Glasgow City Day Tour from Edinburgh

glasgow tour from edinburgh

Tour Details

On this tour prepare to be mesmerised by Glasgow’s rich tapestry of history and awe-inspiring architecture throughout the city. From the iconic Glasgow Cathedral to captivating medieval sites and thriving modern industry, each stop reveals a new facet of this vibrant city. Glasgow is brimming with surprises waiting to be discovered, and we can’t wait to share them with you on this unforgettable journey.

Starting from your preferred location, your very own personal driver will pick you up to start your adventure for the day!

One of the most impressive sights in Glasgow, the Cathedral is simply awe-inspiring. Sitting on the original site where St. Mungo built his first church in 614 A.D., it’s safe to say there’s an extremely ancient history in this city. In fact, many people believe Edinburgh is an older city, but St. Margaret’s Cathedral in Edinburgh is actually younger than the Glasgow Cathedral you see today, which was built in the 12th Century.

On your tour, you’ll also get to experience what’s left of Medieval Glasgow. As you head along High Street, one of Glasgow’s oldest streets, you can marvel at the ancient buildings – and perhaps catch sight of the famous Tollbooth Steeple where the city’s witches, thieves and murders were hanged.

Right at the heart of Glasgow, George Square is somewhere you absolutely have to see. Throughout the square, you’ll find many statues of famous Scottish politicians, literalists, military personnel and royalty. Perhaps the most notable part of George Square is the Glasgow City Chambers. On a weekday, you are allowed to go inside and marvel at the 3-storey marble staircase – which we believe rivals The Vatican’s two-storey staircase. The architecture around the square is actually very similar to America, and that’s why it’s been used by major Hollywood films such as Fast & Furious and World War Z.

As you travel out of the city centre, you’ll spot the Finnieston Crane dramatically silhouetted against the River Clyde. It’s an icon for the Scottish shipbuilding industry – although it was never used to build ships. It was actually used for lifting extremely large items onto ships – like locomotives and steam trains. Around the Finnieston area, you’ll get to witness ‘Modern Glasgow’ with the SECC and The Hydro, a central place for music and arts.

Built in 1901, Kelvingrove Art Gallery is not only a sensational building architecturally, but also with its wealth of information and history. Here you can learn all about the fascinating history of Glasgow, from its creation, to its Merchant history, the Industrial Revolution and the rise of communism known as ‘Red Clyde’. There’s also the famous ‘floating heads’, a real-live spitfire, an Egyptian exhibit, and an extensive art gallery – and even a live organ recital if you catch it at the right time.

Being driven through the West End is a great way to see all the sights. It’s an affluent area with many stunning buildings and plenty of stories to tell. Your guide will point them out as you go, such as the ancient, gothic-style University of Glasgow which was founded in 1451. The University is actually the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world!

Get your picture taken by the Doulton Fountain with the beautiful backdrop of the People’s Palace or Glasgow Green Park. This Victorian structure was the largest Terracotta fountain ever constructed in the world at the time, and on top, you’ll see a statue of Queen Victoria proudly looking over Glasgow Green.

Please note: The People’s Palace is currently closed for an exciting refurbishment project. It is due to reopen in 2027. Therefore it will not be possible to visit the inside of the venue.

The Merchant City is one of Glasgow’s oldest quarters and is filled with stunning architecture. Every street is named after a famous merchant who built their wealth trading in the Indies in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Today, it’s an area bursting with eateries and shops, so it’s an excellent place to walk around and explore.

Sit back and relax as we return to your drop off location.

1 DAY TOUR FROM EDINBURGH - GLASGOW, LOCH LOMOND AND THE TROSSACHS

Enjoy a full day tour and experience Glasgow, the largest city of Scotland, as well as the luxurious nature of Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, and the magnificent Kelpies at the Helix Park in Falkirk.

Enjoy a full day tour and experience Glasgow, the largest city of Scotland, as well as the luxurious nature of Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, and the magnificent Kelpies at the Helix Park in Falkirk.

