He’s going “Back on the Road.” Drake announced his It’s All a Blur Tour with 21 Savage on Monday (March 13). The North American trek will kick off June 16 in New Orleans, and consists of 29 dates in arenas criss-crossing the country, with stops in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Montreal and more, before wrapping on Sept. 5 in Glendale, Ariz.

Black Coffee Claims Drake & Lil Baby Are Working On a Joint Album

This idea is reflected in a video Drake posted to his Instagram account announcing the trek. The visual kicks off with a young, smiling Drake walking, looking hopeful. As it progresses, the video focuses on a billboard that reads “STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM.” From there, the visual shows clips of him performing as a younger man, before cutting to him working his magic in front of ever-growing crowds. There are also scenes of Drake cradling and bottle-feeding infant son Adonis — who was born in 2017 — hopping on a private jet, and more. The video ends with the name of the tour in black text on a yellow background.

Since Drake’s last tour, he’s released several new albums, including Her Loss with tourmate 21 Savage, which dropped in November. The set debuted and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 , earning him his 12th topper on the all-genre tally. Honestly, Nevermind arrived just months earlier in June 2022 (No. 1 peak), and Certified Lover Boy in September 2021 (No. 1 for five weeks).

Tickets for the It’s All a Blur Tour, which is produced by Live Nation, will go on presale first with the Cash App Card on Wednesday (March 15) and Sprite on Thursday (March 16). General onsale kicks off Friday (March 17) at noon local time on DrakeRelated.com .

Drake announces more shows on 2023 North American tour with 21 Savage

drake tour view

Drake is going on a North American tour for the first time in five years, and he's taking 21 Savage along for the ride.

The duo behind chart-topping single "Rich Flex," which debuted in the top slot of Billboard's Global 200 chart , will perform a 43-date arena tour this summer , adding 14 more performances to the initial 29 concerts announced. The It's All a Blur Tour includes stops across the U.S. and Canada kicking off on June 16 in New Orleans and wrapping up in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 5.

The last time Drake, 36, went on tour was half a decade ago for the Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour in 2018.

During his break from the road, the rapper put out a number of studio albums including "Her Loss" with 21 Savage, along with a smattering of other releases. The tour's name is a nod to Drake's work over the last five years, according to a Monday release.

The announcement delivers on a tease from Drake made during his January performance at the Apollo Theater in Harlem  while thanking fans. "I'll be out and about on the road this year, so I hope to see a lot of the same faces," he said at the time.

The Canadian rapper took to Instagram to announce the tour Monday with a montage-style video on Instagram. "IT’S ALL A BLUR TOUR with @21savage," he wrote. "Dates now live on DrakeRelated.com click the link in bio for more information and details for your location."

Drake and 21 Savage have long history

It's not surprising to see Drake and 21 Savage touring together, especially after the release of their 16-track project, "Her Loss,"   which they performed together at New York's famed Apollo Theater in January. All 16 tracks on "Her Loss" debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 last year.

The two also   shared the mic on "Mr. Right Now" from 21 Savage's 2020 "Savage Mode II" album and in turn, 21 Savage was featured on Drake's 2021 "Certified Lover Boy" with "Knife Talk." The two also closed out Drake's 2022 offering "Honestly, Nevermind" with "Jimmy Cooks."

Most recently in November of 2022 Drake and 21 Savage came out with a collaborative studio album titled  Her Loss . Drake, full name Aubrey Drake Graham, is a Canadian rapper and actor from Toronto, Ontario. Born in 1986, Drake first rose to fame as an actor but was signed to Young Money Entertainment in 2009.

At the age of 20, Drake self-released his first mix-tape, “Room For Improvement”, which featured artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz on the tracks. The quality of the work on this first mix tape won Drake a steady following on the underground rap scene which he grew with the release of his second and third mix tapes, “Comeback Season” and “So Far Gone”. The release of “So Far Gone” saw fans download the mix tape over 2000 times in the first two hours of its release. Two tracks from the album, “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful” hit the number one and number two positions on the US Rap charts, respectively.

This success sparked a bidding war amongst various record labels to get Drake onto their rosters. Young Money Entertainment, owned by Drake’s mentor Lil Wayne, came out successful and signed the rapper in 2009. Drake’s studio albums, including “Thank Me Later”, “Take Care” and “Nothing Was the Same”, have reached the number one spot on the US Billboard chart and each has been certified Platinum.

Drake has had multiple multi-platinum selling singles, but his most successful singles include “Hold On We’re Going Home”, "Headlines", "Take Care", "Make Me Proud", and "The Motto" (where Drake was credited with popularising the acronym YOLO).

Already the winner of one Grammy Award for his 2013 album, “Take Care”, Drake has also won a host of other awards from bodies such as the BET Awards, the MTV VMAs and the Juno Awards. Drake has won millions of fans across the world as a result of the six tours he has completed since 2010. With his work ethic and talent, there is no doubt that Drake’s hard-earned success will continue for quite some time.

