Defending champion Chris Froome (Team Sky) will start, along with Vincenzo Nibali (Astana), Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar). However there is no place for Team Sky's 2012 race winner Bradley Wiggins.

Nibali cierra el c�rculo que empez� con la Vuelta

El italiano Vincenzo Nibali, virtual vencedor del Tour 2014 y uno de los seis ciclistas que tendr�n en el palmar�s las tres grandes rondas, se�al� que su triunfo m�s importante ha sido la Vuelta a Espa�a porque le dio "la fuerza para afrontar el Giro y el Tour".

"La Vuelta ha sido mi triunfo m�s importante porque fue el primero en una prueba grande y me dio la fuerza para comprometerme en el Giro y Tour", dijo.

Nibali explic� que si bien "el Giro es muy importante" para �l y los italianos, "el Tour es m�s importante porque hay mucha atenci�n internacional sobre esta prueba".

" El Tour es algo diferente . Es m�s exigente, m�s bonito, y el nivel de los corredores es m�s importante que el de ninguna otra competici�n", se�al�.

Nibali es el s�ptimo italiano que gana el Tour y el sexto que vence en las tres grandes , junto a Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Felice Gimondi, Bernard Hinault y Alberto Contador.

" No pensaba en entrar en la historia, solo busco la victoria . Siempre ha sido as�. Aqu�, lo que me motivaba era llegar de amarillo a los Campos El�seos, ver al p�blico de Par�s, la torre Eiffel...", indic�.

Nibali dedic� el triunfo a su familia y a su equipo y lo consider� "una buena recompensa por todos los sacrificios concedidos". Record� que con 15 a�os abandon� el domicilio familiar para consagrarse a su carrera de ciclista y record� los muchos d�as que pasa lejos de los suyos.

Precisamente a principios de temporada naci� su hija y eso le hizo retrasar su preparaci�n. "Fue un inicio duro, pero ahora, visto con la distancia, creo que me ha permitido llegar en mejor forma al Tour", asegur�.

Nibali es el primer italiano que gana en el Tour desde que en 1998 lo hiciera Marco Pantani, pero el "Tibur�n" no quiso comparar su triunfo con el del " Pirata ".

El italiano reiter� que corre limpio, se�al� que no le importa que sus muestras de sangre y orina se conserven durante a�os para demostrarlo y afirm� que est� dispuesto a repetir a quien lo ponga en duda los sacrificios de su carrera.

Nibali afirm� que espera confirmar su triunfo en este Tour de Francia en el futuro, en una edici�n en la que est�n todos los grandes, Alberto Contador y Chris Froome, que se tuvieron que retirar este a�o por ca�das, adem�s del colombiano Nairo Quintana, que prefiri� no disputar el Tour para concentrarse en el Giro y la Vuelta.

Nibali es merecido ganador, pero no ha tenido competencia ninguna, ha corrido "tranquilo" dentro de lo que cabe en un esfuerzo como el ciclismo, ha sido, una vez mas, dentro de lo que cabe un tour "facil" para Nibali en cuanto a competencia. Tambien opino como muchos ha sido un tour bastante flojito, aun asi los he visto mucho peores eso tambien es verdad.

Nairo Quintana, el ciclista colombiano que no se rinde, fue el mejor latinoamericano el Tour de Francia 2022

(CNN Español) -- Nairo Quintana ocupó el sexto lugar en el Tour de Francia de 2022. Se dice fácil, pero el ciclista colombiano, el mejor de la historia de su país y de Latinoamérica, compitió contra más jóvenes y lo hizo tras unas temporadas difíciles. Tiene 32 años y parece decidido a dejar su nombre marcado en la historia del ciclismo mundial, con la conciencia de que en Colombia es un héroe absoluto que puede seguir demostrando mucho con sus piernas.

El 20 de julio no fue una fecha cualquiera para Nairo: más allá del Día de Independencia de Colombia, se cumplieron 9 años exactos del día en que ganó etapa y se coronó campeón de montaña, mejor joven y subcampeón del Tour de Francia en 2013.

Ese día defendió el cuarto lugar después de que el martes subió dos puestos en la clasificación general. Su experiencia en altitud fue clave.