These are some of the highlights you will see:

Departing Edinburgh, we travel west to the city of Glasgow. The journey starts with the visit of the Cathedral and then we kick off with a lovely and relaxing panoramic tour of the main landmarks: the High Street, Tolbooth, the Market Cross, Glasgow Green with its beautiful Templeton, People's Palace and Doulton Fountain; from there we drive along the banks of the River Clyde where you will learn all about the industrial past of the city with sights of the Finnieston Crane and the bridges. We'll stop at the Armadillo and Scottish Hydro, two marvellous works of art made by the architect Norman Foster.

The tour will then take you to the monument of the Duke of Wellington where you'll understand why the Glaswegians are most certainly among the quirkiest people in this world. The panoramic tour takes a break in George Square, right in the beating heart of Scotland’s largest city, where you will have the opportunity to do some shopping and grab some lunch. The panoramic tour retakes from here and will drive you to the Kelvingrove Museum and Glasgow University, one of the oldest universities of Scotland.

Balloch on Loch Lomond

We continue to the stunning Trossachs National Park and we stop on the banks of Loch Lomond, in a quaint town named Balloch. Here we can enjoy a walk along the banks of the loch or a cruise on its pristine waters.

The Kelpies

We travel eastwards and before we return to Edinburgh, we make one last stop at the Kelpies, the 30 metre high horsehead sculptures designed by sculptor Andy Scott completed in October 2013.

Spirit of Outlander - 16 Day Tour

The Spirit of Outlander tour was great! This tour is geared for Outlander fans but you don't have to be a fan to enjoy all the locations visited. Our tour guide, Paul, was fantastic! His knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism was 5-star! It was very exciting to visit the filming sites of Outlander and to be walking in the footsteps of the actors! There were a variety of locations to visit daily from castles to churches and gardens. There were also unscheduled photo stops to capture the scenic beauty on the way to visiting various locations. My husband and I waited over 2 years to take this trip (due to Covid) and it was worth the wait! The hotels were top notch and the meals provided were good! A thoroughly exciting trip!

What people love about Glasgow to Edinburgh Tours

We thoroughly enjoyed our Bonnie Scotland tour. The location was beautiful and the trip well organized. Our tour guide, Gavin, was simply the best. Loved the experience!!
The tour guide, Linda, was great as was the coach driver, Mike. The coach was very comfortable and the sites we visited were great. The tour was well organized and well executed. The meals were very good as well. The only thing making this “good” and not “excellent” is that I had to sleep on a pullout couch for three nights of the tour which much surprised me for something billed as a first class tour. So if you plan to go three to a room, be prepared for someone to be on a couch.

City Of Glasgow Tour

Sightseeing Trip From Edinburgh To Glasgow

City of Glasgow Tour From Edinburgh

Take in the sights on a City of Glasgow Tour & learn about the rich & varied history of Scotland's biggest city. With a population of 600,000 (metropolitan population 1.9 million) and once the fourth biggest city in Europe, Glasgow built its fortune down the centuries on fishing during the medieval period, trade with North America & Asia from the 17th century, shipbuilding, steel fabrication & steam locomotive manufacturing which peaked at the end of the 19th century. The legacy of the incredible wealth generated during these periods is some fantastic gothic, Georgian, Victorian & art deco architecture, some world class museums and art galleries (most offering free entry) & over 90 parks. In fact Glasgow has more green space per capita than any city in Europe.

glasgow tour from edinburgh

City of Glasgow Tour, is a half-day or full day trip from Edinburgh taking in the rich history of the city centre and elegant West End, sights include Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, City Chambers, the 'Armadillo', the cathedral and Glasgow University.

A half city tour of Glasgow includes all of the major sights in the city centre, west end and Clydeside. The full day tour, as well as the above includes Pollok Country Park, including Pollok House, the Burrell Collection and could include a visit to Auchentoshan or Clydeside Distillery and I can make a recommendation on where to eat, anything from great takeaways to atmospheric pubs and fine dining restaurants.

I am completely flexible when it comes to itineraries so if you would like a longer tour to spend more time at some of the city's visitor attractions extra hours can be added on. Similarly, if you would like to visit any of the many out of town attractions such as Loch Lomond National Park or a whisky distillery then these can be tagged on to a City Tour of Glasgow.

