Oman travel advice

Latest updates: Editorial change

Last updated: June 5, 2024 06:24 ET

On this page

Safety and security, entry and exit requirements, laws and culture, natural disasters and climate, oman - exercise a high degree of caution.

Exercise a high degree of caution in Oman due to the potential for violent demonstrations and the threat of terrorism.

Border with Yemen - AVOID NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL

Avoid non-essential travel to the area within 10 km of the border with Yemen, due to the ongoing conflict in that country.

Border with Yemen

Avoid approaching the Yemeni border due to the ongoing conflict in Yemen. Crossing the Yemen–Oman border can be difficult and very dangerous. Houthi militias and other forces operating in Yemen do not normally engage in cross-border exercises. However, you should be extremely cautious near the border due to the potential spillover of violence.

There is a threat of terrorism. Terrorist attacks could occur at any time. Targets could include:

  • government buildings, including schools
  • places of worship
  • airports and other transportation hubs and networks
  • Western interests
  • public areas such as tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, shopping centres, markets, hotels and other sites frequented by foreigners

Always be aware of your surroundings when in public places.

The crime rate is low and violence is rare. Robbery and auto theft occur. Do not show signs of affluence, and ensure that your belongings, including your passport and other travel documents, are secure at all times.

  • Do not travel alone after dark
  • Lock car doors and keep windows closed
  • Do not leave vehicles unattended
  • Upon returning to your vehicle, inspect both its exterior and interior for any attached device or suspicious package
  • Be suspicious of mail and packages from unfamiliar sources
  • Contact your visa sponsor or the police if you suspect anything unusual

Demonstrations

Demonstrations may occur. Even peaceful demonstrations can turn violent at any time. They can also lead to disruptions to traffic and public transportation.

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Monitor local media for information on ongoing demonstrations

Mass gatherings (large-scale events)

Women’s safety

Women travelling alone may be subject to some forms of harassment and verbal abuse.

Women have been detained when reporting sexual assault, as they must prove that the sex was not consensual to avoid being charged. Oman’s laws criminalize extramarital sex.

Advice for women travellers

Road safety

Roads conditions in Oman are generally good. Exercise caution when driving in rural areas, especially after dark, because of roaming animals, insufficient lighting, speeding drivers and limited visibility.

Rainfall can cause significant flooding on roads, particularly during the rainy season.

Off-road driving can be hazardous. If engaging in off-road driving:

  • drive in a convoy of four-wheel-drive vehicles and with an experienced guide only
  • inform a family member or friend of your itinerary
  • be well prepared and equipped with gasoline, water, food and a cellular or satellite phone if you are driving in the desert areas of Wahiba and Rub’ Al Khali

Cell phones may have limited or no service in remote areas, which can become especially dangerous if you experience vehicle problems while driving in desert areas.

Public Transportation

Taxis are generally safe.

  • Use only officially marked taxis
  • Negotiate fares in advance, or insist that the driver use the meter, as you may be overcharged

We do not make assessments on the compliance of foreign domestic airlines with international safety standards.

Information about foreign domestic airlines

Exercise caution if travelling by sea, including for recreational purposes, in the Gulf of Oman and the Northern Arabian Sea regions due to an increased risk of maritime attack.

Pirate attacks and armed robbery against ships occur in coastal waters of the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean and, in some cases, farther out at sea. Mariners should take appropriate precautions.

Live piracy report - International Maritime Bureau’s Piracy Reporting Centre

Adventure tourism

Only undertake adventure sports, such as zip-lining and rock climbing, with a well-established and reputable company that has insurance.

Tour operators may not adhere to international standards. If you have any doubt concerning the safety of the installation or equipment, refrain from using them. Ensure that the recreational activities you choose are covered by your travel insurance.

If engaging in adventure tourism:

  • never do so alone and always hire an experienced guide from a reputable company
  • buy travel insurance that includes helicopter rescue and medical evacuation
  • ensure that your physical condition is good enough to meet the challenges of your activity
  • ensure that you’re properly equipped and well informed about weather and other conditions that may  pose a hazard
  • obtain detailed information on each activity before setting out and do not venture off marked trails

Every country or territory decides who can enter or exit through its borders. The Government of Canada cannot intervene on your behalf if you do not meet your destination’s entry or exit requirements.

We have obtained the information on this page from Omani authorities. It can, however, change at any time.

Verify this information with the  Foreign Representatives in Canada .

The Government of Canada can’t facilitate your entry into or exit from Oman.

