Budapest, Hungary

The main event: There are no ‘official’ fireworks displays in the Hungarian capital, and New Year’s Eve in Budapest is a low-key affair compared to many other European cities. Fireworks displays illuminate the sky thanks to many different organisers, but much of the fun occurs in the squares and historic streets.

The local view: Vorosmarty Square is the central hub of activity on New Year’s Eve. Locals and tourists stand side-by-side, waiting for the twelve clock chimes to ring in another year. The holiday is a food-fuel affair, so secure a table in a restaurant with a view and prepare to be as noisy as midnight approaches – firecrackers and raised voices ward off unfriendly spirits.

Where to stay: Matild Palace is a relatively new addition to Budapest’s hotel scene, one of a matching pair of neo-baroque fin de siècle, UNESCO-protected palaces. It houses the first Spago restaurant by Wolfgang Puck in Europe, a rooftop bar with panoramic views, and an art nouveau café that hosts seasonal cabaret shows and lip-smackingly-good brunches. Sunset over Val d'Isere

Val d'Isère, France

The main event: Val d'Isère is one of France’s premier ski destinations , so it’s no surprise that travellers with pennies to spare head here to ring in the New Year. Festive lights and sculptures illuminate the streets, and the highlight of the evening for visitors with a view is the spectacular midnight fireworks display.

The local view: Val d'Isère is a seasonal party playground for avid skiers (and après-skiers) – expect myriad nationalities and personalities rubbing shoulders. Eyes turn to the skies at midnight as pyrotechnics illuminate the night sky, while the bars, clubs, and restaurants are bustling hubs of activity. For foodies, there’s the Michelin-starred La Table de l'Ours or cosy Bistrot Gourmand; elsewhere, Champagne-spraying starts early at famous spots such as La Folie Douce.

Where to stay: Airelles Val d'Isère is one of the ski resort’s most opulent hotels. Rooms and suites are snuggly hideouts with views out onto the white expanses – warm up before heading to Nobu Matsuhisa restaurant for black cod miso and cocktails. Brand new for the 2023/24 season is four-bedroom Chalet Schuss, a private mountain retreat designed by celebrated interior designer Christophe Tollemer. Connor Sturges

Paris, France

The main event: If you’ve got someone special to share a midnight kiss with, there’s no better place to spend New Year’s Eve than the city of romance. The centre of the action is undoubtedly the firework display on Champs-Élysées. Still, if you’re hoping to soak up the atmosphere without being packed shoulder-to-shoulder, the street parties in hilly Sacré-Cœur offer a cinematic – and slightly calmer – view over the festivities. Avoid disappointment and skip the Eiffel Tower entirely; fireworks are only set off here on Bastille Day, and you can see it lit up any night of the year with slightly fewer crowds to battle.

Local view: Traditionally, the French mark New Year’s Eve with a supper known as le réveillon – usually an indulgent feast of delicacies such as oysters, caviar, escargot and foie gras. Michelin-starred restaurant La Tour d’Argent does a set menu of exceptional dishes (and even more exceptional views over the city), though you may need to start saving in January to afford it. For a more budget-friendly option, the roof terrace of cool club Wanderlust is the ideal restaurant in Paris to watch the fireworks over the Seine.

Where to stay: Start the year off with a flourish in the palatial Le Meurice , a creative haven that’s housed both Dali and Picasso, with interiors by designer Philippe Starck. Or check into one Paris' beautiful Airbnbs , scoping out the best street-side cafés for your hangover espresso. For more options, see our pick of the best Paris hotels .

Edinburgh, Scotland

The main event: The Scottish capital’s famed three-day Hogmanay extravaganza usually kicks off on 30 December, with a Viking-style torchlight procession along the Royal Mile. The big night itself features a Scottish music programme including Dougie McLean, Eddi Reader and Breabach, which wraps in time for gig-goers to catch unequalled views of midnight fireworks over Edinburgh Castle. Celebrations continue on New Year’s Day with the traditional fancy-dress dip in the freezing Firth of Forth (known as ‘the Loony Dook’). For more information on the many events that normally take place, visit edinburghshogmanay.com .

The local view: You probably won’t spot many Edinburgh natives at official Hogmanay festivities for one, entirely rational, reason: they know to be sceptical about the weather. Instead, find the Scots hedging their bets with indoor jollities before bagging a free spot to watch the castle’s midnight display. Smart, boho Stockbridge has a wealth of great pubs: stop off for a wee dram or two and folk music at basement joint The Bailie Bar , followed by a trip to Inverleith Park, which offers the best free view of the countdown fireworks in the city.

Where to stay: The Balmoral is the grandest hotel in Edinburgh , and the most comfortable place to recover from Hogmanay celebrations. For something more affordable but no less down to earth, Eden Locke , in a New Town Georgian townhouse, offers a perfect storm of millennial pink and Elephant’s Breath, brass detailing, wicker chairs and tropical plants. For a private stay, takeover this grand yet cosy loft Airbnb with a spectacular location that overlooks the Royal Mile.

Reykjavik, Iceland

The main event: The Icelandic capital’s midnight fireworks are a community effort: everyone buys their own from ICE-SAR, the national search-and-rescue unit, in what is its most lucrative fundraising project of the year. The result: when the clock strikes 12, the sky explodes with hundreds of mini firework displays, lighting up the entire city. It’s a spectacular sight, but listen out for the sounds, too: fire engines and ships docked in the harbour all ring their bells and blow their horns to welcome the New Year.

The local view: Revelries ramp up long before the countdown, with community bonfires all over town from 4pm (a bonus of those long winter nights). A large crowd of locals gathers at landmark Hallgrímskirkja Church to launch fireworks and watch the display at midnight – offering a great vantage from its perch on Skólavörðuholt hill.

Where to stay: Reykjavik Edition is one of the smartest hotels in Iceland right now, with its rooftop terrace for viewing the northern lights, a cushy speakeasy-style bar and rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the fjord and Mt. Esja or downtown Reykjavik.

New York City, USA

The main event: Sure, Times Square isn’t the most original recommendation, but it is the archetypal NYE in NYC . If you’re going to do it, do it from the Renaissance Hotel ’s R Lounge – the bar windows offer peerless views of the famous One Times Square building due south, where the ball drops.

The local view: Make like a real New Yorker and swap Manhattan for Brooklyn. There are free fireworks and live music at Prospect Park , and Brooklyn Bridge is a spectacular spot to take in the sky-side show.

Where to stay: As one of the newest hotels in New York and Aman's first urban outpost in the US, Aman New York has raised the bar for Midtown – all rooms are generous in size, well sound-proofed and have working fireplaces. Also in Midtown, Pendry Manhattan West embraces a relaxed West Coast vibe and has floor-to-ceiling windows in all of its 30 sprawling suites.

Lisbon, Portugal

The main event: The big blowout in Europe’s new capital of cool is at Praça do Comércio, the main square right on the Tagus River. In typically Portuguese fashion, the fiesta runs late: live music starts up at around 10pm and continues after the midnight fireworks. Plenty of locals – armed with their own fizz and plastic cups – can be found drinking and dancing in the heart of the action, so it doesn’t feel like a tourist trap.

The local view: Lisbon ’s central Bairro Alto district is always a party locale – thank the lax open-container laws – and NYE here is no exception. Partygoers often head here after the Praça do Comércio fireworks, and the neighbourhood is also home to some outstanding fado houses, where you can watch traditional Portuguese music with dinner. Popular spots include O Faia and Cafe Luso – but they’re not cheap.

Where to stay: The Lumiares is perfectly placed in Bairro Alto with a maze of bars and nightlife nearby. Once the revelry is over, the hotel is designed to feel like a home away from home – the self-contained studios come with fully-equipped kitchens. Nearby, Bairro Alto Hotel is beloved for its buzzing atmosphere and quality soundproofing. See our guide to the best Lisbon hotels for more.

Koh Phangan, Thailand

The main event: There are parties on the beaches of Thailand’s islands all year round, but the wildest of them all is New Year’s Eve on Koh Phangan, home to the world’s most famous full-moon party. Revolving around Sunrise Beach in Haad Rin, the maelstrom starts as soon as it gets dark and romps on well beyond sunrise and into the following afternoon.

The local view: Go for cocktails and a dinner of freshly caught and grilled fish over on the sunset side of the island, and don’t even think of joining the party until just before midnight. Then head back to Sunset Beach for a dawn swim.

Where to stay: The stylish Anantara resort is halfway up the east coast of Koh Phangan, some distance from the party, but the journey home, on a boat through turquoise waters as the sun is coming up, might possibly be the greatest taxi ride you’ve ever taken.

Venice, Italy

The main event: Yes, it’s touristy. Yes, it’s crowded. But something is enchanting about Venice at New Year’s Eve, all the same, the anticipatory thrill of counting down to midnight in the packed St Marco’s Square more than worth the wait. (And there’ll be a wait – get here at least a few hours in advance if you want a good spot to see the fireworks).

The local view: One of the best views of Venice’s fireworks isn’t actually on the main island; catch the Vaporetto (water bus) over to Giudecca and watch the show from across the lagoon. There are several Italian New Year’s Eve traditions you can join in with. It’s good luck to be wearing red underwear as the year turns over, while lentils, also believed to bring good luck, are an essential part of any New Year’s Eve dinner. Plus, try out more modern practices, such as the chilly New Year’s Day swim in the Lido.

