The world's busiest cruise port, now with the world's largest ship (RCL's Icon of the Seas) docked in one of it's terminals. PortMiami is big enough to have a numbering system for it's terminals, each usually associated with a major cruise line. We had sailed once before from Miami on Norwegian out of Terminal B (plus that's what their website tells you and nothing in our pre-cruise documentation told us the specific terminal), so took a Lyft (about $20) from South Beach to get to our boat, the Norwegian Joy. Traffic was llght, so we came relatively early (around 9:45am) on a Thursday, and Terminal B was bustling with traffic. People were still disembarking and trying to get transportation to leave. We got dropped off, and then tried to bag check our luggage with a nearby porter. That's when he realized we were at the wrong terminal, and advised that we needed to go to Terminal C (usually a MSC port, but used today since the Norwegian Gem was docked at B). You are not meant to go between terminals on foot, but we were able to walk through traffic to arrive (it would have been very difficult with heavy luggage). It took asking questions to workers to know where to go to 1) drop off your tagged luggage and 2) get in line to enter the ship. I don't remember Terminal B as being complicated, but that could just be me. There is someone who is checking to make sure you are supposed to get on the Joy, and also checked that we had passports ready. We then needed to go through security (similar to an airport with x-ray machine and metal detectors). We then got into the regular line to wait for next available agent to check our passports and give us our ID cards (which is also used as room key). That whole process took about 20 minutes, and we were then directed to a series of waiting rooms. We were early, so were given Boarding Group 1. The front of the waiting area didn't have much empty seating, so we chose to sit further back. At this time, it wasn't too crowded. Soon after, the intercom (which is hard to hear when folks around are talking) let us know that we wouldn't be able to board until 12:30 or so, we bunkered down for 2 1/2 hours. When boarding time came, people began to line up near the front. The folks who are staying in the first class part of the boat (the Haven) were able to line up and board through a dedicated tunnel. That took a while, but it made sense. The next group were for the folks who had status with Norwegian (Sapphire and above)...they had to go through the normal entrance. It ended up being the herd of people trying all to move forward, taking up every available space, but also letting folks with wheelchairs and walkers to go through as well. It was really messy, and I heard more than one person muttering that there needed to be a better way. That being said, the employees tried their best to maintain order, and they strictly enforced the boarding zone by number once you got to the front. Everything else went pretty quickly, and we were able to find a place to settle in while our room was made ready. Considering how many people were involved, things turned out OK, but I can't help but wonder if there is a better way to organize people. Most people just want to understand what the rules are, and will completely adhere to it, as long as it is being followed (and enforced) by everyone.

What are the best cruises from Miami? It’s a tough question to answer, in part because there are so many choices.

Miami has long been the cruise capital of the world, and even though it recently has been challenged by nearby Port Canaveral for the title of world’s busiest cruise port, it still offers one of the most diverse mixes of options when it comes to ships and itineraries.

Many of the world’s biggest cruise lines operate sailings from Miami, in some cases with multiple ships. On any given day, there can be as many as seven different cruise vessels sailing from the port.

The large number of options means that there’s a little something for everyone when it comes to Miami cruises. That’s great because the best Miami cruise for you may not be the same as the best cruise out of Miami for someone else, depending on your travel style.

Here we list our top picks for the best cruises from Miami for five different types of travelers.

Best cruises for families: Icon of the Seas

Quite a few family-friendly ships call Miami home, including vessels operated by such family cruise leaders as Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line. However, when it comes to the best cruises from Miami for families, there’s never been anything quite like the voyages in the works for Royal Caribbean’s soon-to-arrive-in-Miami Icon of the Seas .

Scheduled to debut in Miami in January 2024 and already available to book, the 5,610-passenger Icon of the Seas will be the biggest cruise ship in the world — more than 6% bigger than the biggest cruise vessel currently at sea.

That means it has more space than any other ship at sea for children’s clubs, waterslides, watery play areas and other family fun zones.

But it’s not just Icon of the Seas’ larger size that will make its sailings the best cruises out of Miami for families. The cruise line has designed the vessel — the first of a new class of ships — specifically to cater to families in a bigger way .

Icon of the Seas will offer more cabins with extra bunks to accommodate families with multiple children, including new room designs. Some family suites will even feature separate rooms for the little ones.

