About status quo.

Status Quo are an English rock band who play a brand of boogie rock. The group originated in The Spectres, founded by schoolboys Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster in 1962. After a number of lineup changes, which included the introduction of Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK, more than any other rock band, including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968, "Whatever You Want" in 1979 and "In the Army Now" in 1986 and 2010. Twenty-two of these reached the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. In July 1985 the band opened Live Aid at Wembley Stadium with "Rockin' All Over the World". In 1991, Status Quo received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Status Quo starred in their first feature film, Bula Quo!, which was released to cinemas in July 2013. The film coincided with the release of the soundtrack album Bula Quo!, which peaked at number 10 in the UK Albums Chart. The first single from the album, "Bula Bula Quo" was released in June 2013, and is Status Quo's one hundredth single release.

Recent tour reviews

I saw Status Quo at the beginning of the month at the Bournemouth International Centre. Francis Rossi is the only one of their classic lineup but the Quo still rock throughout the night, performing a good variety of new songs and their classic hits. Francis provides good humour all round and interaction with the audience. More highlights included a rocking encore of ‘Burning Bridges’, and a medley of many of their old hits that they couldn’t fit in full rolled into one.

Would see again

Fantastic night and everything you expect from the mighty Quo. What was a surprise was the amazing support act Cats in Space. They were probably the best support group I've ever seen. Downloaded their albums and I would pay just to see them in future.

Back to the Quo; as brilliant as always. Really enjoyed last year's acoustic show and sadly miss Rick. The band did a great job of carrying on and long may they continue.

To night out. Thank you Songkick.

Thank god that Christian Death will never die. Their debut album is still held up as the Holy Grail of death rock, though their doomy riffs and sinisterly slow synths have made them the rotten apple of every goth’s made-up eye. Michael Block, who achieved cult hero status at the 2023 PGA Championship, eyes a repeat at Valhalla

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Four blissful, borderline mystical days at Oak Hill last spring opened up the world for Michael Block.

It also forced the PGA club pro-turned-cult hero to close his office door at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, the Southern California course where he’s long served as the head professional.

It’s a tradeoff Block has learned to live with over the last 12 dizzying months.

The 47-year-old understands the shelf life for the instant celebrity status he gained by tying for 15th at the 2023 PGA Championship — a weekend that included a slam-dunk hole-in-one and an epic up-and-down for par on the 18th hole in front of Rory McIlroy and the rest of the golf world during the final round — doesn’t last particularly long.

That’s why golf’s “everyman” has made it a point to be seemingly everywhere over the last year. In Qatar hanging with Formula 1 star Max Verstappen. Teeing it up in Canada and Australia. Hamming it up in commercials . Hopping on podcasts. Celebrating with entertainer DJ Khaled . Sharing a tee box with Tiger Woods and Max Homa .

It’s been a bit much. Just not too much. Not yet anyway.

“I wouldn’t trade any part of it for the world,” Block said. “I’ve loved every moment of it. The people I’ve met, the places I’ve been able to go, the tournaments I’ve been able to play in.”

A year ago, Block arrived in upstate New York as one of 20 club pros who qualified their way into playing against the best in the world. By Friday afternoon, he found himself in contention as the gallery chanted “ One of us !” By Sunday evening, he was putting the finishing touches on the kind of storybook ending that rarely spawns a sequel.

He arrived at Valhalla for this year’s PGA Championship hoping to write one anyway.

Block qualified for the same event on the same course a decade ago, missed the cut by eight shots and headed back home to his wife, Val and their two sons, happy with the life he’d chosen. There are far worse ways to provide for your family than teaching the game you love and carving out a reputation as one of the better players in the Southern California PGA.

Things were like that for a long time. Then came last May and 72 holes that etched him into PGA Championship lore.

Looking back, he’s still a little surprised that it even happened at all, particularly after the rain arrived on Saturday, making Oak Hill even brawnier than usual for a player who never has counted length among his strengths.

“I couldn’t believe that the 47-year-old club pro’s swing and putting stroke somehow held up during that time,” he said.

It did, but the immediate aftermath took its toll. Block received an exemption into the Charles Schwab Challenge the following week but finished dead last in the field. He was a little better at the Canadian Open but still didn’t reach the weekend. He did make the cut at the Australian Open in December, tying for 27th and earning a little more than $11,000, a paycheck that essentially covered the cost of the trip.

Yet playing has taken a back seat to all the trappings that came with his unlikely run. He is perpetually busy, with offers still streaming in from all over. That has led to some difficult short-term decisions.

“My door has to stay shut in my office, which is a bummer,” he said. “Usually it’s open and I can say ‘hi’ to the assistants and everyone that’s walking through, but it’s been such an onslaught of people and things like that, I can’t keep my door open.”

