Compared to yesteryears, India now has a range of well-connected highways which are well made and are quite fun and relaxed to drive on. For driving on such highways, the feature of cruise control surely comes handy, which not only reduces driving effort, but also enhances the fuel efficiency of vehicles by a subtle margin. Following is the list of ten most affordable cars which are available with cruise control in India:

Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the most affordable car in the Indian market right now to feature cruise control. The said feature was introduced in the Swift in the current facelifted version of the third generation model, and is available only in the top-spec ZXI+ variant. This variant comes standard with a 1.2-liter petrol engine (90 PS/113 Nm), which can be had either with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Like its heavily redesigned hatchback version, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire too gets a cruise control in its top ZXI+ variant. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire received cruise control when the current third generation model received a makeover in 2020 with a new front fascia, new engine and other more features. The ZXI+ variant of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a 1.2-liter petrol engine (90 PS/113 Nm) as its standard powertrain, which is available with both the options of a 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT.

Honda Amaze

The second generation Honda Amaze has been a runaway success for the Japanese car maker in India, with the sedan receiving a much more upmarket design and list of features in and out. This new generation model, along with many other features, received cruise control in its highest VX variant, which is available with both 1.2-liter petrol engine (90 PS/110 Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (100 PS/200 Nm). This VX variant can be had with only a 5-speed manual gearbox, with the CVT gearbox options restricted to lower variants and not this.

Hyundai Aura

Hyundai replaced the aging Xcent model in its Indian lineup with the new Aura sedan, which is essentially a three-box version of its Grand i10 Nios hatchback. The sedan features a design which draws polarized opinions. The Hyundai Aura comes with a cruise control, and while there are many variants present in the overall lineup of the sedan, only the top-spec SX (O) variant of the petrol-manual variant gets this feature. The powertrain combination in this very variant is a 1.2-liter petrol engine (83 PS/113 Nm) coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The variant is also available with a diesel engine, but sadly, the this variant doesn’t get cruise control.

Hyundai i20

While the previous generation Hyundai i20 was already a heavily loaded car, the new third generation model of the car surpassed that one even higher with new additional premium features, including that of cruise control. The cruise control is available in Hyundai i20 in only the range topping Asta (O) variant, which is offered with a 1.2-liter petrol engine (83 PS/113 Nm) with a 5-speed manual, 1.5-liter diesel engine (100 PS/240 Nm) with a 6-speed manual and a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine (120 PS/172 Nm) with 7-speed DCT.

Tata Altroz

Unlike other compact cars, the stylish and safest hatchback of India, the Tata Altorz, comes with cruise control in multiple variants, and not just the top-end variant only. The XT, XZ and XZ+ variants of the Tata Altroz come fitted with cruise control as standard. All these variants come with three engine options to choose from – a 1.2-liter petrol (86 PS/113 Nm), a 1.2-liter turbo petrol (110 PS/140 Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel (90 PS/200 Nm), all of which are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the most affordable model in the premium compact sedan segment to feature cruise control. The cruise control is equipped in the Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, all of which are powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine (105 PS/138 Nm), which is the standard powertrain across the range. All these variants are available with the choices of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza , despite not having multiple powertrain options like its rivals, is the segment leader of sub compact SUVs in India. The Vitara Brezza comes with a decent equipment list, which might not be the best in its segment, but does cover all the essentials, including cruise control. The ZXI and ZXI+ variants of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza come equipped with cruise control, with these variants powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine from the Ciaz (105 PS/138 Nm). The gearbox options in both these variants are 5-speed manual and 4-speed AT.

Hyundai Venue

Being a feature loaded SUV in its segment, the Hyundai Venue also comes with cruise control in two of its variants, SX and SX (O). The Hyundai Venue comes with two engine options in these variants – 1.0-liter turbo petrol (120 PS/172 Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel (100 PS/240 Nm). The SX variant comes with the combinations of a petrol engine with 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT, and the diesel engine with 6-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the SX (O) variant comes with petrol-iMT and diesel-manual combinations.

