This week, we have the British Open Championship, with the PGA Tour-sanctioned major going back to the Home of Golf at St. Andrews. This is a venue the R&A uses every five years, and it is an absolutely special place -- but one that can be torn up by a player hitting their ball well and evading bad weather that is the true defense of the course.

2022 british open: betting odds for the top 20 pga tour players at st. andrews, share this article.

We’re closing in on the start of the 2022 Open Championship at the Old Course at St. Andrews, as the golf world settles in for one of the most anticipated major championships in recent memory. The Home of Golf hosting the 150th edition of the Open has excitement through the roof.

Tiger Woods has returned to the Old Course looking to capture his third Claret Jug at St. Andrews, but Rory McIlroy enters as the betting favorite .

With all the LIV defections, we decided to take a look at the betting odds for PGA Tour players, using the FedEx Cup standings as the base.

Scottie Scheffler (+1500)

2022 Open Championship

Scottie Scheffler didn’t have a win on the PGA Tour at the beginning of 2022. Now? He has four of them, including a major as well as a World Golf Championship title. The young Texan grabbed his first win at the WM Phoenix Open, then, two starts later, took home the title at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge. After slipping on the red cardigan, Scheffler took a trip to his home state for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He took down the match-play assassin, Kevin Kisner, in the championship for his third win in four outings. In his next start, Scheffler slipped on the green jacket. A decent stretch of golf for the 26-year-old. Scheffler lives in Dallas and thanks to his record-setting year, has topped $21 million on the golf course.

Sam Burns (+4000)

2022 Travelers Championship

During a season dominated by Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns has put together quite the résumé, including a playoff win over his best buddy (and world No. 1 Scheffler). Burns started his year on a great note, winning his first event of the new season at the Sanderson Farms. After a stretch of three straight missed cuts, the 25-year-old bounced back nicely once the Tour got to Florida. For his second win of the season, Burns went back-to-back at the Valspar Championship. Seven days after a top 20 at the PGA Championship, Burns took down Scheffler at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The Louisiana resident turned pro in 2017 and has earned over $14 million on the golf course.

Xander Schauffele (+1500)

2022 Genesis Scottish Open

Xander Schauffele hoists the trophy after winning the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. (Photo: Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Xander Schauffele’s last solo win on the PGA Tour entering this season came at the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Before going to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic, Schauffele had just one top 10 on the season. He and partner Patrick Cantlay won the team event that week, ending the drought. However, he was still waiting for his next solo victory. After four straight top 20s, Schauffele broke through at the Travelers Championship, winning by two shots. Then, just over a week later, the 28-year-old won the JP McManus Pro Am at Adare Manor. Later that week, the Olympic gold medalist added the Genesis Scottish Open to his résumé. A fantastic stretch of golf that included three trophies in 14 days. The Las Vegas resident has earned nearly $25 million on the golf course.

Rory McIlroy (+900)

2022 Travelers Championship

Rory McIlroy had an interesting start to the year. He struggled mightily at the Ryder Cup, but found something during his Sunday singles match and decided to enter the CJ Cup. The move paid off as he would go on to win in Vegas. A week after missing the cut at the Valero Texas Open, McIlroy rattled off a great stretch of golf — finishing 2nd at the Masters thanks to a Sunday 64, 5th at the Wells Fargo, 8th at the PGA Championship, a second straight win at the RBC Canadian Open, T-5 at the U.S. Open and a T-19 at the Travelers Championship. The four-time major winner continues to climb the PGA Tour’s all-time earnings list at more than $64 million.

Patrick Cantlay (+2000)

2022 Open Championship

Patrick Cantlay’s first win this season came at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Xander Schauffele. The 30-year-old Cantlay has finished inside the top 10 eight times, two of which are runner-ups (WM Phoenix Open and RBC Heritage). The Florida native continues to be the model of consistency missing just two cuts on the season compared to 10 top-20 finishes. Cantlay won the FedEx Cup in 2021.

Justin Thomas (+2000)

2022 Genesis Scottish Open

One of the highlights of Justin Thomas’ season came in May, when the 2017 PGA Championship winner came back from eight strokes behind in the final round to make a playoff in the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, where he beat Will Zalatoris by one stroke to capture his second major championship. The victory was the 15th of his PGA Tour career. Other career milestones include victories at the 2021 Players Championship and the 2019 BMW Championship. One of the best players from tee to green on the PGA Tour, Thomas is always a threat to strike in the biggest events.

Cameron Smith (+2000)

2022 Open Championship

Cameron Smith tees off the 3rd during a practice round ahead of the 150th Open at St Andrews Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. (Photo: Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Australian Cameron Smith got his calendar year off to a great start, winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. He shot an incredible 34 under, the most under par in a 72-hole event on the PGA Tour since 1950. Yet he wasn’t done yet winning big events, as he captured the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass two months later. Crazy weather with cooler temps and high winds caused havoc through the tournament, but Smith tamed the course and came out on top, shooting 13 under. He followed that performance up with a tie for third at the Masters. The 28-year-old has won more than $24 million during his career.

Hideki Matsuyama (+4000)

2022 Genesis Scottish Open

There aren’t many players who are stronger than Hideki Matsuyama when it comes to approaching the green. Look no further than his approach shot into the 18th green during the Sony Open in Hawaii. With an incredible 3 wood from the fairway, he hit his shot within 5 feet and made an eagle putt to shoot consecutive rounds of 63 on the weekend and capture his eighth PGA Tour title. Matsuyama also won earlier in the season at the ZOZO Championship. The 2021 Masters champion has also won two WGCs during his career and is one of the most consistent players week in and week out.

Max Homa (+5000)

2022 U.S. Open

Max Homa plays his shot from the 10th tee during the second round of the 2022 U.S. Open. (Photo: Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports)

Max Homa got off to a quick start to his season, capturing the season-opening Fortinet Championship in September. But that wouldn’t be the only time Homa found the winner’s circle this season. He won again at the Wells Fargo Championship, winning at 8 under with three rounds in the 60s. That week will be remembered for rainy conditions at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. Homa is consistent in all aspects of his game, and he has won four times during his PGA Tour career, including Tiger Woods’ event at the 2021 Genesis Invitational.

