branson mo tourist season

September is a great month.,

School is back in session, the fall season hasn't started yet,

The weather is still warm,

April is also a good month, spring in full swing...

The worst time is july-august, and december,,

Christmas is magical at silver dollar city, but the crowds are crazy,

' class=

In Missouri, the “season” is 100% Memorial Day – Labor Day. I agree that September is probably a good time to visit. The weather is usually decent – unlike this time of year when it’s unpredictable.

Best Times to Visit Branson, MO | Spring, Summer, Fall, & Winter

Best_Time_to_Visit_Branson_Missouri

There’s a saying in Branson that goes a little like this — “If you don’t like the weather, stick around. It’ll change.”

It’s an accurate statement and one that rings true every year here in Ozark country. Branson locals and visitors will have the chance to experience each season to its fullest — along with fun, annual festivals, and events — making every season the best time to visit Branson, Missouri!

Here is a short rundown of everything you need to know about visiting Branson during the Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter seasons!

Spring (March — Early May)

Best_Time_to_Visit_Branson_Missouri

March through May is a transition season for Branson as the lingering effects of winter are beginning to melt away, but the air is still pretty chilly willy . Temperatures will move between the mid-30s to the upper 50s, so layering your clothes is important during the spring season! In May, Branson is transitioning into the hustle and bustle of the busy season with festivals, events, and Easter brunches with the average high in the mid-70s.

  • Spring Ride Days (March & April)
  • Street Fest  (April)
  • Easter Brunch in Branson ( April)

Summer (June — August)

Best_Time_to_Visit_Branson_Missouri

In Branson, summer is a time when the roads are packed and the outdoor attractions are in full swing! The kids are out of school, and families are ready for some vacation, fun, and hopefully, some R & R. The hot spots of Branson are Silver Dollar City, White Water, and West State Hwy 76, so either be prepared for traffic or try to show up early if you can!

The average high temperature is typically around the mid to upper 80s but be warned that some days will creep into the upper 90s. Room rates in Branson are relatively affordable year-round – and, thankfully, summertime is no exception.

  • Moonlight Madness at Silver Dollar City (May-August)
  • Branson Landing’s Liberty Light Up Celebration  (July)
  • Star-Spangled Summer  (June-July)

Fall (September — October)

Best_Time_to_Visit_Branson_Missouri

Fall in Branson is a beautiful time of year full of festivities, changing leaves, and sweater weather. Temperatures from September to October range from the mid-40s to the low 80s, so scarves, hats, jackets, and gloves will be a good idea! Room rates will hold steady this time of year, and the traffic index will lighten in certain areas.

  • Harvest Festival Featuring Crafts & Pumpkins in The City (September – October)
  • Annual Safe Street Trick or Treat at the Branson Landing  (October)
  • Fall Roundup at Sycamore Creek Family Ranch (October)
  • Shepherd’s Pumpkin Fest ( October)

See more fall festivals and events in our travel blog here.

Winter ( November — February)

Best_Time_to_Visit_Branson_Missouri

During the months of November, December, January, and the early weeks of February, Branson has an average low temperature of the 20s. Buurrrr!

If you can brave the chilly climate, the winter holidays are one of Branson’s peak tourist seasons — for good reason. The city comes to life with festive lights, Christmas decorations, and special holiday events complete with pipping hot cocoa.

Visitors need to bring coats and pack enough layers to make an Eskimo happy as the weather yo-yos around a bit from tolerable cold to freeze your face off . Average highs are 58 in November, and average lows move down to 27 in December. Since accommodations book up rather quickly during the holidays, travelers should reserve their lodging as far ahead as possible — and the same goes for select show and attraction tickets.

  • An Old Time Christmas® Presented by Humana® (November-December)
  • The Trail of Lights at Shepherd of the Hills (November-December)
  • North Pole Adventure (November-December)
  • Branson Landing’s Winter Wonderland ( November)
  • Branson’s Adoration Celebration Parade ( December)
  • Branson Christmas Shows ( November – December)

Spring is the first season offering smaller crowds. Keep in mind, though, Branson does attract a family Spring Break crowd so there can be busy weeks during this season from late March to early April.

Similarly, fall is a less crowded time of year to visit the area. Families with kids have started school leaving the attractions open to those with more flexible schedules.

Aside from deciding whether you want to go during peak or not, you also have to decide which activities you prefer to experience! Each season offers a unique combination of indoor and outdoor adventures .

Temperatures might decrease in the winter, and most families are limited to the dining table three times a day. To shake up your winter routine, head outside, where you'll find numerous popular attractions such as museums, retail malls, pristine lakes, and the breathtaking vistas that Branson has to offer.

