1 minute read

Coldplay’s ongoing Music of the Spheres world tour has sold over 7.5 million tickets and grossed $550m (£428m/€494m) in the process, and has now been extended with a third round of European shows next year.

According to a report from Billboard , the band also made Billboard Boxscore history when they became the second artist to score a half-billion double-up in the top 10 of all-time highest-grossing the tours when they originally crossed the $500m mark.

A statement on the British band’s website revealed that there will be a new run of shows across Europe in 2024.

In June, Coldplay will perform at Athens’ Olympic Stadium, Arena Natională in Bucharest, Puskás Aréna in Budapest, and two shows at Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

Across July, the band will play two shows in Rome at Stadio Olimpico, two concerts at Düsseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena and one at Helsinki’s Olympiastadion.

August will then see Coldplay travel to Munich for two performances at the Olympiastadion, then on to Vienna for two shows at the Austrian capital’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion. The additional European dates will come to a close at Dublin’s Croke Park.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from July 25 while the general sale will begin on July 28.

Music of the Spheres World Tour: How Coldplay Broke Attendance Record in 5 Countries

music of the spheres world tour revenue

Coldplay is currently touring the universe for their 8 th headlined tour, “Music of the Spheres World Tour,” and the tour has been nothing short of entertaining as the British band goes on breaking one record after the other .

But before headlining the music of the Spheres World Tour, Coldplay had headlined 7 other tours, including “A Head Full of Dreams Tour” which was back in 2016, lasting through to 2017 and creating more fame for the British band.

While comparing A Head Full of Dreams, and the Music of the Spheres world tour, you’ll realize that there have been major changes in the positive aspect of growth for Coldplay.

The Band has greatly advanced in various aspects of their career, with regards to the audience size they usually perform to, stage size, and revenue generated during these events.

We will be comparing 5 specific Coldplay concert locations in 5 countries that hold changes recorded in audience sizes, during Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams and Music of the Spheres World Tour.

Additionally, Coldplay announced more dates for the Asian leg of the Music of the Spheres World Tour and you can subtly get Coldplay tickets through a reliable marketplace.

When Coldplay toured the world for A Head Full of Dreams in 2017, one of the places they visited in France was Saint-Denis. While there, Coldplay performed in the Stade De France (National Stadium of France), and they had an audience of 235,611 people in attendance during the concert.

Even though Saint-Denis was not the only city in France that they performed in, it is the only place that had a reasonable amount of people in 3 days, which is closest to the 4 days Coldplay performed when they re-visited Saint-Denis during the Music of the Spheres World Tour.

The population record in Stade de France when Coldplay visited Saint-Denis during the Music of the Spheres World Tour 2022 was 318,331. Instantly, the difference between both tours can be seen from the attendance figures.

Subtracting A Head Full of Dreams 235,611 from Music of the Spheres’ 318,331 leaves you with 82,720. This is even more than the number of people who were present in Parc Olympique Lyonnais, France, one of the other cities Coldplay performed in, in 2017, during their 7 th tour.

Coldplay has only visited 1 city in France so far in 2022 for their Music of the Spheres World Tour and they performed for 4 days. The group however added France to their 2024 tour schedule.

Coldplay took their A Head Full of Dreams Tour to England, Manchester back in 2016. The band performed for 4 days in June, entertaining a total of 303,985 people.

Taking this figure alone might give you the impression that it was a massive crowd. And truly, it is. But Coldplay found out they could do more when they brought the Music of the Spheres World Tour to the same city in England, back in August 2022.

During their A Head Full of Dreams Tour, Coldplay performed in Wembley Stadium. The same place they did their show last year during the Music of the Spheres World Tour. After recording up to 464,839 during the Music of the Spheres World tour, the difference in population between both tours was massive.

Even though Coldplay entertained Wembley for 6 days compared to the 4 days in 2016, subtracting the number of people who attended the concert in 2016, from the number in 2022 will give you precisely 160,854 people left who were not in Coldplay’s concert 7 years ago, but made it 1 year ago.

This shows that Coldplay reached more audiences during their Music of the Spheres World Tour, compared to A Head Full of Dreams, breaking another attendance record.

Brazil was especially lucky during Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour. The fans there got to be entertained by the British band for 4 days, in 4 different cities which now hold another record of the attendance record that Coldplay has broken during their Music of the Spheres World Tour.

Altogether, the 4 cities, (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and Porto Alegre with São Paulo again)   Coldplay visited in Brazil during their A Head Full of Dreams tour had an attendance record of 253,010.

This turned out to be a petty number after we compared the attendance record they had in São Paulo alone, that is 439,651 when they performed at the Estádio do Morumbi (Morumbi Football Stadium) this year’s March.

We then decided to make this comparison fair by summing the total attendance Coldplay had in 3 of the cities they performed in during their Music of the Spheres World Tour.