For more information on Glasgow city tours please email me at   [email protected]   or through the  enquiry form   for a no-obligation quote.

It’s August 2019 and in less than a month I will be saying goodbye to Edinburgh. Although I managed to visit many great places in Scotland , I still have many more in my list, including Glasgow. So it is about time to get on a train and explore the big city of Scotland. My original scheduled allowed me to spend two days in the city, but some last-minute issues with my dissertation only permitted me to spent only one day there. So, below I am presenting you with the itinerary I followed on my day trip to Glasgow that covers the most important places of interest. In the end, you can find some suggestions for things to do if you have one more day to spare in Glasgow.

Day trip to Glasgow highlights: Gallery of Modern Art , The Lighthouse , Prince’s Square , Glasgow Murals , Glasgow Cathedral , Glasgow Necropolis , People’s Palace

Day Trip to Glasgow City

Tips for planning a day trip to Glasgow

It is very easy to plan a day trip to Glasgow, simply because not much planning is needed. Getting there from Edinburgh (and it rest of the UK) is very easy. Once in Glasgow, it is easy to move around as there is a very good public transport network of trains, subway and buses to take you around the city. Regarding the things to do, there is a huge variety, from history to architecture to food. As Glasgow is a student-friendly city, there are many student-(and budget)-friendly places.

Getting there from Edinburgh

There are very frequent trains to Glasgow from Edinburgh (every 5-10 minutes), and this means that you can simply turn up at the train station and take the next train. Don’t forget to buy a ticket first! Trains depart from Edinburgh Waverly and stop at Haymarket and Edinburgh Gateway stations (which means you can take a train to Glasgow right from the airport) before heading out of the city. If you see the map Glasgow has many train stations. The one servicing Edinburgh is Glasgow Queen Street . The quickest trains can arrive in Glasgow in about 45 minutes, but there are some services which require 1h30mins, so you may want to check that before boarding a train.

Buy your train tickets easily and quickly using  Trainline .  [AD]

Moving around in Glasgow

Although Glasgow is a big city, the itinerary below can be easily followed without using public transport. All the places included are within a short walk from the train station and form a great walking route.

Useful websites:

  • Glasgow Tourism Board
  • Public Transport in Glasgow (SPT)

An itinerary for a classic day trip to Glasgow

Important: The timings below should be ok to follow on weekdays and Saturdays. If you visit on a Sunday, you want to move the times one hour forward and reduce the lunch break (so that you still manage to finish everything by 5 pm). This is because of the Sunday opening hours of the places included in the itinerary. To be more specific, on Sunday’s GoMA opens at 11 am, the Lighthouse at 12 pm and the Cathedral at 1 pm, while the People’s Palace closes at 5 pm.

10:00 Gallery of Modern Art

Exterior of GoMA and the Duke of Wellington statue

The first stop of the day is the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA). It is located at the Royal Exchange Square in a neoclassical building that gives Greek and Roman vibes. Inside the gallery, you can find exhibits from many contemporary artists from around the world such as Andy Warhol.

BONUS: At the entrance to the museum by Queen Street, you can find the statue of Duke of Wellington. This equestrian figure is one of the symbols of Glasgow (at least in tourist merchandise) and it is often decorated with an orange traffic cone.

Find out more about GoMA here .

11:15 The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse staircase

When looking for the Lighthouse, don’t expect to find a traditional lighthouse in the middle of the city. Instead, look for a neon lights sign with the word “Lighthouse” placed vertically on the side of a building on Michel Ln. Michel Ln itself is a small side street off Buchanan Street, one of the main shopping streets in Glasgow.

The Lighthouse houses Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture and it is famous for its spiral staircase that leads to great views of Glasgow. Most people came here for the views and ignore the Design and Architecture museum on the lower levels of the building, which is very interesting and it worth having a look around.

Tip: To find the spiral staircase you need to enter the building and get up to the third floor. Then, you need to find a separate entrance to the Mackintosh Tower, which is where you can find the staircase.

