Find Your Grand Adventure with a 2024 Guided Tour
2024 guided tours are filling up. find your adventure today.
With an Adventure Cycling Guided Tour, you can count on five things:
- Curated experiences traversing the histories, cultures, and landscapes of the U.S.
- A tour type to fit your travel style
- Small groups of 10-15 participants, except for our larger Fully Supported Events
- A fully planned trip, without the worry of routing, navigation, or reservations, from an experienced organization
- Warm fuzzies knowing your Guided Tour purchase supports a nonprofit and its mission, not a for-profit company
We’re excited to hit the road with you!
Our goal is to facilitate a life-changing journey with a Guided Tour that fits your needs. Our Guided Tours provide a range of experiences: long weekend to epic, pavement to dirt, historically focused to earning the scenic vistas. They also come in a variety of lengths and difficulties as well as different levels of support and price points. We offer everything from self-sufficient nights under the stars to fully catered experiences and inn-to-inn options.
Every tour comes with knowledgeable Tour Leaders, routing, navigation, and reservations. All you have to do is participate! Some tours provide opportunities to get to know your fellow riders better, such as group-made meals and grocery shopping, while other types of tours are less interactive. Participation in these small group activities on some tour types is all part of the Adventure Cycling experience.
“Without a doubt, the best part of the tour was the friendships we made. We came from all levels of experience. Everyone was supportive. Every single day, no matter what the difficulty of the day, we laughed.” – Sam, Tour Participant
Types of Tours
We have a variety of tour formats that suit different styles of touring. All come in different lengths and levels of difficulty, which we call Adventure Levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 5. Generally, our tours have between 10 and 15 participants, with the exception being our larger Fully Supported Events.
Self-Contained This type of touring is all pedal power and no vehicular support. All shared gear is carried by the group, and cooking responsibilities rotate among its members. A majority of nights are spent outdoors under the stars. An indoor stay or restaurant may be sprinkled in just when you need it the most.
Inn-to-Inn This is the type of tour for those of us who prefer the comforts of a cozy bed. As the name suggests, each night is spent indoors. Breakfasts and dinners are enjoyed in restaurants. Although there is no vehicle support, you’ll only need to carry the minimal gear of your clothes, toiletries, basic repair items, water, and a bag lunch for the day.
Van-Supported If you prefer touring without the load of a full set of panniers, but you still love camping, we have a van and trailer to haul your gear. Just worry about pedaling. Carry nothing more than water/lunch/snacks and maybe some rain gear if the weather’s dodgy. You’ll still have fun with your partner rotating on camp cooking duty. But not to worry, on certain tours, there are occasional restaurant meals and indoor stays.
Fully Supported and Family Adventure Events The top level of support! Meals are catered. Luggage is hauled. Starry night camping for those into tents and motel options for those who aren’t. Water and snack stops along the route. Just enjoy the riding, the scenery, and the people to your front and back. These tours are larger in size (20–50 participants) and staffed by several tour leaders all looking out for you.
Education Not sure you’re ready to take the leap into full-on independent touring? Our Intro to Road and Intro to Gravel Touring & Bikepacking courses help you break down the basics. There’s some in-person classroom work before setting out as a group on a short self contained tour. We also offer Leadership Training Courses for those experienced in bike touring but want to start leading their own groups.
“This was my first organized multiday trip. I was traveling solo and I had a wonderful time. I could set my own pace and never felt rushed. The food was fantastic and there was lots of it! I can’t say enough good things about the leaders. I will definitely sign up for another one.” – Kelly, Tour Participant
Doing Good with Every Pedal Stroke
Adventure Cycling is a nonprofit. Every Guided Tour purchase supports our mission of inspiring, empowering, and connecting people to travel by bicycle.
For nearly 50 years, we’ve been researching and mapping one of the largest bicycle route systems in the world. And we’re not done yet. Our programs focus on making bicycle travel more accessible to more people through mapping short and long routes, hosting educational resources and events, and creating an open, supportive community for all riders.
All of our tours are listed below. If you have any questions, give us a call or reach out through our online chat. We’re here for you — because Your Adventure Awaits!

“ I’ve done a number of tours with Adventure Cycling and loved them all, but this was the best group I’ve been with. The people on this trip were just plain fun. I loved everywhere we got to see.” — Jeff, Tour Participant “ I love the little towns, particularly Patagonia. Tombstone was interesting but did not get to see much of it. Bisbee is a fascinating and historic community. The roads were generally fine and not too busy. The terrain was sufficiently challenging, but not intimidating for this early season rider who was not in top shape.” — Stephanie, Tour Participant