The result was 736,439, which is close to 3 times the population they had during their 2016 tour. The 4 cities Coldplay visited in Brazil for their Music of the Spheres World Tour were São Paulo, Curitiba, and Rio de Janeiro.

Coldplay started their A Head Full of Dreams Tour in 2016 in La Plata, Argentina. They performed at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata on the 31 st of March and also on the 1 st of April.

Surprisingly, as per records, Coldplay went back to the same city and location, La Plata, Argentina to conclude the A Head Full of Dreams tour which had a total of 195,266 taken from the summation of the attendance recorded on 31 st March, 1 st April 2016 and 14 th , 15 th November 2017.

Fast-forward to 2022, during the Music of the Spheres World Tour. Coldplay went back to Argentina to perform for 10 days. The shows which took place in the city of Buenos Aires had close to 650k people in attendance at the River Plate Stadium, from the summation of the 10 days the band performed there.

Although the concert venues changed during the Music of the Spheres World Tour, the turnout was clear evidence that Coldplay won more fans after their last visit to Argentina breaking the attendance record of 2016 by close to 400k people.

United States

Before we begin calculating the number of people who made it to Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour in 2016 and those who made it to the Music of the Spheres World Tour, know that the US holds the record for the country with the most dates Coldplay performed in, in both tours.

Soldier Field in Chicago for instance had a total of 107,072 people in attendance on the 28 th and 29 th of May, 2022 during the Music of the Spheres World Tour giving it 11,749 more in attendance compared to A Head Full of Dreams that had just 95,323 people.

Another iconic place in the US where Coldplay performed is East Rutherford. The British band had a total of 100,763 people in attendance during their 2016 tour, A Head Full of Dreams. Even though that number is comparable to the 117,240 of the Music of the Spheres World Tour, it denotes the difference in attendance for the British Band’s visit 7 years ago and 1 year ago.

The US remains one of the most welcoming places of musical art compared to other parts of the world. This probably explains why Coldplay, alongside other popular artists that tour the world, seem to dedicate more dates to their fans located there.

Coldplay Pledges to Lower Carbon Emissions on 2022 Tour

On Thursday (Oct. 14), Coldplay announced the dates for its 2022 global tour in support of the upcoming album 'Music of the Spheres.'

By Gil Kaufman

Gil Kaufman

Coldplay announced the dates for an expansive 2022 world tour in support of the group’s upcoming Max Martin-produced album, Music of the Spheres  on Thursday morning (Oct. 14). The stadium outing is slated to kick off on March 18 with the band’s first-ever show in Costa Rica, at the Estadio Nacional, before moving on to the Dominican Republic and Mexico and then touching down in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on April 23 for a U.S. run slated to last through a June 14 gig at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

H.E.R. is on board to support the majority of the dates, with London Grammar booked to open a July 10 show in Berlin and an Aug. 16 gig at Wembley Stadium in London. Tickets for the U.S. dates will go on sale to the general public on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. local time here , with a release teasing that more dates will be announced soon.

Ed Sheeran Joins Coldplay to Perform 'Fix You' & 'Shape of You' at London Album Party

In an effort to make the tour as sustainable as possible, the band announced that all the shows will be powered by 100% renewable energy, with pledges to cut tour emissions by 50% from the group’s 2016-17 world tour and plant one tree for every ticket sold. According to a release, each venue will be equipped with solar installations and other renewable power sources including waste cooking oil and a kinetic stadium floor with kinetic bikes powered by fans that will store energy in the first-ever mobile, rechargeable show battery.

Coldplay are also encouraging fans to use low-carbon transport to and from shows through the official tour app, rewarding those who do with a discount at the venues, in addition to making sure that all merch is sustainably and ethically sourced. There will also be free drinking water and efforts made to eliminate plastic bottles at every venue; click here to see the full list of sustainability goals.

In a statement, the band said, “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together. At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward. We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Music of the Spheres World Tour

2022–2024 concert tour by coldplay / from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Music of the Spheres World Tour is the ongoing eighth concert tour undertaken by British rock band Coldplay . Announced on 14 October 2021, it is being staged in support of their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres , marking their return to live performances after the COVID-19 pandemic . The band had not toured for their previous record, Everyday Life (2019), because they wanted to launch an environmentally friendly strategy to travel. According to the plans they developed over the previous two years with specialists, CO 2 emissions will be reduced by 50% in comparison to the Head Full of Dreams Tour (2016–17).

Similar to the Mylo Xyloto Tour (2011–12), the concerts make extensive use of pyrotechnics and confetti . However, they were adapted to minimise the group's carbon footprint . Other ideas involved creating the first mobile rechargeable show battery in the world with BMW and planting a tree for every ticket sold. The tour began at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica on 18 March 2022 and is scheduled to end at New Zealand's Eden Park on 16 November 2024. Coldplay received widespread acclaim from music critics, who praised the band for their musicianship, stage presence, joyfulness, and production value.