Where to stay: Of all of the hotels in Venice , the most sought-after view is from the garden at The St Regis , which overlooks the Grand Canal. For a party atmosphere, Il Palazzo Experimental hosts one of the best aperitivo hours in town.

Barcelona, Spain

The main event: Barcelona is a city of night owls, so the revelry doesn’t really start gearing up until about 11pm. That’s when crowds gather at Plaça d’Espanya to watch the midnight pyrotechnics on Montjuïc, the hill just above. A few yards from here, Poble Espanyol , the open-air architectural museum, hosts a huge dance party until 6am.

The local view: One of the stranger traditions – other than eating a grape for each chime at midnight (seriously, everyone does it) – takes place at Plaça de Catalunya, in the city centre. As soon as the new year has been rung in, the assembled thousands throw their Cava bottles into the middle of the square. If that sounds slightly frightening, head instead for the most popular club bashes: Pacha rages all night.

Where to stay: Check in to The Hoxton, Pobelnou , a beloved local hangout with a rooftop pool and taqueria. For an unbeatable location, ME Barcelona is a short stroll from the city's central square, Plaça de Catalunya.

Cape Town, South Africa

The main event: The mother of all celebrations in the Mother City usually takes place on the V&A Waterfront, where there’s everything you could possibly require in one handy spot: dinner, live music, dancing, fireworks. Plus, there are views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic shore. It’s spectacular – but if you want a party with a more local flavour, you have to head for the sand.

The local view: A sunset picnic on Clifton 4th Beach, a gorgeous cove in the affluent Clifton neighbourhood, is a popular choice for Capetonians. Then it’s time to hit one of the city’s many glam beach clubs . The hottest ticket? Pacha’s elite soirée at Grand Africa , on the Grand’s private beach, facing Robben Island.

Where to stay: Sitting atop the V&A Waterfront’s much-feted Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, The Silo is the very definition of a destination hotel. Rooms are a happy marriage of vibrant silks and velvets in deep purple and bottle green, while the ballroom-worthy bathrooms are lit by Egyptian-crystal chandeliers. See our edit of the best hotels in Cape Town for more options.

Berlin, Germany

The main event: Berlin’s anything-goes energy is well and truly buzzing at this massive open-air party between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. One of Europe’s largest outdoor celebrations, this jamboree sees around a million people gathering along the event’s 1.6-mile stretch. Better still, it’s free of charge and keeps pumping until 3am. Expect live music, DJs, laser shows, food and, of course, fireworks.

The local view: Berlin ’s not short of world-class clubs, but the rooftop garden at House of Weekend comes into its own on New Year’s Eve, offering astonishing views of the pyrotechnics and the city’s skyline. Plus, you don’t have to worry about that infamous Berghain bouncer.

Where to stay: For a stay close to the nightlife along the banks of the Spree, AMANO East Side sits in the vibrant, edgy Friedrichshain neighbourhood. The ground level's bar is a lively spot to kick the night off, while rooms here are like sexy little hideaways. For more recommendations, see our edit of the best hotels in Berlin .

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The main event: Conveniently compact and always-down-to-party, Amsterdam is an amalgam of impromptu street frolics on 31 December, but if there’s one reliable place to be at midnight, it’s the Magere Brug (‘Skinny Bridge’). Here, merrymakers gather to watch countdown fireworks bursting over the River Amstel, then continue their festivities all across town. Nieuwmarkt (Chinatown), in particular, is known for its rambunctious atmosphere.

The local view: Amsterdam’s EDM heads usually go to the Awakenings party at the Gashouder, an epic rave in an industrial gas holder built in 1902.

Where to stay: There are plenty of smart addresses here – The Hoxton , Soho House , Pulitzer . For a unique stay, Sweets Hotel has a one-of-a-kind location within a bridge house once used by operators to open and close the drawbridges. Naturally, the views of the canals are the standout, while interiors pick up on the period. For more, see our picks of the best hotels in Amsterdam .

Sydney, Australia

The main event: Sydney Harbour’s firework extravaganza is usually watched by more than a million people gathered along the foreshore. To get amongst it, join the boatfuls of revellers bobbing in the water by hiring out a boat, bring your own bubbles and start the countdown early. Landlubbers might prefer to reserve an outside table at one of the waterfront restaurants by Sydney Harbour Bridge for a front-row seat.

The local view: Alternatively, motor out to Cockatoo Island and set up a moonlit picnic in preparation for the show; you can even camp or glamp there for the night, as long as you book a spot in advance. New Year’s Eve without the end-of-night battle for a taxi? Yes, please.

Where to stay: All about the pyrotechnics? The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney overlooks Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. For a more local feel, book the new Paramount House Hotel in inner-city foodie hub Surry Hills. An industrial concrete-and-copper aesthetic meets furniture, bathroom products – and beer – by independent Aussie makers.

Beirut, Lebanon

The main event: Beirut ’s legendary party scene makes for a memorable outing any night of the year, but in 2017/2018 the city elected to put on an official shindig in its streets, and immediately landed on various ‘best of’ lists – prompting it to go even bigger in the following years. Place de l’Etoile is packed with merrymakers, as live bands, DJs and fireworks ring in the next decade, and a spectacular light show beams out of the square’s 1933 Art Deco clocktower. This being Beirut, things don’t typically wind down until after dawn.

The local view: The city’s nightlife scene has more than its fair share of bling-bling clubs, but to get among the Beiruti in-crowd, bar hopping in hip Gemmayzeh and neighbouring Mar Mikhael is where it’s at. The latter’s Anise is a firm favourite, where craft cocktails are concocted with Lebanese spirit arak and locally foraged herbs.

Where to stay: The Albergo – by Relais & Châteaux – is steeped in old-world charm, from its antique-furnished rooms to the orange juice in a Murano glass jug and macarons brought to your room when you arrive.

Copenhagen, Denmark

The main event: When the clock strikes 12, the ordinarily restrained Danes gather at Town Hall Square for a rowdy, BYO bacchanal of popping champagne corks, whooshing rockets and fizzing Roman candles. For a slightly more orderly take, twinkly Tivoli Gardens lights up the sky with its own Firework Festival; its restaurants serve New Year’s dinners; and the roller coasters are open – plus, plenty of glögg stalls serve liquid courage.

The local view: Watch how Copenhageners abandon hygge for hedonism on New Year’s Eve as thousands of merry folk take to the streets to light their own fireworks just after midnight. A favoured local spot to watch the mayhem – which is loud, raucous and just a tad nerve-wracking – is Queen Louise’s Bridge, which stretches across The Lakes, in the heart of the city.

Where to stay: Hotel Sanders , on a quiet street just a short walk from ever-lively Nyhavn, is enchanting. Style-wise, it combines Danish mid-century modern and British Colonial (wickerwork here and there, palms in pots), and there’s a fifth-floor conservatory with views over the city.

New Orleans, USA

The main event: Missed out on Mardi Gras? These New Year’s Eve celebrations capture the same riotous spirit, glittering extravagance, and explosive sense of fun that makes New Orleans so special. The city was, rightfully so, one of our top destinations to visit in 2022 , and will still be right up until the stroke of midnight on 31 December. Spend the afternoon at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Parade, which is as festive and festooned as you’d expect, before heading down to Jackson Square to watch the Fleur De Lis drop (the city’s answer to NYC’s ball drop) and the fireworks over the Mississippi.

The local view: Combine two long-standing New Orleans traditions – jazz bands and balcony parties – with a trip to the French Quarter. Bag a ticket to one of the exclusive events held in Bourbon Street’s bars and restaurants and spend the night dining, drinking and dancing high above the crowds.

Where to stay: The city is groaning with quirky hotels and Airbnbs; for one-of-a-kind rooms and colourful decor right by the French Quarter, make a reservation at The Eliza Jane . If your New Year’s Day hangover demands a little peace and quiet, hole up in one of the private Audubon Cottages , where a butler will deliver breakfast to your door.

The main event: Some say Goa ’s parties are not what they used to be. We say it’s still hard to beat dancing on the beach , with the sand between your toes and fairy lights strung on every palm tree, sequinned sari skirts twirling under the stars. And New Year’s Eve is the best time of year to party in Goa, with fireworks and celebrations all along the coast of India’s good-time state. Inevitably, the biggest and loudest bashes tend to be centred around Anjuna, where world-class DJs play to huge crowds long into the night.

The local view: For a more intimate party, head to Palolem, in the south. This jungle-lined bay is dotted with ramshackle beach bars that join up for a night of psy-trance tunes and EDM, free-flowing cocktails and fireworks at midnight.

Where to stay: On the beach in Candolim, not far from Anjuna, Park Inn is an all-white, contemporary pad with 30 bedrooms, cabanas on the poolside deck, a private beach and DJs playing Balearic beats (welcome news for anyone not a fan of Goa trance) in the open-air bar.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The main event: It’s practically midsummer in Rio de Janeiro this time of year, which is why many partygoers shun sweaty indoor clubs and take the party to the beach instead. A whopping two million people gather on the 2.5-mile-long Copacabana for samba, Champagne and fireworks on New Year’s Eve – to find a good spot, start staking your place from 10pm. It’s customary to wear white in Rio on NYE – said to bring luck for the New Year. But perhaps leave your favourite clothes at home, unless you don’t mind getting doused with Champagne, sprayed F1-style by rapturous crowds.

