Going somewhere with your baby? Well deserved if you ask us, given the past 9 months you’ve just endured!
And by no means are we trying to deter you from your safe travels with your little one, but tending to the baby’s needs such as their eating, sleeping and changing diapers while on a trip can be quite challenging for the first time.
So, we’re here to help by answering your questions about baby travel cots. Questions like what a travel cot is, how to put up a travel cot, and how to fold a travel cot. Get these bits done right, and you’ll be set for a full and restful night’s sleep for both baby and you.
Unavoidably, you might find yourself stressing over the essentials to bring and how to cater to their needs. Little things can pile on the stress, such as baby food packs, bottle sterilization, extra supplies and the all-important necessities for a good nights night’s sleep.
Babies spend most of their time sleeping, so a good quality sleep should be one of your main priorities here. How do we achieve this seemingly simple task? You got it – a good travel cot
As we all know, whenever babies feel discomfort or dissatisfaction, they can cry a lot. And let’s face it, no parent wants a screeching baby the whole holiday (can you imagine…)
Luckily, there are lightweight, portable travel cots available that can help solve the whole sleeping conundrum for your little one, which in turn will lead to a happier baby, where everyone can enjoy the baby’s laughter instead of the tears.
Sounds good right? Pull up a seat and let’s get to it.
What is a travel cot?
The travel cot is a product made for babies to sleep in and parents usually call it sent from heaven as it is very convenient to use. There are different kinds of travel cots to choose from depending on the level of need. And these are a standard travel cot, a pop-up travel cot and a bassinet travel cot. A standard travel cot has a collapsible frame and removable mattress.
It can be also be used as a playpen and suitable for babies and toddlers. And the pop-up travel cot is the smaller one that instantly pops up into a bed and can be folded for easy carriage. It is best for smaller and lighter babies. Lastly, the bassinet travel cot is like the two other kinds but much smaller and softer, which is best for newborn babies.
If you’ve chosen the standard travel cot, the next question is, how to set up the travel cot? It’s just quick and easy. Whether you are familiar with it, heard about it or are just a beginner and don’t know where to start. We’ll cover a step by step guide on how to put up a travel cot, how to fold a travel cot, as well as how to put it back down again.
How to put up a travel cot
Let’s get started. Firstly, let’s get the travel cot out of the bag. Now, considering the wide range of different models here, you may need to slightly adapt the below to your own. Every travel cot will come with a set of safety instructions, so please make sure you follow these, too.
But, as I know from experience, not every set of instructions comes as easy to follow as you’d hoped for. So our instructions for how to put up a travel cot might just save the day;
- Place it on a flat surface – Firmly place it on the floor. Making sure that it’s a flat surface makes it be easier for you to set it up. Hold and gather all the four-leg corners in the middle. To know that you get it right, you can see the circle with a pull cord in the middle.
- Open the top – By using both of your hands, spread the four-leg corners simultaneously, pushing them towards their direction and exposing the circle in the middle of the cot.
- Pull up the sides – All at once, pull up the sides. Do the opposite sides together. The longer sides first and then the shorter sides. Make sure that they clicked in.
- Push the circle down in the middle – By using your palm, push the circle down and flatten the surface. You’ll be able to see where you put the mattress cot, covering the circle in the middle. After that, you’re done!
Now pat yourself on the back for a task well accomplished!
Err, so how do we get this thing back down again…
How to put down a travel cot
- Pull the circle up in the middle – After removing the mattress cot off the bedding, you’ll see the circle in the middle with a pull cord. Pull it up. Make sure to hold the leg corner sides.
- Unclick buttons on both side s – You’ll see that buttons are placed on both sides, usually on the longer sides of the travel cot. Unclick the buttons and make sure you unclick them on both sides at the same time. To check if you’ve done it correctly if you did it right, it should look sloppy and make a “U” shape.
Note: If you won’t click it properly, the legs won’t meet even if you try to push them together. So, see to it that when you put down and put up the travel cot, move it to the opposite side, it should be at the same time.
We also found the below video super helpful before we came fully accustomed to my own baby travel cot.
So, now that you know how to set up a travel cot, you will save a lot of time, effort and stress if those pesky instructions are like a foreign language to you. In turn, this means good quality sleep for the baby, good quality sleep for you…and a thoroughly enjoyable trip for everyone involved.
…Other guests included.
Enjoy every moment, and have a truly fantastic holiday with the family!