Live reviews

Drake's energy on the stage is just incomparable to anybody I've seen. The way he connects with the crowd is unbelievable. I think that his energy on stage just get the crowd more hyped up so it's an all around good show whenever Drake performs. From "So Far Gone" to "Nothing Was The Same," his style and the way he gets his message across have stayed the same. That's the best thing about aging, you get better as time progresses and I think that his albums are a definite reminder of how lyrically and musically talented he is. Many artist make one or two good albums, maybe a song or two every now and then, but Drake has consistently been at the top releasing good music and is just on fire. It's easier to get to the top than to stay there, but he's proving to everyone that he has enough to get to the top and knock anyone down who try's to take him down.

I love how he makes his music to fit any type of mood that you're feeling. His music isn't just slow R&B, he has some up-tempo music that will get you feeling pumped up and ready to go. I also love how he isn't like a Lil Wayne type of rapper who just uses auto tune and throws random gun verses in his songs. Every song is well thought out, every line is placed just right, the words flow with the beat and it's just magic. Even if you don't like Drake, when "Hold on, We're Going Home" comes on you're going to start singing. His songs are just too catchy, and are just classic, so 30 years from now people will still be blasting "Take Care" in their car. From what I've watched, he gives the people their moneys worth and leaves them waiting to see Drakes next move or when he's dropping his next album. He's just an all around great artist and performer, strongly recommend seeing him.

I have never been a huge fan of Drake, but after becoming hooked on the 2013 song ‘Hold on we’re going home’, I decided to check out his back catalogue of work, and was really surprised with what I found, and immediately regretted discounting him previously.

The combination of chilled out tracks in contrast with his rapping and songs like ‘Headlines’ provides such great listening variation, covering a variety of musical genres. Drake’s recent performance at this years Grammys was simply breath-taking, drawing in the audience to the narrative of ‘Hold on we’re going home’ without being showy or over the top, yet managing to merge smoothly into the track ‘Started from the Bottom’, providing the audience with a more upbeat track.

Drake’s interaction with his audience, especially on this occasion is something which he deserves credit for, maintaining his vocal performance whilst attempting to greet as many fans as possible. For me, this injection of his personality really provides the fans with a motivation to watch him live, as the dedication to both performance and fans is something that he appears to have mastered.

He really is one of those artists that you have to see live to experience the full potential of his music.

I bought my tickets to Lil Wayne VS. Drake about 4 months ago and finally got to attend the show on Saturday. Wow. My mind was blown. First of all G-Easy Opened for them and really got the crowd warmed up for the headliners. The whole show was like a video game with Drake and Lil Wayne going back and forth with old and new hits which I was so impressed with how they really mixed it up. Drake flew above the crowd suspended holding on to a stripper pole looking stand which Lil Wayne later dogged on him for. They battled back and forth about being the most featured artist and at the end I had chills because they were both saying how grateful they were for keeping each other's music alive. It was inspiring and poetic. I was impressed it was definitely the best show I have been to this year!

Drake puts on a great show, honestly a great performer who is very talented.

However, if you’re really going to tour with migos, and they don’t show up to do their opening set, there really should be some kind of refund. I came to the show expecting to see migos and then drake and then when migos didn’t show up I went into Drakes set disappointed about missing migos. Sure two of them came out and did 2 songs but really not enough. Instead of touring with these unreliable guys, tour by yourself, I would have no problem paying exactly what I paid for just Drake.

Tickets were very expensive. This was one of the most I have ever paid for a concert ticket, need to make it affordable for his fans. His stage presence was brilliant and loved how much he relates himself to the UK and a personal bond with Birmingham. He did lots of his lesser successful songs which was disappointing, songs like crew love which lots of his fans LOVE came on for 10 seconds then he switched into another one. Just felt it lacked real good performances of his better known and his best songs.

I really liked the show! Drake was an amazing entertainer and made me feel seen and made the show worthwhile. He really suprised me in a positive way:) I loved the sequals were he talked between the songs and the drirecting of scenery was incredible. Some of the most impressive stuff I have ever seen on a stage. He was a good singer, and I liked his tribute to Rihanna. Thanks Drake, for an awesome experience. You are way coolet than I thought

One of the best concerts I've been to in a while... Then opening act: party next door wasn't very well known But when the main acts got on stage the party was really bumpin. Great set list. I can say that I was standing and dancing the whole night and rapping along. They had an interactive portion to help decide who won the rap battle between Drake and Lil Wayne through a downloaded app on your phone. Overall awesome experience!