Entry requirements vary depending on the type of passport you use for travel.

Before you travel, check with your transportation company about passport requirements. Its rules on passport validity may be more stringent than the country’s entry rules.

Regular Canadian passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry to Oman.

Passport for official travel

Different entry rules may apply.

Official travel

Passport with “X” gender identifier

While the Government of Canada issues passports with an “X” gender identifier, it cannot guarantee your entry or transit through other countries. You might face entry restrictions in countries that do not recognize the “X” gender identifier. Before you leave, check with the closest foreign representative for your destination.

Other travel documents

Different entry rules may apply when travelling with a temporary passport or an emergency travel document. Before you leave, check with the closest foreign representative for your destination.

The Omani authorities may deny you entry if your passport shows an X in the “sex” field or if it includes an observation to that effect.

Tourism visa: not required for stays up to 14 days Business visa: required Student visa: required

You can obtain and pay for a visa upon arrival at Muscat International Airport. You can also apply for an e-visa before you travel through the Royal Oman Police portal.

  • Oman eVisa  - Royal Oman Police

Omani employers must obtain a work visa and a single-entry for you, either before or after you arrive. Omani employers often insist on retaining foreign employees’ passports as a condition of employment. This practice is illegal. Do not agree to this, as it could restrict your ability to travel and provide leverage to the employer in disputes.

Regional travel

Canadians have been denied entry into Oman because their passports bore an Israeli visa, an Israeli border stamp, or an Egyptian or Jordanian border stamp issued by an office bordering Israel. Such a stamp would indicate the traveler has been in Israel.

Some areas of the country are considered of strategic importance and cannot be visited without authorization from Omani authorities.

Relevant Travel Health Notices

  • Global Measles Notice - 13 March, 2024
  • COVID-19 and International Travel - 13 March, 2024

This section contains information on possible health risks and restrictions regularly found or ongoing in the destination. Follow this advice to lower your risk of becoming ill while travelling. Not all risks are listed below.

Consult a health care professional or visit a travel health clinic preferably 6 weeks before you travel to get personalized health advice and recommendations.

Routine vaccines

Be sure that your  routine vaccinations , as per your province or territory , are up-to-date before travelling, regardless of your destination.

Some of these vaccinations include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, varicella (chickenpox), influenza and others.

Pre-travel vaccines and medications

You may be at risk for preventable diseases while travelling in this destination. Talk to a travel health professional about which medications or vaccines may be right for you, based on your destination and itinerary.

There is a risk of hepatitis A in this destination. It is a disease of the liver. People can get hepatitis A if they ingest contaminated food or water, eat foods prepared by an infectious person, or if they have close physical contact (such as oral-anal sex) with an infectious person, although casual contact among people does not spread the virus.

Practise  safe food and water precautions and wash your hands often. Vaccination is recommended for all travellers to areas where hepatitis A is present.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease. It can spread quickly from person to person by direct contact and through droplets in the air.

Anyone who is not protected against measles is at risk of being infected with it when travelling internationally.

Regardless of where you are going, talk to a health care professional before travelling to make sure you are fully protected against measles.

Hepatitis B is a risk in every destination. It is a viral liver disease that is easily transmitted from one person to another through exposure to blood and body fluids containing the hepatitis B virus.  Travellers who may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids (e.g., through sexual contact, medical treatment, sharing needles, tattooing, acupuncture or occupational exposure) are at higher risk of getting hepatitis B.

Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for all travellers. Prevent hepatitis B infection by practicing safe sex, only using new and sterile drug equipment, and only getting tattoos and piercings in settings that follow public health regulations and standards.

The best way to protect yourself from seasonal influenza (flu) is to get vaccinated every year. Get the flu shot at least 2 weeks before travelling.

 The flu occurs worldwide.

  •  In the Northern Hemisphere, the flu season usually runs from November to   April.
  •  In the Southern Hemisphere, the flu season usually runs between April and   October.
  •  In the tropics, there is flu activity year round.

The flu vaccine available in one hemisphere may only offer partial protection against the flu in the other hemisphere.

The flu virus spreads from person to person when they cough or sneeze or by touching objects and surfaces that have been contaminated with the virus. Clean your hands often and wear a mask if you have a fever or respiratory symptoms.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious viral disease. It can spread from person to person by direct contact and through droplets in the air.

