Is there a bathroom on board?

Yes, there is a restroom on board that is cleaned and sanitized daily!

What time should we arrive?

Please plan to arrive no later than 20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure for boarding.

Is there parking available?

Yes! We have designated free parking for all of our customers.

Are we allowed to bring food?

Yes! Guests are more than welcome to bring their own snacks or light fare to bridge the lunch hour.

How do we get off at the beach?

For our island stops, we use a series of steps from the front of our boat to the sand. Typically, you can step right from the boat/steps to the sand. However, on occasion it may be up to ankle deep.

What should we wear?

Guests who wish to swim during their island stop should wear their bathing suits on board as there are no changing facilities at the island. Swimwear is strongly encouraged for all guests as the water is refreshing and crystal clear. Be sure to pack a towel for the ride back!

Is your vessel handicap accessible?

Unfortunately we are not handicap accessible at this time. Guests with limited mobility (i.e. walkers, canes) should call our office prior to booking. A good rule of thumb is if the limited mobility passenger is able to make it up 2-3 standard stairs with assistance. Our crew is always here to help and eager to share our memorable trip with all!

Discover The Pacific Coast With Us

Take your sense of wonder to new heights with our in-depth Pacific Coast itineraries. From the sun-soaked beaches of Southern California, to the rich green rainforests of British Columbia, you’ll experience a vacation like no other.

Featured Highlights

Iconic landmarks.

You’ll be wowed by spectacular landmarks on a West Coast cruise. Sail under San Francisco’s graceful Golden Gate Bridge and admire the city skyline in the distance, the Transamerica Pyramid, and Alcatraz brooding in the bay. In Victoria, Canada, admire the lavish chateau-style architecture of the legendary Empress Hotel. When you’re in Astoria, check out the intricate Astoria Column, towering 125 feet, its elaborate artwork telling the story of westward exploration.

Exciting Wildlife

There’s wildlife to spot all the way along the Pacific coast—including the unexpected. Catalina Island, for example, has its own herd of bison, descendents of a herd brought over in the 1920s. Foxes and bald eagles inhabit Catalina, too. Vancouver Island is known for its spectacular whale watching, including orca, minke whales, and humpbacks. You could even see humpbacks breaching in San Francisco Bay. Astoria, meanwhile, is a great place to spot sea lions basking along the waterfront.

Fine Food & Wine

Culinary adventures await in every port along the Pacific coast. From San Francisco, head over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sonoma County for a wine-tasting tour. In the city, you’ll find authentic dim sum in bustling Chinatown. Astoria is famed for its salmon, artisan cheeses, and hazelnut ice cream. Try craft beers and those famous Oregon wines. In Vancouver, foodies will love Granville Island’s Public Market, where anything from organic coffee to Mexican street food is on offer.

Top Pacific Coastal FAQs

Where do Pacific Coastal cruises go?

Pacific Coastal cruises sail either between Los Angeles and Vancouver, Canada, or round trip from Los Angeles.

Ports between Los Angeles and Vancouver include Catalina Island, San Francisco, and Victoria, on Vancouver Island. A southbound itinerary visits Seattle, Astoria, and San Francisco. Both of these itineraries include days at sea to enjoy the ship.

Round-trip Los Angeles cruises visit Catalina Island, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, San Diego, and Ensenada in Mexico.

Where do cruises depart from on the West Coast?

Cruises depart from Los Angeles on one-way northbound voyages, ending in Vancouver, or from Vancouver on southbound voyages, ending in Los Angeles. Our Pacific Coastal itineraries sail round-trip from Los Angeles.

What should I pack?

What to pack depends on your itinerary. The Pacific Northwest can be cool and damp, so for visits to Victoria, Seattle, and Astoria, a light waterproof jacket is a good idea, as are comfortable shoes. Layers are the best strategy here as the weather can transform in an instant, especially in San Francisco, which is prone to fog that can melt away into the sunshine.

Bring a pair of binoculars as the marine life in the Northwest is spectacular and you stand a good chance of spotting whales and dolphins.

For itineraries that head further south, pack for the sunny climates of San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada. Catalina and Santa Barbara are great for hiking, so again, remember your walking shoes.

