Starting from the Kona International Airport at the island’s western-most tip, your pilot takes you past the Kona coffee district and the slopes of Mauna Loa to the southernmost town in the United States. You’ll be amazed when viewing one of only four green sand beaches in the world!

Next, your pilot will take you to view the world’s most active volcano, and continue towards Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō vent. After over 35 years of activity, discover what Kīlauea Volcano has left in the wake of its recent eruptive episode. Witness otherworldly landscapes like the incredible eight-mile river of frozen lava from Ahuʻailāʻau to the Pacific Ocean, the newest black sand beaches on earth, and enormous craters created by these historic events. Then, turn to the east, the island’s lush windward side and Hilo town. Notice how water now flows where lava once did, gushing out of sheer cliffs through lava tubes, creating hundreds of waterfalls and nourishing the rich vegetation. The grandeur of the Kohala valleys and waterfalls of the north are sure to catch your breath, as are the white sand beaches on your return to Kona.

• The doors-off flight is a more adventurous experience and you will not get the glare from the windows in your pictures. The door-to-ceiling openings allow you to look straight down to the ocean and mountains. Because the helicopter is open to the elements, you will be exposed to wind and cooler temperatures.

• Please check in 40 minutes prior to your flight time. Each passenger’s exact weight includes shoes, all clothing, and personal belongings including camera equipment and purses.
• What to wear: On a doors-on flight, please wear dark outer layers to minimize reflection in the windows when you take photos. For doors-off flights, please wear a windproof jacket or any warm outer layer that has zippers. Avoid wind-susceptible clothing such as dresses and hooded items. In the winter, please wear long pants. Eyeglasses are permissible on the flight, and earrings must be taken off, so you can wear headsets comfortably.
• Best time of the day to fly: Typically, the morning conditions are more favorable than in the afternoon for the best viewing experience.
• Best time to visit: Spring and summer offer the best climate for an aerial tour as Hawaii has plenty of sunshine at this time.
• This tour accommodates last-minute bookings, perfect for those looking to squeeze in an aerial sightseeing experience just before leaving Big Island.
• Take your medicine at least 1 hour before the flight if you’re prone to motion sickness.

• The activity provider reserves the right to cancel any tour due to unsafe weather conditions. If the flight has begun and must be canceled due to weather within 10 minutes of takeoff, you will be refunded in full. If the flight has exceeded 10 minutes, you will be refunded for the amount of time that did not take place.

• Children 12 years old and above can participate in this activity.
• No loose items are allowed on the flight, and cameras and all other gadgets must be secured with a wrist or neck strap.
• Guests with long hair will need to secure their hair in a ponytail, braid, or a bun.
• Guests must wear shoes that are secured, and no flip-flops are allowed.
• It can become quite chilly during the flight, so dress warmly.

What to Expect

Departing from Kona International Airport, we head straight up into the sky to get a birds eye view of one of the most stunning landscapes in the Hawaiian Islands. Northbound we have some of the planets most stunning beaches including the multi award winning Manini‘owali Beach (Kua Bay). South bound we get as far as Captain Cook, often overlooked for more resort-saturated spots along Hawaii Island’s Kona Coast. Captain Cook, a small town with a population of just 3,400 individuals, is full of Hawaiian history.

On January 17, 1779, Captain James Cook, of Great Britain, sailed into Kealakekua Bay. The native Hawaiian welcomed the Captain and his crew with open arms, believing them to be returning gods. A massive feast was held in their honor, however, a month later, upon realizing that the Captain and his crew were mere mortals, Cook was killed in a conflict. Approximately 99 years later, a 27-foot white obelisk was erected to honor the famous seafarer.

Cancellation Policy

Tours may be canceled or changed up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled flight time without incurring a fee. Tours cancelled after 24 hours prior to the flight, or passengers who fail to show up 30 minutes prior to flight time, will be billed the full price of the tour booked.

Passengers who cancel their flight with less than 24 hours notice, but re-book their tour for another day, will incur a service charge fee of $100. Passengers who miss their scheduled flight time due to a late check-in (Check in is 30 minutes prior to your scheduled flight time) will be charge a fee of $100 if they are able to reschedule.

If they are unable to reschedule their tour, the passenger will be charged a fee equal to the price of the tour booked.

She was knowledgeable of Kauai and all it has to offer. If you can, try to ask for Sam as your pilot! Highly recommend!!

Taking a private tour with family was perfect. It was great to see the island and the land features from the sky. Flying through lush allies was the highlight of the tour. Amy did a great job giving us the history of the island and Aulani was super helpful getting us checked in and making recommendations for where to swim.

Absolutely incredible!!! Easily one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. Highly recommend doors off it gets a little chilly but the experience is well worth it! Alain was an amazing guide with an awesome playlist as he told us about the island. At no part did I feel scared or that heart drop feeling of a rollercoaster. Such an amazing experience and highly recommend!! Thank you!!

The main office made us a little nervous and wondering if we booked a good tour. The girl checking us in was very unimpressed and seemed bored. Almost seemd displeased with us Upon arrival st the helicopter, Alain was fabulous! What an amazing flight!!! The views!! A little scarey with windows off but he was very reassuring. So beautiful and exhilarating! I can't say enough about how fabulous our pilot and Flight was!!!
