DUBAI TOURIST VISA EXTENSION PROCESS

Visit visa extension in Dubai has become easier with the UAE government’s introduction of online channels and portals. These service channels allow you to conveniently manage entry permits, their validity, extension, and cancellation processes. Let’s first take a look at the visa extension process.

ELIGIBILITY

Before applying for a Dubai visa extension, you must check whether you fit the eligibility criteria. To apply for an extension, you must be a citizen of an eligible country and hold a valid passport with at least 6 months expiry date.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR VISA RENEWAL IN DUBAI

You will need the following documents to renew your tourist visa in Dubai.

• A transcript of the applicant’s passport. Ensure the passport has a minimum validity of six months.
• A passport-size photo with a white background.
• Valid health insurance.
• A ticket to and from your country.
• Proof of a hotel/place of residence.

VISA RENEWAL/EXTENSION SERVICE CHANNELS

There are multiple ways to apply for a visit visa extension in Dubai. You can choose any of the methods listed below. They allow you to extend your visa for one or more trips for the same period.

• Sign up or log in to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai ( GDRFA ) app.
• Go to the dashboard and open dependent visa details.
• Tap the “Renew Residence” icon.
• Fill up the details.
• Select delivery method.
• Attach documents.
• Submit the fee.
• Wait for SMS/email confirmation.

• Login/Register to the GDRFA website.
• Click the “Services Guide”.
• Go to the “Entry Permissions” option and click “Entry Permissions Sevices”.
• Scroll down to the “Extension of entry permit” option and click it.
• Select the most relevant service from the options listed on the site.
• Click the “Start the Service” icon on the top-left.
• Go to Amer’s website (amer247.com).
• Click “UAE tourist visa” in the top-right corner. You will be redirected to a new tab featuring 14 types of tourist visas varying based on the number of days, validity and prices.
• Select the most relevant one for you and click “Apply Now”.
• Fill out the form by entering your credentials and travel details (number of passengers, passport copies and photos with white background).
• Pay the fee.
• Proceed to the completion of the process.
• Go to the nearest Amer typing centre in Dubai .
• Buy a queue ticket and wait.
• Submit your application.
• Wait for your request to proceed.

VISA PROCESSING TIME

Usually visa extension in Dubai takes 3 to 5 business days. However, the time may vary according to your visa type and other specific requirements.

Once you’re extended visa is processed, you can collect it via the visa application centre or a local post office as directed by the authorities.

HOW TO EXTEND TOURIST VISA IN DUBAI UPON ARRIVAL

Citizens of some countries can renew tourist visa in Dubai upon arrival for the same period. Here’s how to do it.

• Log in to the GDRFAD smart service system through username or UAE Pass
• Search for the visa renewal service
• Fill in the application data
• Pay the service fee

The following citizens can apply for a visit visa extension in Dubai upon arrival:

• USA visa holder
• US National
• UK residence visa holder
• Citizens with residence visa from European Union countries
• Indian national with at least one special visa that is valid for six months or more

COST OF TOURIST VISA EXTENSION IN DUBAI

The general visit visa renewal UAE price is AED 600 with a 5% value-added tax. However, for those inside the country, the fee is AED 500.

The following additional fees are applicable if the sponsored person is inside the country.

Please note that the total visit visa renewal UAE price may vary depending on the circumstances surrounding the sponsored individual.

DUBAI TOURIST VISA EXTENSION FINE

Visa overstayers who don’t renew their tourist visa will have to pay a fine of AED 50 for each extra day they have overstayed. There used to be a 10-day grace period after which the fine was imposed. However, that is no longer the case, and the fine is imposed right after the day your visa has expired.

VISIT VISA EXTENSION IN DUBAI RULES

• There are multiple types of tourist visas in Dubai , including five-year multiple entry tourist visa, Dubai visa on arrival and Dubai Visit Visa for GCC Nationals and Residents.
• You can extend the validity period of UAE visa for additional 30 days, it can be done twice for every 30 days.
• You can stay in the country for up to 120 days within the same year, this is the maximum duration allowed, and after this, you will have to extend your visa.
• Check the expiry date of the first extension and apply for a second renewal before it expires.

