To protect the Burj Khalifa’s facade, they had to find a way to break windows for rigging, without causing damage to other parts of the building.

Once the areas of the building were identified and the glass wall was erected, the team faced the next obstacle: rigging up the harnesses and cables that would keep Cruise safe. The actor was attached to a safety harness, which was then fastened to the side of the building itself. A variety of tools were used in the process, including a thin wire, a piece of cable, and a pair of suction gloves. Every component of the setup was meticulously brake-tested and inspected for any potential faults before Cruise was attached.

The blockbuster success of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has put Tom Cruise back in the headlines recently — yet netizens seem stuck in 2011, when the Hollywood star scaled Dubai's iconic landmark Burj Khalifa in a daring stunt for Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.

Parts of the latest Mission Impossible film, released on July 9, were also shot in the UAE — particularly at Abu Dhabi's Midfield Terminal and the Liwa Desert.

However, the Internet still can't get enough of the moment when Cruise's character Ethan Hunt climbed to the Burj Khalifa's 130th floor using a pair of special suction gloves. He walked sideways across the building’s exterior, as he hung 518m up in the air. This was released 12 years ago — but everyone remembers it like yesterday:

Remember how he also sat right at the top of the Burj Khalifa — even if he didn't really have to? This wasn't part of the movie but there he is, chilling like he was seated in some comfy armchair:

Back in 2021, actor Matt Damon revealed how Tom Cruise had apparently fired his insurance company back in 2011, after they refused to cover his Burj Khalifa stunt.

Quoting Cruise, Damon said: "Well, I went to the safety guy. I’d been dreaming of this stunt for years, and I went to the safety guy, and I explained what I was going to do, and the guy said it was too dangerous. So I got another safety guy."

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The red carpet unfurled Monday in Abu Dhabi for Hollywood action megastar Tom Cruise, who was on hand for the Middle Eastern premiere of “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.”

Cruise was met by an enthusiastic crowd of fans and movie buffs eager to catch a glimpse of the star at the Emirates Palace Hotel in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Dressed in a tailored tuxedo and flashing his signature smile, Cruise appeared moved by the exuberant reception, stopping to speak with many attendees. The evening’s buzz was punctuated by the “Mission: Impossible” theme, its familiar chords adding a layer of cinematic nostalgia to the night.

“I’m a cinephile, I love movies and the history of cinema and how this art form develops,” Cruise told The Associated Press on the red carpet. “I didn’t know whether the audience was going to embrace (the first Mission: Impossible movie), it was the first film I ever produced and I did it because I wanted to challenge myself in many ways as an actor, as a producer, as a storyteller.”

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is the seventh installment of the blockbuster $3.5 billion grossing franchise famed for jam-packed action and ever-daring stunts performed by the 60-year-old Cruise himself.

“We’ve had a lot of fun coming up with these moments,” said Cruise.

The Mission: Impossible series follows the globe-trotting adventures of Ethan Hunt, a secret agent of the Impossible Missions Force, or IMF, as he undertakes high-risk covert operations. Picture heart-racing action, sophisticated gadgets, and Cruise’s Hunt executing death-defying stunts at every turn.

Matching the topic of the moment, Hunt and his IMF team are tasked with tracking down a potent new artificial intelligence weapon in “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One." Scenes include base-jumping off a cliff on a motorcycle, hurling a steam train off an exploded bridge, and drifting a yellow Fiat 500 through Rome’s winding streets.

In a nod to the locale, the film incorporates several action sequences in Abu Dhabi. The desert landscapes of Liwa, known as the Empty Quarter, set the stage for intense horseback chases and firearm confrontations. Cruise runs across the dune-shaped roof of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new Midfield Terminal in another scene.

“When you see us shooting a sequence in Abu Dhabi, it’s about that culture, it’s about that country, and that’s why we keep coming back here,” said Christopher McQuarrie, who is returning for the third time as director of the high-octane spy series.

McQuarrie joined Cruise on the red carpet along with other Mission: Impossible co-stars, both new and returning. Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff made their franchise debut, while Simon Pegg reprised his role as Benji Dunn, a character known for infusing comedic relief into the franchise’s most tense scenes.

“When you have a film which is high-tension you need that to occasionally be injected in order to make it a little bit more enjoyable,” said Pegg.

Following pandemic delays, the production companies behind the franchise, Paramount Pictures and Skydance, pushed the film’s release from September of 2022 to July of 2023. A leaked video from the set featured Cruise launching an expletive-laden rant at colleagues after he reportedly spotted two crew members failing to respect social distancing rules. The star expressed his concern about the potential consequences, which included shutting down production and jeopardizing the then-struggling movie industry and the jobs it supports.

