The Grand Tour return date confirmed in Amazon Prime's Carnage A Trois trailer

Carnage A Trois , which is more of a celebration of France's "weird cars" than a journey around France itself, follows Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as they embark on an "epic road trip" from the Welsh hills to the English Channel.

Following the gang's first UK special earlier this year, The Grand Tour has revealed that its second adventure will debut on Amazon Prime just in time for Christmas.

Friday, December 17 , to be precise.

As well as a gleeful trailer teasing the trio's escapades – including dropping cars from the air and reckless roundabout driving – The Grand Tour has released an official synopsis for the final instalment of its double-bill lockdown feature.

"In this second lockdown special, the trio dive into the bizarre world of French car culture," it reads.

"On an epic road trip starting in the Welsh hills, they dish up a hair-raising mountain climb, bomb defusals, propeller powered cars, helicopter stunts, and the most thrilling race of their lives before reaching the English Channel for a jaw dropping medieval climax.

"And a soupcon of French art house cinema."

Carnage A Trois comes after The Grand Tour was forced to reassess its globe-trotting premise in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

While the series has understandably turned its attention to the UK for 2021, James May said last year that plans for a Russia special have not been cancelled entirely.

"We're just having to put it in the cupboard at the moment," he admitted. "But we will get it out one day and finish it off."

The Grand Tour airs on Amazon Prime Video .

The next instalment of The Grand Tour – technically season 4, episode 5 – just wrapped filming. But when will the next The Grand Tour 2022 special get a release date on Amazon Prime? Let’s find out…

Jeremy Clarkson is a busy man. During the past 12 months, he has been filming and finishing the second season of Clarkson’s Farm as well as the next instalment of The Grand Tour which recently wrapped filming.

The next episode – or special, if you will – of The Grand Tour, often simply referred to as The Grand Tour 2022 or season four, episode 5, takes place in Norway and will feature Clarkson, Hammond, and May, although plot details, save for the location, are scant at present.

The trio have filmed in Scandinavia before; Top Gear did a special in Finland many moons ago. This time, under The Grand Tour brand, the trio will return, this time to Norway. But it won’t be limited to Norway, the trio will also venture – I’m assuming in cars – up to the Arctic Circle for some trademark shenanigans.

The Grand Tour 2022 Special Release Date

Filming for the next instalment of The Grand Tour has now wrapped. This means all that is left to do before the show airs is editing. Once the editing is done and Amazon signs off on the content, The Grand Tour season five will be scheduled for release on Amazon Prime. As for an official release date, nothing is confirmed just yet but given the special’s snowy focus, a release during Christmas 2022 would make a lot of sense.

Since switching formats, the show now runs on a bi-yearly schedule, so the guys shoot one special a year. The last was in the UK, with a French twist, thanks to COVID. But from here on out, now that travel restrictions are returning to normal, the guys should off to plenty more exotic locations in future episodes of The Grand Tour. That is unless they decide to retire, an idea James May is said to flirting with.

The Grand Tour 2022 Special Plot

Not too much, save for the location, is known about the plot for The Grand Tour 2022 Special. We know it’ll take place in Norway, end up in the Arctic Circle, and feature the usual challenges and hijinks the trio is known for, although Clarkson has confirmed – via Instagram posts – that they also visit Poland, Gdansk, and Slovenia too. It’s shaping up to be a huge road trip.

Like The Grand Tour’s previous out, Carnage A Trois, the latest instalment will have a running time of around 90 minutes – the guys tend to only do special/feature-length episodes now after ditching the episodic tent-based format.

What Can We Expect Car-Wise From The Grand Tour 2022 Special?

It’s always hard to predict what cars the guys will opt for when doing specials. It could be a selection of bangers or a set of high-end luxury cars – it usually goes either way. The Grand Tour Christmas Special: Episode 6 Trailer

The Grand Tour celebrates a Finnish Christmas from Kakslauttanen, deep within the Arctic Circle. In this show, Richard Hammond is very excited by the UK arrival of the very first Ford Mustang to be made in right-hand-drive and then very annoyed when Jeremy Clarkson turns up with a Ford Focus RS loudly claiming that it’s better.

Meanwhile, James May recounts the epic battle between Ford and Ferrari for supremacy in the Le Mans endurance race of the 1960s. Plus, the presenters have some Christmas gift suggestions for the car enthusiast.

Clarkson, Hammond, & May in Vietnam

Specials were originally episodes of the original format of Top Gear that focused on one specific motoring topic, such as the 100th anniversary of the land speed record, or car maintenance. Following the show's reboot in 2002 , specials became episodes where the presenters went on a road trip through a foreign country and examined its motoring culture.