EXEMPTION FROM A TOURIST VISA EXTENSION IN DUBAI

Certain tourists are not required to apply for a tourist Dubai visa extension. These include:

• Residents in GCC countries
• Visitors accompanied by GCC nationals
• Those on special entry permits
• Those on a “96-hour permit for special missions”

For how long a tourist visa remains valid.

The duration of a tourist visa depends upon its type. In Dubai, you may opt for a single-entry or multiple-entry visa. According to the new rules, a single-entry visa is valid for 30 or 60 days and can be extended for another 30 days.

• Visit the online portal of ICP/ICA.
• Click on the “Services” tab.
• Find “Individual Services” from the drop-down menu and click it.
• Scroll down to the “Extension of a Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa” and click it.
• Click the “Start Service” icon in the top-right corner.
• Register via UAE Pass.
• Apply to extend permit (Single/multiple entries).

Alternatively, you can visit ICP/ICA-approved typing centres to initiate the visa extension process in the UAE.

DO AIRLINES OFFER A VISIT VISA IN THE UAE?

You can apply for a visit visa through airlines like Etihad Airways, Emirates, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia. Each of them has different conditions. However, their basic condition is that you are flying with them.

CAN I APPLY FOR A RESIDENCE VISA IF I AM WORKING OUTSIDE THE UAE?

Yes, foreigners employed outside the UAE can apply for a virtual work visa . This one-year visa allows you to enter the country under self-sponsorship and work as per the terms and conditions of the issued visa.

CAN INDIVIDUALS BELOW 18 YEARS APPLY FOR A DUBAI TOURIST VISA EXTENSION?

The UAE recently implemented revised rules for those who wish to renew their visit visa or tourist visa. Here are three ways it is being done:

Exit UAE to renew visit visa

The most budget-friendly alternative is to leave the UAE via bus and travel to Oman. A new UAE visa will then be applied and once it is issued, the individual can return to the UAE. A UAE visa is usually issued on the same day, but a visa to enter Oman takes up to two days to process.

UAE visa renewal without exiting the country

Dubai offers visa change to those who wish to renew their UAE tourist visa or visit visa without exiting the country. However, this is only available until Dubai Immigration updates its system. It is also available only to those whose visas were issued in Dubai.

Airport-to-airport visa change

You can renew your visa with a short flight without having to leave the airplane. Airport-to-airport (A to A) is the fastest way to get your visa, although a bit costlier than other alternatives. Travel agents will arrange for your new visa to be issued just in time so you can hop on the plane to exit to a neighbouring country and fly on the same flight back to the UAE.

So what are UAE visit visa renewal rules?

Those whose visas were issued in Dubai can extend their visa without leaving the country. The process is in place until further notice.

Those who have a visit visa from any other emirate and want to extend their stay in the UAE on visit visa must exit the country and apply for a new visa.

Documents required to get the Dubai 3-Month Visa

The following is a list of the documents you must submit to obtain a visit visa for Dubai valid for three months, either with a single entry or multiple entries.

• Confirmed return flight tickets to Dubai and back.
• Scanned copy of your passport's first and last pages provided it has a minimum of 6 months validity.
• Scanned colored photocopy of your passport-size photograph taken on a white background.
• Scanned color photocopy of your PAN card.

How long does it takes to get the 3 Month Dubai Visa

It takes 3-4 working days from the submission date (excluding Friday, Saturday, and any UAE Holiday) to process 3 Months' Dubai Visa. You are required to apply between 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If you think the 3-4 working days are too long, you can get the Dubai Express Visa because it takes 36 hours from the time of application submission, and you are issued with the visa. The application excludes Friday, Saturday, and any UAE holiday. To have the application for Dubai Express Visa processed on time, you must apply from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Dubai 3-Month Visit Visa Price

The fee for a standard processing, single-entry visa valid for three months in Dubai is AED 800. The prices for a visa to stay in Dubai for three months include all applicable taxes and service charges.