The local view: Lifeguard stations along the beach are called ‘postos’; in-the-know types recommend setting up between Postos 5 and 6. This is the final stretch of Copacabana, so it’s not quite as crowded; plus, it’s walking distance from the parties at neighbouring Ipanema, where many revellers head after the countdown fireworks.

Where to stay: To go all out, Belmond Copacabana Palace has exclusive views of the action (and a price tag to match). For something more affordable but with similarly breathtaking views, the Mama Ruisa hotel is a lovely guesthouse with a vintage, homely feel.

fun states to visit for new years

When it comes to holiday celebrations, New Year's Eve stands out as one of the most exciting and unifying. The annual countdown to a fresh start brings together people from all walks of life, with everyone sharing the joy and anticipation of a new beginning.

This year, we've curated a list of big-city destinations hosting fireworks and parties, as well as quieter places for more intimate experiences, nature, and wellness. From metropolises with massive celebrations to charming mountain towns, these are the best places to go for New Year's Eve.

New Year’s Eve in Scotland is also known as Hogmanay , a celebration featuring street parties, fireworks, concerts, and Scottish traditions like ceilidh dancing and singing "Auld Lang Syne.” While the holiday takes place on December 31, the festivities often extend beyond that — especially in the country’s capital of Edinburgh. The city’s two main ticketed events are Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party and the Torchlight Procession through the Old Town. Between all the revelry, you’ll want to participate in some of Scotland’s cherished New Year’s traditions including “first footing,” a belief that the first person to enter someone’s home in the new year brings good luck.

One of the first major cities in the world to welcome the new year, Sydney hosts the biggest New Year's Eve celebration in Australia — its spectacular fireworks display draws more than a million people to Sydney Harbour and surrounding areas. The big event starts around 7:30 p.m. with various ceremonies, projections, and a parade of illuminated boats before the grand finale. The best vantage points, including Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House, fill up quickly, so aim to arrive by 5 p.m. at the latest if you want to snag a good spot.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Begin the new year by hitting the slopes and crossing off two of the country's best national parks during one epic trip. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers a number of wintry events leading up to New Year's Eve, when visitors can watch fireworks in Teton Village. You can choose from more than 130 ski and snowboard trails and take lessons if your resolution is to improve your skills. Opt for a luxurious stay at Amangani or Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole , and take day trips to nearby Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park .

Sedona, Arizona

Not in the mood to party? Start the year refreshed and rejuvenated with a relaxing wellness vacation in Sedona, Arizona . The region is famous for its stunning red rock formations and vortexes — centers of energy believed to support healing and self-reflection — making it a perfect place for a transformative getaway in nature. Many of the area's spa and wellness centers, like L'Auberge de Sedona , offer packages that include everything from reiki to sound healing. And the weather never gets too cold, even in December and January, so you can also get active outdoors between yoga classes and meditation sessions. On January 1, consider joining one of the First Day Hikes led by rangers and volunteers from Arizona State Parks and Trails .

Japanese New Year, Shōgatsu , is one of the country’s most important holidays, with celebrations often beginning as early as December 30 and lasting until January 3. But unlike other cities that host massive parties, the atmosphere in Tokyo is more reflective and spiritual when the clock strikes midnight. Many temples open their doors on New Year’s Eve to allow people to visit, pray, and listen to the ringing of the bells. As part of the annual ritual, the monks ring the bells 108 times (eight times to bid farewell to the old and 100 times to welcome the new) from around 10:30 p.m. to just after midnight. Those looking for a more rowdy scene can head to Shibuya, which typically hosts a countdown celebration and street party with live entertainment.

It’s not difficult to find a good party in London, and New Year’s Eve is no exception. The United Kingdom’s capital city is known for its elaborate fireworks display near the London Eye (keep in mind that this is a ticketed event and tends to be very crowded). Prefer to stay cozy inside? Depending on your preferences, you can find everything from pubs with live music to flashy dance clubs that keep the fun going all night. For a different view of the city’s landmarks and fireworks, hop on a River Thames cruise , where you can eat, drink, and dance the night away while Big Ben chimes in the background.

Say bonjour to the new year in the City of Light. Head to the Champs-Elysées, which typically hosts a light and sound show near the Arc de Triomphe, or take in the view of the city (including any fireworks) from the steps of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Other popular places to celebrate include the banks of the Seine, Disneyland Paris , and cabaret and burlesque theaters like Crazy Horse and The Moulin Rouge . In France, New Year's Eve is known as Réveillon de la Saint Sylvestre and typically includes a feast — so you also can't go wrong with a delicious meal and some champagne.

Park City, Utah

Step into a real-life snow globe at Park City Mountain Resort , which boasts over 7,300 skiable acres and trails for beginners and experts. The resort often hosts New Year's Eve après-ski celebrations, including fireworks and live music, and the fun continues at the bars and restaurants on Park City's Main Street. Stick around in January to visit the Ice Castles — frozen structures with ice tunnels, sculptures, and more — in nearby Midway and check out the historic old town. Deer Valley, about a five-minute drive south of Park City, is home to several luxury hotels, including Montage , Stein Eriksen Lodge , and The St. Regis . Each of these properties has a spa and plenty of places to cozy up after a day on the slopes.

The Palm Beaches, Florida

Pack your swimsuit and welcome the new year in Florida's sunny Palm Beaches. The Square in West Palm Beach offers shopping, dining, and nightly light shows. And on New Year's Eve, guests can usually catch live music by the Wishing Tree , a 32-foot banyan tree illuminated with 10,000 LEDs. Many of the area's big resorts, like The Boca Raton and The Breakers , host their own New Year's Eve bashes, but you can also find smaller shindigs at rooftop bars and restaurants in downtown West Palm Beach. Before and after New Year's Day, get a dose of culture at The Norton Museum of Art , which hosts Art After Dark events on Friday nights, or enjoy a moment of zen at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens .

Why not ring in the new year in the Eternal City? Rome has an undeniably festive atmosphere on New Year's Eve — simply head to one of the city's magnificent piazzas to join in on the fun. Consider arriving earlier in the month to take in the last of the holiday markets. (Note that many museums, shops, and restaurants are closed on New Year's Day, but there will still be plenty to do.) Hotel de Russie , Rome Cavalieri , and The St. Regis Rome are all solid places to stay.

Rio de Janeiro

Samba into January on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, where an open-air New Year’s Eve party draws millions to the beautiful Brazilian city. You’ll want to wear white for good luck and arrive a few hours before the countdown to secure a spot on the sand. After the fireworks, head to some of the bars in Ipanema, where the party continues until the morning. Looking for a glamorous hotel to view the action from afar? Stay at Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel , which overlooks the beach and often hosts its own chic soirees.

Telluride, Colorado

For a small-town experience with great skiing, head to Telluride . The town typically displays fireworks over the slopes on New Year's Eve, and visitors can partake in winter sports (fat biking, sledding, ice climbing, snowmobiling, and more) during the day and cozy up by the fire at night. Luxury accommodations include Fairmont Heritage Place, Franz Klammer Lodge and the Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection , but travelers on a budget can enjoy the privacy of an Airbnb cabin or condo.

Grab your heaviest coat and head to Iceland for a New Year's Eve celebration packed with fireworks in a stunning, snow-covered setting. Enjoy a night of partying in the capital city of Reykjavik, and spend the next day recovering in one of the country's famous hot springs , like the Blue Lagoon. Of course, you'll want to extend your stay to check out Iceland's famous attractions — the Golden Circle looks especially beautiful in the winter — and stay up to catch a glimpse of the northern lights before heading home.

Culinary enthusiasts may want to spend their New Year's Eve exploring the foodie side of Las Vegas. Many of the city's best restaurants offer special NYE packages. Plus, people who visit Vegas at the end of December will still have the chance to see some of the Strip's best holiday decorations. Go to a rooftop bar to get a good view of the fireworks, which are launched from different casinos around midnight. Can't decide where to stay? The Wynn , Waldorf Astoria , Four Seasons Hotel , and The Venetian Resort are some of the best hotels in Sin City.

New York City

The Big Apple attracts attention year-round, but it's even more dazzling on New Year’s Eve. All eyes are on Times Square when the ball drops at midnight , and those willing to brave the cold and the crowds are rewarded with a joyful atmosphere. Even if you don’t attend the main event, you’ll find no shortage of parties, fireworks, and alternative ways to mark the occasion. Go on a New Year’s Eve walking tour across the Brooklyn Bridge with NYC Walks , catch a concert, or party on a boat cruise around New York Harbor.

12 BEST PLACES TO GO FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE IN THE USA

Snow in Times Square, NYC Christmas, New York City, USA

We have rounded up the best places in the USA for New Year’s Eve. From iconic locations to family-friendly getaways, our list of places to go for New Year’s in the US has a destination for everyone!

#1 New York New Year’s Eve

NYC View from Water on Staten Island Ferry, NY, USA

This wouldn’t be a list of the best places to go on New Year’s Eve if we didn’t start with the most famous New Year’s destination in the world: New York City. For decades, revelers have descended on New York for New Year’s Eve to watch the legendary Times Square Ball Drop.

