Amazing hotel, beautiful location and views all around. Lots of birds floating around. Food was excellent in each meal. Drinks top notch including cocktails, juices and coffee. Staff - welcoming and extremely service oriented. Paul was delightful as was Benson and Mourine. Spa was great, loved my services. Lots of activities on site. Fire pits were great and fires in rooms at night along with hot water bottles was so inviting. Hotel decor is elegant and tasteful. Highly recommend. Only regret is we are not staying longer. Would come back here in a heart beat!

Kenya is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The East African beauty has so much to do from the bustling capital of Nairobi to the beautiful beaches south of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean. Plus it also has some of the best safari parks and lodges in the world. One of my favorites is the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club .

Here’s a perfect 48 hours at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club.

11am Arrival from Nairobi

It’s a 3.5 hours drive from Nairobi or a quick 40-minute puddle jumper to the remote airport of Nanyuki. From Nanyuki it’s only a 15-minute drive to the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club.

*Travel Mindset Tip: If you’re flying into Nairobi and your flight arrives in the afternoon, book a room at the Fairmont Nairobi to get your bearings and adjust to the time change before departing to Mount Kenya Safari Club.

1pm Equator Crossing Ceremony

After you’re settled into your luxurious room, head out to the grassy area behind the pool for an educational and fun experience called the Equator Crossing Ceremony. The club is literally on the Equator so you’ll get to see a demonstration of how water flows in opposite directions in each hemisphere-only about ten feet apart! The ceremony also features so Masai Warriors dancing and playing music and yes you get to dance! They also give you a certificate that you crossed the Equator!

3pm The Orphanage

The on-site animal orphanage at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club will likely be the highlight of your stay–it was for me. This is where you really get to see and interact with several very rare or endangered animals. The orphanage is legitimately run and serves several humanitarian needs for the animals. It’s also a great place to learn about them and in some cases you can actually touch them! Your guide also knows everything about the animals that are living there and gives you a ton of information to process. It’s a really awesome experience!

There are 120 rooms, from standard guest rooms to the grand Equatorial Suite, where Sir Winston Churchill used to stay. It’s split in two by the equator, so your room mate could be sleeping in the southern hemisphere while you doze in the northern. All rooms have views of either the gardens, the forest or of Mount Kenya, and have a country club atmosphere, with wood-burning fireplaces, large, indulgent beds and luxurious furnishings. Mawingo Suite

Aptly named after the ‘love nest’ of the first owners of the club, the stunning suite is fashioned with a luxurious five-piece en suite bathroom, a spacious lounge with a beautiful stone fire place and a private terrace overlooking the garden. Additional amenity includes a separate vanity room adjacent to the bedroom.

Garden Suite

The cozy and inviting suite provides all the comforts of home. The spacious lounge is separated from the bedroom with a beautiful stone fire place that can warm you up from the comfort of the lounge or the bedroom. Located within walking distance from the main building, the suite has a five-piece en suite bathroom and a private terrace overlooking the beautiful lawn gardens and coffee bushes.

Raymond Suite

The Raymond Suite is luxuriously furnished to give the suite a comfy and inviting atmosphere. It features a spacious lounge separate from the bedroom, with a 32” Plasma screen and a beautiful stone fire place for the classic chilly evenings. The suite occupies 61 sqm and has a great view of the mountain.

Signature Suite

Similar to the Manor Suite, the Signature Suite offers a stunning view of the majestic mountain and is located on the historical block of the resort. The suite features an impressive 138sqm space accommodating a spacious lounge furnished with elegant fixtures, a beautiful stone fire place, a stately plush bedroom and a private balcony overlooking the swimming pool, picturesque gardens and magnificent views of the mountain. Its imperial five-piece en suite bathroom will definitely leave you feeling pampered.

The Manor Suite

If you can’t get enough of the mystical mountain, then the Manor Suite is ideal for you. Situated in the original historical block of the resort, the suite features an open concept design including a spacious lounge area flaunting luxurious furnishings, a wooden lit fire place, a separate plush bedroom and a private balcony overlooking the swimming pool, picturesque gardens and unrivalled view of the mountain. Its luxurious 5 piece en suite bathroom will leave you feeling pampered.

William Holden Cottages

Named after the founder, the William Holden Cottages reflect the history and charm of the original residence. The cottage features an impressive 329 sqm space which is elegantly furnished and possesses a spacious lounge, a beautiful stone fire place, a regal five-piece en suite bathroom and a expansive private lawn overlooking the majestic mountain. The stunning cottage has two adjoining bedrooms which can be closed off for individual privacy or sold as a one or two bed roomed suite, each furnished with all the suite features and amenities.

