in diving and other water sport activities like lagoon fishing, banana boat ride, speed boating, snorkeling, rowing, kayaking, glass boat ride for non swimmers.
Kavaratti is a very scenic island. If you are in Kavaratti, you should not miss the stunning sunset from the Helipad. To enjoy the view of the island, do travel to the lighthouse.
Kavaratti is especially renowned for Scuba Diving and the spectacular Dive Sites.

Day 7 Scuba Diving !

Day 01 – (Flight from Bangalore/Cochin to Agatti and stay at Agatti Island)

09.10 A.M : Flight from Cochin to Agatti (Flight: Air-India)

10.35 A.M : Arrival at Agatti

After reaching Agatti Airport our representative will receive you and will make road transfer to the hotel, after welcome drink our resort team will assist you to the room and after lunch you can relax in the beach or you can go for a walk in the island.

Day 02–(Agatti – Banagaram sandbank trip by Boat come back to Agatti via Thinnakara Island)

After breakfast will make a boat transfer to Thinnakara island (please note this trip takes 45 min travel by sea), on the you can watch the dolphin & green turtles. At Thinnakara you can go for free swimming or you can do some water games.

Lunch will be provided in the beach of Thinnakara and a short break our boat will bring you to near by sandbanks. Evening tea will be provided at Thinnakara island. After a short relax, evening will proceed to Agatti island. Night stay at Agatti.

Day 03 –(Water Sports & Sightseeing at Agatti Island)

This is the exclusive day for water games (optional) at Agatti.

After noon you can go for sightseeing of Agatti Island, special places like, eastern side embarkation jetty, Sea water thermal desalination plant, lagoon Beach Archeological museum etc…

Day 04– (Arrival at Cochin- final Day)

This is the final day of the Lakshadweep package, after breakfast we will make transfer from Agatti resort to airport for a return flight to Cochin.

After reaching at Agatti airport our representative will receives you & will make a speed vessel transfer (3 hrs) to Kavaratti island. Our resort team will receive you with welcome drink and after lunch you can relax in the beach or you can go for a walk in the island.

Day 2: Kavaratti Island sightseeing

Afternoon guest can go for sightseeing (3 hr) at Kavaratti island, special places like, embarkation jetty, lagoon beach, museum etc.

Day 3: Agatti Sightseeing

After the breakfast check out Kavaratti resort and transfer to the Agatti resort by speed vessel, after reaching Agatti our resort team will receive you with welcome drink.

After noon you can go for sightseeing (3 hr) at Agatti island, special places like, eastern side embarkation jetty, sea water thermal desalination plant, lagoon beach etc

Day 4: Bangaram sandbank & Thinakara island trip

Lunch will be provided in the beach of Thinnakara and a short break our boat will bring you to near by sandbanks of Bangaram. Tea-snacks will be provided in the boat itself. After a short relax, evening will proceed to Agatti island.

Night stay at Agatti.

Day 5: Departure day

After the breakfast check out resort after transfer to the Agatti airport for a return flight to Cochin & back to home with beautiful memories.

Lakshadweep Trip 101: Your guide to 5 days of sun, sand and fun

A s soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pictures from his Lakshadweep visit surfaced on social media, Google search for this destination skyrocketed. Lakshadweep is a tropical archipelago consisting of 36 islands (one has been lost to sea erosion) in the Laccadive Sea, off the Malabar coast in India.

While the picturesque islands of Lakshadweep are being pitched as a pocket-friendly alternative to the Maldives , the tension between India and the Maldives has also taken centre stage.

So, while the world (especially India) is zeroing in on Lakshadweep as their next getaway, how exactly do you get to Lakshadweep?

How to reach

This popular beach destination can be reached via water and air. As per the official website of the Union Territory, Lakshadweep can be reached by ship and flights, operated from Kochi (Cochin), Kerala.

By air: Air tickets from places like Delhi or Mumbai to Kochi may cost around Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 per person (one way).

Only the Agatti island in Lakshadweep has an airstrip. The flight from Kochi to Agatti takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes.
As of now, only Alliance Air operates between Kochi and Agatti.
The air ticket may cost between Rs 5,500 to Rs 6,000 per person (one way).
You can also take a flight from Bengaluru to Lakshadweep via Kochi . The tickets may cost between Rs 7,000 to Rs 25,000 for one person (one way).