Will Zalatoris (+3000)

2022 Genesis Scottish Open

Will Zalatoris tees off the 4th during the first round of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. (Photo: Andrew Redington/Getty Images)

Will Zalatoris has come close to capturing his first major championship. Last season, it was a runner-up finish at the Masters. This year, Zalatoris lost in a three-hole playoff by one stroke to Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills, and a month later, he tied for second at the U.S. Open at the Country Club at Brookline. Zalatoris is one of the best ball strikers on Tour and dominates in Strokes Gained: Approach. His putting has been better during major championships, but during non-majors, it’s one facet of the game he has struggled with. Even with that, Zalatoris has still been one of the most consistent players week to week.

Matt Fitzpatrick (+2000)

2022 U.S. Open

Matt Fitzpatrick talks to NBC’s Mike Tirico after winning the 2022 U.S. Open. (Photo: Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports)

There have been doubters of Matt Fitzpatrick’s game, but it hasn’t stopped him from having a dominating season. He’s one of the top players on Tour in terms of total strokes gained per round. His driving distance has vastly improved, which is one of the reasons why he went on to capture his first major championship victory, claiming the title during the U.S. Open at The Country Club at Brookline. His cross-handed chipping also is a talking point, but he dominates around the greens, as well. The U.S. Open victory was the first PGA Tour win of Fitzpatrick’s career, and he also was in the final pairing at the PGA Championship.

Jordan Spieth (+1500)

2022 Open Championship

Jordan Spieth takes questions during his media session ahead of a practice round for the 150th Open at St. Andrews Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. (Photo: Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images)

Notoriously one of the best players on and around the greens, Jordan Spieth has continued his trend of thrilling moments between him and his caddie, Michael Greller, and incredible golf shots. Look no further than when he recorded two eagles during the final round of the RBC Heritage in April, helping him get into a playoff, where he topped Patrick Cantlay on the first playoff hole for his 13th career PGA Tour victory. Needing just a victory in the PGA Championship to complete the career grand slam, Spieth made the cut but finished T-34 at Southern Hills in his latest attempt to join one of the most exclusive clubs in the sport.

Jon Rahm (+1500)

2022 Open Championship

Jon Rahm is one of the best players in the world when it comes to Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, so it’s no surprise to see him enjoy as much success as he does. Rahm won in May at the Mexico Open at Vidanta, which marked his seventh PGA Tour title. Last season, Rahm was victorious in the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, capturing his first major championship. The season before, he won the Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship. Rahm had a stretch of 14 consecutive made cuts, dating from the Sentry Tournament of Champions to the Genesis Scottish Open.

Billy Horschel (+10000)

2022 U.S. Open

There has been no shortage of big wins for Billy Horschel during his career, and that has continued to be the case this season. He captured Jack Nicklaus’ event at Muirfield Village, winning the Memorial Tournament in May for his seventh PGA Tour title. The best season of his professional career, however, came during the 2013-14 campaign, when he got hot at the right time, winning twice in the playoffs—at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship—to capture the FedEx Cup title. Horschel is one of the strongest players on Tour in terms of total strokes gained per round.

Tom Hoge (+30000)

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2022

Tom Hoge accomplished something he had never done before in February by winning at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. It was the first career victory for Hoge, who shot a 63 in the first round and followed that up with rounds of 69-69-68 to clinch the title. He also finished second at The American Express in January. Hoge recorded a T-9 finish at the PGA Championship in May, which was his best finish ever in a major. He’s making his first start in the Open Championship at St. Andrews. From late May to July, Hoge missed five consecutive cuts.

Sungjae Im (+10000)

2022 Masters

The 24-year-old South Korean star is one of the game’s best at scrambling around the greens and has used the skill to produce impressive results this season — including a T-8 at the 2022 Masters. Im also started the 2021-22 season in style, winning his second PGA Tour event at the Shriners Children’s Open and it wasn’t close — Matthew Wolff placed second, but trailed Im by four strokes. In his first 20 starts of the year, Im finished in the top 25 a dozen times.

Cameron Young (+10000)

2022 Memorial Tournament

A native of Scarborough, New York, where his father, David, is director of golf at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, Young showed promise from an early age, becoming the youngest winner of the Carter Cup in 2011 as well as Metropolitan Golf Association Junior champion. He was named MGA Player of the Year in 2015, twice won the prestigious Ike, and claimed the Westchester Golf Association Amateur title, too. Using a booming driver, Young had a hot stretch in late spring with consecutive top-3 finishes at the RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship and the PGA Championship.

Viktor Hovland (+5000)

2022 Open Championship

With a laser-sharp iron game, the native of Oslo, Norway, has had a tremendous impact on the game as he approaches his 25 th birthday. Hovland, who played at Oklahoma State, posted top-10 finishes in the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship during a three-start stretch earlier this year. He won his third PGA Tour event to start the 2021-22 season, capturing the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba by four strokes.

Collin Morikawa (+3000)

2022 Open Championship

With two major victories and four PGA Tour wins in his first three full seasons as a pro, Morikawa has quickly become one of the sport’s most recognizable faces. In his first 14 events this season, Morikawa made the cut a dozen times and finished inside the top 10 seven times with a pair of runner-up finishes, at the CJ Cup and Genesis Invitational. Morikawa held a share of the 36-hole lead at last week’s U.S. Open and finished T-5. In his first two years on Tour, Morikawa finished second and then first in Strokes Gained: Approaching the Green.

J.T. Poston (+10000)

2022 John Deere Classic

After failing to make the cut in his first six starts of the 2021-22 season, something clicked with Poston, who captured his second PGA Tour victory at the John Deere Classic in July, topping Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo by three strokes. The Hickory, North Carolina, native played his college golf at Western Carolina and later moved to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. One of the keys to Poston’s success is a fitness regimen that helped him add 25 pounds of muscle.

The fourth and final major championship will be on the hallowed grounds of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, from July 20 to July 23. The Open Championship will feature the best in golf, as Cameron Smith aims to defend his 2022 Open Championship title.

