What Snorkel Locations Will You See?

We get asked this question a lot over the phone with our Airlie Beach Snorkeling Tour . Unfortunately, there is no definite answer as conditions change daily. Our qualified crew choose the best snorkel sites that suit the day’s tides wind and cloud cover. Let us explain how these affect which location we use.

Tides – This affects the depth of the water from the seafloor to the surface.

Wind – This is the number 1 major feature to where we choose our Airlie Beach Snorkeling location. We pick sites that the wind is not directly blowing towards.

This is no ordinary boat, powered by FOUR 300hp Suzuki Engines the boat is fast and yet extremely comfortable with highback padded seats. Seasickness is virtually eliminated as the boat rides on top of any waves, with no rocking side to side whatsoever, making this Whitsundays day trip perfect for any guest worried about feeling sick on the ocean. ** Note – this is a general itinerary for our Airlie Beach Snorkeling Tour there are a lot of factors that can change this including tides and wind. ZigZag Departs Coral Sea Marina|Resort in Airlie Beach. Our meeting time is 8 am sharp. Departing from Coral Sea Marina we head to the snorkel location for around 90 minutes. Then off to Whitehaven Beach for lunch and a guided walk to the south Whitehaven lookout. Return back at Coral sea marina at 4 pm

ZigZag Whitsundays Whitehaven Beach Tour tour will spend around 2 hours discovering the new south lookout and the beach. This Beach is continually voted Australia’s number 1 beach in the Trip Advisor awards. The beach is 7 km long and holds some of the purest silica sand in the world totalling around 98.7%. ZigZag will make sure you get away from the daily crowds and have plenty of time to explore with family and friends. When the boat first pulls up to Whitehaven, you will be served a cold buffet lunch.

The new South Whitehaven Lookout opened in 2019. In one direction you will see a spectacular view down the entire 7 km of Whitehaven Beach, and in the other direction, you will see the open ocean and islands leading back to the mainland. The walk is around 45 mins return (including time at the top) and is beginner grade and you will need a level of low-medium fitness. In my personal opinion, the South Lookout delivers more wow factor every day of the week while the Northern lookout highly depends on tides and is overcrowded

You will cruise out on a comfortable and purpose-built vessel, which has plenty of space for relaxing during the ride. It has two levels of air-conditioned luxury as well as shaded outdoor areas to ensure you get to enjoy maximum comfort during your journey! It will have everything you need for your day on the reef, and is an ideal place from which to explore the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and all its wonders. To ensure an enjoyable experience and maximum activity time on windy or inclement weather days, days, the operator may alter the Explore: Great Barrier Reef tour to the following: A full day cruise visiting up to three locations within the shelter of the Whitsunday Islands, which may include a stopover at Whitehaven Beach and up to two snorkel and dive locations situated in the northern section of the islands.

Your Responsibilities:

Please advise us before booking if any passengers are under 18 years old to ensure this is the appropriate trip. 

You must reconfirm all booked tours prior to travel as specified on your voucher. If applicable, notes such as dietary requirements, pick-up locations and additional fees should also be confirmed at this time. Reconfirmations cannot be actioned through Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel, and must be done so directly through the Service Operator as specified on each ticket.

It is your responsibility to notify us of ticket discrepancies. Please read through the details on your voucher thoroughly to ensure all details such as passenger names, ages and dates of travel on vouchers are correct.

All prices are stated in Australian dollars and include GST. Surcharges over peak holiday seasons may apply. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to limit courtesy transfers to select local accommodations. Private residences or Airbnb properties may be asked to meet at the closest confirmed location. Failure to meet at the specified pick-up location may be treated as “No Show”, for which the Client Cancellation Policy applies.

Merchant Fees:

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

All ticket/voucher reissues attract a $20 administration fee.

Open Date Vouchers / Gift Certificate:

Shipping Costs are in addition to the ticket price and will be added at check-out. Shipping costs are non-refundable and do not makeup part of the ticket value. 

E-Vouchers incur no shipping fees. You have 5 years to use the value of the voucher. Seasonal Price Rises will apply if travelling out the current seasons pricing. Vouchers can be exchanged for free up to the full value of the voucher excluding credit card fees and charges.