It is recommended that all eligible travellers complete a COVID-19 vaccine series along with any additional recommended doses in Canada before travelling. Evidence shows that vaccines are very effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. While vaccination provides better protection against serious illness, you may still be at risk of infection from the virus that causes COVID-19. Anyone who has not completed a vaccine series is at increased risk of being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 and is at greater risk for severe disease when travelling internationally.

Before travelling, verify your destination’s COVID-19 vaccination entry/exit requirements. Regardless of where you are going, talk to a health care professional before travelling to make sure you are adequately protected against COVID-19.

Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal disease that is caused by parasites spread through the bites of mosquitoes.   Limited malaria transmission may occur in this destination, but risk to travellers is very low.    Antimalarial medication is not recommended for most travellers. Consult a health care professional or visit a travel health clinic before travelling to discuss your options. It is recommended to do this 6 weeks before travel, however, it is still a good idea any time before leaving.    Protect yourself from mosquito bites at all times:

  • Cover your skin and use an approved insect repellent on uncovered skin.
  • Exclude mosquitoes from your living area with screening and/or closed, well-sealed doors and windows.
  • Use insecticide-treated bed nets if mosquitoes cannot be excluded from your living area.
  • Wear permethrin-treated clothing.

If you develop symptoms similar to malaria when you are travelling or up to a year after you return home, see a health care professional immediately. Tell them where you have been travelling or living.

Yellow fever   is a disease caused by a flavivirus from the bite of an infected mosquito.

Travellers get vaccinated either because it is required to enter a country or because it is recommended for their protection.

  • There is no risk of yellow fever in this country.

Country Entry Requirement*

  • Proof of vaccination is required if you are coming from or have transited through an airport of a country   where yellow fever occurs . Proof of vaccination is also required for travellers coming from or having transited through, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Recommendation

  • Vaccination is not recommended.
  • Discuss travel plans, activities, and destinations with a health care professional.
  • Contact a designated   Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre   well in advance of your trip to arrange for vaccination.

About Yellow Fever

Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres in Canada * It is important to note that   country entry requirements   may not reflect your risk of yellow fever at your destination. It is recommended that you contact the nearest   diplomatic or consular office   of the destination(s) you will be visiting to verify any additional entry requirements.

In this destination, rabies is carried by dogs and some wildlife, including bats. Rabies is a deadly disease that spreads to humans primarily through bites or scratches from an infected animal. While travelling, take precautions , including keeping your distance from animals (including free-roaming dogs), and closely supervising children.

If you are bitten or scratched by an animal while travelling, immediately wash the wound with soap and clean water and see a health care professional. Rabies treatment is often available in this destination.

Before travel, discuss rabies vaccination with a health care professional. It may be recommended for travellers who are at high risk of exposure (e.g., occupational risk such as veterinarians and wildlife workers, children, adventure travellers and spelunkers, and others in close contact with animals).

Safe food and water precautions

Many illnesses can be caused by eating food or drinking beverages contaminated by bacteria, parasites, toxins, or viruses, or by swimming or bathing in contaminated water.

  • Learn more about food and water precautions to take to avoid getting sick by visiting our eat and drink safely abroad page. Remember: Boil it, cook it, peel it, or leave it!
  • Avoid getting water into your eyes, mouth or nose when swimming or participating in activities in freshwater (streams, canals, lakes), particularly after flooding or heavy rain. Water may look clean but could still be polluted or contaminated.
  • Avoid inhaling or swallowing water while bathing, showering, or swimming in pools or hot tubs.

Typhoid   is a bacterial infection spread by contaminated food or water. Risk is higher among children, travellers going to rural areas, travellers visiting friends and relatives or those travelling for a long period of time.

Travellers visiting regions with a risk of typhoid, especially those exposed to places with poor sanitation, should speak to a health care professional about vaccination.

Insect bite prevention

Many diseases are spread by the bites of infected insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas or flies. When travelling to areas where infected insects may be present:

  • Use insect repellent (bug spray) on exposed skin
  • Cover up with light-coloured, loose clothes made of tightly woven materials such as nylon or polyester
  • Minimize exposure to insects
  • Use mosquito netting when sleeping outdoors or in buildings that are not fully enclosed

To learn more about how you can reduce your risk of infection and disease caused by bites, both at home and abroad, visit our insect bite prevention page.

Find out what types of insects are present where you’re travelling, when they’re most active, and the symptoms of the diseases they spread.

There is a risk of chikungunya in this country.  The risk may vary between regions of a country.  Chikungunya is a virus spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Chikungunya can cause a viral disease that typically causes fever and pain in the joints. In some cases, the joint pain can be severe and last for months or years.