As is customary for The Open Championship, also known as the British Open, the tournament will take place on a links course in the UK. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club doesn’t have the same prestige as St. Andrews, but it is a highly regarded golf course with Royal family connections from the 1800s.

The 151 st Open Championship is the first British Open at Royal Liverpool since Rory McIlroy’s memorable win in 2014. It was 17 years ago when Tiger Woods captured his third British Open title at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

The Royal Liverpool Golf Club will have a slightly different look from the last time the British Open was held. With more bunkers, tougher run-off areas, and a new par 3, golfers that played here nine years ago will have more to think about at the 151st Open 1 .

Let’s take a look at the latest British Open odds from golf betting sites and make our predictions as to who will win this prestigious PGA event.

How To Watch The 151st Open Championship

The time zone will present some challenges for some viewers in North America. The typical morning-to-afternoon window commonly seen in PGA Tour events isn’t possible as The Open is in the UK.

Nevertheless, the third and final round should be convenient for Eastern Standard Time viewers on the weekend. It is important to verify tee times before making your bets at online sportsbooks . You do not want to be too late.

NBC owns the rights to the 151st Open Championship. Note that these broadcast times are subject to change and are based on NBC’s British Open TV schedule in the US. All times are in Eastern Standard Time:

  • Thursday, July 20 Peacock/Golf Channel: 1:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, July 21 Peacock/Golf Channel: 1:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 22 NBC: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 23 NBC: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

2023 British Open Odds

The following British Open betting odds are courtesy of Bovada :

The 2014 Open Championship winner is the betting favorite to win the 2023 Open Championship. Despite not winning a major championship since 2014, McIlroy is favored to win at Bovada.

It was a memorable year for McIlroy. Along with The Open, McIlroy won the PGA Championship title in 2014. No one, including McIlroy, expected him to go this long without another major championship.

The second and third favorites are not surprising, as Scottie Scheffler has the second-best 2023 Open Championship odds at +800. Jon Rahm rounds out the Top 3 at Bovada with +1100 odds to win the 2023 British Open.

The British Open odds will shift as the tournament progresses. Ensure that you are monitoring the latest odds at the best live betting sites .

British Open Betting Favorites

Two golfers have separated themselves in the odds to win the 151st Open Championship. With their odds so close together, McIlroy and Scheffler can almost be considered co-favorites.

Rory McIlroy (+750)

It has been an incredibly frustrating seven years for McIlroy at major championships. However, his failures in majors haven’t prevented him from having success overall.

McIlroy won the FedExCup Championship in 2016, 2019, and 2022. He staged an incredible comeback to edge out Scheffler at the TOUR Championship for his third PGA season title 2 .

In his 16-year career, McIlroy has 23 career wins. Most recently, he won the CJ Cup in South Carolina this past October 3 . McIlroy has gone without a win longer than he’d like, but has been in top form as of late.

The Prodigy As has become common at Hoylake, another of the game’s greats triumphed in 2014, and Rory McIlroy is the most recent Royal Liverpool Champion. Can the Holywood hero become the first player to win two Opens at Hoylake? We’ll find out in just two weeks… 25/25 pic.twitter.com/k2rgEvazrM — The Open (@TheOpen) July 6, 2023

He’s scored Top 10 finishes in five straight events, with the Scottish Open currently pending. This includes T7 at the PGA Championship and second at the US Open last month 4 . McIlroy keeps getting closer to winning and comes into this event in his best form of the season.

Earlier in 2023, there wasn’t much consistency to McIlroy’s game, but the native of Northern Ireland is trending up. Heading into the British Open, McIlroy is first in driving distance and second in SG: Off The Tee on the PGA Tour 5 .

The wide-open links course at Royal Liverpool should play to his advantage off the tee. McIlroy, who hails from Northern Ireland, is obviously no stranger to playing in the UK and has won here before.

Bovada got it correct by installing McIlroy as the favorite to win the 2023 British Open.

Scottie Scheffler (+800)

Everything pointed to Scheffler winning the FedExCup last year. He had the lead going into the final tournament and just had to stay the course. Although, that didn’t happen, as Scheffler fell back and McIlroy seized the moment.

Nevertheless, Scheffler won the 2022 Masters and had a successful campaign in 2021-22. Currently, the 27-year-old native of Ridgewood, New Jersey, is ranked No. 1 in the world, according to the Official World Golf Ranking 6 .

Scheffler has won two tournaments this year. He doesn’t have a major championship, but captured the “fifth” major of the year at The Players Championship. Additionally, Scheffler won the WM Phoenix Open in Arizona on Super Bowl Weekend 7 .

Scottie Scheffler is back on top of the men’s Official World Golf Rankings after his victory at the Players Championship 🏆 pic.twitter.com/ruUqhegSHi — ESPN (@espn) March 12, 2023

Since winning The Players in March, Scheffler has remained in good form. He has finished in the Top 10 in 10 of his previous 11 events going into the Scottish Open. After finishing third in the U.S. Open, Scheffler was T4 at the Travelers Championship on June 25 8 .

Scheffler is first in SG: Off The Tee, as well as SG: Approach to Green and SG: Total. Where Scheffler has lacked this season has been his putting game. He is 131st and below the Tour average in SG: Putting 9 .

If Scheffler can get his stroke working on the greens at Hoylake, he will be tough to beat at The Open.

British Open Best Value Bet: Patrick Cantlay (+2500)

There are lots of golfers to bet on to win the British Open at Bovada. Finding the best value in the field is important for your British Open betting strategy .

We have circled Patrick Cantlay from the British Open odds as our top-value bet at +2500. Cantlay is in search of his first win of the 2022-23 season at Royal Liverpool.

The 31-year-old native of Long Beach, California, notched two wins last season. He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the BMW Championship last August. His best season was in 2020-21 when Cantlay added four PGA Tour titles to his mantle 10 .

Cantlay is one of the best players on the PGA Tour without a major championship win. He is typically involved in the final round of big events, but needs to learn how to get off to a hot start in majors in the first round.