That steady stream, however, will eventually slow to a trickle. Block knows this. He doesn’t apologize for the choices he’s made over the last year, because why would he?

“It’s like if somebody walked up to your house and they — obviously those people winning $10 million when someone walks up to their house and knocks and the door and they open it,” he said. “That’s exactly how it felt for me minus the $10 million, but just the whole, what just happened right now.”

Block opened the door and let the world in while serving as an avatar for the weekend duffer, or at least as close to a weekend duffer as a two-time PGA Professional of the Year can get.

A repeat performance at brawny Valhalla is a daunting task. He’s trying not to think about it too much. It’s a mindset that worked wonders at Oak Hill, back when he was just a longtime club pro and not the guy now known universally in some golf circles as “Blockie,” a guy with a profile now so big that his bearded face adorns one of the massive banners reserved for notable players that have sprouted up across the property.

“You play as good as you can and try not to get frustrated when you hit a bad shot because there is going to be a bad shot, and just have a good time,” he said. “That’s how I play at my best.”

50 Cent on what fans can expect on his 20th anniversary tour (not upside down crunches)

status quo on tour 2023

NEW YORK – "It was the best body of work at that time."

50 Cent is giving " Get Rich or Die Tryin' " a tour encore.

The Grammy-winning artist , 47, announced a 20th-anniversary tour, The Final Lap, to celebrate his debut studio album Friday. Busta Rhymes is joining him for all 90 days and Jeremih is coming along for the North American stops.

50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) helped define an era of hip-hop with his 2003 album that included hits "In Da Club," "21 Questions," and "Many Men (Wish Death)." Several of the songs referenced the moment he was shot nine times in 2000 as well as various happenings from street life in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York.

The album also popularized hip-hop artists rapping and singing, laying the foundation for Drake , 6LACK , Monaleo, Doechii, Ty Dolla $ign and more.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Two decades later, 50 Cent jokes the anniversary of "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" means "I'm getting old."

What can you expect for 50 Cent's The Final Lap tour with Busta Rhymes and Jeremih?

If you saw the rapper perform the album in the past, don't expect the same from this tour. "It’s going to be a whole new show," he promises.

"Sometimes out of habit, you go to certain records," 50 Cent says. "People love other things on it, so I want to make sure I touch those records before I don’t do those anymore."

One thing you shouldn't expect from the tour is upside-down crunches, a move he did in the music video for "In Da Club" and recreated during a guest appearance at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show headlined by Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar .

"I think that was a mistake for the Super Bowl," he says. "Everybody else walked in regular, the songs still went over and they got the trophy, too. They all won an Emmy. They got the same thing I got and I had to put myself upside down."

50 Cent jokingly adds that someone should have intervened, because if he fell, he would've been made fun of for years to come. It was high risk over reward.

In contrast, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" has proved to be all reward. After all, he did get rich.

Here's more from USA TODAY's interview with 50 Cent:

Question:   Did you know the revolutionary impact you'd have rapping and singing on "Get Rich or Die Tryin'"?

Answer: It's not really a revolution. If you're going to make music that is going to be world music, it has to have melodies. English is not their first speaking language in a lot of places that I travel. What (those crowds) follow is the melody until they understand what you're saying.

Drake is the new, stronger version like that because he can do a whole pop record, sing the whole song. I've never done that. He'll say that I'm one of those influences. ... That’s a big compliment because he's established himself and done great work.

Would you ever collaborate with Drake?

That would be a good one.

How did you learn to perfect your craft?

Luckily enough I was able to run into Jam Master Jay from Run DMC and he took an interest in (my music). He helped develop me as an artist in the very beginning (and) taught me my song structure.

He would make me write the chorus to the song twice or three times before we decided which one and then write the rest of the record. "P.I.M.P." has two (choruses) on the record and that instinctively comes from because of how I learned how to write music.

Who is your dream male collaborator?

Elon Musk .

I mean in music.

I'd do something with Eminem again. We'll do something again at some point.

Who is your dream female collaborator?

Nicki Minaj . She's on fire. She's still right there.

Would you ever retire from making music?

I've retired several times. Because specifically, hip-hop is not something that you "work." In the culture, you work in it and you start to look at everything that happens like new artists to keep in touch with what's going on in music.

You can't see limitations with hip-hop, because look at what artists from hip-hop have done. You look at Will Smith in film, Mark Wahlberg in film, you look at Queen Latifah , L.L. Cool J . They've done phenomenal work and it was harder to do it in the time because they wouldn't let people in, specifically African Americans.