The cost of a multiple-entry visa valid for three months in Dubai is AED 2,250. It would cost you AED 2200 to extend your visa by three months or get a new one while you live in Dubai.

• A candidate who has previously applied for and been granted a Dubai Visa Online but has not traveled to the country.
• A candidate who applied for and was granted a work visa through the relevant organization but who did not enter or visit the nation
• An applicant who formerly resided in the UAE but left the country without first canceling his visa to enter Dubai after leaving the country

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently has a more lenient policy regarding the visa extension . It enables travelers to extend their visas twice within the UAE without leaving the country.

Dubai: Whether you have a residence visa with a validity of one year, two years, three years or more, it is important to know what you should do to renew it when it expires.

Here is a detailed guide on the steps you need to follow.

When should I renew my visa?

The time limit to renew an expired residence visa is 30 days from the date of expiry. However, if there is a need to renew it a few months earlier (one to six months) for travel reasons, you must first take special permission and approval from the relevant General Directorate of Residency and Foreigner’s Affairs (GDRFA) in the emirate that issued your visa. This is as stated on the official UAE government website – u.ae.

Step 1 – Fill in the Emirates ID application.

The first task you must complete is to get your Emirates ID application typed. This can be done online through the website of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) website - icp.gov.ae, or going to any registered typing centre in the UAE and having a public relations officer (PRO) or representative complete the process for you. If you choose the second option, you will need to pay additional service charges for the typing centre.

Required documents

To ensure you do not delay the process for your Emirates ID renewal, keep the following documents ready:

• Recent coloured photo   • Front and back page of your passport • Residence visa copy • Old Emirates ID card copy - front and back

According to Amer, which is a centre that processes immigration applications on behalf of Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), the cost of renewing your Emirates ID depends on the validity of your Emirates ID :

• Dh195 – for one year• Dh295 – for two years • Dh395 – for three years

How long will the process take?

According to the ICP website, issuing an Emirates ID takes up to five days. Once that is complete and the Emirates ID application is approved, it will be sent to be printed by the ICP. Once it is printed, you will receive a notification via email and SMS. You can then collect your ID from the Emirates Post office near you.

Step 2: Take the medical fitness test

Once you have applied for the Emirates ID, you must then take the medical fitness test.

Conducting a medical fitness test is mandatory for all UAE residents for visa renewal under the age of 18. According to u.ae, a medical fitness test is conducted to ensure that UAE residents are free from all communicable diseases such as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and TB (Tuberculosis).

To take the medical test, you must go to a government-operated medical fitness centre. There are different health authorities that you would need to visit, depending on the Emirate that has issued your visa:

Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), Disease Prevention and Screening Centre

Dubai – Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Medical Fitness Centres

Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain – Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) Medical Examination Centres

Regardless of where you apply, you will need the following documents:

• Valid Passport copy • Valid Emirates ID copy • Coloured photograph with white background • You may also need to keep a copy of your Emirates ID application form, depending on which Emirate you are applying in.

The standard cost for a medical fitness test is Dh250.

How long does the process take?

Once you have completed the medical fitness test at the centre, you will receive your results via SMS and email. In addition, the medical fitness certificate will be sent via courier to you, according to MOHAP. The medical fitness test is a prerequisite for residence visa renewal.

Step 3: Renew your residence permit

According to an announcement by ICP on May 16, the Emirates ID cards have replaced residence visa stickers in the UAE as the primary proof of residency. However, as reported by Gulf News earlier , the visa sticker is still being issued in Dubai.

Once you have received your medical fitness certificate through courier, you can proceed to apply for your residence visa renewal.