Since February 19, Cantlay has finished in the Top 10 in seven of 12 tournaments. In the three 2023 PGA majors to date, he finished T14 at the Masters and U.S. Open, while a T9 effort at the PGA Championship in May was encouraging 11 .

Cantlay is heading to the UK first in total driving, birdie average per round, and going for the green. Additionally, he ranks fifth in SG: Total and SG: Off The Tee in the 2022-23 season. His putting has been much better than McIlroy and Scheffler, which is above the PGA average in 21st 12 .

This looks like our first bet of the 151st Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

British Open Best Longshot Bet: Denny McCarthy (+10000)

Denny McCarthy isn’t a household name. You won’t hear his name discussed much in the lead-up to the British Open. However, McCarthy has been a consistent operator recently.

With his Open Championship odds at +10000, this isn’t a bad option for a longshot bet. The 30-year-old from Rockville, Maryland, has been putting together some solid results over the last month.

McCarthy has quietly been one of the better performers on the PGA Tour. It might sound crazy. However, McCarthy has been playing confident golf since finishing P2 at the Memorial Tournament on June 4.

After a P2 finish at Muirfield Village Golf Club, McCarthy had a respectable showing at the U.S. Open. He left Los Angeles with a T20 finish and headed to the Travelers Championship feeling good.

DENNY MCCARTHY NEARLY HOLES IT FOR EAGLE AND A 59. pic.twitter.com/v5khll7MiY — Fore Play (@ForePlayPod) June 22, 2023

McCarthy finished T7 against a talented field, and then a T6 finish this past Sunday at the John Deere Classic. Since May 7, McCarthy has finished in the Top 10 in four of seven tournaments. He’s missed just one cut this season 13 .

As one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, McCarthy should have success on the greens at Royal Liverpool. In fact, McCarthy ranks third in SG: Putting and first in putts sank within 10 feet. Further, his SG: Total is in good order, with a 1.198 for 16th on the PGA Tour 14 .

At the very least, you should consider betting on McCarthy to make the cut. For a longshot bet, he’s worth considering at +10000 odds, too.

2023 British Open Prediction: Rory McIlroy (+750)

It has been a long time since McIlroy won a major championship. One of the best memories of McIlroy’s career was winning at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in 2014.

Wouldn’t it be the perfect scenario for McIlroy to return to Royal Liverpool and win the Claret Jug nine years later? That would be a special way for McIlroy to end the long major drought that he has experienced.

In his current form heading to Europe, you have to look at McIlroy and believe that he has a legitimate chance of winning. Currently, McIlroy is playing his best golf of the season.

McIlroy is locked in and going to a golf course where he should have plenty of confidence. There is a strong chance that the unexplainable losing skid ends for McIlroy at Hoylake.

Consider including McIlroy on your British Open betting card in the final major championship of 2023.

Brooks Koepka, PGA Championship

This year’s PGA Championship features plenty of compelling storylines, stemming from Tiger Woods’ return to Valhalla to whether or not Michael Block can replicate his success from Oak Hill a year ago.

World number one Scottie Scheffler enters as the odds-on favorite as he eyes his second straight major victory. This year’s PGA Championship comes only days after he and his wife Meredith gave birth to their first child.

Brooks Koepka , meanwhile, hopes to win his second straight Wanamaker Trophy. Should he do so, he would become the first player to repeat at a major championship since he won the 2018 and 2019 PGA Championships at Bellerive and Bethpage Black.

Then Rory McIlroy , fresh off his dominant victory at the Wells Fargo Championship, is looking for his third straight win and continue his success at Valhalla, where his last major triumph came in 2024.

Here are the current PGA Championship odds.

PGA Championship Odds:

Here are the current odds for players to win, provided by DraftKings:

  • Scottie Scheffler +400
  • Rory McIlroy +750
  • Brooks Koepka +1200
  • Xander Schauffele +1600
  • Jon Rahm +1600
  • Ludvig Åberg +1600
  • Collin Morikawa +2200
  • Bryson DeChambeau +2200
  • Max Homa +3000
  • Viktor Hovland +3500
  • Patrick Cantlay +3500
  • Joaquin Niemann +3500
  • Cameron Smith +3500
  • Wyndham Clark +4000
  • Tommy Fleetwood +4000
  • Justin Thomas +4000
  • Cameron Young +4000
  • Hideki Matsuyama +4500

Brooks Koepka, PGA Championship

PGA Championship Predictions

Out of all four major championships, the PGA Championship employs the strongest field every year. Every one of the top players on the PGA Tour will compete this week, as will 15 players from LIV Golf.

That makes it somewhat challenging to predict, but this golf course, stretched beyond 7,600 yards, requires both distance and accuracy off the tee.

Valhalla also replaced its bentgrass fairways with Zoysiagrass three years ago, making the course play faster and firmer, diminishing the actual width of the fairways. The club also removed the rough between the fairways and the fairway bunkers, creating a style not dissimilar to that of a British Links course—where drives that find the short grass could easily roll into the sand.

As such, we like players who have precision off the tee to succeed this week.

Another close call for Xander Schauffele

After racing out to a commanding lead at Quail Hollow, Xander Schauffele lost his mojo over the weekend, settling for a second-place finish behind McIlroy.

The former San Diego State Aztec has grown accustomed to second-place finishes. He has 14 runner-up finishes in his career, two of which have come in majors. Schauffele also has recorded 12 top-10 finishes in majors since his first major in 2017, when he tied for 5th at the U.S. Open .

Xander Schauffele, PGA Tour, Wells Fargo Championship

His game has no weaknesses, except for the ability to close the deal on a major stage.

Schauffele will be there in the end, except he will not have the Wanamaker Trophy in his grasp. Instead, he will record his 13th top-10 finish in a major, which DraftKings has at +150.

LIV Golf will have two players in the top 10

It would surprise nobody if Brooks Koepka went on to win his sixth major championship this week at Valhalla. He recently won at LIV Golf Singapore, where, before the tournament, he expressed his frustrations for his poor play at Augusta National .