Many of these family-friendly accommodations will be near a new-for-the-line outdoor “neighborhood” called Surfside, which is dedicated to families with young children. As announced late last year, Surfside will feature splash areas for babies and kids, pools and lounge spaces for parents, family-friendly eateries and shops, and a bar with “mommy and me” matching mocktails for kids and cocktails for grownups.

The water park that Royal Caribbean plans for Icon of the Seas will be the largest ever built on a cruise ship. It will feature a record six top-deck waterslides and an unusual-for-Royal Caribbean ropes course. Teens and tweens have never had it so good.

Come January, Icon of the Seas will take the place of Royal Caribbean’s family-friendly Harmony of the Seas in Miami. If you’re looking for the best cruise out of Miami for families between now and January 2024, Harmony of the Seas is our pick. It’s almost as big as Icon of the Seas and similarly loaded with family-friendly attractions.

That said, if you’re a diehard Disney fan, be advised that the best family cruise from Miami for you is probably not a voyage on Icon of the Seas or Harmony of the Seas but one of the seasonal sailings that Disney Cruise Line offers out of Miami on the 1,754-passenger Disney Magic.

Unlike the Royal Caribbean ships, it’s not a new vessel with all the latest bells and whistles. In fact, it’s the oldest ship in the Disney fleet, dating to the 1990s. But it’s, well … a Disney ship. And if you’re a Disney lover, that’s probably all you need to know.

Best cruises for adults: Scarlet Lady

As of October 2021, the uncontested best cruises from Miami for adults are the four- and five-night sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean offered on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady. That’s the month the new cruise line launched, promising to shake things up in the cruise world with a lively, adult-focused onboard experience unlike anything else in cruising.

Specifically designed for adults only — no children under the age of 18 are allowed on board — the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady is all about grownup fun. We’re talking everything from rollicking dance parties to a drag show.

Notably, Scarlet Lady offers many stylish, adult-oriented nightspots and bars, creating a hopping scene late into the night. Passengers are able to shake their phones to have Champagne delivered to wherever they happen to be standing, get inked at an onboard tattoo parlor and belt out tunes in a colorful karaoke lounge .

Unlike some other cruise lines, Virgin Voyages also eschews buffets, dress codes and big Broadway-style theater shows. In place of the latter, the line offers such entertainment as dance parties, DJ sets and unconventional performances in a multi-purpose room.

While initially dubbed the “cruise line for millennials” in media coverage, Virgin Voyages was designed to appeal to not just young adults but older adults who are “young at heart,” executives have said. In its first two year of operations, it’s been drawing passengers in a wide range of ages .

Best cruises for budget travelers: MSC Seascape

For years, the low-cost ships of Carnival Cruise Line were the go-to vessels for the best cruises out of Miami for budget travelers. But Carnival’s Miami-based ships have had new competition for the title in recent years from the even-lower-cost vessels of MSC Cruises — a fast-growing line that has been taking the Miami market by storm.

Our take is that the MSC Cruises ships sailing from Miami — particularly the just-out-of-the-shipyard-new MSC Seascape — are now the vessels to book if you’re looking for the best value in cruises from Miami.

Based in Miami year-round, the 4,550-passenger MSC Seascape operates alternating seven-night voyages to the Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean that sometimes sell for as little as $399 per person — or just $57 per day.

That’s a pretty amazing fare when you consider that it covers not just your room but meals on the ship, too.

The ship’s Eastern Caribbean sailings typically are priced a tad lower than its Western Caribbean sailings (when we were pricing them for this guide, they started about $30 per person lower). The Eastern Caribbean trips call at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Nassau, Bahamas; and Ocean Cay , MSC Cruises’ private island in the Bahamas. The Western Caribbean voyages stop at Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Cayman Islands; Cozumel, Mexico; and Ocean Cay.

What’s striking about these low-priced sailings on MSC Seascape is that the ship is one of the newest and snazziest operating out of the Port of Miami, having just been unveiled in November 2022. Often, the lowest-cost cruises in any cruise port are on the oldest ships sailing from the port — vessels that don’t have the latest and greatest when it comes to onboard attractions and amenities.

Eighteen decks high and more than 1,100 feet long, MSC Seascape is loaded with family-friendly attractions, including multiple waterslides, a giant kiddie splash zone with a pirate ship theme and a robotic thrill ride. The latter, called Robotron , will flip you upside down and around as you dangle over the side of the ship.