“We just had to write the rulebook on how to make a film during a pandemic,” said Pegg. “Make sure everything was super safe, that was Tom’s biggest challenge in a way was to make us all feel safe and be safe, somehow we muddle through."

Cruise was praised by many for his role in revitalizing Hollywood following the industry’s pandemic-induced stagnation. This recognition came on the heels of his blockbuster film, “Top Gun: Maverick,” which not only marked Cruise’s first $100 million debut but also signified the return of blockbuster movies to theaters as the most significant movie debut since the onset of the pandemic.

Abu Dhabi marks the third premiere location for “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” with the red carpet previously rolled out at the Spanish Steps in Rome and Leicester Square in London. The movie is set to open in U.S. theaters on July 12.

'Mission: Imposible. Protocolo fantasma': vídeo del rodaje

Tom Cruise se sube al edificio más grande del mundo, el Burj Khalifa de Dubai, para rodar esta peligrosa escena de la cuarta entrega de la saga.

Paramount Pictures ha lanzado un nuevo vídeo del rodaje de ' Mission: Imposible. Protocolo fantasma ', la nueva secuela de la franquicia, basada en la popular serie emitida durante los años sesenta. En él podemos ver como al director de la película, Brad Bird (' Los increíbles '), se le corta la respiración al ver a la estrella de la película, Tom Cruise (que vuelve a dar vida al agente Ethan Hunt), suspendido del, que por el momento es el edificio más alto del mundo, el el Burj Khalifa de Dubai. A pesar de contar con un doble para algunos momentos de la arriesgada secuencia, podemos ver como el actor es el protagonista de la mayor parte del clip.

En el filme, el grupo de élite al que pertenece Ethan Hun ( Cruise ) es acusado de terrorismo, cuando una bomba vuela el Kremlin por los aires. Perseguidos por las autoridades, tratarán de resolver el misterio del atentado y de paso, poder demostrar su inocencia.

Completan el reparto Jeremy Renner , Paula Patton , Tom Wilkinson y Simon Pegg .

UAE capital plays a strong role in Tom Cruise’s newest trailer of Mission Impossible

You have seen Hollywood action star Tom Cruise scale down the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in a previous installment of the Mission: Impossible series, and now it’s the turn of Abu Dhabi to enjoy a starring role in its latest chapter. In the trailer for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which was released on May 17, the UAE’s capital city plays a sturdy role.

The Liwa desert and the Midfield Terminal were both spotted in the film’s trailer which is billed as the penultimate mission of IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). The actor is also seen riding off a cliff on a motorcycle, and plunging into a forested area.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, it’s no secret that Cruise and his crew were in Abu Dhabi in 2021 to shoot a few vital action sequences for its seventh chapter. Incidentally, it’s the second time that this Paramount Pictures franchise has filmed in Abu Dhabi. In 2018, they shot a jump sequence for Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

“The Mission Impossible films are renowned for their thrilling set-pieces, intricate plots, and high-octane stunts, so we are delighted that Abu Dhabi is once again being showcased as a location where such intricate, groundbreaking moviemaking can come to life,” said Hans Fraikin, Abu Dhabi Film Commissioner, in a statement.

Apart from Cruise playing Hunt's role, the movie also features a raft of talents including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Kirby and Frederick Schmidt. The series newcomers include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, and Rob Delaney.

'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' is scheduled to premiere  on July 12, 2023.

Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible’ series continues to have enduring appeal because it’s known for its thrilling and action-packed plots. The series chronicles the adventures of Ethan Hunt (played brilliantly by Cruise) and his team of skilled agents who embark on high-stakes mission.

This franchise, which has thrived for over two decades, is big on daring stunts and intricate heists.

Cruise famously does his own stunts. From scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai to executing gravity-defying stunts in Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Desert to hanging from airplanes, this fearless stunt star has covered a lot of ground. The movies also takes you to different exotic locations around the world. Cruise’s character Hunt has evolved with each installment and his popularity hasn’t waned. This franchise has a dedicated fan base that it has garnered over the years.

It is now time for lights, cameras and much action for the dubai star in the next mission: impossible chapter..

DUBAI // The crew had been preparing for weeks. Then Tom Cruise jetted in and the long-awaited filming of the fourth instalment of the Mission: Impossible series - the biggest movie to be shot in Dubai thus far - kicked into high gear.

Even as Cruise, who starred in the three previous spy thrillers in the series, took a break from production to unveil the official name of the movie - Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol - crew members were working at various locations to prepare sets for him and co-stars Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton.