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through cover-ups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the theater. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features at least one to two “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

Are there any ports of call outside of the U.S.?

Yes, all of our Pacific Northwest itineraries include ports of call outside of the U.S.. You could visit Victoria and Vancouver in Canada or Ensenada in Mexico, depending on your itinerary.

When is the best time to cruise?

The best time to explore the West Coast is spring, summer, and fall, when the weather is generally good. In spring and fall, places like Los Angeles and San Diego are pleasant, rather than hot, and you should have ideal conditions for hiking, strolling around cities, and even sunbathing.

How long are cruises along the West Coast?

Our cruises along the West Coast last for either six or seven nights.

What types of landscapes and sights can I expect to see during the cruise?

On any Pacific Coastal cruise, you’ll see a wonderful combination of vibrant cities and beautiful landscapes.

San Francisco is famous for many things: the Golden Gate Bridge, vintage cable cars, Alcatraz, museums, and Fisherman’s Wharf. In Seattle, don’t miss the colorful Pike Place Market, or a trip up the Space Needle. Pretty Victoria is known for its colonial charm and the glorious colors of Butchart Gardens, while elegant Santa Barbara is famed for its whitewashed architecture, Mission Santa Barbara, and beautiful beaches. In San Diego, you could visit the impressive zoo, or explore the city’s culinary scene.

You’ll have a chance to be immersed in nature, too. Catalina Island has wonderful hiking, eco-adventures, boat tours, and even a chance to spot the herd of bison that lives wild here. Astoria, on the edge of the forested, misty Pacific Northwest, is a great place for cycling and hiking, as well as learning about the epic expedition of Lewis and Clark. In contrast, sunny Ensenada is the place to head for the beach or inland for hiking and wine tasting.

What kind of excursions can I book?

We offer a wide range of excursions to suit every taste. You can join a hike in Catalina Island or Ensenada and go cycling in Astoria. From San Francisco, you could take a tour to Sausalito and Muir Woods, or to Sonoma Wine Country for a tasting.

In San Diego, you can embark on a food tour of Little Italy or a night-time ghost tour. In Seattle, you could head out of town to sample wine in Washington State’s vineyards, or take a Grand City Tour by Land and Sea. Essentially, you will find a shore excursion to suit your tastes, whether your interest is history and architecture, wildlife, food and wine, or nature and activity.

How many days at sea will I have? What is there to do on board?

Our Pacific Coastal itineraries have either one or two days at sea, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the ship.

You’ll find a wonderful choice of activities during these sea days. Relax by the pool or join a workout class in the Fitness Center. Listen to live music or try a wine tasting. Sample delightful dishes from all the different restaurants on board, which range from poolside made-to-order burgers and salads to delicious sushi, contemporary Italian, and clean cuisine in Blu. On Celebrity Eclipse, lie back on the soft grass of the Lawn Club or challenge friends to a game of croquet. In the evenings, you’ll find glittering entertainment in The Theatre, as well as late-night dancing.

On any of our ships, elevate your experience at The Retreat® , which gives you suite accommodation and access to a luxurious lounge as well as the fine dining restaurant Luminae at The Retreat.

What is there to do on the ship?

You’ll find no shortage of things to do on board your luxurious Celebrity ship. Sunbathe by the pool, relax in a bubbling hot tub, join a class in the Fitness Center, or indulge in a treatment in the spa.

Enjoy exploring all the different dining options, from made-to-order burgers and salads by the pool to French classics and a delightful 3D cartoon animation in Le Petit Chef, and steaks and seafood in the elegant Tuscan Grille. Elevate your experience to The Retreat and you can enjoy fine dining in Luminae, as well as suite accommodation and access to an exclusive lounge.

On Edge-Series ships, the Magic Carpet, suspended over the side of the ship, gives you uninterrupted sea views and is the perfect place to sit with a coffee or cocktail, enjoying the sea air. Or spend part of your Panama Canal transit in the Sunset Bar, at the aft of the ship, for wonderful views of the ships following you.

