Here are some *hopefully* helpful tips from yours truly to keep in mind while planning your wine-tasting trip from Seattle.

• ⏰ Book as soon as you can: While I’m also one to procrastinate, I recommend booking or at least reserving a ✨ refundabl e tour ✨ you’re interested. These tours fill up fast, and if your travel dates don’t work out or something comes up, you can cancel 24 before the tour and get a refund!
• 📝 Write down your requests: If you have any dietary restrictions or want to tour a specific winery, make sure to write that down as you make your reservation! Most tour guides will do their best to accommodate you!
• 🥾 Wear Closed-Toed Shoes: Between the fickle weather and the possibility of walking on uneven ground (guaranteed if you’re visiting Snoqualmie Falls), be sure to wear comfortable, close-toed shoes! No one wants to start the day with a fall!

• ☔️ Dress for rain or shine! As mentioned above, the weather can change on a dime, I recommend bringing sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, a light rain jacket (at least), and maybe a good travel-sized umbrella !

It’s no secret that Seattle isn’t the cheapest or most budget-friendly destination to visit. And after looking at some of the tours, you may be thinking, “Holy crap, some of these tours are expensive! I can’t afford this!” Unfortunately, some of the wine-tasting experiences may indeed be out of your budget. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t do an independent wine-tasting tour around Seattle! Below, I’ll detail two ways I would recommend going about this.

Wine Tasting With a Rental Car

The first option is to rent a car . Public transportation from the city to the wineries in Woodinville is limited, making a car the most convenient mode of transport. I recommend doing this with Discover Cars as that’s what I’ve had positive experiences with and they offer convenient pick-up options from Sea-Tac Airport. With your rental car, you can do a tour of the Woodinville wineries! Seriously, there are an abundance of wineries to choose from, so you’re sure to find someone that suits your palate!

And a lesser-known secret for saving money is to purchase a Passport to Woodinville Wine Country ! Essentially, it’s a virtual pass that grants you access to tailored tours and discounted tastings across the wine country. The passes are instantly delivered via text message or email. Once you purchase your pass, you just need to check the operating hours of the various tasting rooms for participating wineries (subject to change) and show up during those hours. Then, you show the staff your pass, and you’ll be good to go! This is a budget-friendly option and great if you’re traveling with a small group of 4-5 people since you can split gas and rental expenses ! Plus, it gives you the flexibility to linger at the wineries that catch your interest and explore at your own pace!

Wine Tasting Without a Rental Car

Now, let’s say you can’t get a rental car or simply don’t want to go through the rental process. Another option is to do a little wine tour within Seattle itself… This isn’t ideal since you won’t get to roam around the vineyards that exist outside the metropolitan area. But, there are a couple of cellars and tasting rooms available that are close enough to the downtown area, which is nothing to turn up your nose to. You can find these tasting rooms around SODO, which is about 10 minutes South of downtown Seattle.

Specific places I recommend checking out are Rotie Cellars and Latta Wines ! These are both pretty highly rated and you’ll find a wide array of wines offered there. Also, if you purchase a bottle from Rotie Cellars, they’ll give you a tasting for free, which is always welcomed :’). Another spot to check out in the area is Slight of Hand Cellars . It’s newer and has a fun ambiance that mixes wine and music. Just beware, the wine-tasting experience is on the pricier side, but I’ve heard that most people say it’s worth it!

Easily one of the best day trips from Seattle, you’ll get to have a little outdoor adventure with the Snoqualmie Falls and Wineries Tour from Seattle !

We loved how flexible the itinerary was, as the guide took our interests into account with going to the places that interested us most. If you’re interested in an experience that’s never rushed or too cookie-cutter, you’re in for a real treat with this one.

You’ll be first picked up at your hotel at 9:30 am by luxury vehicle, then travel over the impressive Lacey V. Murorw Memorial Bridge, passing the pretty Mercer Island on the way to Snoqualmie.

Once you get to the falls, you’ll have about an hour to learn about them, take in the views at the upper observation deck, go for a quick hike, or check out the lower observation deck below.

After stretching those legs, you’ll head back to the vehicle and head on over to Woodinville, where some of the best wineries in the world call home.

The length of your tour will depend on how many wineries and whether or not you visit Snoqualmie Falls. Most tours are between 4 to 6 hours and you will do tastings at 2 to 4 wineries.

What types of wine will I be tasting?

