Belle and Sebastian Announce Spring 2023 North American Headlining Tour

Belle and Sebastian are extending their ongoing headlining tour in support of A Bit of Previous , their ninth studio album released earlier this year. The collective has announced new North American dates scheduled for spring 2023, a few months after they conclude their extensive trek through Europe.

The North American tour leg begins on April 24 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and hits stateside on April 28 with a show in Milwaukee. Belle and Sebastian will make stops in Detroit, Toronto, Ithaca, Jersey City, Atlanta, St. Petersburg, Birmingham, St. Louis, and more. The tour wraps on May 19 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with an outdoor show. General sale for the newly announced tour dates begins on Oct. 19 via the official Belle and Sebastian website.

“We did it together, us and the city,” Belle and Sebastian wrote in the album’s liner notes. “This record was the first ‘full’ LP recording for B&S in Glasgow since ‘Fold Your Hands Child,’ 1999. We clocked in every morning, we played our songs, we wrote together, we tried new things, we took the proverbial lump of clay, and we threw it every day.”

Belle and Sebastian have unveiled a 2023 run of North American tour dates in support of their latest album, A Bit of Previous .

The trek adds 20 dates to the Scottish outfit’s schedule, which already includes previously-announced UK and South American legs in 2022. Following a European circuit in early 2023, Belle and Sebastian’s new stretch kicks off in Guadalajara, Mexico on April 24th. They’ll play Detroit, Toronto, Atlanta, and more before closing in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 19th. See the full itinerary below.

Tickets for Belle and Sebastian’s North American tour will go on sale Friday, October 21st at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster .

Belle and Sebastian’s live engagements have had a special feel thanks to their new LP, which featured the septet recording together in their hometown of Glasgow for the first time since 1999. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Martin delved deeper into the development of the band’s eleventh album in an interview with Consequence in May.

The band gave a sample of their latest live set in July with a characteristically whimsical performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk . The show’s abbreviated tracklist included the recent single “Unnecessary Drama” and several other cuts from A Bit of Previous as well as “Judy and the Dream of Horses” from 1996’s If You’re Feeling Sinister .

Belle and Sebastian Share 2024 North American Tour Dates

Belle and Sebastian have announced a string of North American tour dates slated for spring 2024. The ensemble, which hails from Glasglow, will set out on the impending run beginning on April 23, 2024, at The Eastern in Atlanta, traveling from coast to coast and concluding the run with a mid-May show in the Pacific Northwest. 

Following the first night on stage, Belle and Sebastian will continue their jaunt with a follow-up on April 24 at The National in Richmond, Va. From there, the band will travel to Boston ahead of ensuing gigs in Montreal and Toronto. After time in Canada, they’ll return to the States, performing at the Brooklyn Paramount Theatre in New York, prior to dropping down to Washington D.C.

After spending time in the nation’s capital, the group will traverse the Midwest, stopping in Detroit and Chicago before evenings in Kalamazoo, Mich., Milwaukee, Wis., and Minneapolis. May 10 will see the group appear at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver before three nights at The Bellwether in Los Angeles. 

Moving up the West Coast, Belle and Sebastian will perform at the stunning Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif., on May 16, followed by an evening at Revolution Hall in Portland, Ore., and the final stop of the tour, scheduled for May 19 at the Moore Theater in Seattle. On the road, the band will welcome support from Haley Heynderickx and The Weather Station at select stops.

Belle and Sebastian Announce New Album and Tour, Share Video for New Song: Watch

Belle and Sebastian have announced A Bit of Previous , their 10th album and their first studio album since 2015’s Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance . It’s out May 6 via Matador . Today, the band has shared the video for the album’s lead single “Unnecessary Drama.” Watch it, and find the tracklist and four variant album covers, below.

Along with the album news, Belle and Sebastian have announced a spring and summer tour of the United States, plus some rescheduled tour dates in the United Kingdom and Europe at the end of 2022 and start of 2023. Find their tour itinerary below.

Recent tour reviews

Saw them this past summer in Oxford UK (O2 Academy). They used to be great in the 90s and early 00s. Not so much now. The guitarist and singer looked so bored for more than half of the show. They only started enjoying themselves when they played The Boy with The Arab Strap. The fun really began with that song. They should tour less and really focus on a few shows to deliver good performances.

After standing up at the recent B & S gigs in Brighton and London, I was a bit nervous about the all-seated event in Liverpool. Would there be a connection? Would there be dancing (not me, you understand, I'm a 60 year old male; but it's important for the atmosphere)? I needn't have worried; well before the end the whole house was standing, dancing, having a blast.

