AC employees only see the total number of standbys and upgrades at checkin (I.e 24 hours) before departure.

AC doesn't identify who's Rev and Non-Rev. Hence we have to identify Non-Rev by name (first 3 letters of last name) on standby list, against Rev (also first 3 letters of last name) on upgrade list, and subtract. This can lead to mistakes.

Same baggage rules applies as per regular full-fare passengers. Refer to www.aircanada.com

Baggage Policy for Travel from China In order to support the Federal Government in it's efforts to reduce the risk of Federal Law violations due to the importation of counterfeit goods (i.e. 'knock-offs'), Air Canada will be introducing a maximum allowance of one, checked bag per person for non-revenue travel, when traveling on stand-by from China on Air Canada. Please note this represents the maximum allowance permitted, therefore it cannot be exceeded under any circumstances (this means that oversize/overweight pieces will not be accepted). The policy will come in effect on June 1, 2012, and will apply to all stand-by passengers boarding Air Canada flights in China.

Boeing 777-300 (77P) aircrafts -are required to limit their carry-on to one personal item, such as a purse or laptop case. Employees traveling with babies will be able to board the plane with two personal items (i.e. one purse, one diaper bag). Duty Free purchases are not exception and must fit inside your personal item.

Air Canada Rouge - YYZ-KIN-YYZ - One carry on item and one checked bag permitted on this flights only per passenger.

Employee travel dress code A

clean, neat and professional appearance reinforces our brand and our world-class products and services.

How we present ourselves is as important and distinctive as our logo and signals to our customers that we strive to be the very best at what we do.

In the spirit of modernizing our employee dress code policy, we want to empower our employees to dress with care, class and common sense when travelling with Air Canada.

This policy is applicable to all employees, retirees, eligible family members and friends.

Policy Statement

The intent of this policy is to equip employees with general guidelines when dressing for travel. Guidelines When Travelling for Business or Leisure Air Canada's dress code is designed to respect and reflect our brand image, while allowing employees the flexibility to travel comfortably. Whether employees are travelling for business or leisure, their appearance must be clean and appropriate for the activities or meetings scheduled for their day. Any clothing that is stained, dirty, transparent, torn, revealing, or otherwise compromises a neat appearance, is not permitted.

Dress with “care, class and common sense”. In other words, employees have the discretion to make their clothing choice based on what is appropriate. Employees must use common sense in their choice of attire.

When travelling on other airlines, employees should follow the other airlines’ dress code guidelines. Employees should contact the airline directly before they travel to inquire about their dress code. We trust that employees will make the right choices. In case of uncertainty, employees are free to consult with our Travel Care Team at [email protected] .

Non-Compliance with the Policy Employees are personally held accountable for their attire and the attire of friends and family members when traveling on pass privileges. Incidents of non-compliance (Air Canada employees and family members or employees from other airlines) should be reported to the Travel and Recognition department at: [email protected] .

Failure to comply with any information contained in this policy will result in the suspension of travel pass privileges

You can use web check-in and our self-service kiosk

Through check-in is not available for stand-by passengers.

When there are two or more interline employees travelling on the same flight, the date of listing by the reservation department will determine the onload/offload and the cabin upgrade/downgrade order.

Non-revs are upgraded after revenue passengers. If economy is full, the non-rev will automatically be put into the next class of service that has available seats (premium economy or business class), regardless of what class of service they listed themselves on. Air Canada does not leave non-revs behind if there are seats open in business or premium economy, but not in economy.

Air Canada Prepares to Cancel Flights Beginning Sunday as Strike Looms

Air Canada Prepares to Cancel Flights Beginning Sunday as Strike Looms

Those with travel plans via Air Canada could be left in the lurch beginning this weekend.

The airline will start suspending flights in a three-day wind-down period beginning on Sunday if a deal is not reached with its pilots.

Over 5,200 pilots with Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge can officially issue a strike notice with the possibility that members could be on the picket lines by Wednesday, September 18.

In a statement released this morning, the company says negotiations with the Air Line Pilots Association are nearing an impasse.