Amazing preformance! He's very enganging and interactive with the crowed, not to mention insanely talented! There was a really cool moving light show (globes of lights that were lowered and raised to create patterns above the audiance as well as change colors). Would have loved to hear more from some of his first albums but all in all a fantastic show. Definatly was worth spending the extra money for floor seats :)

The Drake vs Lil wayne show was definantly a must see! The whole competitive feel of them trying to one up eachother really drove the energy up! Drake is amazing live but honestly Lil Wayne stole the show for me. Also the production value is through the roof! It's less of a concert and more of an experience! They played all of their hits as well as their old stuff! Definantly get a seat to this one!

Drake 'It's All a Blur'

When it comes to Drake , it takes a village.

He has investments and business ventures as wide-ranging and unpredictable as restoring an old surrealist art amusement park to launching his own production house, with the latter having earned him his first Emmy nomination for outstanding drama series as an executive producer on the HBO drama series “Euphoria” last year.

Popular on Variety

Babel joined Drake in 2017 just as he began to invest in endeavors outside of music. Rising to the role of chief brand officer, Babel began to help the crew foster a mysterious image while making the impossible possible: They’ve offered very few behind-the-scenes looks at the tour since it launched at the top of July (a few weeks after it was originally scheduled to launch), and Drake himself has rarely said much to the media in recent years, apart from a few, seemingly random one-offs.

Between Drake’s back-to-back takeovers at both the Forum and Crypto arenas in Los Angeles, Babel shared a few of the logistics behind the massive production — which he says deploys the largest fleet of trucks ever used for an arena trek.

When it came time to start conceptualizing the tour, months after Drake had delivered a hits-filled performance at the Apollo Theater , the blueprints called for colossal, stadium-sized floors. Incorporating robots, special effects, crucially timed lasers, 30-foot tall inflatables, and three separate stages, the “It’s All A Blur” tour is designed to hit the audiences with sensory overload.

The show is intended to be a celebration of Drake’s career thus far, starting with the moment he was peer-pressured into smoking marijuana before his audition for “Degrassi.” Despite the fact that he thought he had failed the job interview, the TV show went on to launch his storied presence in the entertainment industry. Audiences follow the narrative in the form of surreal stage props like a massive flying Peter Pan, a UFO and drone-powered sperm, and the setlist honors his most beloved songs with experimental elements like an ampiano-infused DJ set that repurposes his radio hits. For each date, the props have to be re-sequenced — this includes rebooting the dancing robots, all of which sit at different heights throughout the show.

“We had started conceptualizing and drafting ideas under the assumption we were going to play stadiums. In the end, Drake wanted this tour to be more of an intimate experience for fans that had been riding with him for the past decade and it’s tough to do that in a stadium,” Babel says.

“Arenas are intimate enough to watch a show, to fortify that connection between an artist and his fans while still being large enough to serve a well-sized audience. That’s why there are so many elements and everything is so large — it’s a stadium-level show. There are so many moving parts that need precision — so much so that there is a multitude of things that can go wrong on any given night. We tried many times to cut some of the props or at least scale them down, but he wasn’t having it. He was like, ‘No, I want to have the same show — regardless if it’s a stadium or an arena.’”

Once the tour kicked off, it did experience a few hiccups, including the show at Memphis’ FedEx Forum being called off nearly a week before it was supposed to take place “due to the magnitude of the production of the Drake concert,” according to the camp’s official statement, which added that it was “logistically impossible to bring the show as designed” to the venue. His first of four shows at the Forum in Los Angeles faced similar issues.

“We” also includes lighting director John Torres, who returned to this tour after contributing his skills to the Apollo show, and creative director duo Amber Rimell and Bronski.

“We wanted to accentuate the essence of the show and really combine the intimacy of a theatre piece with the power and scale of Drake and his music,” Torres says of bringing the closeness of the Apollo show to arenas. “The monolithic center stage was an excellent canvas to explore architecture through light and the team both inspired and challenged me to find the perfect hybrid between a classical aesthetic and full-on spectacle.”

Bronski and Rimell are the London-based creatives behind TAWBOX , the production studios that also put adventurous visual effects for Stormzy’s 2019 Glastonbury set, which earned the duo a BAFTA nomination for best entertainment craft team, and Olivia Rodrigo’s performance at the 2021 Brit Awards, among numerous other showcases.

“Working closely with Drake, Matte and the whole team has been a truly remarkable experience,” the pair tell Variety . “Our goal was to deliver creative concepts that complemented Drake’s overarching vision to take everyone in the audience on their own personal journey – starting from where it all began for him. Using innovative techniques and designs that have never before been deployed by a tour of this stature, we were able to showcase vital moments throughout his career using bold lights, colors, contrast and darkness, delivering a one-of-a-kind visual masterpiece that we are incredibly proud to have been a part of.”

Other team members wear more than a few hats. Chubbs, on Drake’s security team, has gone on to launch his own label outside of the camp. Some are even more out of left field: the idea for one of the tour’s merchandise designs (the “Lost and Found” T-shirt that depicts the mountain of bras thrown at Drake during his shows) came from the crew’s resident nurse.