Koepka will arrive in Louisville with a chip on his shoulder, a dangerous sentiment for the rest of the field. His game is rounding into shape, too, thanks to his ball-striking returning to top form over the past couple of weeks. As such, we like Koepka to finish in the top-5 at +330.

Joaquin Niemann, LIV Golf

But another LIV Golf star will finish in the top 10.

Joaquin Niemann, the 25-year-old from Santiago, Chile, will record his first top 10 in a major this week. He missed the cut at Oak Hill last year, but tied for 23rd at Southern Hills—his best finish at the PGA. But Niemann has proven himself as one of LIV Golf’s best players this season. That, coupled with his extraordinary ability to shape the ball off the tee, will have the Chilean in the top 10 at the end. DraftKings lists Niemann to finish in the top 10 at +300.

Justin Thomas contends on home turf

After a disastrous 2023 campaign, Justin Thomas has rebounded somewhat in 2024. Yes, he missed the cut at The Players and The Masters—his two biggest events to date—but Thomas has three top 10s so far this season, including a top 5 at the RBC Heritage.

After a solid first round at Quail Hollow, Thomas faded during the weekend, settling for a tie for 21st at the Wells Fargo Championship. But he ranks 11th on tour in strokes gained: tee to green.

With his re-discovered form and the hometown crowd cheering him on all week, Thomas will finish in the top 10 at +400 at Valhalla—his first top 10 finish in a major since he defeated Will Zalatoris in a playoff at Southern Hills in 2022.

Jordan Spieth falls short of Grand Slam in big way

Since tournament officials disqualified Jordan Spieth from the Genesis Invitational for signing an incorrect scorecard, his results have been poor at best.

He tied for 30th at Bay Hill, missed the cut at The Players and the Valspar, then bounced back with a top 10 at the Valero Texas Open. But the 15th hole did him in during the first round of The Masters, leading to another missed cut.

Jordan Spieth, PGA Tour, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Spieth also missed the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and failed to come close to contention at the RBC Heritage and Wells Fargo Championship.

Poor iron play has been the primary culprit of his struggles, but Spieth has not found many fairways either. He ranks 66th in driving accuracy percentage this season, finding the short grass only 64.64% of the time. Thus, we are avoiding Spieth this week, even though a win would have him complete the Grand Slam.

Tiger Woods makes the cut

Perhaps the biggest question of the week revolves around Tiger Woods and whether the 15-time major champion can replicate his success at Valhalla in 2000.

That year, Woods triumphed over Bob May in a showdown for the ages for his third straight major title.

The course has changed since then, but Valhalla's routing has primarily remained the same. Woods knows this golf course better than most, which will prove invaluable as the week progresses. But Woods’ ability to hit a golf ball around a major championship venue has never been a mystery—whether or not he can traverse the course itself is.

Tiger Woods, PGA Tour, 2024 PGA Championship

Valhalla does not have the severe undulations that Augusta National has, and Woods made it through 72 holes at this year’s Masters. As such, we believe Woods will battle to make the cut once again this week, knowing that this Kentucky track does not feature the extreme slopes and hills that others do.

Big Golf Course, Big Names, Big Storylines

Dottie Pepper of CBS Sports called Valhalla a “big test” on a conference call with media last week.

Going off that motif, we believe this big golf course will separate the best from the rest and produce a dramatic leaderboard filled with big names, thus creating big storylines once again.

Scottie Scheffler will contend once again. Since he tied for fourth at the PGA Championship in 2020, Scheffler has recorded seven top-10 finishes to go along with his two Green Jackets. He is too good of a player from tee to green to not consider him, despite the life-changing moment he experienced this past weekend.

The odds reflect that, too. Scheffler is +105 to finish in the top 10 and +400 to win, a preposterously low number.

Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, The Masters

Since changing to his mallet putter at Bay Hill, Scheffler has rattled off four wins in five starts and has a better chance than any to win again this week.

But Rory McIlroy has an excellent shot this week, too. He has won his last two starts, even though Scheffler sat on the sidelines for both. Yet, McIlroy won at Valhalla in 2014. He hits the ball a country mile, driving it better than anyone, a recipe for success on this golf course. He ranks first on the PGA Tour in total driving, which considers both distance and accuracy.

McIlroy will show up on this big course once more, with the question not being if he will contend, but whether or not he can break through again. The best bet for McIlroy is a top-5 finish at +175 since a top-10 does not yield a significant return at -110.

PGA Championship Longshot Winner

If you have watched the PGA Tour over the past two weeks, one name has quietly lurked on the front page of the leaderboard.

Thirty-one-year-old Byeong Hun An, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, tied for fourth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and then finished in solo third at Quail Hollow.

Byeong Hun An, PGA Tour, Wells Fargo Championship

Similar to McIlroy, An has a ton of power off the tee. He ranks fourth on tour in average driving distance and 16th in total driving. The Seoul, South Korea native is also 25th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy this season.

His short game is his weakness, an issue on any golf course. But An changed that narrative on Quail Hollow’s new greens last week. He ranked first among the field in strokes gained putting, despite ranking 91st on tour this season in that metric.

Perhaps he has discovered something with his flat stick, and if he continues to roll the rock well at Valhalla, An will contend. DraftKings currently has him at +5500 to win and +1100 to finish in the top 5. A top 10 result yields a +500 payout—any of those is worth a shot on a player who has recently caught some fire.

He also tied for 16th at Augusta National this year.

The five best bets to win this year’s PGA Championship

To identify PGA Championship contenders, we can combine current form with what we know about this year’s course, Valhalla in Louisville.

british tour odds

Predicting the PGA Championship winner is a much different beast than doing so for the Masters , considering that Augusta National hosts that tournament every year and thus has some extremely sticky course history (i.e., certain types of golfers seem to play well there every year). Because the PGA Championship is played on a different track each year, course history is generally thrown out the window, though this year’s host, Valhalla in Louisville, has hosted the tournament three times, most recently in 2014, and a number of golfers in this year’s field were among the participants 10 years ago.

So we’re left to rely a whole lot on current form, which has proved to be a good predictor for PGA Championship success. We’ll combine that with what we know about the course to try to identify a winner.

