The 3 Holy Mosques Tour – Masjid Al Haram, Masjid Al-Nabawi, Masjid Al Aqsa

3-holy-mosques-tour

The 3 holy mosques tour is a tour to the three holiest mosques of the world, which are – Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah, Masjid Al-Nabawi in Madinah and Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem . As per Islamic teachings, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explained that the journey to these three mosques is the only one that Muslims must prepare for. Considered as the most sacred sites on Earth, the three mosques hold immeasurable significance in the history and culture of Islam. One can make plans for this tour while deciding to perform Umrah.

3 Holy Mosques Tour Significance

There are numerous holy sites that Muslims can visit and see. Especially the ones written in the holy Qur’an are of massive significance to devout Muslims. The 3 holy mosques tour covers the three most important of these places. Islamic traditions and verses in the holy book of the Qur’an reflect the significance of these mosques.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Do not prepare yourself for a journey except to three Mosques i.e. The Great Mosque of Makkah, the Mosque of Aqsa and My Mosque.” – (Bukhari 20:2)

The 3 Holiest Mosques

1. masjid al-ḥarām – the first site of the 3 mosques holy tour.

great-mosque-makkah-haram

Masjid al-Ḥarām is also known as the Great Mosque of Makkah. The name literally means ‘The Sacred Mosque’. For Muslims, it is one of the holiest places to visit and is credited as the world’s largest mosque. During the pilgrimage of Umrah and Hajj , millions of pilgrims gather in this mosque to pray at the holy Kaaba and attain salvation.

As per Islamic belief, the Great Mosque of Makkah was the creation of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) along with his son Ismail or Ishmael. Under the orders of Allah, they built both the Kabba and the Mosque. The revered Black Stone is located on the holy Kaaba’s eastern corner. Muslims believe that is the only remaining part of the actual structure built by Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH). Islamic teachings mention that the holy well of Zamzam is a miraculous well. It is believed to have never dried since it was discovered.

Presently, the Great Mosque of Makkah stands covering 356,800 square meters. It includes both indoor and outdoor praying areas. It is one of the most important sites in the 3 holy mosques tour.

2. Al-Masjid an-Nabawi – The second mosque of the 3 mosques holy tour

al-nabawi-aerial-view

Situated in Madina, the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is also known as the Mosque of the Prophet. It is the second-largest and the second holiest mosque in the world. It is the third mosque built in the history of Islam and now serves as the final resting place of Allah’s peaceful messenger, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The foundation of the original mosque was laid down by the Prophet (PBUH) himself. It was adjacent to the house where he lived after his migration to the holy city of Madinah in 622 AD. At that time, it was an open air structure that had an elevated dais for the Quran reading sessions. The mosque acted as a religious educational institution, court, and community center.

Apart from the tomb of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Mosque also houses the final resting place for the Rashidun caliphs, Umar and Abu Bakr. The southeast corner of the mosque has special importance. The Green Dome, which was actually the house of Bibi Aisha, now serves as the tomb area of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

3. Al-Aqsa – The final site of the 3 mosques holy tour

al-aqsa-mosque-jerusalem

Situated in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque is also known as the Temple Mount. The place is not only sacred for Muslims but for Jews and Christians too. As per Islamic teachings, Al-Aqsa is the second mosque built right after the Masjid al-Ḥarām located in Makkah. Al-Haram Al-Sharif, also referred to as the Noble Sanctuary, is a 3-acre compound area that houses the Al-Aqsa. Here, pilgrims also pay homage at the Dome of the Rock. As per Islamic traditions, this is the structure where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is believed to have stepped into Heaven. It is also a source of major conflict between Israel and Palestine.

A Muslim-friendly guide to Moscow, Russia

In Travel Guide by Dina Dzhunskalieva May 2, 2020

A Muslim-friendly guide to Moscow

Moscow, the capital of Russia and home to an estimated 12 million people, may not be the obvious Muslim-friendly destination. However, the Muslim community in Russia grows year by year – various estimates place the current Muslim population in Russia at between 14 million and 20 million people. With this growth in the local Muslim population, the Russian capital is becoming increasingly Muslim-friendly. The proof? A rising number of Muslim-friendly cafes and restaurants, prayer facilities and festive Muslim events.

Of course, no visit to Moscow is complete without a visit to the Kremlin, Red Square and St.Basil’s Cathedral. But how Muslim-friendly is Russia’s capital?