In 2015, the BBC refused to renew the contract of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson after he punched a producer during filming, causing the departures of Clarkson's fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond. Clarkson, Hammond and May's new show, The Grand Tour , has continued making specials on Amazon Prime. New Top Gear presenters Chris Harris, Andrew Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness have continued creating specials for Top Gear.

As of 2022, the original Top Gear had 23 specials, while the rebooted Top Gear has 12. The Grand Tour has 10.

The boys are back with a brand new episode of The Grand Tour. This time, they are headed to Mauritania for their penultimate adventure – and viewers can watch it now!

In the latest episode, titled Sand Job, the trio will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally, but they'll have to take on their adventure in modified sports cars.

It'll no doubt be an exciting episode, with Richard Hammond previously teasing a "surprise" for the episode.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com ahead of the launch, Hammond revealed: "There was there was a surprise arrival in [the] minefield, because it's [Mauritania] still on the red list in terms of travel, and the last thing you want in or near a minefield is a surprise.

'There was a scary encounter with some Ebola carrying bats. My car, the Aston Martin, was the troublesome one of the bunch because it comes from an era when cars were just becoming intelligent... and that gave me no end prompt. Plus, the guys just destroyed me as well. There was quite a bit of pranking."

The trio have previously filmed in far-flung locations such as Colombia, Vietnam and Switzerland - and next time will be no different.

The newest instalment will see the trio head back to Africa, as they have this time filmed the show in Mauritiana, a country in the Northwest of the continent.

Speaking of the location, Clarkson said: "I love deserts, so I've always wanted to do the Sahara, but it's difficult to go there; you can't go to Mali or Libya or Algeria or Chad. You can't go to the top of Nigeria.

"And then it was really a question of finding the most inappropriate cars for trans-Sahara travel, and I think we did a pretty good job on that."

In their three favorite rally cars, Hammond, Clarkson, and May race from the coasts of Norway to the Russian border

The Grand Tour will return on September 16, 2022, as the trio of James May, Richard Hammond, and Jeremy Clarkson will tour snowy Scandinavia in three all-wheel-drive, rally-inspired cars.

According to Amazon Studios, the special will see Hammond , Clarkson, and May “at the wheel of their three favorite rally cars” embarking “on a catastrophe-filled adventure that takes in Cold War submarine bases, frozen lake racetracks, crashes, and ski resort chaos as they drag their homemade houses from the coast of Norway to the Russian border.”

Although the official challenge is to take their favorite rally car around the northernmost part of Europe, as May and Hammond point out, the Audi that Clarkson chose was built quite a few years after the brand’s rallying heyday .

Regardless, the Audi RS4 will take on a Subaru Impreza WRX STI and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII in a series of challenges that sees the cars towing skiers and cabins and racing through the snow.

In a trailer for the new special, May appears to be driving the yellow Mitsubishi Evo VIII, which apparently was the cause of some distress. As previously reported , while driving through a tunnel at a Norwegian naval base near Tromsø, he reportedly lost control of the car at 75 mph (121 km/h) and crashed into a rock wall.

Indeed, a shot near the end of the trailer appears to show the Mitsubishi sliding sideways into a wall in a tunnel at a particularly high rate of speed. May reportedly suffered at least one broken rib and an impact to the head that bloodied him. Fortunately, the host has been publishing videos on YouTube as recently as three weeks ago , suggesting that he suffered no lasting damage in the incident.

The episode will be titled The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick , a reference to the driving style made famous by Scandinavian rally drivers, who first turned away from a corner, then into it, in order to encourage a vehicle to rotate and slide through a slippery turn.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s Grand Tour Tenure Is Coming to an End

The Grand Tour’s end comes just weeks after the BBC indefinitely shut down Top Gear.

The old Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May will be hitting your screen as the hosts of The Grand Tour for the final time in 2024. The two final episodes have now been filmed, taking place in Mauritania and Zimbabwe, where the trio we've grown to love will close a chapter that's been three decades in the making.

“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I won’t be doing that any more," Clarkson told The Times .

Since The Grand Tour launched in 2016, after Clarkson was fired from Top Gear for punching a producer, it's gone through several changes. First, it was essentially a Top Gear recreation, with celebrity interviews and an in-studio live show. Then they tightened it up by ditching the celebrity stuff. Eventually, they ditched the live show altogether and just made feature-length specials. And while none of The Grand Tour's iterations managed to capture the magic of Top Gear at its best , it was still one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime . Millions of people tuned in to watch the automotive equivalent of the Three Stooges (and I mean that as a grand compliment).

