Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's Relationship Timeline: A Look Back

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were married for nearly six years before they called it quits.

Has anyone ever been more in love than couch-jumping Tom Cruise and  Katie Holmes ? We'll wait. Beginning in 2005, the actress and  fashion icon  (not just anyone can  pull off socks over sweatpants , alright?) engaged in a whirlwind romance with PDA-filled red carpet appearances that solidified their public image as TomKat. Within a year of meeting, they were engaged and welcomed a child together. A few months later, they tied the knot (Holmes's first marriage and Cruise's third). While many believed that the union wouldn't last — and it ultimately didn't — the pair still went on to share nearly six years together as husband and wife.

Since their 2012 divorce, we're remembering the Hollywood couple that once gave every teenager a glimmer of hope that it was possible — although highly unlikely — that maybe, just maybe, the dream of marrying their celebrity crush could become a reality.

Here's a look back at Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's relationship.

April 2005: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes first meet and are spotted together

As the story goes, after Cruise divorced  Nicole Kidman  and subsequently  split from then-girlfriend Penelope Cruz , the  Mission: Impossible  actor's beloved Church of Scientology set out to find him a worthy (and malleable) wife. After reportedly courting (and ultimately scaring off) famous women like  Sofía Vergara  and  Scarlett Johansson , the task proved more difficult than expected.

Eventually, church officials' prayers were answered through a  Seventeen  article,  per HuffPost . In October 2004, Holmes (then  engaged to Chris Klein ) told the teen magazine, "I used to think that I was going to marry Tom Cruise." 

Six months later, Klein and Holmes announced their breakup, and on April 27, 2005, Cruise and Holmes were first spotted together in Rome. TomKat made their red carpet debut as a couple two days later on April 29 at the David di Donatello Awards. Coincidence? We may never truly know.

"When I met Tom, I was completely in love, and, yes, I admired him growing up — he's Tom Cruise!" she reportedly told  T: The New York Times Style Magazine  ( via  People ).

May 23, 2005: Tom Cruise declares his love for Katie Holmes on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Cruise jolted daytime television when he appeared on  The Oprah Winfrey Show  and ecstatically jumped on her couch while professing love for his new girlfriend (who he subsequently brought out from backstage). The appearance went viral, with many questioning Cruise's sanity, as well as the relationship's authenticity.

June 16, 2005: Tom Cruise announces engagement to Katie Holmes

Shortly after going public with their relationship, Cruise announced at a press conference for  War of the Worlds  that he and Holmes were engaged. According to  The Hollywood Reporter , Cruise, then 43, proposed to Holmes, then 26, with a five-carat yellow diamond ring at a restaurant atop the Eiffel Tower.

"Today is a magnificent day for me; I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," he said, per  People . 

April 18, 2006: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcome their first child together

Holmes gave birth to a baby girl, Suri, in Santa Monica, California, in April 2006. Their newborn daughter made her public debut on the October 2006 cover of  Vanity Fair. 

The  Dawson's Creek  alum  told the magazine , " The moment the doctor handed me Suri, I was just ready. The feeling is indescribable. All I can say is the moment I looked in her eyes, I felt like ... Mom." 

Since then, the celeb offspring and fashionista has inspired one of our favorite pop culture artifacts of all time:  Suri's Burn Book . 

November 18, 2006: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes get married

In November 2006, the  Batman Begins  actress's schoolgirl fantasy of marrying Cruise came true. Their wedding was marked by an extravagant ceremony and reception at an Italian castle that cost more than $3 million, according to E! Online .

The star-studded guest list included couples  Jennifer Lopez  and Marc Anthony, John Travolta and the late Kelly Preston, and  David Beckham  and  Victoria Beckham , among others. As for the bridal party, Holmes had her sister Nancy Blaylock as maid of honor, while Cruise chose Scientology leader David Miscavige as his best man.

June 2012: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce

Interestingly, after Cruise gave a  Playboy  interview in which he praised Holmes, she filed for divorce. Although the  Top Gun  star admitted that he "didn't expect" the divorce —  per CBS News  — the legal proceedings ran smoothly, and a settlement was reached in just 11 days.

Cruise and Holmes have rarely spoken on the record in regard to their split, but it's rumored that Holmes's motivation was to free her daughter from the unique constraints of Scientology. During his deposition against Bauer Media Cruise (whose tabloids claimed he'd abandoned Suri), Cruise was asked if Holmes left him "in part to protect Suri from Scientology." 

Insulted, he said, "There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion." 

However,  according to ABC News , when prodded again, specifically as to whether Holmes had mentioned that she was leaving in an effort to protect Suri from Scientology, Cruise responded, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

Holmes was granted primary custody of Suri in their divorce. Though Cruise was afforded ample visitation, it was widely reported that he rarely saw his daughter. In 2016,  InTouch Weekly  asserted  that the actor hadn't seen or spoken to his youngest child in over 1,000 days (or two-and-a-half years).

"I used to think that I was going to marry Tom Cruise," Holmes told a reporter for Seventeen magazine, who later wrote about the interview  and its possible significance in a Huffington Post op-ed. 

During this time, Katie Holmes was engaged to actor Chris Klein. 

March 2005: Holmes and Klein split.

According to People, Holmes and her then-fiancé Chris Klein ended their five-year relationship in 2005. 

April 2005: Holmes and Cruise stepped out as a couple for the first time.

A month after Holmes and Klein split, Holmes and Cruise make their first public appearance as a couple.

The two were photographed together in Rome where Cruise was receiving a David di Donatello Award for lifetime achievement. A source told People the pair had "been dating a couple of weeks." 

May 23, 2005: Cruise declared his love for Holmes during an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

About a month after the two started dating, Cruise filmed one of his most well-known interviews ever. While on "Oprah,"  he jumped on the set's couch  to gush about Holmes.

Cruise said, "I'm in love. I'm in love and it's one of those things where you want to be cool, like, ‘Yeah I like her' … that's not how I feel." He added, "I wanted to meet this person and I met her and she's extraordinary."

June 13, 2005: Holmes said she's converting to Scientology.

At the "Batman Begins" premiere, Holmes told reporters that she was going to convert to Scientology .

In a separate interview with "W," she spoke a bit  about the process , saying, "You know, it's really exciting. I just started auditing and I'm taking some courses and I really like it. I feel like it's really helping."

June 16, 2005: Holmes and Cruise announced their engagement.

A few months after they began dating, the two got engaged . Cruise said he proposed with a teardrop-shaped ring at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. He announced their engagement the next day at a press conference for "War of the Worlds."

At the conference, a fairly quiet Holmes said the two planned to have children. 

October 6, 2005: The couple announced they were expecting.

A spokesperson for Cruise told People that Holmes was pregnant with the couple's first child together and the couple was "very excited."

April 18, 2006: Holmes gave birth to a baby girl.

Cruise's spokesperson announced that Holmes had given birth to a baby girl named Suri who was seven pounds and 20 inches long.

October 2006: Suri made her public debut.

Cruise and Holmes showed Suri off to the world on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. The couple also shared details about their daughter's name. 