Protect yourself from mosquito bites at all times. There is no vaccine available for chikungunya.

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever is a viral disease that can cause fever, pain and bleeding under the skin.  In some cases, it can be fatal.  It spreads to humans through contact with infected animal blood or tissues, or from the bite of an infected tick.  Risk is generally low for most travellers.  Protect yourself from tick bites and avoid animals, particularly livestock.  There is no vaccine available for Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever.

  • In this country, risk of  dengue  is sporadic. It is a viral disease spread to humans by mosquito bites.
  • Dengue can cause flu-like symptoms. In some cases, it can lead to severe dengue, which can be fatal.
  • The level of risk of dengue changes seasonally, and varies from year to year. The level of risk also varies between regions in a country and can depend on the elevation in the region.
  • Mosquitoes carrying dengue typically bite during the daytime, particularly around sunrise and sunset.
  • Protect yourself from mosquito bites . There is no vaccine or medication that protects against dengue fever.

Animal precautions

Some infections, such as rabies and influenza, can be shared between humans and animals. Certain types of activities may increase your chance of contact with animals, such as travelling in rural or forested areas, camping, hiking, and visiting wet markets (places where live animals are slaughtered and sold) or caves.

Travellers are cautioned to avoid contact with animals, including dogs, livestock (pigs, cows), monkeys, snakes, rodents, birds, and bats, and to avoid eating undercooked wild game.

Closely supervise children, as they are more likely to come in contact with animals.

Cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) have been reported in this destination. The risk to travellers is low; MERS is primarily spread through contact with camels or camel-based products (raw milk, meat, urine). It can also spread through close contact, such as when caring for an infected person.

Avoid contact with animals (especially camels), camel-based products, and wash your hands frequently.

Prevention of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)

MERS symptoms range from mild and flu-like to more severe pneumonia-like symptoms, and can result in death.

There is no vaccine or medication that protects against MERS.

Person-to-person infections

Stay home if you’re sick and practise proper cough and sneeze etiquette , which includes coughing or sneezing into a tissue or the bend of your arm, not your hand. Reduce your risk of colds, the flu and other illnesses by:

  •   washing your hands often
  • avoiding or limiting the amount of time spent in closed spaces, crowded places, or at large-scale events (concerts, sporting events, rallies)
  • avoiding close physical contact with people who may be showing symptoms of illness

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) , HIV , and mpox are spread through blood and bodily fluids; use condoms, practise safe sex, and limit your number of sexual partners. Check with your local public health authority pre-travel to determine your eligibility for mpox vaccine.

Medical services and facilities

Modern medical care is available in main cities but could be inadequate in remote areas. Immediate cash payment is often required.

Make sure you get travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and hospital stays.

Travel health and safety

Keep in Mind...

The decision to travel is the sole responsibility of the traveller. The traveller is also responsible for his or her own personal safety.

Be prepared. Do not expect medical services to be the same as in Canada. Pack a   travel health kit , especially if you will be travelling away from major city centres.

You must abide by local laws.

Learn about what you should do and how we can help if you are arrested or detained abroad .

Penalties for possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs are severe. Convicted offenders can expect lengthy jail sentences and heavy fines. The death penalty could apply.

Respect restrictions concerning the consumption of alcohol. Do not drink alcohol outside licensed hotels. Public intoxication is an offence.

Drugs, alcohol and travel

Prescription drugs

Prescription or over-the-counter drugs that are legal in Canada, such as those containing codeine, may be restricted in Oman. Possession of such drugs could lead to a jail sentence. Carry your original prescription and keep prescription medications in their original container.

International Child Abduction

The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is an international treaty. It can help parents with the return of children who have been removed to or retained in certain countries in violation of custody rights. It does not apply between Canada and Oman.

Child custody decisions are based on Islamic law (Sharia). It is difficult for a Western woman, even a Muslim, to obtain custody of her children through a court decision. Minor children of an Omani-national father must have their father’s permission to leave the country.

Legal process

Witnesses to incidents, as well as suspects, may be held for lengthy periods without access to legal counsel or consular officials. If access is granted, it may be severely limited by the Omani authorities. Authorities may withhold the passport of an individual involved in a legal process, pending resolution of the case. This could result in the delay of a planned departure.

Dress and behaviour

The country’s customs, laws and regulations adhere closely to Islamic practices and beliefs. Dress conservatively, behave discreetly and respect religious and social traditions to avoid offending local sensitivities. It is prohibited to wear military or similar clothing and accessories. Certain public areas may be restricted to men or women only. The work week is from Sunday to Thursday.