Additionally, New York is beautiful during the holidays – lights and trees decorate the city through the New Year. Use our guide to the Best Things To Do in NYC at Christmas for more on what to see, do and eat.

What To Do for New Year’s Eve in New York City

Christmas NYC Skyline View, New York City, USA

Ironically, even though NYC tops our list as the best place to celebrate New Year’s in USA, we don’t necessarily recommend celebrating in Times Square. We think the Times Square New Year’s Eve Party is too crowded and too chaotic – but that’s just us.

While Times Square is touted as one of the best places to go for New Year’s in NYC, we think there are so many better options for your Trip to New York .

NYC’s best hotels, clubs and rooftop restaurants host illustrious New Year parties – complete with dancing, DJs and bubbly drinks. Tickets tend to be on the pricey side, but for the party of the year, it just might be worth it!

Setting off on a New Year’s Eve boat cruise in New York Harbor is fabulous way to spend the evening. Passengers enjoy a delicious dinner, NYC skyline views, dancing and fireworks.

If you are on a Budget NYC Trip or looking for a fun kid-friendly way to celebrate New Year’s in New York, watch the fireworks from Central Park or go to Prospect Park in Brooklyn for their firework display. Central Park is also the site of the 4-mile NYRR Midnight Run, which starts at the same time the Times Square Ball drops.

Tips for Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Times Square

If celebrating in a sea of people in Times Square is on your NYC bucket list, make sure to plan ahead. The event is first come, first serve and people start gathering mid-afternoon.

Be sure to dress for the NYC winter weather and keep in mind that there are no public restrooms, no food and no alcohol in Times Square for NYE. Also, if you leave the secure area, you may not be able to get back in.

#2 New Orleans New Year’s Trips

NYE in New Orleans LA

The energy in New Orleans is exceptional – and it’s just one of the many reasons why we think New Orleans is one of the best places to spend New Year’s. NOLA hosts a grand party for their New Year celebration, and the top venues feature live music as well as heaps of fun family events.

Furthermore, New Orleans can be one of the warm places to travel for New Year’s – making it an excellent destination for visitors from frigid locales. The warmer weather is not only ideal for NYE, but also for New Orleans Sightseeing .

What To Do in New Orleans for New Year’s Eve

WINTER IN NOLA

The night’s biggest celebration takes place in Jackson Square in the famed French Quarter. The festivities – which are free to attend – feature live music, a midnight Fleur-de-Lis drop and a view of the fireworks.

For a perfect view of the NYE fireworks in New Orleans, however, hop aboard a riverboat cruise or stake out your spot at Crescent Park.

NOLA’s most famous party district, Bourbon Street, is a place that doesn’t disappoint on NYE. Partygoers can attend one of the Balcony Bashes, where beads are certain to be flying and libations will be flowing.

Visitors and families in search of New Year’s Eve daytime events in New Orleans have plenty to choose from. The annual Sugar Bowl Parade is excellent afternoon entertainment – and there are activities for kids at the Audubon Zoo and Louisiana Children’s Museum during the day, as well.

In addition to the exhilarating Vegas events hosted by the hottest hotels on The Strip, visitors can discover Sin City’s best attractions and activities. We highlight all you need to know in our complete Guide to Las Vegas .

Downtown Freemont Street is another extravaganza of revelers for off-Strip entertainment.

#12 Orlando New Year’s Eve Vacations

NYE in Orlando FL

We already listed Miami as one of the best places in Florida for New Year’s Eve, but it would be remiss not to mention another top Florida NYE destination: Orlando.

A popular pick for places to go for New Year’s Eve with family, Orlando actually boasts a long list of ‘Out with the Old, In with the New’ activities for all visitors.

How To Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Orlando

Orlando Skyline at Night, FL, USA

It doesn’t get much better than celebrating the biggest night of the year in The Most Magical Place On Earth: Walt Disney World. Three of the theme parks stay open until midnight – including Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

Two other Orlando theme parks – SeaWorld and Universal – host special events on New Year’s Eve during the day. Visitors can also join one of the many parties at the Universal Resort properties to ring in new year.

While the theme parks are an obvious pick for New Year’s Eve celebrations, there are Orlando NYE parties at restaurants, theaters and hotels.

One of the coolest places to be on NYE is the Orlando ICEBAR, where DJs and musical acts keep the party going well past midnight. The adult-only Thornton Park Street Party promises a rocking event that covers 2.5 city blocks, with general admission and special VIP packages!

8 BEST PLACES TO SPEND NEW YEAR’S EVE ABROAD

Evening View of Sydney Opera House, Australia

Cities in the United States are not the only top places to visit for New Year’s. Actually, some of the fun places to travel for New Year’s Eve are abroad. We are highlighting the best places to go for New Year’s Eve in Europe, Australia and Asia!

#13 Sydney, Australia: Top New Year’s Vacations

Sydney Harbour at Sunset, Australia

One of the world-famous places to go on New Year’s Eve is Sydney, Australia. When the clock strikes twelve, Sydney enthralls over 1 million spectators with a spectacular display of pyrotechnics. The fireworks over Sydney Harbour are regularly voted as the Best Fireworks New Year’s Eve in the world .

The annual event takes place in Sydney Harbour, where fireworks synchronized to music are launched from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and surrounding buildings. Because it is a kid-friendly event (there’s even an early 9pm firework event for the wee little ones), it is one of the top places to go for New Year’s Eve with family.

Sunset at the Harbour Bridge Sydney Australia

Visitors can watch the show on a Sydney New Year Harbour Cruise, from the Royal Botanical Garden, the Taronga Zoo, a high-rise Sydney hotel and the many free vantage points along the water. Bear in mind that the popular event attracts enormous crowds and the ticketed entry points are extremely pricey (some cruises are upwards of $1000).

That said, there are other places to go on New Year’s Eve in Sydney. The New Year’s Eve in the Park music festival is a fun event, as is the Lost Paradise Festival.

#14 Madrid, Spain: Best New Year Destinations

Wedding couple on balcony in Plaza Mayor in Madrid, Spain

On our first year of around-the-world travels, we heard that Madrid was one of the best European cities to visit for New Year’s Eve – so we decided to spend a Week in Spain for our first New Year’s Eve abroad.

The problem was, we didn’t do enough research…and our attempts to celebrate in Madrid failed miserably. You can read the details of our botched New Year in Madrid – and how to avoid our mistakes!

What we later learned is that Madrid is one of the best places to visit in Europe for New Year’s Eve for the late-night parties . The party-til-dawn revelry is, in fact, what makes Madrid one of the best New Year’s Eve destinations.

The celebrations start at midnight in the famed Puerta del Sol, where crowds gather to count down to midnight and eat 12 grapes for good luck. It is only after the New Year kisses that the New Year’s Eve party – called cotillon – begins. Madrid’s best nightclubs host parties where you can dance until dawn.

#15 Reykjavik, Iceland: Best NYE Destinations

City views, Reykjavik, Iceland, winter

Looking for unique New Year travel ideas? Consider traveling to Reykjavik, Iceland. Although it can get cold, Iceland in Winter is divine with its snow-covered landscapes, frozen waterfalls and intriguing Icelandic Cuisine .

What makes Reykjavik one of the best places for New Year’s Eve in Europe is the raging bonfires, lax laws regarding fireworks and all-night parties.

Like all things in Iceland, there is some quirkiness to how they ring in the new year – and the oddities are what make it one of the interesting places to visit for New Year’s.

For example, locals are at home at 10:30 at night to watch a popular comedy show on television. At midnight, however, people bundle up and go out to the streets to set off their fireworks (often in front of the Hallgrimskirkja Church) and toast with a bottle of champagne or even Reykjavik Craft Beer !

Visitors can mingle on their own – or join a Reykjavik New Year’s Eve tour. Guides take tourists to the best bonfires and fireworks events and there are evening cruises, as well!

#16 Paris, France: Best New Year’s Eve Vacations

Red Christmas Lights decorate trees on Champs Elysees leading to Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France

Without a doubt, Paris is one of the best places in Europe for New Year’s Eve. The evening is celebrated with gourmet dinners, river cruises, cabaret performances, superb shows and a gathering on Champs Elysees to see the light show at the Arc de Triomphe.

That said, our top pick for New Year’s Eve in Paris is being at the Eiffel Tower at midnight when a special light show illuminates the sky. The Champ de Mars and Trocadero are the two best viewing points.

Visitors who want to celebrate NYE in Paris with DJs and dancing should check out the city’s best nightclubs – like Wanderlust and Rex.

In our opinion, Paris is not only one of the prime places to visit during New Year’s Eve for the evening celebrations, but in general, we enjoy Traveling To Paris in the winter for the lighter crowds.

#17 London, England: New Year’s Eve Getaways

Big Ben and Palace of Westminster Parliament Building at sunset, London, England, jetsettingfools.com

London is another place that is often touted as the best city for New Year’s Eve in Europe – and we can personally attest to it being a fun place to be on the last night of the year!

While NYE cruises, exquisite dining and chic parties are top places to go in London for New Year’s Eve, we opted to bring in the new year at the city’s impressive fireworks display.

Standing on the Westminster Bridge over the River Thames , we counted down the final seconds of the year along with Big Ben and then watched the flurry of fireworks.

