Actress Joy Furaha, well known for her role as Kawira on Papa Shirandula, says it's hard to know a celebrity's real behaviour.

She spoke to Kikuyu Diaspora, addressing the issue of money in marriage.

Kawira ended her marriage to Pastor Ephantus Wahome Safari on June 16, 2020.

The two are well-known in the entertainment scene.

Ephantus was Kawira's first love but she said they failed to connect.

"You cannot know who you are dealing with in the entertainment industry. People can be pretenders and money is not everything," she said adding that she left to find her peace.

"I left during a pandemic coz I was not at peace. While dating there was no red flag."

Kawira regrets that she was too faithful and loyal to her man.

"I did not provoke things and that is one way I failed. While dating, try to do something like coming late for a date to see their reaction and how they handle anger," she said.

Kawira, a staunch Christian, also said she did not listen to God but was mesmerised by his dark and handsome looks.

She spent six years in the marriage although she said she would have left early.

"I regret that I would have left early so we could move on early. We would have moved to another chapter by now," she said.

Kawira suffered a miscarriage and lost a child during her marriage.

"I am a mother of twins but before that, I had lost my first pregnancy and then I had triplets and I lost one child," she said.

"I am a mum to a boy and a girl. I would say maybe the assignment in that marriage was to just get my children."

Her advice to anyone in a troubled marriage is not to wait if it is not working.

"We called for delegation but still, it did not work. I am yet to find out why my marriage did not work coz I still don't understand. I don't understand why I had to go through that yet I was a church girl."

Kawira’s Ex-hubby Speaks on Failed Marriage: “I am psychologically tortured”

The actress spoke for the first time in June, revealing she left Ephantus on June 16, 2020.

“I said it is a wrap, I quit. When you see you don’t know where the relationship is heading to, you say for the sake of your own peace and that of the other person, you go your separate ways,” Kawira said of their six-year marriage.

“I left during a pandemic coz I was not at peace. While dating there was no red flag. I did not provoke things and that is one way I failed. While dating, try to do something like coming late for a date to see their reaction and how they handle anger,” she added.

“Happy utamaduni day!

Marriage is sacred and no one gets into it with a second thought. On 22nd November 2014 I said Yes I do to the love of my life in a colorful wedding attended by friends and family. I met my wife in a function, we had given her an opportunity to MC. We courted less than a year and boom, ’The wedding’.

Marriage is an instituition, you work it out. No one is perfect and both parties have a role to play. I did not marry an actress neither did she marry a businessman, and if I did marry an actress,you have the answer why she is running from one media house to another. She married Ephantus, she saw my giftings and that is why she encouraged & introduced me to her bishop friends in Meru for ordination as a pastor in 2017.

My wife had a strong attachment with her mother noting that she was the bread winner and the mother lived in her house. The bible says both shall leave their parents and they shall come together. On getting married she wasnt ready to move out without the mother. From where I grew up, mother in laws do not live with their children in the same house of which there was a period I allowed it but the outcome wasn’t good(story for another day).

The first two years were really difficult for both of us having to counter pressures from family and friends. We tried to conceive with no results. I encouraged my wife we sought the help of a doctor. I walked with her throughout the treatment and finally God came through. She conceived and sadly again, it was a blighted ovum. We had to terminate.

We prayed and trusted God as we were going on with treatment. God rewarded us with triplets., I accompanied my wife in all her clinics and at 32nd week, we were informed one baby had succumbed. It was tragic for us but thank God for doctors who saved my twins.

I kept my family in the very best a man can keep a woman. I provided for my family to a point of supporting extended family as well but one evening from work I found an empty home. I loved Joy with all my heart. I have engraved my kids initials on my arm. I inflicted pain to heal the pain of missing my lovely children. I have requested for co parenting she has declined.

I tried to reach out , sent friends ,called her but my calls went unanswered. The past two years until the date she started doing rounds on social media, I did not know why my family left.

I am psychologically tortured, as she has kept our kids, that I saw to growth almst 5 times a day at Mp Shah hospital, when she was in the house recovering. Rev Lilian Young, a family confidant can attest to this.

Her accusations have damaged my reputation. My businesses are failling. It’s hurting, she is getting all this encouragements from somebody i called ‘mum’; the ‘mum’ who was against me marrying her from the day I introduced her.

In my pre-marital counselling I learned that there are no perfect marriages. Mine wasnt to be perfect and if yours is, then we give glory back to God. Challenges are there some I cant write, there are so personal that if I do rounds mentioning it might affect even our growing children.

As alleged by my wife , we were not compatible. And if that is the case, kindly lets move on. Clout chasing with me may not help much instead, our kids will one day question you, why you deprived them the love and support of their father.

I wish you well and all the grace to overcome every obstacle.”