Nicknamed “America’s Riviera,” Santa Barbara boasts whitewashed houses draped with bougainvillea, sapphire-blue water rolling up a rocky coast and palm-lined beaches. Even with all of that beauty, wine and whales may be the stars of this charming coastal city. Journey to the quaint Danish village of Solvang for wine tasting. Step aboard a high-speed catamaran and cruise out to the glistening waters of the Channel Islands to watch whales and dolphins frolic.

Seattle, Washington

Public Market Center sign with large clock.

At 110 years old, Seattle’s Pike Place Market is the country’s oldest continuously operated public farmers' market. It’s also home to the original Starbucks, where javaphiles toast to the legendary coffeehouse. Let your eye guide you to local art, and your nose to hole-in-the-wall eateries, along eclectic streets. Tour and sample the wines hidden away in the state’s most popular wineries’ private cellars.

U. S. Atlantic Coast Cruises

From Florida to Maine and beyond, a U.S. Atlantic Coast cruise is going to give you a great opportunity to discover America. On this cruise you can visit bustling cities like Miami and Boston, where there are unending attractions such as South Beach and the Freedom Trail. You’ll also make stops in smaller ports like Newport, Rhode Island – a cozy town on the water that was home to some of the U.S.’s most wealthy – and Bar Harbor, Maine – a quiet port with stunning scenery and home to Acadia National Park. These cruises may also go into Canada to visit idyllic towns with lots of greenery and lighthouses.

Things to Do on a Cruise to the US Atlantic Coast

As you cruise up or down the U.S. Atlantic Coast you’ll be visiting cities and towns with amazing attractions. Continue reading below for a selection of things to do that are sure to please everyone from the young to the young at heart:

US Atlantic Coast Breakers Mansion of Newport, Rhode Island

  • See the opulent Breakers, a mansion owned by the Vanderbilt family, when you visit Newport Rhode Island. This decadent summer “cottage” was the epitome of the American Dream at the turn of the century.
  • Roll up your pants and check out the beautiful sea glass at Sea Glass Beach in Hamilton, Bermuda. These colorful gems make for amazing photos and perfect souvenirs.

US Atlantic Coast Broadway in New York City

  • Spend an evening at a Sugar Shack. This is a house in Quebec where the sap from the maple trees is transformed into syrup. Here you’ll get a great meal and be entertained by local musicians
  • Experience all the razzle dazzle of Broadway when you visit New York City. You can catch a performance of a crowd-pleasing musical or go deep with a Tony-winning play.

US Atlantic Coast Beach chairs along South Beach, Miami

  • Lay out in the sun on Miami’s South Beach. This shoreline spot is a major draw for international visitors.
  • Think you’re pretty smart? Well then you should go to Harvard. Take a tour of America’s oldest college when you visit Boston.

About Coastal Queen Cruises

Coastal Queen is a pristine, 58-foot cruising vessel that is owned and operated by Conanicut Marine Services Inc., a family-owned and operated business that has been a part of the marine industry in Jamestown and Newport since 1974. Coastal Queen Cruises, launched in 2019, offers daily cruises, sunset cruises, special event cruises, group tours and private charters. The cruises depart from Bowen's Wharf, Newport, with some special events departing from East Ferry Wharf in Jamestown. Cruises offer tourists and locals alike the opportunity to see the spectacular sights of Newport and lower Narragansett Bay, up close from the water. Sightseeing opportunities include views of the Newport Harbor lighthouses, "Clingstone" the house on the rocks, forts, Jackie Kennedy's childhood home Hammersmith Farm and miles of spectacular and charming New England coastline. Local history buffs may remember Coastal Queen originally as the Viking Queen. This ship sailed Newport Harbor and lower Narragansett Bay for many years. She took a brief detour to New York until Bill Munger, CMM, Founder and President of Conanicut Marine Services Inc., spotted the ship for sale and brought her back to Newport Harbor. She was restored to her full glory, renamed Coastal Queen, christened and re-launched in her home waters of Narragansett Bay. ‍ Coastal Queen offers panoramic views and ultra-comfortable seating from anywhere onboard. The upper deck features a hard top, open-air seating for fresh ocean breezes and clear, side curtains that roll down for comfort when the weather warrants. The glass-enclosed lower deck features a grand teak wood-center bar, mini snack bar, restrooms and is ADA accessible. The vessel seats up to 140 passengers and is spacious, cozy, and heated on chilly days—so cruises can operate throughout most of the year—weather permitting. ‍ Coastal Queen Cruises eagerly awaits the opportunity to take you on an enjoyable and memorable tour of her home, Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Welcome aboard!

