PM in Bengaluru

In a step towards enhancing mobility and boosting connectivity in Bengaluru, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP), which will connect the capital city with its suburbs and satellite townships. The project, which is to be built at a cost of over Rs 15,700 crore, envisages four corridors with a total route length of over 148 km. The Prime Minister will also lay the stone of redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantt. and Yesvantpur Junction railway station to be developed at a cost of around Rs 500 crore and Rs 375 crore respectively.

Another highlight of the event would be dedicating India’s first air-conditioned railway station – Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Station at Baiyappanahalli. It has been developed on the lines of a modern airport at a cost of Rs 315 crore. The Prime Minister will also flag off electric trains from Udupi, Madagaon and Ratnagiri as part of launching the 100 per cent electrification of the Konkan railway line (about 740 km) from Roha ( Maharashtra ) to Thokur ( Karnataka ). The electrification has been done at a cost of more than 1,280 crore. Modi will launch two railway line doubling projects – Arsikere to Tumkuru (around 96 km) and Yelahanka to Penukonda (around 120 km) – by flagging off passenger trains and MEMU service respectively.

During the programme, Modi will also lay the foundation stone of two sections of the Bengaluru Ring Road project to mitigate traffic congestion in the city. He will also lay the stone of other road projects such as six-laning of Nelamangala-Tumkur section of NH-48; widening of Punjalkatte-Charmadi section of NH-73; rehabilitation and upgradation of a section of NH-69. The cumulative cost to be incurred is about Rs 3,150 crore. He will also lay the stone of Multi Modal Logistics Park, which is being developed at Muddalinganahalli, about 40 km from Bengaluru at a cost of about Rs 1,800 crore. It will help in lowering the transportation, handling and secondary freight costs.

Festive offer

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the new campus of Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University, Bengaluru. The residential university was set up in 2017 in recognition of the exemplary contributions made by Dr B R Ambedkar towards the development of Independent India and as a tribute to his memory on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary.

At BASE University, Modi will also inaugurate 150 ‘Technology Hubs’ that have been developed by transforming the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Karnataka. This unique initiative developed at a cost of over Rs 4,600 crore is supported by many industry partners. It aims to create a skilled workforce to address Industry 4.0 manpower needs. The Technology Hubs, through its various innovative courses, will provide high skill training in cutting-edge technology and improve opportunities for ITI graduates in employment and entrepreneurship.

At IISc Bengaluru, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Centre for Brain Research (CBR), the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister himself. The centre is developed as a one-of-its-kind research facility and focuses on conducting vital research to provide evidence-based public health interventions to manage age-related brain disorders. During the programme, PM Modi will also lay the stone for 832-bedded Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispecialty Hospital. The hospital, which will be a major fillip to clinical research in the country, will be developed on the IISc campus. It will help integrate science, engineering and medicine at the prestigious institute.

PM in Mysuru

At a public function at Maharaja’s College Ground, Mysuru Monday, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Coaching terminal for sub-urban traffic at Naganahalli Railway Station that will be developed at a cost of over Rs 480 crore. The terminal will also have a MEMU shed and will decongest the existing Mysuru Yard, facilitating running of more MEMU train services and long distance trains from Mysuru, improving both connectivity and tourism potential of the region. This will benefit the daily commuters as well as those travelling to long-distance destinations.

During the event, Modi will also launch ‘Centre of Excellence for persons with communication disorders’ at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH). It is equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and facilities for diagnosis, assessment and rehabilitation of persons with communication disorders.

On the occasion of 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) Tuesday, PM Modi will participate along with thousands of participants in a Mass Yoga Demonstration at Mysore Palace ground, Mysuru. Integrating the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with celebrations of 8th IDY, Mass Yoga demonstrations will also be organised at 75 iconic locations across the country under the leadership of 75 Union Ministers, along with the Yoga Demonstration by the Prime Minister at Mysuru. The Yoga demonstrations will also be held by various educational, social, political, cultural, religious, corporate and other civil society organisations and will be attended by crores across the country.