Find out more about the Lighthouse here .

12:30 City Centre

Interior of Prince's Square

After getting all the culture, it’s time to explore Glasgow’s city centre. Pedestrianised Sauchiehall St, Buchanan Street and Argyle Street bustle with shops and restaurants. Find a place to have lunch, before heading to another part of the city. A very popular place to have a break is the Willow Tea Rooms with their characteristic long chairs. Note that unless you have a reservation, you may have to wait to get a table (especially on the weekends).

Alternative options include the restaurants inside the elegant Prince’s Square shopping centre (we had lunch at Darcy’s ) and along Buchanan Street such as Hard Rock Cafe or Stack and Still for some pancakes. Even if you have lunch somewhere else, I recommend visiting Prince’s Square to check out its unique (at least for a shopping centre) interiors. Other places worth having a look are the Argyll Arcade full of jewellery shops and the City Chambers .

Glasgow’s Murals

Did you know that Glasgow is full of murals? Street arts is on its full swing in Glasgow with huge murals all over the city. There is even a mural trail to follow that covers all the artwork. You can find it here on the website of the project, along with some information on what each mural represents.

If you follow this itinerary, you will be able to come along a few of those. Just remember to look around and at the side of the buildings. We encountered the most murals on our way to/from the Glasgow Cathedral and behind the Lighthouse. Some popular ones to look for are the Wind Power, St Enoch and Child and Honey…I Shrunk the Kids.

Honey…I Shrunk the Kids Mural in Glasgow

14:00 Glasgow Cathedral

Interior of Glasgow Cathedral

Glasgow Cathedral is said to be located at the birthplace of the city of Glasgow. The cathedral is dedicated to St Kentigern (also known as St Mungo) and dates to the 13 th century. Unlike other medieval cathedrals in Scotland, this one managed to escape the destructions that other churches faced during the Protestant Reformation of 1560. Once inside the cathedral, you should have a look at the architecture of the place and visit the crypt. The crypt is one of the oldest parts of the cathedral, and there you can find the tomb of St Kentigern / St Mungo.

Find out more about Glasgow Cathedral here .

15:00 Glasgow Necropolis

Glasgow Necropolis

Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery behind Glasgow Cathedral. It is built on a hill and from the top of the hill, you can enjoy the views of the city. There you can find many statues and monuments of great people of the past.

Find out more about Glasgow Necropolis here .

16:00 People’s Palace and Glasgow Green

People's Palace in Glasgow

People’s Palace is a museum about the history of the people of Glasgow, known as Glaswegians. It is a social history museum regarding the lives and struggles of Glaswegians over the years. The Palace used to house the Winter Garden, a glasshouse conservatory but when I visited it was permanently closed. In front of the People’s Palace, you can find the Doulton Fountain, while around the building is a large green area named Glasgow Green. Glasgow Green is the oldest parks in the city and has a Green Flag award. There, you can find scattered around different statues and monuments.

Note that the People’s Palace closes at 5 pm.

Find out more about People’s Palace here .

17:30 City Centre

Return to the city centre for the last walk before going to the train station to return to Edinburgh. If you want, before leaving you can visit one of the many cafes and restaurants for a dessert/early dinner.

Pancakes at Stack & Still

Directions:

This walking route is to be used when following the itinerary above. When you click on the map, it opens on Google Maps and you can follow it while walking in Glasgow. The map should work offline if you load the directions beforehand and leave the app open on the background. Google also allows you to download the map if you prefer to have it printed.

Things to do on another day trip to Glasgow

As I said at the beginning, I initially planned to spend two days in Glasgow (in two consecutive day trips from Edinburgh, as it was cheaper this way than spending the night at a hotel), but things didn’t work out in the end. Nevertheless, I had already prepared a rough plan for what we would do on that second day that covers West End. Below you can find the list of places I wanted to visit along with the walking route that we would follow. Note, that as this route is not tested, I am not sure if it is manageable in a day.