Having a five star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, the Tata Nexon is the safest vehicle in this list, along with the Altroz which too secured the same rating. However, unlike the Altroz, the Tata Nexon comes with cruise control only in its range topping XZ+ (S) and XZ (O) variants. The engine options in these variants are 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine (120 PS/170 Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (110 PS/260 Nm), both of which are being offered with the gearbox options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT.

1. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a hatchback that offers cruise control in the Sportz and higher variants. It costs Rs. 7.28 lakh (ex-showroom) for the manual transmission and Rs. 7.85 lakh (ex-showroom) for the automatic. It gets a 1.2L petrol engine that puts out 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

2. Tata Punch Accomplished

The Tata Punch is a small SUV that comes with a cruise control feature in its Accomplished variant and higher variants. The manual variant with cruise control costs Rs. 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom) while the automatic variant costs Rs. 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Punch gets a 1.2L petrol engine delivering 88PS of power and 115Nm of torque.

3. Hyundai Aura SX

The Hyundai Aura is a sub-compact sedan that comes with cruise control from the SX variant onwards. The SX variant with cruise control costs Rs. 8.04 lakh (ex-showroom). This variant is available only with a manual transmission. The Hyundai Aura is powered by a 1.2L petrol engine that produces 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

4. Tata Altroz XT

The Tata Altroz is a premium hatchback that offers cruise control in its XT variant and higher trims. The Altroz XT costs Rs. 8.08 lakh for the petrol-manual version and it has a 1.2L engine with 88PS of power and 115Nm of torque at the crank. The Altroz XT diesel costs Rs. 9.35 lakh and makes 90PS of power and 200Nm of torque from its 1.5L diesel engine.

5. Hyundai Exter SX

The Hyundai Exter is a B1-segment SUV that comes with cruise control from the SX variant and higher. The Hyundai Exter SX petrol-manual variant costs Rs. 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom), while the SX automatic variant is priced at Rs. 8.77 lakh. The Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre normal petrol engine that puts out 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque.

6. Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXI Plus

The Swift is a very popular B1-segment hatchback from Maruti Suzuki that offers the convenience of cruise control. The car is available in both manual and automatic variants but it reserves the cruise control feature only for the top variant. The Swift ZXI petrol-manual costs Rs. 8.34 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 8.89 lakh. The Swift ZXI Plus gets a 1.2L normal petrol engine making 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque.

7. Hyundai i20 Sportz

The Hyundai i20 is a premium hatchback and it gets the cruise control feature in its Sportz and higher variants. This most affordable variant of the i20 with the cruise control costs Rs. 8.33 lakh with the normal petrol-manual powertrain while the normal petrol-automatic costs Rs. 9.38 lakh. It gets a 1.2L engine making 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque.

8. Nissan Magnite XV Premium

The Nissan Magnite is a B2-segment SUV, which gets normal petrol and turbo petrol engine options. The Magnite’s XV Premium variant gets the cruise control feature with both the engine options. It costs Rs. 8.59 lakh with the normal petrol-manual powertrain, Rs. 8.90 with the normal petrol-automatic powertrain, Rs. 9.72 lakh with the turbo petrol-manual and Rs. 10.66 lakh with the turbo petrol-automatic. The Magnite gets a 1.0L normal petrol engine delivering 72PS of power and 96Nm of torque. Its turbo-petrol engine produces 100PS of power with 160Nm of torque with the manual and 152Nm of torque with the CVT automatic transmission.

9. Honda Amaze VX

The Honda Amaze is a B2-segment sedan, which offers cruise control for a convenient driving experience on the highways and expressways. The Amaze also gets cruise control in its top-spec VX variant, which costs Rs. 8.89 lakh with the manual and Rs. 9.71 lakh with the automatic transmission. The 1.2L petrol engine of the Amaze makes 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque.

10. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire SXI

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZXI Plus is the most popular sedan in India and it too reserves the cruise control for the top variant only. The Dzire ZXI Plus variant offers this feature with the manual as well as automatic transmission for Rs. 8.84 lakh and Rs. 9.39 lakh, respectively. The Dzire’s 1.2L normal petrol engine makes 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque.

11. Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha

Similarly, the Maruti Suzuki Nexa Baleno Alpha gets cruise control in the Alpha variant. It retails for Rs. 9.33 lakh with the manual and Rs. 9.88 lakh with the automatic. The Baleno Alpha’s 1.2L normal petrol engine also delivers 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque.

12. Toyota Glanza V

The Toyota Glanza also shares its mechanical underpinnings and features with the Baleno and provides the cruise control feature with the manual for Rs. 9.63 lakh and with the automatic for Rs. 10.00 lakh. The Glanza V also makes 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque with the 1.2L normal petrol engine.

13. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Delta

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Delta is a C2-segment sedan and the only one under Rs. 10.0 lakh. Its Delta variant costs Rs. 9.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and offers the cruise control feature. The Ciaz Delta gets the 1.5L petrol engine delivering 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque.

14. Hyundai i20 N Line

The Hyundai i20 N Line is available with cruise control feature in all variants. However, only the N6 variant of the i20 N Line qualifies for this list with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 9.99 lakh. The i20 N Line is powered by 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. It is available with 2 transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic (DCT)

15. Renault Kiger RXZ

The Renault Kiger RXZ is a sub-compact SUV with the cruise control for under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). However, with the Kiger, you get cruise control only if you get the turbo petrol engine. The Kiger RXZ turbo petrol-manual costs Rs. 10.00 lakh but with the automatic, it breaches the Rs. 10.0 lakh criterion and costs Rs. 11.00 lakh. This particular trim with the cruise control feature gets a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine making 100PS of power and 160Nm of torque with the manual transmission. With the automatic, it makes a slightly lower, 152Nm of torque.

Many manufacturers are now focusing on making cars and SUVs safer for Indian car buyers. Be it through achieving a 5-star safety rating at Global NCAP or by providing safety features like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The latter has a suite of features like lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and more. Here’s a list of the 10 most affordable cars and SUVs that get ADAS at least on one trim.

1. Honda City 

Price: Rs 12.45 lakh-20.39 lakh

The most affordable car on this list is the recently facelifted Honda City. The fifth-gen City first got a camera-based ADAS suite with the launch of the City hybrid in May 2022. With the facelift, even the petrol version of the midsize sedan gets ADAS features on the V, VX and ZX trims. The City gets a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine good for 121hp and 145Nm, and is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the hybrid gets a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and two electric motors which produce 126hp (combined). While the facelift of the City didn't bring in many changes, and misses out on a few features, it gets the basics right and the ADAS will add to the appeal, for some.

2. Hyundai Verna 

Price: Rs 15.99 lakh-17.38 lakh

The Honda City narrowly beat the new Hyundai Verna in being the first midsize sedan to offer ADAS. The driver assistance suite, which is available on the SX (O) trim, works well and gives the driver sufficient leeway to intervene before the car does it itself. However, the steering wheel needs a gentle tug to let the car know that the driver has put their hands on the wheel. The Verna is powered by a 115hp, 144Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 160hp, 253Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The petrol engine gets ADAS with the CVT, whereas the turbo-petrol gets it with both the manual and dual-clutch automatic gearboxes.

3. MG Astor 

Price: Rs 17.00 lakh-18.59 lakh

The MG Astor is the only midsize SUV right now to offer the ADAS suite. MG offers it on the top-spec Savvy trim and it could be worth opting for as it could be a lifesaver in some scenarios. The Astor’s Savvy trim gets a 110hp, 144Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a CVT and a 140hp, 220Nm, 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine coupled with a 6-speed automatic. The Astor is a refined and comfortable midsize SUV, but its laid-back character won’t appeal to driving enthusiasts. 