Guests Highly Recommend Our Cruises

The crew was great. Safety was always first. Very informative. Worth every penny we spent. Carol, Robert and the Boat Captain worked very well together!

The Captain and crew were both friendly and knowledgeable. The views from the ship were amazing and though we didn't see dolphins, the Captain made the announcement that if anyone saw them he would stop or turn the ship around so everyone could see them. Worth every penny!

We had a fabulous time on the crystal cruise ship. It was our very first time and the tour and captain made it very enjoyable. We were able to capture the horse, but no dolphins this time, so we will be sure to be back. Pricing was good and affordable. I definitely recommend this for anyone looking to have a good time at a reasonable price.

Beaufort on the water at sunset was amazing! The information about all the sights around us were complete and very educational. The captain was entertaining and his crew mate extremely nice. Worth every penny and I would not hesitate to go again. Please give this a go if you come to Beaufort, NC area.

This trip was top notch. We enjoyed the captain and the first mate. Our captain gave great narration of what we were seeing. The boat was so comfortable and one had plenty of space on the boat ride. If you are visiting Beaufort, I would highly include this in your plans.

About Cruising to Los Angeles

The City of Los Angeles has a lot going for it. Stretching along the Pacific from Malibu to Long Beach, the region offers plenty to see and do in what can only be called a sun-kissed blend of adventure, culture and whimsy. It all melds stylishly with an anything-goes attitude, and whether you're kicking back on one of its fabled beaches, grabbing a ride at a world-class amusement park, plunging into glittery shops for the latest Oscar-worthy fashions (you need to practice a regally bored look to fit in better), dining at Tinsel Town hot spots or exploring inspiring world-class museums -- you're in for a magic-carpet ride like no other. And in a city dominated by "show business" -- prepare for a ride that comes with a good deal of self-indulgent dazzle anytime of day, be it a Malibu glamour tan while nonchalantly reading Variety, catching the Pussycat Dolls at the Viper Club on Sunset Boulevard or browsing breathtaking art works at the Getty.

For those who never watch TV or go to the movies, we should tell you that L.A. is a sprawling metropolis (with an atypically high percentage of beautiful people) with no "center" -- which means you'll wind your way through various neighborhoods and independently incorporated communities, keeping your eyes peeled for celebs and clusters of paparazzi everywhere. (Did you know that the city's Zagat restaurant guide actually has a "stargazing" category?) And still under the heading of Geography 101, try to think in terms of the major "areas" like Santa Monica and Malibu, the San Fernando Valley (the "valley" to locals), the Westside and Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Downtown and Pasadena.

One important note: Cruises don't actually leave from Los Angeles -- they embark and disembark from San Pedro and Long Beach, two adjacent ports. These are located about 20 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport.

The feeling that everywhere you go must be famous isn't far off; even the gas stations have appeared in film

Cruises don't depart from LA; you'll leave from the nearby ports of San Pedro or Long Beach

There's so much to do in LA, but it's spread out; budget time wisely and beware of traffic

Los Angeles Cruise Port Facilities?

San Pedro: There are really a fair number of places to see around San Pedro. You can walk through Old San Pedro where you'll find plenty of shops and restaurants, or you can consider something more cultural like the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial on South Harbor Boulevard, the historic Angel's Gate Lighthouse , the Greek Revival Banning Residence Museum or the Los Angeles Maritime Museum -- which happens to be California's largest maritime museum. Inside you can check out more than 700 ship and boat models and try your hand at any one of more than 60 seaman's knots. Or, just a block from the terminal, you can tour the Battleship Iowa , which is the only battleship on the West Coast that's open to the public.