Everyone’s on “rap time,” Babel says, referring to the speed of execution the team has managed to adapt to over the years. And this show has been their biggest testament to “rap time” yet. With every passing week, Drake has welcomed a revolving door of guests: he’s been escorted into the venue alongside Lebron James and Steph Curry and has welcomed J. Cole, Lil Yachty, Skillibeng and Sexxy Red to share the stage with him. The latter was added on as a regular opener for the tour in August and it’s Drake’s goal to incorporate more surprise openers as the tour continues through October, though they won’t be announced until the night of the show.

Jack Dorsey has entered the epic rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake

  • Jack Dorsey seems to support Kendrick Lamar's latest disses on Canadian rapper Drake.
  • The former Twitter CEO liked a post on X calling "Euphoria" a "top-10 diss track."
  • Dorsey's support for Lamar goes back years — he even appeared in one of Lamar's music videos.

Insider Today

The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has been filled with unexpected characters, including pop sensation Taylor Swift and long-dead legend Tupac Shakur.

Now, Twitter and Block cofounder Jack Dorsey is weighing in — and it appears that he's got "PRIDE" for Kung Fu Kenny.

After a back-and-forth of three diss tracks between Lamar and Drake, Lamar released two songs this week. "Euphoria" dropped on Tuesday, and "6:16 in LA" dropped on Friday.

Both of Lamar's tracks received approval from super-fan Dorsey, who has recently liked both new and old posts on X and praised the Compton rapper.

"I will give people a couple weeks to realize Kendrick dropped a top-10 diss track of all time," one post Dorsey liked from Wednesday said.

The former CEO also replied Friday with a heart emoji to an old 2011 Lamar post advertising a Toronto concert on June 16. Toronto is Drake's home city, and some fans have speculated that the "6:16" in Lamar's latest diss references this post.

❤️ https://t.co/RWyvYWJ58u — jack (@jack) May 3, 2024

On Friday night, Drake released his latest response to Lamar: "Family Matters." In the 7-minute track, Drake mentions Lamar's longtime fiancée, Whitney Alford, and goes after Rick Ross, J. Cole, and The Weeknd. Not to be outdone, about 30 minutes later, Lamar surprised fans by releasing a third diss track called "Meet the Grahams," where the rapper pretends to speak to the family of Drake — whose real name is Aubrey Graham.

Related stories

To that scathing diss, Dorsey replied, "truth vs lies."

truth vs lies https://t.co/V1sIOTOeno — jack (@jack) May 4, 2024

In "Euphoria," Lamar asserts that Drake lied about him in his previous disses: "Know you a master manipulator and habitual liar too/But don't tell no lie about me, and I won't tell truths about you," Lamar raps over a sample of the Teddy Pendergrass slow jam "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration."

Dorsey has never counted Kendrick out

Dorsey didn't become a fan overnight. The former Twitter CEO has been a consistent supporter of Lamar's art. In 2015, Dorsey posted a video at a Lamar concert calling the rapper "the greatest."

He's also praised many of Lamar's records, including the Pulitzer-prize-winning "Damn" and his pandemic record "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers."

"this is an opera. @kendricklamar is a poet and a teacher. I learn something new each listen...and I can't listen to anything else. constant spin," Dorsey said of the 2022 album.

At one point, Dorsey even toyed with the idea of Lamar becoming a potential Twitter board member in 2016, Vox reported.

Lamar reciprocated the love by bringing Dorsey on for 2022 music video for the song "Count Me Out." Dorsey makes a quick cameo by sharing a toast with Lamar and venture capitalist Aviv Nevo.

Lamar also worked with Dorsey's fintech company Block and Ticketmaster to offer fans early access tickets for his 2022 Big Steppers tour, Quartz reported.

'Tell me who you're loyal to'

Dorsey isn't the only unlikely character outside the music world to chime in on Drake and Lamar's ongoing saga. In fact, both rappers have been flexing who pledged their "LOYALTY" to them.

On Lamar's side, iconic soul singer Al Green approved of his latest track, which uses a sample of Green's " What A Wonderful Thing Love Is ."

It was another embarrassing development for Drake, who was roasted and promptly asked to remove one of his diss tracks against Lamar last week after Shakur's estate took issue with Drake's use of AI to recreate Pac's voice.

Drake is also facing off against rappers like Future, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, and producer Metro Boomin', who have all released their own verses and songs aimed at the Toronto rapper. But he's also letting it be known that he has some friends on his side, too. In "Family Matters," Drake shouts out fellow industry members Chris Brown, YG, and The Game.

Actor Uma Thurman also nodded to Drake in April through an Instagram post featuring an image of her costume in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill: Volume 1." In the film, Thurman played the katana-wielding, revenge-seeking "Bride."

"Need this? @champagnepapi," Thurman wrote as a caption in her story.

Dorsey and spokespeople for Drake and Lamar did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Kendrick Lamar cannot stand Drake; "Euphoria" lists the ways.