Riverside Suite

Located on the river side and 2 minutes drive away from the main building, the suite is uniquely situated, providing a magnificent view of Mount Kenya from a tranquil seclusion. The room is luxuriously furnished with ample living space, which is separated from the bedroom with a beautiful stone fire place, a 5 piece en suite marble bathroom and a private terrace overlooking the forest.

Riverside Deluxe Suite

If privacy and serenity are on the agenda this is the perfect room for you. This room is uniquely located, providing a magnificent view of Mount Kenya from a tranquil seclusion. The room is luxuriously furnished with a spacious lounge,five-piece en suite marble bathroom and a private terrace overlooking the forest.

Delicious meals are eaten at Tusks Restaurant, where you can sit indoors by the fire or outside on the large terrace with beautiful views of Mount Kenya. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are eaten here: breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style and offer an abundance of Kenyan-inspired and continental dishes, while dinner is a four-course set menu. When I was there, superb chef Picco Alapatt whipped up an enormous Indian feast suitable for vegetarians, so those with dietary requirements need not fear. There’s also Zebar, the cosy lounge in which to sit by the fire with a cocktail before dinner. Enjoy an elegant dining affair at the Tusks Resturant, one of the most exquisite restaurants in Nanyuki. It offers a sophisticated indoor set up which extends onto a terrace, with a great view of the majestic mountain. Adjacent to it is the Zebar, a great spot to unwind after a day of adventure, whilst the Swimming Pool Bar is perfect for a tranquil rendezvous. The Mawingo room is popular for hosting private dinners and cocktail parties.

Tusks Restaurant And Terrace

Facing the snow-capped Mount Kenya and overlooking the property’s beautifully manicured grounds, the signature restaurant boasts a menu abounding with the incredible variety of foods that are farmed in Central Kenya. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, this elegant setting features terrace and indoor dinning around the original grand fireplace. Breakfast and lunch are served as buffet offering the best of what Kenya has to offer, dinner is served as a four course’s set menu with vegetarian options. Tusks Restaurant offers fantastic views on to Mount Kenya forest and snow caped peaks, in the evening, the original fire place will provide a warm and cozy atmosphere. Seating capacity is 120 people.

Zebar features large windows overlooking the gardens, snow covered peak of Mount Kenya and beyond. In addition to offering a relaxed lounge atmosphere, Zebar, resting on the equator, is one of the few places in the world where your server will have to cross from the southern to the northern hemisphere to retrieve your order. The menu includes choice of liqueurs, beers, soft drinks, cocktails, wines, spirits, tea and coffee, as well as a bar snacks.

Swimming Pool Bar

Relax by the pool, while your waiter serves you a refreshing cocktail crafted at the Zebar. Liqueurs, soft drinks, cocktails, tea and coffee, as well as a snack menu are served from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

There are so many things to do here, but the lovely animal orphanage, operated by the William Holden Wildlife Foundation, is a unique and thrilling feature of the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club that is not to be missed. Here wildlife foundlings are raised with great care, and many are quite tame—we have the opportunity to feed them by hand, pet them, and even hold some of them. It is an opportunity to get up close and personal with some wild creatures that, despite a struggle, have survived and thrived with help from the Club.

Late actor William Holden founded Mount Kenya Safari Club over fifty years ago, and over the last half decade this has been a luxury playground for luminaries from the worlds of politics, film and theatre. It’s easy to see why this spot was chosen for such glamorous getaways. This is not merely the site of the continent’s second tallest mountain but it’s also a temperate escape in dazzling surroundings. Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbatten were members who enjoyed sojourns at the Club, as did film legends Clark Gable and John Wayne.

A glance at the black and white photographs on the lounge walls is enough to imagine the intriguing conversations that must have taken place here when Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbattan were regular visitors, smoking cigars and talking politics under the watchful eyes of the mounted lion, buffalo and zebra heads in the Trophy Room.

In addition to a rich and storied history, our luxurious rooms at the Club have been wonderfully renovated since the purchase of the property by Fairmont, and they delight with woodburning fireplaces, private verandas, and plush furniture. Here we find all the comforts of a true home away from home: hairdryers, minibars, oversized rainshowers and the like.

The lodge hosts myriad activities and events on the grounds: try your hand at tennis on a court that straddles the equator, take to the links on the Club’s 9-holer, get pleasantly lost in the garden maze (don’t worry, when you enter the maze you’ll be given a white flag to wave if you’re really lost), indulge in an excellent high tea on the pool deck, or be pampered in the beauty salon.