Moscow Bike Tours - All You MUST Know Before You Go (2024)
There is a variety of sightseeing programs for tourists who want to see Moscow and to visit the most interesting places.
The choice is really wide: there are options for walking tours, bus tours, some people prefer boat trips in the city centre, but most travellers get acquainted with the sights of the capital by themselves, taking advantage of the subway or taxi.
We provide tourists with new urban bikes and riding them is a pure pleasure.
We individually make up the tour with a tourist: you can choose standard routes or select places you want to visit.
Our instructors know the history of Moscow and they can tell you fascinating, unusual and interesting stories, you will learn a lot about the culture, customs and architecture. We often organize bicycle tours and excursions not only for tourists but also for Muscovites.
We provide guided tours in almost any weather: of course, if it is raining cats and dogs, poor visibility because of hail or a strong blizzard that can blow cyclist with the bicycle away, we don't go to the routes. In all other cases, bike tours are on: just get dressed for the weather, arm yourself with a good mood and hit the road with us!
We provide guided tours in English, Russian and Spanish. Our sense of humour knows no language boundaries and we are certain to find common ground with tourists of all ages, nationalities and social status as all the information is delivered in an easy manner and it's nothing like boring lectures from history textbooks.
Our instructors ride across Moscow every day, they know all bikeways and main routes so that they will navigate you through the best places. You can make any number of stops: get impressions, take pictures - you are not limited by anything, we are not in a hurry during the bike tours (this is an important advantage over the bus and walking tours, which are strictly time scheduled and there are just a few minutes to see monuments).
All inclusive: bike rental (chosen individually) and guide escort. Please note that we provide a 15% discount for the seniors, students and children.
We do advise to book the tour in advance for the date of your choice: our bike tours are very popular; sometimes we have a “red-ink booking” one week in advance, so you’d better to pre-book the time.
Payment for bike tour can be done by credit card or in cash on the day of the tour as well as before the scheduled date.
An interesting and intense program for tourists who like fresh air, fountains, beautiful avenues, hills, ponds and lush green areas.
All of Moscow's parks are made ready for biking and you would not have to overcome obstacles, rocky trailways and make extra effort for the passage of clayey roads.
Gorky Park - Peter the Great Statue - Neskuchny Garden - Sparrow Hills - Luzhniki - Sparrow Hills Observation Platform - Moscow State University - Novodevichy Convent - Church of St. Nicholas in Khamovniki - Christ the Savior Cathedral - Alexander Gardens.
A fascinating journey for those who fancy night-lights, high speeds and the beauty of the night sky. Moscow in the evening attracts cyclists and many take to the routes only at nightfall because, firstly, there are fewer pedestrians on sidewalks (which allows to ride at a higher speed), and secondly, night roads are totally different after the sunset.
Bolotnaya Square - Peter the Great Statue - Sparrow Hills - Neskuchny Garden - embankment of the Moscow River - Luzhniki – Observation platform - Novodevichy Convent - White House - Ministry of Foreign Affairs –Old Arbat - Gogol Boulevard - Christ the Savior Cathedral - Patriarchal bridge.
Do you want to see all the major attractions, parks, ponds, fountains, architectural masterpieces, unique skyscrapers of Moscow City, historical monuments, to plunge into the history and see the present day potentialities of the city?
If so, then you should go on the grand cycling tour that will gift you many experiences and allow you to see the places Moscow is so famous for. We are sure you will remember much of what you will have seen and in the future, you will go through the photos taken during this bicycle tour only with pleasure.
Red Square - Saint Basil's Cathedral - Bolshoi Theater - Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building - Boulevard Ring - Clean Ponds - Sretensky Monastery - Patriarch's Ponds - Ostozhenka - Old Arbat - Novodevichy Convent - Luzhniki - Sparrow Hills - Moscow State University - Neskuchny Garden - Gorky Park - Muzeon - Christ the Savior Cathedral - Peter the Great Statue.
See off the day at sunset and greet the dawn at the most exciting venues in Moscow where stunning views open over the city. The very first and the last rays of the sun illuminate the capital quite out of the ordinary, and therefore some cyclists go for a ride at twilight or early in the morning. You also have the opportunity to witness two unique events: falling asleep and waking up of the city. Well, actually even late at night Moscow is constantly on the move, but of course, it's not the same as during the day.
The main point for cyclists is the absence of pedestrians on sidewalks that allows for any speed and racing on the roads at night without any problems. In the city centre cafes and cosy street restaurants are welcomingly open all the time and we can pop in to any place our liking to take a rest, have a coffee or a bite.
Red Square - KGB - Peter the Great Statue - Bolotnaya Square - Sparrow Hills - Observation platform - Novodevichy Convent - Cathedral of Christ the Savior - White House - Patriarch's Ponds - Tverskaya street - Arbat and, optionally, night bookstore "Moscow", bars, cafes, etc.

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.

All supported tours include an escort rider, a support vehicle, or both. And all private self-guided tours offer your choice of an escort rider, a support vehicle, or both.
Private and Custom Tours Available
Your group. Your pace. Your tour. Most programs include options for private tours, where you ride with family or friends along with options for a private guide and/or support van with driver. Nearly every private tour can be adapted to be shorter/easier or longer/harder. Your guide will contact you in advance to discuss route options based on your interests, preferences and riding experience. It’s your ride!