"We had the name before we found out [the gender of the baby] because we both thought the baby would be a girl," Cruise told Vanity Fair. He  said their daughter's name meant "red rose."

November 18, 2006: The couple got married in Italy.

Holmes and Cruise sealed the deal with a very lavish wedding in the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. Holmes wore a Giorgio Armani gown and the two had a "double ring" Scientology wedding , as per People's report. 

January 2008: Cruise's Scientology indoctrination video went viral.

According to Gawker, a  Scientology indoctrination video featuring Cruise had leaked and spread across media outlets. The outlet described the video as "scary." 

He said, among other things, "When you're a Scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one who can really help … We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures."

May 2010: Holmes put on a show for Cruise at a Hollywood benefit.

During the benefit, Holmes performed a seductive dance to the song "Whatever Lola Wants" from the musical "Damn Yankees." She danced around her husband while he did some of his own moves.

September 2010: Holmes gushed about Cruise in an interview and talked about future children.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Holmes described being married to Cruise as "really fun," saying, "It's an amazing life, but we always remind ourselves of how incredibly lucky we are."

When asked about the possibility of having more kids, she said "maybe in a couple of years," adding that she really just wanted to focus on Suri at the moment.

May 2012: Cruise raved about Holmes in an interview with Playboy.

In a "Playboy" interview, Cruise called Holmes "an extraordinary person," saying "if you spent five minutes with her, you'd see it." He added, "I'm just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special."

June 2012: Cruise promoted "Rock of Ages" without Holmes by his side.

Many noticed when Holmes didn't appear next to her husband on the red carpet while he promoted his new film.

June 29, 2012: Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise.

In June, Holmes' team made a statement to People about how she was divorcing Cruise , who said he wasn't expecting it at all.

Holmes' attorney said, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Cruise's rep said, "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

Holmes reportedly made calls about the divorce on a disposable cellphone and hired three law firms in three states, according to the Los Angeles Times. 

July 11, 2012: Lawyers for Cruise and Holmes announced they had reached a settlement on custody of Suri.

According to People, lawyers reached a very quick settlement only 11 days after the divorce was filed.  Holmes received primary custody of 6-year-old Suri and Cruise was granted visitation rights.

April 2013: Cruise admitted he had never expected the divorce.

During an interview with German TV network ProSieben, Cruise said he didn't expect Holmes to divorce him .

He described that time of his life as a "tragicomedy," and said, "To be 50 and to have experiences and to think you have a grip on everything ... and then it hits you: This is it, what life can do to you."

10 Years Later: All the Details From Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' Lavish Italian Wedding

The stars became husband and wife in an elaborate celebration at a castle in bracciano.

"I think every little girl dreams about [her wedding]," Katie Holmes said in an interview with  Seventeen  in 2004. "I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise ."

"So let it be written, so let it be done."

As fate would have it, her childhood wishes came true less than a year later when, newly split from fiancé Chris Klein , she accepted the Oscar winner's marriage proposal, subsequently gave birth to the couple's only child, Suri , and went on to marry her girlhood crush in one of the most significant wedding ceremonies in Hollywood history.

As pop culture history goes, the marriage ended in a divorce settlement five and a half years later with primary legal custody of Suri granted to her mother.

Nevertheless, for nostalgia's sake, today marks a different milestone for those vows—their 10-year anniversary. On this day in 2006, the actors became husband and wife inside Bracciano, Italy's 15th-century Odescalchi Castle, a celebration that reportedly cost them upwards of $3 million. 

With a price tag that grand, Tom and Katie's wedding cemented itself in celebrity bridal history. From the cream of the crop Hollywood guest list and double wedding gowns to a dinner serenade by  Andrea Bocelli , it seems no expense was spared on the night Holmes became Mrs.  Tom Cruise . 

"If you get invited to that wedding, you go," Brooke Shields , a guest at the wedding, told Jenny McCarthy  in an interview on her  SiriusXM show  in January.  

Before the wedding could begin, the bride needed a gown—or two. Holmes sported two dresses during the special night, both designed by wedding attendee Giorgio Armani . For the ceremony, the  Ray Donovan  actress donned an off-the-shoulder silk and lace design adorned with Swarovski crystals. The crystals alone took 350 hours to place, as People reported at the time.

Then, she switched into a one-shoulder off-white silk organza number embellished with more Swarovski crystals.

Katie wasn't the only one to dazzle the crowd in Armani—her groom and the wedding party all wore the label for the special night. 

"Katie wanted a simple, elegant dress," Armani told People  at the time. "I wanted to make it modern but at the same time complement the sweetness and energy she conveys."

As fans would learn years later, Holmes accessorized with "something old" gifted to her by Shields. After being publicly criticized by Cruise for taking prescription medication for her postpartum depression, Shields said the actor came to her home to apologize. Soon after, she got a call from Holmes to invite her to their Italian nuptials. 

"She said, 'It just wouldn't feel right without you there,'" Shields told McCarthy during the interview in January. "And I said 'OK, I'll bring the something old, as long as it's not me!' And she said, 'would you?'"

The former face of Calvin Klein ultimately delivered the bride-to-be an antique enamel compact. 

The supermodel was just one name on the sprawling VIP list of famous attendees, which included  Will Smith  and  Jada Pinkett Smith , fellow Scientologists  John Travolta  and  Kelly Preston , David Beckham and Victoria Beckham , Jenny McCarthy and then-partner  Jim Carrey ,  Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez and former Scientologist Leah Remini . 

Once inside the castle's armory doors, guests were greeted by flag bearers sporting traditional Renaissance attire. With Cruise's older children, Connor and Isabella , Holmes' maid of honor, sister Nancy Blaylock , and Cruise's best man, Scientology leader David Miscavige , present, the couple took part in Scientology's traditional "double ring" ceremony and sealed it with a kiss. 

What followed was a seemingly endless celebration that carried into different halls of the castle, as People  described at the time. After a round of toasts, the bride danced with her father,  Martin Holmes , to  Louis Armstrong 's "What a Wonderful World" and joined Cruise for their first dance to  Fleetwood Mac 's "Songbird."

"It didn't take much time before I realized this Tom guy was a special guy—that he loved Katie, that he cared for her and supported her," Martin said during a toast at their rehearsal dinner at the Villa Aurelia. "Tonight, I am extremely proud and happy to raise my glass to Katie and Tom."

One five-tier wedding cake and fireworks display later, the guests danced the night away with music producer Mark Ronson spinning tunes and Lopez jumping in to perform one of her songs live when it came on. 

A nostalgic moment arrived when Cruise sang  The Righteous Brothers ' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" to his bride—a nod to his iconic performance in  Top Gun . 

Of course, the song now seems like a moment of foreboding as, five and a half years after they wrapped the late-night festivities and boarded a jet to the Maldives for their honeymoon, Holmes filed for divorce . The two have not remarried and Holmes continues to live with her daughter.

While their high-profile relationship was a subject of controversy and speculation since Cruise first jumped on Oprah Winfrey 's couch, the actress recently revealed she wouldn't do it differently. 

"I really enjoy my life," she told Ocean Drive   a year ago. "I don't really regret anything that I've done. I've learned from everything, and everything sort of leads you to the next place. I just keep going."