Sex outside legal marriage is forbidden. It is against the law to live together or share the same hotel room with someone of the opposite sex to whom you aren’t married or closely related. Adultery and prostitution are illegal and are subject to severe punishment, including the death penalty. Avoid physical contact or displays of affection in public, including kissing and holding hands.

Omani authorities do not permit criticism of the government, the sultan or the society in general.

In 2024, the lunar month of Ramadan is expected to begin on or around March 10.

In public, between sunrise and sunset, refrain from:

 Offensive language

Exercise particular care in your behaviour with others, especially officials, to avoid offending local sensitivities. Do not use aggressive, vulgar or abusive language or gestures in public, including on social media. Verbal insults and obscene gestures may be considered a criminal act and, if found guilty, you could face deportation, fines and a prison sentence.

Culturally acceptable content

Books, videotapes and audio tapes may be reviewed by airport and other customs authorities prior to being released to the owner to ensure that their content is culturally acceptable

Possession of pornographic material is forbidden.

The currency of Oman is the Omani Rial (OMR).

Credit cards and U.S. dollar traveller’s cheques are widely accepted.

The rainy season extends from May to September. Seasonal flooding can hamper overland travel and reduce the provision of essential services. Roads may become impassable and bridges damaged.

Flooding occurs in the far south during the rainy season. Heavy rains may cause wadis (dry riverbeds) to overflow, flooding underpasses and tunnels. Oman is subject to cyclones and tropical depressions, which are accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain. Flash floods and mudslides may occur.

Sand and dust storms occur during the dry season.

The timeless traditions of the desert live on in Oman. Here's how to get a visa to Oman and experience them yourself © Westend61 / Getty

Home to stunning dive sites, intriguing archeological ruins, historic forts and souqs (markets) and some of the region’s best hiking trails, Oman promises an unforgettable travel experience. Visas to visit this complex, storied land are easy to obtain, but there's some red tape to navigate compared to its Gulf neighbors.

Many people visit Oman after spending a few days in Dubai in the neighboring United Arab Emirates, but you may feel a bit overwhelmed by the visa process for Oman. Whether you plan to relax on the beach, explore history Muscat, or go hiking in the Hajar Mountains, here’s a guide to the latest visa requirements for this fascinating desert sultanate.

Who needs a visa to visit Oman?

Citizens of 103 countries – including the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and most EU and EEA nations – can visit Oman without a visa, so long as the stay does not exceed 14 days. See the website of the Foreign Ministry of Oman for a full list of countries approved for visa-free travel.

Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, can travel to Oman completely visa-free. If you're unsure about the rules for your nationality, check the website of the Royal Oman Police – the body responsible for overseeing Oman's immigration system.

All visa-exempt visitors need to present evidence of confirmed hotel bookings for the entire duration of their stay, plus health insurance and a return travel ticket leaving Oman within the visa-free period. Your passport should also be valid for at least six months after the date you arrive in Oman.

Additional requirements for visa-free travel

Citizens of some countries on the approved list, such as Mexico, India and Jordan, can only visit Oman without a visa if they hold a valid Schengen Area visa or a valid visa for the US, Canada, Australia, UK or Japan (or are legally resident in one of these countries). Consult the Royal Oman Police website for more information.

How to stay in Oman longer than 14 days

Apart from visitors from GCC countries, all travelers require a tourist visa to enter Oman if they intend to stay in the country for more than 14 days. Applications for all types of tourist visas must be made online on the official Oman e-visa website before arriving in Oman.

Visas for tourists who are GCC residents

Visitors who are resident in the GCC but hold different citizenship can apply for a Resident Tourist Visa so long as they are employed in a profession on Oman's approved list (or accompanied by someone in one of those professions). These visas cost OR5 (US$13) and allow stays in Oman of up to 28 days.

Applications must be made via the official Oman e-visa website, and your GCC residence visa must be valid for at least six months after entry into Oman.

Visa for tourists who are not GCC residents

Tourists who are not residents in a GCC country who want to visit Oman for more than 14 days will need to apply online for an Unsponsored Visit Visa. There are various types of Unsponsored Visit Visas, valid for tourism, business travel or transiting through the country, and each has its own rules and conditions.

It's best to check which class of visa you’re eligible to apply for and the visa conditions via the visa eligibility tool on the official Royal Oman Police website.

