Is there public transportation that i can use to get to the airport.

There is regular shuttle bus to/from Skopje International Airport for passengers that drives and stops at key bus stops throughout the City of Skopje and arrives at the airport. V2V Transporter manages and operates the shuttle buses for passengers. The shuttle bus timetable is prepared according to the arrivals/departures of flights at Skopje International Airport. What are the opening hours of the airport?

Skopje International Airport operates 24/7. Restaurants and cafes such as Cakes & Bakes, Café In, Burger King and NeedStop are available for the passengers at any time; business lounge (PrimeClass CIP Service) offers you comfort 24/7, while ATU Duty Free is opened as per the flights timetable and offers wide range of products.   

What is the earliest that I can check-in?

Check-in at the passenger and baggage check-in counters starts 180 minutes (3 hours) before the scheduled time of departure (STD) specified on your flight ticket. The closing time of the airport check-in counter is no later than 60 minutes before STD stated on your flight ticket. Since the beginning of COVID–19 pandemic, due to the requirements for different travel documents imposed by different countries, TAV Macedonia appeals to passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before take-off.

For information about your flight, please follow Skopje International Airport website, in the Arrivals and Departures section, where all changes to the flights schedule are updated in real time, i.e., as we receive information by airlines.

What am I allowed to carry on board the aircraft and what are the fees for baggage?

Passengers are allowed to carry on board free of charge items such as coat, 1 umbrella or walking stick, 1 ladies handbag, 1 camera or binoculars, 1 baby transporter, 1 pair of crutches or similar prosthetic aids, medical equipment on which the passenger is fully dependent, a reasonable quantity of baby food.

Regarding the baggage fees amount, please contact your airline, because each airline has its own baggage policy and applicable rules.

If you have any specific question about what you can or cannot carry, i.e. allowed/prohibited items, in your baggage, please send your question to our Customer Relations Department at [email protected] .

What should I do if my baggage is lost, or if I lose an item on the plane or find something at the airport?

In case of lost or damaged baggage, please immediately go to the Lost & Found Department, which is located near the baggage claim area, i.e. in the Arrivals Area after Passport Control and before Customs Control. Our employees from L&F will prepare a lost/damaged baggage report for you, that you’ll later on send it to your airline. Is there a free internet access?

Yes. Since 2015 TAV Macedonia has introduced free Wi-Fi internet at Skopje International Airport, which was upgraded in 2019. Passengers can access free internet through their mobile devices by simply connecting to a wireless network called TAV Airports, password is not required.

How much does the parking cost and can I reserve a parking lot?

You can park your vehicle in our parking lot without prior reservation. Are there parking lots designated for persons with disabilities?

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there are specially designated, marked parking lots for persons with disabilities and the car park services are free of charge within 24 hours. By enclosing the traffic license and the disability identification card at the Car Park Payment Counter, located inside the terminal building, our employees will cancel the car park ticket and the person with disability will be automatically exempt from paying for the car park service. If all designated parking lots for persons with disabilities are occupied, park your car on a regular parking lot, and following the above stated procedure you will be exempted from paying for the car park services. What is the procedure for traveling with pets?

Are there wheelchairs for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM)?   

Yes. At Skopje International Airport there is a Special Assistance Service for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs) . The counter where you can ask for this free of charge service is located inside the Terminal building, next to the Information Desk. Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) means any person whose mobility is reduced due to physical incapacity (sensor or locomotor), intellectual deficiency, age, illness, or other cause of disability.

Is there a smoking room?

Yes. There is a smoking room at Skopje International Airport, which is located in the security-restricted area, airside. The smoking room is located next to Gate number 201, i.e., on the left side after you pass passport control and security screening. In addition to the smoking room, passengers can use the open terraces of the cafeterias located at the entrance to the terminal building of the airport. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of the terminal building.

