Krystle Wagner’s Trip

Hey there friends and family!! I’d love for you to partner with me in prayer and/or financially as I prepare for my 3rd year traveling down to Costa Rica with Red Rocks Church in February 2024. Last year we raised enough money to bless the local church in Sardinal with new concrete floors for their sanctuary. Prior to this, they had old tile floors and the elevation of the floors were lower than the street outside, so the sanctuary was prone to flooding in the rainy season. Thanks to your generosity, and the blood sweat and tears from our team and the local community, we were able to elevate the floors and lay concrete to eliminate the flooding and create more space for church attendees. We were also able to put on a week of sports camps for the local children, and bible studies and worship nights for the adults. None of this would have been possible without all your support and prayers. For those that have followed my journey the last two years, this trip and the people I’ve connected with have a special place in my heart. And I am so blessed to go down there again in February! None of this would have been possible without all your support, prayers and encouragement. It’s such a joy to partner alongside you all in making heaven more crowded!! Mission work has always been a passion of mine that God placed on my heart at a very young age and I’ve been blessed to continue that work today. Please do not feel obligated to donate. What I need most are your prayers and support. As always, thank you for partnering alongside me as me and my team prepare for the work we will be doing down in Sardinal.

Red Rocks Church

Red Rocks Church began in the unlikeliest of places—the back of a remote, run-down theme park named Heritage Square—in Golden, Colorado on January 9, 2005.

Red Rocks Church began by word-of-mouth and only the bravest souls made the long hike up the hill to the back of Heritage Square for church. As we met in our small, rented space, a spirit of unity formed which grew the church from 100 to 500 people, and then 500 to 2,000 people. Individuals were finding community, serving alongside one another, giving their lives to Christ, and sharing the love of God with their families and friends. We called Heritage Square home, embraced its many oddities (one example: a miniature train that you could ride, which ran around the perimeter of the park), and even made our first RRC rap video about it, but it became apparent that we would soon need another location. Red Rocks Church’s second campus launched on Easter weekend, 2012, and in pure Red Rocks style the Littleton Campus was previously a run-down dinner theater. The options were now plentiful; you could sit in the 100 degree/no-air-conditioning auditorium in Golden or you could sit in the former dinner-theater auditorium in Littleton, where a room full of old theater costumes sat next to the stage. Regardless of the unorthodox locations and their many quirks, the Word of God reached thousands of people and soon our locations were approaching 6,000 attendees and hundreds of people were giving their lives to Christ each year. Following the same multi-site model, Red Rocks began holding services at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility with the prison ministry God Behind Bars. Hundreds of women packed the prison’s gymnasium to watch the message and worship alongside our other Denver campuses. In late 2014, we were informed that our building’s lease in Heritage Square would not be renewed and that the theme park would be torn down altogether. The hunt for a new location began again, but a brand new building was out of the question; God had made it clear that this church was meant to build stories, not to build new buildings.

A Vietnamese grocery store, that was for sale in Lakewood, soon came to the attention of the Red Rocks Church leadership team. It contained aisles of food, rows of fish on ice, and even live frogs. The enormous space wasn’t pretty, but it was perfect in terms of size, parking, and location.

Red Rock Church’s “Building Stories” campaign raised the money needed to purchase the building, and a temporary Denver location, nicknamed “Catfish” (for its large size, and unfortunately because of the smell). The Catfish Campus served as additional space for us until the Lakewood Campus opened its doors in February 2015.

That year, God again showed us that He was leading the church and that He was in complete control. Abundant Life Church in Arvada approached us with a large building and a proposal: they would sell their church building to Red Rocks if we would help reach the people of Arvada with the gospel.

In September 2015, the Arvada Campus launched with overflowing crowds. The church building had once been office spaces, so it fit in nicely with the theme park, theater, and grocery store that housed our other campuses. Shortly after, a second God Behind Bars campus opened outside of Colorado Springs in the men’s Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility.