The PM’s Yoga programme at Mysuru is also part of the novel programme ‘Guardian Yoga Ring’ which is a collaborative exercise between 79 countries and United Nations organisations along with Indian Missions abroad to illustrate Yoga’s unifying power that surpasses national boundaries. As the sun apparently moves from the east to the west across the world, the Mass Yoga Demonstrations in the participating countries, if seen from any one point on Earth, will seem to be happening one after the other, almost in tandem, thus underlining the concept of ‘One Sun, One Earth’. This innovative programme will be telecast live on DD India starting from 3 am IST (telecast from Fiji) till 10 pm IST (telecast from San Francisco, USA) Tuesday. The PM’s programme in Mysuru will be telecast live on DD India from 6:30am

Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga (IDY) has been celebrated worldwide on June 21 every year. The theme for this year’s Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. The theme portrays how Yoga served humanity in alleviating the sufferings during Covid times.

Mamata abusing Hindu organisations to appease Muslim fundamentalists: PM Modi at West Bengal's Bishnupur

Amid the campaigning for the sixth phase of lok sabha elections, prime minister narendra modi on sunday reached bishnupur in west bengal. earlier he addressed a public rally in purulia. both the constituencies will go to polls on may 25..

Lok Sabha elections, Bishnupur rally

While addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Bishnupur, accused Banerjee of being "under pressure from Muslim fundamentalists" and attacking the saints and monks of the country.

“In their desperation, TMC leaders have started hurling abuses at prestigious organisations like ISKCON, Ramakrishna Mission, and Bharat Sevashram Sangha. These organisations have brought glory to Bengal, but the CM of the state claims they are ruining Bengal. Under pressure from Muslim fundamentalists, she has publicly insulted our faith,” Modi said.

Earlier in the Purulia rally also the PM made a similar mention saying, “Modi said the TMC has crossed the limits of decency by stooping so low that it is "spreading canards against ISKCON, Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha.” He went on and said, “Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha are known for service and morality, but the chief minister of Bengal is openly threatening them from an open platform...They are threatening them just to appease their vote bank".

Will make TMC's corrupt to sell their bungalows and cars, says PM

He also said that people in Bengal are forced to migrate for employment. This situation should change. He said that the thinking of TMC and Congress is not about development or employment. These parties only know how to spread nepotism and corruption.

The PM slammed TMC over issues of corruption. He said that the TMC has not spared even the children in their hunger to earn money. Mentioning the teacher recruitment scam, he said that TMC has put the future of the youth as well as the coming generations at stake. Poor parents have made their living by selling their houses and lands and taking loans. They bribed the ministers. Making a hard statement, the PM asserted “I guarantee you Modi will make them sell off their bungalows and cars.”

Targeting the I.N.D.I.A bloc, PM Modi said whether it is TMC, Left or Congress, they only appear to be three different parties, but the sins of all of them are the same, that is why they have formed the I.N.D.I.A bloc together. He further said that they have always given slogans to the poor, labourers, SC-ST, but wherever they ruled the governments, they left those states poor and West Bengal is an example of that.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi casts his vote as giant election reaches halfway mark

prime minister modi visit to bangalore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi voted early on Tuesday as India held the third phase of a massive general election , when seats in his home state of Gujarat and 10 other regions will be decided.

The world’s most populous nation began voting on April 19 in a seven-phase election in which nearly one billion people are eligible to vote, with ballots set to be counted on June 4.

Voter turnout, however, has been a concern as the first two phases registered marginally lower numbers compared with 2019 polls and initial figures from the Election Commission showed a fall on Tuesday as well at 61.45%, compared with around 66% in the same phase five years ago.

Modi is seeking a rare third consecutive term in a vote that pits his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against an alliance of more than two dozen opposition parties. Surveys suggest he will win a comfortable majority.

Modi cast his ballot in the Gandhinagar constituency where his number two, Home Minister Amit Shah, is the BJP candidate.

He urged citizens to actively participate in the “festival of democracy,” while taking care of their health as summer temperatures continued to rise in many parts of the country.