The couple first sparked dating speculation after they were seen on a trip to Europe together in 2005. Following a whirlwind romance, Cruise and Holmes got engaged later that year before welcoming their daughter in 2006. During their courtship, the Abandon star confirmed that she was going to convert to Scientology. "You know, it's really exciting," Holmes told W Magazine in 2005 about the controversial religion. "I just started auditing and I'm taking some courses and I really like it. I feel like it's really helping." The Dawson's Creek alum exchanged vows with the Top Gun: Maverick star in 2006, shortly after they expanded their family. Cruise and Holmes shocked fans when they announced their separation in June 2012 after five years of marriage. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: A Look Back at the Whirlwind Romance, High-Profile Marriage and, Of Course, Couch-Jumping

Wow. Would you think me naive for being shocked at the news of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorcing? (I can hear you yelling YES.) The thing is, they always seemed so gritted-teeth determined to PROVE they were in LOVE, I just kind of went along with it.

In any case, the five-year marriage--Katie's first, Tom's third--is kaput . (As of now, reports are alleging that Katie is seeking full custody of Suri.)

And if this divorce seems more world-rocking than other celeb splits, it's probably because their romance started off so oddly and so unbelievably high-profile. Let's take a look back--it's even more stunning now than it was then, how fast all of this happened.

2005: Weeks after Katie breaks off her engagement with longtime beau Chris Klein , Tom calls her out of nowhere and asks her out. Hmm.

Los Angeles, 12-08-04<br />

Here's one of the first shots of them in public:

Tom Cruise and his new fianc?e Katie Holmes arrived in Rome early in the morning on a private airplane from the U.S.A. The couple is staying in a suite in the Hassler Hotel, the same Hotel he visited during last vacation to Rome with Penelope Cruz before their split. Tom requested an enormous bunch of red roses and a ring for Katie. The couple only left the hotel for supper at the Piperno restaurant, another place that he frequented with Penelope Cruz.

Shortly afterwards, the couch-bounce seen round the world happens.

Then, in June, Tom proposes to Katie at the Eiffel Tower. (This is them the same month.)

April 2006: Suri is born...

Katie Holmes has given birth to a baby girl named Suri. Tom Cruise's fiancé gave birth on Tuesday morning, according to Cruise’s publicist Paul Bloch. Despite speculation the actress would have her child at home in Cruise's heavily-guarded Beverly Hills mansion, the star was admitted to hospital to give birth under the supervision of a team of doctors. According to Paul Bloch: “Both mother and baby are doing well.” The 27-year-old Batman Begins star became pregnant in June, just six months after meeting Cruise, 43. They announced their engagement in France after Tom popped the question on the top of the Eiffel tower. In the days leading up to the birth, a hugely-pregnant looking Holmes has been making almost daily shopping trips to expensive boutiques in Beverly Hills, picking up designer shoes, handbags and last minute baby items. She was last seen in public three days ago, on April 15, when she was driven to Maxfield's in West Hollywood. FILE PIC-Superstar Tom Cruise and his very pregnant fiancee actress Katie Holmes are all smiles as they arrive at Beverly Hills High School to see Tom's daughter Isabella play in her championship basketball match today. Isabella is part of the Duke's Blue Devils girls basketball side who were playing a finals match. After the game, Isabella was presented with a trophy for her part in getting the team to the finals. Isabella's adopted brother Conor was also present to cheer his sister to victory and is photographed wearing a skull cap similar to the one his father was wearing.

Back in 2012, the former Hollywood power couple  Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced to the world they were getting a divorce after six years of marriage. According to Ranker , news of the A-list split sent shockwaves throughout the world of show business and sparked waves of rumors and speculation as to why the pair decided to call it quits. So, why exactly did Cruise and Holmes get divorced?

As Extra reported, the former husband and wife first began dating in 2005. In June of that same year, the former "Dawson's Creek" star revealed that she and Cruise were engaged and that  she planned to convert to Cruise's religion of Scientology. Four months later, in October 2005, Holmes announced that she was pregnant with her first child. In April 2006, the pair welcomed their baby daughter, Suri Cruise — who has undergone a stunning transformation —  and seven months later the pair tied the knot in a luxurious Italian wedding ceremony. 

As per the Mirror , the star-studded Scientologist wedding was held at Odescalchi Castle in Italy on November 18, 2006. The nuptials were attended by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including the likes of Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta, and the former Scientologist, Leah Remini . Holmes and Cruise looked like they were well on their way to a fairytale ending.

According to InStyle , both Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have remained tight-lipped about the exact reasoning behind their divorce. However, the "Mission Impossible" actor previously revealed that he "didn't expect" his wife to file for divorce. Although neither party has confirmed why the highly publicized breakup actually took place, there are plenty of rumors surrounding Holmes' decision to get out of the marriage. One of the primary rumors was reported by HuffPost in 2013, when Cruise discussed Holmes' aversion to raising their daughter, Suri, in the Scientology religion.

While the "Top Gun" actor was being questioned during a deposition for a defamation case involving Bauer Media, a lawyer asked whether the "Dawson's Creek" alum had requested a divorce "in part to protect Suri from Scientology," (per HuffPost). The outlet went on to say that Cruise initially reacted with frustration, indicating, "there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion." However, as the attorney continued to press Cruise on the matter, the movie star admitted that Holmes' desire to keep Suri from Scientology, " ... was one of the assertions, yes."

Despite her newfound freedom as a single woman, Radar Online reported in 2016 that Holmes had made a "secret divorce deal" with Cruise that allegedly forbid her from publicly commenting on their separation or dating someone else for five years after their breakup. Though almost a decade has passed since their divorce, the "Batman Begins" actress has still remained quiet about the situation.

The most commonly accepted cause surrounding the demise of the couple's relationship is that Katie Holmes wanted to remove herself and their daughter Suri from any involvement with the Church of Scientology. Per InStyle , Tom Cruise appeared to back up this theory by admitting that one of the reasons his ex-wife filed for divorce came down to the controversial religion itself during his defamation case against Bauer media.

During the 2013 deposition, Cruise also revealed that his daughter Suri, who was just seven years old at the time, was no longer a practicing member of the Church of Scientology (via HuffPost ). This particular revelation came as a surprise to many, primarily because those who leave the Church are deemed a "Suppressive Person" and are eventually cut off from other practicing members — which includes immediate members of their own family. According to the Mirror , Cruise and Holmes' divorce settlement afforded Holmes "sole custody" of Suri, and reportedly included "'ironclad' rulings that Suri would not be exposed to anything Scientology related."

The couple wed in a lavish ceremony presided over by a Church of Scientology minister in Bracciano, Italy.

The pair had a daughter, Suki, but sadly split six years after they tied the knot.

There may not have been a happy ending but it was still a spectacular wedding.

Here's our A-Z guide to the A-list nuptials...

A is for Giorgio Armani - the famous Italian couturier was busy with the old needle and thread. Not only did he design Katie's wedding dress and Tom's morning suit, but he also ran up outfits for the rest of the bridal party.