The set list is sufficiently different each time to reward serial concert goers, but the absolute highlight for me was Seymour Stein. I'm pretty sure they've never played it at my 5 earlier gigs. I got pretty emotional, at that moment life was like having sex in a bath of melted chocolate.

I hate it when people talk at gigs. Why pay 40 quid to stand around talking loudly to someone else? It's certainly not my idea of a good night out. So thank you to the people of Liverpool for showing such respect for the band and the audience. In fact it was almost embarrassingly silent between songs. But when it was time to celebrate and show appreciation for another outstanding performance from my favourite band, there was no holding back. A night to remember and cherish.

I've seen B&S quite a few times and they never fail to disappoint, and of course the Royal Albert Hall is such a great venue for anyone. We were watching them perform "If you're feeling Sinister" which is 1 of their earliest and best albums, what a pleasure it was too! The energy and enthusiasm of B&S shows no limits - whether it's inviting people onto the stage, or dancing through the audience in the Royal Albert Hall they put on a fantastic show. Stuart Murdoch certainly knows how to get an audience going - love it and highly recommend everyone sees them at least once!

(also, please note unrelated to the RAH concert but they're the perfect festival band - 1 of my favourite gig moments ever was seeing them play Boy with the Arab Strap at End of the Road a few years back, absolutely amazing!)

Bell's Brewery kicks off 2024 Beer Garden Concert Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The 2024 Beer Garden Concert Series at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo hosted its first performance of the season Monday.

Scottish indie-pop band Belle and Sebastian took the stage as the series' first of 14 acts this summer.

To commemorate the group being the first act of the series, Bell's released a special beer in collaboration with the artists that is only available for the night on draft.

"We get to do fun collaborations. Like today, we brewed a beer with the band called "Bell's and Sebastian," Bell's Customer Experience Manager Valerie Walters said. "We have delicious food and just a lot of wonderful offerings for people in the beer garden."

According to organizers, tickets are selling fast.

“Besides Oberon, there is nothing that signifies summer at Bell’s more than our Beer Garden concerts,” Bell’s Customer Experience Manager, Val Walters, said. “Seeing a concert outdoors is an unrivaled experience. We are incredibly excited to bring musicians from around the world to play in Southwest Michigan as we open the doors to our community and make lifelong memories together.”

The full list of the series' acts include performances by artists playing indie, folk, pop, rock, orchestral, and American reggae music, according to organizers:

The unique, unpredictable, and fiercely loved band have a plethora of accolades and plaudits to their name including winning the “Best Newcomers” BRIT in 1999, selling out the Hollywood Bowl, and contributing to the soundtrack for an array of films (Juno, The Power of Nightmares). Still regarded as “One of the most thoughtful and compelling bands out there” (The Times), this show is sure to be a must-see.

For Australian fans, they will be able to experience the warmth and richness of the Belle and Sebastian live show at venues right around the country, starting in Brisbane and continuing around the East Coast before finishing with in Perth.

Joining Belle and Sebastian will be English singer-songwriter BADLY DRAWN BOY marking their first trip down under in over twenty years.

Releasing his first album in ten years – BANANA SKIN SHOES – in 2020, Badly Drawn Boy (aka Damon Gough) re-entered radars with a collection of material to remind new and old fans alike of his exemplary songwriting skill. A Mercury Prize winner (2000’s THE HOUR OF THE BEWILDERBEAST), Badly Drawn Boy has built a musical legacy as a solo musician and composer that has ensured his status as one of Britain’s most important and defining voices of the late ‘90s, into the early ‘00s.

Since their debut in 1996 with the seminal record TIGERMILK, Belle and Sebastian have been an integral player in the development of an indie-pop sound synonymous with music coming out of the U.K. over the course of the following decade. Subsequent releases, including 1998’s THE BOY WITH THE ARAB STRAP and 2003’s CATASTROPHE WAITRESS introduced more audiences around the world to Belle and Sebastian’s brand of pop songwriting, solidifying their place as indie royalty.

Bell’s Brewery hosts multiple musicians for 2024 Beer Garden Concert Series

LANSING, Mich. (WILX)—A Michigan brewery is hosting the 2024 Beer Garden Concert Series in Kalamazoo.

Bell’s Brewery hosted the 2024 Beer Garden Concert Series at Bell’s Eccentric Café. On Monday, organizers said the Scottish indie pop band Belle and Sebastian kicked off a summer of live music.

Thousands of attendees are expected to be at the beer garden to watch musicians perform live and drink Bell’s beer.

Bell’s released the full lineup of musicians for the festival.

The brewery says all beer garden shows will occur in rain or shine. Concertgoers must be at least 18 years old to attend.