With a global cultural impact , the Music of the Spheres World Tour surpassed $810.9 million in revenue from 7.66 million tickets across 132 dates, making it the third-highest-grossing and second-most attended tour of all time. The band also broke several records at the venues they visited. To celebrate the performances, Music of the Spheres: Live at River Plate (2023) was broadcast in cinemas around the world. Sustainability plan [ ]

Alongside the announcement, the band released a detailed plan outlining how they could have the least possible impact on the environment, resulting in 50% less carbon dioxide generated than during the A Head Full of Dreams Tour . Coldplay and a number of leading environmental experts worked on the plan for over two years, and it includes a number of innovative sustainability strategies. For example, the band has collaborated with BMW to develop the first "mobile, rechargeable show battery" to power each concert on the tour, and the stage will be constructed from "a combination of lightweight, low-carbon, and re-usable materials (including bamboo and recycled steel) that can be properly reused or recycled at the end of the tour." In addition, they have pledged to plant one tree for every ticket sold. [2]

The tour, like the Mylo Xyloto Tour and the A Head Full of Dreams Tour, will include extensive pyrotechnic and confetti visuals, as well as a third generation of Xylobands for audience members to wear. However, according to Coldplay's sustainability plan, these features will be adapted in such a way that their inclusion in each show on the tour will be more considerate towards the environment: the band have stated that they are investing in "a new generation of sustainable pyrotechnics that have less explosive charge and new formulas that greatly reduce or eliminate harmful chemicals", that "confetti used during the show will be 100% biodegradable and will require significantly less compressed gas for ignition than on previous tours", and that the LED wristbands will be made from 100% compostable, plant-based materials". Coldplay’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour was almost pulled due to money troubles

"It became financially stressful," said Chris Martin

Chris Martin and Will Champion of Coldplay

Coldplay have said they were close to cancelling their plans for their ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour after facing money issues.

  • READ MORE:  Coldplay live in London: a fantastical, feel-good bonanza that delivers on a bold promise

That’s according to singer, guitarist and pianist Chris Martin , who told ColdplayXtra that a “big financial crisis” was looming for the band for the first time in their history, and that unnamed people or organisations came to their rescue.

“It became financially stressful, which we hadn’t had before. We never really had a big financial crisis,” Martin told the fan publication. “This was the first time where there was a point where we couldn’t do the tour due to all the money stuff.

“But luckily we had some help and they saved the day and we did a few changes here and there. This tour was about trying new things and some of them work and some don’t. We are so lucky that we can survive and sustain losses and that’s OK.”

Coldplay’s current world tour is being staged in as eco-friendly a manner as is possible , including measures such as cutting direct emissions by 50 per cent compared to the band’s tour in 2016 and 2017.

They are also using 100 per cent renewable energy and having solar installations at every venue, all of which is likely to have required a bigger tour budget.

Martin added that drummer and backing vocalist, Will Champion, has the final say on Coldplay’s ideas for varying up their live shows from previous ones. For the tour in support of their latest album 2021’s ‘ Music Of The Spheres ‘, the group have at points been wearing alien masks and played with their invented alien puppet band, The Weirdos .

“We have ideas people and filters in the band. Without both we couldn’t operate. For every idea that you see on stage there has been about 51 that Will said, ‘No way.’ But that is how it works. He has to feel it. Once he feels it, we do it.

“That is why Will is the heart and the anchor of the band. If it doesn’t resonate with him, we don’t do it. If it’s close, we keep going until it does.”

Martin added: “The aliens and all that stuff, it’s allegorical. It’s us talking about life on Earth but without naming names because we are not really into criticism or finger pointing.

“But having alien heads is us saying we really believe in the equality of all people and all beings. So when people say they don’t really understand, I feel like that’s OK, it is maybe not for everybody.

“It is only for, like, six minutes. It allows us to go even more free and that is the whole reason we exist these days – to be free and to encourage others to be free.”

Coldplay

The band have sold approximately 1.4million tickets for their recently-announced 2023 UK and European tour . They will be hitting the road in the UK and Europe across May, June and July next year for further gigs including stop-offs in Manchester and Cardiff.

Find any remaining tickets for the dates here .

Last month, Martin revealed that Coldplay knew their classic track ‘The Scientist’ would be a song that they’d “play forever” at live shows after hearing it for the first time.

An earlier version of this article stated that The Sun was the source for Martin’s quotes. It was incorrect and NME apologises for the error.

Coldplay bring fans into a breathtaking universe in ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ concert in Singapore – gig report

Coldplay bring fans into a breathtaking universe in ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ concert in Singapore – gig report

“Thanks for a phenomenal Friday, Singapore,” said Coldplay in a tweet.