El vencedor del Tour de Francia , Jonas Vingegaard, tiene 25 años. El esloveno Tadej Pogačar, segundo, tiene 23 años. Un ejemplo de la tenacidad y la experiencia es la de Geraint Thomas, de 36 años y quien completó el podio en la gran carrera de este deporte.

Nairo, campeón del Giro de Italia (2014) y de la Vuelta a España (2016), dos veces segundo en el Tour de Francia (2013 y 2015) y una vez segundo del Giro (2017) lleva 5 años sin conseguir podio en una de las tres grandes vueltas del ciclismo del mundo.

Pero este año, ya como un veterano en un deporte muy fiscalizado y exigente, se ha destacado por sus victorias en el Tour La Provence y en el Tour de los Alpes Marítimos y de Var, además de quedar de quinto en las carreras París-Niza y cuarto en la Volta a Cataluña, y ahora por aguantar en el top 10 en medio del calor en la prueba reina del ciclismo mundial.

El colombiano, otrora gran rival de Chris Froome en el Tour de Francia, es uno de los ciclistas más seguidos por el público en la vuelta gala. Tras su paso extenso y exitoso por el Movistar Team, ahora es líder en el equipo francés Arkéa Samsic el deportista de Tunja, Boyacá, quiere volver a la gloria. El esquivo Tour es la carrera que siempre ha querido ganar y ha estado cerca. Quizá sin su impulso en esos subcampeonatos, su compatriota Egan Bernal no habría llegado al título en 2019. Este año Nairo descartó el Giro justamente para apostarle al Tour, como lo confirmó a principios de año Emmanuel Hubert, director del Arkéa.

Nairo fue el segundo ciclista latinoamericano en ganar una gran vuelta, después de su compatriota Lucho Herrera. Ahora lo acompañan el ecuatoriano Richard Carapaz (Giro 2019) y Egan Bernal (Tour 2019 y Giro 2021).

Quintana está en el puesto 62 del Salón de la Fama del Ciclismo de la UCI (el mejor latinoamericano), solo dos puestos detrás del esloveno Primož Roglič, triple ganador de la Vuelta España entre 2019 y 2021, quien en esta edición del Tour de Francia se retiró en la etapa 15.

El Lidl Trek celebró en el Tour de Hungría 2024 con Thibau Nys , quien se aseguró la victoria general tras defender el liderato en la última etapa, transcurrida entre las localidades húngaras de Siófok y Pécs con un recorrido 173,2 kilómetros .

El joven corredor belga se subió a su primer podio en una carrera por etapas, acompañado del alemán Emanuel Buchmann (BORA – hansgrohe) y del neerlandés Wout Poels (Bahrain – Victorious) , quienes terminaron 2° y 3°, respectivamente.

La última etapa de la carrera europea del calendario UCI terminó en manos del neerlandés Wout Poels (Bahrain – Victorious) , una revancha deportiva, para el experimentado corredor tras su no selección para el Giro de Italia .

El Tour de Hungría de este año se decidió en las montañas de Mecsek . Los ciclistas tuvieron que subir más de 2.300 metros de desnivel en el camino. La llegada fue en el Zoo Pécs , donde el pelotón tuvo que coronar tres veces el famoso repecho Bárány (1,9 kilómetros al 11%) .

En un final de película, Olav Kooij (Visma | Lease a Bike) salió victorioso en la novena etapa del Giro de Italia 2024, una fracción de 241 kilómetros entre Avezzano y Nápoles . Los últimos kilómetros estuvieron animados por el ecuatoriano Jhonathan Narváez (Ineos Grenadiers) , quien parecía encaminarse a otra victoria tras un ataque en un pequeño repecho, pero fue superado por los velocistas en los últimos cien metros.

El sprinter neerlandés, quien se ratificó como uno de los mejores velocistas de la edición 107 de la Corsa Rosa , ganando con lo justo por delante del italiano Jonathan Milan (Lidl – Trek) y del colombiano Juan Sebastián Molano (UAE Team Emirates) . Mientras que Jhonathan Narváez (Ineos Grenadiers) debió conformarse con el puesto 11°.