  • University of Glasgow : One of the oldest universities in the country, the University of Glasgow features impressive buildings and grounds.
  • Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum : The 8000 objects housed in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, make it one of the most important museums in Scotland with a range of exhibitions.
  • Riverside Museum : A transport museum about the history of public transport, ships and other vehicles of the area.
  • Glasgow Science Centre : A great place for the whole family with many hands-on activities, a planetarium and an IMAX theatre. Glasgow Tower (additional payment; seasonal and weather permitting) offers 360 o views of the city and the River Clyde from its 127 m observation platform.

All photos were taken using the camera  Sony ILCE-5100   [AD] and the  16-50mm [AD]  or  55-210mm   [AD] lense unless otherwise specified.

Enjoy your day!

P.S. All the places included in the classic itinerary have free entry (but accept donations). So, this is a very budget-friendly way to spend a day in Glasgow.

Glasgow sounds like an amazing day trip! I only visited Edinburgh with my school years ago, I need to come back to Scotland and visit Glasgow!

Glasgow is a great city! I really recommend it!

glasgow tour from edinburgh

Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s vital to follow the authorities’ guidance but at the same time, we can enjoy our life a bit after all this hassle!

Yes of course, although this post is based on a trip last year.

I’ve actually never been to Glasgow but always heard it isn’t worth it. I totally changed my mind after reading about all those interesting sites! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, usually Edinburgh has the most tourists, but Glasgow is totally worth a visit too!

glasgow tour from edinburgh

Great post! There’s still a few things I haven’t done in Glasgow, like I haven’t even been to Kelvingrove! I think you might be right that that would need to be done on a separate trip. I also really want to go inside the City Chambers, apparently there’s more marble than in the Vatican!

I didn’t know that about the City Chambers and it sounds very interesting!

glasgow tour from edinburgh

I’ve been to Glasgow loads of times but you mentioned a few spots I hadn’t visited before – adding to my list for the next time I visit!

I’m glad that you find something interesting!

glasgow tour from edinburgh

This was an awesome itinerary! You got all the highlights, plus some cool extras! That lighthouse picture was awesome, I don’t think I visited there, so I’ll have to add it to my “when I return!” Also, what did you think about the necropolis? I had to skip that too because the tour didn’t fit with my schedule.

Yeah, apparently the Lighthouse is not so well known. The Necropolis was fine, I didn’t wander much around because the weather was not great. I would say I was expecting better views of the city, but at least the view of the Cathedral (which is on the cover photo) was good.

Glasgow looks like a cool pretty to visit! Especially the spiral staircase looks awesome!

Day 2 - Loch Ness and the Highlands Excursion

There’s a delightful journey into the Highlands of Scotland today.

From Edinburgh, we cross the Firth of Forth and tour through the ancient Kingdom of Fife.

On reaching Highland Perthshire, our first stop will be in the pleasant town of Pitlochry , which boasts a wide range of shops and eateries.

Next, we make our way through the Pass of Drumochter and enter the beautiful Cairngorms National Park , where the mountains soar skywards, and lovely loch-side vistas are savour.

The highlight of our tour is Loch Ness , probably Scotland’s most famous lake. The stats of this mysterious body are just epic. At 23 miles long and over 250 m (750 ft) in places, there’s plenty of room for a monster to hide. During our extended stop, why not take a monster-spotting cruise to improve your chances of coming face to face with Nessie?

From Fort William, which is overshadowed by Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak, it’s into eerie Glen Coe . We will hear the sad story of the infamous massacre in 1692 while marvelling at the outstanding beauty of this remarkable place.

Soon we cross from the Highlands into the Lowlands and join the motorway for the last part of our tour back to Edinburgh.

This excursion may operate in the reverse direction.

Take a tour to escape the hustle and bustle of city life at the Royal Botanical Gardens . In Leith , there’s the opportunity of visiting the former Royal Yacht Britannia before heading along the famous Royal Mile.

Alternatively, take a stroll through the stately Georgian New Town to see the grand squares, imposing monuments and impressive architecture that got Edinburgh its nickname of “ The Athens of the North ”.