On Easter 2016 we hosted our last services at Heritage Square, and finished things off with one final rap video to bid adieu to our beloved “creepy theme park.” Shortly after the Heritage Square campus closure, plans began for a set-up/tear-down campus in Evergreen, Colorado. In June 2016, the Evergreen Campus of Red Rocks Church began meeting in the auditorium of Evergreen High School. Just four months later, Red Rocks Church also launched its first international location in Brussels, Belgium. The Brussels Campus met in St. John’s International School and an amazing team from Red Rocks worked tirelessly to connect with those in Brussels who desired to call Red Rocks home. Red Rocks Church’s Littleton, Lakewood, Arvada, Evergreen, Brussels, and GBB Campuses were now reaching thousands of people. Hundreds of individuals were getting connected in groups, giving their lives to Christ, and getting baptized each year. After two years serving in the mountain community, the Evergreen Campus closed its doors and God opened up a possibility for our set-up and tear-down equipment to be used in another state entirely. In August of 2018 Red Rocks Church branched out with an entirely new location in Austin, Texas. The Austin launch team moved from Denver to Texas and began planting a new location there. After months of development, the Red Rocks Austin location kicked off services in early 2019! Later that year a third God Behind Bars location began in the men’s Sterling Correctional Facility in Colorado. Right when it seemed like our love of quirky spaces might be at an end, a large building that had previously been a gym (complete with locker rooms, a giant climbing wall, and a bit of a smell) went up for sale in the Park Meadows area. After renovations were complete, the Park Meadows campus opened in November 2019 and hundreds of people called the location home immediately (many of them who had been part of other Red Rocks Campuses for years)! As 2020 began, the Red Rocks Austin location kicked off services in their newly renovated building and in March of 2020 each of our locations transitioned to online-only as the Coronavirus emerged. In this season of transition it was made clear that Red Rocks Church is not defined by its buildings or physical spaces, but by the presence of God in its people. Red Rocks Church met online beginning in March and over 40k households joined us as we celebrated Easter 2020 together! Throughout 2020, Red Rocks Church provided consistency and truth to individuals and families during a truly unprecedented time. Red Rocks Church’s journey from 2005 to now has been filled with celebrations, miraculous moments, and amazing spiritual growth. Regardless of what happens next, Red Rocks Church’s mission is to “make Heaven more crowded” and to prioritize authenticity, humility, unity, and generosity. As we pray about what’s next for the church, we keep these things at the forefront of our minds. If you have been part of the Red Rocks Church family for any amount of time during this season, we want to say thank you! Thank you to those who have prayed, served, sacrificed, and contributed for the sake of advancing the work of God in our cities. We are truly one heart, one mind, and united in the purpose God has for us and we can’t wait for what lies ahead!

Our goal is to work alongside you to achieve your mission trip goals while providing a sustainable impact wherever you serve. In an effort to better serve you, we have developed this payment protection policy for group Short Term Mission trips.

  • In the case that Adventures cancels a trip, a group’s funds are refundable up to the $75 per person deposit. This deposit is able to be applied toward a future trip with Adventures.
  • Adventures will make cancelations 60 days before a trip, except for the case of unpredictable or extenuating circumstances.
  • In the case that a group decides to cancel, their payments can be applied toward a future trip with Adventures but are not refundable.
  • Groups must notify Adventures of a decision to cancel 60 days before the trip. After this point we cannot guarantee any re-application of funds.

COVID-19 Trip Guidelines

Adventures encourages all participants to follow CDC guidelines and local regulations at all times. These guidelines will likely change between now and the time of your trip. We will discuss these changes with you as part of your preparation leading up to your trip. It’s important that your group familiarize themselves with these guidelines and make the appropriate preparation before the trip begins.

Having said that, we have also established these basic guidelines for all Adventures Short Term Mission trips.

  • Trip participants are required to fill out a health safety questionnaire before traveling to their destination.
  • Trip participants are required to fill out a health safety questionnaire each morning before breakfast.
  • Trip participants should maintain social distancing, including in ministry. When not socially distanced, wear a mask.
  • Each participant should bring at least three masks to wear throughout the week.
  • All participants will be required to have their temperature checked by the Project Leader each morning. The Project Leader will be equipped with a temporal thermometer.
  • No large group gatherings. We will coordinate with our ministry partners to try to ensure that there are no large group gatherings. In the case that there are, this is done at the discretion of the ministry partner and participants should not feel obligated to attend. It’s our objective to have plenty of smaller service opportunities, such as serving at food pantries, doing work projects at churches or ministries and ministering to people in smaller groups and in a safe, responsible manner.