La última etapa antes del primer día de descanso del Giro de Italia 2024 fue súper larga con solo una subida categorizada en el menú del día, pero la etapa no era en absoluto plana. Los corredores se enfrentaron a cuatro subidas cortas en los últimos cuarenta kilómetros, con el Monte di Procida (4,1 km al 3,1%) , Lucrino (1,1 km al 6,7%) , Solfatara di Pozzuoli (2 km al 4,9%) y el Posillipo (3,2 km al 4,4%) . La cima de este último ascenso se presentó a siete kilómetros antes de la línea de meta.

La fuga del día la protagonizaron dos corredores del Team Polti Kometa . Los italianos Mirco Maestri y Andrea Pietrobon , quienes animaron la larga jornada. Los dos aventureros fueron neutralizados en la fase final.

Si bien no pasó mucho en el primer ascenso, la carrera cobró vida en la subida posterior a Lucrino (1,1 km al 6,7%) . Fue nada menos que Julian Alaphilippe quien se aventuró y logró anular a los primeros atacantes Pietrobon y Maestrí. Al francés, se le sumaron Nicola Conci (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Lewis Askey (Groupama-FDJ), Kevin Vermaerke (DSM-Firmenich) y Ewen Costiou (Arkéa-B&B Hotels).

El dos veces campeón del mundo dio una nueva aceleración y dejó a todos sus rivales justo antes de la cumbre, pero Jhonathan Narváez , el ganador de la primera etapa a Turín atacó y pasó a Alaphilippe con una poderosa aceleración.

Mientras que el valiente Alaphilippe fue atrapado y dejado atrás por el pelotón , Narváez comenzó los últimos siete kilómetros llanos con una ventaja. A dos kilómetros del final, su diferencia era de diez segundos, pero esto no suficiente para sorprender a los hombres rápidos.

Sorprendentemente Tadej Pogacar , al servicio de su compañero de equipo el colombiano Juan Sebastián Molano , se puso al frente del pelotón para lanzarle el embalaje al sprinter boyacense y se le abalanzaron al ecuatoriano.

El pobre Narváez fue atrapado por Milan y Kooij a solo 50 metros de la línea. El italiano fue el primero en lanzar en el sprint, pero esta vez fue claramente remontado por el neerlandés de 22 años.

Este lunes llega el primer descanso en la ‘Corsa Rosa’ , que reanuda acciones el martes con una fracción montañosa de 141 kilómetros entre Pompei y Cusano Mutri (Bocca della Selva) .

En 1933 surgió la idea de desarrollar una clasificación en la que, luego de tres semanas de carrera, se premiara al mejor escalador del Giro de Italia. Eso fue más de veinte años después de la primera edición de la ‘ Corsa Rosa ‘ en 1909. Desde entonces solo seis colombianos han conseguido la tan preciada camiseta azul (antes verde).

El primer escarabajo en ganarla fue Luis Alberto Herrera en 1989 y el último fue Julián Arredondo en 2014. A continuación, la Revista Mundo Ciclístico hace un recuento con todos los colombianos que se llevaron la ‘ camiseta de la montaña ‘ para su casa.

Tras ganar la Vuelta a España , Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) se consagró campeona en la Vuelta al País Vasco Femenina . La neerlandesa logró llevarse la etapa final en los alrededores de San Sebastián al escaparse en la difícil subida al Mendizorrotz .

La corredora de Países Bajos cruzó la línea de meta en solitario y le arrebató el maillot de líder a su compatriota y compañera de equipo Mischa Bredewold , que ganó las dos primeras fracciones.

En cuanto a las colombianas, la mejor de la jornada final fue Jessenia Meneses (Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi) en la casilla 62° a más de 7 minutos de la ganadora. Mientras que Carolina Vargas (Eneicat – CMTeam) y Andrea Alzate (Eneicat – CMTeam) llegaron fuera de tiempo.

Después de dos etapas onduladas la etapa final fue un difícil parcial de 115 kilómetros con salida y llegada en San Sebastián con dos duras subidas en el camino, con el Jaizkibel (6,8 km al 6,2%) y el Mendizorrotz (3,4 km al 8,4%) a 30 kilómetros de la llegada.

Los puestos de honor de la carrera vasca los adornaron las neerlandesas Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) , quien estuvo acompañada de su compatriota Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) y de la francesa Juliette Labous (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) . La mejor colombiana fue Jessenia Meneses (Laboral Kutxa – Fundación Euskadi) en la casilla 55° a 13:55.

