Schedules & Results

As the largest youth soccer tournament in Florida and one of the biggest in the United States, The Weston Cup & Showcase is Florida’s premier Presidents’ Day Weekend Tournament for boys & girls teams. In 2023, the Weston Cup & Showcase had 1,000+ teams from throughout Florida, multiple states, and internationally that competed nine facilities which included over 40 playing fields in Weston, Davie, Coral Springs and Naples.   Weston Cup & Showcase has been recognized as one of the top-15 youth tournaments in the United States, click here for details .

The tournament will offer five levels of competition: MLS Next, Showcase, Gold, Silver, and Bronze for U9 through U19 boys & girls teams. For 2023 we are again expecting roughly 900+ teams from throughout Florida, out-of-state and internationally. The Weston Cup & Showcase is sanctioned by Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) & US Soccer.

February 17-19, 2024

WHEN:  Competition will begin on Saturday, February 17 and the tournament concludes with Finals on Monday, February 19. It is possible that teams may begin play on Friday evening, February 16. Teams from out of the area who wish to play on Friday, in an effort to spread out their games, may also be able to do so, but no guarantees can be made to accommodate such requests. WHERE:   The Weston Cup & Showcase is played in the Broward & Collier Counties in Weston, Plantation, Coral Springs, Davie & Naples, Florida.  Specific age groups will be assigned and play at respective facilities/fields throughout the weekend.   Click here for Divisions/Flights play locations.

LEVELS OF PLAY:

The MLS NEXT flights are by invitation only and is for MLS Next clubs.  U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 & U19 divisions will be offered.  Teams will play three games over 4 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday).  Round robin play with Champions determined by overall points.  Any questions, please contact Luis Mendoza at [email protected] or Bill Fisher at [email protected] .

U15, U16, U17 & U19 Age Group Brackets: Highest level of competition. Teams that compete regionally and nationally. Top Division I teams (National and Regional level teams) from across Florida, out-of-state, and international teams are expected to participate. The showcase divisions will be played in tournament format with group and playoffs/finals. Several college coaches and scouts will be at the Weston Cup to observe players participating in the Showcase Division.

High lever Division I teams from across Florida and out-of-state teams are expected to participate making this a highly competitive event at the GOLD Divisions.

Silver Division is for competitive Division 1 and Division 2 travel teams. Teams from Florida and out-of-state are expected to participate in the SILVER Divisions.

Bronze Division is primarily for recreational teams and new travel teams seeking comparative competition.

U13 (U12 11v11)

The U13 (U12 11v11) division is designed for true U12 teams looking to prepare for 11v11 play.  Depending on the number of teams may have 1-2 flights.

U11 (U10 9v9)

The U11 (U10 9v9) division is set-up for U10 teams only looking to transition from 7v7 play to 9v9 play.  Depending on the number teams, may have 1-3 flights (Gold and Silver).

U9 FUTURE STARS

The U9 Future Stars division is set-up for U8 teams only. Note that the U9 Future Stars will play under the U9 rules

REGISTRATION:

The Weston Cup & Showcase is a GotSport tournament and teams will be eligible for tournament points based on performance. Teams may pay by credit card online via GotSport.

Teams/clubs wishing to pay by check should make their check payable to Weston FC and indicate which team (registration number) the check is for and mail it to:

Any teams registering after the deadline will be placed on an active waiting list depending on availability based on the size of the divisions and flights.

TOURNAMENT INFO:

Medical staff, guest players.

• $800.00 for U9 & U10 (playing 7 v 7)
• $825.00 for U11 & U12 (playing 9 v 9)
• $925.00 for U13 & U14
• $1,000.00 for U15 & older

Referee fees are included in the tournament registration fee.  Entry fees received after the Tuesday, January 9, 2024 deadline date may incur an additional $50.00 late fee .  Note, teams playing in Naples (Collier County) incur a $150.00 team fee which is a Collier County fee for facility entry & parking.

In partnership with [U18] Sports Medicine, Athletic Trainers will be onsite at all facilities.

• Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 3 games.
• Referee fees are included in the registration fee.
• U8 and U10 teams play 7-a-side and may carry up to 12 players.
• U11 and U12 teams play 9-a-side and may carry up to 16 players.
• U13 to U19 teams play 11-aside and may carry up to 22 players on their roster but only 18 players can play in any given game.
• U9 – U10 age group teams will play 7v7 and roster size cannot exceed 12 players (4 guest players).
• U11 – U12 age group teams will play 9v9 and roster size cannot exceed 16 players (5 guest players).
• U13 age group teams will play 11v11 and roster size cannot exceed 22 players (6 guest players).
• All 14U and older age groups will play 11v11 and be limited to a 22 player roster size from which the gameday roster for a given game may not exceed 18 players.