Last Friday night (26/1), we experienced a new high. We found ourselves transported to a new universe, thanks to the GRAMMY-winning act. On the third night of the British rock band’s Music of the Spheres World Tour in Singapore, the band not only unleashed an indelible spectacle – sights of digital fireworks, sustainable pyrotechnics, and a whole lot of confetti – but they also empowered their advocacy for an inclusive and sustainable world.

Thanks for a phenomenal Friday, Singapore pic.twitter.com/9CFOI4HuHN — Coldplay (@coldplay) January 26, 2024

The band whisked us away with a 21-track setlist of tracks from their rich discography, with songs from Parachutes (2000), Mylo Xyloto (2011) A Head Full of Dreams (2015) , and Music of the Spheres (2021). The 60,000-strong crowd (from here, there, and everywhere) at the National Stadium was able to share a safe space to cry, laugh, and scream to their heart’s content. The moment band members Chris Martin (vocals and piano), Guy Berryman (bass), Will Champion (drums), and Jonny Buckland (guitar) emerged on stage, two hours flew by without a hitch. Given the stunning production and acclaimed hits performed in full swing, how could it not?

So when the stadium pulsated with the glow of LED wristbands as the lights dimmed, we knew we were in for the adventure of a lifetime.

Check out the highlights of the Coldplay Music of the Spheres World Tour in Singapore below.

FUELED BY HIGHER, SUSTAINABLE POWER

The Music of the Spheres World Tour is made to be “as sustainable and low-carbon as possible” by reducing carbon emissions, supporting new green technologies, and making the tour environmentally beneficial.

The band’s stage production is charged with renewable and low-emission energy, powered up by solar panels, rechargeable show batteries, and kinetic energy by concert-goers. With power bikes and kinetic floors installed around the stadium, one’s dancing (and initiative to workout) helps to charge the show batteries while we immerse in the music.

When Chris stood solo at the B Stage, located at the far end of the main stage’s runway, he ignited the electrifying kickoff of the show with ‘ Higher Power ’, a fitting start to hype up those jumping around on the floor. With all our hands in the air, the stadium glowed with hues of red, blue, and purple synced to the clash of drums, as we chanted “You’ve got higher power” in unison during the chorus.

With no breaks in between to reflect on what a sight it was, the band broke into ‘ Adventure of a Lifetime ’ and ‘ Paradise ’.

“TIP-TOP PERFECT AUDIENCE”

Slowing down the tempo, the band treated us to a heartwarming set of ‘ The Scientist ’ as Chris settled down on his piano (no technical issues tonight!). This time, the lights turned down the brightness leaving only a green glow on the main stage, which enhanced the connection between us and the band.

As they delivered the iconic track, the entirety of the stadium echoed the words flawlessly alongside Chris’ unwavering vocals from start to finish.

music of the spheres world tour revenue

Mid-song, Chris shared his gratitude to the concert-goers for the night. “Thank you for giving us this beautiful Friday night in Singapore. We welcome you from wherever you’re from, whether you’re from here or you came from the Philippines, or Indonesia, or Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Borneo, or Australia. We’re so happy to see all of you and thank you for already being tip-top perfect as an audience, you’re just wonderful. And so we’ll prove how perfect you are by asking you to sing with us now. And we’ll sing together now, don’t be shy, it’s okay.”

And with that, we carried the chorus while Chris’ fingers danced on the piano: “ Nobody said it was easy / Oh, it's such a shame for us to part / Nobody said it was easy / No one ever said it would be so hard / Oh let’s go back to the start ”.

THE MOMENT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR

I don’t know about you, but the ultimate song that we have to hear live by Coldplay is ‘ Viva la Vida ’. It seemed like I wasn’t alone on this, because as soon as the distinct violin instrumentals blasted through the speakers, the crowd erupted into cheers and chanted the legendary “ Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh ” without any prompts from the band. In that moment, it felt like we ruled the world.

By the song’s end, drummer Will held the note for the chant while Chris pointed at each side of the stadium to carry the tune one last time before moving on to ‘ Something Just Like This ’.

WE CALL IT MAGIC

Taking a breather from the exhilaration, Chris remains solo on stage and makes his rounds to read fan-made signs. Fortunately, two lucky fans with signs that read “Can you sing Magic for my beautiful daughter, Lily?,” and  “I just healed from autoimmune, can you sing Magic for me and all autoimmune survivors?” were called up to share an intimate set of ‘ Magic ’ with the singer-songwriter.

@yshunbin Chris Martin singing ‘Magic’ as the surprise song on night 3 of Singapore Music of the Spheres world tour. sorry if the video is shaky because I was sobbing 😢 #coldplay #coldplayconcert #coldplaysingapore #coldplaysg #musicofthespheresworldtour #coldplaymagic #coldplaypiano #singapore #fyp ♬ original sound - yshunbin - Shaun Yeoh

As Chris delicately glides his fingers across the piano, he serenades them with a stripped-back version of the track, and even shares a light-hearted moment as he pulls the microphone closer to the pair and harmonised.