Here’s your Muslim-friendly guide to visiting this incredible city by local moskvichka , Dina Dzhunskalieva.

Muslim-friendly experiences in Moscow

1. pray in one of the biggest mosques in europe.

The streets surrounding Moscow Cathedral Mosque fill with worshippers during Eid, despite the mosque’s 10 000 person capacity. Photo: AFP

The origins of Moscow Cathedral Mosque can be traced to 1904, but it was demolished and completely reconstructed in 2015. During the period of the Soviet Union, Moscow Cathedral Mosque was the only one in the city that remained open for Muslims to worship in. In September 2015 President Putin himself presided over the mosque’s inauguration ceremony, together with President Erdogan (Turkey) and President Mahmoud Abbas (Palestinian Authority). The impressive architecture features 72m-high minarets and a central dome decorated with no less than 12 kg of gold leaf, which looks especially beautiful on a sunny day, shining in all of its glory.  The new mosque can hold an estimated 10 000 worshippers, which is much needed in Moscow. During major celebrations such as Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha, it’s estimated that 100 000 Muslims gather outside the central mosque alone, filling the streets with worshippers offerring their Eid prayers.

Top Tip: Do not miss the opportunity to visit the small museum at the mosque, which has a number of historical artefacts from the Muslim world!

2. Try delicious authentic cuisine from Central Asia and the Caucasus at halal eateries

Moscow is a hub for ethnicities from all over Russia and post-Soviet republics. Every ethnicity has its national cuisine and with seven of Russia’s 22 republics being Muslim-majority populations, there is a sumptuous variety of halal local food on offer.

There are more and more halal cafes and restaurants opening in Moscow, and here are my personal top 3 recommendations that any foodie should not miss:

  • “Chaihona Aiva”

An Uzbek restaurant with a great range of the main Central Asian dishes: plov, manty, samsa and more. Reasonable prices make this place even more attractive for tourists, as for locals.

Beautiful interiors compliment the hearty Uzbek cuisine at Chaihona Aiva. Photo: Chaihona Aiva/TripAdvisor

Great spot if you want to try Caucasus cuisine without going to the Caucasus region itself. Home style chudu (crispy puff pastry with various fillings), Dagestani hinkal (dough-like dish served with garlic sauce and meat) and many more to enjoy.

Crispy chudu parcels from Zhi Est. Photo: Zhi Est/TripAdvisor

Chinese cuisine, mainly represented by lamian – Lanzhou-style noodles. Tastes very close to Turkic laghman and very cheap, although the portions are huge. Also try the steamed bun and selection of various teas.

Lanzhou-style noodles and lagman. Photo: Lanzhou/TripAdvisor

2. Experience Ramadan in a tent

Ramadan tents have been a feature of Ramadan in Moscow since at least 2003. Photo: Caucasian Knot

The Ramadan tent in Moscow offers iftar dinners and festive Ramadan activities for locals and Muslims who live in the city. On average, it hosts more than 500 guests every night. The budget organization of Iftars and entertainment programme come from Muslims themselves, first of all from the republics and communities which hold thematic evenings during Ramadan.

3. Listen to the most beautiful Quran recitation

The Moscow international Quran competition has taken place annually since 2000. Photo: VoiceofglobalUmmah.blogspot

Every year in Moscow, competitors from around the world gather to take part in an annual international Qur’an recitation competition. This year is the 20th Moscow Quran Reciting Competition, which was scheduled for 19th of April but has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This competition sees representatives from a number of Muslim states including Iran, Turkey, Malaysia and Qatar as well as the Muslim-majority republics of Tatarstan, Dagestan and other regions.

1. Overview

The Abu Dhabi Mosque tour intends to give the first timers in the city an experience of the magnificent architecture of the mosque. It also gives an impressive understanding of the cultural and religious side of the UAE .

This interactive tour of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque takes 3 hours and it is usually under the guide of a certified historian. It is also one of the most sought after cultural experiences in the city by different visitors.

The tour usually takes place during the day, with the company of a guide, who takes you around the mosque and explains various aspects of the Islamic culture, its art, and the mosque’s architecture. This tour is of great importance to the UAE, and it is for this reason it is carried out by a certified UAE national historian guide.

The guide must be a citizen of UAE, born in Abu Dhabi and is usually certified by the ministry of culture and tourism.

During this tour, you will also learn about the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s vision and how his vision influenced the building of the mosque. You can also see the expert teams’ dedication and hard work from diverse parts of the world, including the 1300 craftsmen from Iran, who hand-knitted the world’s largest carpet for the main prayer hall.