Jean M. Cray OBITUARY

Jean M Cray, 99, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Weston, Florida. She was born on May 15, 1923 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. She is survived by her daughter Pat Cray, of Weston, Florida along with her son-in-law, James E. Rohr. She fondly called him her favorite son-in-law. Jean was preceded in her death by her husband of 56 years James R Cray “Bob Cray”; her parents, Marvin W Lewis and Grace Louise Lewis (Mann); her brothers, Chester and Stanley; and her sister, Dorothy. Jean was an avid golfer! If she could, she’d play golf every day of the year! Most of her adult life was spent working with her husband running Cray’s Travel Service in Waukegan, Illinois. She also loved to travel and took full advantage of the Travel Agent FAM trips, traveling all over the world. Jean and “Bob” settled in Florida for their retirement in 1987. Jean was happy every day of her life! In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Jean’s name at https://www.legacy.com/trees/ . A brief memorial graveside will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL, 60030. 3 Oversold S&P 500 Stocks Down at Least 15% to Buy in June

The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 fell again on Thursday, driven lower by huge pullbacks across software stocks, spurred by Salesforce's 20% selloff.

The market needed a cooldown and Wall Street decided it was time to take profits ahead of the release of the Fed's preferred inflation gauge on Friday morning. The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 are still riding high heading into June.

There could be more near-term profit-taking, with plenty of large-cap stocks up well over 30% YTD. Investors should start focusing on taking advantage of any moves down to key moving averages such as the 21-day or 50-day.

Wall Street is also likely starting to look for deals as investors take some AI-focused winnings off the table and look to put money to work in beaten-down areas that offer near-term and long-term upside.

Today's episode of Full Court Finance digs into a few reasons behind the recent market dip to close out May. We then explore three oversold S&P 500 stocks that are down at least 15% in 2024 that investors might want to buy right now.

Dollar Tree, Inc.

The ultra-discount retailer has been hit hard as inflation-squeezed lower-income consumers pull back on spending. Dollar Tree said earlier this year that it would close around 600 unprofitable Family Dollar stores in the first half of FY24 and close 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores over the next several years at the end of each store's current lease term.

DLTR is also being hit by theft, lower SNAP benefits, higher gas spending, student-debt repayments restarting, and other headwinds. Dollar Tree stock is down 20% YTD and trading 35% below its peaks because of the changing consumer environment's impact on its earnings outlook.

Dollar Tree has already been punished for its downward EPS revisions, which appear to be leveling off recently. DLTR is still expected to grow its adjusted earnings by 17% in FY24 and 18% next year on 2.5% and 6%, respective revenue expansion.

Dollar Tree shares have soared 1,100% in the past 20 years to blow away Walmart's 250% and Dollar General's 450%. DLTR appears to be finding support near its 50-month moving average—a level it hasn't traded below for long over the past two decades.

DLTR is sitting at historically oversold RSI levels. Valuation wise, Dollar Tree is trading 34% below its highs and 15% below its median at 15.6X forward earnings.

Dollar Tree reports its first quarter results on Wednesday, June 5.

McDonald's

The burger giant, like Dollar Tree, is getting stung by slowing spending from lower-income consumers. McDonald's also said in its Q1 release that the "continued impact of the war in the Middle East more than offset positive comparable sales in Japan, Latin America and Europe." McDonald's is now laser focused on rolling out deals to attract consumers this summer.

McDonald's is still projected to grow its global comparable sales by 2.3% in 2024. This marks a slowdown from three straight years of booming comps expansion, including a 9% surge last year.

MCD is projected to grow its revenue by over 4% in 2024 and 6% next year to boost adjusted earnings by 2% and 8%, respectively. This bottom-line growth follows 18% adjusted EPS expansion last year. Despite its recent downward EPS revision, MCD's consensus estimates for 2024 and 2025 remain above where they were this time last year.

McDonald's has slipped 15% YTD and it trades 27% below its average Zacks price target. The fast-food powerhouse appears to be finding support at its 50-month moving average, a level it hasn't fallen below during the last 20 years.

MCD is historically oversold and trading at its lowest forward earnings multiple during the last five years outside of the Covid selloff. McDonald's is also an S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrat that's yielding 2.7% right now.

Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc.

Lamb Weston's frozen potatoes business is boring but booming. Yet the stock has tanked 21% YTD after it missed our Q3 2024 EPS estimates and slashed its guidance as it faces setbacks amid its transitions to a new planning system.