4. Mahindra XUV700 

Price: Rs 20.56 lakh-26.18 lakh

Another vehicle that was first in its segment to get ADAS was the Mahindra XUV700. Like most cars on the list, even it gets its ADAS suite on the top-of-the-line AX7 trim. The only aspect of the ADAS system that needs fine-tuning is the lane-keep assist, but that aside, it is very commendable and revolutionary. The XUV700 is powered by a 200hp, 380Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 185hp, 420Nm (450Nm with the automatic), 2.0-litre diesel engine. Both are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. While there are some niggles like cheap bits in the interior, the XUV700 is easy to drive and live with. 

5. MG Hector 

Price: Rs 22.09 lakh-22.94 lakh

Recently facelifted, the MG Hector and Hector Plus get the ADAS system on the top-spec Savvy Pro trim. The ADAS suite managed to keep the SUV well within the lane while maintaining a safe distance from the car in front. It only disengages when we encountered a poorly marked stretch of road. The Hector and Hector Plus are powered by a 143hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. It is a spacious and comfortable SUV, and feels more premium now with more gizmos.

6. Tata Harrier 

Price: Rs 23.62 lakh-24.07 lakh

The Tata Harrier is the latest SUV in its segment to get the ADAS suite. However, Tata’s flagship SUV is due to get a facelift by October 2023. It got this driver assistance tech – available only on the top XZA+ O trim – with an update earlier this year that also brought in Tata’s new 10.25-inch touchscreen. Under the hood, the Harrier gets a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of 170hp and 350Nm of torque. While it also gets an option of a 6-speed manual, the ADAS system is only available with the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

7. Tata Safari 

Price: Rs 24.46 lakh-25.01 lakh

Like the Harrier, the Safari also gets ADAS only on the XZA+ O trim and is due to get a facelift by October 2023. It is expected to borrow design cues from the Safari EV showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The Safari is powered by the same 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Harrier, with the ADAS being available only on the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

8. Toyota Innova Hycross 

Price: Rs 29.99 lakh

The first Toyota to get ADAS in India is the Innova Hycross, and it's available only on the top-spec ZX (O) trim. Dubbed Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, it packs in many useful features like blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist. The latter isn’t very aggressive or intrusive, but most drivers would prefer leaving it turned off as it occasionally tends to intervene while tackling corners. The Hycross ZX (O) is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with a strong-hybrid system, and it produces 186hp (combined). Power is delivered to the front wheels via an e-CVT gearbox. The hybrid feels smooth, quick and responsive, and its monocoque construction improves its driving manners by a quantum leap.

9. Hyundai Tucson

Price: Rs 31.10 lakh-35.46 lakh

Similar to Toyota, the first Hyundai model to get the ADAS system is the Tucson and the brand says it has taken special care to calibrate it for Indian conditions. This prevents it from being distracting in typical Indian road conditions. The ADAS suite is available on the top-of-the-line Signature trim that is powered by a 156hp, 192Nm, 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 186hp, 416Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine. While both are available only with automatic gearboxes, the former gets a 6-speed unit, while the latter gets an 8-speeder. The Tucson is a well-sorted SUV that’s got its basics – space, comfort and strong powertrains – just right.

10. BYD Atto 3 

Price: Rs 33.99 lakh

The only EV in this list to feature ADAS is the BYD Atto 3, which the firm calls DiPilot. The SUV is equipped with a 60.48kWh battery pack that gets an ARAI-claimed range of 521km. The battery takes approximately 10 hours to charge using a 7kW AC charger, but that time drops drastically to 50 minutes (from 0-80 percent) when using an 80kWh DC fast charger. The Atto 3 is smooth to drive, comfortable to sit in and has a cool-looking, funky cabin. It isn’t for everybody though, but neither is standing out in a crowd, and BYD’s Atto 3 will clearly do that.