Chardonnay : This is a white wine made is one of the most popular wines made in Washington state. Chardonnay ranges from crisp and refreshing to rich and buttery. Wineries that make Chardonnay in Woodinville are Chateau Ste Michelle, Novelty Hill Januik, and Kerloo Cellars.

Most of the tours have room for some flexibility, so but it’s likely you will stop at one or more of these:

• Chateau Ste. Michelle : Ste. Michelle has been known to be at the top of its game since its inception, producing class wines for any price point. You really aren’t going to be able to get a high-quality bottle of wine like theirs for under $15 anywhere else. Their Dry Riesling is world-class, and one of those best bang for your buck wines if you’re trying to impress a date or use for a nice dinner.
• DeLille Cellars: DeLille has a beautiful new tasting room and patio are incredible for the summer and autumn seasons, where you can see the natural beauty just outside. Their Chaleur Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, and we swear it’s tastier every time we try it. Their Lounge restaurant has a full-food menu, which tons of delicious options, too.
• Gorman : You can literally play guitar here, which would be enough for me. However, their delicious Red Mountain reds and full-bodied Chardonnays are another attraction worth staying for.
• Betz Family : They’ve now spent over 30 years perfecting their high-end Bordeaux and Rhône-style wines that make you feel like you’ve just been transported to Europe. Their Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 different Syrahs are maginficent.
• Matthews Winery : Matthews is one of the oldest and most well-respected wineries in Woodinville, and is famously “inspired by Bordeaux”. Try both their Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc!
• Two Vintners : This is yet another producer of great Rhône-style wine, although we love their classic Columbia Valley Syrah, as well.

Tips for Visiting Snoqualmie Falls

Since most of the winery tours also visit the falls because it is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state.

Bring Some Gear –  Cameras, rain jackets/ponchos, comfortable shoes for walking and hiking, and a hat are never a bad idea.

Observation Decks –  There are 2 main observation decks: an upper and a lower. The lower observation deck is a great up-close way to see the falls, and you can take a brief trail up to the upper deck if you feel like. In the summertime, there’s usually more water on the bottom, but in the winter it seems almost dry.

Gift Shop –  The gift shop is so much more than just some “ Snoqualmie Falls ” hats and t-shirts. Their Country Store is here, which sells some incredible homemade mixes, jams, honeys, and spreads (try them all!).

Wine tours in the Seattle area are easy to come by thanks to Washington state being the second largest producer of wine in the United States behind California. Our varied microclimates and rich glacial soil makes it the perfect conditions for producing a variety of wines. Whether you like bold reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, spicy reds like Syrah, or refreshing whites like Chardonnay and Reisling, there’s something for you.

Considering there are about 1,000 wineries in the state, it can be overwhelming to navigate which to visit. Luckily wine tours have sprung up near Seattle to help with that. Essentially they take a small group to 2-4 different wineries around the Seattle area for a day of wine tasting.

Snoqualmie Falls & Seattle Winery Tour

This all day wine tour near Seattle is the perfect option if you want to fit in things besides wine tasting. You’ll be picked up from your Sea-Tac Airport or Seattle hotel between 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM so you can depart for Snoqualmie Falls at 10:30 AM.

You’ll drive from Seattle through the Cascade Mountains to the majestic 268-foot tall falls for photo opps before heading toward Woodinville, a wine destination about 30 minutes east of Seattle. On your way you’ll stop at Boehms Candies, a candy factory built like a Swiss chalet with pretty grounds. After you shop to your heart’s content, you’ll head to the wineries.

Once in Woodinville wine country your first stop will be at award-winning wine behemoth Chateau Ste. Michelle. They produce millions of bottles of wines per year and own multiple sub winery brands, so they know what they’re doing. Here you’ll enjoy excellent wines on the most beautiful grounds. They also sell food items perfect for a picnic.

Next you’ll head to a secret smaller winery. You’ll taste here before heading back to your pickup point in Seattle.

What’s not included: Tasting fees at the wineries, pick up from the cruise terminal, lunch, or gratuity. This tour is also not wheelchair accessible and may be canceled if there’s inclement weather.

Bon Vivant Woodinville Wine Tasting Tour

They’ll chat with your group about their wine preferences and take you to wineries that fit what the group tour is looking for based on their insider knowledge.