B is for the Beckhams - the best mates of the bride and groom. Sadly, Victoria attended the wedding on her own after David was ordered back to Spain by his club Real Madrid.

B is also for opera star Andrea Bocelli. The blind Italian tenor sang Ave Maria after Katie specially requested it - an attempt to appease her Catholic folks, no doubt.

C is for "cat and comb" - two bizarre offerings that Tom pledged to provide for Katie during their marriage. A Scientology minister reads: "Girls need clothes and food, tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, a cat."

D is for daddy and discord . Martin and Kathleen Holmes were reportedly unhappy about their daughter's choice of boyfriend. Katie's dad, a divorce lawyer, is said to have clashed with "controlfreak" Cruise.

And, as a practising Catholic, said that he would not attend a Scientology wedding.

E is for the Eiffel Tower . Paris is the city for lovers and it was at its famous landmark, on June 17, 2005, that Tom told the world that he and Katie were engaged after a whirlwind seven-week romance.

F is for favours . Wedding guests took away a pair of £550 Chrome Hearts sunglasses after a £100,000 order was placed at London store Mallon & Taub. F is also for flowers. The sleepy Italian town of Bracciano spruced itself up for the big day by planting lots of red and white blooms.

G is for George Lucas . The Star Wars director offered the couple the use of his super-secret Italian hideaway if they wanted to elude the press for their nuptials.

H is for helicopters . They were allowed to buzz over Odescalchi Castle, where the couple wed, after their request for a no-fly zone was refused. H is also for Hassler - the luxurious hotel where Tom and Katie stayed in the run-up to their wedding. They reserved the seventh-floor £2,500-a-night penthouse suite.

I is for Isabella and Connor (Tom's adopted kids with Nicole Kidman) who flew to Rome with their granny, Mary Lee, to be at the Big Day.

J is for John Travolta , Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett- Smith (wife of Will Smith) who jetted into Rome's Ciampino airport ready for the big day.

Guests also included Brooke Shields, who patched things up with Tom after he criticised her for taking anti - depressants.

K is for Chris Klein - Katie's ex-fiance. The pair were engaged for five years before Katie decided the American Pie star wasn't to her taste after all. Soon afterwards, she began dating Tom.

L is for limousines . Cruise hired a fleet of these luxury cars to whisk his A-list guests the 37 miles from Rome to the wedding venue.

M is for money-minded Mayor Patrizia Riccioni , who charged the media £675 for positions overlooking the wedding venue and £200 to park a satellite truck.

She said: "While we welcome the wedding it's not fair the citizens of Bracciano should pay for these costs. We've had to bring in extra staff and extra security."

A private terrace overlooking the route of the wedding cars was offered to a TV crew for £68,000.

N is for No.3 . Katie was Tom's third wife. He first got hitched to actress Mimi Rogers in 1987 - they split three years later. Second time down the aisle was with Nicole Kidman. They married in 1990 and separated just shy of their 10th wedding anniversary.

N is also for Nino's, where more than 100 people gathered for a pre-wedding dinner. Owner Anna Guaranacci said: "Tom rang personally and asked us to prepare a menu including a big beef steak for him and similar for the guests."

O is for the ivy-clad Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano - the magnificent wedding venue which boasts six towers, spectacular gardens and its own chapel. It is owned by Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi and has been in her family for 500 years. Mayor Riccioni has confirmed that the authorities have been asked to restrict traffic at the entrance of the building today.

P is for perfume . Katie wafted down the aisle in a cloud of Clive Christian No.1 scent. It comes in a diamond and crystal flask and costs £1,245 an ounce. Phew!

Q is for queues . Not of the A-list wedding guests - who were ushered straight into the castle by security - but the crowds lining the town's streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of a few famous faces.

R is for rose-and-coffee-scented candles . Cruise ordered 6,000 of these fragrant decorations for inside Odescalchi Castle.

S is for Scientology . Tom's aides confirmed that the service will be conducted by a Church of Scientology minister flown in from the US. A civil ceremony also took place because the Scientology service is not recognised in Italy. S is also for Suri, their daughter.

T is for toilets . The town of Bracciano hired dozens of portaloos to cater for expected mass influx of TV crews and celebrity-spotters. It also laid on special shuttle buses to run visitors into its historic centre.

U is for underwear . During a shopping trip in LA, Katie splashed out £2,000 on sexy undies to wow Tom on their wedding night. At a West Hollywood store called La Bra Lingerie, she bought the Chantilly Lace Bridal collection of silk stockings, a black suspender belt, a £400 silk nightie trimmed with ostrich feathers, and a lace bra studded with crystals.

V is for Walter Veltroni , the Mayor of Rome. He asked Tom and Katie - together with baby Suri, Tom's kids Isabella and Conor and the Holmes family - to dinner at City Hall before the wedding.

W is for Oprah Winfrey . It was on her show that Tom famously declared he was crazy about Katie by jumping all over the furniture in a bizarre display of public affection.

Strangely, the chat-show queen was not invited to the nuptials. Oprah said: "It's not that I'm not going. It's that they had a limited number of people that they could invite.

"I was not one of the invitees. That's fine. I don't get invited to everyone's wedding.

"I have a great deal of respect for their relationship and so I'm trying to think of what to get them. What do you give Tom Cruise?"

X is for extra help . Tom reportedly flew in 60 members of his staff to help prepare for the wedding.

Y is for yummy cocktails . Guests quaffed Bellinis made from delicious Italian sparkling wine Prosecco. Cheers!

Z is for zabaglione - a traditional Italian dessert made from raw eggs and Marsala wine. Tom and Katie ordered it as part of their wedding breakfast. They also hired the Del Bolognese restaurant in Rome to feed their guests. Also on the menu was mozzarella and parma ham, followed by pasta with a meat or fish sauce, then a choice of beef or fish.

16. Whirlwind Romance

Tom and Katie’s relationship moved incredibly fast. In 2004, Katie told Seventeen, “I think every little girl dreams about (her wedding). I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise.” He was also a fan of hers. According to him, he admired the work she did in Dawson’s Creek and in film. In April 2005, they finally met when he invited her to L.A. to meet about a possible role in Mission: Impossible 3. She didn’t get the role, but she got the guy!

Only a month after meeting, Cruise made his famous appearance on Oprah where he confessed his love for Katie. “I’m in love! In 1986, Tom Cruise joined the Church of Scientology. He was 24. The actor claimed the religion’s study methods helped him to come over his dyslexia and have a successful career. Katie was heavily influenced by Cruise, and converted from Catholicism to the Church of Scientology after less than 2 months of dating, but she left after she filed for divorce from Cruise.

In addition, Katie distanced herself from her good friends, and fired her agent, manager, and publicist. Her name is Kate now – she’s a child-bearing woman,” he said during an interview with All Headline News. Katie reportedly decided to start going by the name “Kate” after she discussed it with Tom.

5. Blindsided Divorce

After 7 years together, the couple divorced in August 2012. Holmes initiated the split that reportedly left Cruise blindsided. Just a month prior to the news of the divorce, Cruise gushed about his relationship with Holmes. He told Playboy, “I’m just so happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special.” Several reports say that Katie went about the divorce plans secretly, like using a disposable mobile phone to contact lawyers from 3 different firms in 3 separate states. There’s also claims that she leased a secret apartment in order to keep her daughter Suri safe from Scientologists. Cruise was away in Iceland at the time and was working on the film Oblivion.