"We're very excited to be here in this beautiful city," he said. "It's a city I've always wanted to shoot in. It's very cinematic."

Also just arrived are the director, Brad Bird, the executive producer, Jeffrey Chernov, and Bryan Burk, the producer. They all resumed their work shortly after the announcement of the film's name, said a spokesman for the Dubai Government media office.

Filming will start next week and is likely to last more than three weeks. It will take place in locations across Dubai, including the Burj Khalifa and the Meydan racetrack, said an industry insider, who asked not to be named. Car chases will be filmed on the Sheikh Zayed Road and in Bur Dubai and Deira, the source said.

More than 400 crew members are expected to follow a tight schedule. They have much to do in relatively little time, said Cruise, who is co-producing the film in addition to playing the lead role of Ethan Hunt, an American spy.

Even the 1,500 extras picked to appear in the film will put in 12-plus hour days, not including the time needed to get to and from the set or take a break to eat. They will earn Dh500 a day for their effort. A dozen interns and observers chosen from the local television and film industry to participate in a knowledge-transfer programme will be expected to work around the clock.

For Dubai, the arrival of Cruise and company is a filming victory it has been vying for years. The emirate established Dubai Studio City in 2005 as a one-stop shop for all things film production in an attempt to persuade foreign studios to make movies here.

It all came together when JJ Abrams, another of the series' producers, and Mr Burk visited Dubai last year during a publicity tour. After touring the city they decided they wanted to make a film here some day, Mr Burk said.

"It is a town that was meant to be filmed," he said. "It has amazing sets [and] it's a big new city not photographed much before."

When Cruise approached Mr Abrams about making the next Mission: Impossible, they decided their chance had come. The film will also be shot in Russia, the Czech Republic, Canada and the US.

"We were looking for grandeur and something that is visually new, big and spectacular," Mr Burk said. "It is our good great fortune that we got here first."

The emirate worked so well for the film that they decided to shoot the main scenes here.

Mr Chernov said support from the private sector and the government were integral to the procession of selecting locations.

"The heartbeat and centrepiece of our movie is Dubai," he said.

In addition to skyscrapers, the producers were drawn by the fast-track assistance that Dubai offered. All manner of government bureaus, including civil aviation, ambulances and the transportation authority, were asked to help make things easy.

"These criteria [support from the public and private sector] have to be met," Mr Chernov said. "They were clearly met on our first meeting. Anywhere we go we have had a tremendous amount of support.".

Cruise emphasised how accommodating their partners in Dubai had been, from building sound stages to shuttling them quickly to numerous locations.

He was impressed by the warm welcome and the scenery, Cruise said.

"I dream about coming to places like this," he said. "It is such a stunning city."

Tom Cruise se ha erigido como un actor de renombre por participar en Misión Imposible , Top Gun , Nacido el 4 de julio , Oblivion y otras tantas producciones fantásticas.

En los últimos días hemos vuelto a ver una demostración de lo que es capaz, ya que Cruise prácticamente nunca recurre a dobles de acción para las escenas más peligrosas. Así comentaba su pasión por el riesgo el actor en una entrevista :

“Soy un actor muy físico y me encanta hacerlas. Estudio y entreno y me tomo mucho tiempo para resolverlo todo. ¡Me he roto muchos huesos! La primera vez de cualquier truco es estresante, pero también estimulante. ¡Me han dicho varias veces durante el rodaje de una acrobacia que deje de sonreír!”

Por ello, es momento de echar un vistazo a esos instantes en los que el intérprete se ha jugado el pellejo por cada una de sus películas .

Misión Imposible - Sentencia Mortal Parte I

Vamos con la más reciente de todas y una de las más espectaculares. Tom Cruise decidió realizar él mismo un salto al vacío desde un acantilado, montado en una moto y con un paracaídas a su espalda, como si esto fuese Trials Fusion . Un momento que llegó a repetir hasta seis veces, lo cual puso nervioso a más de un miembro del equipo de rodaje. Christopher McQuarrie , director de la película, casi que prefiere mirar hacia otro lado.

Misión Imposible: Protocolo fantasma

Dubái, edificio Burj Khalifa . La edificación más alta jamás construida por el ser humano, una imponente torre de 828 metros de altura en la que solo con asomarse por la venta da vértigo. Una broma para Tom Cruise, el cual no dudó en grabar sus escenas escalando a pulso y corriendo por la fachada directamente. Una vez más, el director Brad Bird no daba crédito a lo que estaba sucediendo.