Visas for 30-day stays in Oman

Citizens of 72 countries – including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Japan, and many European countries – can apply for a 26B Tourist Visit Visa, a single-entry visa that allows you to stay in Oman for 30 days. This costs OR20 (US$52), and applications must be made on the official website where a full list of eligible nationalities is available.

The same nationalities can also apply for the 36B Tourist Visit Visa, a long-term, multiple-entry visa that is valid for one year and allows a maximum stay of 30 days in Oman for each visit. It costs OR50 (US$130).

Other classes of Tourist Visit Visas

Citizens from other countries who have a valid Schengen Area visa or a valid visa for the US, UK, Canada, Australia or Japan may be eligible to apply for a single-entry 26M Tourist Visit Visa for OR20 (US$52), or a one-year multiple-entry 36M Tourist Visit Visa for OR50 (US$130). The list of approved countries includes India, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Maldives, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

How to visit Oman from Dubai

Travelers who fulfill the conditions for visa-exempt entry into Oman and have a valid tourist visa for Dubai can apply for a Type 21 Dubai/Oman Common Visa (also called the Dubai/Oman Joint Visa). This free single-entry visa allows a stay of up to 21 days in Oman and is not extendable. It is only valid if you enter Oman directly from Dubai (and not from any other emirate in the UAE).

You can apply for this visa through the Consulate General of the Sultanate of Oman in Dubai. To qualify for this class of visa, your Dubai tourist visa must have at least 21 days validity remaining on the date you enter Oman.

Other visa options for Oman

Five and 10-year multiple-entry visas are available for US diplomatic passport holders and US citizens who are visiting Oman to attend a training course or as a member of an international organization registered in Oman, such as the World Health Organization. To apply, you’ll need to submit additional documents detailing the purpose of your visit.

Applying for a visa for Oman

When applying for an Omani visa via the official e-visa portal , ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after the date you plan to enter Oman. You will need to submit a photograph, a copy of your passport, a hotel booking, and confirmed flight tickets confirming the dates of your entry and departure from Oman.

Visa processing times can vary depending on the type of visa – expect the process to take anything from 24 hours to a few days. To ensure that your visa is authorized before you check in for your flight, apply online at least four days in advance of your trip.

Even if you intend to drive to Oman from Dubai and enter through a land border, it's wise to apply online for the right type of visa before you travel. Hard copy application forms allowing you to apply for an Omani visa on arrival may be available at the border, but this system is being phased out, and wait times can be several hours.

Overstays and visa extensions for Oman

If you overstay your visa, a fine of OR10 (US$26) applies for every day beyond the term allowed on your visa, and you may have trouble entering Oman in future. Single-entry tourist visas can be extended for another 30 days, multiple-entry tourist visas cannot be extended – you can apply for a visa extension on the official e-visa portal.

Visa policy of the kingdom of oman.

The visa policy of the Kingdom of Oman regulates the inflow and outflow of foreign nationals and those eligible for visas. This policy determines who can enter Oman and the type of visa they will need. It also clearly states the nationalities that are exempted from visas and those that are not exempted. Based on the Foreigners’ Residence Law of 1995, a visitor not eligible for an electronic visa must apply for a tourist visa or any other type of visa at the Omani embassy in their country.

Furthermore, the law specifies that a foreigner who chooses to stay beyond the number of days agreed under their visa or e-visa arrangement will have to apply for a residence permit while they are in the country, and the foreigner shall lose their rights to residency if they live outside Oman continuously for up to 6 months in a year or 18 months within three years.

Subsequently, the Omani Royal Police, empowered by law to issue visas and residency permits, announced a new online visa system in 2018 for visitors coming into Oman for a short time. This electronic visa is specially designed for tourism and other social engagement that will not exceed a few days or months, depending on their nationality. The e-visa is electronically linked to the visitor’s passport and allows them to enter Oman by land or air. Oman e visa is only for citizens of visa exempt countries not all nationals.  If you are ineligible for Oman visa you should apply for a consular visa by visiting a foreign mission to submit a physical visa application

There are three types of e-visas, namely the Single-entry visa, multiple entry visa, and the GCC Resident Single-entry visa, and citizens from more than 220 countries qualify for this visa program. However, travelers from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia do not require visas to enter Oman according to their visa policy if they have a residency visa issued by any of these countries.  The agreement between all Gulf countries allows for free entry and exit for citizens and foreigners alike.