Clad in saffron and white, he was surrounded by hundreds of supporters and party members, signing autographs and talking to children on the way to the polling station.

Modi’s campaign began by showcasing his economic record, welfare measures, national pride and personal popularity.

The BJP relies heavily on his popularity, with his image adorning everything from sacks of rice handed out to the poor to large posters in cities and towns.

But some voters said it was not enough.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi voted early on Tuesday as India held the third phase of a massive general election, when seats in his home state Gujarat and 10 other regions will be decided.

“Yes, the government gives us free rice, but what’s the point? Look at the cost of potatoes and onions . It was never so high before,” said 50-year-old Rina Kathar from Baligate in the northeastern state of Assam, which also voted on Tuesday.

Assam is prone to frequent flooding and M. Ahmed, 30, said his basic concerns included bad roads and poor drainage systems in the state capital, Guwahati.

Modi changed his campaign strategy after the first phase of voting and focused more on firing up BJP’s Hindu base by attacking rivals as pro-Muslim, even as a survey said jobs and inflation were the main concerns of voters.

In an interview with broadcaster Times Now that aired on Monday, Modi said he does not oppose Islam or Muslims and wants the community to think about their future growth as they vote.

Modi’s critics accuse him and his party of targeting minority Muslims for electoral gains, and the allegations grew after Modi referred to Muslims in a recent speech as “infiltrators” who have “more children.”

Tuesday’s polling covered 93 seats in 11 states and territories, with Gujarat and Maharashtra in the west and Karnataka in the south accounting for 50 seats. That would complete voting for 283 of Parliament’s 543 elected seats.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won more than 70 of 93 seats up for grabs on Tuesday, but it faces tougher contests this time as the main opposition Congress party has gained strength in Karnataka and a regional partner has split in Maharashtra.

Voter turnout of 66.14% and 66.71% respectively in the first two phases has been marginally lower than corresponding phases in the 2019 election, with analysts blaming the summer heat and the lack of a single strong issue to motivate voters.

The Election Commission has since stepped up a campaign to encourage people to vote while consulting with weather officials and health and disaster management agencies to deal with the impact of the heat wave on Tuesday’s vote.

Among those who voted in Gujarat was Gautam Adani , the billionaire chairman of the Adani Group conglomerate.

“Today is the festival of democracy and I appeal to people to come out and vote,” he told reporters after voting. “India is moving forward and will continue to do so.”

Chandrayaan-3: PM Modi to visit Bengaluru on August 26 to congratulate ISRO team

The karnataka bjp is planning a grand welcome for the prime minister by organising a mega road show in the city on his arrival..

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bengaluru on August 26, to greet the ISRO scientists and officials for the successful landing of Candrayaan-3's lander and deployment of rover on moon's surface.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi waves the Indian flag while watching the telecast of Chandrayaan-3's successful soft landing on the Moon(PTI)

The Karnataka BJP is planning a grand welcome for the Prime Minister by organising a mega road show in the city on his arrival, senior BJP leader and former Minister R Ashoka said on Thursday.

"PM Narendra Modi is coming on August 26. We will be receiving him in big numbers with more than 6,000 people at HAL airport. There, he might address the people of Bengaluru. Our (BJP) national leader Santosh ji (General Sec B L Santosh) just spoke to me to organise a mega roadshow in Peenya, I have spoken to Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju on this," he said.

Speaking to reporters here, Ashoka said the Prime Minister has given the opportunity to the people of Bengaluru to share this joy with him. "We the people of Bengaluru will give Modi a grand welcome, because ISRO means Benagluru and Bengaluru means ISRO. He is coming here to congratulate ISRO scientists," he added.

Though the details of PM's visit have not been shared, he is likely to visit the Missions Operations Complex at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) here to congratulate the scientists and officials of the space agency.

PM Modi on Wednesday congratulated ISRO Chairman S Somanath on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and said he would soon visit them in Bengaluru to greet the entire team in person. He had a phone conversation with Somanath from Johannesburg, where he is attending the BRICS summit.