100.4 degrees fahrenheit

They will be quarantined and taken to a facility to have a COVID test taken. They will remain quarantined for 10 days, per CDC guidelines.

They will be quarantined from the rest of the group and everyone will follow CDC recommendations.

Exposure means 15 minute of close interaction. In this case, the participant will enter the quarantine protocol.

The participant should notify their Project Leader or group leader and remove herself/himself from the situation.

Each location will be prepared with quarantine recommendations. Each situation is unique and will be handled specifically to address the needs of the individual, the group and others who are involved.

Each group is financially responsible for their own flights. We cannot reimburse any costs associated with travel. Please check with the airline about their flight cancellation policy.

Most of the time this decision is made for us by local authorities. In some international cases, airlines may decide to not fly into a country. We look at government recommendations, airline activity and discuss with our partner. This, paired with our ongoing attention to CDC and WHO recommendations and regulations, usually makes the decision to cancel very clear.

I've been here maybe 10 times in the past 3 years. Every time I visit through the years this church has been amazing. Complimentary donuts and coffee. Amazing music and the pastor is very good. TIP: arrive 15 minutes early for a good seat.

I'm from out of state and attended Red Rocks Church this past Sunday because I was in town for a conference. I was immediately greeted by a sweet older man who told me where the entrance to the auditorium was. Pastor Conrad was welcoming and encouraged all guests to meet and greet with him. Uncle Jimmy (Pastor Jimmy Rollins) gave an amazing sermon on giving through the church and ended with a video on Red Rocks Church's many campuses now serving families with children with special needs/disabilities. It featured a video on a girl named Hattie. I was incredibly moved by what this church is doing and being an example of the hands and feet of Jesus. The sermon was on a screen and was live from another campus but I didn't care about that, it was God's message that morning and I received it regardless of how it was delivered. The Worship team encourages you to worship the Lord, not their music. And they shared a new song they wrote. They work hard and serve hard. They are FIRE. From beginning to end, I worshipped (with arms up the whole time), I laughed, I cried, and laughed again, during the sermon. Lastly, when leaving the church, I saw the same elderly man (who greeted me before service) now walking side by side with a blind man, to ensure he got to his car in the parking lot. I encourage anyone to attend this church, you will feel the presence of the Lord. You won't just experience it, you'll see it with your own eyes, just as I did.

Photo of Harold A.

I was a volunteer for this church for 12 years then I opened my eyes and realized it was just a big show. There moto is "to make heaven ore crowded " but in fact it's to make the church more crowded. It's all about and only about the numbers. They desperately want to be considered a mega church. That's there number one priority. They took the crosses down and stated "they didn't want to offend anyone." WHAT

Photo of Free B.

At one time, red rocks Church had a good young preacher, who obviously didn't have any formal training but the people liked him and this uneducated congregation did not know the difference. Now Pastor Shawn Johnson has taken over as the Fuhrer and seems to have destroyed the entire system. I have never met him but only watched him from a distance. Did you know that he dissolved his pastoral relations committee of business people who held him accountable? I find it comical how bad his preaching really is and how ignorant Shawn really is. When does not have to think too hard in order to see what he is done there running off most of the founders. I seldom see this level of uneducated preaching. Someone told me that he has a bachelor's degree from University of Kansas but that hardly shows and clearly he has never been to seminary. He has gotten as far as he has because he is a master manipulator. The book that he wrote to cover his mentally illness and narcissistic personality disorderclearly shows to me as a poststructuralist that it was all about him making people think that he was OK when he really isn't. After a few sentences, you can see all this and also observe how threatened he is by anybody who has more Intelligence and gifts than he has. After talking around with people throughout the United States, this pretender has hundreds of broken relationships. I would stay away from this place as far as you can. Shawn is a very dangerous person. He will hurt anybody he can who gets in his way. He only pretends that he cares about others to look good but he really doesn't. You have to realize, as one with a narcissistic personality disorder and severe mental illness, this ConMan has gotten as far as he has and makes a gigantic salary by faking it but not until he makes it because he never will make it as a real pastor. Do not go there or even go near because he will hurt you if he can.

