AS CRUISE travel has recently restarted, you might be wondering: are cruises any fun right now?

Resorts World Cruises announced that it is the first cruise line to add a Kuala Lumpur homeport – via Port Klang – for the Genting Dream cruise, which began July 18 this year, in addition to the Singapore homeport which commenced on June 15.

With the dual homeport options, travellers can now choose to embark from Port Klang or Singapore.

Travellers have the option to choose a series of round-trip cruises from Port Klang, including two-night cruises to Singapore (departing on Thursdays and Saturdays), and three-night cruises to Penang and Singapore (departing on Mondays), with prices starting from RM599 onwards per person. Terms and conditions apply.

The dual homeport decision was designed to further cater for the demand of round-trip cruises, targeting the 10 million population residing in central peninsular Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca) who live within a short drive of Port Klang, the embarkation port.

With the international gateway that is KL International Airport also located nearby, international travellers will now have greater flexibility in choice of airlines and fares, ensuring they can match their trips to their port of choice with the right amount of transit time in between.

Resorts World Cruises also offered one-way cruises as an alternative to air and land travel for the millions of travellers between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. As such, travel agents now have a wider portfolio to offer for the most popular Malaysia and Singapore holiday packages with one-way and round-trip cruises from either embarkation point too.

“Resorts World Cruises is excited to take the lead for the cruise sector to boost the inbound and outbound tourists for Singapore; and to bring cruising to the ‘doorsteps’ of Malaysians residing in central peninsular Malaysia as they can depart from Port Klang, which is convenient and affordable,” said Resorts World Cruises president Michael Goh.

“As Genting Dream is certified as the world’s first OIC/SMIIC* standard halal-friendly cruise ship, this will appeal to a significant segment of Malaysians and international travellers across the region,” he added.

With the addition of the Port Klang homeport, more vacationers from Malaysia can now go on the Genting Dream for “A Resort Cruising at Sea”. And for those who like to be active on vacation, cruises like the Genting Dream also offer many fun activities on board and at your dream destination at an affordable price.

With Genting Dream, you can discover the convenience and exciting benefits of cruising, a hassle-free travel experience that will no longer require you to pack, unpack or even change hotels at each destination.

The ship will serve as your one-stop accommodation for the entire voyage, featuring interior staterooms, ocean view, balcony staterooms and the luxurious accommodation, The Palace – a “ship-within-a-ship” private enclave with exclusive amenities and facilities, including its own 24-hour European-style butler service.

Resorts World Cruises starts voyages to Phuket from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur/Port Klang with Genting Dream ship

Resorts World Cruises announced the start of its 3- and 5-night cruises to Phuket (Thailand) from Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang Malaysia) and Singapore onboard the Genting Dream ship , commencing from November 2022 onwards.

Passengers can enjoy a voyage to Phuket (Thailand) with the option to embark out of Singapore for the 5-night Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Phuket cruises departing on November 20, 2022, and March 12, 2023.

Alternatively, tourists may choose to depart from Port Klang on November 21, 2022, and March 13, 2023, for a 5-night Penang-Phuket-Singapore cruise.

Bookings open from November 15 for the 3-night Phuket cruises from Singapore and the 3-night Singapore-Phuket cruises from Port Klang. Sailing dates are available between May 2023-April 2024.

According to Mr. Michael Goh, President of Resorts World Cruises, the response to Genting Dream’s 2- and 3-night cruises had been very positive and was gaining strong momentum in demand.

"As such, the introduction of Phuket as a cruise destination is timely and will further fuel the growth of the domestic and FlyCruise markets in the region. Also, vacationers will now have more travel choices to Phuket, including the comfort and convenience of a cruise ship, which are inclusive of meals, recreational activities and entertainment.”

Mrs. Nongyao Jirundorn, Director Malaysia & Brunei, Tourism Authority of Thailand said that as the cruise tourism industry was making a comeback, they were "delighted to collaborate with Resorts World Cruises to welcome more inbound tourists to Phuket and across Thailand from the cruise sector."

"On behalf of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, we would like to congratulate Resorts World Cruises on their first call to Phuket. We are excited that more calls to the island are confirmed and expected in 2023 and 2024”.

Hotspot attractions of Phuket include visiting the smaller islands Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Ley, Bamboo Island, and more; visiting various cultural and religious sites like Wat Chalong, Big Buddha, Phuket Old Town; interacting with the elephants at the jungle sanctuaries; as well as shopping at the bustling street markets and malls.