All three hosts have their own projects to pursue outside of The Grand Tour anyway. Clarkson has his farm show and May has a travel show, both of which are also on Amazon Prime , while Hammond still does a lot of work for DriveTribe , while also presenting other TV programs. So they'll still be around, even though The Grand Tour won't be.

This news also comes just a couple of weeks after the BBC decided to indefinitely shut down Top Gear . After host Freddie Flintoff's accident during filming and the subsequent settlement, the BBC decided against renewing the show. Clarkson doesn't blame the most recent trio of Top Gear hosts for not wanting to return, either, specifically Flintoff.

"Richard Hammond was always keen to get back to work [following a crash], whereas Freddie isn’t," Clarkson told The Sun . "I don’t blame him. I know what happened on that awful day and it was horrific."

Clarkson even said that anyone who wants to take over in Flintoff's spot would come across as "heartless."

In a matter of weeks, the world learned that the two most entertaining car shows on TV are shutting down. We all knew this day was coming soon, as the original Top Gear gang are all either in their sixties or getting quite close, but it's still a little sad to see them go. Sure, their most recent work pales in comparison to the shows from their prime but, like most millennial car nerds, Clarkson, Hammond, and May made an indelible impression on me and the way I look at cars, and I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

The Grand Tour Wales Special: What You Need To Know About The Upcoming Episode

With The Grand Tour revealing that a new trailer for the next Wales / England special is coming in a mere two days, we thought we’d put together everything we know about the upcoming episode.

Filming Begins In Wales

Filming of the episode began in late April earlier this year in Wales, specifically Crickhowell, South Powys. Richard Hammond was spotted driving a Renault Scenic, and while being filmed by the surrounding cameramen, he crashed into a number of parked cars in an attempt to park.

Passers-by were able to pull out their phones and record what went down:

Funnily enough, despite being obviously staged with the action being surrounded by large cameras, the police were still alerted. They gave the following quote on Twitter:

“Hi Philip, thanks for getting in touch. We are aware of some filming happening in and around this area at the moment, but thanks for letting us know.”

After this initial run of filming, Jeremy was seen later driving a Citroen CX near the Metropole Hotel, still in Wales.

Filming Continues Is England

A day later, the famous trio was seen filming in Leamington Spa, a town in the West Midlands of England. Jeremy was seen driving the CXfrom before and he was joined by Richard Hammond driving a Talbot-Matra Murena and James May driving a Renault Avantime MPV.

With news of their filming spreading like wildfire, the local area was soon full of fans trying to get in on the action, causing huge traffic jams across the area. It’s safe to say, they received quite a few complaints over this.

Jeremy Clarkson Drives Mike Brewer’s Citroen SM. 

Since their filming in Leamington, Jeremy was photographed filming with a classic Citroen SM in Beachy Head, Eastbourne with Richard sat in the passenger seat. After some research, we found that this car actually belonged to Mike Brewer, but it has since been put up for auction.

James, while not in the car, was seen close by.

Judging by the sheer size of the camera crew and the fact that they were being followed by a helicopter, we expect this to be a huge production.

The Grand Tour Trio Deemed “Litter Louts”

At the end of April, a video was uploaded to social media by Mark Easthope which showed the aftermath of the team filming in Powys. After filming, it looked as though the team left car parts thrown across a field including bumper pieces, headlights, and mirrors. Obviously, they were filming something of high action with plenty of destruction, but they’d forgotten to clear up when they’d finished.

The Grand Tour was tagged, and the video picked up a lot of traction as the retweets and likes started rolling in.

Executive producer Andy Wilman quickly released a statement about this and the mess was cleared up quickly:

“I wouldn’t want anyone to think we’re litter louts who just come to the countryside and use it as a playground, because we absolutely don’t do that. “It happened on our watch. It wasn’t our policy to turn our backs on whatever we do. We had a system in place, in cooperation with the landowner, and it was a mistake rather than a cavalier attitude. “Even though it was a genuine oversight and not an act of disregard for our surroundings, he (Mr Easthope) was right to kick off.”

The tweets have since been deleted, but Easthope thanked the team for acting quickly and efficiently.

“Thank you to #AndyWilman and @thegrandtour for taking responsibility and apologising,” he posted. “After my walk today I’m glad to report that this has now been cleared up, so again #ThankYou.”

Trailer Release Date

This morning, The Grand Tour published a photo to their social media with a clue of when the next trailer will be dropping for the upcoming episode.

Zooming in on the image, you’ll see the date 25 November, confirming that the trailer will be released in two days time.