You can renew the permit online  or through a registered typing centre. If you have completed the process online the registered courier company will pick up your passport from the address that you have provided. If you complete the process at the immigration centre, you can submit your passport at the courier company’s kiosk at the centre.

For the residence visa renewal, you will need to submit the following documents:

• A recent colour photograph with a white background. • Passport copy • Medical fitness certificate • Emirates ID application • Medical Insurance or Health Card.

According to ICP, these are the fees for renewing your residence visa:

• Application Fees: Dh50 • Issuance fees: Dh100 • ICP service fees: Dh50

Step 4: Collect your renewed Emirates ID and passport copy

If your visa was issued in Dubai, once the visa application has been approved, you will receive your passport with the visa sticker on it. This will be delivered to you through the approved courier company.

Your Emirates ID, too, will be delivered to an Emirates Post Office branch, from where you will need to collect it.

As the holiday season kicks in, agencies have started offering packages for tourists to travel and renew their visa at the same time.

Travel agencies are offering packages with countries that offer visas-on-arrival and e-visas to several nationalities. “We have selected these countries for their affordability and easy access without consuming much of the time in travelling,” said Libin Varghese, director of sales, Rooh Travel and Tourism.

The countries are:

“The package price for Georgia and Azerbaijan start at Dh2,023, excluding visa renewal. If one wants to renew their visas, an extra charge of Dh600 is applicable,” said Varghese.

Countries like Armenia, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, and Thailand are priced at Dh1,800 to Dh2,000 without renewal of the UAE visa. “With UAE visa renewal, the price can increase to Dh3,000,” said Varghese.

The packages aren’t offered to every nationality, he said, interested people must check with with the travel agent.

The package includes air tickets, accommodation, tours and sightseeing, activities, an inbound country visa, and more, with the departures scheduled on December 30.

Experts say that island nations like Seychelles, Maldives, and Mauritius are in great demand for New Year, but the renewal of visas may cost extra. “The airfare is quite high to Seychelles and other island nations. Also, the accommodation price range is on the higher side,” said Varghese.

Shubeesh U, sales manager, Tours on Board Pvt Ltd said: "Many residents have brought parents, siblings, and other family members on two-month visit visas in order to experience and enjoy the winter in Dubai. For those wishing to extend their stay, we have introduced packages starting from Dh3,000 that allow them to travel as well as extend their visas.

"We are also seeing a trend of people travelling to Dubai from UK and Canada to avoid the harsh winters in their countries. Since the option for extending visas within the country has been withdrawn, these tourists prefer flying to destinations like Maldives and Seychelles, which allow them to extend their visas before taking return flights to the UAE," added Shubeesh.

The new rules came into effect on Tuesday, December 13, when the option for visit visa holders in the UAE to extend their visas from within the country was discontinued. As of now, visitors must exit the country once their visa validity expires.

Mir Wasim Raja, manager of MICE & Holidays at Galadari International Travel Services, said bookings for New Year holidays are full, and people looking for travel and visa changes can be attended to by them.

"We can make a customised package if people would like to travel during the upcoming holidays, starting at Dh2,899," said Raja.

"For visa renewal, there are many destination options. However, it will cost an extra Dh600 for the package," he added.

Renewing your residence visa

Your sponsor must renew your residence visa before it expires. A renewed visa will let you continue living legally in the UAE without incurring fines or facing legal consequences for the same. UAE residents are granted longer flexible grace periods that reach up to 6 months (according to resident cateogry) to stay in the country after the residence permit is cancelled or expired.

The ICP has standardised the overstaying fines in the UAE. According to the new rules, visit, tourist and residence visa overstaying fees have standardised at AED 50 per day. Those overstaying on a residency visa will have to pay AED 50 each day (AED 50 per day instead of AED 25).

Remember that when the visa expires, your Emirates ID card issued by the ICP also expires.

If there is a need to renew your residence visa a few months earlier (one to six months) for travelling reasons, you must first take special permission and approval from ICP.