La racha ganadora del equipo SD Worx-Protime continuó su extraña racha de victorias en la Vuelta al País Vasco femenina . De hecho, el equipo neerlandés ha ganado todas las etapas de la Itzulia Women desde la creación de la carrera, un gran récord sin duda.

Live from Paris: Taylor Swift adds 'Tortured Poets' songs to Eras Tour in France

P ARIS, France — The Chairman jump-started her tour after a two-month hiatus, and anticipation was high over whether Taylor Swift would incorporate her 11th era album into the Eras Tour set at La Défense Arena on Thursday.

She did and then some.

Swift extended the set list by one track to land at 46 songs. But many changes were made along the way. She added a new era for "The Tortured Poets Department," cut a handful of songs and rearranged most of the eras including combining the sets for "Folklore" and "Evermore."

Delivering all the updates were Bryan West, the USA TODAY Network's full-time Taylor Swift reporter, from inside La Défense Arena in Paris, with Swiftie and trending reporter Anthony Robledo assisting from his desk.

'Midnights' set follows secret songs

Swift stuck to her original set list for the "Midnights" era by singing "Lavender Haze," "Anti-Hero" and "Midnight Rain." She ended the night with a triumphant rendition of "Karma" as usual.

'loml' is second secret song

Fans got one more taste of "The Tortured Poets Department" when Swift played the heartbreaking song "loml" on the piano during her secret set.

'Paris' is a secret song, of course

Swift started her secret set with "Paris," a bonus song from her "Midnights" album.

New 'Tortured Poets' set is here

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.  

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segued into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She quickly performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, recorded harmony played concluding the song. 

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit. 

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

New '1989' outfit

Swift never goes out of Style. During her “1989” set, she debuted a new, sequined outfit of blue and pink. Her sparkly shoes matched with a different colored heel on each. For the bridge of “Blank Space,” the crowd started chanting in Sydney, Australia, “Syd-ney” as a nod to the 1989 World Tour concert movie where Swift would chant the name of the city she was in after hitting a pole with a club two times. Singapore followed the chant and Taylor Nation tweeted they want every city to incorporate the fan-fueled chant.In Paris, thousands chanted “Par-ee,” the French way to say the capital city.

Four songs cut from 'Folklore' and 'Evermore'

The new set list cut four tracks from the "Folklore" and "Evermore" eras:

• "'Tis the Damn Season"
• "Tolerate It"
• "The Last Great American Dynasty"

The combined set included eight songs altogether and wrapped up with "Willow."

'Folkmore' set debuts

Swift revealed she merged the 2020 pandemic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” into one section. She told fans she wrote “Folklore” to represent spring and summer with “Evermore” representing fall and winter in what she always considered sister albums.

“On the Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter,” she said. “You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing ‘Champagne Problems’ with me.”

'Folklore' set: 'Cardigan' makes the cut

Many fans had speculated "Cardigan" would be cut from the set list. But Swift actually moved it to the top of the "Folklore" set.

Another surprise: 'Speak Now' era comes fourth

Swift updated her "Speak Now" set with an intro dance featuring Raphael Thomas and eight other dancers wearing flowy purple dresses. She then sang "Enchanted."

Fan favorite track "Long Live" was cut from the set list.

Order of eras changed

After a fairly routine "Fearless" set, Swift altered her concert by including the “Red” era third instead of the expected “Evermore” set. Previously, "Red" came fifth.

With a new shirt that read “This Is Not Taylor’s Version,” the singer performed "22" and showed her audience that they needed to leave any expectations at home. 

The relocated "Red" set included the same four songs: "22," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Beflore playing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” Swift talked about bringing all of her favorite memories to France.She did her 2019 “Lover” live show here but hadn’t brought a tour to the country since the Speak Now World Tour 13 years ago.“I cannot thank you enough. I’m so moved," she said.

First set list change

Swift cut "The Archer" from her "Lover" set before beginning her "Fearless" set in a silver and black minidress as opposed to her classic gold one. A graphic showed her "Lover" house with a new addition in the attic for "The Tortured Poets Department." Her "Fearless" set remained the same with "Fearless," "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story."

'Je m'appelle Taylor'

In her monologue before playing the song "Lover," Swift said the night would span 18 years of music. Previously, the concert covered 16 years. Get ready for a "The Tortured Poets Department" addition some time tonight.