MSC Seascape also offers 11 dining venues, 20 bars and lounges, a bustling casino, a sprawling spa and a showroom for big production shows.

Plus, there’s a giant “ship-within-a-ship” luxury zone loaded with suites and a private lounge and restaurant — one only accessible to well-heeled passengers who pay up for access. With fares for its rooms nearly 10 times higher than the starting rates for the ship’s basic cabins, The Yacht Club, as it’s called, is not a budget option. However, if you’ve got money to burn, you can check in here and feel like you’re living the high life.

In short, MSC Seascape is a big, bustling megaresort at sea of the sort operated by Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival. If it’s big ships with lots of activities you love, it’s a good choice if your budget is tight.

MSC Cruises has two other vessels based seasonally in Miami: MSC Magnifica and MSC Divina. MSC Magnifica mostly operates short three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. MSC Divina operates a wide mix of three- to 18-night sailings to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Best cruises for solo travelers: Norwegian Encore

The best cruises from Miami for solo travelers are those offered on Norwegian Cruise Line ‘s 3,998-passenger Norwegian Encore , as well as its sister vessels, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Escape.

This is largely because Norwegian Encore and its sister ships boast unusually large private zones for solo travelers — something you won’t find on the Miami-based vessels operated by Norwegian’s main competitors.

The so-called “studio” zones on Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Escape — vessels that all are part of the line’s recently unveiled Breakaway-Plus class of ships — have 82 special solo cabins apiece and a private Studio Lounge where solos can gather for happy hours and other events.

One other Norwegian ship that sometimes sails out of Miami, Norwegian Breakaway, has a similar solo zone with 59 cabins.

Only the studio zone on Norwegian’s 2010-built Norwegian Epic is bigger, but that ship doesn’t sail out of Miami.

A special zone for solo travelers is a concept that is rare in the cruise world, where almost all rooms for vacationers are designed for two people and sold with per-person fares that are based on two people occupying the room.

Solos staying in the solo cabins on the above vessels get exclusive access to the Studio Lounge (using their keycards), meaning a maximum of 59 to 82 people will share the space.

The solo cabins in the zones are small (measuring 100 square feet) but are superbly designed to maximize storage space (something I learned firsthand staying in one on Norwegian Epic).

Solos on Norwegian Encore and its sister ships also will find a bustling bar scene, with plenty of counter-style seating in bars that are a great place to meet other solo travelers and friendly guests.

All of the ships mentioned above are great for solos, but we put Norwegian Encore first among them because it’s the newest. Of all Norwegian’s ships, it has the widest array of onboard attractions including one of the longest go-kart tracks at sea , an epic, open-air laser tag course and a virtual reality play zone.

Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Breakaway are scheduled to rotate in and out of Miami for Bahamas and Caribbean sailings over the next two years. None of them operate out of Miami year-round, and typically they’re not in town at the same time. If you’re planning a solo cruise from Miami in the next couple years, you’ll want to search for which vessel is scheduled to sail from Miami when you want to travel.

Best cruises for unrivaled fun: Carnival Celebration

Looking for a cruise out of Miami that is all about fun? Look no further than the sailings on Carnival Cruise Line ‘s new Carnival Celebration .

Carnival famously markets itself as the Fun Ship line, and this massive, 19-deck-high ship takes the tagline to heart with loads of fun-focused activities. It’s got everything from a water park and ropes course to one of the first roller coasters at sea .

In the ship’s interior areas, you’ll find many bars, eateries and showrooms where fun is the focus, including restaurants where the waiters dance for you in between courses (something of a Carnival signature). The always-busy casino can be a fun zone for some, depending on the vagaries of Lady Luck.

Carnival draws a lively, outgoing crowd looking to be part of the action, and that’s what you’ll find on Carnival Celebration. The typical Carnival customer shoots up a hand when an entertainer asks for a volunteer to come on stage or jumps up to dance with the waiters during the dinner show. If this sounds like you, you’ve found your ship for a cruise from Miami.

Just don’t expect anything too highbrow. Carnival is about fun in a laid-back, unpretentious, nothing-too-fancy way.

At 183,521 gross tons, Carnival Celebration is one of the biggest ships sailing regularly from Miami. With room for up to 6,630 passengers, it’s one of the most packed, too. Expect fun in the form of a bustling party at sea.