The check-in process was super smooth, we met the host's relative who gave us the keys and gave a quick house tour. The host and owner, Ljupka was super responsive from the time of booking to the time of checkout. She kept checking with us if we needed anything. She also came to give us washing machine detergent and also helped with the police registration that is required for tourists. The apartment was very central and just 9 mins walk from Central bus station. The neighbourhood was quiet and there was everything nearby. The apartment has everything from fast internet, TV, Washing machine, Hair Dryer, kitchen with all utensils, gas, Iron, Iron board and a very good aircon/heating system in the living room. The host and apartment were both superb and recommended to anyone visiting Skopje and wants to live in a central location. The host allowed us to have a late checkout as she was a very kind and generous person.

The room was fabulous! Spotless, big space, plenty of coathangers, well supplied with cleaning supplies, towels, linens, and coffee! Plenty of light which is important for any of us of a "certain age". The short videos to follow to the location, the keypad at the entrance, the keys, the apartment doors - excellent! The host was very quick to answer questions and checked in to make sure everything was good but was not intrusive - perfect. Great communication but respects the guests' privacy. I absolutely love this apartment and will book it next time I visit Skopje, probably in November!

Great apartment. Owner welcomed us already on parking. There are parking all over building. Apartment great, very nicely decorated, artisticly even. There was extremelly nice and interested christmas tree there, landlord told us that she makes this. Not far from city center, maybe 1,5 km from statue of Alexander the Great, so You could say it's widely center of city. There are view on milenial cross from one of the balconys. Great value for money! Thank You!

What types of pets are allowed on board.

Cats, dogs and small songbirds (parakeets, canaries) are the only types of pets permitted in the aircraft cabin. These animals can also be transported in the aircraft cargo hold.

What is the pet carriage fee?

Are there weight or size limits for my pet?

Pets traveling in the aircraft cabin cannot exceed a total of 8 kg, including their carrier. The carrier dimensions must be no more than 23 cm in height, 30 cm in width and 40 cm in length. For pets traveling in the aircraft cargo hold, carriers/cages cannot exceed 75 cm in height, 75 cm in width and 125 cm in length. The total weight of the carrier and the pet together cannot exceed 50 kg.

Travel With a Pet

Do you want to travel with your pet to another State or country? Before you go, you may need to complete certain paperwork or tasks, such as getting a health certificate for your pet. Meeting these requirements takes time, so contact your veterinarian for help as soon as you decide to travel (whether by plane, car, boat, train, or other means).

Not all animals qualify for pet travel.

What is considered a pet? A pet is a privately owned companion animal not intended for research or resale and includes only certain animal groups.

Find out if your pet qualifies to travel

Your animal doesn't qualify for pet travel and is subject to different import regulations and export regulations if you:

• Don't see your pet listed below.
• Are exporting semen or embryos from any animal.
• Have a pet that's considered livestock or poultry, like pigs or chickens.

Bringing your pet into Ireland

Use the information portal below to find out the requirements your pet must meet to enter Ireland.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has no objection to the carriage of pets (cats or dogs when accompanied by their owners) in the cabin of the plane or as excess baggage when travelling on airlines. However, the ultimate decision on where in the plane an animal travels is up to the airline concerned. All pets entering Ireland must be in full compliance with the EU Regulation 576/2013 as outlined on this website.

There is no ban/embargo on pets entering Ireland.

Your pet must arrive in Ireland with you, or within five days before or after you travel, if it is accompanied by a person authorised by you. Your pet must be accompanied by original paperwork.

Bringing your pet dog -travelling with guide and assistance dogs

Airlines operating within the EU are obliged to allow disabled passengers and those with reduced mobility to bring their recognised assistance dogs in the cabin of the plane. All service or assistance dogs travelling must be fully compliant with the rules for entering Ireland as set out in section 2, gov.ie - Pet Travel (www.gov.ie)

Pets from non EU countries (apart from the European countries or territories listed above) may only enter Ireland through:

• Cork Airport

• Dublin Airport

• Dublin Port

• Shannon Airport

• Ringaskiddy port, Cork

• Rosslare Ferry Port

It is a matter for airlines whether or not they will allow animals providing other types of assistance/services, such as emotional support, to accompany passengers in the cabin of the plane.

