Randy Meisner: A Retrospective

Randy Meisner: A Retrospective

The Eagles on ABC’s IN CONCERT, 1973

The Eagles appeared on ABC’s In Concert series on August 3rd, 1973. The 90-minute show also included Ike & Tina Turner and Jim Croce, among others. It was taped on June 20th, 1973 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

At the soundcheck, Randy wore an unusual knit shirt covered with faces. His ex-wife, Jennifer, recalled that he purchased the shirt at L.B. Murphy’s, a department store in his hometown of Scottsbluff, NE.

The Eagles performed “Tequila Sunrise,” Early Bird,” and “Witchy Woman.” Randy wore another shirt with a Scottsbluff connection for the taping: a yellow Frank Implement Company shirt. The Eagles Live at the Sphere tickets: Price, dates for band’s 2024 residency in Las Vegas

Y ou might want to replace that Hotel California with Hotel Las Vegas. The Eagles are hading to Nevada for performances in the city's iconic arena, the Sphere, as part of their residency.

The beloved band needs little introduction. Formed in 1971, they're one of the most successful bands from the decade and continue to be even 50 years later.

The Eagles haven't released an album since 2007, but there's little need to with a discography like theirs which includes hits like "Hotel California," "Best of My Love" and "New Kid in Town."

The band has changed a lot since forming, consisting of nine different members throughout the years. Even then, the future of The Eagles is unknown. We do know they won't tour again, doing their last roadshow in 2023 with "The Long Goodbye" tour. Regardless of what next year holds, they've got a few shows left under their wings with their Las Vegas residency.

Here's everything to know to get tickets to the band's shows at the Las Vegas Sphere this fall.

The Eagles Announce Fall Residency Set at Las Vegas' Sphere

The four-weekend residency at the famed venue promises fans the “ultimate connection” to the rock band’s legendary catalog

the eagles 1973 tour dates

Kevin Mazur

The Eagles are landing in Las Vegas' Sphere this fall for their upcoming residency.

On Thursday, June 13, the legendary rock band — comprised of members Don Henley , Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (son of late founding member Glenn Frey ) — announced dates for eight shows across four weekends, kicking things off on Sept. 20.

Per a press release, the Vegas residency, which promises fans “the ultimate connection” to the group’s iconic catalog — including their acclaimed 1976 Hotel California album — with an “immersive” live experience, concludes on Oct. 19.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on June 18 at 10 a.m. PT, while general sale tickets go live on June 21 at 10 a.m. PT at eagles.com .

News of the Eagles’ Vegas residency comes almost a year after the band announced their last-ever tour , The Long Goodbye. “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band shared in an emotional statement following 50+ years of touring, countless chart-topping singles and 150 million albums sold worldwide.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” they added, also thanking their management team, road crew and backup musicians.

Their tour began with 13 initial dates before the rock band — formed in the fall of 1971 — extended it with two more 2024 Los Angeles shows to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their epic six-show residency at the Kia Forum.

The tour announcement came just a few short weeks before founding Eagles member and bassist Randy Meisner died from complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He was 77 years old.

"Randy was an integral part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early success of the band," the group said in a brief statement following the musician’s death. "His vocal range was astonishing, as is evident on his signature ballad, ‘Take It to the Limit.'”

During the Eagles’ prime, the band released seven studio albums, plus a best-of compilation titled To the Limit: The Essential Collection , which was released in January 2024. Looking back on the group’s legacy and discography — which fans will soon hear from Vegas’ Sphere — earlier this year, Henley told Louder , “The songs have taken on a life of their own.”

“We’re only curating them,” he continued. “We’re just the vehicle for presenting these songs to the people. We’ve come to realize what these songs mean to people, and how they’re part of their lives. You could call it nostalgia, and there’s nothing terrible about that, especially in times like these, when things are so unhinged and crazy. I think it gives people two and a half hours of relief from the crazy, chaotic world outside. Especially in America.”

Eagles singer Don Henley gives his all onstage.

It’s time to check out of the Hotel California and into a resort on the Strip.

From Sept. 20 through Oct. 19, The Eagles will play eight concerts at Las Vegas’ premier concert destination, Sphere .