Before the phone conversation, he had virtually witnessed the landing and addressed ISRO scientists from Johannesburg.

Noting that the plan was to organise a roadshow of about 1 km near Peenya, Ashoka said at the airport too there will be a gathering of people to welcome the PM. A meeting has been convened at the party office to discuss and finalise things, he added.

India on Wednesday scripted history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface, making it only the fourth country to accomplish the feat, and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.

The LM comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan), made the soft landing near the south polar region of the Moon last evening. Earlier today, ISRO announced that the rover rolled down from the lander, stating "India took a walk on the moon."

prime minister modi visit to bangalore

India's Modi is on a landmark visit to the U.S. Here's what to expect

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet President Joe Biden on Thursday during his first state visit to the U.S.

High on the agenda will be deepening of defense ties, partnerships in technology and India's role in the Indo-Pacific.

  • Tesla chief Elon Musk met Modi in New York to discuss the EV company's ambitions in India, and he is also expected to meet the CEOs of Apple, Google, and Microsoft, among others.

Ties between India and the U.S. are at a turning point and the relationship between the two nations have improved in the last decade, said Harsh V. Pant, vice president of studies and foreign policy at Observer Research Foundation, a Delhi-based think tank.

"This is a very important visit, it is as much about India reaching out to the U.S., as it is about the U.S. reaching out to India," Pant said.

Biden has only hosted two state visits during his presidency, the first with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in December 2022, and the second with South Korea's president Yoon Suk Yeol in April.

"This visit symbolizes the unwavering commitment to deepening ties and signifies the immense potential for both countries to collaborate amidst global challenges," Farwa Aamer the director of South Asia initiatives at the Asia Society Policy Institute, said.

"For many in India and the U.S., the visit is a testament to the promise and high expectations for the future of U.S.-India collaboration — one of shared prosperity," Aamer said.

The U.S. is looking at India as a partner it can rely on, but its partnership will be very different since India is not an ally, Pant told CNBC.

"The U.S. is not used to having partners that are not allies, but is willing to look at its partnership with India differently — one that is relatively independent minded but will help American priorities as well," he said in a phone interview.

Strengthening defense ties

India and Russia have long shared a steadfast relationship, with India relying heavily on the Kremlin for oil and military weapons.

The South Asian nation is the world's largest buyer of Russian arms, accounting for approximately 20% of Russia's current order, Reuters reported .

"India has been too dependent on one country and that is not good, and although dependence has dropped from 80% in the 1990s to about 65% now, dependence is still huge," Pant pointed out.

However, because of the war in Ukraine, Russia has not been able to send critical defense weapons it had promised India, pushing the Indian military to look to others — such as the U.S. — for supplies.

Still, analysts are optimistic that the meeting between Biden and Modi could lead to more weapons agreements.

India has long been interested in buying SeaGuardian drones from the U.S., but the hoped-for deal that could be worth between $2 billion to $3 billion has been long hampered by "bureaucratic stumbling blocks," Reuters reported.

The deal could still be brought back to the table.

"India's Ministry of Defense has reportedly approved the purchase so it seems likely. The U.S. would like this to go through," Manjari Miller, senior fellow for India, Pakistan and South Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations told CNBC.

"It would be important for the partnership — only a few military allies and NATO countries have this drone, and the U.S. is particular about whom it sells U.S. weapons and technology to."

She highlighted that now is an important time for the deal to come through as it will draw "India closer into the U.S. defense orbit, and is a step away from India's dependence on Russian arms and equipment."

India is undermining its strategic options by thinking it can continue to rely on Russia, Lisa Curtis, senior fellow and director of the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security.

"It wants to try to keep a wedge between Russia and China because it doesn't want to contemplate the idea of Russia and China both arrayed against it. Then you throw Pakistan in there and things look really dire from the Indian perspective," Curtis told the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The drones will also enhance the Indian armed forces "intelligence-surveillance-reconnaissance capabilities" that will aid the country in securing their borders with China and Pakistan, Karthik Nachiappan, research fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore said.