As for that roller coaster, just be warned that it’s not the biggest you’ve ever seen. Dubbed Bolt: Ultimate Sea Coaster, it has an 800-foot-long track and vehicles that can hit speeds of 40 miles per hour. When it comes to top-deck cruise ship fun, it’s hard to think of anything that compares.

Bottom line

Few ports in the world are home to as many cruise ships as Miami, which means cruisers have plenty of choices when it comes to sailings from the port. Almost all of the world’s biggest cruise lines — including Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and MSC Cruises — operate departures regularly from the port, typically with multiple ships and on multiple itineraries.

The 1999-built/2013-reconstructed Carnival Sunrise cruise ship was built as "Carnival Triumph" and inaugurated on October 30, 1999. After a major refurbishment in 2013 ( Fun Ship 2.0 ), the liner received a second emergency backup generator and top-notch fire detection technology. The Triumph was also re-decorated; with added new bars, lounges and entertainment options. As vessel class, Carnival Triumph is second of all three Destiny-class sisterships - together with Destiny-Sunshine and Victory-Radiance .

The vessel (IMO number 9138850) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 308045000) and registered in Nassau .

IMPORTANT : Due to the Coronavirus crisis, Carnival Sunrise was taken out of service in 2020-2021, and planned to restart cruises on March 3, 2022 (2-night itinerary out of PortMiami to Nassau Bahamas ).

• A total of 92x Carnival Sunrise cruises scheduled for the period between November 5, 2020, and April 30, 2022, were canceled. The canceled program was based on homeporting in Fort Lauderdale (Nov 2020 - May 2021) and Miami (May 2021 - Apr 2022).

History - construction and ownership

Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) is a US shipping company, trademarked brand and subsidiary of Carnival Corporation (shipowner). CCL was founded in 1972 as an independent company by Ted Arison (1924-1999, co-founder of NCL Norwegian ). 

CCL has the Corporation's largest fleet as number of vessels and GT-tonnage (ship sizes/volumes and passenger capacities). The 3000-passenger ship Carnival Triumph's theme was ”Great Cities of the World”. In 2019 (March-April) the ship entered drydock for ~USD 200 million refurbishment , after which it was renamed "Carnival Sunrise". The refitted liner was transformed into Sunshine-Class vessel - having the same facilities and amenities as the sistership Carnival Sunshine (former Carnival Destiny, refitted in 2013 for USD 155 million).

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Sunrise staterooms (1492 total, in 32 categories) include 54 Suites, 522 Balcony, 326 Oceanview and 611 Inside cabins, most of which are sized 185 ft2 / 17 m2. CCL Sunrise ship also has 89 Cloud 9 Spa cabins and 46 wheelchair-accessible cabins. Most cabin balconies are sized 35 ft2 / 3 m2. The largest are the Captain’s Suites (500 ft2 / 46 m2 plus 150 ft2 / 14 m2 terrace) accommodating up to 5 passengers.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Carnival Sunrise offers many of the Fun Ship 2.0 additions in terms of dining - Guy's Burger Joint, Cucina del Capitano, BlueIguana Cantina. The line made a few adjustments to the existing venues and also added the outstanding specialty restaurant, Chopsticks. There are two Main Dining Rooms onboard the Sunrise: Sunset, at the midship, and double-deck Sunrise located aft. The complimentary Punchliner Comedy Brunch, which is a sea day exclusive, features 5-minute teasers every hour on the hour from 9 am to 1:30 pm.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Carnival made a heavy investment in lights and sound for its shows on Carnival Breeze and has taken a step further on Sunrise. An ultra-HD graphics package is beamed onto a vast screen and the performers use it as a backdrop of their show. A number of themed shows take place in ship's Liquid Lounge, which doubles as the 800-seat main Theater. Because the room was initially designed as a theater with two stories, it's impossible to feature an intimate atmosphere.

The Sunrise ship offers a complete list of activities and entertainment for each age group and taste - from ballroom scene dancing, classical music concerts, tea time and art auctions to a hairy chest and knobby knees contests, bingo, and karaoke.

In comparison to Carnival Sunshine, Sunrise has smaller-sized WaterWorks located midship (aft on Sunshine).

Sunrise also lacks SkyCourse (rope course adjacent to WaterWorks).

The CCL's new signature venue is via a partnership with Operation Homefront (2002-founded, USA-based nonprofit organization providing services and support to military families and veterans). The Heroes Tribute fetures comfortable seating (leather armchairs with low tables) and large TVs (for live sporting events).