Long Beach: It goes without saying that Queen Mary is a popular place to start. It was the most glamorous ship of its time; the passenger lists on its Atlantic crossings between 1934 and 1964 included the world's most famous, from Winston Churchill to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. During World War II, the ship was converted to a troop ship named the Grey Ghost, and carried as many as 15,000 troops at a time. Now it's a floating museum, hotel and conference center.

Aquarium of the Pacific is home to 550 species from three Pacific Rim regions: Southern California & Baja, the Northern Pacific and the Tropical Pacific. The top don't-misses here are Lorikeet Forest -- a mammoth outdoor aviary that will knock your socks off -- and the Plexiglass underpass in the Soft Coral Lagoon. Daily 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (100 Aquarium Way; 562-590-3100)

Good to Know?

Practice common sense safety as you would in any large city. Also, you may be asked for help from a homeless person. Help at your discretion, but if you choose not to help, avoid being rude as there's no need to antagonize them. Chances are that agent, director or producer who thinks you or your child would be a great actor or model is probably scamming you. Go ahead and take their business card -- you can always do an Internet search later -- but don't go anywhere with them and don't give them money or personal information.

Getting Around?

Nope. Not a myth. Not an urban legend. No one really walks to get from point A to point B around Los Angeles. In fact, locals will only walk just so far -- like from their front door to their garage and from the parking lot to the store. And since it is all a huge urban sprawl, consider wheels (be it a taxi, a car rental, a bus or a train) to get around.

Three airports serve the Greater Los Angeles Area: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport (BUR); and Long Beach Airport (LGB). Amtrak serves Los Angeles with its main terminal at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Renting a car is pretty easy, but navigating the elaborate network of freeways -- not so much. All the majors are set up at the airports and pretty cheap, too -- but if a Ferrari or Porsche is your thing, consider Budget Beverly Hill Car Collection. Not only will they bring the car to the airport as a complimentary service, they'll be waiting for you at Baggage Claim where, in the blink of an eye, all the paperwork is done. Did we mention the traffic? Leave plenty of time to get where you're going and try to enjoy yourself along the way. Note: Most Southern California freeways have carpool lanes (HOV/High Occupancy Vehicles called "Diamond Lanes" in and around Los Angeles, and signified with a diamond shape painted in the lanes) -- which means there needs to be a minimum of two (a few require three) passengers inside the car to be using it. Don't even think about trying to beat the system. You'll end up with a pricey fine that will cost upwards of $300.

Seeing the sights will present a bit of a challenge since you'll want to use freeways for quicker travel -- a perplexing situation even for locals -- though sticking to main thoroughfares like Wilshire, Santa Monica, Sunset, Venice, Olympic and Pico boulevards is perfectly fine if you don't get crazy driving in a lot of traffic. For example, you can drive Wilshire, Olympic or Sunset boulevards all the way from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica to downtown. It may take a while, but it does give you a chance to see a lot. You can also get to the valley through the "canyons." Taking the steep twisting roads through Laurel, Coldwater or Benedict canyons or over Beverly Glen is an impressive drive, particularly as you reach Mulhulland Drive at the tippy-top before heading down to Ventura Boulevard -- the valley's main thoroughfare. Note: Freeways running east-west have even numbers, while those running north-south have odd numbers. Most have a name as well as a number and all are well-marked.

Los Angeles has a light rail system that covers more than 60 miles and 65 stations with four lines. Metro Rail may not go everywhere, but it can make it easy to get to a bunch of places worth checking out, such as Pasadena and Universal City. Trains run from approximately 4 a.m. until midnight, depending on the particular line: the Red Line connects downtown to Hollywood, Universal City and North Hollywood; the Gold Line connects downtown to Pasadena and Long Beach; the Blue Line connects downtown to Long Beach with free shuttle-bus connections to LAX; the Green Line runs along the Century Freeway and links Norwalk and El Segundo. Single rides are inexpensive (well discounted for seniors), but there's a one day pass option, too. Notes: Station stops can be more than a few blocks from your actual destination, so be prepared to walk. Tickets are purchased from vending machines and the entire system operates on an honor system. That being said, there are inspectors, from the Sheriff's Department no less, who roam the cars checking randomly for tickets. Get caught without a ticket and you'll end up with a hefty fine and maybe even 48 hours of community service.