Ephantas Safari, the ex-husband of ' Papa Shirandula' actor Kawira has for the first time talked about what really happened before his ex-wife walked out of their 6-year marriage

Ephantus Safari, the ex-husband of actress Joy Karambu, popularly known as Kawira, has broken his silence about their six-year marriage, shedding light on their relationship's inception, the reasons for their separation, and the ensuing depression he faced when Kawira allegedly left him.

How Ephantas & Kawira met

Ephantus revealed that their paths first crossed in 2013 when he was organizing an event at St Andrew's.

They were in search of an MC who could connect well with children, and that's when he noticed Kawira backstage.

At the time, Ephantus had been contemplating marriage, and he found Kawira's character appealing. Their connection blossomed, leading to a grand wedding. Ephantus asserted that he has never regretted his decision to marry Kawira.

"We met in 2013. I was doing an event at St Andrews. We were looking for an MC who would connect well with kids. So siku ya show the way she was backstage I liked her. That time nilikuwa nafeel I wanted to get married.

"Niliona huyu ni dame ako na character poa. We met numerous times then from there we decided to have a wedding, which was huge. I've never said that I made a wrong decision," he said.

Ephantas reveals they faced pressure to have kids

Their initial plan was to wait for two years before having children, as they both felt they were still young. However, the pressure from relatives made those two years challenging.

They eventually decided to have children, but this decision marked the beginning of their relationship's troubles.

Ephantus shared that cultural differences and the presence of Kawira's mother-in-law in their home strained their relationship.

"When kids came challenges zilianza. On her side, she said alikuwa tu anatrust her mother na watoi, so we had to bring her mother. Issues started from there because in our Kikuyu culture mothers-in-law are not supposed to stay with the son-in-law. Ni kutembea tu alafu anaenda, " she said.

Although they initially agreed that Kawira's mother would leave and receive support from outside, the situation escalated from there.

Ephantas claims ex-wife Kawira left him

One day, Ephantus returned home to find that Kawira and their children were gone. He felt like something was wrong and realised that there were no security lights or any of her belongings in the house.

"One day I came back nikapata hawako... Nikafeel ni kama kuna kiru kinaendelea. Nilipata hakuna security lights.Nikaona hakuna vitu, nguo zake zote haziko, nikaenda bedroom ya watoi hakuna vitu. Nilifeel tu kama ameona ameishia ni sawa tu.

"I didn't call until the third day. When I called some of her friends and relatives, none of them gave me a positive response. All this time I was sending support but when I called she was not picking up. Later she blocked me everywhere," he said.

Ephantus fell into a deep depression during this period, even turning to alcohol for solace.

After surviving a health scare related to his high sugar levels, Ephantus decided to forgive completely and move on.

"I tried all I could until I hated people in the church because no one was willing to help. I got into depression. I started drinking in the house. I was very bitter about everything. Akaanza ku upload vitu on social media and interviews on various blogs.

"And unasoma comments people are judging you on what they don't know. I even went to the hospital and one time I felt like I was dying. Doc said my sugar level was high and it was possible that all my organs would be affected. But I survived," he said.

Ephantas hints at the possible cause of their break-up with kawira

Ephantus suggested a potential reason for his breakup with his ex-wife Kawira. He mentioned that recently, he had a conversation with one of her friends who told him that there were rumors and claims that he was involved with multiple partners, to the point that he had a bed in his office.

He questioned why Kawira chose to believe these rumors and mentioned that he had heard similar concerns from a family member on the day of their wedding, although he didn't take those warnings seriously.

"Recently, I was talking to one of her friends, and I heard that they even claimed we had a bed in our workplace. They said I'm promiscuous, to the extent that I had placed a bed in my office.

"So, why did she choose to believe all those rumors? I was told many things by a family member on the day of our wedding, but I didn't take them seriously," he said.

Ephantas accuses Kawira of denying him access to their kids

Ephantus expressed his desire to co-parent with Kawira for the sake of their children. He emphasized that he has attempted to reach out for this arrangement but has faced challenges.

"Maybe we were not compatible so the best thing is to give each other space and then we come together to co-parent. I've tried to reach out for that.

"Even last week I tried but it didn't work. But sasa ikikataa I will have to go for child custody through the courts. Mi anaeza nichomea jina vile anataka, but our kids staki wakue kwa vita zetu," he said.

Should their efforts to reconcile fail, he is prepared to seek child custody through legal means.

Actress Joy Karambu, better known for her role as Kawira on Papa Shirandula, has made a comeback on social media with an assurance to her fans that she is doing well.

Kawira, went silent for a while after announcing the end of her marriage in 2022. However, in May, during the 2023 Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Kawira made a remarkable return by showcasing her talent in a skit with the Vitimbi crew.