At all ‘Eagles — Live In Concert at Sphere’ shows, fans can expect an “ultimate connection to the band’s legendary catalog in an immersive experience that only Sphere can provide,” according to a press release.

Prior to this high-profile residency announcement, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and co. have been touring all over the globe as part of their farewell ‘The Long Goodbye Tour.’

As of now, there’s no word on whether or not these Sin City gigs will be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group’s last; when they initially announced the farewell trek, they teased that the tour would stretch into 2025.

In any event, if you want to see the legendary group deliver their timeless hits — “Life In The Fast Lane,” “New Kid In Town,” “Take It Easy,” “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Desperado” are just a few of the classics that often make the set list — tickets are available for all eight Sphere concerts as of today.

Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming shows on sites like Vivid Seats ; the official on-sale is Friday, June 21.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

The Eagles concert review

According to  Variety , The Eagles’ live show “easily competes with the likes of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé for tour of the year.”

For more about Deacon Frey, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Vince Gill, and what covers the band worked into their MSG concert, you can read their thorough review  here .

The Eagles band members

When you’ve been living life in the fast lane since 1971 (!), a bit of shuffling when it comes to your group’s lineup is to be expected.

Still, to this day, 76-year-old, founding member Don Henley (drums, vocals, also known for the ’80s smash “Boys of Summer), continues to tour with the group.

On the road, he’ll be joined by 76-year-old Joe Walsh (also of the James Gang), 76-year-old Timothy B. Schmit (bassist and vocalist, played with Poco), 22-time Grammy winner 67-year-old Vince Gill and the late Glenn Frey’s 31-year-old son Deacon.

Over the course of their illustrious career, the band has racked up six Grammy awards, performed over 1,000 concerts, and sold 150 million-plus albums.

The Eagles set list

On their farewell tour, The Eagles stuck to a pretty strict set list.

While we can’t confirm what they’ll take to the Sphere stage, here’s what they played last year, based on our findings at  Set List FM .

01.) “Seven Bridges Road” (Steve Young cover) 02.) “Take It Easy”

03.) “One of These Nights” 04.) “New Kid in Town” 05.) “Take It to the Limit” 06.) “Best of My Love” 07.) “Witchy Woman” 08.) “Peaceful Easy Feeling” (Jack Tempchin cover) 09.) “Tequila Sunrise” 10.) “In the City” (Joe Walsh song) 11.) “I Can’t Tell You Why” 12.) “Lyin’ Eyes” 13.) “Life’s Been Good” (Joe Walsh song) 14.) “Already Gone” (Jack Tempchin cover) 15.) “The Boys of Summer” (Don Henley song) 16.) “Funk #49” (James Gang cover) 17.) “Life in the Fast Lane”

The Eagles are touching down in Las Vegas.

The long-running rock band announced Thursday that it will play eight shows at Sphere, the $2-billion venue with the wraparound video screen just off the Vegas Strip, over four weekends this fall starting Sept. 20. Tickets for the concerts, the last of which is scheduled for Oct. 19, are set to go on sale June 21 (though presale access will be available to various groups as early as June 18).

The Sphere residency ostensibly comes as part of the Eagles’ so-called Long Goodbye, a farewell tour that launched in September — seven years after the death of co-founder Glenn Frey — and stopped at Inglewood’s Kia Forum for four nights in January.

A victory lap 50 years in the making: The Eagles say goodbye (maybe) at the Forum

The Eagles, with some help from special guest J.D. Souther, began their Long Goodbye to L.A. audiences with a sold-out show at the band’s ‘home field.’

Jan. 6, 2024

“Welcome to whatever this is,” singer Don Henley said with a smile to greet the crowd at the first of those Forum gigs. The band has said it will keep adding dates according to audience demand.

The Eagles will become the fourth musical act to play Sphere following U2 , which opened the building last year, Phish and Dead & Company, which is in the middle of a 30-show residency set to run through mid-August.

Last week the venue made news when a Phish fan said he’d received a letter from Sphere prohibiting him from entering the venue after he posted a video of himself taking a bong hit during a concert. Sphere later said it had rescinded the ban.