Xpress Shuttle provides service 24/7 to and from all three airports to really anywhere you need to go throughout the area. It is also popular for getting to both cruise terminals. (800-427-7483) SuperShuttle operates the same way, serving the same airports. Reservations are not necessary from the airports, but they are when you require a pick-up to go back. (800-BLUE VAN)

Taxis can be expensive -- primarily because everything is just so spread out. A small surcharge is added for fares originating from LAX. Taxis are not hailed in Los Angeles and must be called, unless you are at a major hotel, at an airport or downtown at Union Station. United Taxi (213-483-7604) and L.A. Taxi (323-654-8400) are two reliable choices. A metered-taxi ride from LAX to West Long Angeles or Santa Monica will run at least $20, to Beverly Hills, at least $25 and to downtown, count on at least $35, but that's only if you arrive and travel when traffic is at a minimum, say ... between midnight and 5 a.m. A tip should be about 15 percent.

Public buses (there are more than 200 lines) are recommended for quick daily trips only. Downtown Los Angeles has a DASH system and fares are inexpensive. Cityline Shuttle is great if you're hanging around West Hollywood (not to be confused with Hollywood). It operates Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., making stops at all the major shops and restaurants. ( 800-447-2189) Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus offers 12 routes covering the beaches, UCLA and LAX. Long Beach's public transportation is excellent. The Passport is a free shuttle bus that provides hop on/hop off service throughout the downtown area -- getting you to top attractions such as the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. The Aquabus makes six stops daily from late May to early September, then weekends thereafter, running frequently along Rainbow Harbor to the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, Shoreline Village at Parker's Lighthouse, Catalina Landing, Pine Avenue Circle and Hotel Maya. The fare is cheap and you can pay onboard. The newer, faster Aqualink catamaran makes stops at Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, Belmont Pier and Alamitos Bay Landing. It also runs from late May to early September, then weekends thereafter. The fare, a bit more expensive than Aquabus, can be paid onboard.

Currency & Best Way to Get Money?

Where You're Docked?

Los Angeles Cruise Port Address: Long Beach - 231 Windsor Way, Long Beach, CA 90802 San Pedro - World Cruise Terminal, Berth 93, 92 and 91, Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro, CA 90731

Most ships embark and disembark at Berths 91, 92 and 93 A/B at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, except for most Carnival Cruise Line ships, which sail in and out of the Cruise Terminal in Long Beach.

World Cruise Center is approximately 20 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) via the San Diego Freeway (405) south to the Harbor Freeway (110); 25 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles via the Harbor Freeway; 12 miles from Santa Monica via the Santa Monica Freeway south (10) to the San Diego Freeway to the Harbor Freeway; 20 miles from Hollywood via the Hollywood Freeway (101) south to the Harbor Freeway. Once on the Harbor Freeway, continue south to the CA 47-Terminal Island exit. Parking is available; check Web site for directions and fees. Free shuttle buses are provided to and from the terminal on scheduled ship days. Note: They are not wheelchair accessible.

The Long Beach Cruise Terminal is at 231 Windsor Way and is approximately 30 miles from LAX via the San Diego Freeway south to the Long Beach Freeway (710); 35 miles from Downtown Los Angeles via the Harbor Freeway south to the San Diego Freeway south to the Long Beach Freeway; approximately 32 miles from Santa Monica via the Santa Monica Freeway east to the San Diego Freeway south to the Long Beach Freeway. Once on the Long Beach Freeway, follow the signs for the Queen Mary. At the entrance to the Queen Mary, stay to the far right for the Carnival Cruise Terminal. Note: No matter where you're driving from -- count on at least an hour's time to drive from locations listed above. The Long Beach Airport (LGB) is approximately five miles from the cruise terminal.

Passengers flying from Los Angeles International Airport after their sailing can check-in their luggage from the ship terminal; for a small fee, bypass the ticket counters, remotely check up to two bags and print out airline tickets.