Take a tour of the halls, which are marbled and admire the outstanding gems such as the gold-plated Swarovski chandeliers, the huge pools that reflects some of the many columns with amethyst and jasper embedded on them, and the large marble mosaic artwork in the courtyard.

After concluding the tour of the mosque, you can proceed to have a chat over coffee with your guide at the New Visitors Center and plaza at the Sheikh Zayed Grand mosque. During this relaxing moment you can ask any questions regarding the culture, attire, food, tradition or marriage customs of the UAE.

8. Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque Dress Code

The Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque holds pios place in the hearts of Muslims. Visitors need to abide by certain rules and show respect by adhering to all the instructions specified below.

Dress Code

Dress Code for Women at the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque

  • Your arms and legs have to be fully covered.
  • Your head and hair must be covered with a scarf or shawl.
  • Only the skin of your face, hands and feet can be visible.
  • If your dress doesn't adhere to the approved criteria (which is something most tourists face), you will be directed to the changing room, where you can hire an Abaya( a cloak-like dress to cover your body) and Shayla (a head-cloth). Consider this a cultural experience and embrace it.
  • This doesn't mean you can show up wearing revealing clothing, as you will have to line up with other Muslim tourists, and you must respect the country's customs and rules throughout your Abu Dhabi visit.

Dress code for men at the Abu Dhabi Grand Mosquee

  • Men are urged to wear long trousers with their legs fully covered and a long-sleeved shirt or t-shirt that is at least elbow length.
  • If you arrive at the premises wearing shorts, you will be directed to the changing room, where you can rent a Kandura (free of charge) for your visit.

Dress code for children at the Grand Mosque

  • There is no strict dress code in place for pre-pubescent children.
  • Children from early puberty and beyond, especially girls, are encouraged to follow the dress code for women when entering the Grand Mosque.

If you need to know more about why the dress code matters much while visiting the grand mosque in Abu Dhabi check out here .

9. Tips While Planning Abu Dhabi Mosque Tour

After a meal.

Because the Grand Mosque Tour involves a lot of walking, we schedule all of the tours after breakfast or lunch. We urge all our guests to have a meal before they arrive for the tour. Coffee and water are provided at the end of the tour. You can also purchase some snacks if you wish from Souq Al Jami, which is in the vicinity of the mosque.

There is no specific time as such. Any time that is convenient for you is a good time. But, it is better to choose a morning or late evening tour during summer because the afternoon heat is unbearable. If you are a photography enthusiast, the best time to visit is just before sunset or during the golden hour to guarantee some amazing photos of you and the mosque complex.

Bring sunglasses

Your sunglasses are undoubtedly something you wouldn't leave behind, considering UAE's strong sunlight. Make sure you do not forget them because the sunlight reflects off the white building, which can be blinding.

Prepare the question

This could be your first time interacting with a local Emirati, so you are free to brainstorm a list of questions that you can ask at the end of your tour during coffee time.

Is it free to visit Sheikh Zayed mosque?

  • Saturday to Thursday from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm (last admission is at 9.30 pm)

Check out two Istanbul Blue Mosque reviews we selected from Tripadvisor, which give you an idea of what to expect at this attraction.

Beautiful and humbling building

Went as part of a small tour, having been to Hagia Sofia first. Interesting to hear the history of this mosque and to see the beautiful decoration inside. There are so many stunning views of the Blue Mosque. It looks pink at night.

Ellieitalia, Tripadvisor

Number one place to visit

This was my favorite place we visited! The entire complex with the Blue Mosque and Sofia with all the grounds in between was dreamy. Try to go when you can hear the call to prayer. Hearing it from both Mosques bouncing off each other was very special.

CCT73, Tripadvisor

The Blue Mosque closes for prayer five times a day.

Even though the exact prayer timings vary depending on the season, visitors can plan according to the following schedule.

Fajr (Dawn): 6.30 am

Zuhr (Noon): 1.30 pm

Asr (Mid-afternoon): 4 pm

Maghrib (Sunset): 6.30 pm

Isha (Night): 8 pm

The Blue Mosque was constructed between 1609 and 1616, just before the death of its patron, Sultan Ahmed I, who was only 27 at the time.

The mosque was built to showcase the power of the Ottoman Empire, as well as to rival the nearby Hagia Sophia Mosque.