If you are travelling from a non-EU country, you MUST provide advance notice of your intention to bring your service dog into Ireland, at least 24 hours before your departure time.

Transiting Ireland with pet cat, dog or ferrets

If you are transiting Ireland from a non-EU country on the way to another EU country, it may be possible to arrange for the compliance check to be carried out in Ireland, provided the animal is travelling in the cabin of the plane with you and the compliance check can be facilitated at your point of entry.

If you wish to enquire about this, please contact the relevant port of entry by email (found in previous sections), providing the relevant details. A DAFM official will inform you if it is possible to accommodate the compliance check.

You should keep all paperwork with you for the duration of your time in the EU, in case you are asked to present it on entry into the EU country which is your final destination.

The checks can also be carried out in the EU country that is your destination, if they cannot be facilitated in Ireland.

You may transit Ireland with your pet only if:

• the animal complies with the EU rules for pet travel, and

• you have a compliance check arranged in Ireland or in the country of destination

Pets not compliant with EU rules on pet travel must NOT disembark the aircraft in Ireland.

Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret into Ireland by private transport (aircraft/yacht)

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine may facilitate the landing of pets into Ireland by private transport, where possible. Cats, dogs and ferrets must comply with the rules for pet travel as outlined in sections above.

Pets from non-EU countries must enter through a designated Travellers Point of Entry (TPOE) after providing advance notice and undergo a compliance check on arrival. TPOEs are:

• Shannon Airport

You must contact the TPOE of entry in advance ask if an arrival on private transport can be facilitated. The Department generally cannot facilitate the entry of private yachts with pets into TPOEs, where pets have been in non-EU countries.

Travelling or relocating out of Ireland with your pet

For dogs, cats and ferrets the rules are largely the same to enter other EU countries as to enter Ireland: microchip, pet passport, rabies vaccination and waiting period. There is no tapeworm treatment required to leave Ireland, but you will need to visit a vet abroad to get tapeworm treatment for a dog to return to Ireland, see section 2 on returning gov.ie - Pet Travel (www.gov.ie) .

Travel out of the EU:

If you are travelling on holiday or relocating with your pet out of the EU you will need to:

• contact the destination country for entry (certification) requirements – Ireland does not keep this information
• when the country of destination has provided you with details on the health certificate requirements, please follow their instructions. The most likely scenario is that you and your private vet will prepare the pet (vaccinations, blood tests etc.) and provide a health certificate, that you can then bring to your local Regional Veterinary Office to get a government stamp and signature
• make sure you plan well in advance and contact the Regional Veterinary Office at least 2 months in advance of travel to ensure that necessary documentation can be certified by department officials
• allow sufficient time to ensure any required tests can be successfully performed
• ensure your pet qualifies to return to Ireland, see section 2 Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret into Ireland – the same rules apply to re-enter from a non-EU country whether the pet is usually resident there or if it is an Irish pet who was just there briefly on holidays

The department may not be able to sign documentation for your pet to travel if you have not contacted your Regional Veterinary Office at least two months in advance of travel with your pet.

It is up to each individual airline as to if and how they allow pets to travel in their aircraft. Please note that from July 19th 2021, Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) are no longer allowing Pets to travel outbound as excess baggage. Please contact DAA directly for more information.

If you are taking your dog, cat or ferret out of Ireland to another EU country, or if you are returning to Ireland, you must get an EU pet passport. In Ireland this is issued by your local vet; please contact them directly.

Pets returning to Ireland from holiday must meet the requirements for entering Ireland from that country, as if it was a pet from that country. Please read sections above carefully and prepare your pet for return to Ireland BEFORE you leave .