Being the lyrical genius he is, Chris switches up the lyrics during the second verse: “I call it magic / I’m so happy, Cece / You beat your autoimmune / And I just got over / over the blue / I should remember / This song’s for Lily too.”

AND IT WAS ALL YELLOW

Just then, all the pent-up excitement and euphoria comes down to this. The moment Chris said “You know I love you so”, a warm golden glow embraced the darkness, and the renowned guitar riffs of ‘ Yellow ’ wailed across the arena. A timeless song about love that tugs at your heartstrings, it’s hard to not sing along or stifle a cry. As we belted the entire ballad of the breakthrough hit, we shared this everlasting memory with our loved ones and fans across Singapore shores which is one to be remembered for years to come.

To make the scene all the more beautiful, canary “stars” shimmered around the roof of the stadium, complementing the radiant yellow glimmer all over the stadium.

MUSIC FOR EVERYONE

To make their music accessible to everyone, Coldplay have laid out initiatives to introduce their musical pieces to those with hearing impairments, sensory sensitivities, and low vision.

A sign-language area is open for those with disabilities, where local sign-language interpreters and SubPacs – tactile audio systems that allow one to feel the bass – assist the concertgoers in connecting with the music.

On top of that, Chris performed a rendition of ‘ Hymn for the Weekend ’ using sign language, and danced to an other-worldly showcase of ‘ Aeterna ’ when the band put on alien headgears.

A PHENOMENAL UNIVERSE UNLEASHED

As the Lion City is typically deprived of stars, the sky was full of it that night. Finally, the time has come for us to experience the ecstasy of another popular track off Coldplay’s Ghost Stories album, ‘ Sky Full of Stars ’. Naturally, we carried the first verse and chorus but as we were charging up for the beat to drop, the band stopped dead in their tracks.

“I have to catch the train, thank you so much goodbye,” Chris joked. “Well thank you, everybody, so far it’s so perfect. You’re just wonderful and you’re giving us the best Friday, we’re so grateful,” Chris expressed before asking us to store away our phones and cameras for the rest of the song. Just then, the instrumentals were revived together with the burst of blue flashes.

CHRIS MARTIN, THE LYRICAL GENIUS

If you’ve already been to one of the Coldplay shows in Singapore or anywhere else in the world, you would know that Chris is apt to think on his feet. Before concluding the show with ‘ Fix You ’ and ‘ Biutyful ’, he instructed everyone to keep their eyes on the jumbotron, as the cameraman selected random fans to appear on the screen and perhaps have Chris sing a personalised song for them.

Here are the three best jumbotron songs for the night.

“This beautiful man / And his lovely Alien Radio miss / They like to touch each other whenever they can / And now you’re on the big screen so give her a kiss,” dedicated to a couple donning matching Coldplay Alien Radio t-shirts.

“I go to a show of my favourite band / And guys that I’d quite like to meet / But I always just stay in my favourite clothes / I love Coldplay, but I prefer Sesame Street,” dedicated to a fan wearing a Sesame Street t-shirt.

“You really did not have to worry / You really did not make me frown / You could have left it the way that you had it / I’m so clever I can read upside down / Happy birthday to you,” dedicated to a fan holding a “Chris! Today is my birthday!” sign upside down.

Wrapping up the concert, the band reminded us how beautiful we are as they brought out ‘Biutyful’, a positive note to conclude a wonderful night. Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour is certainly one for the books given the astounding showmanship and thoughtful acts of sustainability and inclusivity. As we bear witness to the hypnotic masterpiece it’s clear that we’ll hit the wall with severe post-concert depression for a while, because where else can you find something just like this?

Music of the Spheres: England vs United States, where did Coldplay rock most?

music of the spheres world tour revenue

On the 31 st of May, 2023, Coldplay visited England for their “Music Of The Spheres World Tour.” The British band spent a total of 4 days in Manchester, performing live, the songs on “Music Of The Spheres,” their 9 th studio album, which they released on the 15 th of October, 2021.

Fast forward to September 2023, Coldplay took the “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” to the United States, with their first show being in Seattle. The band performed in Lumen Field, Seattle for a single day and then moved to San Diego, and Pasadena, where they performed for 2 days in each city.

Today, the “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” is a few months towards ending, and already, Coldplay has raked in so many awards that we believe will remain as constant reminders to the future world of entertainment that some great entertainers existed at a time in life.

Seeing that Europe and America have been the major hosts of Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres World Tour,” we’ve decided to walk through the greatness of the British band and compare some of their most visited places within these continents , in 2023. We’ll be covering major aspects that we believe are entertaining to Coldplayers, so be ready to have your mind blown.