4. Solid Prenup

According to a report from Gawker, Katie had a solid prenuptial agreement that enabled her to get out of her marriage with Tom quickly. Katie’s father is a lawyer and ensured that the agreement was detailed and comprehensive. Vanity Fair claimed the agreement “filled five banker’s boxes.” As part of the agreement, Katie will receive $400,000 a year until Suri turns 18 years old, plus medical and educational expenses for their daughter. In return, Katie has stayed quiet about Scientology since their divorce.

3. Her Career Suffered

Prior to her marriage to Cruise, Holmes was on her way to becoming a successful actress. In 2005, she had roles in Batman Begins and Thank You for Smoking, both of which were box office successes. However, once she married Cruise, her career suddenly stalled. While she initially took a break from movies to raise Suri, once she came back, many of her films underperformed at the box office. There were rumors that Cruise had taken control of Holmes’ career during their marriage; however, she has since negated that.

When lawyers first asked him if this was true, the actor responded that he felt the question was “offensive,” and that “there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.” When probed further as to whether or not Holmes had said she left to protect Suri, Cruise said, “Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes.”

While Katie has remained quiet about the specifics of her divorce from Tom, it’s clear it wasn’t one of the prouder moments of her life. In a 2014 with People the actress stated, “I don’t want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am. I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. Tom’s first marriage was to  Mimi Rogers  in 1987. The actor had experienced early success in his career with  Risky Business  and  Top Gun , before he married the actress. Mimi, 66, has starred in a number of beloved movies like Lost In Space  or the first  Austin Powers  film. While the marriage was short-lived, Mimi did have a major impact on Tom, being the one who introduced him to Scientology, according to the book The Passion of Tom Cruise , via  Radar .  Her dad had been an original member of the church, via  The Hollywood Reporter .

Tom had said that the pair met at a dinner party in a 1986 profile by  Rolling Stone . In another profile , he later gushed about Mimi. “I care about my wife more than anything in the world. She’s my best friend. I just really like being with her, you know? I love her,” he said.

Unfortunately, the couple later split and broke up in 1990. In the years since the divorce, Mimi has said that she regularly gets questioned about her marriage to the  Top Gun  star, but she doesn’t really comment much. ““Any time anything happens with him I get a call: ’What do you think of Katie? What do think about this?’ … ’Yeah, he’s having a kid. Of course I think it’s great. What do you want me to say?’ ’Do you think he’ll be a good father?’ ’How do I know any more than I would know what kind of parent you would be,” she explained to  Today  in 2006.

After the split from Mimi, Tom starred alongside his future wife  Nicole Kidman in  Days of Thunder,  and the pair got married in December 1990. The couple adopted two kids: a daughter Isabella,   29, and a son Connor,  27, in the 90s. During their 11-year marriage, Tom and Nicole also starred in the 1999 film  Eyes Wide Shut  together, which Nicole, 54, looked back on fondly in a 2020 New York Times   interview. “We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning,” she said.

After 11 years together, the couple broke up, and Tom filed for divorce in February 2001. In the years after the split, Nicole said the breakup was a “major shock” in a 2006 interview with  Ladies Home Journal,  per  Today .  “I knew I was going to get hit with something. But I think a divorce, and the demise of what your family is, is a little death in itself,” she said. Shortly after the split, there had been reports that Nicole had suffered a miscarriage at the end of their relationship, but she set the record straight in a 2007 interview with  Marie Claire . She said that it was “wrongly reported,” and clarified, “I had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of [my marriage].”

Tom’s third and most recent marriage was to actress Katie Holmes .  The pair started dating in 2005, and they were quickly nicknamed “TomKat.” The actor famously declared his love for Katie in a viral interview with  Oprah Winfrey,  where he jumped on the couch on her talk show. A year after going public with their romance, Katie, 43, had their first daughter   Suri ,  16, together in April 2006. The couple got married that November. The wedding was an extravagant affair, with tons of high profile guests like  Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey,  and many more, per  USA Today.   Tom’s best man was the head of the Church of Scientology  David Miscavige,  according to the   BBC .

After six years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2012. Katie announced that she was filing for divorce, and the split was quickly resolved due to a prenup arranged by the actress’s dad, according to  Vanity Fair . After the split, Katie moved to New York with Suri. Although she doesn’t often share snaps of her mini-me daughter to her Instagram , Katie does give fans a peek at her life in the Big Apple.

She reflected on the time after the divorce in an April 2020 interview with   InStyle . “That time was intense. It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public. So many people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out, and that’s what I love about the city,” she said.

Brooke Shields “of course” was always going to attend Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ 2006 wedding — but initially joked why she would have skipped.

“I was gonna say yes to that,” Shields, 58, told Entertainment Weekly . “I was like, ‘Yes. I will — as long as I’m not the something old!'”

The “Dawson’s Creek” alum, 45, then made a special request before walking down the aisle.

“She goes, ‘Oh, will you?’ And I said, ‘What? Bring myself as the something old?'”

“I had to, like, hunt antique places,” Shields went on, “to find the perfect, you know, gift to give her.”

Luckily, the “Mother of the Bride” actress found a Victorian present for Holmes.

“It was a little compact that you put a ring … So you’re supposed to be able to look at their reflection in it and have it around their finger,” she explained to EW. “It was really beautiful.”

In 2006, Shields and Cruise got into a public spat when Cruise shamed her for taking medication to address her postpartum depression. “It was so ridiculous to me,” Shields said in her 2023 Hulu documentary, “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.”

“It’s not about the moral thing, or the right thing, or the good thing. It’s about who has more power.”

Cruise gave his take on Today with now-former co-host Matt Lauer. “There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance. The thing that I’m saying about Brooke is that there’s misinformation. She doesn’t understand the history of psychiatry,” he said at the time. Despite the feud, Shields ultimately got a wedding invite.

Holmes and Cruise, 61, meanwhile, welcomed daughter Suri that same year.

Last month, Suri — who is still estranged from Cruise — turned 18. Suri has mainly grown up in Manhattan and has been shielded from Cruise’s Church of Scientology since the exes split in 2012.

Last year, Holmes told Glamour magazine that she likes to “protect” Suri from the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

She added: “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person. She’s my heart.”

Cruise, for his part, is also dad to two adopted children, Bella, now 31, and Connor, now 29, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Earlier this month, a photograph he took with Bella and Connor in December 2023 went viral. It was the first image of the three together shown in public since 2009.

“My whole life I always wanted to be a father,” the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor told Vanity Fair in 2006.

“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep.”

He went on: “I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way.”

Katie Holmes Asked Nicole Kidman for Advice on How to Divorce Tom Cruise

His two famous exes have something of a secret friendship.

Given that the latter two have remained in Hollywood's spotlight after their divorces, longtime fans have been wondering if Kidman and Holmes ever struck up a friendship.

The answer? It may genuinely surprise you.