La adaptación de la novela de Lee Child fue un éxito en cines que derivó en una secuela. Sin embargo, en la primera película podemos ver a Tom Cruise conduciendo un Chevrolet Chevelle SS durante una persecución que nada tiene que envidiarle a los juegos de Driver . Por supuesto, cada cambio de dirección, choque contra los muros y frenazo están ejecutados por el actor.

Misión Imposible: Fallout

Está claro que Tom Cruise se luce de la mejor forma en una de las franquicias que mayor alegría le ha proporcionado. Una de las secuencias más famosas es en la que Ethan Hunt realiza una persecución a pie por las azoteas de Londres . En un momento dado, debe realizar un salto extremadamente difícil que Cruise no dudó en rodar él mismo. ¿El resultado? Un tobillo roto, pero un compromiso inquebrantable.

El mundo futurista que dibuja la película de John Kosinski posee planos de una gran factura y una moto que más de uno desearía tener en el garaje. Por supuesto, todo lo que veamos de Cruise montado en ella está grabado realmente con él, incluso llevando a Olga Kurylenko durante una hora por el desierto.

Misión Imposible: Nación Secreta

Durante una escena de la producción, Ethan Hunt debe sumergirse bajo el agua durante un buen trecho de tiempo. Con apenas 10 días para filmar la secuencia, Tom Cruise entrenó con el preparador Kirk Krack para que su cuerpo usase muy poco oxígeno mientras él no respiraba. Su esfuerzo fue tal que logró grabar toda la escena sin cortes y estableció un récord en Hollywood al estar sumergido durante siete minutos. Recientemente, Kate Winslet le ha superado con siete minutos y catorce segundos para Avatar 2 .

Al filo del mañana

No es que hablemos de una escena en concreto, sino de prácticamente la película entera. La cinta coprotagonizada con Emily Blunt llevaba a que los personajes portasen unos exoesqueletos que potenciaban sus habilidades . Eso en el universo del film, mientras que en la vida real pesaban cerca de 60 kilos y llevaba unos 30 minutos ponerse la armadura. Por supuesto, Tom Cruise y el resto de actores grabaron sus secuencias con una real en vez de generarla por ordenador. Vamos, igualito que en The Surge .

Uno de los fracasos en la carrera de Cruise no le eximió de exigir un gran esfuerzo físico. Y es que para grabar una caída libre dentro de un avión, el director Alex Kurtzman abogó por hacerlo en un set. El actor prefirió hacerlo de verdad, subiendo a más de 7.000 metros de altur a para caer durante 22 segundos en gravedad cero. 64 tomas tuvieron que ser realizadas hasta que el equipo quedó satisfecho.

Está claro que a Tom Cruise le mola adrenalina, porque en la película de 2015 creyó conveniente estar montado en una avión mientras despegaba con él pegado al fuselaje . Una auténtica locura, aunque estaba ayudado por cables, que fue ideada por el director Chris McQuarrie tras haberse fijado en Uncharted 3 . Estáis en lo correcto, el momento en el que Nathan Drake sale volando por los aires en el desierto de Rub'al Jali.

El último samurái

Otra de las grandes películas protagonizadas por Tom Cruise. Al más puro estilo de Ghost of Tsushima , el actor se preparó concienzudamente para el papel aprendiendo kárate y kendo durante ocho meses. No solo eso, sino que se metió de lleno en el Bushido , el código ético más estricto de los samuráis.

Evidentemente, en las secuencias que había que usar alguna espada, ahí estaba él, evitando cualquier doble de acción. Hiroyuki Sanada reveló que en un duelo sobre caballos mecánicos, el cual se debía detener antes de que el filo llegase al cuello de Cruise un error casi fatal sucedió. La espada se dirigió hacia el actor, el cual pudo evitar en el último instante la estocada.

El conocido como salto HALO, pero no nos referimos al videojuego del Jefe Maestro. Nada tuvo que ver el exclusivo de Xbox en que Tom Cruise decidiese ejecutar una caída libre desde 8.000 metros y abriendo el paracaídas a tan solo 600 metros del suelo. Como vemos, el intérprete tuvo que llevar un casco especial, un dispositivo salvavidas y tener en cuenta que realizar tal acrobacia llevaba riesgos extra como la hipoxia y la embolia.

Una caída a 320 kilómetros por hora y en la que tenía que aterrizar a 90 centímetros exactos del cámara que le seguía. Una auténtica locura.

Fuera del mundo de la actuación, Tom Cruise ha demostrado ser tremendamente polifacético. Es capaz de pilotar diferentes aeronaves, tal y como hizo en Misión Imposible: Fallout , y durante mucho tiempo ostentó el récord de vuelta rápida en un reto entre famosos para Top Gear. Desde luego, un auténtico todoterreno de Hollywood.