Why the MG ZS EV didn’t make the list

One would expect the MG ZS EV to be featured in this list since its ICE-powered counterpart, the Astor, does. Interestingly, while the ZS EV does not get the entire ADAS suite like the Astor, it does get rear-drive assist, which includes blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic assist.

Safety has been at the forefront in the automobiles, and various innovative technologies, be it passive or active, have witnessed significant development over the years. ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is such a cutting-edge technology, employing various sensors and cameras, aiming to reduce casualties, maintain control of the vehicle, and alert drivers of various hazards and potential accidents. Hence, most carmakers around the world have been integrating ADAS into their vehicles, especially mass-market cars, making this active safety feature more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

Kia Seltos facelift

The recently launched 2023 Kia Seltos facelift is one of the new cars in India to come with ADAS â€" Level 2 autonomy. The suit of its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems comprises 17 features, such as Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (car, pedestrian, cyclist, junction turning), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist. Notably, only the GTX+ and X-Line variants, priced at Rs 19.80 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (both introductory, ex-showroom), respectively, come with ADAS. There are available with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol DCT and 1.5-litre diesel six-speed automatic units.

While the MG ZS EV is available in India for a while, it was the only vehicle, except the Comet EV, in the line-up to miss out on ADAS. The Gloster, Hector, and Astor were already available with this active safety feature. However, the brand recently launched a new ADAS-equipped ZS EV Exclusive Pro variant at Rs 27.90 lakh (ex-showroom). These variants come with Level 2 ADAS features, such as forward collision warning, blind spot detection, traffic jam assist, lane change assist, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and speed assist systems.

The updated Honda City features ADAS technology in its V, VX and ZX trims. The prices of these variants range between Rs 12.48 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 16.08 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable ADAS-equipped vehicle available in the country. It features a Collasion Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keeping Assistant System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, and Lead Car Departure Notification System. Meanwhile, the City e:HEV hybrid also comes with ADAS tech.

Hyundai Verna

After the all-electric Ioniq 5 and new-gen Tucson, the all-new Hyundai Verna gets a suite of Level 2 ADAS is available in the SX (O) and SX (O) Turbo variants, with prices ranging between Rs 16.20 lakh and Rs 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom). Compared to the 2023 City, the new-gen Verna offers more advanced ADAS features, such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (Car, Cycle, Pedestrian, Junction Turning), Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control With Stop & Go, Lane Following Assist, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Departure Warning.

MG's yet another car in the list to get ADAS is the Astor. The compact SUV comes with Level 2 autonomy. The Savvy trim of the Astor comes fitted with a range of ADAS functions, while customers can also choose a few features for sharp trim as an optional extra. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking (Pedestrian), Information Mode, Intelligent Mode, Manual Mode, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Headlamp Control. Notably, it is priced between Rs 17 lakh and 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra XUV700

The Mahindra XUV700 is the only SUV in the brand's range to feature ADAS in its top-spec AX7 variant. The carmaker has equipped it with eight ADAS features, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collison Warning, Smart Pilot Assist, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Lane Keep Assist. Prices of XUV700 AX7 start at Rs 20.56 lakh and go up to Rs 26.18 lakh (ex-showroom).

The XUV700 rival of MG, the Hector and Hector Plus, have also received the Level 2 ADAS function, which is available in the range-topping Savvy Pro variants. Its prices of the Hector Savvy Pro start at Rs 22.09 lakh (ex-showroom), while the prices of the Hector Plus Savvy Pro start at Rs 22.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The ADAS feature-list of Hector pair consist of Adaptive Cruise Control, Bend Cruise Assistance, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, Safe Distance Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking (Pedestrian), Intelligent Hydraulic Braking Assistance, Traffic Jam Assist, and Intelligent Headlamp Control.