Countries On The Oman e Visa Eligibility

Only applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria will be issued an e visa

  • They must be nationals of designated countries
  • They must come hang passports issue by their home government which is valid for at least 6 months
  • The duration of their stay must be short term not exceeding the legal timeframe

Key Information About The Oman

As you prepare for your trip to Oman there are vital details you should keep in mind and we review them below.

Respect the Local Laws: When you visit Oman it is in your best interest to respect the customary laws of the locals.  Oman is a deeply religious society with strong cultural values which must be respected by visitors and citizens alike. Alcohol consumption is prohibited, and so is indecent dressing. To know more, do some research about the country ahead of your visit.

Applying For Extensions: The body responsible for approving extensions is the Royal Oman Police. If you decide for any reason that you need to stay longer than your visa permits, apply for an extension in advance.  Do not wait until your visa expires before applying.  The officer handling your case will ask questions about why you need more time and the number of extra days given will be at his discretion.

Your Visa Is Connected To Your Passport: Make sure you travel to Oman using the same passport you used for the application as it is Connected. If you travel with a different passport you will not be allowed into the country as the authorization will assume that you have no visa.

Visa For GCC Residents: If you are a resident of any of the GCC countries and you wish to apply for a GCC residency visa, make sure the resident permit issued by your host country is valid otherwise your application will be denied or you will be turned back at the entry port. Also note that if you are a legal resident in Oman you can use your Oman residence permit to visit other GCC countries as well.

Not For Work: Your Omani e visa is issued solely for tourism, business and tourism and you are not allowed to work during your time in the country. If you want to apply to work in Oman you will need a work visa issued by the Royal Oman Police. For work visa applications your employer will need to apply on your behalf by providing all your details to the authorities.

Oman At A Glance

Oman is an Arab country in the Middle East, officially called the Sultanate of Oman. It operates a monarchical system of government with the seat of power in Muscat. Oman is famous for its dates and herbs but is also rich in minerals like bitumen and petroleum.

Just like many other Arab states, the petroleum industry has greatly enriched Oman and turned it into an Eldorado in the desert. Intensive investment in tourism as a major revenue earner and the services sector has greatly contributed to the wealth of the kingdom.

Today, Oman is a top business destination in the Middle East, with a lot of multinational companies and startups setting up shops in the kingdom. This has opened up the country to tourists, business executives, and expatriates who visit all year round.

Oman Business Visa

The business express visa of Oman is a travel permit that gives a visitor the legal right to enter the Kingdom for the sole purpose of transacting business. The visa is valid for 6 months and allows foreigners to visit Oman to attend business meetings and conferences, invest in emerging opportunities, or engage in any other business engagement that comes to mind. This visa is by no means a Work Visa since work visas are issued separately.

Instead, it is issued for commercial activities that will not earn the visitor direct wages for their work.

Do All Foreign Nationals Require a Visa?

Not all foreign nationals require a visa to enter Oman. Citizens from visa-exempt countries don’t need a visa. For instance, citizens of GCC countries like UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, etc., don’t require a visa to enter Oman as they can do so with their passports. However, those who are not from Visa exempt countries have to secure a visa first before making the trip to Oman. Failure to secure a visa may lead to deportation.

How To Apply For Oman Business Visa

How to Get a Canadian Visa from Oman

How to Get a Canadian Visa from Oman

If you are interested in living in a country that offers you the perfect setting to raise a family, or perhaps even to take your career to the next level, then Canada might be the place for you.

Offering many benefits, you’ll be happy to find that  immigrating to Canada from Oman is easier than you may have initially imagined. As a socially and culturally diverse country, Canada, otherwise known as America’s Hat, offers diversity and is willing to extend opportunities to people from all over the world.

While the process of getting a Canadian visa from Oman may seem lengthy and does take some time, there are many programs, such as those under the Express Entry system, introduced by the Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC), that break down and simplify the process of immigration. With this system as only one good example of getting to where you want to go, there are more ways than one to make a successful move. Besides, if you manage to get a successful career going, settle your family in a secure and relaxed environment, and are finally able to follow your dreams and meet the prospects you have initiated in your mind, then, why not?

The Best Canadian Immigration Routes for Omanis

In Canada, there is not one, not two, but over a hundred immigration programs to choose from, which means that there is very likely one that is perfect for you too. With some of these programs, like the Express Entry system, it’s also possible to immigrate to Canada in as little as six to eight months, making it the ideal option for anyone that is looking for a change.