Here are a few aspects I’m considering:

  • The PGA Championship is the only major championship that does not extend invitations to amateur players, though 20 spots are set aside for PGA club professionals. Therefore, the tournament annually garners the highest strength-of-field rating as compiled by the Official World Golf Ranking. Though the PGA has produced some surprise winners in the past 15 years — Jimmy Walker, Jason Dufner and Y.E. Yang say hello — it has become increasingly unlikely that an unheralded player will topple the world’s greats.
  • As with all majors, the PGA Championship winner almost always enters in great form: 17 of the past 18 champions made the cut in their previous tournament, and the one exception — Brooks Koepka last year — plays on a LIV Golf circuit that does not have cut lines. Three of those 18 champions were coming off a win, nine finished in the top five in their previous outing (including Koepka last year), and all but two finished in the top 20 in their most recent event.
  • Of the past 20 PGA Championship winners, 15 had won a tournament in the same calendar year. Nineteen had at least three top-10 finishes, and all 20 had at least one top-20 finish in the same calendar year (although the PGA Championship used to fall later in the year, allowing for more time to accomplish such feats).
  • Five of the past six PGA Championship winners already had a major win on their résumés. The one who didn’t — Collin Morikawa in 2020 — has since won another major (the 2021 British Open).
  • This is another issue of small sample size, but in the four PGA Championships played in May since 2019, three of the winners also finished in the top 10 in that year’s Masters. (Phil Mickelson, the outlier in 2021, finished tied for 21st at Augusta that year.) This year’s Masters top 10: Scottie Scheffler, Ludvig Aberg, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Xander Schauffele, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris.

After some tinkering, Valhalla will play long — 151 yards longer than in 2014 and the third-longest course among PGA Tour venues this year. It also should be firm and fast, unless it rains a whole lot to take the starch out of the greens, as happened 10 years ago. The rough will be up, too. However, low scores were predominant the past two times Valhalla hosted the PGA Championship. In 2014, when Rory McIlroy won the tournament at 16 under par, there were 179 rounds below par, fourth most in tournament history, and 58 players finished under par, with 14 of them at least 10 under. In 2000, Tiger Woods and Bob May set what was then the PGA Championship stroke-play record at 18 under before Woods won in a playoff.

Valhalla, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus , also has a number of quirks ( some would say to its detriment ). The par-5 seventh hole features a split fairway, which allegedly rewards drives that choose the riskier left path. There’s also an elevated island green at the par-4 13th (island greens on par-4s are relatively rare) and a horseshoe-shaped green at the finishing hole.

In general, we’re looking for big hitters (McIlroy ranked second in driving distance when he won at Valhalla in 2014) and — considering the course’s length — players who are accurate with long irons on their second shots.

Here are a few bets worth considering at this year’s PGA Championship. All odds taken Wednesday morning from DraftKings Sportsbook .

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

We were on the world No. 1 to win the Masters , which he did, for a second time. Picking Scheffler to win a golf tournament kind of feels like cheating at this point — he followed up his win at Augusta with another one the next weekend and has won four of his past five starts, with the one miss a tie for second — but until someone takes him down, he needs your consideration, even at semi-ridiculous odds. The one caveat this week is that Scheffler’s wife just gave birth to their first child , so who knows where his mind is. Still, Scheffler doesn’t seem to get fazed by much.

Rory McIlroy (+750)

While Scheffler was on baby watch, McIlroy filled the void with two wins in three weeks, one in a team event with Shane Lowry and another when he shredded Quail Hollow’s back nine to race past Xander Schauffele on Sunday at the Wells Fargo. And now you’re telling me he gets to play an arguably easier course, and one at which he already has won? If Scheffler is the world’s best golfer at the moment, McIlroy is the one with the most momentum, and he has to be a consideration at Valhalla.

Brooks Koepka (+1600)

The defending tournament champion enters in fine form, having won the most recent LIV Golf event in Singapore earlier this month and tied for ninth in the tournament that preceded it. Koepka’s Grand Slam record is absurd: In 39 major championship appearances, he has five wins (three at the PGA), four second-place finishes and nine other top-10s. Koepka hits the ball a mile, and it’s hard not to like his chances this week.

Bryson DeChambeau (+2800)

DeChambeau no longer is cartoonishly muscle-bound, but he still has plenty of power off the tee — he leads LIV in driving distance — which should serve him well here. DeChambeau has finished in the top eight in three of the past six majors, including at this year’s Masters (at a course where he previously never played well), and he has four top-10s on the LIV circuit this season. Plus, his 2020 U.S. Open win was at Winged Foot , which might prove to be a favorable comp to Valhalla.

Max Homa (+3500)

Three of Homa’s six PGA Tour wins have come on long, upper-echelon courses (Quail Hollow, Riviera and Torrey Pines). And, thanks to a tie for 10th at last year’s British Open and a tie for third at this year’s Masters, he finally has shaken his reputation as a guy who never shows up at majors. Homa trailed just two players in strokes gained: approach on his way to a tie for eighth last weekend at the Wells Fargo, one of three top-eight performances over his past six tournaments.

Sepp Straka (+8000)

Straka isn’t the longest off the tee, but he’s one of the most accurate, which should serve him well if the rough is an issue at Valhalla. The Austrian with the Southern accent (he moved to Georgia at 14) has quietly been putting together a solid season, with top-16 finishes in five of his past six tournaments, and he’s becoming quite the big-game hunter in majors: He tied for seventh at last year’s PGA, tied for second at last year’s British Open and tied for 16th at this year’s Masters.

Taylor Pendrith (+18000)

Pendrith, who ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in driving distance, has had a weird year. He scored his first PGA Tour win at the Byron Nelson a few weeks ago — on a TPC Craig Ranch course that matches Valhalla in length — and has four other top-11 finishes, two of them at elite-field events (the Farmers Insurance Open in January and the Wells Fargo). But he also missed five of six cuts in one stretch, his hopes doomed by inaccuracy off the tee and grim approach play. If the Canadian can show consistency, he could be worth a look down the odds board, or as a top-10 or top-20 play. Pendrith was never really in contention at the Wells Fargo — it was a two-man race between McIlroy and Schauffele — but he finished a respectable 10th, and there’s no reason for his odds this week to be the same neighborhood as those of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who probably have no shot.