All Aboard: 3 Cruise Line Stocks to Ride the Vacation Boom

These three cruise stocks have profitable winds in their sails for 2024

  • Though 2023 was a year of recovery for beaten-down cruise stocks, 2024 promises calmer waters ahead.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings  ( NCLH ): Though a smaller publicly traded cruise company, NCLH boasts strong revenues and competent leadership.
  • Royal Caribbean Cruises  ( RCL ): Record-breaking bookings and expanding profit margins are making big waves for RCL.
  • Lindblad Expeditions Holdings  ( LIND ): A unique player in the cruise industry, LIND appeals to those with big dreams of adventure and robust bank accounts.

Cruise Stocks - All Aboard: 3 Cruise Line Stocks to Ride the Vacation Boom

Source: Kokoulina / Shutterstock.com

Though travel and cruise stocks have yet to return to their pre-Covid-19 levels, 2024 may be the year of vacations. According to U.S. cruise operators and travel agents, travelers have booked record levels of cruise tickets , surpassing 2019’s numbers. This marks a return of interest and trust in the cruise ship industry after pandemic-era controversies.

However, not all cruise lines are created equal, with some achieving returns to profitability faster than others. Moreover, with the industry’s revenue projected to hit $30 billion in 2024, cruise line stocks could become lucrative investment opportunities. For investors, there are two major factors to look for when considering cruise stocks.

The first is overall financial health, which is measured by the company’s debt-to-income ratios and revenue costs. With cruise ships being expensive to procure, own and operate , many cruise lines don’t have the widest margins. The second is the cruise line’s reputation for value, service and quality. Cruises tend to be expensive forms of vacation for most travelers, meaning that reputation is everything for increasing revenue over time.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH)

With a congregation of three award-winning brands across a combined 32 ships, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE: NCLH ) has been making a steady comeback since 2022. Because its vessel sizes range from 500 to over 4,000 berths, the company has a ship for every itinerary type.

Moreover, to remain competitive, NCLH consistently introduces new vessels alongside the revitalization of older ones . By continuously enhancing offerings, the company believes it will be able to satisfy customers and entice them into coming back. This is meant to support profitability even as prices rise with operating costs. NCLH pairs this improvement focus with the high-class reputation of its brands to maximize revenue generation.

So far, it seems this business model has been working for NCLH as the cruise industry recovers. For example, the company raised total annual revenue by $3.7 billion in 2023 to $8.5 billion , up from $4.8 billion in 2022. Though it’s still operating at a loss, record bookings and interest in cruises could boost the stock after its next earnings call.

Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL)

Renowned for its innovative approach to cruising, Royal Caribbean Cruises (NYSE: RCL ), the world’s second-largest cruise line, has built significant momentum in the last year. Thanks to tremendous demand and 2023 being an exceptional year, RCL stock has returned to its pre-pandemic trading rate of $135 , and is still growing.

For the full year of 2023, the company reported a positive net income of $1.7 billion, translating to $6.31 per share. This is impressive considering its biggest competitor, Carnival Cruise Lines (NYSE: CCL ), is currently reporting losses per share. Moreover, it has reported the five best booking weeks in company history since its Q3 2023 earnings call.

Much of this generous growth can be attributed to the cruise line’s strong marketing and reputation for good value. It earned this reputation by focusing on providing the widest array of experiences for customers while maintaining quality standards.

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings (LIND)

A premium provider in the world of cruises, Lindblad Expeditions Holdings (NASDAQ: LIND ) operates a different kind of travel experience. By specializing in nature expeditions partnered with National Geographic , LIND appeals to adventurous travelers. As such, it markets itself to those with a desire to see the remote parts of the world in style.

Charting voyages to and around Antarctica, LIND’s target market is vastly different from other cruises. That’s because it offers more one-of-a-kind experiences to wealthier people than the major cruise companies. This makes it somewhat of a black sheep among cruise stocks, as its growth relies on consumers with niche interests rather than the sheer volume of classic cruise ships.

The company also operates a diverse mix of land-based itineraries, as well as charter flights across the Drake Passage to Antarctica . This portfolio allows LIND to command the attention of explorers and tourists alike, as it has few competitors in the commercialization of Antarctica.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

coastal cruises inc

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

coastal cruises inc

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

coastal cruises inc

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

coastal cruises inc

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

coastal cruises inc

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

coastal cruises inc

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

coastal cruises inc

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