Itineraries

With inaugural cruise departure on April 29, 2019, Carnival Sunrise operates on 7-day roundtrips from  Norfolk VA . Follow 4-5-day itineraries leaving roundtrip from homeport  Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale  to The Bahamas and Western-Eastern Caribbean.

In 2019-2020, the renamed Carnival Triumph-Sunrise ship started a new itinerary program of 4- to 14-day roundtrips from the USA homeports NYC New York , Fort Lauderdale Florida and Norfolk Virginia.

• From homeport NYC, were offered five 4-day Bermuda cruises (May 23, June 20, July 18, Aug 15, Sept 12), one 6-day Bermuda (Sept 16, 2019, overnight) and one 8-day Caribbean and Bermuda (June 24, with 2 overnights in Bermuda and visiting Grand Turk). The ship also has scheduled three 7-day Canada New England cruises (Sept 22, 29, Oct 6) plus two 8-day Caribbean (to Grand Turk, Puerto Rico and Amber Cove, departures July 2, 10, 30, Aug 7, 27, Sept 4), one 8-day roundtrip (to Puerto Rico, St Thomas USVI and Grand Turk (July 22, Aug 19), one 10-day Eastern Caribbean itinerary (June 10, to Puerto Rico, Tortola BVI, St Maarten, St Thomas USVI, Grand Turk), one 14-day "Carnival Journeys" (May 27, to Panama Canal / Colon, Grand Turk, Grand Cayman, Limon Costa Rica, Half Moon Cay Bahamas).
• From homeport Fort Lauderdale were offered 4- and 5-day roundtrips (April 2019) and between November 2019 - April 2020). The 4-day Bahamas itineraries (Thursday departures) visited Nassau and Half Moon Cay (or Princess Cays). The 5-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries (Saturday departures) visited Grand Turk, Nassau, Half Moon Cay/Princess Cays. The 5-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries (Monday departures) visited Ocho Rios Jamaica and Grand Cayman.
• In 2019, from homeport Norfolk VA, the ship operated 5- and 6-day Bahamas itineraries roundtrip from Half Moone Cruise Center. Two 5-day Bahamas itineraries (May 12, 17) visited Nassau and Freeport. The 6-day itineraries (May 6, Oct 14, 20) visited Half Moon Cay, Nassau, Freeport.
• Starting mid-December 2019 and in early-2020, the ship offered regular 5-day Bahamas and Cuba cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay and Havana .

Carnival Triumph itinerary program was based on 4- and 5-day Western Caribbean short-breaks from Galveston TX to Mexico. Feature port destinations included Cozumel and Progreso Yucatan . Starting April 4, 2016, Triumph offered new itineraries from homeport NOLA New Orleans .

Triumph was Carnival's first-ever liner with mobile phone systems ("Cellular At Sea" by Wireless Maritime Services). This partnership (between AT&T and MTN Sat / Maritime Telecommunications Network) allowed passengers to use their cell phones at sea to call directly at any time.

The Fincantieri Monfalcone -built Carnival Triumph was christened by godmother Madeleine Arison - wife of Micky Arison (Carnival Corporation's Chairman). Sunrise ship's godmother is Kelly Arison - daughter of Micky Arison. The vessel's christening ceremony was on May 23, 2019, held at Manhattan Cruise Passenger Terminal in Port NYC New York . The naming ceremony featured a 4-ft (1,2-m) high champagne bottle sculpture (filled with confetti) which was custom-made by Romero Britto (1963-born Brazilian artist).

Sunrise ship's Captains are Bruno Palomba (during the drydock) and Isidoro Renda (after the launch). Captain Isidoro Renda (Italian, Naples graduate) is with Carnival since 2010 (starting as Second Officer) and Captain since 2016. Its previous service was with TIRRENIA Ferries and MSC Cruises . Ship's other officers include Mauro Fabbrini (Chief Engineer), Nicola Tonelli (Chief Engineer), and Caroline Bourke (Hotel Director).

Carnival Sunrise refurbishment 2024 review

The vessel's first drydocking (as Carnival Sunrise) was in 2022, conducted in February-March 2024, at Navantia Cadiz. The ship left Miami on Feb 1st and arrived in Cadiz on Feb 10th.