As of Wednesday morning, here were the odds to win the PGA Championship of the leading contenders, according to DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Scottie Scheffler: +400
  • Rory McIlroy: +750
  • Xander Schauffele: +1400
  • Jon Rahm: +1600
  • Brooks Koepka: +1600
  • Ludvig Aberg: +2200
  • Bryson DeChambeau: +2800
  • Collin Morikawa: +3000
  • Max Homa: +3500
  • Joaquín Niemann: +3500
  • Wyndham Clark: +4000
  • Viktor Hovland: +4000
  • Patrick Cantlay: +4000
  • Cameron Smith: +4500

2021 british open odds: matchup picks and predictions, share this article.

british tour odds

The 149th British Open begins Thursday morning at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England. Golf fans and bettors will need to wake up early with the first tee shot being hit at 1:35 a.m. ET . Below, we look at the top 18- and 72-hole matchups for the 2021 British Open , with PGA Tour picks and predictions .

Jon Rahm , ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, will begin his quest for a second consecutive major at 4:58 a.m. ET. He’s paired with 2019 Champion Golfer of the Year  Shane Lowry and 2010 champ Louis Oosthuizen for the first two rounds.

Royal St. George’s last hosted the British Open in 2011, with Darren Clarke being crowned Champion Golfer of the Year. The venue measures just over 7,200 yards and plays to a par of 70.

Odds provided by  BetMGM ; access  USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds  for a full list.  Lines last updated Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Andy Sullivan vs. Richard Bland vs. Marcus Armitage (+210)

Get a piece of the action with the first group to tee off. Sullivan is the top-ranked golfer of the three in the Golfweek rankings and Bland was in contention through 54 holes at the 2021 US Open but ARMITAGE (+210) is the most recent winner in this group.

The 33-year-old claimed his first career European Tour win at the Porsche European Open in early June. He missed the cut at the 2018 British Open but received a boost of confidence ahead of his second attempt.

Lucas Glover (+120) vs. Byeong Hun An vs. Brandt Snedeker

GLOVER (+120) ended a 10-year winless drought with victory at last week’s John Deere Classic. It was against a weak field but it came at the right time ahead of his return to Royal St. George’s. The 2009 US Open champ tied for 12th at the 2011 British Open as the third-best major finish of his career. His familiarity will help in Round 1.

Brooks Koepka vs. Jason Kokrak (+200) vs. Garrick Higgo

KOKRAK (+200) is the top-ranked player in this group by the Golfweek rankings and he’s also second on the PGA Tour this season in Round 1 scoring average. He and Higgo can lean on their excellent putting with few having much meaningful experience at Royal St. George’s, but Kokrak has the edge in both driver and iron play.

2021 British Open tournament matchups (72 holes)

Collin morikawa vs. patrick cantlay (-110).

Morikawa and Cantlay are evenly priced in this tournament matchup, but Cantlay is +3000 to win while Morikawa is just +3300. Trust those outright odds (which typically receive much more action) and take the value with CANTLAY (-110) .

Dustin Johnson (-115) vs. Bryson DeChambeau

JOHNSON (-115) tied for second at the 2011 British Open as the top result of any true contender in this year’s field. He also moved back to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking despite not playing last week. DeChambeau has two missed cuts and a T-51 finish in three appearances at the British Open.

Viktor Hovland vs. Louis Oosthuizen (+100)

Oosthuizen, the 2010 Open champion, is an even-money underdog against Hovland, who’s making his first British Open appearance. Back the experienced OOSTHUIZEN (+100) , especially off of back-to-back runner-up finishes at the PGA Championship and US Open.

Brooks Koepka Undervalued, Ludvig Aberg Overvalued in PGA Championship Odds

Brian giuffra | may 6, 2024.

Brooks Koepka.

The golf season's second major is two weeks away and we’re already seeing some interesting odds movement ahead of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club on May 16-19.

PGA Tour rookie Ludvig Aberg has shot up the odds board this year and somehow has shorter odds than multiple major champions who are playing as well, if not better than him currently.

One of those players is reigning PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka. A three-time winner of this event coming off an impressive performance that led to victory on the LIV Tour, Koepka is somehow sitting behind Aberg in odds to win, which seems insane considering his form and history at this event. But here we are.

Koepka is currently the fifth-betting favorite with odds of +1600 at FanDuel Sportsbook to hoist his fourth Wanamaker Trophy.

Aberg is +1500 at FanDuel to win the title. That’s tied with two-time major champion Jon Rahm for the third-shortest odds. Only Scottie Scheffler (+400) and Rory McIlroy (+1100) have shorter odds at FanDuel than Aberg.

Directly behind Aberg in the FanDuel odds are Xander Schauffele (+2100), Wyndham Clark (+2400), Collin Morikawa (+2900), and Cameron Smith (+2900), among others. Clark, Morikawa and Smith have all won majors and Schauffele has three-times more top fives in majors (6) than Aberg has appearances.

This is Aberg's second major championship appearance and first PGA Championship. Since its inception in 1916, only nine players have won the PGA Championship in their first appearance. Morikawa was the most recent in 2020. Before that it was Keegan Bradley in 2011 and Shaun Micheel in 2003.

Not impossible, but not likely either.

Aberg finished second at the Masters and T-10 at the RBC Heritage the week after. He’s playing in the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo this week and his performance will be worth monitoring. Those odds still seem high given his lack of experience playing in majors.

Koepka, meanwhile, has rounded into form after a disappointing T-45 finish at the Masters. He admitted he felt “embarrassed” by his performance at Augusta and has a greater focus since, which has led to better results on LIV.

He won the LIV Golf tournament in Singapore this past weekend and shot a three-round 14-under to finish 10th in Australia the week before. His putter was on fire in Singapore and he continues to be one of the best ball strikers in the game.