If you are travelling to sell your pet dog, cat or ferret, for a change of ownership, or if the pet is not travelling with you or within five days of your travel, there are different rules. Please contact [email protected] , or your local RVO

Bringing an unaccompanied pet cat, dog or ferret into Ireland

If any of the following situations apply to you:

• you are buying a dog, cat or ferret abroad and having it shipped to Ireland unaccompanied, that is, you are not going to collect it and travel home with it, or

• your pet is in another country and you want to have it shipped to Ireland unaccompanied, that is, you are not going to collect it and travel home with it

• you are travelling to Ireland to buy, sell or gift a dog, cat or ferret, or if any change of ownership is involved after arrival, including delivery of a purchased or rehomed animal

• if you are travelling with more than 5 pets (the exception is if you are travelling for a dog show/competition, and you will need to provide written confirmation [email protected]

your pet may not enter Ireland under pet travel rules. These pets must follow a different set of rules.

Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titration Test. This form can be completed by your vet and then brought to your local RVO for signing.

Bringing your pet

Cats and dogs.

It is relatively easy to bring cats and dogs to Russia. There is no quarantine requirement, although veterinary certificates and immigration records are necessary. You should be sure to travel together with your pet, and either carry it on the plane, or ensure it travels as accompanied baggage or excess luggage (not cargo!).

If you can do this, then you receive your pet at the baggage claim when you arrive in Moscow, and simply have to register your cat or dog at the airport veterinary station before you may clear customs with your pet and remaining luggage. You will need to present the following:

• a pet registration fee of about 400 RUR
• a certificate of health issued by a certified veterinarian between three and ten days prior to your pet’s arrival (English is acceptable).
• your pet’s vaccination records, which must include all feline/canine infectious diseases, and a rabies vaccination no older than one year and no more recent than one month.

The veterinary station officer will stamp and date your pet’s certificate of health, which will then be your pet’s official import document. You must present the stamped certificate to take your pet through customs.

If your pet must travel as cargo, for unavoidable reasons, you will need to obtain an international health certificate for your pet. Your pet will be delivered to a cargo airport and will need to clear import customs, which involves extensive documents, fees, and time, not all of which can be resolved prior to your pet’s arrival in Moscow. You should enlist the professional services of a Moscow veterinary experienced with import of pets.

Birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and exotic animals

The import of any animal other than a cat or dog to Russia is very complicated and not recommended. Some pets are forbidden from import and export entirely. Russia is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which regulates much of the import of exotic animals.

If you do decide to bring a pet such as a bird or guinea pig to Moscow, note that there will likely be a 30-day quarantine requirement. This quarantine is best undergone and certified at the place of departure. You should consult with a veterinarian in your home country, and hire the services of a professional, Russian-speaking veterinarian in Moscow to help you handle the import.

Keep in mind:

• The European Union has additional requirements for any pets transferring through an EU airport. These include written proof of tick and de-worming treatment administered two days before departure.
• ISO Standard Microchips are not yet required in Russia, but are required in many other European countries. If you are able, it is a good idea to get this chip implanted before you leave your home country.
• There are special restrictions on pregnant or very young (less than three months) cats and dogs.
• Russia’s export requirements and your origin country’s import requirements will apply to your pet if you ever want to bring it back. Verify your origin country’s import requirements to make sure you can bring your pet home when your time in Russia ends!

Leaving Russia with your pet

If you need to take a pet with you out of Russia, similar requirements apply: you must provide a certificate of health from a licensed Russian veterinarian, and evidence that all vaccinations, including rabies, are up to date. Furthermore, if there is any question about the intrinsic breeding value of your dog or cat, you must obtain a certificate of pedigree from the appropriate Moscow breeder’s club. You may need to pay export duties based on this pedigree certificate.

Of course, you should also verify the import requirements of your destination country. Most will require an international health certificate, which you can obtain at the departing airport for a fee of about 200 RUR, provided you can present a health certificate from a licensed Russian veterinarian.

Biden said American weapons would not be used to strike Moscow and the Kremlin

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden said in an interview Thursday that U.S. weapons would not be used to strike Moscow and the Kremlin as he commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy.