If you plan on attending an indoor pool party, dress appropriately for the season. You must know whether or not there will be snowfall. Snowfall might be beautiful at times, but too much can be hazardous. If the weather gets cold, postpone your vacation or stay close to home.

The Best Times to Visit the Ozarks During Seasonal Weather

You do Paris in the spring, upstate New York in the fall, Florida in the winter, and Yellowstone in the summer. But when do you do the Ozarks ? What's the best time to visit Branson MO? Any time of year is ideal for a trip since there is plenty to do all year long. Here some pros and cons when you visit the Ozarks for the different seasons:

Spring There's a magic to in the spring if what you're after is a quiet, yet full view of the city, and you don't have to be bothered by the chaotic traffic. For the most part, shows get geared up for the season throughout March and sometimes as early as February. Since shows are just starting up again, the productions are often fresh and more motivated than later in the season.

Summer For visitors with children, summer   is the perfect time for a family trip. Summer offers numerous options for a fun family adventure with plenty of outdoor activities including White Water , Silver Dollar City , Shoot for the Stars Mini Golf, and other exciting outdoor attractions. Since Missouri can get pretty steamy during the summer months, so (unless you have young ones) stick to spring or fall for overall comfort.

Fall Like the spring, you won't have to mess with as much traffic if you visit in the fall. Since the shows are close to the end of their seasons, visitors will see a more practiced and polished performance. The weather tends to be cooler (light jacket weather), but the changing autumn hues of the trees on the rolling Ozarks hills provides an excellent environment for a day-trip to one of the local parks or an attraction like Inspiration Tower, Silver Dollar City, Horseback Trail Rides, Chopper Charters Helicopter Tours and other attractions . Be sure to check out the Ozark Empire Fair and Farm Fest during your stay in nearby Springfield.

Winter Most shows run from about March until Christmastime. During Christmas, the city truly glistens and qualifies for an excursion to see the millions of lights which adorn the theaters and shops along the 76 Strip. The warmth of the city's spirit during this time far outweighs the chilly outdoors, and favorite locations during Christmastime include Silver Dollar City, Trail of Lights, Titanic , Dolly Parton's Stampede , Miracle of Christmas , and many more Christmas-themed shows and attractions.

Updated July 12, 2023

branson mo tourist season

Silver Dollar City Silver Dollar City

One of the best amusement parks in the U.S. , Silver Dollar City is a unique theme park that combines both thrilling rides and entertainment, as it embraces a down-home, late 19th-century vibe. Even while visitors scream their heads off on the newest ride, they'll still feel like they've been transported to the 1880s. Attractions like the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train, which travels through Ozarks country, and the signature Fire-In-The-Hole roller coaster, an indoor coaster that rides through "town" and across a fiery bridge, help foster the old-time feeling. With about 100 craftspeople demonstrating heritage crafts, everything from blacksmithing to taffy pulling, visitors get a lesson in 1800s life. Travelers can even take home souvenirs made by the craftspeople, from lye soap to blown glass, along with homemade candies and candles. The food at Silver Dollar City centers around down-home favorites, including buffets and skillet meals. Along with its rides and shops, Silver Dollar City is known for its shows, which range from bluegrass pickers to gospel performers to musicals.

Although Silver Dollar City is family-friendly, some say that the park is best for kids who are 36 inches or taller since there's a height requirement for most rides. Recent travelers also mentioned the hills inside the park, recommending that future visitors be prepared to walk. Some also warned that opening weekend was extremely busy with traffic and ride lines and it's best to avoid. If you don't want to purchase snacks in the park, pack your own; Silver Dollar City allows visitors to bring in food and nonalcoholic beverages.

Sight & Sound Theatres Sight & Sound Theatres

The 2,000-seat Sight & Sound Theatres – with locations both in Branson and Lancaster, Pennsylvania – is one of the top things to do in Branson. The theater stages shows with Biblical themes and utilizes real animals in its production along with 50 actors on a 300-foot stage. Some of the recent musicals include "Jesus" and "Miracle of Christmas." Billing itself as family-friendly, the theater even has a glass-encased family room, which allows parents to care for young children and watch the performance on a TV without serving as a distraction to the audience.

But it's not just families that enjoyed the choreography and elaborately costumed performances. Reviewers of all ages consistently described the shows as "amazing," praising the high level of talent, as well as the special effects and overall atmosphere. Thanks to the stadium-style seating, many visitors said there's not a bad seat in the house (though some recommended booking a seat in the back half of the theater in the center section for the best view).