Tens of thousands of passengers are expected to be impacted should a strike notice be issued. Those with bookings from September 15 – 23 can choose to rebook their flights at no additional cost. The policy will be expanded depending on the status of the dispute.

Air Canada also plans to work with other airlines to pick up the slack in the event of major cancellations. Customers will be notified of any changes.

PAL Airlines, which operates some regional routes on Air Canada’s behalf, is not included in the labour dispute.

Five things to know about a potential work stoppage at Air Canada

MONTREAL — Air Canada is preparing for a potential shutdown of most operations next week as contract talks with its pilots' union near an impasse.

Here are five things Canadians should know about the situation, and how it could affect travel plans:

What is the timeline for a potential strike or lockout?

Air Canada said Monday that a 72-hour strike or lockout notice could be issued as early as Sunday, Sept. 15. At that point, the airline would begin winding down operations, a process that would take place gradually over three days. The airline says its "managed shutdown" plan is meant to minimize airport chaos and prevent travellers from being stranded.

What should I do if have a flight scheduled for next week?

If you wish to postpone your trip, Air Canada is allowing customers with travel scheduled between Sept. 15 and 23 to make changes right now to their booking at no cost. You can also elect to cancel your flight and receive a credit for future travel instead.

If you choose to keep your booking and a strike or lockout notice is issued and your flight is cancelled, Air Canada will notify you and you'll be eligible for a full refund.

What if my flight is scheduled for later in the month? How long could disruptions at Air Canada last?

If a work stoppage occurs, Air Canada says it will make every effort to resume normal operations as quickly as possible once a settlement with its pilots is reached. But it could take seven to 10 days to restore the system to full capacity in the wake of a complete shutdown. The airline says it will expand its existing goodwill policy around changes and cancellations beyond Sept. 23 if necessary.

Am I owed compensation if my flight is cancelled?

Passengers will receive refunds for cancelled flights, but customers won't be entitled to any additional compensation. Under Canada's existing Airline Passenger Protection Regulations, labour disruptions are considered out of an airline's control and not eligible for compensation requests.

I'm planning to ship goods by air. Will that also be affected?

Cargo operations would also be affected by a shutdown at Air Canada. The airline has already begun limiting acceptance of some goods due to average shipment timelines and the potential risk of disruption.

'People are fed up': Metro Vancouver travellers react to looming Air Canada pilots' strike

Metro Vancouver travellers are expressing fears about flights booked with Air Canada ahead of a looming strike.

Numerous locals say they booked flights with Canada's flag carrier without realizing job action could affect their trip.

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Canada, the union representing Air Canada's pilots, can legally issue a 72-hour strike notice as early as Sept. 15. The union is asking for several key changes to the outdated contract, most notably wage increases commensurate with salaries at U.S. airlines.

Air Canada announced Monday, Sept. 9 it is finalizing contingency plans for the looming strike, characterizing job action as "increasingly likely." The airline says ALPA's wage demands "far exceed average Canadian wage increases."

Metro Vancouverite  Shauna Louise  expressed concern about the possible job action on X/Twitter, sharing: "I leave for Japan in two weeks on Air Canada."

Another local, Gustavo Lin, said he had a flight booked on Sept. 19 with Air Canada but didn't want to risk missing his flight and booked another one with United Airlines.

"Getting Air Canada credit to use for a future flight," he wrote in his post .

W. Andrew Powell wrote that "it would be a huge mistake for Air Canada to let a strike happen. Whatever goodwill they may have is going to evaporate fast, and people are fed up with the airlines in general."

Another frustrated traveller wrote that she couldn't afford to pay for a new flight. Her original option cost $550 and she's now looking at options over $900.

Metro Vancouver travellers looking at alternative options ahead of Air Canada pilots' strike

Many other people aren't sure if they should re-book flights now or wait until the weekend.

Air Canada has a  Goodwill Rebooking Policy  that allows travellers flying in the period immediately preceding and after the end of the cooling-off period on Sept. 17 to change their already purchased travel plans for free. The airline is also working with other airlines to re-book passengers on flights. However, it says these options are limited.

Air Canada says it will notify customers of cancelled flights due to the strike. These travellers will be eligible for a full refund and can  manage their bookings  online or through the Air Canada mobile app.