What makes the Sultan Ahmet Mosque impressive is that it was built during a time of decline, unlike the past, when grand mosques were constructed as symbols of prosperity and political might.

The Blue Mosque in Istanbul is also famous for having six minarets instead of the regular  two or four, which is speculated to be because the architect misunderstood the Sultan’s request for golden minarets as six minarets.

Hagia Sophia Tour and Experience Museum Tickets

While the Blue Mosque’s history dates back five hundred years, the Hagia Sophia is an architectural marvel in Istanbul, Turkey, built as a Christian basilica nearly 1500 years ago.

The Blue Mosque structure is constructed on the former Byzantium Palace of Emperors site, opposite the Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome of Constantinople.

The Hagia Sophia is in the heart of the Sultanahmet District, facing the Blue Mosque, and serves as a focal point for the Old City of Istanbul.

The interior walls of the Blue Mosque are covered by more than 20000 handmade İznik-style ceramic tiles. In addition, over 200 stained glass windows have beautiful designs to allow natural light into the mosque.

Hagia Sophia is a unique Byzantine structure, combining a longitudinal basilica and a centralized building, and features a massive 32-meter (105 ft) main dome supported on pendentives and two semi-domes.

It is mandatory that women wear loose-fitting clothes covering their arms, legs, shoulders, knees, and hair when visiting the mosque.

For men, it is advised to wear loose clothes that cover their legs and to avoid wearing singlets and vests. Shorts, sleeveless shirts, and short skirts are prohibited in the mosque.

Visitors can also borrow a scarf, skirt, or robe from the mosque free of charge. You can also buy these if required.

Here are some questions visitors usually ask before visiting the Blue Mosque Istanbul.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can we come with a coach where can the coach offload people.

There is a bus stop and layby immediately outside the mosque on Mill Road for dropping off and picking up passengers. Although we have a carpark, it is not tall enough to accommodate a coach and so coaches would need to drive to alternative parking areas whilst the tour takes place.

Is there parking? Can we use the carpark?

Free parking for up to 76 cars is available in the mosque underground car park on a first come, first served basis. If your tour is in the morning then generally spaces will be available.

What are the transport options for getting to and from the mosque?

The mosque has underground parking for cars and motorbikes (76 spaces), accessed via the ramp on Mill Road. There are disabled parking spaces and an electric charging point. However, where possible we encourage our visitors to arrive by bus, bike or on foot to reduce their carbon footprint. The bus stop is directly outside the mosque and bike racks are provided in the front and rear gardens and in the car park.

Can Tour Groups include children?

Children of all ages are welcome. However we do ask that they are supervised at all times.

What should we wear?/ What is the dress code?

Out of respect for this place of worship, adult visitors are requested to observe modest dress that covers their arms and legs. Women will be asked to cover their heads before entering the prayer hall, so please bring a scarf with you. All visitors will be asked to remove their shoes at the entrance. If visitors are unable to remove their shoes for any reason, shoe covers can be provided.

What will the tour include?

The tour will start in the Islamic garden through to the entrance hall and adjoining rooms. The ‘Wudu’ or ablution areas will be visited before guests are taken through to the main prayer hall and gallery.

How long does the tour take?

Tours generally last approximately 1 hour.

Can we meet the imam?

Sometimes Imam Sejad will be available however he is very busy with many commitments. If he is in the prayer hall then he will no doubt come and say hello.

How will it work with the male and female areas?

If your tour is in the morning then there won’t b e any worshippers in the mosque and so access to the male and female areas will be unrestricted. If at other times, it may be necessary to split male and female guests when visiting the ablution areas.

Can we take pictures/videos?

Yes however we ask that you do not take photos or videos of people praying.

There is someone in a wheelchair. Can the mosque accommodate this?

Yes. All of the mosque apart from a small gallery area is wheelchair accessible. There is also a lift from the basement car park which can be used.

Does the mosque have an area where the group can eat after the tour?

There is a cafeteria although this isn’t yet open. Should you wish, you can bring a packed lunch and eat it in the cafeteria or on the tables outside. There are also cafes nearby should you prefer to eat there.

Who will be our contact person?

We will let you know the name of your guide but you can always contact [email protected] should you need to let us know about any changes to your booking.

All about blue mosque guided tour.

Have you ever thought about turning the unique pages of Istanbul's history? Here is an Istanbul tale you should know. Once, there was a Sultan named Ahmed I, who was a devout man. Sultan Ahmed wanted to express his devotion to God, and he asked for a magnificent mosque that would be caught in the eye in every aspect of Istanbul. He dreamed about a mosque with a difference! So, the tale of the Blue Mosque of İstanbul has started.