Koepka won back-to-back PGA Championships in 2018-2019. He also won back-to-back U.S. Open titles in 2017-2018. Clearly, he knows how to string together major wins in the same event.

While he hasn’t played well at the most recent two majors (T-64 at the British Open last year to go along with his T-45 at Augusta), putting Koepka behind Aberg in the odds seems wild. Even DraftKings having Koepka and Aberg tied at +1600 is surprising.

Aberg has proven he can play with the most elite players in the world. But he’s yet to prove he can beat them. His lone PGA Tour win was a fall event last year where the top competitor was Mackenzie Hughes at four strokes behind him.

Not exactly a pressure-packed moment.

Aberg faced that pressure at Augusta on the back nine Sunday and pulled his approach shot into the water on 11 and made a double bogey. He rebounded with two birdies on 13 and 14, but he was so far behind Scheffler at that point there the pressure was gone.

This is not to say Aberg won’t contend at the PGA Championship or win a major in the future, maybe even this year. This is more of a note on the odds being off based on experience and historical performance.

Koepka should be ahead of Aberg in the odds, not behind or tied with him. That’s a bet worth considering.

Taylor swift’s ‘eras tour’ could be worth almost $1 billion to british economy.

Taylor Swift’s smash-hit “ Eras Tour ” is set to boost spending in the United Kingdom by nearly $1 billion, according to estimates by Barclays.

The British bank said in a report Wednesday that it expects nearly 1.2 million Swifties to attend the superstar’s shows in the UK this summer, with the typical fan expected to spend £642 ($810) on travel, accommodation and other expenses — injecting a total of £755 million ($953 million) into the economy.

It is just the latest example of “ Swiftonomics ” — the musician’s ability to influence the economies of the cities and countries that she visits on her mammoth global tour, which kicked off in March last year in the United States.

Fans are likely to fork out £121 ($153) for accommodation, £111 ($140) for travel and £59 ($74) in restaurants around the venues, according to Barclays, which based its estimates on customer transaction data and proprietary consumer research.

Swift will perform 15 shows across four UK cities in England, Wales and Scotland in June and August. The concerts sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale, with fans spending £206 ($260) on average on a single ticket, Barclays said.

Including the ticket price, UK concertgoers will spend, on average, £848 ($1,068) each, which is more than 12 times the average cost of a night out in the UK, according to Barclays’ research.

While the price tag may seem hefty, it’s much less than many Americans will pay to see the “Eras Tour” back home. And it is well worth it for Swifties, says Dr Peter Brooks, chief behavioral scientist at Barclays.

“When it comes to cultural icons like Taylor Swift — like we saw with Elvis and Beatlemania in the 50s and 60s — supporters have such a strong connection to the artist and to the rest of the fandom that the desire to spend becomes even more powerful,” Brooks wrote in the report.

“For ‘Eras Tour’ ticketholders, every pound they spend is an investment in the memories they’ll create,” he added.

Many Swifties are prepared to go to even greater lengths to see their idol live. Almost a fifth of Swift’s fans in the UK who responded to a survey commissioned by Barclays last month said they planned to travel to mainland Europe to see the singer perform.

That’s “possibly due to ticket availability, cheaper travel and accommodation costs, or simply so that (fans) can combine the concert with (a) holiday or city break,” the bank wrote in its report.

The European leg of the “Eras Tour” includes concerts in Sweden, Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria this year.

Some of Swift’s American fans are also choosing to travel overseas to see her perform. Even with flights and accommodation expenses factored in, the overall cost of attending one of Swift’s shows in Europe is often lower than in the United States, where ticket prices are much higher.

2024 PGA Championship odds, predictions, golf picks: Tiger Woods projection by model that nailed the Masters

Tiger woods, an 82-time pga tour winner, is expected to be part of the 2024 pga championship field at valhalla golf club.

tiger.jpg

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will try to follow up his four-stroke victory in the Masters with a win in the 2024 PGA Championship. Scheffler has finished in the top 10 in three of his four appearances at this event and is the 3-1 favorite in the 2024 PGA Championship odds, sitting ahead of Rory McIlroy (6-1) and Brooks Koepka (10-1). Tiger Woods gets set for his first appearance since the Masters, but is a 125-1 longshot in the 2024 PGA Championship field. Woods has won this tournament four times, but his last victory came in 2007.

The 15-time major champion leads all active golfers in career major wins and career PGA Tour wins, so he could still be considered for your 2024 PGA Championship predictions. Before locking in your 2024 PGA Championship picks or Tiger Woods props, be sure to  see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up almost $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the PGA Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 PGA Championship predictions

One major surprise: Justin Thomas, a 40-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Thomas, a two-time major winner, won both at the PGA Championship. Most recently, Thomas defeated Will Zalatoris in a playoff to win the 2022 PGA Championship and also won in 2017. After a rough 2023 season, Thomas' putter has helped him perform better this year, ranking eighth in birdie average and 11th in putting average.

Comparatively, Thomas was 46th in birdie average and 122nd in putting average last season. Thomas was once one of the most dominant golfers in the sport, winning 12 PGA Tour events from 2016 to 2020, but his last victory came at the 2022 PGA Championship. There are signs this season of a turnaround for Thomas and at 40-1 to capture another PGA Championship, the model sees value in his PGA Championship odds 2024.

The model has also examined where Tiger Woods finishes. The 48-year-old is playing a limited schedule at this stage of his career, primarily playing in the major tournaments. He set a Masters record with his 24th consecutive made cut in April, breaking a tie with Fred Couples and Gary Player.

However, Woods finished last among golfers who made the cut, with his 16-over 304 being the worst 72-hole total of his career. He won the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla, but he missed the cut after battling a back injury when the event returned in 2014. The 82-time PGA Tour winner can never be overlooked when he steps on the course, regardless of his current form or health issues.  The model just locked in its Tiger Woods PGA Championship picks here. .

How to make 2024 PGA Championship picks

The model is also targeting four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 PGA Championship, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the PGA Championship 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected PGA Championship leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 11 golf majors, including the last three Masters .