The itinerary will start at a a flagship winery before heading to a boutique winery. Next you’ll get lunch at a local cafe before heading to 2-3 more wineries, depending on how quickly the group moves. If you’d like to learn more about wine and geek out with local wine lovers, this is probably one of the best wine tours in the Seattle area for you!

What’s not included: Winery tasting fees or lunch. This tour is also not wheelchair accessible.

Hike Mt. Rainier & Taste Yakima Valley Wine

If you’re hoping to squeeze in a day trip to Mount Rainier from Seattle , this is the full day wine tour for you. You’ll get picked up from your downtown Seattle location at 7:30 AM to make the approximately 2.5 hour drive in an air conditioned bus to Mount Rainier National Park. Since this wine tasting tour only allows a maximum of 10 guests, you can get to know your fellow wine tasters or sit back and nap until you arrive.

Once at the park you’ll take an easy 3-mile hike with a naturalist guide. They’ll point out plants and animals, and you may even get to nibble on some berries! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and wear sunscreen and layers. It may be cold while exploring the best hikes at Mt. Rainier National Park !

After your hike you’ll head Washington Wine Country where you’ll find rows upon rows of vineyards and get to experience where Washington grapes are grown. Your first stop will be at Wilridge Vineyard, Winery & Distillery for a tasting. Lunch and all tasting fees are included in the price. So you don’t have to think about anything except which bottles you want to take home. After Wildridge you’ll go to Owen Roe Winery for another tasting. Then on your way home you’ll stop at Lake Keechelus Trailhead to stretch your legs before being dropped off at your pickup point.

What’s not included: Gratuities. This is also a 21 years old and over activity and is not wheelchair accessible.

Bainbridge Island Winery Tour & Dinner

Bainbridge Island wineries are some of my favorites. Plus, the island makes for an epic day trip from Seattle, so this day tour is just perfect. You’ll meet your group in downtown Bainbridge and visit 3-4 boutique wineries. You’ll meet the winemakers and may even get a chance to try wine from the barrel!

During your wine tasting excursion you’ll be treated to a gourmet dinner included in the price of your winery tour. You’ll also get to take home a souvenir wine glass to remember all the memories you made trying the interesting grapes grown on the island that you won’t find anywhere else!

What’s not included: Transportation from Seattle. You must take the ferry yourself to Bainbridge Island, but it’s easy. The ferry departs from downtown Seattle and only takes 35 minutes. You can walk to the wine tour departure point from the ferry. I outline everything you need to know about the ferry in my guide to spending one day on Bainbridge Island .

Also note this wine tasting tour is not wheelchair accessible. It’s also non-refundable, so make sure you can attend before you book!

Seattle Wine and Chocolate Experience

You’ll stop at Browne Family Vineyards and Locus Wines, one of my favorite Seattle wineries . All wine tastes are included in your tour price. You’ll also get charcuterie from Salumi, a famous meat shop in Seattle, and small bites made by the chef co-owner at Locus Wines. If you want a more all-inclusive tasting experience, this is one of the best wine tours in the Seattle area for you.

Between stops you’ll visit Intrigue Chocolate Co., one of the best Seattle chocolate makers . Here you’ll get to learn how chocolate is made and how to taste chocolate like a professional.

While this specific winery tour doesn’t have any reviews on Viator where you can book, it’s run by Show Me Seattle, which hosts other tours around Seattle and is well reviewed on TripAdvisor with 4.5 stars out of 1,686 reviews at time of writing this.

• Hotel pickup: We pick up at most major hotels in Seattle and some in SeaTac. When booking, if your hotel is not listed, a general location closest to your hotel will be given.
• What’s Included: Professional guide, fully narrated tour and pickup and drop-off from select downtown Seattle and airport hotels.
• What’s Excluded: Meals and wine tasting fees are not provided but you will be given an opportunity to purchase them. Gratuity is not included but graciously accepted and appreciated.
• Additional Information: Guests wishing to participate in tastings must be 21 + years of age and bring the following identification: passport or a current U.S. driver's license or state identification with photo.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a jacket, as we go by the water and you may get chilly on overcast days. Chateau Ste Michelle Winery History

Chateau Ste Michelle Winery not only helped establish an industry-shifting foothold for wine producers in the Pacific Northwest, but became a travel destination in itself as it grew into a full-fledged estate and performance venue. Standing on a property about 20 miles outside of Seattle in Woodinville that dates back to 1912, Chateau Ste Michelle remains the oldest active winery in Washington. Though the beautifully landscaped grounds and French-style chateau give it a vintage feel, the winery has also embraced innovation in its focus for elite hospitality and entertainment.