Kendrick Lamar just reminded us there's no substitute for real emotion in rap beef.

This morning, the LA rapper released his response in the ongoing feud between himself and Drake , by dropping a six-minute diatribe aimed at Drizzy as a rap artist and, more importantly, as an assassination of his character on a human level.

" Euphoria " not only references Drake's involvement with the MAX hit drama of the same name but also expresses the level of elation Lamar likely feels in finally getting these things off his chest. Lamar's song is the latest plot point in the timeline of hostility between the two rap titans considered to be part of hip-hop millennial Mount Rushmore. This is a timeline that goes back over a decade and was recently reignited in the beginning of 2024 with a storm of messy diss tracks — both authentic and artificial.

On the first verse, Lamar uses a calm, cool yet sinister delivery: "Know you a master manipulator, and habitual liar, too / But don't tell no lie 'bout me, and I won't tell truths 'bout you."

But pretty quickly, his rhymes erupt into tunnel-visioned, blood-boiling disgust on the deepest level. Lamar accuses Drake of being an inadequate father to his son, mocks his Toronto slang, jeers at his rumored plastic surgery, alludes to him being a snitch, calls back to past beefs Drake has remained mum about and even comes for Drake's whole identity, questioning his Blackness. These lyrical shots, while definitely disrespectful, really are not anything too explosive. In fact, these are accusations rap fans have heard before about Drizzy via disses by Rick Ross , Megan Thee Stallion and Pusha T . But at 3:10, K.Dot breaks his usual poetic form to list out every detail about the streaming-era star he just simply cannot stand:

I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk I hate the way that you dress I hate the way that you sneak diss If I catch a flight it's gonna be direct We hate the b****** you f*** because they confuse themselves for real women Notice I say, "We" It's not just me; I'm what the culture feeling

Can rap beef exist when no one agrees on what's being fought for?

Music Features

Can rap beef exist when no one agrees on what's being fought for.

Why Future trusts Metro Boomin

Why Future trusts Metro Boomin

Deployed in rapid succession, this caliber of a callout is so visceral and real that it's exactly what's been missing in this rap beef. To rap fandoms and music critics alike, so much of this high-profile hip-hop clash has just felt off . Synthetic, gummy, uninspired. In the age of artificial everything , even the war of words between Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Drake (plus a few others along the way) has been marked by its detachment from the whole artistic premise of a rap beef — to show off your skills, up the ante and embarrass your opp into submission.

It's been a month (March 26) since Lamar threw the first stone in the long-brewing beef with his sub on the Future and Metro Boomin track " Like That ": "Motherf*** the big three, n****, it's just big me."

After J. Cole dropped the track " 7 Minute Drill " on April 5 in response to "Like That," Cole rescinded his diss and announced publicly that he was bowing out of the beef completely while onstage at his label's annual Dreamville Fest because, point blank, Cole's heart wasn't in it.

On April 19, Drake finally unleashed his official response to Lamar with " Push Ups ," coming at Lamar's past pop-leaning features, his "pip-squeak" stature, mocking TDE's tour sales and even name-checking "Like That" producer Metro Boomin in the process. But the way "Push Ups" was rolled out created a new frontier of Internet Age confusion among rap fans. When it first dropped, some assumed the low quality, online leak was an AI-generated facade and not Drake himself. The legitimacy of "Push Ups" was confirmed by live streamer DJ Akademiks and eventually hit DSPs, but this disorientation created an added layer of Internet chatter, one Drake could capitalize on. Proving he was taking cues from social media timelines, Drake doubled down on his response to Lamar with another track, "Taylor Made Freestyle" just a few days later. Only this time, he started off the song with AI-generated verses from the late Tupac Shakur and the very alive Snoop Dogg .

The attempt to irk Lamar with manipulated voices of two West Coast legends was a uniquely 2024-type of move, but ultimately, it undercut any potency of the song. The Shakur estate issued a cease and desist to the Toronto rapper for " unauthorized use of Tupac's voice and personality " and the track was promptly taken down from social media.

Firing back with a track that's as savage and emotional as "Euphoria" on a random Tuesday morning via YouTube is considered an old-school energy in today's era of infinite distribution avenues and a conversation-driving chess move that leads back to one source. This record drips with levels of seething, petty hatred for Drake that's clearly been on K.Dot's heart for years. At its core, "Euphoria" is fueled with begrudged, tired, emotional baggage from K.Dot that's only gotten heavier with time and can't be mimicked or manufactured. It's free of gimmicks, media personalities, gatekeeping or ChatGPT. This beef is over or it's just getting started. For real this time.

Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s Diss Tracks, Ranked

Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been trading shots for weeks now. We ranked all of the diss tracks between them.

What started with the verse heard ‘round the world has spiraled into hip-hop's most epic rap battle.

Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” dropped on March 22, and it’s been pure chaos ever since, with Dot and Drake trading blows for the last month and a half. This battle has been a long time coming and has taken wild twists and turns along the way, from Drake responding and trolling Kendrick ( and half the rap game ) with “Push Ups” to Dot accepting that challenge and dropping four diss tracks in one week. Jokes have been fired, shoe sizes have been questioned, and some dark allegations have been traded.

This battle has already been cemented as one of the most exciting and impactful rap beefs of all time. With plenty of songs to wade through, here’s our ranking of the best diss tracks from both Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Since Drake fired at several rappers on his diss tracks, his songs are being graded based on his specific bars for Kendrick.

10. Drake, “Taylor Made Freestyle”

View this video on YouTube

Most memorable line: “Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior” (Tupac voice)

Artificial intelligence became even more entangled in the rap war than it already was when Drake used AI voice augmentation technology to make himself sound like Tupac and Snoop Dogg in the first two verses of his “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The thought behind the tactic was…different, rapping through two West Coast icons to try and bait Kendrick into responding to him. Drake made AI Pac and Snoop sound disappointed in Dot’s silence before adding his own verse that implied Kendrick was forced to dodge Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department release date, reminding us all that he’s good at twisting internet narratives in his favor. The actual concept of using artificial intelligence in a song, on the other hand, is very wack, especially considering we’re at a moment in history where hundreds of Drake’s peers just signed a petition to protect music from the dangers of the technology. Plus the bars themselves aren’t great, and the Tupac estate threatening to sue Drake effectively shuts the whole track down.

9. Drake, “Buried Alive Interlude” Pt. 2

View this photo on Instagram

Most memorable line: “It feel like Twitter ghostwritin’ your reply”

Drake announced “Family Matters” with an Instagram post where he flips his Kendrick-assisted Take Care cut “Buried Alive Interlude” against the Compton rapper. The track itself doesn’t have an actual title and wasn’t released on streaming, but it is completely different from “Family Matters” in both sound and subject matter. In the track's first half, Drake mocks Kendrick’s flow, rapping about bringing Dot on his Club Paradise tour as an opening act back in 2012. “It feels like Twitter ghostwriting your replies,” he raps, leaning into the narrative that Kendrick’s bars on “Euphoria” had already been said by fans on social media. The track doesn’t feel like a complete thought, but it’s the perfect appetizer for “Family Matters.”

8. Drake, “The Heart Part 6”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “You haven't seen the kids in six months, the distance is wild/ Dave leavin' heart emojis underneath pics of the child”

As soon as a rapper starts explaining themself in a beef, they’re in trouble, and Drake spends the majority of “The Heart Part 6” on defense, trying to counter Kendrick’s onslaught. Dot caught Drake in a Catch-22, if he didn’t respond to the Compton rapper’s accusations that he was a child predator then he would look crazy, but if he did acknowledge them he would still…look crazy. Unfortunately, Drake opts to do the latter, but does not explain himself well on the track. He misinterprets the Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers song “Mother I Sober” by claiming Kendrick was molested by a family member. He then uses that misinterpretation to explain why Kendrick accused Drake of being a predator. Not only is that logic backward and wrong in general, but it was a decisive misstep that makes “The Heart Part 6” one of the weakest diss tracks in this war.

7. Kendrick Lamar, “6:16 in LA”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “A hundred niggas that you got on salary/ And twenty of 'em want you as a casualty/ And one of them is actually next to you/ And two of them is practically tired of your lifestyle/ Just don't got the audacity to tell you”

What makes “6:16 in LA” so good is how layered it is. Kendrick has taken a different thematic approach to each diss track he’s dropped so far, and here he hijacks Drake’s timestamp series of songs and fills the record with the very “quintuple entendres” that the rapper was asking for on “Taylor Made Freestyle.” From the track’s title having several potential meanings—6/16 is Tupac’s birthday, Father’s Day, when the series Euphoria premiered, and when OJ Simpson’s murder case began—to the cryptic cover art and lush Al Green sample that features guitar credits from Drake’s father’s cousin, everything about “6:16 in LA'' feels meticulously calculated. And then there’s the lyrics. Kendrick taps into Drake’s trust issues and implies that he has a leak in his camp and that some of his close friends hate him. He does all of this while rapping at a high level. “6:16 in LA” feels like a diss from forgotten times after the war took a dark turn with “Family Matters” and “Meet the Grahams,” but it still stands as an elite track.

6. Kendrick Lamar, “Meet the Grahams”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “Fuck a rap battle, he should die so all of these women can live with a purpose”

The gloves came off and the war went to a dark place when Kendrick challenged “Family Matters” with “Meet the Grahams” within an hour after the former dropped. Up until this point, it was still a “friendly fade” but “Meet the Grahams” takes things into dark waters as Dot uses each member of Drake’s immediate family to address him and accuse the rapper of having a substance abuse problem, being a sexual predator, and of abandoning an 11-year-old daughter. Drake immediately refuted these allegations and claimed he planted this information for Kendrick to use on “The Heart Part 6,” but the damage from the song had already been done. The song has little to no replay value, and Kendrick sounds like Jigsaw as he talk-raps through all of these serious allegations. It works well as a diss track, but it also uses hypothetical victims as props and calls into question why Kendrick had been holding all of this information until now. Ultimately, “Meet the Grahams” will be remembered as the song that marked the point of no return in this war.