If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, seek out some of the locations that were said to have influenced the global phenomenon. Make a visit to Greyfriars Kirkyard to see the grave of Thomas Riddell, the inspiration for arch-villain Thomas Riddle, Lord Voldemort. Later take a stroll up Victoria Street, where the brightly painted shops may have been the muse for Diagon Alley.

Head to Edinburgh Waverley Station to catch a train to Glasgow at your leisure. The journey time between Scotland’s two great cities is around 50 minutes.

After arriving at Glasgow’s Queen Street Station, head to your city-centre hotel. Tonight, why not head to the historic Merchant City or the “foodie-quarter” of Finnieston to enjoy top-quality cuisine at a friendly eatery?

Overnight: Jury’s Inn, Glasgow (or similar)

Customer Reviews Overall Rating:

Great 4 day tour to Edinburg, The Highlands, Loch Ness and Glasgow. Keep in mind that this tour is for folks who like to travel on trains with instructions and getting to your hotels from the trains with instructions. However, the instructions were incredibly easy to follow as every step of the way is planned out for you. Would recommend this tour company as one of the best that I have ever used. If you have any question or problem they answer you almost immediately. Incredible service from an incredible company.

The city of Edinburgh is beautiful and the Edinburgh Castle is incredible. Our hotel was walking distance to most everything. We did take a hop-on-hop-off bus which took us to the Castle and spent quite a bit of time there. The views of the city from there are beautiful. We had a wonderful tour guide to the Scottish Highlands. He was very informative, friendly and comical. We were concerned that we hadn't had our tickets for any excursions before we began traveling, but were able to pull them when we arrived at our hotel for wifi. All in all we both enjoyed our Scotland trip.

Overall great trip. Would do it again.

Loch Ness Tours

Tours to loch ness.

Without question the most famous stretch of water in the world is Loch Ness. Visiting this famous spot is certainly on many a visitor’s bucket list. Taking a Discover Scotland tour from Edinburgh or Glasgow is one of the best ways to see Loch Ness.

Loch Ness harbours many mysteries and we’ll help you unearth some of them, from its famous monster ‘Nessie’, to ruined Urquhart Castle that rises out of the mist on its shores. The loch forms part of Britain’s longest inland waterway, the 60-mile Caledonian Canal. It cuts through the Scottish Highlands from east to west at the spectacular Great Glen fault-line.

We have one day tours departing daily to Loch Ness from both Edinburgh & Glasgow.  We visit the historic hamlet of Fort Augustus which lies at the southern tip of Loch Ness. As well as time for lunch you will also have the opportunity to take a cruise on Loch Ness.

Our three and four day tours to Skye, the Highlands and Loch Ness, from Edinburgh and Glasgow, call in at Fort Augustus too. There you can watch the boats navigating the pretty canal locks. Alternatively, you can jump aboard a ‘monster-spotting’ cruise to see if you can glimpse our elusive Loch Ness monster. This option is also available on our six day island hopping tours to Mull, Iona, Skye, the Highlands and Loch Ness from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Alternatively, you may choose to to reserve a bespoke private tour that includes a visit to Loch Ness. As our private tours personalised to the interest of each group they can visit other areas of the loch that our scheduled tours do not normally see. They can also participate in more adventurous activities such as a hike or RIB ride.

Kacey Musgraves at O2 Academy, Glasgow.

Kacey Musgraves review – sweet and salty country-pop magic

O2 Academy, Glasgow The Texan star transfixes with her crystal clear voice and flawless band, balancing airy verses on the healing beauty of nature with a dash of darkness

‘L ooks like you came to party!” teases Kacey Musgraves , radiant in a white dress and matching cowboy boots. With a gentle wave, the Texan country star tells us to take it easy. Tonight’s showcase for her introspective sixth album Deeper Well is all mellow magic – but for every airy verse about the healing beauty of nature, there’s a shadowy kicker.