Be sure to read our advice on how to plan your perfect London Itinerary , plus  London Over The Holidays is one of the Best Places in Europe for Christmas !.

#18 Bangkok, Thailand: Fun Place to Go for NYE

Khao San Road at night in Bangkok, Thailand

Trips to Bangkok are always thrilling – the sights, scents and sounds are like nowhere else in the world. Always buzzing, Bangkok also ranks as one of the best New Year’s vacations.

Between glitzy Bangkok rooftop parties, firework extravaganzas and the non-stop party on Khao San Road, visitors are spoiled for choice about how to spend NYE in the city of angels.

While some NYE venues can be pricey, generally speaking, Bangkok is one of the cheap places for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

If you are traveling from afar, we recommend spending a Few Days in Bangkok , then navigating your way around the rest of amazing Thailand. Give yourself at least 2 Weeks in Thailand to discover the top destinations (like Phuket or Chiang Mai ) and time to relax on the Best Thai Beaches .

#19 Edinburgh, Scotland: Great Places for New Year’s

Calton Hill View, Essential Edinburgh, Scotland

The Medieval City of Edinburgh is well-known for it’s incredible festivals – and the Edinburgh Hogmanay is a NYE Festival like no other! Steeped in tradition and marked by the singing of ‘Auld Lang Syne’ (which was written by famed Scottish poet Robert Burns) the end-of-year event in Edinburgh makes it one of the best places to go for New Year’s.

Hogmanay – Scottish New Year’s Eve – is one of the most renowned celebrations in the world. The 3-day, outdoor event features a torchlight procession, street parties, musical concerts, fireworks and a polar plunge.

With such fanfare, there is no doubt that Edinburgh is one of the prime places for NYE!

#20 Madeira Island, Portugal: Tropical New Year Destinations

View of the Funchal Seafront, Madeira, Portugal

When pondering where to go for New Year’s, an isolated island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean might not be the first place that comes to mind. But, without a doubt, Madeira is one of the enthralling places to go for New Year’s Eve!

Madeira, Portugal is an island of epic landscapes, quaint seaside villages and absolutely delicious food . The island experiences mild weather in the winter (still warm on the coast but can get just a dusting of snow on the mountains), which lures visitors from cold climates.

However, the top reason why Madeira ranks as one of the best places to visit for New Year’s Eve is for the outstanding NYE celebration. The party on Madeira starts in early December with festivals and events and culminates with a New Year’s Eve event marked by an astounding fireworks display in Funchal .

The prime place to view the spectacular sparklers is from the sea – and booking an NYE Madeira Cruise is a marvelous way to ring in the New Year!

12 Best Places In The US To Celebrate New Years With Kids, According To Our Research

Family celebrating New Year's Eve

Despite its reputation as a raucous, all-night event (hello, Times Square), New Year's Eve doesn't have to be limited to adults-only celebrations. In fact, there are plenty of kid-friendly parties across the country geared towards families who want to get in on the action without risking over-tired meltdowns or having to survive a mosh pit of a crowd in order to see fireworks. Many of these fun shindigs take place during the day, while others are set to start the night at a more reasonable time for those hoping to get their kids in bed early(ish).

From a beach ball drop at Panama City Beach to a Noon Year's Eve countdown at the Louisiana Children's Museum in New Orleans to fireworks that start at 8 p.m. in Atlanta, families are in for a treat this December 31. And if all goes well, their little ones will be happily tucked in with enough time left over for their parents to watch a ball drop on TV from the cozy comfort of their hotel (or living) room.

We chose these locations based on the number of kid-friendly attractions and options — and these 12 had more than every other place we reviewed. We contacted each place directly to ensure they were still holding the events as detailed online. These spots have specific, kid-friendly offerings that went above and beyond, turning the mundane into a family-friendly NYE event that kids will beg to return to. They make it special enough that kids will feel as if they're part of the main event, even if that really happens at noon. Here are some of the best places in the U.S. to celebrate New Year's with kids.

Orlando, Florida

Orlando is packed with so many kid-friendly places to visit that it can be tricky to know where to start. A haven for amusement park aficionados, you'll find two of the best, most popular theme parks in the United States in this central Florida locale — Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. Lucky for parents, both put on spectacular events to help ring in the new year.

Few places know how to welcome kids to the party better than Walt Disney World. From thrill rides to character meet and greets to fantastical shows, there's no limit to the fun that can be had at the Most Magical Place on Earth, especially if you plan your trip well. It doesn't hurt that Walt Disney World boasts some of the best NYE fireworks in the world . Both Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot put on special New Year's Eve fireworks shows. These get loud, so you may want to consider giving your child earplugs to dilute the cacophony.  Universal Orlando Resort is another buzzy spot to welcome the new year. You'll find fireworks and a countdown here, too, as well as Universal's Holiday Parade. Hoping to call it an early night? Check out LEGOLAND Florida Resort's Kids New Year's Eve.  Fireworks start early, usually around 8 p.m.

Panama City Beach, Florida

A popular Spring Break destination, Panama City Beach is one of Florida's most underrated budget-friendly beaches . It also plays host to an epic New Year's Eve party. Well, technically, it's two parties, as the first is designed to please little ones who can't make it to midnight. Known as the Kids' Beach Ball Drop, 10,000 inflated beach balls are floated down to revelers on the sand at a more palatable time of 8 p.m. This happens at South Pier Park Drive and includes a countdown, so kids can feel like they're really part of the fun. A few fireworks will also be set off at this time.

If you really want to make an evening out of it, head to Pier Park early. The streets are closed to traffic and lined with enough entertainment to keep even the pickiest of kids happy. Live music begins at 5:35 p.m. in front of Celebration Tower, and you'll find a slew of games, food vendors, shops, and kid-friendly activities. If you think your kids can make it to midnight, they'll be wowed by more fireworks and a massive, glowing beach ball being lowered to truly welcome the New Year.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is one of the best places in the world to celebrate New Year's Eve , and we're not just talking about the rowdy happenings on Bourbon Street. Honestly, though, would you expect anything less than an epic party from a city known for its Mardi Gras celebrations? Parents who'd rather take it easy this year will love the variety of family-friendly festivities on offer. Louisiana Children's Museum is a must-visit attraction for a New Year's celebration with kids. The party here rages from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with enough dancing, face-painting, games, and crafts to please kids and adults of all ages. The noon-time countdown ends in a colorful explosion of confetti and bubbles, perfect for firework-averse kids. Tickets go on sale in late November and cost $14 per member or $24 for non-members.

A super fun Noon Year's Eve Bash also takes place at the Children's Museum of St. Tammany, which lies across Lake Pontchartrain from downtown. About 45 minutes away by car, this is an easy place to visit for a day trip. Festivities, which include a live concert and entry to the museum's attractions, begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

Hershey, Pennsylvania

Sweeten your New Year's celebrations with a trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania. Start your day at the Little Elves Workshop at The Hershey Story Museum on Chocolate Avenue, where kids can make ornaments from chocolate clay from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Next up are chocolate tastings, which last until 4:30 p.m., and a New Year's Eve Countdown that includes bubble wrap stomps on the outdoor patio at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Let kids dance off their sugar rush at Hershey New Year's Eve, which is held in downtown's central Chocolate Square. There are plenty of bands primed to sing you into the next annum, along with a countdown to raising a 300-pound Hershey's Kiss at midnight with help from Hershey's characters.

December 31 is the last night for Hershey Park Christmas Candylane, a definite kid-pleaser packed with festive activities, including 5 million twinkling lights and 2 miles of wooded trails illuminated by 600 animated displays in the Hershey Sweet Lights exhibit. Select rides are open on New Year's Day, weather permitting, and kids can also visit their favorite animals in ZooAmerica Wildlife Park between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Hershey's Chocolate World is open later for those who'd like to extend the day — it closes at 9 p.m. Take a factory tour, enjoy Hershey's Great Candy Expedition cinematic adventure, and stuff your own one-pound Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Beware of the ensuing sugar high!

Atlanta, Georgia

There are plenty of fun ways to ring in the New Year with kids in Atlanta. Whether you're hoping to do a morning countdown or see fireworks at 8 p.m., you and your little ones will feel like you've gotten in on the celebratory action while still managing to hit the hay at an early enough time to avoid January 1 meltdowns. The annual New Year's Eve Bash at the Battery is a beloved family event. Early Inning festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a concert on the Georgia Power Pavilion State. At 8 p.m., inflatable balloons drop to ring in the (early) New Year, and at 9 p.m., the Late Inning fun takes hold, with more live music before a firework and confetti display over Truist Park at midnight.

Hoping to celebrate a bit earlier? The New Year's Bubble Bash is "Atlanta's favorite NYE party for families." A haven for kids who like to party, dance, and play, there are enough activities on hand to keep them happily occupied until it's time for the countdown to bubble-wrap popping at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. The Peach Drop is another exciting New Year's event best enjoyed by older kids or those who don't mind crowds — over 100,000 visitors attend this event. Held at Underground Atlanta, the giant peach weighs over 800 pounds and takes 58 seconds to drop from the tower. Expect carnival rides, live music, and plenty of food vendors.