5. Drake, “Push Ups”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “Metro shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums, nigga”

“Push Ups” is a masterclass in multitasking, a song where he efficiently takes shots at Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, The Weeknd, and even Ja Morant with four minutes of straight bars on a beat that sounds like it could have soundtracked the Halloween franchise. Taking on half the rap game in one song is a daunting task, but Drake makes it look easy as he dedicates a few bars to everybody, shooting back at Kendrick, Future, Rick Ross, and The Weeknd, while delivering one of the funniest one-liners in rap this year with, “Metro, shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums, nigga.” “Push Ups” surfaced in a fumbled rollout that caused everyone to question the validity of a low-quality leak that sounded like it could have been AI, but the song itself is very strong and was a great counterpunch.

4. Drake, “Family Matters”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now”

Despite being snuffed out by the shock value of “Meet the Grahams,” “Family Matters” is a good diss song because of its range in sound and the different flows Drake exhibits. In reality, it would have probably served him better to split the track into two separate songs so he could focus solely on Kendrick (ASAP Rocky probably gets the most creative disses). But Drake still manages to lob some decent jabs and heavy accusations Kendrick’s way—the main one being that the Compton rapper has been physically violent toward his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and that his creative partner Dave Free fathered one of his children. The song is well put together, and has a layered music video that features Drake crushing the same model Mini-van that was featured on the cover of good kid, m.A.A.d city. Drake still held his own yet again despite having to shoot at half the rap game.

3. Kendrick Lamar, “Euphoria”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “I even hate when you say the word ‘nigga,’ but that's just me, I guess/ Some shit just cringeworthy, it ain't even gotta be deep, I guess”

The best diss tracks pick apart opponents in unique ways that will haunt them. But they only withstand the test of time if they have one secret ingredient—pure hater energy. And Kendrick harnesses that on “Euphoria.” Not only is the track filled with easter eggs—like Dot reversing Richard Pryor’s dialogue from The Wiz when he’s being exposed as a fraud or the title being named after the sexualized high school drama Euphoria, which Drake executive produces—it also meticulously picks apart The Boy's massive persona. Kendrick takes jabs at everything from Drake’s relationship with his Blackness to various ghostwriter allegations. And “Euphoria” doesn’t rely on salacious information to get at the rapper, but leans fully into the fact that Kendrick just doesn’t like the guy. Sometimes it pays to be “the biggest hater.”

2. Future & Metro Boomin f/ Kendrick Lamar, “Like That”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “Motherfuck the Big 3, nigga/ It’s just big me”

Kendrick managed to trigger an entire rap war off his first hand, and it’s still one of his best cards drawn. With one explosive verse, Kendrick finally put an end to all of the pump-faking he and Drake had been engaging in since he last pushed the red button on “Control” more than a decade ago. What’s most impressive about “Like That,” though, is how effective Kendrick is in so few bars. He wastes no time refuting the Big three label, shits on Drake’s affinity for Michael Jackson with a clever bar about Prince, and makes it clear that he wants all the smoke. Metro Boomin, finding a way to say “fuck you” to Drake through the production, also helps make the case for “Like That,” a song that sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks. Drake has long been praised for his ability to diss rivals on hit songs that they have to hear in the club, so you know he was seething after someone did it to him.

1. Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us”

drake tour view

Most memorable line: “Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A-minor”

Dot might have won this battle with this track because he beat Drake at his own game; he linked up with DJ Mustard and made a club-friendly diss track where he still took haymakers at his opponent. The song became inescapable less than 48 hours after its release, with clubs and even NBA on TNT playing the track. OVO stans like Akademiks had to yield to its electricity, and even Drake himself admitted that he would have liked dancing to the song if it didn’t have such serious allegations attached to it. The lyrics that Kendrick has crowds screaming are very questionable (“Certified Lover Boy, Certified pedophiles”?) but “Not Like Us’” has a contagious hook and West Coast bounce that make it too good to only play once. Time will tell if this track marked the end conclusion of the rap war between the two titans, but “Not Like Us” has already proven itself to be the stone that stunned Goliath.

Drake Comes Out as Surprise Guest at Nicki Minaj's Toronto Tour Stop, Gives Her Kiss on the Cheek

Nicki Minaj didn't hesitate to bring out her longtime Young Money partner and frequent collaborator, Drake , during a Toronto stop of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour.

Drizzy was a special guest at the Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night (April 30), just hours after getting a fiery six-minute response from Kendrick Lamar on diss track "Euphoria."