Priced at Rs 34 lakh (ex-showroom), the BYD Atto 3 DiPilot ADAS system offers a wide range of active safety features. It comes fitted with features, such as Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Door Open Warning, Rear and Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go. Meanwhile, the EV gets a 60.48kWh battery, providing an ARAI-tested driving range of 521km. It supports 7kW AC and 80kW DC chargers.

Tata Harrier and Safari

At the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata revealed the updated Harrier and Safari, that got new features alongside ADAS suite. The ADAS in the Harrier and Safari, is available only in range-topping XZA+ (O), comprising High Beam Assist, Forward Collison Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Alert, Door Open Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Collison Warning. It does not get adaptive cruise control like other ADAS-equipped vehicles. While prices of the top-spec Safari XZA + (O) start from Rs 24.66 lakh, the prices of the Harrier XZA+ (O) 23.82 lakh (both ex-showroom).

Toyota Innova Hycross

The new-gen Innova Hycross is the first-ever Toyota to get ADAS, which comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beam, and Road Sign Assist, among others. The ZX (O) variant of the MPV gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and is only offered with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine paired with a strong-hybrid system with a combined power output of 186PS. This system is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. The price of the Innova Hycross ZX (O) is Rs 30.26 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Hyundai Exter is the company’s latest offering in the compact SUV space. This car is the cheapest on the list and rivals the Tata Punch. It boasts superior safety, advanced technology, and amazing performance. The South Korean car manufacturer looks to provide rugged looks in the rather bland and curvy designs in the segment, with its futuristic new design philosophy. The tall seating provides good visibility for the driver and is confidence boosting, its AMT transmission is amazingly configured, having no jerks while driving. The car contains the usual set of features, including a 8 inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and segment firsts, such as a dual camera dashcam and a voice enabled sunroof . The cruise control system is standard across 3 of the 5 trims available which only adds to the value of the car. The interior feels similar to the Aura and the Grand i10 NIOS, but it gets an all black color scheme. Even the steering wheel and dashboard design is similar to the Aura and Grand i10 NIOS. Overall, the car has a fresh design and offers quite a lot of features at the price point.

The Hyundai Aura is a compact sedan based on the Grand i10 NIOS and replaced the Hyundai Xcent . The car has a spacious cabin, and a good build quality. The Aura competes with the likes of the Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze , and other compact sedans in the segment. With ample space for all passengers, it is a great car to traverse in. It gets a reasonably powerful engine along with a great ground clearance and tons of features, which is expected from a Hyundai car. The cruise control it has is quite convenient and makes long rides a much enjoyable task.

Renault has a lot of features that it keeps standard across all variants, the same can be seen here as well, with some of the notable features being a PM 2.5 air filter, a digital driver’s display with drive mode skins, 3D surround sound powered by Arkamys, ambient lighting, and cruise control. The car has a respectable Global NCAP rating of 4 stars and has all the important features right from the base model.

Honda Amaze

Honda Amaze was originally based on the Brio hatchback, aptly named Brio Amaze. The Brio part was quickly lost when it received a facelift and was renamed to just Amaze. It contains all the bells and whistles you would expect a Honda car to have, also being one of the reasons why it is so loved by so many families. The Amaze rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire , Tata Tigor, and the Hyundai Aura. Due to its form factor, it is the perfect car for small families. It has ample space for all occupants and a good boot space as well. For long rides, the driver is aided by a cruise control system.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx was received well by both the fans and the media. The looks feel derived from the Grand Vitara but are quite distinctive when you have a closer look. It is comparatively smaller than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and aims to target the likes of Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and the Kia Seltos. The Nexon has an aggressive and striking design and is a no nonsense vehicle, providing impeccable safety to all of its passengers. Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar is one of India’s proper off-roaders, it is a vehicle built for real off-roading and it is quite obvious by its clearly obvious design. Based on the original Jeep, the pre facelift Thar was lauded for its capability in the off road environment, however, its performance in city driving and the comfort it offered left a lot to desire for. These all issues were amazingly eliminated after the launch of the current version. The Thar’s interior was greatly revamped, and it also got an option for a proper hardtop roof. It has quite a few redeeming qualities, such as its smaller structure, lighter weight, and competitive pricing. The car comes in just one engine option, the 1.5 L petrol engine, however, there are rumors of it getting a turbo and the hybrid power system somewhere down its lifecycle. In recent times, there has been a rise in cars with cruise control feature. This feature is very useful for long drives, suited for speed conscious drivers and enables to keep the foot closer to the brake pedal for reduced stopping distance. There are numerous vehicles with cruise control feature in India, but here we have listed the most affordable cars that have cruise control.