Before we get down to business, we cannot ignore the fact that a lot of people have missed Coldplay concerts because the “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” tickets are hard to get. To keep this from happening, we have here an alternative ticket marketplace where you can get Coldplay Tickets .

In this part of the article, we’ll compare the Country that had to host Coldplay the most in 2023.

Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” concerts were scheduled to be held in England on the 31 st of May, 2023. Yes, Coldplay visited England in 2022, when the tour began, but this comparison is restricted to their 2023 activities only.

Altogether in 2023, England had to host Coldplay and the “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” for 4 days. May 31 st , 1 st , 3 rd , and 4 th June, 2023.

United States

Coldplay then visited the US twice on 2 different occasions amidst their tour, which was on the 20th of September, and also on the 27 th , which then marked their 2 nd coming to the same country, lasting through the 28 th , and 30 th of the same month. The band left after their 5 th show of the year in the US, which was on the 1 st of October, 2023.

This means that the US had to host Coldplay for 5 nights, compared to the 4 nights that Coldplay was in England back in May/June 2023.

Attendance at Coldplay concerts has sparked the internet on many occasions. The British band has been breaking their attendance record in venues they have visited during previous tours. Let’s take a look at the record they set in the US and England.

Coldplay held their “Music of the Spheres World Tour” concert in the Etihad Stadium, located in Manchester, 2023. From the archives of the tour, more than 200k people made it to the concert for the 4 nights the band performed.

Since Coldplay visited the US on 2 different occasions, we separated the first visit with the 2 nd visit which has longer days compared to the first with just a single-day concert.

In Seattle, Coldplay performed in Lumen Field, where more than 60k people turned out for the concert. In San Diego, Coldplay performed at Snapdragon Stadium, where more than 65k people appeared in the concert for 2 nights.

Lastly, in Pasadena, Coldplay performed in the Rose Bowl, and more than 136k people made it to the concert for the 2 nights it lasted.

Summing all the recorded attendance together, it’s clear that Coldplay entertained more than 260k people amidst their “Music of the Spheres World Tour Concert” in 2023.

Maybe it is because of the additional concert date that the US has, but the attendance in the US seemed to have surpassed the attendance in England for Coldplay’s 2023 leg of the “Music of the Spheres World Tour.”

Revenue Generated

In this part of the article, we’ll compare the reported revenue generated during Coldplay’s visits to England and the US for the “Music of the Spheres World Tour” 2023 leg.

$24,164.085 was reportedly cashed in by Coldplay when they visited Manchester, England in 2023. Usually, this figure is the number of tickets sold for the show. But, in the case of Coldplay, this also includes the profit made from the sales of tour merchandise.

In the US, Coldplay cashed in $8,124,415 when they visited Seattle. Recall that the concert was for a single night, and the attendance was just slightly above 60k people. This means that every single soul present that night spent approximately $134 to be there.

But, this is just a rough estimate since we know from Ticketmaster’s confession that not all Coldplay tickets sold for the same price, especially in the US.

Additionally, Coldplay reportedly cashed in $10,355,147 from San Diego, where they performed for 2 nights in Snapdragon Stadium, which was filled with 64k people on both nights.

Progressively, the British band also cashed in $19,019,116 from Pasadena, where they performed to more than 136k people in the Rose Bowl.

Summing these figures together, it’s clear that Coldplay cashed in over $30 million from the 5 nights they entertained their fans in the US, in the 2023 leg of the “Music of the Spheres World Tour.”

In this part of the comparison, we’d like to identify the contributing factor to why the US seems to be in the lead here, and that is, “Numbers.” But, that might not be the case entirely, since Amsterdam, which also hosted Coldplay for 4 nights, just like England, generated revenue of $30,322,573, which is close to the revenue of all the 3 different cities that Coldplay had to visit in the US, in 2023.

Nonetheless, Coldplay generated more revenue in the US than in England, in the 2023 leg of their 8 th career tour.

One thing about fan rep is that one cannot deny its existence. We decided to add this in the comparison to spice things up and remind people about the power of Google.

A quick search on Google revealed how much fans of Coldplay in individual cities hyped the concert, before and after it happened.

To get the result of how much hype Coldplay got from Coldplayers in England, before and after their concert, we inserted the keyword, “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2023 – England,” and we received 864,000 results within 0.51 seconds.

We tried to get the same result from Google, to know how much hype Coldplay got from Coldplayers in the US, but this time, changing the keyword and replacing, “England,” with “United States,” and we got 699,000 results within 0.50 seconds.

For those who don’t understand how this works, these results contain all the times people make a post with any of the used keywords. This can be on any platform like YouTube, Blogs and web pages, including TikTok as the case may be.

As you can see, the Coldplayers in England seem to be quite jolly about Coldplay since their query returned a bigger result than that of the US.

Coldplay Shares Results of Sustainability Initiatives From "Music Of The Spheres" World Tour

Including the planting of 5 million trees..