Rugged adventurers may prefer to bring a rod and reel to the river to cast for Brown and Rainbow trout, or take one of the Club’s horses out to explore the unique wildlife—including tree hyrax, bushbucks, elands, elephants and even the occasional bongo—around the forest reserve. Return to the Club to relax and simply enjoy the spectacular view of the mountain’s peaks over a traditional afternoon tea or cocktails from the poolside patio.

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club is a luxury accommodation situated on the foothills of Mt. Kenya, bordering the Mt. Kenya National Park. The hotel is located within Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, a 15-minute drive from Nanyuki Airstrip, 10 km from Nanyuki Town, and 220 km from Nairobi.

The Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club Resort’s 110 luxuriously appointed hotel rooms and villas are set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens. All the guest rooms, suites, and cottages are imbued with tradition and charm and reflect the 1950’s colonial architectural design with a luxury country club. The rooms are equipped with modern-day amenities.

Each guestroom is elegantly furnished with rugs, a wood-burning fireplace, a minibar, a safety deposit box, built-in wardrobes, and tea/coffee-making facilities. The bathroom is en-suite with a separate rain shower, marble vanity, hair dryer, electric razor plugs, and a separate water closet.

Guests can enjoy elegant dining affairs at the Tusks Restaurant which offers a sophisticated indoor setup that extends onto a terrace, with a great view of the majestic mountain. The Swimming Pool Bar is perfect for a tranquil rendezvous and serves guests refreshing cocktails. The private William Holden Dining Area is Set around a wood-burning fireplace and is popular for hosting private dinners and cocktail parties.

Fairmont Mount has stylish and spacious meeting facilities that provide a number of venues, which include executive boardrooms and a selection of conference halls. The halls can accommodate between 10-200 guests.

About Our Hotel

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club has been awarded Africa’s leading hotel in 2022 and 2023 by the World Travel Awards.

The iconic Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club is a remote luxury 5-star resort located in the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy in Nanyuki, Kenya. The hotel is rooted in history and has evolved from the vision of its founding members in the early 1930’s as a hunting ground to a beautiful story today as a hotel within a conservancy. The organization plays a crucial role in its host community through conservation and sustainability initiatives. As part of the conservation work, the property has a goal to rehabilitate and release the antelope species called the “Mountain Bongo’s” who were heading towards extinction and hence continues to make historic strides for future generations.

Nestled in the lush foothills of Mount Kenya offering 100 luxury rooms, surrounded by beautiful forests and conservancies(Ol-Pejeta, Solio to name a few) . The hotel features a prestigious main structure that reflects the 1950’s colonial architectural design with a luxury country club feel, complemented by independent quaint cottages, including William Holden’s original cottage which offers breathtaking views of the mountain.

The hotel guests can indulge in an array of exciting outdoor activities including animal orphanage visits, destination dining, bongo tracking, horse riding in the forest/conservancy, phenomenal breakfasts at the slopes of Mount Kenya, and open fire dinner concepts at the foothills of the Mountain. Moreover, the F&B offerings include an all-day dining restaurant, a fine dining grill restaurant, a bar, and banquets/wedding destinations.

We are looking to grow our team and engage a highly motivated and passionate Demi Chef De Partie - Pastry who will work closely with the team to drive and deliver on the Fairmont promise, turning moments into memories.

Lead by example using Fairmont’s: Mission, Vision & Values
Support/Coach/Lead & Motivate kitchen colleagues
Actively share ideas, opinions & suggestions in daily shift briefings
Ensure storeroom requisitions are accurate to minimize repeat visits
Ensure all kitchen colleagues are aware of standards & expectations
Promote Health and Safety at all times
Ensure proper hygiene according HACCP regulations
Ensure all grooming, spot check and temperature control sheets are filled as required
Maintain cleanliness and proper rotation of product in all chillers
Minimize wastage/ spoilage
Maintain consistent on the job training sessions for culinary colleagues
Liaison daily with Outlet Chefs to keep open lines of communication & guest feedback
Ensure high standard for food preparation and presentation
Act as an extension of kitchen managers to communicate food consistency & quality
Daily checks of all mis-en-place to ensure freshness & quality standards
Assign and follow – up tasks as dictated by business volumes
Performs any other reasonable duties as required by the department head
Promote a Fun/ Professional and disciplined work environment

Skills and Competence

Academic qualifications

Diploma in Hotel & Hospitality Management or Diploma in Culinary Arts

The job holder is required to have at least 2 years relevant experience in a similar position in a reputable luxury property or well-founded and reputable hotel preferred 4 Star and above