Cardinal , the album’s lead single, is dedicated to the late John Prine. Over an eerily transcendent, 70s-infused guitar melody, she wonders if he’s sending her signs “from the other side”. For a split second, the lights cut out. The gorgeous Heaven Is , inspired by Scottish folk song Ca’ the Yowes, veers from earthly pleasures to mysteries beyond the veil, while The Architect , with its humble strumming and deceptively simple refrain, is split between fate and fatalism: “Could I pray it away, am I shapeable clay? Or is this as good as it gets?”

Flanked by a flawless eight-piece band, Musgraves is an understated presence. Her crystal clear voice is shiver-inducing, but the seven-time Grammy winner makes it look so easy, compelling the crowd to sing with a single raised finger. When she kneels, serenely, during the thunderstorm climax of psychedelic live standout Jade Green , it is as if she’s plucking flowers from the forest floor. Her only misstep is telling a Glaswegian audience she’s excited to visit Edinburgh: “Why are you booing? Do we need to unpack this?” she quips, raising an eyebrow.

For a crowd-pleaser there’s no competing with High Horse , the sunny, sarcastic, disco-influenced single from her acclaimed fourth album Golden Hour , but Musgraves visibly relishes two tracks from its underrated follow-up, Star-Crossed . She litigates her divorce with sultry frustration on Justified , while the fidgety, funky Breadwinner takes aim at a man threatened by her success.

A pedal steel cover of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds offers a holistic, sugary finale, but just as the audience dig into a final repetition of “don’t worry …”, she segues into a few bars of her own music. “Easier said than done,” she murmurs, adding a sprinkle of salt to tone down the sweet.

Taylor Swift says she's 'fired up' to play for Scots fans ahead of Edinburgh Eras Tour show

Kicking off The Eras Tour in Europe, the star sent a message to her UK fans ahead of her tour dates which will see her come to Edinburgh in June alongside special guest Paramore.

  • 13:07, 15 MAY 2024

Fans have been scrambling for tickets since they went on sale last year

Taylor Swift has sent a message to fans ahead of the UK leg of her The Eras Tour as she kicked off her European shows last week with four nights at Paris' La Défense Arena.

In a little less than a month's time, the star will be making her way to the UK with shows in Cardiff, Liverpool, London, and most importantly for Scottish fans, Edinburgh from June 7 until June 9.

Sharing snaps from the stage, Taylor told her army of fans: "This post is dedicated to the new Tortured Poets section of the Eras Tour (aka Female Rage The Musical!) and everyone who made these memories so magical.

READ MORE: Everything Glasgow Taylor Swift fans need to know about ScotRail services ahead of Eras tour

"To my crew, fellow performers, and band who worked tirelessly in their break to concoct this surprise for you - but mostly for the fans in Paris. I’m so thankful that it was you we got to show this to for the first time because you gave us so much excitement, passion, and love."

And in a message that will delight her UK fans, she followed up by offering a message to them, by adding: "I’m SO fired up to play this for every crowd on the tour!"

The tour comes following the recent release of Taylor's 31-track double album, The Tortured Poets Department, and Taylor delighted Frnech fans by playing songs like Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart and loml.

Can you still get tickets for The Eras Tour in the UK?

You can keep an eye on Ticketmaster and AXS for official tickets, as fans who can't attend may resell theirs.

Another option could be checking out the resale ticket websites such as Viagogo and VividSeats , which are selling Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets for shows across the UK.

These sites allow fans to leave their tickets up until they are sold, so there is usually no rush to watch and wait to see if your ideal ticket pops up.

Sites such as Viagogo and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that many event promoters say tickets should not be resold after initial purchase and will not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans attending live events with tickets acquired through resale websites are advised to double-check the ticket terms and conditions at the point of sale - such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation - to ensure a smooth live event experience. Tickets could be voided if they were found to be bought second-hand. As a result, fans are buying at their own risk.

The exact dates and venues for The Eras Tour UK are:

  • Edinburgh June 7 - 9
  • Liverpool June 13 - 15
  • Cardiff June 18
  • London June 21 - 23
  • Dublin June 28 - 30
  • London again August 15 - 20

Hotel prices in Edinburgh soar ahead of Taylor Swift Scottish shows

Thousands of Swifties are set to descend on the capital from around the world when she plays her record-breaking shows on June 7, 8, and 9.