In 1984, the owners of Chateau Ste Michelle Winery launched a run of small music shows as a sweetener for vino enthusiasts. First presented in the parking lot, the Summer Concert Series became an annual fixture that eventually called for its own amphitheater to be built on the estate. Over the years, the Summer Concert Series has shown the same sharp palette and deft curation skills as the vintners producing the wine, with legends such as Stevie Wonder , Bob Dylan and The B-52s gracing the stage as well as major contemporary artists like John Legend , Sarah McLachlan , Kelsea Ballerini and Jason Mraz .

In 2023, the venue hosted its largest stretch of shows in one season with 41 dates total, then celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024.

Get to Know Chateau Ste Michelle Winery

Concerts at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery take place at the outdoor amphitheater directly across from the main winery building. The distinctive French chateau, which was built in 1976 when the Woodinville location became the company headquarters, stands adjacent to the performance space to be admired on arrival by every passing concertgoer. In 1978, the Manor House and gardens were added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Providing sweeping views of the immaculate 118-acre estate, the amphitheater at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery is equally of its setting and otherworldly. Despite its close proximity to the Seattle metropolitan area, the venue is a stark change of scenery from the city. Pack a picnic for the massive lawn or reserve a spot on a walking tour or wine tasting experience to take in the full breadth of the winery’s offerings.

Seating and Viewing Options

The amphitheater at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery rests at the bottom of a gradual slope, so even the highest row gets a great view of the stage. Reserved seating runs along the flat base of the hill in front of the stage, while general admission lawn areas flank both sides of the seated section. Two reserved lawn seating sections follow behind. Chairs are provided for reserved seated and reserved lawn seating, but guests in general admission will need to bring or buy their own — with no seat higher than 12″ or top taller than 32″ unless in a designated “High Back Chair” section.

Meanwhile, VIP packages at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery provide access to reserved tables and cabanas behind and above the standard reserved and general admission areas as well as the private Peacock Lounge.

Venue Accessibility

Chateau Ste Michelle Winery offers tickets for ADA Reserved seating with one companion, though both reserved and general admission seating areas feature accessible routes through the amphitheater. ADA parking is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the north and south entrances of the venue, though pick-up and drop-off can be arranged if lots are at capacity. Any specific accommodations should be addressed ahead of the event via email or by phone at 425-488-1133.

The closest public transportation hub can be found at the Woodinville Park And Ride, which services the ST522 bus line, though commuters should verify the bus’ operating hours on the Sound Transit website . The venue is also reachable by bike via the Sammamish River Trail.

For drivers, parking at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery costs $40 for onsite spaces when available. Meanwhile, offsite parking nearby opens three hours before showtime and goes for $20. The designated overflow area is located at 15300 Redmond-Woodinville Road Northeast in Woodinville, Washington and includes a shuttle to and from the South Gate entrance. A parking pass can be purchased in advance with your concert ticket. Guests using rideshare will need to walk to the designated pickup spot on 145th Street while cars are still exiting the venue.

Entering from either the North or South Gate, fans can step into the amphitheater about two hours before the show starts. Each guest is permitted to bring one item or bag, one blanket and one chair when seated in the appropriate section. To promote plenty of picnicking, the bag policy at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery allows tote bags, small backpacks and hard or soft sided coolers no larger than 14″ x 14″ x 14″. Rain jackets and umbrellas are also encouraged due to the chateau’s rain or shine performance policy. Notably, glass containers are prohibited from the amphitheater space unless they are still-sealed bottles of wine purchased on the premises. Though most performances are open to fans all ages, the age restrictions for concerts at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery vary by event. Tickets are required for any child three years or older, while children two years or younger can access the general admission area with a ticketed adult for free.

Aside from the Chateau Picnic experience or shareable and large plates served in the venue’s Tasting Room , guests can find a number of food options inside the amphitheater, including local vendors like Bar Dojo , Isidro’s and Nutty Squirrel Gelato . All alcoholic beverages consumed on the grounds must be purchased at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery, though the venue also sells an assortment of beer from local breweries. Fittingly, the winery introduced a set of concert-inspired wines to pair nicely with a night of live music.