Despite her appearances on the Vitimbi show, it appears fans are still yearning for more of her acting prowess, reminiscent of her memorable moments on Papa Shirandula.

Kawira’s social media have been showcasing less of what she has been up to and some of her fans have been wondering what she has been up to lately.

An X platform user identified as 𝐉!𝐌𝐌𝐘, posted a photo of Kawira with a message that read:  “Huyu alienda wapi?” (Where did she go?)

The post garnered considerable attention and even caught the attention of Kawira who expressed her cheerful gratitude.

“Finally, X is looking for me,” she responded with laughing emojis.

Kawira ended her six-year marriage to Pastor Ephantus Wahome Safari on June 16, 2020. Kawira would later say that the preacher was her first love, but they struggled to truly connect.

She cited the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, where people can often be deceptive, and that she came to realize that money isn’t the sole measure of happiness.

Kawira said she left her marriage in search of inner peace because she felt emotionally unsettled, even though there hadn’t been apparent issues in the marriage. However, the actress said she regrets being overly faithful and loyal in the relationship.

She said during the dating phase, it’s wise to test the waters by intentionally creating situations, like arriving late for a date, to observe your partner’s reactions and how they handle frustration.

Despite being a devout Christian, Kawira admitted that she didn’t always listen to God’s guidance.

She admitted that she had been attracted by Pastor Wahome’s physical attributes and that she had initially believed he was a divine match.

Kawira told TUKO.co.ke , just like any other woman looking for a partner, she prayed for a husband.

"I prayed and fasted for a husband," she said.

The couple got married in 2014 in a colourful wedding ceremony attended by several celebrities.

The multi-talented actress revealed they dated two years before getting married. Asked if it was too fast to settle down, she said;

"I think there's nothing like enough time when it comes to dating. If someone isn't willing to let you know them better, no matter how much time you take before getting married, you will never know them. Hata miaka kumi huwezi mjua, siku moja utakuwa surprised."

Kawira revealed she decided to walk out of her marriage because things weren't working.

"Niliona tuu hatumatch. Vile nilifikiria sio hivo and that was immediately after we got married, that's when I noticed it wasn't what I thought marriage was. We tried to work things out but it didn't."

Kawira advised those in marriages that aren't working to walk out instead of staying.

The actress revealed when she walked out of her marriage, she didn't tell her husband.

"Alikuta nishaenda," she said.

Rumours have been making rounds online that the Ephantus cheated on Kawira but she denied the claims.

"Mimi sijawahi mpata akicheat. Ni vile watu wana speculate because they can't believe you can marry someone and don't match. Sijawahi mpata na sina evidence of him cheating," she said.

Kawira said she wouldn't reconcile with the father of her children, and wasn't ready to fall in love again.

"I'm not available. Sitaki kudate sahi. Sitaki mtu."

The soft-spoken mum also called upon potential employers to employ her.

Pastor Ephantus Safari narrates why marriage to Ex-Papa Shirandula actress Kawira failed after 6-years

Pastor Ephantus Safari has opened up about why his marriage to former Papa Shirandula actress Joy Kawira broke after six years.

In an interview with Massawe Japanni, Safari highlighted a few reasons as to why their marriage ended.

“The last time she claimed that you were very violent to her? Massawe kicked started the interview.

Safari weighed in alleging that his ex-wife was just looking for an escape route by branding him an abuser.

“Maybe she was just looking for a point to justify her actions because we lived very well and later she was the one who left without disclosing why," he said. 

He went on to state that the main reason for the failure of their marriage was his now ex-wife's need to continue staying with his mother.

“She really wanted to live with her mother, when I married her she was living with her mother. I took her and we started living together.

"After a while, the mother came and started living with us to which I advised that we rent a separate house for the mother-in-law. But after a while, she again looked for another house and they started staying together again,’.

The music producer went on to allege that he has not seen his kids for close to three years after Kawira cut all communications with him.

“I support her and I even call her but she doesn’t answer even when I send messages. But I sent money because I don’t want my kids to suffer even though I have not seen them for three years,” he added.

He also mentioned that now he has a lawyer and he is going to address the settlement the legal way in the coming days to be able to gain access to his kids.

“I have tried everything and even sent people close to her but all way in vain and so I have decided to go to Court to get permission to see my kids,” h e added.

Ephantus revealed that their paths first crossed in 2013 when he was organizing an event at St Andrew's.

In October 2022, Joy Kawira said that she left her marriage to Safari due to alleged domestic violence.

She was speaking on Radio Jambo.

"In as much as he would want to see the kids, it must be until some things are clarified," she said.

Ephantus was her first love but they failed to 'connect.'

She said she would not be comfortable giving out her children to their father unless there was supervision.