Swifties are in for a Cruel Summer as the price of Edinburgh hotels are averaging £686 per night ahead of the Eras Tour shows at Murrayfield.

Thousands of Taylor Swift fans are set to descend on the capital when she plays her record-breaking shows on June 7, 8, and 9.

Ahead of the sold out shows, Edinburgh City Council granted organisers permission to increase the stadium’s capacity from 67,130 to 72,990.

The subsequent spike in demand means many fans who have already forked out up to £660 for a ticket have been priced out of stays in the city.

Analysis of the advertised online rates at AirBnB, Booking.com and Expedia by marketing firm Searchbloom found Edinburgh’s most expensive stay was the night of the American singer-songwriter’s opening performance, with rooms on the evening of Saturday’s show averaging just £3 less.

The average one-night-stay in Edinburgh on Friday, June 7 comes in at an eye-watering £686.67.

Bosses at one of Glasgow’s top hotels, the new AC Hotel by Marriott Glasgow, say Swifties finding nothing but Blank Space when looking for places to stay in Edinburgh are driving a spike in demand for Glasgow hotels.

The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from Glasgow Queen Street station where regular direct trains to Haymarket, the closest station to Scottish Gas Murrayfield, take less than an hour.

ScotRail recently announced they would be adding extra carriages and services to and from Glasgow to accommodate fans.

A search on trainline.com found return tickets for only £16, with the last train leaving from Haymarket at 11.50pm.

Rooms on Friday night at the AC Hotel by Marriott Glasgow currently come in at just £209, which despite being higher than normal, pale in comparison to hotels on the other end of the M8.

Other Edinburgh hotels, which are typically priced similarly, are currently selling rooms for nearly four times the price at £786.

Craig Munro, general manager at the four star AC Hotel by Marriott Glasgow, said the Swift weekender is already the hotel’s most popular date since it opened in Glasgow’s new £100m Love Loan development in November last year.

He said: “Demand for rooms is far exceeding supply. We closely monitor rates across the city and they are already around 25% higher than normal — but that’s nothing compared to Edinburgh.

“There has been a knock-on effect which has triggered a sharp rise in demand in Glasgow. I reckon the city will be completely full on Friday and Saturday.

“Given our proximity to Queen Street station, we’re seeing the direct benefit of tourists staying in Glasgow and commuting to Edinburgh, not only for Taylor Swift but for other popular events like the Edinburgh Marathon, and during the Fringe too.

“Scotland’s two major cities being so close together is extremely attractive to tourists. I think Edinburgh also benefits from the amazing events that come to Glasgow. It’s undoubtedly a new ‘era’ for Glasgow – it’s becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination.”

ScotRail adds more late trains to Glasgow for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour

Taylor Swift fans from Glasgow will benefit from more late-night trains to get them safely home from the Eras Tour next month.

Thousands of Swifties are expected to descend on Murrayfield in Edinburgh for the pop star's three-night run of the record-breaking tour from June 7 to June 9.

To prepare for the demand for public transport with fans getting to and from the stadium, ScotRail is adding extra seats to trains as well as additional late services from Edinburgh to Glasgow, Dundee, Dunblane, and Perth.

The last train will leave Edinburgh for Glasgow Queen Street at 00.12.

Haymarket station, which is nearest to Murrayfield, is also expected to be much busier than normal during these three days and customers travelling by rail are encouraged to buy return tickets through the mTicket system on the ScotRail app to save queuing and waiting.

Customers are also being reminded of engineering works taking place on Sunday, June 9, between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts, where buses replace trains between West Calder and Glasgow Central, and journey times may take longer.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's customer operations director, said: “It will be fantastic to see so many people travel to Scottish Gas Murrayfield stadium to see Taylor Swift, and ScotRail is delighted to be able to add more seats and extra late-night trains to help fans enjoy the occasion.

“We’re encouraging customers to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel to and from Edinburgh.

“Buying return tickets in advance on the ScotRail app or website will minimise your need to queue, and help your day run smoothly.”