She confirmed the tour would still go era by era, and also spoke about how Paramore is a band she idolized since she was a teenager. She ended with some French: "Je m'appelle Taylor."

Swift debuted a new, orange bodysuit and jacket for the "Lover" set.

Taylor Swift takes the stage

Swift took the stage about 8 p.m. in Paris (2 p.m. ET) to relaunch her Eras Tour in Europe. She kicked it off with a countdown clock and the Lesley Gore song "You Don't Own Me" as usual. Then she began her "Lover" set with "Miss Americana."

Paramore covers Blondie, Talking Heads in Paris set list

At the Paris show Thursday, Paramore energized fans with eight tracks including their cover off the upcoming “Stop Making Sense” tribute album out May 17 featuring artists like Miley Cyrus and Lorde.

Debuting a blond mullet, lead singer Hayley Williams encouraged fans to dance without fear of judgment ahead of Swift’s performance.

“Enjoy your time with Miss Taylor, we will see you next time,” Williams said.

• "Burning Down the House" (Talking Heads cover)

At about 6:45 p.m. in Paris (12:45 p.m. ET), Paramore began their set, officially restarting the second year of the historic Eras Tour. Lead singer Hayley Williams sported a new, blond mullet hairdo.

The American rock band is joining Swift on her European leg of 51 shows. Paramore also opened the show for two nights in Glendale, Arizona, in 2023. Their setlist then included nine songs:

Where to watch the Eras Tour livestreams

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. Livestream Queen Tess Bohne has spearheaded the "Great War" to find fans going live on social media and broadcasting a custom show to tens of thousands of fans almost every night on her account @tessdear .

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the 3-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app also sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has had an acoustic set she customizes every stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mash-ups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

Welcome to the Eras Tour (France's Version). Swift is kicking off her 3-plus-hour concert from La Défense Arena in the Jardins de l’Arche district. La iniciativa 'Birdies for Meals' recaudó USD $7.470 en el quinto evento del Swing Latino

QUITO, Ecuador – La semana pasada el KIA Open y ProGolf by ProSports Latam se comprometieron a donar $5 por cada birdie y $10 por cada águila anotada en su evento. El recuento oficial fue de 1.402 birdies y 46 águilas en los 54 hoyos que se alcanzaron a jugar en vista de que la ronda final del quinto evento de la temporada del PGA TOUR Americas se canceló por mal clima.

Los USD $7,470 recaudados a través de esta iniciativa benéfica denominada “Birdies for Meals” – birdies por comidas – apoyarán una causa promovida por la Fundación Reina de Quito, la cual procura fondos para alimentar a niños afectados por desnutrición crónica en diferentes puntos de la ciudad de Quito.

“Nuestro objetivo es convertirnos en el mejor torneo del PGA TOUR Americas, así que a medida que nuestro evento crece, sentimos la necesidad de retribuir a la comunidad y eso fue lo que hicimos a través del programa 'Birdies for Meals'”, dijo el promotor del torneo, Nicolás Gross. “Agradecemos a la Fundación Reina de Quito por permitirnos unirnos a sus esfuerzos a través de su causa benéfica ‘Primeras Sonrisas’ que alimenta a niños necesitados aquí en Quito”.

Los jugadores del PGA TOUR Americas pusieron de su parte registrando un gran número de birdies y águilas durante toda la semana en el Quito Tenis y Golf Club. El ganador del torneo, Thomas Longbella, y el subcampeón, Gunn Yang, anotaron 16 birdies y un águila cada uno. En un empate por el tercer lugar, el mejor latino Ricardo Celia de Colombia consiguió 11 birdies y el mayor total de águilas de la semana con tres. El líder en total birdies para el torneo fue Evan Brown, quien logró 20.

“Significa muchísimo ser el líder en birdies anotados de la semana”, dijo Brown, un competidor de 24 años originario de Kennett Square, Pensilvania. “Me hace sentir muy bien poder contribuir a través de mi juego. Cada vez que nosotros, como jugadores, podemos retribuir a la comunidad jugando buen golf y haciendo birdies por medio de un esfuerzo benéfico como ese, es enorme... Queremos jugar bien, sumar muchos puntos y ascender en la clasificación, pero tener algo más por lo cual jugar (como una causa benéfica como esta) es también importante para nosotros".