Seattle, Washington

A better fit for older kids or those who don't mind hanging out in the cold surrounded by thousands, the Seattle Space Needle boasts a lights and drone display as well as fireworks. Known as T-Mobile New Year's At The Needle, this is one of the world's largest structurally launched fireworks presentations and it's best viewed from the neighboring Seattle Center. Arrive by 11:30 p.m. to ensure you find a place to watch or head out earlier to visit the Needle's Observation Deck; the revolving glass floor is pretty impressive unless anyone in your family has a fear of heights. While the fireworks are free, heading inside the Needle isn't. Buy tickets in advance, especially since it closes early.

KidsQuest Museum hosts the popular New Year's Eve Countdown four different times on December 31, making it super easy to plan your celebration around nap time. Located in Bellevue, this museum is popping with activities on the big day, like face painting and a bubble wrap stomp. It's located a 30-minute drive across Lake Washington. If you're up for an exciting trip that involves a ferry ride, visit KiDiMu (Kids Discovery Museum). Located on Bainbridge Island, a 35-minute ferry ride across Elliott Bay from downtown, KiDiMu welcomes kids of all ages to enjoy a countdown to noon, with plenty of party crafts and entertainment like sock skating on a faux ice rink, confetti cannons, noisemakers, and a dance party. This fun-filled celebration lasts from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Boston, Massachusetts

Ice sculptures, pyrotechnics, and concerts! There's a lot of excitement happening at First Night Boston. The most famous New Year's Celebration in Beantown, this iconic party has been thrown since 1976, and it is not to be missed. A word of warning: It will get crowded — over 1 million visitors typically attend this event. Worried about your little ones getting overwhelmed? Aim to arrive earlier in the evening. The First Night Parade (aka the People's Procession Parade) begins at 6 p.m., where colorful and celebratory groups" will walk from City Hall Plaza to Boston Common, wearing all sorts of fabulous costumes. At 7 p.m., fireworks are set off over the Common, allowing plenty of time for parents to wrangle tired, over-stimulated kiddos back to the hotel before things get even busier downtown.

If your kids are older or simply raring to go, you can take them to see the free concerts, performers, and the pyrotechnics show that happens at 11:59 p.m. over City Hall Plaza. At midnight, more fireworks can be seen lighting up the skyline over Boston Harbor, launched from The North End Waterfront and Seaport. Remember to bundle up, because it can get cold!

San Diego, California

The San Diego Zoo is sure to thrill visitors of all ages with its Jungle Bells exhibition. New Year's Eve is the last night for the zoo's music, holiday decor, entertainment, tempting treats, and lighting display, so this is a perfect time for families to visit. A great place to spend an entire day , the zoo's event ends at 8 p.m. While in town, visit LEGOLAND California Resort on New Year's Eve. Here, families can enjoy all the rides, shows, and meet and greets you'd expect from the famous amusement park, with the added bonus of attending San Diego's largest Kids' New Year's Eve Party. A 40-minute drive north of the city, this is an easy day trip destination from San Diego. Plus, midnight is celebrated much earlier here (at 6 p.m.), so there's plenty of time to get home for bed.

Hotel Del Coronado, known locally as The Del, often hosts family-friendly parties on New Year's Eve. At 7:30 p.m., they play a movie in their theater under the stars. For $25 each, families can enjoy the film from the comfort of a sand chair, and an extra fee will get you a private bonfire primed for s'more-making. Once kids are jazzed up from watching a flick outside, they'll be rewarded with a fireworks show just for them.

Austin, Texas

When it comes to, well, pretty much anything, Texans like to approach things with a "go big or go home" mentality. When that anything is New Year's Eve, you can bet there will be some spectacular events for families. The New Year's Eve Balloon Drop happens twice on New Year's Eve at Playland Skate Center — 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. — making it easy to work around busy schedules. For $13, each family member can rollerskate to their heart's content (well, between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.) while waiting for the balloons to fall. Arrive early if you want free party favors.

Indigo Play is a safe and fun indoor play center popular with little ones. Its Noon Year's Eve Party runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features a balloon drop at noon, games, free pizza, and a champagne toast for parents. The kids get sparkling juice, for the record. One of the biggest parties in town is the annual Austin's New Year Celebration, hosted at Auditorium Shores. This is where you'll find live music, fantastic food, and a massive fireworks display to ring in the new year. As with any big celebration in a large city, though, be prepared to share your experience with hordes of people. Much of the lawn is left open, so go early to find a spot and pack chairs and a blanket.

Yosemite National Park, California

Tenaya Lodge knows that New Year's Eve isn't only for adults. That's why this lovely resort in Yosemite National Park hosts a special NYE celebration just for kids. Actually, it offers two parties geared towards their youngest guests. First up is the Kids' "Camp Out" party. Designed for children aged 9 to 14, this fun event includes camp games like archery, crafts, songs, and even potato sack races. Next is the resort's Kids' "Wild Safari" party. A happening spot for little ones aged 4 to 8, children are welcome to participate in a scavenger hunt for hidden "gold," trek through safari animal play huts, and make their own wild animal masks. There are snacks, drinks, and plenty of games involved. Tickets cost $75 per child, and the events run from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, parents can enjoy more upscale, adult-centric events (like gaming tables and a lavish, plated dinner) with a final champagne toast and balloon drop before collecting their kids. Tickets for this are $225 per adult. Worried about being separated from your kids when the clock strikes midnight? Don't. They'll be having so much fun they won't even notice you're gone. Plus, you can spend most of the day together making memories while hiking, ice skating in Curry Village, building a snowman, or skiing and snow tubing at Badger Pass Ski Area.

Mount Olive, North Carolina

Be warned; your kids may talk about Mount Olive's Pickle Drop for years after they first experience it. In addition to a falling pickle (that's right, a glowing pickle falls into a giant brine tank at this unique event), families can enjoy live music, great food, and line dancing. The main countdown happens at 7 p.m. when the pickle is dropped from the top of Mount Olive's Volunteer Fire Department's Tower 23 ladder truck, accompanied by a fireworks display to prolong the drama. By the way, 7 p.m. is midnight in Greenwich Mean Time, so if your kids are clever enough to realize it's not really the new year, you can assure them that it's 12 o'clock somewhere.

The New Year's Eve festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a video screen counting down the "last" hours of the year from then until 7 p.m. so you'll know when it's time to stop grooving to the live music and head towards the giant pickle. As an aside, this is likely the only New Year's Eve party where attendees receive Mt. Olive Kosher Dill pickles along with noisemakers and hats. That's only fitting for a town named after a crudité staple.

Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg may not be as flashy as a big city like Boston on New Year's Eve, but that makes it one of the best places in the U.S. to celebrate New Year's with kids. Busch Gardens New Year's Eve Celebration is an unmissable family-friendly attraction during this holiday. Its remarkable Christmas Town boasts a fantastical light display, with over 10 million twinkling lights providing a stunning backdrop for New Year's festivities. Holiday shows, thrill rides, and special meals will be served on December 31, culminating in a fireworks show set to music. The park closes at 1 a.m., and the party is included with park admission.

Step back in time with a more unique experience at Colonial Williamsburg. Here, kids will learn what life was like for an 18th-century family at the Geddy House during the day, watch interesting historical performances and presentations, and enjoy a New Year's Eve brunch at Williamsburg Inn. Don't forget to grab a ticket for Hogmanay, an exciting and quirky concert toasting the New Year in true Scottish style.

Either way, we’ll have some great suggestions for the best places to travel for New Year’s Eve!

Key Takeaways

  • Party around the world and find your people in North or South America, Asia, Africa, or Europe; wherever the party takes you!

  • Experience the world’s most famous cities and skylines at their best.

New Year's Eve Ball Drop in Times Square

New York City

Times square ball drop.

The Big Apple is known worldwide for its Times Square Ball Drop ; there’s just no comparison to this celebration. Broadcast nationally as well as around the world, the countdown at Times Square is known as one of the largest New Year’s Eve celebrations in the United States. With live performances from 6 p.m. until countdown, Times Square offers one of our most famous New Year’s Eve traditions, as well as the most famous place for a midnight kiss.

It is best to get there early to grab a good spot to view the New Year’s Eve Ball, with many in attendance arriving as early as 2 or 3 p.m. The best view of the ball drop is from inside an area known as the “Bowtie” — an intersection of two triangles where Broadway and 7th Avenue meet. Locals know that the absolute best spot is between 42nd and 48th Streets, where you can easily see the New Year’s Eve ball drop as well as the jumbo video screens at 1 Times Square.

A few other tips for a successful night at Times Square: Dress for success! The weather in New York City can be unforgiving, especially around New Year’s Eve, so make sure you bundle up! Times Square participants usually end up standing outside for hours on end, so dress warm to make it through the night. It is also not possible to leave and re-enter the area before the ball drops. It is advisable to bring everything you’ll need to enjoy your evening and night. Also remember that there are no public restrooms in Times Square. Restaurants do not allow non-guests to use their restrooms, so be prepared to pay for a drink or small bite to enter.

If you are unable to get a good view of the ball drop, don’t worry. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that will be showing the festivities live on TV. You’re more than welcome to grab a seat at the bar and celebrate that way… if you can get a seat, that is!