There was singing, dancing, holding hands, a built community and live gospel music performances. The word of God was meaningful, touched my friend who wanted to continue to expand his view on the Lord himself and Christianity. The halls are big, expanded, a win-win. The halls are filled with kind staff and the rooms are filled with lots of other members. The lights go dim, and there are screens and a small studio that records everything. There was clapping, togetherness. They have a resources page with how to get involved with the church. I thought that was amazing. Really beautiful inside and out!

The Littleton campus of Red Rocks Church. Red Rocks church has 3 locations (Golden in Heritage Square, Lakewood by Belmar, and Littleton off Bowles) and the Littleton campus is very unique. I believe it was an old dinner theater and I love that the church kept that feel and didn't transform it into a cookie cutter replica of a normal church "campus" feel. It has a very cool, friendly and welcoming vibe and seems to be made up of a lot of young families in their early to mid 30's. They have services at 5pm Saturday, and 9am and 11am on Sunday, and the younger 20's seem to come Saturday night. Here's what you should expect of you come to Red Rocks Church Littleton: 1. You'll be greeted by friendly people at the door that can answer any question you may have about the church. 2. They normally serve coffee and other drinks as well as donuts! 3. The service overall is a little over an hour so no more of those 2 hour+ services that any of us who grew up in old school church grew accustomed to. 4. A genuine message that's encouraging, easy to understand and clearly talks about hope and faith in Jesus. 5. A vibrant community with opportunities to connect with people, make friends and grow in your walk with Jesus. If you're ever in the neighborhood you should come check it out!!!

red rocks church mission trips

I wrote this on their Lakewood location's page as well, but hopefully more people will see this here: I started going to Red Rocks' Golden location in the fall of 2011. There were about 300 people (at the most), and Golden was their only location. I was also involved with their youth ministry, and even became a part of their youth leadership program. What drew me in to Red Rocks initially was their lack of judgement, their humor, and their amazing worship (music) team. The church was mostly young people and they were some of the kindest, most accepting people I'd met. I fell in love with their youth group because it was a place where young people could be open with each other about the problems that we face, and find support and love with likeminded people through God. They also had small "life" groups that met once a week at a different members house. We truly became a family, and because of the things I learned there, and the spiritual experiences I had, I have never and will never doubt my faith. But over time, I felt that the ministry changed for the worst. Their goal was to show Christ to as many people as possible, rather than helping people form a solid relationship with Christ. Their services seemed half-hearted at best, and they became more focused on opening more locations than providing a wholesome church. It was a quantity over quality type of situation. At each extra location, you could count on watching a live-stream on a big screen rather than a real life pastor. It was bizarre and extremely impersonal. Hopefully they've changed, but I visited last year and they seemed like a Jole Osteen mega church wanna be. Considering how much the Bible and Jesus himself spoke of humility and graciousness within your faith, this is certainly not the most Christian church you'll find. At least not anymore.

Hannah, we're sorry you feel this way after being a member of the Red Rocks Church Family for so long! We certainly understand your concerns and accept your feedback constructively. Our mission at Red Rocks Church is to make Heaven more crowded by being a front porch for prodigals. We don't want to be a country club for saints, but a hospital for sinners. A place where everyone is welcomed and shown the love of Christ. We hope you have found another church home here in Denver!

My wife and I go here every Sunday and we love it! They do a phenomenal job of welcoming you in and making you feel at home. Everyone is super friendly and accessible. The messages and the worship are amazing and super Christ-centered. Our kid is in their Kids Rock program and they do such a great job taking care of him. We are going to start volunteering this week, so we can become even more a part of the family! Highly recommend you check Red Rocks out when looking for a great local church to get plugged into

Visited for first time today. I was told to get there early because it fills fast...and it really did! I sat with a friend and a lady came in and scolded us (light heartedly) about being in their spot..she and her husband then sat next to us. Praise team was great but at the end they kind of went on for a bit too long. I loved the message and did not feel like anyone was pushy or unwelcoming. It's a big church, so if you want to instantly be sought out and welcomed because it's your first time- I don't think that's going to happen. You will have to speak up and say "this is my first time here" and not expect it to be obvious to the people there. I plan on returning as well as possibly joining a small group but this church is verging on being a mega church. I was told generally the praise team is live but the message itself is prerecorded and you watch it on a big screen. Today's message was live when I was there.