Coldplay Music of the Spheres Tour Sustainability efforts report

Coldplay has shared a report of its ongoing sustainability initiatives for its “Music Of The Spheres” world tour, which has been assessed and validated by Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Environmental Solutions Initiative Professor John E. Fernandez.

So far, their sustainability initiatives have resulted in a 47% reduction in direct CO2e emissions compared to their previous 2016-2017 tour on a show-by-show basis, 5 million trees planted that will be supported to maturity via One Tree Planted, 5,000 hectares of land restored across 17 countries and 21 planting projects, a solar-powered River Interceptor deployed in the Klang River, Malaysia via The Ocean Cleanup, the removal of 158 tonnes of waste and 13 tonnes of ocean-bound plastic and an 86% average return rate of the reusable, plant-based LED wristbands.

“When we first announced the Music Of The Spheres Tour, we hoped to make it as environmentally beneficial as possible and reduce our direct carbon emissions (from show production, freight, band and crew travel) by 50%. We’d like to share how it’s been going; some things work and some things need improving. The emissions data from the first 12 months of the tour has now been collated, assessed and independently validated by Prof. John E. Fernandez of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative. On a show-by-show comparison, the Music Of The Spheres Tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e emissions than our last stadium tour (2016-17). This is a good start – and something that our incredible crew should be very proud of – but clearly there’s still room for improvement. Now that we’re into the second year of the tour, we’ve started to run the entire show (audio, lights, lasers etc) from an electric battery system that allows us to use 100% renewable energy as efficiently as possible. We have been using electric vehicles and alternative fuels wherever we can, as well as reducing waste and plastic usage to a minimum. Thankyou to all the brilliant people and creative minds who’ve helped us so far. Thankyou too, SO MUCH, to everyone who’s come to a show and made all of this possible. You have helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; travelled to shows by foot, bicycle or public transport; used the recycling bins; ride-shared; brought refillable water bottles; returned the LED wristbands after the show. And just by coming you have had a tree planted, and helped a range of environmental organisations like The Ocean Cleanup and ClientEarth (a team of lawyers who defend the environment). Thankyou all and hopefully this time next year we will have made big improvements. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to send them via this link. With love Coldplay”

Coldplay says they've beaten their emissions target for 'Music of the Spheres' world tour

Coldplay says they've beaten their emissions target for 'Music of the Spheres' world tour

Coldplay has beaten its emissions target for their "Music of the Spheres" World tour.

On social media, the band proudly shared the great green news, saying "the first two years of this tour is 59% less than our previous stadium tour on a show-by-show comparison."

In their statement, Coldplay said they initially planned to "reduce our direct carbon emissions (show production, freight, band and crew travel) by at least 50%."

The British band also made sure to include a statement from Prof. John E. Fernandez of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, which verified the figures.

"This latest analysis of Coldplay's impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry. The data and the methods of analysis support the conclusion that substantial profess has been made to reduce emissions in touring.," Fernandez said.

Coldyplay made ambitious sustainability commitments when it announced the "Music of the Spheres" World Tour back in 2021 . Apart from pledging to cut their tour emissions by 50%, Coldplay also committed to having renewable energy power their shows, with solar panels at every concert, as well as power bikes and kinetic dance floors, where fans can charge the show battery to power the C stage at the following show.

The band also pledged to plant one tree for every ticket sold and attempted the reuse system for the compostable plant-based LED wristband it distributed to concert goers and which were to be collected at the end of each show.

When Coldplay performed In the Philippines last January, bike racks and EV chargers were made available on site, while concert goers were encouraged to bring refillable rubber bottles as water stations were scattered throughout the concourse and the field.

Power bikes and kinetic dance floors were also present in Bulacan, as well as reusable LED wristbands.

Unfortunately, the Philippines had the lowest return rate of the wristbands at a measly 87%.

A 2023 study by Plymouth University commissioned by Break Free from Plastic put forward reuse as a solution to the plastic problem , saying reuse best fits closed systems like concerts or food courts. For it to work best, the reusables must not look like collectibles, otherwise attendees will take them home.

Despite this, Coldplay is celebrating its sustainability success. Cutting carbon emissions, also referred to as greenhouse gas emissions, is among the most important things to do for the world to curb the climate crisis and meet the 1.5C target set in the Paris Agreement of 2015.

At the moment, the world has warmed 1.2C so every bit of climate action helps — including those initiated by Coldplay in making their tour less carbon intensive.

Touring — with flights, freight, and power — is carbon intensive and an important aspect of the music industry. In its statement, Coldplay acknowledged that "as a band and as an industry, we're a long way from where we need to be."

But the band is leading the music industry — as well as millions of people around the world who count themselves as Coldplay fans — with their sustainability efforts.