As it turns out, the women definitely had a rapport while Holmes was married to Cruise in the late aughts. This would make sense, as the Dawson's Creek actress not only shared daughter Su ri with the Mission: Impossible actor, but she was also stepmom to Kidman and Cruise's kids, Isabella and Connor.

But no one would've known that Kidman and Holmes even had some sort of friendship behind the scenes, because neither one discussed the other in interviews. In fact, Kidman often refrains from talking about anything involving Cruise, telling The Cut in October 2018:

"Being married to Tom Cruise at 22 is something I'm always reluctant to talk about, because I'm married now to the man who is my great love [Keith Urban], and it almost feels disrespectful."

While it may have looked like Kidman and Holmes didn't have much in common past their shared ex, the two bonded over one major storyline in both of their lives: figuring out a way to get out of their respective marriages to the star.

In fact, when Holmes filed for divorce in June 2012, she sought out advice from Kidman for the best way to do so, both personally and legally.

"They’ve spoken over the last few weeks," a source told Us Weekly at the time of Katie and Tom's divorce. "Nicole has been supportive, saying she’s been through it too and to hang in there."

Almost a decade later, another source told OK! Magazine the same thing, saying that the two related to each other on the subject of being married to one of biggest actors in Hollywood. "They shared a very unique experience,” a source said to the outlet in August 2021. “Nicole knew firsthand how difficult it was to walk away from Tom and the stress that comes with being married to such a huge star.”

Fans may think that Holmes divorcing Cruise would've been the end to hers and Kidman's relationship ... and it kind of was. The two have since moved on from their respective marriages, but it doesn't mean they don't have each other's backs. The same source continued to tell OK! , "[Katie] has a lot of respect for Nicole as one of the best actresses of her generation and also as a compassionate and impressive human being."

So, there you have it. Two drastically different women, both tied to the same man forever. And who knows? Maybe they're still giving each other advice on how to handle being in Cruise's shadow, even years after their divorces.

Katie Holmes e Tom Cruise, per il loro matrimonio, scelsero un autunno italiano. Era il 18 novembre del 2006 quando il Castello Odescalchi di Bracciano, risalente al XV secolo, ospitò una cerimonia sfarzosa costata oltre 3 milioni di dollari. 

La coppia d'attori - all'epoca la più chiacchierata al mondo - non badò a spese per celebrare in grande stile un amore che esattamente 7 mesi prima (il 18 aprile 2006) aveva dato alla luce una bambina, Suri . I futuri sposi prima di arrivare al lago di Bracciano, sbarcarono a Roma, presto raggiunti dagli amici invitati, una parata di stelle del mondo del cinema e della musica che per quell'intero weekend avrebbe trasformato la sede del matrimonio in Hollywood.

“ Penso che ogni bambina sogni il suo matrimonio - disse nel 2004 Katie Holmes in un'intervista a Seventeen - Io pensavo che avrei sposato Tom Cruise ”. Presto detto, presto fatto. Era il 2005 quando l'attrice classe ‘78, reduce dal fidanzamento durato due anni con Chris Klein, si ritrovò la cotta della sua infanzia a chiederle la mano, volando fortissimo, in stile “Maverick”. Dalla prima scintilla alla gravidanza, Katie accettò la proposta credendo ciecamente in un sogno che cinque anni e mezzo dopo purtroppo svanì con un accordo di divorzio e la custodia legale di Suri affidata alla Holmes. A rendere incancellabile la loro storia d'amore - sebbene inserita in un mondo ancora (per poco) privo di smartphone e social network - fu proprio quella cerimonia. 

La cena da Nino con gli altri figli e gli ospiti

Tutto cominciò il giorno prima, a Roma. Il 17 novembre la capitale fu presa d'assalto da fotografi e giornalisti, prontamente appostati tra la location della cena della vigilia di nozze - il Ristorante Nino - e l'albergo - l'Hotel Hassler - che avrebbe ospitato gran parte degli ospiti invitati, un autentico esercito di vip che comprendeva Brooke Shields, Will Smith e Jada Pinkett Smith, John Travolta con la compagna, la compianta Kelly Preston, David Beckham e Victoria Beckham , Jenny McCarthy e l'allora compagno Jim Carrey e infine Jennifer Lopez (che venne con il marito di allora, Marc Anthony . Erano presenti anche Isabella e Connor , i figli adottivi di Tom Cruise e della sua ex moglie Nicole Kidman.

Il giorno delle nozze: Bracciano blindatissima

Già dalla tarda mattinata del 18 novembre, Piazza Mazzini di Bracciano si riempì subito di curiosi, soprattutto giovanissimi. La cittadina laziale fu letteralmente blindata , con guardie forestali, carabinieri, polizia municipale e provinciale che fin dall'alba pattugliava tanto le strade di ingresso alla città quanto i vicoli medioevali del centro storico, svuotato di tutte le auto. Le misure di sicurezza riguardarono soprattutto il Castello degli Odescalchi, la location del matrimonio: sulle antiche mura si appostarono addirittura due tiratori scelti dell'Arma dei Carabinieri. 

La no fly zone richiesta da Tom Cruise e negato dall'allora prefetto di Roma Achille Serra (non si poteva chiudere lo spazio aereo per cerimonie private) rese ancor più caotico lo scenario, con diversi elicotteri che sorvolavano il Castello e decine di fotografi a cavalcioni su davanzali di finestre private di abitazioni affittate per l'occasione.

Il menù Top Gun

Bracciano era in tilt da giorni, pronta a far da 'red carpet' ai divi per soddisfarne capricci e appetiti: i ristoranti del posto fecero a gara per offrire ai clienti menu " Top Gun " (Il Ristorantino, con fettuccine ai frutti di mare "Mission Impossible" e torta di mele "Suri") o " Tom e Kat " (La Trattoria del Castello). Nel pomeriggio, nel delirio della folla, arrivò la macchina che trasportava Tom Cruise. La futura consorte era arrivata diverse ore prima: era apparsa quasi eterea, dietro il vetro di una finestra del Castello.

Gli invitati italiani

Poco dopo ecco anche gli invitati italiani. Roberta Armani , nipote dello stilista ufficiale delle nozze - Giorgio Armani - fece il suo ingresso (accompagnata dal marito Angelo Moratti) nella piazza a bordo di una limousine salutando la folla dal finestrino. Arrivarono poi Walter Veltroni (insieme alla famiglia) e la proprietaria del Castello, la principessa Maria Pace Odescalchi , con il marito Giuseppe Recchi, presidente di General Electric Italia.

Altro grande ospite, oltre a Re Giorgio, anche Andrea Bocelli che avrebbe dovuto regalare alla sposa l'interpretazione, poi saltata, dell' Ave Maria di Schubert. 

