Třetí série?? Maximální spokojenost! Teprve až teď Grand Tour dovedli k dokonalosti. Všech 14 dílů bylo výborných, na rozdíl od první a druhé série, kde vždy byly aspoň dvě průměrné epizody. Krásně pomohlo kompletní vypuštění části s celebritami. A speciály ve třetí sérii jsou za celou dobu Grand Tour sto pro nejlepší. Za mě nejlepší epizoda 13. A konec?? Po sedmnácti skvělých letech přišlo rozloučení se stanem, klasickými testy, zprávami a jediné co zůstalo jsou speciály, které jsou sice asi to nejlepší z celého pořadu, ale po klasických dílech se mi bude stýskat. Tak snad nám Orangutan, Šnek, Křeček a Amazon těch speciálů ve čtvrté sérii dopřejí aspoň 5... No stejně jsem zvědav co bude po čtvrté sérii. 100% ( 19.02.2020 )

Třetí série Grand Tour je takový pomyslný pomník, který uzavírá těch neskutečně zábavných 17 let jimiž nás orangutan Jeremy, prcek Hammond a kapitán Šnek provázeli, a do nějž vložili obrovský kus lásky.... hoši, děkujeme! ( 01.05.2019 )

• Krátce po přejetí mostů, ve scéně, kdy Jamesovi přestane startovat auto, je v záběru z Jeremyho auta na moment vidět bílá dodávka s kameramanem. ( Brain )
• Při kempování na konci dne, kdy potkali teepee (přibližně v půlce filmu), Clarkson , Hammond a May vaří na ohni z parádních suchých borovicových polínek. Široko daleko však nikde nebyly žádné stromy, natož suché, a do té doby pálili jen dřevo z transportních beden. ( Brain )

Opinion: Visma-Lease a Bike’s Woes Extend Beyond Looming Tour de France Crisis

The blighted spring of the 'killer bees' is deeper than a string of debilitating crashes, and the team that completed a 'grand tour grand slam' is facing more behind-the-scenes upheaval and uncertainty..

A week is a long time in WorldTour racing, especially when it’s only three weeks away from the grand départ of the Tour de France .

For Visma-Lease a Bike ‘s men’s team, the eight-stage Critérium du Dauphiné proved that uncertainty still rules, in contrast to the rest of the peloton that can clearly see Tadej Pogačar poised as July’s Sun King in waiting.

How fast things can change in professional racing. Nine months ago, everything was wildly different. Pogačar had taken a beating from Jonas Vingegaard in the Tour, and Jumbo-Visma had just pulled off an unprecedented achievement: the grand tour “grand slam.”

The Dutch team swept all three grand tours in 2023, the Giro with Primož Roglič , the Tour with Vingegaard, and the Vuelta with Colorado’s Sepp Kuss . It was an extraordinary feat, dreamt of by previously dominant “super teams,” such as Team Sky, but until then, never accomplished.

The stars had aligned for team boss Richard Plugge and his riders. They had kept illness and injury at bay , peaked at the right time, seized opportunities when they came along, and worked diligently for the collective, rather than the individual.

This year however, the stars are laughing at them.

After a series of mishaps, they look blighted, underpowered and uncertain and, after a series of breakthrough rides, increasingly reliant on a willing, but by his own admission, limited, understudy in Matteo Jorgensen.

By the Dauphiné’s climax though, he was pondering the “what ifs.” What if he could get through some of the hardest climbs in the Alps and still be in the mix? Could he then lead the team in the Tour ?

“It’s a chance for him to see what’s possible,” Visma-Lease a Bike’s Frans Maassen told Velo .

The team’s serial misfortunes have also been in sharp contrast to the flying form of Pogačar and his colleagues. The Slovenian won over the tifosi with his showmanship during the Giro, while Visma-Lease a Bike didn’t even have a rider in the top 20 on GC.