How to put up a travel cot
You've spent the day travelling with your family, you're exhausted and ready for sleep, but all that remains is to get everyone ready for bed. But wait...how do you put up a travel cot?
We know that putting together baby gear is rarely as simple as it's made out to be, so to make your life easier, we've pulled together instructions on how to put up a travel cot for four of the most popular travel cots on the market.
You'll notice that while most are pretty similar, some differ slightly and even offer the option of a newborn bassinet.
Bugaboo Stardust Travel Cot
Take the travel cot out of the bag.
Release the buttons on the side and unfold.
To set up the newborn bassinet
Take out the mattress.
Zip in the bassinet.
Attach the velcro straps to the mattress and place the mattress in the bed.
Baby Bjorn Travel Cot Light
Open the bag. Lift out the cot.
Hold the two short sides. Turn the cot so its legs are towards the floor and unfold it with one clear movement so that the legs unfold.
Make sure that each leg is securely in place by trying to push it back into its folded position without pulling the leg.
Place the mattress inside the cot. Pull the four red strap loops on the underside of the mattress cover through the holes in the bottom of the cot. Fasten each loop to a red hook.
BabyDan Travel Cot
Unzip the bag and remove the travel cot and stand the unit upright. Separate two velcro labs.
Remove the mattress pad and separate the four corner posts.
Lift the side rails upwards from the middle until each locks into position. Side rails must be raised above the horizontal position before they lock.
Push the centre support until it locks into position.
Lay mattress pad on the floor of the travel cot, soft side up. The middle velcro lab in both ends of the mattress are to put through the two holes in the cot and attached to the velcro under the cot.
Nuna Sena Aire
To open the travel cot frame, unfasten hook and loop straps from the mattress and unfold.
Pull the short sides of the travel cot frame outward.
Reach through the bassinet and push down on the center hub at the bottom of the travel cot.
To set up the bassinet, install the mattress soft side up.
To set up the Nuna Sena Aire Travel Cot
Remove the mattress from the bassinet. Remove the 4 snaps on the bassinet fabric from the snaps at the center of each side of the travel cot.
Release the 4 buckles on the four corners of the travel cot. Once the buckle is separated, remove long strap from the loop on the travel cot.
Remove the bassinet from the travel cot.
Place the mattress on the bottom of the Travel cot.
Feeding the straps on the corners through the holes. Fasten the hook and loop. Repeat on other corners.

Koo-di travel cot review, reviews , travel.

This week I was given the opportunity to test out the Koo-di travel cot. There are a lot of different travel cots on the market, but most of them seem far too big for my tiny baby Isla! She sleeps in her Sleepyhead bed at home (you can read my 5* review of the Sleepyhead here ), which makes her feel nice and snug so I couldn’t help but feel that most travel cots are unnecessarily large and might feel a bit intimidating, open and empty for her! I liked the Koo-di travel cot because it was small and compact- the perfect size for my little travel baby!
Having said that the travel crib is small, it was actually really spacious inside, with more than enough room for my 6 week old baby. Whilst this crib obviously won’t last forever, I’m confident that it will see us through our travels for the first 6 months of her life. The crib measures L100 x W60 x H69cm when assembled. I also really like that the crib has a mosquito net. This July we will be travelling around Costa Rica. We are staying in Air B n B apartments, many of which are in jungle locations and don’t always have air conditioning… so the threat of mosquitos is real! This crib gives me piece of mind that my baby won’t be bitten to smithereens while we sleep!
The travel crib is also super convenient to carry around. There are so many baby items on the market that market themselves as ‘travel friendly’, but in reality they are heavy and bulky and if you were to take them all with you on your trips you’d need a small van to transport them all! The koo-di, however, is true to its’ word- it really is lightweight, compact and easily transportable. It comes with a neat little travel bag, which unlike many items I’ve experienced in the past, can be easily packed and unpacked without having to struggle to make everything fit!
Lastly, the travel crib is easily assembled in a couple of minutes- perfect for those late nights or when you want to put baby down asap! There are a couple of rods to slot in but it’s super easy and fast to do. You then attach the body to the top of the crib with the small fastenings and you’re all set. It’s not quite as easy as ‘popping up’, but it is simpler than other travel cots I have experienced and is super easy to do.
[…] wears clothes aged up to one month!). I also tested the Koodi travel crib (you can read about that here). The Koodi was great for small babies but I felt that it lacked stability if baby Isla was to roll […]
[…] the UK or if we drive to Europe, but I think while she is small enough I will take our travel Koo-di travel cot when we travel abroad as this folds up much smaller (but will be no good once she’s bigger and […]

Aldi light weight mamia travel cot.

Has anyone purchased a mamia travel cot? What is the mattress thickness like? Is it easy to assemble? Thanks
Just giving this a bump^^ for you @SMul92 - hopefully someone will be along in a mo. Oh, and we've also got some travel cot reviews here ;)
Hey, we have one of these, can I ask what you pad the mattress with? Thinking about buying a foam mattress to go on top. The cot itself is excellent, but our little one seems to wake up everytime we use it; think the mattress is a little thin & maybe the fold in the middle is bothering him.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro
2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video
The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.
The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.
Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.
The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations
By Claudia Looi 2 Comments
Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.
Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.
Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.
The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean
To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow. Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.
The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:
1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.
2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