Bruins NHL Draft notes: A Milan Lucic reunion, Garnet Hathaway, Matt Grzelcyk and picks

EDMONTON, AB - OCTOBER 18: Milan Lucic #27 of the Edmonton Oilers faces off against David Krejci #46 of the Boston Bruins at Rogers Place on October 18, 2018 in Edmonton, Canada. (Photo by Codie McLachlan/Getty Images)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Milan Lucic will return to the Bruins in 2023-24, according to colleague Rick Dhaliwal. The left wing would first be eligible to sign on Saturday when free agency opens.

As reported 1st here, Lucic to the Bruins will happen. — Rick Dhaliwal (@DhaliwalSports) June 28, 2023

Lucic previously expressed his openness to returning to Boston. He never wanted to leave.

The power forward had a year remaining on his contract when then-rookie general manager Don Sweeney traded him to the Kings for a 2015 first-round pick, Martin Jones and Colin Miller on June 26, 2015. The Bruins, who were changing on the fly, identified the first-liner as a critical asset in their push to make their system younger.

Lucic scored 20 goals and 35 assists in 81 games for Los Angeles. The 2015-16 season set him up to sign a seven-year, $42 million contract in Edmonton with Peter Chiarelli, his former Boston GM.

Lucic, 35, is not the same player who scored 139 goals and totaled 772 penalty minutes in 566 games with the Bruins. He is now a fourth-liner, albeit one who arrives with the same degree of thunder when he’s on the forecheck. Lucic scored seven goals and 12 assists in 77 games with the Flames in 2022-23 while averaging 11:18 of ice time per appearance.

Lucic would pick up some of the shifts left behind by Nick Foligno , now a Blackhawk after accompanying Taylor Hall to Chicago. Foligno signed a one-year, $4 million contract to help the Blackhawks reach the $61.7 million cap floor. Chicago could flip Foligno to a contender for futures before the 2023-24 deadline and retain salary if necessary.

Lucic, meanwhile, would be reunited with Brad Marchand , his fellow 2006 pick. Whether he’d share the dressing room with former teammates Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci — Lucic is especially close with the latter — is unknown. It could be that the outgoing Lucic tries to convince his good friends to defer their rocking chairs for one more year.

Lucic-Hathaway fourth line?

If Lucic signs and starts on the fourth line, being flanked by Garnet Hathaway on the right side would make life miserable on the opposition. The veterans are both eager to dump opponents who are foolish enough to get in their way.

Extending the relationship would benefit both sides. The Bruins were pleased with Hathaway’s arrival via Washington. The native of Kennebunkport, Maine, who lived in Boston earlier in his NHL career, enjoyed his 25-game stretch with his hometown team.

Whether the Bruins can make it work financially remains to be seen. Hathaway, 31, should be in position to command a multi-year deal.

The two veterans would be good mentors if John Beecher, 22, muscles his way onto the roster. The center could replace Tomas Nosek . Beecher has yet to make an NHL appearance.

“Similar player,” said general manager Don Sweeney, comparing Beecher’s prospective NHL profile to Nosek’s. “Just doesn’t have the experience. Which, a lot of times, gets the benefit of the doubt.”

Grzelcyk as a pick asset?

Prior to Wednesday, Sweeney termed acquiring a first-round pick as a difficult task. As expected, the GM could not turn the trick.

It may be that Thursday brings him better luck.

Matt Grzelcyk , on the books for one more season at $3,687,500, could give the Bruins the best chance to restock second-day draft capital. The Bruins would have the opportunity to accomplish two tasks: clear more cap space and add a much-needed pick.

The Bruins, after all, do not have a 2023 second-rounder because of the Hampus Lindholm trade. They moved their fifth-round pick to Minnesota as the price for the Wild to retain part of Dmitry Orlov ’s contract.

In 2024, the Bruins will not pick until the fourth round. They traded their first-, second- and third-rounders for, respectively, Tyler Bertuzzi, Lindholm and Orlov and Hathaway.

“We’ve spent too much draft capital,” Sweeney said. “That’s on me to either claw back or make better decisions in that regard. So as a general manager, you have to execute at the highest level. You just do. Otherwise, your organization suffers. That’s always on me.”

After moving Hall, Sweeney said he no longer had to make trades with only cap clearance in mind. Trading Grzelcyk for a much-needed pick would not qualify as a salary dump.

Goaltending status quo

Prior to the Hall move, Linus Ullmark acknowledged thinking about being moved for cap purposes. The Vezina Trophy winner , who carries a $5 million average annual value, may not need to worry anymore.

Assuming the Bruins re-sign Jeremy Swayman to an acceptable number, their best path toward winning would be bringing the Hug Brothers back for another spin.

“That’s where indications are right now,” Sweeney said prior to Round 1. “Unless something else materializes between now and then. I have to do my job as to what might present. The goalie market’s an interesting one right now.”

Swayman has arbitration rights. Sweeney said neither side would prefer to use that mechanism to arrive at a solution.