Titanic Museum Titanic Museum

When visitors enter the Titanic Museum, which is built to look like the actual ship, they're given a boarding pass with a real Titanic passenger's name on it. At the end of the self-guided tour – which winds through a recreated grand staircase and past more than 400 artifacts preserved from the sunken vessel – visitors will find out if the passenger on their ticket survived the infamous sinking. Visitors can also sit in a real lifeboat and dip their hands into 28-degree Fahrenheit water (the temperature of the ocean on that fateful night).

Recent visitors said the experience, though a bit pricey, was mostly worth the hefty admission fee. Parents, in particular, said their kids enjoyed the various interactive experiences. Though parents of younger kids advised it was a bit boring for little children. Most said the experience honored those lost and told the story of the Titanic. However, some wished there more artifacts from the actual ship on display.

The Butterfly Palace houses an exotic aviary with more than 1,000 butterflies representing as many as 60 species that live in the rainforest. Each visitor is given a filled nectar flower to entice the hungry butterflies; visitors will delight when a butterfly chooses them to roost and feed. The aviary has new butterflies emerging daily, so don't miss a butterfly release. In addition to the live butterflies, travelers can learn about the monarch's migration in 3D at the Rainforest Theater. Another resource for learning, the Living Rainforest Science Center features more than 25 reptiles and amphibians from the rainforest and offers live animal encounters. Meanwhile, the Banyan Tree Bungee Adventure and the Emerald Forest Mirror Maze are indoor active areas for all that navigate nature-inspired fun zones. The Butterfly Palace suggests wearing bright colors, especially red, if visitors want to attract butterflies to land on them. Additionally, the aviary is warm and humid year-round for the comfort of the butterflies, so it's important to dress in layers.

According to recent visitors, the aviary is relaxing (in part thanks to the tranquil music that plays in the background) and the butterflies are beautiful. Reviewers advised future visitors to call ahead and inquire when the newly emerged butterflies would be released for the day. Travelers also suggested watching the educational videos that play in the Rainforest Theater at the beginning of your visit so you can fully appreciate the butterflies.

Why come to branson during the “off season”.

branson mo tourist season

Tthe Hollywood Wax Museum is just one of the many year round attractions in Branson.

BRANSON, Mo. The question is often asked, “Why should I come to Branson during the off season?” Having lived in the Branson area for the major part of 25 years this writer feels safe in answering that question by saying, “For the same reason you’d come during the season, to have fun and enjoy a great Branson experience.”

The experience one will enjoy during the off season will be different from a couple of perspectives. First, the vast majority of Branson’s live shows will be closed during January and most of February, but great shows such as the Grand Jubilee, Hughes Brothers, and others will be available with more gradually opening in February and subsequent months.

In terms of attractions, although Branson’s biggest and most popular attraction the 1880’s theme park Silver Dollar City will be not open until March 15, the vast majority of Branson’s attractions are not weather dependent and will be open. These include attractions such as Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Hollywood Wax Museum, the Castle of Chaos, the Titanic Museum Attraction and many others. Regardless of the weather there will be an exciting fun filled activity for your family to share together that is only minutes away from wherever you are staying in Branson.

It is going to be a very special year at the Titanic Museum Attraction as they remember the 100th anniversary of the great ships sinking with many special events. In addition, they will host the 2012 National Ice Carving Association’s U.S. Nationals on February 4-5 with the carvers competing for an opportunity “to end up in the city of Sochi, Russia, the host city for the XXII Olympic Winter Games, in 2014.

From an outdoor perspective there is everything from trout fishing on Lake Taneycomo, bass fishing on Table Rock Lake, to walking, hiking, biking, seeing the eagles or experiencing the National Tiger Sanctuary. Have young children and want a great photo opportunity with them having a blast, then take them down to “Branson’s Unofficial Duck Feeding Area” at Scotty’s Dock and let them feed the ducks and geese that congregate there. Just a leisurely walk along the Branson Landing’s Boardwalk is a unique and wonderful experience to share together.

Speaking of Branson Landing brings to mind Branson’s fabulous shopping which is always in season. From Branson’s major Malls such as Tanger Outlets and Branson Landing to its specialty shops and shopping attractions such as “Dick’s 5 & 10,” Branson provides a shopping experience that is as unique as it is unparalleled and is never “out of season.” While avoiding the in season crowds you just might get some of the best values of the year.

Branson’s is noted for the variety, quality and value of its lodging. From lakeside condos and cabins to quaint B&Bs, resorts with inside water parks and many others, there is a lodging choice for every budget and need with many offering complimentary breakfast.

In Branson, fun, excitement, value and family are always in season. Branson’s off season offers an opportunity to enjoy these things without the pressures of crowds and traffic that are common during the season. “In season” or “out of season” Branson offers a unique unparalleled experience and great value and the opportunity to create memories that could last a life time.