1. Tata Altroz

Crowned as the safest hatchback in India, Tata Altroz is also the most affordable car in India to get Cruise Control. The XT and other top-end variants of Altroz are equipped with it. Altroz is a premium hatchback from Tata Motors in India. It is powered by a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated or turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both are BS6 compliant and are mated with 5-speed manual gearbox. The feature equipped variant starts at Rs. 7.13 Lakh.

2. Nissan Magnite

The next car offering cruise control is the latest car from Nissan, the Magnite. It is powered by a 1.0 litre naturally aspirated/turbo-petrol engine with the former having only a 5-speed manual gearbox, whereas the latter gets the choice of either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The XV Premium and variants above it get cruise control and prices for these start from Rs. 7.68 Lakh.

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The latest 2021 update to Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback Swift has introduced cruise control to the model range. Four variants provide this feature and the prices start from Rs. 7.77 Lakh. Maruti has equipped the latest Swift with a 1.2 Litre DualJet Petrol engine which also powers the Dzire Facelift. The engine has the same 5-speed manual or AMT options as before.

4. Hyundai Aura

The Hyundai Aura has only one variant that offers Cruise control and that is the ‘SX Option’ petrol variant. Price for the model is Rs. 7.93 Lakh. It is powered by a 1197cc engine with manual transmission producing 81.86bhp and 113.7nm torque.

5. Honda Amaze

The latest model of Honda Amaze offers Cruise Control with a host of other features. It is available in a 1.2 Litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine, both paired with 5-speed manual transmission along with optional CVT. The pricing for the variants starts at Rs. 8.10 Lakh.

6. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Another Maruti Suzuki on the list that offers Cruise control is the latest iteration of Dzire, its sub-compact sedan. It comes with a 1.2-litre DualJet engine producing 90PS and 113Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and gets the choice of a 5-speed AMT as well. It is the first engine offering an idle start-stop function in the segment, which makes it more efficient.

7. Volkswagen Polo

The Germans aren’t that behind. The Volkswagen Polo comes with Cruise control in four variants and the price starts at Rs. 8.34 Lakh. It comes with 1.0 litre naturally aspirated/turbo petrol engines in which the naturally aspirated engine is paired with 5-speed manual transmission and the latter can be paired with either 6-speed Manual or 6-speed Automatic Transmission.

8. Volkswagen Vento

The Volkswagen Vento also gets cruise control. Three variants offer the feature and prices start at Rs. 8.69 Lakh. The Vento comes with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 110PS power and 175Nm torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a six-speed AT gearbox.

9. Hyundai i20

The latest version of Hyundai i20 one of the few Hyundai cars to get cruise control in India. It provides the feature in two variants of the model. The variants are petrol-only and come with manual transmission. The price of these models starts at Rs. 9.19 Lakh. You can book a test drive or order the model via Hyundai India’s official website .

10. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

The Last Model on the list offering cruise control is the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. In its Delta and Zeta variants priced at Rs. 9.60 Lakh and Rs. 9.95 Lakh respectively, this feature is offered. It is powered by a new BS6 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech (same as Vitara Brezza) that makes 105PS and 138Nm torque. This engine is paired to 5-speed manual gearbox. It is also the most expensive vehicle on our list to get cruise control.