Rooftop Bars

The best seat in the house is up! I prefer to watch the New Year’s fireworks displays from above, preferably with a cocktail in hand. Bar 54 at the Hyatt Centric in Times Square has a bird’s eye view of the festivities. You can watch the live performances and ball drop from 54 stories up with a champagne toast.

For an extra special view of the festivities, an exclusive New Year’s Eve VIP party at St. Cloud — the rooftop bar at Hotel Knickerbocker — is just 150 feet away from the Times Square Ball! Enjoy a DJ duet of the year’s top 40 hits as well as hip-hop stylings while sipping on a complimentary glass of bubbly. Or travel to Our Wicked Lady in East Williamsburg for a more low-key rooftop party, laid-back vibes, and disco music. Whatever your style is, New York City has endless possibilities to party up in the night sky amongst the famous skyline.

Fireworks Over Coney Island

A landmark destination in Brooklyn, the various amusement park structures and historic buildings at Coney Island provide the perfect backdrop for a dazzling fireworks show. Starting with an amazing display of over 8,000 LED lights , the famous Parachute Jump landmark and Ferris wheel will offer a digital burst of color, followed by the first fireworks show of 2024. For more family-friendly events, come early to experience the Abe Stark Skating Rink, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Thunderbolt roller coaster, and more. Free entertainment will also be available at the Steeplechase Plaza.

After taking in the fireworks spectacular, be sure to head over to Brooklyn Brewery’s Open Bar Dance Party to drink and dance the night away! Or if you’d rather skip the beer but keep the dancing, Parklife in Brooklyn is offering free events leading up to the countdown, as well as a dance party through midnight with DJ SUPES BASS. Admission is free with RSVP but not guaranteed, unless you purchase a $50 drinks package, which includes two house cocktails and a Prosecco toast at midnight.

If you want to spent New Years Eve on some other place in the U.S , there are lots of great places to choose from!

Many resorts and hotels will have NYE packages available to reserve a spot for fireworks with cocktails, live music, and exclusive street parties. Hop into one of Rio’s thousands of nightclubs and dance until morning with live entertainment and some of the best dancers in the world. Food is central to New Year’s celebrations in Japan, with special dishes designed to bring good fortune to those who eat them. Noodles are a symbol of long life across many Asian cultures, with toshikoshi soba (“buckwheat noodles”) symbolizing wishes of good luck and long life while breaking off the year’s misfortunes. Ozoni — a delicious stew with mochi, chicken, and vegetables — is a traditional first dish of the year and a staple New Year’s tradition in my household.

Joya No Kane : New Year’s Bells

An especially unique experience for New Year’s in Japan, Buddhist temples will ring their large bells 108 times just a few minutes before midnight. Everyone is welcome to join in the swim. There is no fee to participate and those who sign up will receive a certificate and a cup of warm soup after the dip.

New Year's fireworks lit up behind Big Ben in London

London, England

Fireworks over the london eye.

Listen to the historic and ultra-iconic Big Ben clock tower bells ring out at midnight, followed by the UK’s largest fireworks display at Westminster, near the also-iconic London Eye. Immerse yourself in the oh-so-British-queue experience and gather around the London Eye with the excitement and bustle of one of the biggest crowds of the year.

Cruise The Thames

For a more exclusive view of London’s world famous skyline, hop on board one of many cruises that will sail the Thames River . Watch the fireworks from aboard the London Rose, complete with a live DJ set, snacks, and a wide selection of beer, wines, and soft drinks. The affair will be strictly 12 and older, so those with younger children may need to find more family-friendly accommodations. Those looking for a longer pleasure cruise with onboard fine dining, I would recommend the New Year’s Eve Dinner and Thames Cruise aboard the Sarpedon . Enjoy an indulgent three-course meal before setting sail past London’s most iconic landmarks while enjoying live music and entertainment.

Club Nights In London

For those looking to party the night away, London has its own culture of clubs and events that is sure to impress. Promising views of the skyline and fireworks displays, the Madison rooftop bar in St. Paul’s has a complete night of live music, a three-course meal, and a champagne toast at midnight.

Wear connected headsets with multiple channels of classic party anthems and new hits and get into your own groove. There are also some great secluded places for you to celebrate NYE .

In a National Park

Summer may be the most popular time to visit our national parks, but there’s a lot to love about starting off the new year hiking, stargazing and generally being awed by nature in our national parks. Off the Beaten Path offers a six-day Grand Canyon New Year package that includes epic hikes, red rock jeep tours, colorful sunsets and a New Year’s toast at the historic El Tovar Hotel. Or, try the six-day Zion New Year’s Adventure from REI Adventures that allows guests to explore the landscapes of both Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks.

At the First Place to Welcome the New Year

Sydney, Australia receives the lion’s share of media attention for having one of the first celebrations of the new year. However, Tonga is the very first country to ring in the new year, a full three hours ahead of Sydney. Made up of more than 170 South Pacific islands, the main island and home to the Royal Palace is Tongatapu, a coral island with plenty of sandy beaches. Go for snorkeling, island hopping and sea kayaking in the protected lagoon. Hotels, like the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel , can be booked for under $100 per night.

At the Last Place to Welcome the New Year

Just 558 miles from Tonga, be among the last to welcome 2019 in American Samoa . Technically, the clock will last strike midnight on Baker Island in the South Pacific. However, Baker Island is uninhabited, so you’ll need to clink glasses an hour earlier in Pago Pago, American Samoa. Plan to snorkel and dive at the National Park of American Samoa, which is home to over 950 species of tropical fish. Two Dollar Beach is also a must-go for stunning coral reefs and underwater wildlife. Book a charter flight between Tongatapu and Pago Pago to celebrate New Year’s twice.

On a Cruise Ship

Leave all your meals, activities, and of course, your champagne toast, up to a cruise line as you sail the high seas to ring in the new year. Book an expedition cruise with Hurtigruten to enjoy wintry celebrations and fireworks all up and down the magical coast of Norway on New Year’s Eve. You’ll also enjoy colorful displays of the northern lights throughout your voyage. Or, go south to the Caribbean with an eight-day sail from Miami to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Mexico and Bahamas on board the brand new 4,140-passenger MSC Seaside .

Running a Midnight Race

Lace up your running shoes and get ready to take your first steps toward reaching your fitness goals in the new year with a midnight race, like the four-mile Midnight Run in Central Park that’s put on each year on New Year’s Eve by the New York Road Runners. Or, sign up for the Beat the New Year 5K in Salt Lake City, a race that starts at 11:30 p.m. and encourages runners to, yes, "beat the new year" and finish the race before the stroke of midnight.

On Top of One of the Tallest Mountains

Yes, you can start off the new year on top of the world thanks to women-focused WHOA Travel, which offers a seven-day adventure to Ring in 2019 on the Roof of Africa . Travelers trek 5,895 meters up Mount Kilimanjaro, across five climate zones, to reach Uhuru Peak for the first wondrous sunrise of 2019. Closer to home, usher in the new year with fireworks in Colorado Springs from the top of Pikes Peak , one of the tallest mountains in Colorado.

On a Ski Slope

There’s nothing like starting a day with fresh powder on a mountain that’s just begging to be conquered, especially when that day is the very first of the new year. All the better if you can be out on the slopes at the stroke of midnight. Whitetail Resort in Pennsylvania will have fireworks and a ball drop at midnight, as well as skiing and snowboarding until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. In Oregon, Mt. Hood Skibowl will be open until well after midnight for skiing, tubing and snowboarding.

At a Theme Park

Many theme parks, even those outside of warm climates, host magical New Year’s Eve celebrations. At Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando, pick up party hats at the park and enjoy the "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks spectacular starting at 11:50 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Or, head to any Six Flags theme park for thrill rides, twinkling holiday lights and fireworks displays (though many will start as early as 8:30 p.m.). For families of young children, try LEGOLAND California where the countdown to "midnight" starts just before 6 p.m. with party hats and special glasses.

Start the new year on the right foot (er, pedal) with a cycling vacation to explore a new city or country you’ve yet to visit. Bike Division Tour Operator is offering an eight-day New Year’s Eve Thailand Cycle Tour that takes guests 300 miles by bike across country roads, rolling hills and national parks. See where wild elephants freely roam and make time for coconut-lined tropical beaches. Or, head to southern Spain for a week of hiking and singletrack mountain biking , as well as a New Year’s Eve dinner to remember in the mountains.

In Front of a Massive Bonfire

Home to the world's largest bonfire on New Year's Eve (made official by Guinness World Records ), Scheveningen, Netherlands is the place to be to kick off 2019. Get there early since the locals begin gathering up and assembling wooden pallets a few days ahead of time to prepare for the massive conflagration. Enjoy musical performances and fireworks as you watch the fiery spectacle. Bonfires are also well-known in a Reykjavik. They’ve been a large part of Icelandic culture since the Middle Ages.

Hop aboard Alaska Railroad’s Aurora Winter Train for a New Year’s Eve celebration complete with champagne toasts and northern lights sightings. Board the train in Fairbanks for a 12-hour journey south before exiting at the Anchorage Historic Depot in time to ring in the new year in the heart of downtown. For those who want to spend only a few hours on a train, look to a New Year’s Eve Dinner Train like the three-hour railway adventure on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad in Canon City, Colorado.