If March this year saw Vingegaard pick up where he left off, with resounding wins in O Gran Camiño and Tirreno-Adriatico, and Jorgensen demonstrate his versatility in Dwars door Vlanderen and Paris-Nice, the wheels started to come off during the team’s spring campaign.

As Jorgensen’s stock rose, others were falling. Wout van Aert’s sickening crash took him out of the picture at the end of March, while Vingegaard’s horror fall in Itzulia Basque Country, only a few days later, saw him spend almost two weeks in hospital.

In seven days, the team had seen both its leader for the Giro and for the Tour hospitalized.

Layered on top of that, came the news that longterm sports director, Merijn Zeeman, was to follow the Dave Brailsford path of exiting cycling to work in elite soccer.

“I’ve been doing this work for 12 years,” Zeeman said. “I worked day and night for the team. You get a lot out of it, but it costs a lot too. This winter I started to notice that I was thinking: ‘Do I want to continue this for years to come?'”

Zeeman’s departure was also fueled by his curiosity about other sports. “That finally made me decide to leave this wonderful team,” the 45-year-old said. Team boss Plugge called his collaborator’s departure “sad news.”

“But,” he told GCN , “we always said that nobody is bigger than the team, no individual is bigger than the collective, so we need to make sure that the collective is able to fill in gaps if individuals are leaving.”

Even so, Zeeman’s decision to move on at the end of September 2024 came as a surprise. Only a few months earlier, he had been at the heart of the team’s search for a new sponsor, talking up plans for the next 10 years and adding: “We are entering a new chapter.”

Yet the problems didn’t end there.

Did team brass take the eye off the ball?

Pretty soon Plugge found he had yet more gaps to fill. The run of bad luck has shown little sign of ending after Dylan van Baarle and Steven Kruijswijk, key support riders to Vingegaard, crashed in the Dauphiné and were ruled out of the Tour.

Finally, with 2023 Vuelta winner Kuss struggling to recover from illness and pulling out of the Dauphiné’s final weekend, the past two months or so have been rough on Plugge’s roster.

Without the consistency of Jorgensen, second overall to Roglic in the Dauphiné, and Olav Kooij, whose stage win in the Giro saved the team’s race, there has been precious little to get excited about.

It’s all in sharp contrast to the way 2023 ended, with Plugge’s riders so dominant that they were allowed the luxury of squabbling over who finished where on the Vuelta podium in Madrid.

But what, aside from the spate of crashes , has befallen the team since the “grand slam?”

Did Plugge take his eye off the ball? Should the team have fought harder to keep Roglič and Zeeman? How destabilizing were last autumn’s merger talks with Soudal Quick-Step?

Did all the furore over the Vuelta podium, the speculation over Plugge’s role in One Cycling, the transfer wrangles over Roglic’s departure and Cian Uijtdebroeks’ move to the team, in any way fuel their dramatic decline?

Because if Ineos Grenadiers have stalled in past seasons, the results of Plugge’s riders in 2024 have nosedived. The team ended 2023 on 69 wins; this season they have racked up just 19, so far.

Jorgensen and Kuss are now expected to be the team’s headline acts at the Tour, although Van Aert will be in their thoughts, as will Vingegaard. But the Belgian’s avowed summer target is the Paris Olympics, while the speed of Vingegaard’s recovery remains unclear.

As the Dauphine ended, with Jorgenson coming close to stealing the title from Roglic on the final climb, Zeeman tweeted: “We always fight back. Resilience is what we will always show.” Meanwhile, Vingegaard, Van Aert and Christophe Laporte were training in Tignes.

With barely two weeks left before the Tour convoy gathers in Florence, there are still big calls to be made.

Do they accept this year’s Tour will be too soon for Van Aert and Vingegaard? Should the Belgian focus on Paris 2024? Is it worth Vingegaard even starting the Tour if he can’t win and should he instead target the Vuelta?

Whatever they decide, after spending much of 2024 battered and bruised, Plugge’s riders are going to need all the resilience they can muster to fend off the rampaging Pogačar on the road from Florence to Nice.