Adaptive cruise control or ACC is often touted as one of the building blocks of autonomous driving. What is Adaptive Cruise Control?

The Adaptive Cruise Control is an advanced driver assistance system that automatically controls the vehicle's speed when the cars in the front slow down.

This assistance feature aims to maintain a safe distance. And when the route is clear ahead, the ACC will accelerate to your pre-determined speed level. The adaptive cruise control feature is a significant feature for highway driving.

The adaptive cruise control feature is an essential component of fully autonomous vehicles. It is the foundation of autonomous driving. This feature has the capability of decreasing control burdens on driving.

The array of new car launches equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) has brought in adaptive cruise control (ACC) in many cars. While cruise control isn't a new feature, adaptive cruise control is relatively new for the Indian market. Here's all you need to know about this technology.

What is cruise control?

Cruise control is a feature that lets you set a particular speed for your car and as the name suggests — 'cruise'. One doesn't need to use the throttle or accelerator to keep the car going at the set speed. This system controls and brings in some amount of automation in driving a car at a particular speed.

What is adaptive cruise control?

Further to the aforementioned automation, adaptive cruise control is a step up to add more modernisation to this tech. All cars equipped with ADAS most certainly get adaptive cruise control. In this case, once a speed is set, the car will continue to be controlled by this system but will move according to the surrounding traffic speed. That is, if the car in front of you is moving at a speed of 40kmph, adaptive cruise control will maintain a safe distance from that car and keep the speed of your car in accordance with it. The added advantage is that automatic braking will slow down/stop the car without the driver having to intervene till asked to do so by the system.

How do cruise control and adaptive cruise control work?

The cruise control system uses an actuator to control the throttle input and maintain a pre-set speed. This same servomechanism is used in adaptive cruise control too but with the application of brakes through ADAS. In a way, it mimics the way human drivers accelerate and brake in traffic and coast on a highway.

How to use cruise control?

Usually, there are buttons either on the steering wheel or on the stalks behind the steering wheel to set, reset, increase, and decrease the speed of the car. Some cars may have the activation button on the dashboard. Nonetheless, the function is the same, that is, to activate/deactivate it. You can adjust the required speed using buttons '+/-', fix it using 'SET', and cancel with 'CANCEL'. In cars with cruise control, the system's control is anyway cancelled with the application of brakes. Additionally, with 'RESET', the last memory of the set speed can be recalled. Once the process is set, the driver can leave the throttle and just focus on the steering and braking inputs as the car accelerates on its own and cruises at the set speed.

When to use cruise control?

Dual-carriage highways are the most recommended places to use this feature citing safety concerns. But with adaptive cruise control, its applications are even in traffic, making a car a semi-autonomous vehicle with ADAS. But the ideal place remains to be a highway where the driver has to otherwise constantly press the accelerator pedal to cruise at a constant speed. Cruise control will eliminate the need to pin the throttle for this period. Do note, the driver's reaction time to respond to unexpected changes in driving conditions and traffic also tends to reduce with cruise control doing its thing.

Cruise control cars in India

Earlier, only the higher-end cars used to have this feature but now we have cars priced below Rs. 10 lakh with cruise control. The prime examples are the Hyundai Nios and the Tata Punch. And this feature is not limited to the top-spec variants but has trickled down to lower mid-spec trims as well.

Speeding car hits another vehicle, flips over several times in Hyderabad

In a dramatic turn of events, a speeding car flipped over several times after it jumped a signal, hit a passing by car and lost control in Hyderabad's Secunderabad on Thursday.

CCTV footage showed that the car was speeding and did not stop after the signal turned red. It hit another car coming from the direction across and lost control before flipping over several times. The car was damaged badly but luckily nobody was seriously injured in the incident.