During an interview with ABC News anchor David Muir, Biden was asked whether American weapons were being used inside Russia. Biden recently authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied weapons to return fire against Russian forces attacking them near the Kharkiv region.

"They're authorized to be used in proximity to the border when they're being used on the other side of the border to attack specific targets in Ukraine," Biden told Muir. "We're not authorizing strikes 200 miles into Russia and we're not authorizing strikes on Moscow, on the Kremlin."

Muir then asked Biden about a statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin made that "the supply of high-precision weapons to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory is direct participation in this war."

“I've known him for over 40 years. He's concerned me for 40 years. He's not a decent man," Biden said. "He's a dictator, and he's struggling to make sure he holds his country together while still keeping this assault going.”

“We're not talking about giving them weapons to strike Moscow, to strike the Kremlin, to strike against - just across the border, where they're receiving significant fire from conventional weapons used by the Russians to go into Ukraine to kill…Ukrainians,” he added.

The Russian leader’s chatter about nuclear weapons has picked up since the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use its conventional weapons against military targets in Russia.

President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia said on Friday that even the combined arsenals of Europe and the United States would be no match for Russia’s in a nuclear confrontation, but that “I hope this is never going to happen.”

He reasoned that Moscow’s supremacy in the Ukraine war has made that grim scenario unlikely.

“The use is possible in an exceptional case — in the event of a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” Mr. Putin told a large audience of the Russian elite and foreign dignitaries gathered for the main session of the four-day St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. “I don’t think that such a case has come.”

As Mr. Putin spoke, President Biden was in Europe to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, leading eventually to the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Russian assault on Ukraine meant the stakes were equally high today, Mr. Biden said, suggesting that the voices of the fallen “are summoning us” to defend Western values.

At the annual gathering in St. Petersburg, Mr. Putin invariably presents a long, glowing assessment of Russia’s domestic and foreign affairs, and this year was no exception. The country’s economy was growing despite a battery of Western sanctions, he said, and Russia was fostering an alternative to the American-dominated global financial order as Moscow’s armed forces were prevailing on the battlefield.

“Mr. Putin is a great master at selling optimism, and this is a whole strategy — in Russia today, optimism is the official religion and mandatory state ideology,” said Kirill Rogov, a former Russian government adviser who now leads Re: Russia, a Vienna-based policy research organization. Many of the positive economic indicators are driven by massive government spending on defense industries, he noted.

Given the large foreign presence at the forum, Mr. Putin often uses a more measured tone than when he is addressing a strictly domestic audience. The hawkish moderator, Sergei Karaganov, a prominent political scientist, repeatedly pressed Mr. Putin to agree that the nuclear option was the best way to win the war, that Russia should hold “a nuclear pistol to the temple” of the West.

In 1993, Russia abandoned the Soviet pledge of no first use of nuclear weapons, fearing its weakened military forces could not deter an American attack, however unlikely. While noting that Russia’s nuclear doctrine could change, Mr. Putin swept aside Mr. Karaganov’s remark.

“We don’t have that need,” he said of using nuclear weapons as a last resort to preserve national sovereignty. “Because our armed forces are not just gaining experience, they are increasing their effectiveness.”

Mr. Putin suggested that saber rattling was counterproductive, although Western countries have accused him of doing just that back in 2022, when the tide was running against Russia in the war and again, recently, after the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use American weapons against military targets in Russia. “I would like to ask everyone not to speak of the possibility of using nuclear weapons in vain,” he said.

When Mr. Karaganov asked the president whether a negotiated settlement was possible even with what the moderator called unreliable interlocutors like the West and Ukraine, Mr. Putin quoted Stalin, saying that sometimes there was no alternative. Mr. Putin also repeated the idea that the government of Ukraine was illegitimate because President Volodymyr Zelensky’s five-year term had expired and new elections were postponed amid the war.

Mr. Putin also suggested that any peace treaty would have to be negotiated along the lines of previous agreements in Minsk and Istanbul. Neither of those succeeded in preventing the conflict.