Un red carpet romano

I più attesi erano però i divi di Hollywood invitati alle nozze, ai quali si aggiunse, a sorpresa, anche Richard Gere . Arrivarono tutti più o meno puntuali, ma nessuno scese dall'auto per salutare i fan. Per vedere come erano vestiti, i fotografi si appostarono fuori dall'Hotel Hassler, nel breve tratto tra l'ingresso dell'albergo e la macchina pronta ad accoglierli e a trasportarli a destinazione. Tra gli altri, spiccarono Will Smith e Jada Pinkett , una Brooke Shields in rosso, una Victoria Beckham vestita Valentino e la star più attesa, Jennifer Lopez , che si presentò in vestito bianco con le spalle, i capelli raccolti ai lati e sciolti sulle spalle, orecchini di perle.

Il rito di Scientology

Una volta entrati nelle porte dell'armeria del castello, gli oltre 150 ospiti furono accolti da sbandieratori che indossavano i tradizionali abiti rinascimentali. Con un po' di ritardo, verso le 20, iniziò la cerimonia secondo il rito di Scientology , il culto fondata dallo scrittore di fantascienza L. Ron Hubbard e alla quale appartiene Cruise (e che fu causa della sua rottura con la Kidman, cattolica). Questo rito non è riconosciuto dalla legge italiana e fu per questo preceduto da una regolare rito civile, celebrato nella Sala delle armi dall'allora sindaca di Bracciano, Patrizia Riccioni. Durò solo 15 minuti, alla presenza dei figli maggiori di Cruise, Connor e Isabella, della damigella d'onore della Holmes, la sorella Nancy Blaylock, e del testimone di Cruise, il leader di Scientology David Miscavige. Il rito prevedeva che Tom donasse simbolicamente a Katie un gatto, una pentola e un pettine . Lei ricambiò promettendo di renderlo felice e subito dopo la coppia si scambiò le fedi davanti a un crocefisso d'argento.

La festa con la torta speciale

Quello che seguì fu un party principesco, con centinaia di candele, drappi di raso oro e rosso, tovaglie di fiandra, posate d'argento, centrotavola di rose rosse e bianche. I colori della festa - rosso, bianco e oro - furono un omaggio degli sposi al casato dei principi che diedero i natali a Papa Innocenzo XI . Il menù, a base di cibo e vino italiano, vide nel finale una torta a cinque piani arrivata dagli Stati Uniti e con un effetto speciale a sorpresa: al primo taglio sparse sugli sposi centinaia di petali di rosa. Dopo un giro di brindisi, la sposa ballò con il padre, Martin Holmes , sulle note di What a Wonderful World di Louis Armstrong. Poi ballò con Tom Cruise Songbird dei Fleetwood Mac. 

Il Castello “esplode” per i fuochi d'artificio

Dopo uno spettacolo di fuochi d'artificio - con il castello illuminato da luci suggestive e tantissime fiaccole poste lungo il muro di cinta e sui merli - gli ospiti ballarono tutta la notte con il produttore musicale Mark Ronson che faceva girare i brani e Jennifer Lopez che si esibiva dal vivo con una delle sue canzoni. Un momento nostalgico è arrivato quando Cruise ha cantato You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling dei Righteous Brothers alla sua sposa, facendo riferimento alla sua iconica interpretazione in Top Gun. I festeggiamenti a tarda notte e l'imbarco su un jet per le Maldive per la luna di miele.

Le creazioni di Giorgio Armani

Dal momento in cui sono arrivati a Roma a quello in cui sono partiti per la luna di miele, Giorgio Armani è stato l'uomo dietro a tutto ciò che Tom Cruise e Katie Holmes hanno indossato durante la settimana. Durante la serata più speciale, la mitica Joey Potter di Dawson's Creek sfoggiò due abiti: per la cerimonia un abito off-the-shoulder in seta e pizzo ornato di cristalli Swarovski (per cui servirono ben 350 ore di lavoro) con uno strascico di seta avorio; per la festa un abito monospalla in organza di seta bianca impreziosito da altri cristalli Swarovski. 

Lo stilista italiano descrisse così la sua creazione dell'abito da sposa. “ Katie voleva un abito semplice ed elegante , ricco di materiali e con una silhouette sottile. Non avrei potuto essere più d'accordo. Volevo renderlo moderno ma allo stesso tempo complementare alla dolcezza e all'energia che trasmette ”.

Per quanto riguarda lo sposo, Giorgio Armani vestì Tom Cruise con uno smoking blu navy della collezione sartoriale Giorgio Armani Hand Made to Measure . L'etichetta della giacca recitava: " Giorgio Armani per Tom Cruise ". Lo stilista curò anche gli abiti del resto della famiglia di Cruise (la madre Mary Lee e la sorella Cass) e Holmes (mamma Kathleen, la sorella e damigella d'onore Nancy), compresa la piccola Suri che indossò vari strati di organza e chiffon che, secondo Armani, “ si ispiravano alla mamma sposa ”.

Dopo una notte di festa e di balli, alle 6.50 del 19 novembre i novelli sposi partirono da Ciampino con un jet privato diretto alle Maldive, per la luna di miele. Dal Castello di Bracciano ai castelli di sabbia, quelli che si costruiscono ma che, come il loro amore, non sono destinati a durare.

Tom Cruise reapareció junto a sus dos hijos, Connor y Bella Cruise , en un partido de hockey en Florida. Una imagen con la que el actor marca una diferencia en cuanto a la relación que mantiene con sus tres hijos. Suri, la hija que tuvo durante su matrimonio con Katie Holmes, cumplió 18 años el mes pasado y él no estuvo en la celebración, porque aunque el protagonista de Top Gun   cubre sus necesidades financieras , no está presente en la vida de la niña desde hace una década, señalaron fuentes cercanas a la actriz de Dawson crece . Tom Cruise se distanció de su hija un año después de separarse de Katie Holmes. En ese momento se informó de que Katie Holmes no estaba de acuerdo en criar a su hija en la Cienciología y parece ser que su decisión de abandonar esta religión hizo que  l a relación de Tom y Suri  se volviera cada vez más distante.

Un vínculo que al parecer no es el mismo que mantienen con su madre, ya que recientemente la ganadora del Oscar por  Las horas recibió un homenaje en Hollywood y no estuvo presente ninguno de sus hijos mayores, aunque no faltaron las hijas nacidas de su unión con Keith Urban, Sunday Rose y Faith Margaret, de 16 y 13 años .

Esta foto grupal, en la que aparece Tom Cruise con sus hijos, data de diciembre de 2023 , pero ha sido compartida por el exjugador de la NFL retirado Derrick Brooks y ha trascendido ahora a los medios. "Buenas noches, ¡guau, mira quién pasó por mi oficina antes de nuestro partido [Tampa Bay Lightning] esta noche! Tom Cruise", comentó efusivamente el deportista, de 51 años, a sus seguidores . "Me quedé un poco impresionado, pero lo hice con calma y ¡el dijo que él también!". En la imagen Tom Cruise rodea a Brooks con el brazo mientras su hijo Connor, levantaba el pulgar en señal de que todo iba bien y la  hija de Cruise, Bella, aparece por detrás en la foto  con la cabeza asomando junto a un numeroso grupo de personas.Se trata de la primera foto de Tom Cruise con sus dos hijos juntos desde 2010 cuando fueron fotografiados con Suri.