By bus and ferry: Apart from this, you can also take a bus to Ernakulam in Kochi from Bengaluru, then reach the Willingdon island jetty via taxi and take the ferry to Kavaratti, which is the capital of Lakshadweep.

By ship: As per the government website of Lakshadweep Tourism, seven passenger ships – MV Kavaratti, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea, MV Lagoon, MV Corals, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy, operate between Kochi and Lakshadweep islands.

The journey may take around 14 to 18 hours, depending on the island chosen.
The ship tickets can be booked online through the official website.
You can also book the Lakshadweep Samudram package for the trip.
If you prefer luxury, you can also take the Cordelia Cruises ship.
A five-night package from Mumbai to Lakshadweep via Kochi may cost between Rs 93,541 and Rs 1,13,461 (per person), depending on the room category.

Where to stay

You can book your stay through the official website of Lakshadweep tourism . The islands of Bangaram, Kadmat, Kavaratti and Thinnakkara all have accommodation options on the government website.

You will get several room types to choose from. However, the booking is subject to availability.

One can also connect with the property directly to make a booking.

Here are the room options and their per-night cost.

Bangaram Island Resort : For an air-conditioned cottage, you'll have to spend Rs 18,000 per night on single or double occupancy (all inclusive).

You can also get a wooden hut here by spending Rs 24,000 (per night, all inclusive) on single and double occupancy.

Kadmat Island Resort : For a non-AC room, you'll have to spend Rs 5,000 for double occupancy and Rs 3,000 for single occupancy per night. The range goes up to Rs 11,000 for double occupancy and Rs 8,000 for single occupancy if you choose the super deluxe AC room.
Kavaratti Island Resort : The only option available here is an air-conditioned suite. It is priced at Rs 11,000 per night on single and double occupancy.
Thinnakkara Island Resort : You will get to stay in a non-AC tent here. It will cost you Rs 10,000 for double occupancy, and Rs 8,000 for single occupancy per night.

How much does it cost?

Is visiting Lakshadweep expensive? It depends on your budget.

You will have to spend around Rs 60,000 to Rs 1,50,000 (including airfare) per head for a five-day trip.

You can also check travel packages available on different online portals for visiting this destination. These packages may cost between Rs 25,000 to Rs 1,00,000.

What to do in Lakshadweep

Snorkelling at Agatti island

Best time to visit

As per Lakshadweep tourism's website, the best time to visit this destination is from October to mid-May.

While the resorts in Lakshadweep are open throughout the year, commuting via ship gets difficult during monsoon (mid-May to September).

Now, here's a 5-day Lakshadweep itinerary.

Day 1

Arrive in Kochi.
You can head directly to Lakshadweep by taking a flight to Agatti, and stay at a pre-booked hotel in Bangaram.
Reach Bangaram via boat from Agatti. Two-way inter-island transfers may range from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 per person.
Take the first day slow, and settle in at your hotel.
Try water activities like boating, kayaking, fishing, snorkelling and more in Bangaram.
Spend the night in Bangaram.
Head to Kavaratti and stay at a pre-booked hotel there.
A boat is the best medium for inter-island transfer.
Try water activities in Kavaratti.
Head to Kadmat island, a popular nesting spot for marine turtles.
Stay at a pre-booked hotel in Kadmat.
Enjoy the island and try water activities.
Head back to Agatti from Kadmat.
Fly back to Kochi and then to your destination.

Now, the most important thing to keep in mind when visiting Lakshadweep:

You will require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to visit Lakshadweep. You can apply for the same through the e-permit portal of the Lakshadweep Administration.
The permit is valid for 30 days from the date of issue and the fee is Rs 300 per person.
Non-Indians must obtain a mandatory Rs 300 entry permit.
A Green Tax of Rs 300 per person is charged upon arrival at Agatti airport.
ATM and credit card facilities are limited in Lakshadweep, so make sure you carry enough cash. Set aside some for tipping.
Lakshadweep is ecologically fragile; so, responsible travel is of the utmost importance.