Cancellations

Client Cancellations:

Cancellations made more than 48 hours prior to departure will not incur a cancellation fee

Cancellations made between 48 and 24 hours prior to departure will incur a 50% cancellation fee

Cancellations on the day of tour or no shows will result in 100% charge

Transfers between tours can be made at the suppliers discretion, however, it should be noted that supplier fees may apply. Tour transfers also incur a $20 administration fee. 

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

3 Day 2 Night Dive - Snorkel - Sail

We always like to meet our guests the day before we set off on our 3 day 2 night diving and sailing adventure so we can give you advice on all the things you need to bring along for the journey.

Upon checking in, we will provide you with a souvenir environmental bag to pack your belongings in for the sailing trip.

We ask that you only take this bag on board with you as your luggage so make sure you trim down what you are taking to ensure it all fits in as there is limited space on the boat.

Traveling on board our 16.5m ketch , you will get to see the best parts of the Whitsundays with like minded guests who are there for the scuba diving and snorkelling and not the partying.

You will have the chance to explore the Whitsunday Islands as you sail, snorkel, dive, and bushwalk, you will visit the icons of the Whitsundays including Whitehaven Beach , as well as a cruise to the Outer Barrier Reef, some 2-3 hours beyond the islands.

Scuba Diving is definitely a main focus on board our sailing boat and the crew will ensure that even first time scuba divers feel safe and are able to enjoy the splendor of our magnificent coral reefs.

The crew love to dive and want everyone to try scuba diving so they offer the first scuba dive for free!

This will allow you to relax with the dive equipment, feel comfortable under water if it is the first time, and of course improve your abilities for future diving.

The crew on board are all fully qualified Dive Instructors and Divemasters.

Scuba Diving

We are the only boat in the Whitsunday Islands that takes our divers and snorkellers to the outer Great Barrier Reef to pristine dive and snorkel sites at Bait Reef.

It is here that the magic of the Great Barrier Reef comes alive with vibrant underwater activity from the brilliant marine life below the waters surface.     

The lagoon here provides a safe haven for overnight mooring giving our divers another opportunity to dive the reef again the next morning.

Our boat was purpose built for scuba diving and we have a compressor on board that is capable of filling 6 scuba tanks simultaneously to ensure our guests dive numbers are not limited by the number of tanks carried on board.

Note Bonus: We also include the first scuba dive in our dive trip cost and all dive equipment is also included in the price.   

Snorkelling & Sightseeing

Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands is just as exciting as scuba diving, as the coral reef rises up from the bottom of the ocean close to the surface very similar to how a shrub grows in your garden.

This allows snorkellers to get up close to the coral gardens to see the same marine life that the scuba divers can see down below the surface at levels of 7 - 12 metres

Our crew know these coral reefs like the back of their hand and they can show you the best parts to snorkel to enhance your Great Barrier Reef snorkelling experience.

Whitehaven Beach - Hill Inlet

Now you cannot come to the Whitsundays and not take a sailing trip to see the world famous stretch of sand called Whitehaven Beach.

This beach is made up of pure white silica sand that blinds you if you are not wearing sunglasses, so don't forget to pack them!

We will spend an afternoon here giving you plenty of time to explore and take as many selfies as possible.

• Hook Island

The northern end of Hook Island is one of the Whitsunday Islands best dive and snorkelling sites.

Hook Island is an ideal location for first time introductory scuba divers who can immerse themselves into the water from a gently sloping beach.   

Cora reef sites like Luncheon Bay , Mantaray Bay and Mackerel Bay will have you in awe with the vibrant marine life living amongst the soft coral gardens. 

• Whale Watching

Now who does not love to watch a huge Humpback Whale coming flying upwards vertically into the air from the depths of the Great Barrier Reef and then come crashing down with one ginormous splash?

The answer is no-one!

During the months of June thru to September these huge mammals arrive on the Great Barrier Reef to calve and mate in the safe surroundings of the coral fortresses of the Great Barrier Reef.   

In the beginning of the season you see the younger whales who are more inquisitive, and they just love to come up close to the boats to take a look at everyone on deck and then do some belly rolls, spy hopping, breaching and just generally showing off. 

They seem to hear and take note of all the squealing that is going on up on the boat and it drives them to do even more antics.

She is a 16.4m ketch that is fitted out for maximum comfort to accommodate 14 divers and snorkellers below her decks in air conditioned cabins.

Our communal saloon below deck is nice and roomy for get togethers and meals, and above deck there is lots of room for gearing up to go diving, snorkelling or simply relaxing in the sun.