Cruise y Kidman adoptaron a Bella en 1992 después de que la actriz se sometiera a numerosos tratamientos de fertilidad sin éxito  y Connor se unió a la familia tres años después . La expareja estuvo casada algo más de una década, entre los años 1990 y 2001. Con el tiempo, la actriz de Big Little Lies  concedió una entrevista en la que abordó el tema de los dos hijos que adoptó junto a Tom Cruise . Bella y Connor practican la cienciología y Nicole ha hablado previamente sobre sus creencias."Tengo que proteger esas relaciones. La hija de Tom Cruise y Katie Holmes , casi dos meses después de cumplir 18 años, reaparece como pocas veces en redes sociales para revelar su futuro académico, una decisión que ha sorprendido debido a que para perseguir sus sueños tendrá que mudarse de Nueva York, la ciudad donde ha vivido siempre.

A través de un divertido video compartido en el TikTok de una de sus amigas, la joven Suri Cruise aparece como pocas veces, emocionada y luciendo con orgullo una sudadera de la universidad que ha elegido para esta nueva etapa en su vida.

De acuerdo con el tabloide británico Daily Mail , Suri fue aceptada en la Universidad Carnegie Mellon, una institución privada que se ubica en Pittsburgh, Pensilvania, y que es considera como uno de los centros educativos más de Estados Unidos. Tal como se había informado, la hija de Katie Holmes es una gran apasionada de la moda, razón por la que estudiará en la Escuela de Diseño.

Lo anterior también fue confirmado por la propia Suri, quien aparece en un video de TikTok luciendo una sudadera roja con 'Carnegie Mellon', el nombre de su próxima escuela, escrito en letras blancas, misma dinámica que utilizaron sus amigas para revelar la escuela por la que se decantaron.

En su momento, un insider reveló el sentir de la actriz estadounidense, de 45 años, ante el futuro de su primogénita, quien deseaba pudiera elegir Nueva York para seguir su camino; “Katie está muy orgullosa de ella pero también es extremadamente sobreprotectora”,

Tiempo de cambios y decisiones importantes para Suri Cruise , de 18 años, hija única de Katie Holmes y Tom Cruise . En otoño, la joven se trasladará a Pittsburgh para iniciar sus estudios en la Universidad Carnegie Mellon , una de las mejores universidades de Estados Unidos (ocupa el puesto 24 de 439 según una reciente encuesta que evaluaba su calidad global). No a Nueva York, pues, como algunos habían especulado al principio, a pesar de que Pensilvania está a poco más de 600 kilómetros de casa.

La elección la desveló la propia Suri en un vídeo en TikTok con sus compañeros de la Avenues The World School de Manhattan. Fue publicado en el conocido como Día del Compromiso Universitario, cuando las universidades cierran las matrículas y los chicos deciden dónde continuar sus estudios. Suri y sus compañeros aparecían con sudaderas y camisetas de sus futuros colegios. Para Suri será la primera vez lejos de su madre Katie Holmes, con quien siempre ha vivido en Nueva York tras la separación de sus padres. Tom Cruise, por su parte, lleva años sin ver a su hija. Según diversas fuentes, por culpa de la Cienciología, la secta de la que es adepto y miembro destacado desde hace tiempo.

"Si él la llamara, ella no querría saber nada de él. No quiere depender de él", declaró una fuente al Daily Mail el pasado abril, en vísperas del 18 cumpleaños de Suri. Holmes es la única progenitora que Suri ha tenido desde el divorcio de los dos actores en 2012. "Intento hacerlo lo mejor posible e inspirarme en la educación que mis padres me dieron a mí y a mis hermanos", reveló la actriz hace un tiempo. " Todo lo que hago es por ella". Katie Holmes está "muy orgullosa de ella, pero también es extremadamente sobreprotectora", según afirmó una fuente cercana a la familia hace unos meses. Al parecer, a la actriz le hubiera gustado tener a su hija cerca, pero crecer también es irse de casa.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri reveals where she’s attending college

Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes , has hinted at her college plans in a TikTok video.

The 18-year-old high school senior revealed that she’ll be heading to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the fall. A TikTok video posted by a fellow high school student, which has since been made private, showed Suri and her classmates at New York City’s LaGuardia High School showing off their college sweaters.

The clip was set to the Hannah Montana song, “I’ll Always Remember You,” as each graduating senior used their hands to reveal their new alma mater. After Suri showed off her red Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt, she then did a little dance for the camera.

“LaG commitment day,” the student captioned the TikTok.

The Mission: Impossible star, 61, and the Dawson’s Creek alum, 45, welcomed their daughter Suri in April 2006. The actors met one year prior and were engaged two months later. Holmes and Cruise tied the knot during an Italian ceremony in November 2006, and Holmes later filed for divorce in June 2012 after five years of marriage.

According to Page Six , their daughter celebrated her 18th birthday in New York City last month while her father was in London.

Holmes has previously opened up about working hard to “protect” Suri because of her childhood in the spotlight. “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” the Batman Begins star told Glamour in April last year. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”

The mother of one even enlisted her daughter to join her on a recent project. Suri sang “Blue Moon” during the opening credits of Holmes’ 2022 film, Alone Together , and also sang vocals on her 2023 movie, Rare Objects.

“I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her,” Holmes said. “But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space.”

She continued: “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

While much of Suri’s early life was captured by paparazzi, Holmes shared in an essay for Vogue Australia how the mother-daughter duo were able to embrace their newfound private lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Hobbies such as sewing, painting and writing became new hallmarks of satisfaction and having had time at home to just be. To listen. To live for a moment in time without the pressure of results and instead appreciate the natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift,” she wrote in 2020.

Holmes also revealed that she and Suri watched Dawson’s Creek together during the height of the pandemic. The actor was just 19 years old when she starred as Joey Potter on the WB series, which ran from 1998 to 2003.

“She has seen Dawson’s Creek , and I think it’s probably weird since she’s a teenager,” Holmes told Variety in March 2023. “I’m not like, ‘You need to watch mommy’s work.’ But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it. It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this.”

"She was talking to Tom on the phone until last week saying, 'I love you,' " says a source

Katie Holmes ‘s decision to leave Tom Cruise may have seemed sudden , but it involved meticulous planning.

And no one was more shocked than Cruise himself.

“She was talking to Tom on the phone up until last week saying, ‘I love you,’ ” a source tells PEOPLE of the actress.

“Her inner circle has been planning this and switching out cell phones since she was in China [in mid-June],” adds the source.

“When new cell phones arrived, then nobody could reach her. Her old best friends from last week don’t have her new number, no email. She’s unreachable.”

Holmes, 33, also rented her new apartment in New York City in early June. “[Tom] knew that she moved there, but [he thought it was] for different reasons,” says the source.

“She said she moved there to drive into the underground garage. There are fewer paparazzi and it’s less intrusive for her,” says the source. “It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that’s why she was able to say she’s moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him.”

Then, last week, her father, Martin Holmes , arrived in New York and helped his daughter clean house, firing many of the people around her shortly before Holmes filed for divorce anonymously in New York City.

Cruise, then filming in Iceland, “had no idea this was coming,” a source tells PEOPLE in the magazine’s new cover story, on newsstands now.