While Mr. Zelensky participated in the D-Day commemoration on Friday, Russia was not invited, despite its instrumental Allied role in World War II. Some Russian commentators took umbrage. Olga Skabeeva, a prominent Russian propagandist on state television, mocked Mr. Biden in a post on the Telegram messaging app, saying that “he went into a trance and contacted the souls of dead World War II veterans.”

Others, however, noted how changes at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum showed just how much Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine war had isolated the country. That has made the Kremlin desperate for any allies, even the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan once ostracized by Moscow as a terrorist organization. China and India, both major purchasers of Russian oil, did not send high-level delegations.

“Once dubbed ‘Russia’s Davos’ and attended by democratically elected presidents and the CEOs of major global corporations, this year’s guest list is looking distinctly more war-crimey,” the independent Novaya Gazeta newspaper, published outside Russia, wrote in a summary of the events.

One of the few frissons of excitement at the forum this year was the appearance for the first time of both Mr. Putin’s adult daughters on panel discussions, which have always featured a who’s who of the Russian elite.

The two women use different surnames, and the president has repeatedly declined to acknowledge publicly that Maria Vorontsova, 39, and Katerina Tikhonova, 37, were his daughters, even as both took prominent roles at public institutions.

Ms. Tikhonova, who first entered the public limelight years ago through international acrobatic rock 'n' roll dance competitions, spoke remotely to a panel on Thursday about the effort to substitute Russian products for imports, long a pet project for Mr. Putin. Her sister, Ms. Vorontsova, on Friday addressed the use of innovation in biotechnology. Neither was identified as Mr. Putin’s offspring.

French citizen arrested in moscow on charges of collecting military data.

MOSCOW – Russia's top state criminal investigation agency on Thursday announced the arrest of a French citizen accused of collecting information on military issues, a move that comes as relations between Russia and France have grown increasingly tense over the fighting in Ukraine.

The arrest was announced just as France hosted world leaders on the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday. Russia wasn’t invited.

Russia's Investigative Committee said the suspect, whom it didn't identify, is accused of failing to register with authorities as a foreign agent while collecting “information about military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation.” It added that the information could be used to the detriment of the country's security.

Russia's state news agency Tass identified the arrested French citizen as Laurent Vinatier, an employee of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), a Geneva-based nongovernment organization.

HD confirmed Vinatier's detention in a statement released to The Associated Press.

“We are aware that Laurent Vinatier, an adviser at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), has been detained in Russia,” it said. “We are working to get more details of the circumstances and to secure Laurent’s release.”

French President Emmanuel Macron told French television Thursday night that the French citizen was “in no way...working for France" and that he "works for a Swiss NGO founded by former UN chief Kofi Annan and which carries out diplomacy of working discussions.″

He is receiving consular protection, Macron said.

Vinatier's LinkedIn page, which describes him as a “conversationalist,” says he has worked for the center for over a decade and indicates that he has had a focus mostly on former Soviet republics, Turkey and the Middle East over the years.

Russia's Investigative Committee posted a video showing officers detaining the suspect at a cafe and driving him to the committee's Moscow offices for interrogation. The charges carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.

The arrest comes during a strain in Russian-French ties that followed French President Emmanuel Macron's statements about the possibility of deploying the country's troops in Ukraine .

Moscow has warned that French soldiers would be legitimate targets for Russia if they are sent to Ukraine.

The charges against the French citizen are based on a recently approved law that requires anyone who collects information on military issues to register with authorities as a foreign agent.

Human rights activists have criticized the law and other newly endorsed legislation as part of a multi-pronged Kremlin crackdown on independent media and political activists intended to muzzle criticism of its actions in Ukraine.

Arrests on charges of spying and collecting sensitive data have become increasingly frequent in Russia since it sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022.

Recent high-profile arrests include Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested on espionage charges in March 2023, and U.S.-Russian journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, who was taken into custody in October 2023 for failing to register as a “foreign agent.”