On a Remote Island

Skip the Caribbean and ring in the new year on a new-to-you island. The more luxurious, the better. Treat yourself to a getaway to the Maldives or Cook Islands for white sandy beaches, delicious tropical dishes and relaxing vibes. Book a stay in a secluded overwater bungalow at Baros Maldives for turquoise water views as far as the eye can see. Or head off the coast of New Zealand to the Cook Islands , which boast bucket list-worthy white sand beaches ideal for snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

New Year's Eve in Charlotte: Where to Celebrate

I've visited all 50 states solo. These are the 8 places I'd pick for a relaxing, low-key vacation.

  • After traveling solo to all 50 US states, I've found some great places to relax and unwind.
  • I love visiting coastal towns in California, Oregon, and Maine.
  • I also enjoy disconnecting in Taos, New Mexico, and Homer, Alaska.

Insider Today

Over the past decade, I've traveled to all 50 US states and spent time in tons of major cities and small towns. I've also driven solo across the country several times, stopping in some of the most unique and beautiful places the United States has to offer.

Although I love finding a heart-pumping adventure or bustling city to explore, there's nothing quite like a getaway meant for relaxation. Turns out I'm not alone in this thought, as more and more travelers gravitate toward relaxing getaways .

Although relaxation can sometimes be more of a state of mind than a physical place, some destinations I've visited have made it easier to embrace a low-key and laid-back attitude than others.

Here are eight places I'd recommend for a relaxing getaway.

California's Sonoma Coast is more tranquil than the state's touristy areas.

fun states to visit for new years

California's Sonoma Coast is home to some of the state's most dramatic scenery. With towering cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, rolling hills covered in vineyards, and ancient redwood forests, this is where I love to visit to simply immerse myself in nature.

Unlike the more touristy areas in Southern California , the beaches here are generally less crowded and more peaceful. I love to drive the coast to lunch in Bodega Bay, relax on the sand at Goat Rock Beach while listening to the sound of the waves, and enjoy the fresh ocean air.

Taos, New Mexico, is the perfect spot to unwind.

fun states to visit for new years

Taos, a small historic town in northern New Mexico, is the spot I always return to for a relaxing and low-key getaway.

Nestled amid the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos has some of the most breathtaking landscapes I've ever encountered and is the perfect spot to watch a sunrise or sunset.

I love spending a few nights in a short-term rental or a vintage camper reading, relaxing, and visiting nearby hot springs and art galleries.

It's easy to disconnect in Homer, Alaska.

fun states to visit for new years

Nestled on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula , Homer, Alaska, feels very peaceful and low-key.

The majestic mountains, glaciers peeking out in the distance, and stunning coastline dotted with islands make Homer visually stunning, with a charming downtown and opportunities to explore.

There are many outdoor-adventure opportunities here, but visitors can just as easily have a slower-paced vacation and truly disconnect.

Spend time exploring the coastline, take a scenic boat tour, and savor the local seafood — all with a tranquil view.

Pacific City, Oregon, offers a laid-back vibe with local shops, art galleries, and cafés.

fun states to visit for new years

The Oregon Coast, as a whole, is the perfect destination for a relaxing, low-key getaway, but one of my favorite spots is Pacific City.

This quaint spot with a laid-back vibe has lots of local shops, art galleries, friendly cafés, and local restaurants to keep me busy between trips to the magnificent coastline.

Home to Haystack Rock and the stunning Cape Kiwanda scenic headland, you don't have to go far to find the natural beauty. Many hotels and rentals in the area even offer ocean views.

Lake Toxaway is North Carolina's private hidden gem.

fun states to visit for new years

Located in North Carolina, Lake Toxaway is one of the most beautiful places you likely haven't heard of.

The stunning lake, surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills, is a true respite. With access granted only to homeowners, short-term renters, and guests at The Greystone Inn, the lake offers exceptional opportunities for rest.

Although there are opportunities for hiking, biking, and water sports, the beauty of Lake Toxaway is that you can do as much or as little as you please.

Avila Beach, California, is the perfect escape from California's big cities.

fun states to visit for new years

Avila Beach is my favorite spot in Central California. Located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, this community is the picture of relaxation.

The quaint enclave is an escape from California's big cities and offers a relaxed vibe and friendly atmosphere. Explore local shops and galleries, grab a cup of coffee and a pastry at a waterfront café, or indulge in fresh seafood at a harborside restaurant — all at a leisurely pace.

Avila Beach also has hot springs and wineries nearby, which make the perfect additions to any low-key getaway.

Carefree, Arizona, offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

fun states to visit for new years

With a name like Carefree, it's no surprise you'll find low-key tranquility in this Arizona town. Offering a unique combination of desert beauty, wellness opportunities, and proximity to the Phoenix metro area, it is the perfect place to unwind.

Carefree sits at the edge of the Sonoran Desert, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, and has become a hub for wellness seekers.

Several well-known wellness resorts and spas are located either in town or nearby, offering amenities and opportunities for rest and relaxation.

Take a scenic hike through McDowell Sonoran Preserve, or simply relax by the pool at your resort, soaking up the Arizona sunshine.

Coastal Maine offers a breathtaking and relaxing escape.

fun states to visit for new years

No list of relaxing getaways would be complete without Coastal Maine. The rugged coastline of Maine, with its rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, and quaint harbor villages, offers a genuinely breathtaking and relaxing escape.

With many hidden coves and less-frequented stretches of sand, it's easy to find your own peaceful spot to soak up the sun, listen to the rhythm of the waves, and truly unwind.

Before a leisurely stroll along the coast, spend your days visiting the picturesque towns dotting the coastline and savoring fresh seafood and lobster rolls.

Grace Clarke in NYC

Kent State senior Grace Clarke, ’24 , has her dreams set on pursuing a career in New York City’s fashion media industry.

During her final semester, the journalism major interned at L’OFFICIEL USA, offering her a glimpse into the industry. As an editorial intern, Clarke produced well-researched stories on topics including fashion, culture and lifestyle. One of her favorite projects involved a story about the history of maternity wear in fashion.

“I really enjoy writing stories of this nature because it reminds me of why I love being a journalist,” Clarke said of the project. “You are able to dive deep into research about a specific topic, and by the end of the day you’re an expert on it. As a writer, you cultivate so much knowledge about an abundance of things. … You learn something new every day, and every day is different being a journalist.”

Most of Clarke’s internship with the publication has been remote; however, over spring break, she got the opportunity to visit the New York City headquarters and assist with an editorial photoshoot.

“I got to watch the creative styling process and photoshoot which was so much fun,” she said. “(New York City has) such a lively and busy atmosphere that really inspires me. Seeing all the locals and their hardworking mindset really makes me want to do the same after graduation!”

Clarke said she is grateful to Kent State and her professors in the School of Media and Journalism for preparing her for this experience.

“I was a very timid and shy girl in high school, and coming to Kent State in 2020, I finally felt like I found a place where I could figure out who I was and wanted,” she said. “The environment and atmosphere gave me room to flourish and thrive as a young woman and student. Academically, I’ve been very lucky and grateful for the education I’ve received these past four years.”

She names Professor Jacqueline Marino, Associate Professor Stephanie Danes Smith and former Professional-in-Residence Connie Schultz among the faculty who have influenced her path and passion for magazine journalism.

“My professor told me that every writer has a ‘voice’ in their work,” she said. “Kent State helped me find my voice: An opinionated, determined, witty young woman.”

It could be the final curtain call for the Wausau Community Theatre

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The curtains may be coming down for the Wausau Community Theatre. In a post on Facebook, they announced that the theatre is dealing with financial issues and is asking for your help so they can keep the space they have right now in Schofield and keep putting on productions.

If they don’t get enough donations, they will have to consider moving or decreasing the number of shows they put on or going on a hiatus.

Vice President and Treasurer of the Wausau Community Theatre KC Hofer doesn’t know how long that will be. The theatre is not struggling to get people involved in theatre — far from it. They have people who want to act, who want to create costumes, sets, and play music, but the budget is getting tighter, and putting on these productions is not getting any cheaper.

“Rights to rent a musical to perform it are very high,” Hofer said. “You combine that with the cost of the rent of venues to perform the musicals at as well as all the sets and costumes and everything that goes into doing a show.”

Hofer describes Wausau Community Theatre as an outlet for people who want to get away. Hofer says it’s a small production they are putting on, but these plays mean a lot to the cast and crew.

“They’re performing for their neighbors and they’re making their neighbors laugh and cry. You can help it just becomes a more Central Wisconsin story that you’re telling even though the play might be from somewhere else,” Hofer added

Wausau Community Theatre has been operating for almost a hundred years. They put on multiple productions each year. With costs increasing the board is not only thinking about adding more variety of what they present to the public, it’s also thinking about logistics.

“A lot of very fantastic people with a business sense who are coming in and advising the board and kind of helping them create a new plan going forward that way we can keep providing the services that we do for the community,” Hofer said.

They will know more about their financial state after they put on ‘Anything Goes,’ so they are asking people to buy tickets. Those ticket prices might be the make-it-or-break-it for the theatre.

“If this is the show that does not bring in a lot of people it could very well be the last show that Wausau Community Theatre does,” Hofer said bluntly.

They are also asking you for feedback. They want to know what kinds of productions you want to see. If the theatre does have to move buildings they do not have another one in mind at the moment.