The 2-week drydocking project was for general maintenance works (technical overhaul, classification inspections, minor steel works), indoor renovation works, as well as hull cleaning/painting, including the addition of CCL's new hull livery (red-white-blue).

Refurbishment/renovations received all public areas (facilities and venues) as well as all passenger staterooms.

During the drydocking was also added CCL's new signature lounge the Heroes Tribute Bar.

Carnival Triumph-Sunrise ship conversion 2019 refurbishment review

Following the 38-day long drydock refit in 2019 (February 26 - April 28, at Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz Spain ), Carnival Triumph becomes "Carnival Sunrise".

The new liner has 12 new bar and dining options, plus fleetwide facilities, among which are company's signature RedFrog Pub (Caribbean rums and beers, Carnival ThirstyFrog Red Ale), Chef’s Table (multi-course VIP dining), SportsSquare (ropes course, basketball court, jogging track, 9-hole minigolf course), Carnival Waterworks park with waterslides (203 ft / 62 m and 212 ft / 65 m long), Serenity Retreat (adult-only lounge), Video Gaming Arcade, Fun Shops, comedy club, new theatre.

CCL Sunrise has 4 new suites - two Captain’s Suites (850 ft2 / 79 m2) and two Grand OceanView Suites (320 ft2 / 30 m2). All passenger staterooms were thoroughly updated. Captain’s Suites have max capacity 5 passengers and are located next to Navigation Bridge.

Carnival Cruise Line sets its sights on new Bahamas port of call

Carnival to open grand bahama celebration key in summer of 2025.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Carnival Cruise Line has released another round of updates on what travelers can expect when its new private destination Grand Bahama Celebration Key opens.

Debuting in summer 2025, the port of call will welcome ships from Florida ports Port Canaveral, PortMiami, Tampa and Jacksonville, as well as six other U.S. ports.

The 369-acre site less than 20 miles east of Freeport will be the first dedicated to Carnival Cruise Line, although Carnival ships have used sister line destinations Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay for years.

The largest port construction project in the line’s history will be carved into five segments the company calls portals. Carnival released details about the third one tied to retail, an artisan village called Lokono Cove. (“Lokono” means “the people” in the native Lucayan language.)

The name was the winning selection from Grand Bahamas resident Deidre Rahming, who was on hand in Miami Beach with an entourage from the Bahamian government on Tuesday at the Seatrade Cruise Global conference.

She received a check for $5,000 from Carnival and a future day pass for the resort, which won’t normally be open to visitors from the island. The line says at least 300 jobs will be generated for locals serving the cruise guests.

Lokono Cove will have kiosks and stores alongside “an authentic Bahamian artisan market” showcasing local craftsmanship, according to Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy. Beyond the items for sale, the space will have music and murals to enhance the space, and local food.

“Lokono Cove will be a treasure trove — a place for our guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of the Bahamas and find locally inspired keepsakes, symbols of paradise they can share with loved ones or cherish for themselves for years to come,” Duffy said. “Honoring the beauty and culture of the Bahamas is integral to our plans for Celebration Key, and that will be on display throughout Lokono Cove.”

The space also will be the gateway for visitors to explore Grand Bahama.

It’s the third name drop by Carnival following the reveal of welcome area Paradise Plaza and adult-friendly area Calypso Lagoon. The final two space names and details, which will be a family-friendly area and an adults-only private area, will be revealed later.

The site will also have a south-facing, mile-long beachfront expanse and a massive freshwater inland lagoon that the line says is the largest in the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Paradise Plaza features a rainbow-colored walkway through a sunshine entranceway with a 10-story “Suncastle” as a centerpiece. The welcome area is the place to book the day’s activities, including cabanas, water sports and shore excursions. The area will also feature a Bahamian-themed fountain and ice cream shop.

Calypso Cove is the name of an adult-friendly area coming to Carnival’s Celebration Key on Grand Bahama island when it opens in summer 2026.

Calypso Lagoon, just to the west, is home to the sport court, the freshwater lagoon and lounging options galore. It’s home to a bar with 50 swings that let visitors dip their feet into the water, and just one of many bars serving the space and two full-service restaurants and other casual snack shacks. The adults-only area of the portal will feature a swim-up bar with a DJ, food trucks and more lounging options.

Future expansion will build beyond the five portals, including the construction of a water park.

The port of call will open with one dock capable of handling Carnival’s largest ships, the 6,000-passenger Excel class.