Tensions between India and China over the disputed border in the Himalayan region has been ongoing since the 1950s with no end in sight. Twenty Indian soldiers were killed in June 2020 in hand-to-hand combat with Chinese troops, followed by another clash in December 2022.

But India wants to "go beyond a buyer-seller relationship," with the U.S., Pant said adding that India is working toward a "co-production and co-development relationship" with the U.S. so it can build its own domestic manufacturing defense base.

Private sectors in the U.S. could also start making more significant investments in India, with the two countries set to work together on producing fighter jet engines, said Pant.

"There's a change in the way the U.S. looks at India, and defense will be a beneficiary of that. India will definitely be looking to reduce its dependence on Russia, and that will be quite an extreme move," he added.

Without mentioning China, the White House said in May the visit will "strengthen our two countries' shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific and our shared resolve to elevate our strategic technology partnership, including in defense, clean energy, and space."

"Both the United States and India share the objective of not having an Asia that is dominated by China, or an Indo-Pacific region that is subject to Chinese coercion and assertiveness," said Ashley Tellis, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment in a Q&A report.

Energy: Reliance on Russian oil

Although India's purchase of Russian weapons could fall, the same can't be said for oil.

When Western nations imposed sanctions on Russian oil as a result of the unprovoked war in Ukraine, India doubled down on its purchases.

Russian oil currently accounts for almost 20% of India's annual crude imports, a significant increase from just 2% in 2021, Reuters reported.

Oil prices were extremely volatile at the start of the Ukraine war in February last year, spiking to $100 for the first time since 2014 . But India has continued to buy cheap Russian oil since and continues trading with the country despite global sanctions on the Kremlin.

"India has become very close to the West in the last five to 10 years, but it understands that it cannot simply detach from Russia," Amit Ranjan, research fellow at the NUS Institute of South Asian Studies said.

"Russia is an old friend of India, and India understands the importance of the relationship … Oil is an important piece of that relationship," Ranjan said.

Technology: Diversifying from China

Partnerships in technology will be also be top on the agenda for Modi.

"I think the technology issues have become so critically important, as we see China making advancements and hear about China's advancements with AI," according to Curtis.

"In seeing how much China is advancing, the U.S. now understands the importance of really cooperating closely with India and trying to take advantage of the strengths on both sides," she said.

"There are so many ways that the two sides can benefit from this increased technology cooperation—not to mention the progress that has been made on semiconductors. This has been a real area of focus for India and the United States, and I see that only growing as we move into the future," Curtis added.

There will also be a flurry of business meetings with tech leaders.

Tesla  chief Elon Musk met Modi in New York  to discuss the EV company's ambitions in India and the possibility of setting up a manufacturing facilities in the country.

Modi is also expected to meet other CEOs, including Apple 's Tim Cook,  Google 's Sundar Pichai, Microsoft's Satya Nadella and  FedEx 's Raj Subramaniam at the White House state dinner on Thursday, sources told CNBC.

The growing partnership between India and the U.S. also gives room for the two nations to adopt a "China plus one" strategy and push more technology companies to set up operations in India, analysts told CNBC.

The U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology was announced in May last year. The iCET initiative aims to "elevate and expand" the two countries' technology partnership and defense industrial cooperation, the White House said in January.

Pant said it points to the two countries' willingness to work together — both in terms of research and development, and what both governments can do together.

In the last six months, more U.S. technology companies have set their eyes on India.

Apple opened two physical retail stores in Delhi and Mumbai in April , and has plans to expand further in India. Taiwan-based Foxconn — one of Apple's largest suppliers — broke ground on a new $500 million factory in Telangana .

While Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud computing unit, announced in May that it would invest $13 billion in India by the end of this decade, Reuters reported.

"India and the U.S. are framing a relationship that can respond to 21st century challenges, and China will be watching very carefully," Pant said. "The two countries have already identified what their strengths are and are articulating a much ambitious agenda for that."

— CNBC's Seema Mody contributed to this report.