As we are a dive boat we have all the good dive gear as well as an onboard dive compressor capable of filling 6 scuba tanks simultaneously.

Should there be no wind we put on our diesel engines and off we go to our next diving location.

All meals are freshly prepared on board and one of our specialities is a Hangi, a traditional New Zealand way method of cooking in an earth oven.

Our sail boat has two large bathrooms with electric toilets and freshwater showers with a high capacity hot water system.

Our aft deck is permanently shaded from the sun and any potential rain storms.   

Our on board cooks love the kitchen as it is fully electric with a microwave convection oven.

Scuba Diving Restrictions

• Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from scuba diving.
• Participation is subject to a medical questionnaire completed on board with the tour operator
• Minimum age for scuba diving is 12 years.
• Flying after scuba diving: a wait of 12 hours is recommended after one dive, 18 hour after 2 dives and at least 24 hours after multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater.

• Your safety in the water is the primary concern. To ensure your comfort and safety divers must be 18 years or over (if 12 years or older may be able to dive with parent’s consent) and they may require that you have a Divers Medical Certificate for certain medical conditions and also if you are over 45 years old.

• Vessel operators reserve the right to vary itineraries for safety and passenger comfort.

We have a 14 day cancellation period for all overnight trips, a 21 day cancellation period for all private charters and a 24 hour cancellation period for day trips.

There are no changes permitted within this time and if a booking is cancelled, there will be 100% no refund.

A passenger is only able to participate in water activities if they have a level of swimming experience. This is a Whitehaven beach half day tour on JetSki’s. This package explores the beautiful Pioneer Bay, Port of Airlie and 2 Islands. This safari tour is around 2.5 hours long and takes you past South Molle Island and Day Dream Island on a thrilling adventure. The tour is fully guided by trained instructors and often encounters Sea turtles, dugongs and sea birds. Each ski can take 2 people. You will get a qualified guide, all jetski apparel is provided. The adventure operates daily in most weather conditions. Thorough safety briefing and demonstrations provided by a qualified tour guide. We have 10 jet skis available per tour (maximum of 16 people). This is a fast paced day trip visiting Hill Inlet Lookout and the south end of Whitehaven Beach. You will get time snorkeling the coral reefs and have lunch on Whitehaven Beach. The boat itself has 4 engines totaling 900 horsepower, with this kind of speed there will be no seasickness.

Whitsunday Bullet 

One of the few trips at this low price that offers scuba diving. Snorkeling is also included, the scuba diving must be pre-booked. The Whitsunday Bullet visits Hill Inlet lookout and the south end of Whitehaven Beach. The vessel was purpose built for speed and comfort. It has a top speed of 25 knots so you can be assured of getting to your destination quickly and in style.

Whitsundays Snorkelling Adventure and Whitehaven Beach

Each Ocean Rafting day offers three days in one, including an exhilarating ride to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, pristine Whitsundays snorkelling reefs and guided Whitsunday Island National Parks walks.

The Northern Exposure eco adventure is a favourite amongst avid snorkellers because it is the only Whitsunday adventure which includes two different snorkel destinations.  Enjoy snorkelling around Hook Island including Mantaray Bay, Maureens Cove and other specially selected Whitsundays snorkelling spots, ensuring a memorable underwater experience.

The tour also includes a visit to the stunning beach at Hill Inlet, north end of Whitehaven Beach, and a guided National Park walk to Hill Inlet lookout above the silica sand of Whitehaven.  We are the only tour to have direct access to Hill Inlet beaches, where you can explore, enjoy an optional fresh tropical lunch pack served at the beach and swim in the crystal clear turquoise ocean or just relax on the silica white sand.  Small groups allow you to experience this tropical paradise away from the crowds.

Experience Ocean Rafting’s signature adrenalin fuelled action while exploring the islands, inlets and beaches on custom built semi-rigid inflatable vessels, travelling at speeds of up to 30 knots. The vessels are up to 12 metre semi-rigid inflatable vessels, originally designed and built as rescue crafts and are driven by 500hp engines, allowing you to experience a fun, high speed ride amongst the natural beauty of the Whitsundays.

The main difference between the two tours is that the Northern Exposure has more snorkelling time and the Southern Lights offers more beach time.

A visit to Hill Inlet, Whitehaven Beach and snorkelling pristine coral reefs all in one day, along with the “ride of your life”, allows for a very special adventure!