But while the 6 God didn't speak on Lamar, he got major props from Minaj, who called him an "icon" and "legend" after performing their latest collaboration, "Needle." After giving Minaj a kiss on the cheek before she retreated backstage for a costume change, the venue went up when Drake performed "Rich Baby Daddy" off his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs .

Later, Drake teased a potential follow-up to his Lamar-aimed tracks "Push Ups" and "Taylor Made (Freestyle)," saying, "You know what time it is, you know what I gotta do," before exiting the stage.

Earlier in the day, Drake sent subliminal shots to Lamar on Instagram via liked posts before comparing "Euphoria" to a poetry scene from the 1999 romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You .

But last night wouldn't be the first time that Drake came through for Minaj on her recent tour. During some trouble at the Canadian border last month, causing her Montreal show to be delayed, the "Evil Ways" rapper "made a couple calls" for Minaj, which allowed her to perform three hours after her scheduled concert time.

A stunning 2-CD Set – marking the historical return of a long, lost rock band from the late 1960's.

Original core members of Paul Revere & the Raiders – Fang, Drake, & Smitty – recorded three albums for RCA Victor before disappearing into obscurity. The music remains as a testament to the "leap of faith" these three rockers embarked upon, despite the risk of leaving all the fame & popularity behind that they had enjoyed as original Raiders in their zenith. This package will include a complete biography of Brotherhood in a beautiful 24 page color booklet with many never-before-seen photos, and a tribute message written by the last, living founding member of Brotherhood, Phil "Fang" Volk. Remastered and sounding better than ever, this music will surely resonate with young and old alike as you enjoy the creative journey taken by this band of brothers at a time in the late 60's when music was exploding in so many new directions, and relevant social messages & protests were hanging on every lyric, and the sound of every edgy chord rang out with the angst of the ever changing tumultuous times. It's been 45 years since this music originally hit the streets. The songs are as relevant as ever...

"...meet you on the other side of Forever..."

I've lost my dear friend, my Raider buddy, and the music world has lost a guitar icon.

drake tour view

Drake and I met over 50 years ago in Nampa, Idaho. He was a city boy from Chicago, and I was a city boy from Los Angeles. Our families transplanted us to the farmlands of Idaho, where we became fast and loyal friends, and aspiring musicians. I had just got a guitar for Christmas (1959) from my parents, and Drake and I set out to conquer the world with our music. Although we weren't sure how we were going to do that, we had a dream that some day it would happen. Five years later, the dream was happening. Drake and I were filming a TV show with Dick Clark called "Where The Action Is." Some of the guests artists were Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Jan & Dean, The Supremes, Bobby Rydell and Frankie Avalon. These artists were already well on their way to super stardom, and our little rock band, Paul Revere & the Raiders, was now riding the same "glory train" with them and the adventure of a lifetime had just started for me and Drake. Several national tours followed, along with 5 gold albums and 12 hit singles, before Drake, Smitty and I broke out on our own to form The Brotherhood, who produced 3 albums for RCA Victor. The last tour Drake, Smitty and I did together for the Raiders in March-April of 1967 was a massive success. We played almost every major arena in the country, and on many occasions had double-billing with The Beachboys & the Rolling Stones. Our music dreams that Drake & I had formed way back in the farmlands of Idaho, surrounded by sugar beet fields, corn fields, and golden fields of wheat & barley, had come to pass – we were actually living the dream. We were "brothers" in music, and The Brotherhood was a natural transition after the Raiders broke up. It was always our resolve to write music that would promote peace, love and unity in the world. We wanted to create music that had a real positive message. Drake and I became a very prolific songwriting team. At the end of that last Raider tour, I got a phone call from home that my older brother George had just died in Viet Nam. Drake was the first person I told, and he held on to me while I broke down in tears. He was a true and loyal friend. Drake always considered my family his "second family" because he spent more time at my place then anywhere else. George had helped him learn to play guitar, and because of our close friendship Drake was more or less "adopted" into our family When my mom passed away in 2006, he shed so many tears as if it was his own mom. I've always appreciated how much love Drake had for my brothers and sisters and my parents. We all will miss him greatly, as we do "Smitty" who we lost in 2001.

Drake leaves behind his loving and loyal wife Sandra of 37 years, his mom Charle, his brother Jeff, his sister Lori, and his two sons David and Darby. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them in their time of grief.

Drake Maxwell Levin also leaves us a stunning and soulful legacy of music as one of the seminal pioneers of some awesome rock & roll music and some of the most memorable guitar solos during the "glory days" of the 1960's.

One of my last conversations with Drake at the hospital in San Francisco was awkward and difficult. It's hard to know what to say when you know you won't see your buddy again, (that is, until the New World and the resurrection that Jesus promised in the Bible) I finally mustered the courage to say: "...alright my brother, I'll see you down the road..." I heard him say as I walked from the room, holding back the tears: "I'll be waitin' for ya..."