How Express Entry Works

As a system that is the main driver of Canada’s economic growth, the Express Entry system is necessary for you to apply for immigration through some of Canada’s top immigration programs, including:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class

With an expected immigration target through the Express Entry system of just over 320,000 for the next three years, if you apply for one of these programs and meet the requirements, you are almost guaranteed to gain permanent residency in Canada. With this, you are also likely to get a job fast, due to the country’s need for skilled professionals in various fields.

By meeting all the necessary requirements, you build your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which is made up by the following factors:

  • Human Capital Factors
  • Skill transferability
  • Spouse/ common-law partner
  • Additional factors

These factors take the following into account:

  • Education qualifications
  • Work experience
  • Language skills
  • Adaptability
  • Spouse or common-law partner

The first step for a successful application is to complete an online evaluation, followed by completing a language test in English, French, or both languages. If you would like to gain extra points, it is in your best interest to complete and pass both language tests, yet one will be efficient too if you meet the other requirements. You must also provide proof of a tertiary qualification(s), and work experience, which can be done by providing a letter from each of your previous employers, you must also provide information about the person you are married to or your common-law partner.

Once you have completed these requirements, you will undergo a biometrics screening and have to find out which job National Occupation Classification (NOC) you belong to. Next, you must create your Express Entry profile. If you are interested in finding a job in Canada, you can also visit the Canadian Job Bank .

The CRS score consists of 1,200 points, of which 600 are core points and 600 are additional points. Ideally, you need to score as high as possible to compete in the Express Entry Draw among a pool of applicants, which takes place every two weeks. Should you be selected, you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), which means that you have been approved to accept an offer of permanent residency that you need to accept within six months to get a visa to move to Canada.

Why Immigrate to Canada?

Visa application (1)

There are more than a handful of reasons why people simply love to immigrate to live in Canada. Ask anyone, whether it is a native or foreigner that has lived in Canada for a while, no matter where you are from, Canada is just one of those countries that are bound to grow on you. Is it the snow or the local animals that can’t seem to be found anywhere else in the world? Or, is there a bigger reason why it has been rated the number one country with the best quality of life?

Well, when it comes to living, whether you measure living a good life with variables such as making good money, having peace around you, a sound political system, or simply the fact that the country has over 250 ethnic cultures living in the country, take your pick, Canada offers it all.

Top reasons to move to Canada:

Canada has one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which is Toronto, named the fourth most beautiful city in the entire world. With its high quality of life rating, many factors are taken into account, including safety, technology, health, education, transport, ease of doing business, and living your most free life. Cities such as Montreal, Quebec, Calgary, Vancouver, and Ontario are all ranked extremely high for meeting these factors.

One of the biggest reasons why Canada is considered a terrific place to raise a family or find a job that you are happy in, is because people in Canada are very friendly and warm individuals. That means that not only will your children and entire family find it easy to adapt to Canada, but they will enjoy it. In the work environment, you will also find that the people around you are supportive and want you to win. Since Canada is also known for having some of the most friendly people in the world, it’s no doubt that making friends and building a new life can be a walk in the park.

In the world, things are a little shaky at the moment. Whether it’s the Covid-19 pandemic that makes us feel like we can’t move forward or grow in life or the injustices taking place globally, perhaps one of the biggest reasons why Canada is the ideal place to be, is because it’s so free. People are extremely accepting of each other and appreciate foreigners for moving to the country to strengthen the country. Every person, no matter what color, race, or religion, is also accepted as a person in Canada because everybody is valued as humans first and foremost, equally.

When it comes to enjoying life, apart from the stress-free feeling that Canada gives you, there are countless wide-open spaces that you can visit in the country. In this regard, Canada has a little of everything, including oceans, countryside, mountains, forests, and, of course, some of the best cities for entertainment globally. From cultural diversity in food, music, and fun activities in every province, you will never experience a dull moment.

With an appropriate visitor record, visitors can enter Canada and reside for up to 6 months. There are 2 types of visit visas available: single and multiple entry. Visitors can only enter Canada once with a single entry visa. A multiple-entry visa permits you to travel to and from Canada until it expires.

The main characteristics of a Canada visit visa are:

  • It is a temporary travel visa to Canada for family meetings, tourism, and business conferences.
  • No work permit or permission to study on a visit visa
  • Include family members in your completed form
  • Processing time is usually four weeks.
  • Foreigners with passports of specific nationalities don’t need a Canada visit visa from Oman; they need an eTA to explore Canada. However, USA citizens who already have a visa for Canada don’t need an eTA.