The architect Sedefkar Mehmet Aga started to build this famous Blue Mosque in 1609 and completed the construction in 1616. He was one of the well-talented architects of the 17th-century Ottoman era and the pupil of the well-known architect Mimar Sinan. Sultan Ahmed’s wish for a mosque with glory, strength, and brilliance came true! The Blue Mosque has been at the center of Istanbul, surrounded by history, and visible from every corner of the city since then. blue mosque tour, the blue mosque in Turkey, blue mosque turkey, blue mosque opening hours, blue mosque visit, blue mosque tours, blue mosque location, blue mosque entrance fee, blue mosque hours, blue mosque visit, is the blue mosque open, blue mosque tours, the blue mosque istanbul turkey, blue mosque guided tour, blue mosque tourist hours, blue mosque opening times for visitors.

What is the thing that makes this famous mosque different from others? Being the first mosque of the Ottoman Empire, which has six minarets, Blue Mosque became a peerless architecture of the 17th-century Ottoman Empire and today’s Istanbul!

During the construction, the six minarets of the Blue Mosque started some controversy because it was the Kaaba, the holiest mosque of Mecca, having six minarets, and the Blue Mosque was considered to be challenging Kaaba. So, Sultan Ahmed sent constructors to Mecca to build the seventh minaret for Kaaba.

The “Blue” Mosque and Interior Design

The Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish) is called “blue” by Europeans since blue tiles surround its interior walls. Be ready to be dazzled when you step inside the Blue Mosque because the internal part is as charming as the exterior part! More than 20.000 handmade Iznik (Nicaea) ceramic tiles in the shape of 50 different tulip designs adorn the interior walls of the Blue Mosque; the paramount chandeliers lighting up the majestic building await you!

In the Blue Mosque, the regal red carpet covers all the space. Calligraphy with Qur’an verses will get your attention immediately. If you seek the best places to visit in Istanbul, the Blue Mosque offers you the most beautiful visual feast.

There are lots of exciting features that make this mosque so brilliant. Don’t worry about missing something out because your experienced Istanbul travel guide will be with you during your visit!

For many years, this majestic mosque has been welcoming and embracing anyone. The gates of the Blue Mosque are always open for prayers for those who would like to practice their religion.

With its all glory and magnificence, it stands at the city's heart; it draws all the attention of tourists and even locals! So it is one of the best places to visit in Istanbul. The mosque also welcomes travelers who desire to discover, and get familiar with Istanbul better by learning from its history! Get your Istanbul Tourist Pass today and discover the Blue Mosque now!

At The Heart of Istanbul: The Blue Mosque

It’s impossible to ignore the Blue Mosque even when you’re walking far away from it. Remember the tale that Istanbul has just told you! It can be said that it is one of the most realistic tales. We have proof: let’s say you are walking or sipping your Turkish coffee by the seaside of Karaköy: In one of the most popular places in Istanbul, the first gaze you may catch will be the Blue Mosque! You may even find your directions according to this famous mosque. It is a fact that when you say Istanbul, the Blue Mosque is the essential part reflecting the soul of this city.

It’s always said that Istanbul has a lot to offer and many things to discover. Have you ever looked at the best canvas painted by different nations, cultures, and religions? The very first and the best place to experience all of these is the Blue Mosque. One of the most significant Islamic architectures, the Blue Mosque stands at the top of Istanbul; gazing at the city just like a guardian that watches over Istanbul day and night!

Have you ever heard the rhythm of this city? Around the Blue Mosque, you may hear the songs of the pigeons and the sounds of prayer calls. You can come across people visiting here from all around the world. You are going to catch the panoramic view of Istanbul in the eye of the Blue Mosque!

The Blue Mosque is also close to other touristic attractions such as Hagia Sophia , Topkapı Palace , the Basilica Cistern , the Archeological Museums , and the Grand Bazaar . So, during your visit to the Blue Mosque, you come across other hidden treasures of the city which are only a few minutes on foot!

Did you know that the Byzantine structure to serve as a church, commissioned by Emperor Constantius in 360 A.D, the Hagia Sophia, and the 17th century’s Ottoman frame,  the Blue Mosque, are across from each other? They are literally 10 minutes apart on foot. It is a fantastic opportunity to see how the city preserves its history and embraces cultural differences!