In their statement, the band thanked "everyone who's come to a show and helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; everyone whose arrived by foot, bike, ride share or public transport; everyone who's come with refillable water bottles or returned their LED wristband for recycling; and everyone who's bought a ticket, which means you've already planted one of 7 million trees so far," it said.

Coldplay played a two-night show in the Philippines last January. Jikamarie was the opening act while Lola Amour served as surprise guest on the first night.

Among those in attendance were the Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Direct CO2e emissions from the first two years of the Music of the Spheres Tour are 59% less than the band's previous stadium tour

Coldplay have revealed they have beaten their target for cutting carbon emissions on their Music of the Spheres World Tour .

The band’s tour announcement back in late 2021 came hand-in-hand with a 12-point plan for cutting their carbon footprint, including a pledge to reduce their direct carbon emissions from show production, freight, band and crew travel by at least 50% compared with their previous A Head Full of Dreams  stadium tour.

In their last update in June 2023 , the group said the tour had produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their 2016/17 trek. Twelve months on, they have improved on those figures significantly.

“We’re happy to report that direct CO2e emissions from the first two years of this tour are 59% less than our previous stadium tour, on a show-by-show comparison,” say Coldplay in a statement. “These figures have been verified by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible touring family and to all the brilliant people who’ve made this possible. Most of all, we’d like to thank everyone who’s come to a show and helped charge the show batteries on the power bikes and kinetic dance floors; everyone who’s arrived by foot, bike, ride share or public transport; everyone who’s come with refillable water bottles or returned their LED wristband for recycling; and everyone who’s bought a ticket, which means you’ve planted one of seven million trees so far.

“As a band, and as an industry, we’re a long way from where we need to be on this. But we’re grateful for everyone’s help so far, and we salute everyone who’s making efforts to push things in the right direction.”

A comprehensive study of the live music industry’s carbon footprint is being conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), co-funded by Coldplay, Live Nation and Warner Music Group (WMG).

Coldplay also launched a free app for fans as part of their pledge to make the tour as eco-friendly as possible. Highlights from the ongoing trek have included an 86% average return and re-use rate of LED wristbands, 18 shows powered entirely using the tourable battery system in 2023 made from recycled BMW i3 batteries and 23 partnerships with green travel providers to help fans travel to shows via super-low carbon transport.

“This latest analysis of Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry”

In addition, 17kWh average power per show has been generated via in-venue solar installations, kinetic dance floors and power bikes – enough to power the band’s C-stage performance each night.

All shows have offered free water refill stations for fans, while over 3,000 tCO2e has been saved by purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for flights, and 72% of all tour waste has been diverted from landfill and sent for reuse, recycling and composting, while 9,625 meals and 90kg of toiletries donated from tour catering to the unhoused and unsheltered.

“For some time now, Coldplay has been leading by example in taking seriously and acting on the various interrelated environmental and social challenges facing humanity; climate change, biodiversity loss, air and water pollution, environmental injustice and more,” says Prof. John E. Fernández of MIT.

“With each subsequent year of their tour they demonstrate an evolving vision and expanded commitment to move the entire music industry toward true and humane sustainability and planetary resilience. From collecting unprecedented amounts of data to taking specific actions today based on rigorous analysis, Coldplay is modelling a trajectory toward a low carbon, biodiverse and equitable future.

“This latest analysis of Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry. The data and the methods of analysis support the conclusion that substantial progress has been made to reduce emissions in touring.”

The  Music of the Spheres Tour  could see Coldplay become the  first band to gross $1 billion  from a single tour. At last count it had earned $810.9m, having been attended by 7.66 million fans. This June,  the group will become the first act to headline Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage five times . They previously topped the bill in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016. The date will mark the band’s only European festival appearance of the year.

Coldplay 'set a new standard' with tour sustainability initiatives: See what they've done

C urrently on the road hitting arenas overseas on their Music Of The Spheres World Tour , Coldplay has updated fans on the band's sustainability initiatives after pledging to reduce its carbon footprint when first setting out.

Now nearing the end of their trek celebrating 2021's Music Of The Spheres , Coldplay says the band and crew have managed to produce 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous 2016/2017 stadium tour, exceeding their original target of a 50% reduction . They also revealed that after 9 million tickets sold so far, an impressive 7 million trees have already been planted as part of Coldplay’s commitment to plant a tree for every concertgoer attending the tour.

On Monday, June 3, the band shared on their social channels: "When we first announced the Music Of The Spheres Tour in 2021, we pledged to reduce our direct carbon emissions (from show production, freight, band and crew travel) by at least 50%. As a band, and as an industry, we’re a long way from where we need to be on this. But we’re grateful for everyone’s help so far, and we salute everyone who’s making efforts to push things in the right direction."

This data, they add, has been assessed and validated by Professor John E. Fernandez of MIT 's (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Environmental Solutions Initiative , who says: “Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry.”