"He can see them but not alone, I don't feel they will be safe alone with their father, like if there are police he can see them," she stated.

Jokes aside, hers was a glitzy and glamorous affair as she stepped out in a bejeweled white wedding gown and walked right into her new husbands arms.

Joy Karambu, popularly known as ‘Kawira’ thanks to her role on Papa Shirandula where she plays the Gakoromone school-girl role, tied the knot last weekend at the KEFRI grounds Nairobi where friends and family gathered to see them celebrate their new matrimony.

One of the media personalities Kenny Kaburu expressed pride in the couple sating “Mapenzi ni kama kikohozi, hayafichiki, we are glad to be part of this new union”

Albeit keenly keeping her love life undercover for quite a while, it eventually became public knowledge that she was set to have a white wedding a few weeks to the said date.

With a bridal line-up that showcased a bevy of beauties in pink gowns and the best men in electric blue sharp suits, the party held their reception at the KEFRI (Kenya Forestry Research Institute) grounds amidst dance and ululations.

An evidently joyous Karambu was glad to be the wife of Ephantus Wahome who is a Kenyan gospel artiste, famous for the Safari hit single. Perhaps these two met in the showbiz circles, and they sure looked happy as a couple.

The Meru FM fraternity to which she works as a presenters all came out to support their own.

Dj Patches one of her co-workers was glad to be at the wedding saying;

  “Kawira is like a small sister to me and we as the Meru fraternity are proud of what she has done and the milestones she has achieved not only in her career but love life as well”

Fellow celebrities and media were present to cover the glorious occasion and we at SDE wish the newly married couple bliss and prosperity in their marriage.

Why Papa Shirandula’s Kawira left marriage after 6 years

Actress Joy Furaha, well known for her role as Kawira on the Papa Shirandula show says she separated from her husband two years ago.

“I said it is a wrap, I quit. When you see you don’t know where the relationship is heading to, you say for the sake of your own peace and that of the other person, you go your separate ways,” she said in an interview with Hiram Maina.

Kawira says she is the one who left the marriage on Tuesday, 16th June 2020 at 4PM.

On why she remembers every detail of the day she called it quits, Kawira said; “That is a woman for you.”

The actress added that she had been keeping her marital status a secret to allow herself time to heal.

“I am almost there but it will take some time. 6 years in the game can’t go just like that. When you see something that you don’t know where it is heading to, you better go your way for the sake of your own peace.”

The actress advised that people should get to know their partners very well before getting married.

“The thing about ‘till death do us part’ is never that serious. You can get into marriage but later find out you made the wrong decision, please go out, do not stay there. Just quit, you will live to fight another day,” she advised.

Kawira says she is currently having a strong relationship with Jesus and also raising her twin son and daughter.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Pastor Ephantus Safari reveals real reason Kawira left their 6-year marriage

Pastor Ephantus Safari has opened up about why his marriage to former Papa Shirandula actress Joy Kawira broke after six years.

In an interview with Massawe Japanni, Safari highlighted a few reasons as to why their marriage ended.

“The last time she claimed that you were very violent to her? Massawe kicked started the interview.

Safari weighed in alleging that his ex-wife was just looking for an escape route by branding him an abuser.

“Maybe she was just looking for a point to justify her actions because we lived very well and later she was the one who left without disclosing why," he said. 

He went on to state that the main reason for the failure of their marriage was his now ex-wife's need to continue staying with his mother.

“She really wanted to live with her mother, when I married her she was living with her mother. I took her and we started living together.

"After a while, the mother came and started living with us to which I advised that we rent a separate house for the mother-in-law. But after a while, she again looked for another house and they started staying together again," he explained. 

The music producer went on to allege that he has not seen his kids for close to three years after Kawira cut all communications with him.

“I support her and I even call her but she doesn’t answer even when I send messages. But I sent money because I don’t want my kids to suffer even though I have not seen them for three years,” he added.

He also mentioned that now he has a lawyer and he is going to address the settlement the legal way in the coming days to be able to gain access to his kids.

“I have tried everything and even sent people close to her but all way in vain and so I have decided to go to Court to get permission to see my kids,” h e added.

Ephantus revealed that their paths first crossed in 2013 when he was organizing an event at St Andrew's.

 The two, Kawira and Ephantus wedded in 2014 in a colorful wedding ceremony.

In October 2022, Joy Kawira said that she left her marriage to Safari due to alleged domestic violence.

She was speaking on Radio Jambo.

"In as much as he would want to see the kids, it must be until some things are clarified," she said.

Ephantus was her first love but they failed to 'connect.'

She said she would not be comfortable giving out her children to their father unless there was supervision.

"He can see them but not alone, I don't feel they will be safe alone with their father, like if there are police he can see them," she stated.