The 2016-built MS Genting Dream ship is one of  the world's largest passenger liners by volume (151300-GT-tons) and debuted in November 2016.

In late April 2022, Asian online media reported that Genting Dream becomes the first liner in the fleet of Resorts World Cruises/RWC - a Singapore-registered company (incorporated on March 9, 2022) established by Lim Kok Thay (Genting Group/Genting Cruise Lines). It was also reported that RWC is in negotiations with banks and investors to acquire Dream Cruises' other two vessels (Explorer Dream, World Dream).

Port Kelang (Kuala Lumpur) Port Overview

• For those not going to Kuala Lumpur, walking through the Aeon Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre (also called the Aeon Jusco Shopping Centre) can easily kill several hours. This is located near the port. With four stories worth of shops and restaurants, there's pretty much nothing you can't find – especially if you forgot to pack something before your vacation.  
• The city's Little India District may seem like an odd place to go in Malaysia, but it's one of Klang's most popular attractions and oldest shopping districts. Full of shops and street vendors selling traditional Indian goods and food, you can also visit the nearby Hindu temples and shrines.  
• The Sultan Sulaiman Royal Mosque was actually built by the British in 1932. A lovely mix of art deco and Middle Eastern influences, it's also the burial place of several sultans (such as Sultan Salahuddin) and other royal family members. The colorful stained glass dome inside is quite breathtaking.  
• The Galeri Diraja Sultan Abdul Aziz (or Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery) built in 1909 is dedicated to the history of the Selangor Sultanate. The building itself has a colonial-era vibe. Inside, there's a selection of royal items, gifts, artefacts, and a crown jewel replica.

One of the best resorts we’ve stayed in so far. We took 3d2n package with breakfast, lunch & din provided. Food given large quantity, esp seafood & service was fine. Stayed in Garden Villa chalet. Very clean & comfortable. Housekeeping crew came to clean, very prompt & quick. Clean & nice beach, about 20 paces away from room, as well as clean pool, about 10 paces from room. Surrounding well kept. Resort is, of course, not new but it’s more than adequate to unwind & relax. Came during off-peak season & feels like you have whole resort to yourself! Thank you to staff for memorable holiday.

• Upon registration and confirmation of airline ticket request, Traveller must remit full payment for airline ticket according to the dateline as advised by the person-in-charge in AMI Travel.
• For ground and other payments, traveler must remit booking deposit (a 100 % non-refundable) of 30% from the package price (excluding airline ticket) within three (3) days after registration or according to the dateline advised by person- in- charge in AMI. Balance payment must be made thirty (45) days prior to departure date or according to the dateline as advised by the person-in-charge in AMI.
• No changes can be made within 48 days before departure

Cancellation

• Booking cancellation from the participant should be done through email or letter and must be sent to Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours for avoiding any misunderstanding

The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is covered with Hindu statues, and Jamek Mosque is in the Moorish style (you can tour parts of the inside enter if dressed conservatively). The National Museum is beautiful, too, and has replica Malay houses inside. The intricately decorated six tiers of Thean Hou Temple are a Kuala Lumpur landmark.

Holy Spelunking

The Batu Caves, in the Kuala Lumpur suburb of Selangor, have Hindu shrines within them. You'll need to climb 272 steps to see the largest Cathedral Cave; there are several smaller caves, too. The 140-foot-tall golden statue at the entrance is Murugan, a Hindu deity.

Local Cuisine

Kuala Lumpur is a street-food mecca. Pick up satay skewers of grilled meat in peanut sauce. Cruise to Kuala Lumpur and try Malaysia's national dish nasi lemak , coconut rice with pandan leaf, spicy sambal, cucumber slices and a choice of meat — fried chicken is a favorite option. Indulge in the flatbread dish roti canai : Enjoy it in savory form with chicken or mutton, or try the dessert version with bananas and ice cream.

Kuala Lumpur is known for its excellent shopping and for having prices better than Hong Kong and Singapore. Try the downtown neighborhood of Bukit Bintang, Suria KLCC below the Petronas Towers, or Chinatown's Central Market, also called Pasar Seni. During your Kuala Lumpur cruise, look for traditional fabrics like batik and Malay brocade.