"The enterprise resource planning (ERP) transition temporarily reduced the visibility of finished goods inventories located at distribution centers, which affected our ability to fill customer orders... While we are disappointed with the magnitude of the ERP transition's effect on the quarter," CEO Tom Werner said in its quarterly release.

Lamb Weston believes the impact is in the rearview as its "order fulfillment rates have normalized." The company's earnings outlook has fallen recently, but its outlook for FY24 and FY25 remain solidly above where they were this time last year. LW is projected to grow its sales by 23% in FY24 and add another 3% next year to boost its bottom line by 18% and 12%, respectively.

Lamb Weston is down 21% YTD and trades 31% below its average Zacks price target. LW is still up 45% in the last five years to blow away the Zacks Consumer Staples sector's sideways run.

LW found support at its 200-week moving average. Plus it trades at a 56% discount to its highs and near its all-time Covid lows at 13.8X forward earnings. Lamb Weston also pays a dividend that yields 1.7%.

15 men brought to military enlistment office after mass brawl in Moscow Oblast

Local security forces brought 15 men to a military enlistment office after a mass brawl at a warehouse of the Russian Wildberries company in Elektrostal, Moscow Oblast on Feb. 8, Russian Telegram channel Shot reported .

29 people were also taken to police stations. Among the arrested were citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

A mass brawl involving over 100 employees and security personnel broke out at the Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal on Dec. 8.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

LONDON (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets are enjoying London so much they might not want to go home.

Can you blame them? There’s business ahead with a two-game set this weekend , but Friday’s workout at London Stadium was a laid-back affair following team dinners the night before.

“It was really nice to have a proper pint of Guinness,” Mets first baseman Pete Alonso said.

A group of Phillies visited the Tower of London for an event before heading to a Philly-themed bar . Phillies manager Rob Thomson estimated the crowd at 500 fans.

Bryce Harper hit a market and sampled food from various vendors. The best part? No one recognized him.

“I’ve actually enjoyed people not really realizing who I am,” the slugger said. “The coolest thing I’ve seen in London yet is, I’ve driven by and I’ve seen people outside the pub drinking and having conversation — with no phones or anything like that. ... I think everybody can learn from that.”

The Phillie Phanatic made the trip and showed no signs of jet lag in firing up some school children who watched the workouts from the stands behind the first-base dugout. The Phillies shared video of him walking near Buckingham Palace dressed like a member of the King’s Guard .

Jake Diekman and fellow Mets relief pitchers ran routes and tossed an American football to each other in the outfield under two huge flags — the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes — high above center field at London Stadium, the reconfigured home of Premier League club West Ham.

This is MLB’s third visit to London in the past five seasons. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in 2019 played the league’s debut game in Europe and the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs split a two-game set last June.

A couple of fans holding a UK Red Sox Supporters Club flag high-fived each other after J.D. Martinez looked up and acknowledged them. Martinez helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series.

Besides sampling a Guinness, Alonso solicited advice from local reporters on where to get the best Sunday roast.

“Sunday we’re leaving unfortunately. I know Sunday roasts are a thing,” he said. “Are they served specifically on Sundays at places or can you get this at any time?”

Pretty much anytime was the answer plus “have as much gravy as possible.”

It wasn’t all laughs, though. Thomson said he “absolutely” is concerned about all travel the NL East-leading Phillies (44-19) have been doing. The Phillies left May 23 for a road trip that included stops in Denver and San Francisco.

“We’re crossing 18 time zones since Colorado ‘til we get to Boston,” Thomson said. “That can put a lot of stress on your body, for a player, so we’re concerned about it. Everything we can do we’re trying to get it done so that they dont get hurt.”

Former West Ham players Anton Ferdinand and James Collins had an extended chat with Alonso before the first baseman took batting practice. Alonso signed a West Ham jersey and a couple of baseballs for the pair. ... Matthew Broderick will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday. Wrexham co-owner and Phillies fan Rob McElhenney gets the ball Sunday.

Harper reiterated his desire to play at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and said the NHL-style break in schedule for the Winter Olympics could apply to baseball. “They take that three-week break, and they let those guys go out and play. That’s another big goal that we should have as Major League Baseball,” he said. Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has said such a plan would be difficult for MLB to implement .

Phillies: LHP Ranger Suárez (9-1, 1.70 ERA) is set to start Saturday. Suárez took a comebacker off his pitching hand in his last start. ... C Rafael Marchan will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take the 27th spot this weekend “basically because J.T. (Realmuto) has been dinged up,” Thomson said.

Mets: LHP Sean Manaea (3-2, 3.63 ERA) will start Saturday. ... 3B Brett Baty will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to be the 27th man for the weekend. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said: “We have a decision to make after Sunday.”

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