What our guests say.
Overall this was more than just a ride- it was a carefully planned and professionally implemented event providing not only a bike riding experience through astounding scenery but a degree of exposure to the local culture, cuisine and the ancient and modern history which has uniquely shaped these beautiful places and their people. Ride and Seek are to be congratulated on providing such a virtuoso performance! Chris B
It was a privilege to join the inaugural Samurai tour with Ride and Seek! The riding was as good as I’ve experienced anywhere. We were immersed in pristine beauty, crystal clear rivers and a “back in time” look at rural Japan! Jon F
Not just another bike tour, but a complete adventure; places, distances, terrain, vistas, gastronomy, history, stories and people from all walks that you would never meet in ordinary life; managed with care and attention every day to get us safely home. Alex B
After my 12 years of riding bike tours, I believe Dylan and his guides have the magic formula. Every detail is covered and no request is too large, so all I needed to do was turn the pedals and enjoy the ride. I can’t say enough about the route, food, wine, and accommodations, however, the icing on the cake is their knowledge of the local history and culture. Ted V
The most complete cycling trip I have ever experienced. Every day contained challenging cycling, breathtaking scenery, and multiple opportunities to experience the history and culture. Dylan and his expert team of guides managed a set of formidable logistics flawlessly. Hats off to Ride and Seek for this amazing journey! Christine C
The ability to achieve climbing both Mt Ventoux and Alpe d’Heuz at age 71 made this experience one of a lifetime. It proves to me, once again, that regardless of age, one can target accomplishment and achievement beyond the comprehension of most. The planning and execution of Ride and Seek made this possible for me and I will forever be grateful! Thank you! Jerry P
I signed up for Hannibal ride because of the combination of historical story and the cycling adventure. It met all my expectations. Excellently organised and supported in every way. I am a slow rider up hills (the slowest) but there were plenty of opportunities for me to ride at my own pace and I appreciated that flexibility by the guides. Robert R
A spectacular, challenging, exquisite, unforgettable experience. When you ride and seek you will hit the bed each night knowing you are truly alive and you have experienced something very special. Luke N

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Definitive Guide To Cross The Country Cycling
The Bicycle
Long distance bicycle trips require what’s called a touring bike—a strong bicycle, generally with a steel frame, that can hold heavy equipment. The Adventure Cycling Association publishes a yearly guide on purchasing touring bikes.
If you plan to mostly cycle on main roads in Russia, a touring bicycle is a great choice. But because most roads in rural Russia are unpaved, a mountain bike might be a better option for riding in the country. If you’re going to spend most of your trip cycling in Russia on backroads, opt for a mountain bike instead.
Flying With Your Bike
Bringing a bicycle on an airplane requires taking it apart and putting it in a shipping box. City Bikes offers a complete guide , with pictures, on how to box up a bike. Alternatively, most bike shops will box your bike for a small fee.
British Airways allows passengers to travel with a bicycle for free as part of their checked baggage allowance and flies to nine cities in Russia including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Ufa.
Russian carrier Aeroflot also permits passengers to fly with bicycles for free as part of their checked baggage. Aeroflot has connecting flights to all major cities in Russia and flies to North America, Europe, and Asia.
What to Bring
To carry your stuff on tour, you’ll need a pair of waterproof panniers—saddlebags that hang from racks over the wheels of your bike. Surly Bikes offers front and rear racks made of steel that will hold up under rough riding. The Ortlieb Classic Front and Rear Rollers are some of the most popular and durable panniers on the market today.
Other useful accessories on any bike tour are a PETZL Headlamp , a Camelbak H.A.W.G. Backpack for carrying water, a bug jacket for the summer mosquitoes, orange visibility vests and flashing tail lights to make you stand out to drivers, bike locks to secure your bicycle in cities, dry bags to give your clothes an added layer of protection against the rain, and bicycle helmets .
Many cyclists have posted their complete gear lists on the website www.crazyguyonabike.com .
Where to Stay
Most major cities and small towns in Russia have hotels. But unless you’re traveling in populated areas of European Russia, like the Golden Ring, you will probably need a tent.
The Sierra Designs Lightning 2 tent weighs just 1.56 kg and is a good lightweight option for 1-2 people. Even in summer, temperatures in Russia can become cold at night, so it’s recommended to take a warm sleeping bag like a North Face Green Kazoo and a sleeping pad for added insulation.
In Siberia, you can camp almost anywhere, but it’s always a good idea to ask permission first if there’s a house nearby.
What to Eat
Some cyclists prefer to cook on portable cookstoves, like the MSR WhisperLite Stove , while others prefer to eat out.
If you’re riding on back roads in rural Russia, stock up on supplies beforehand and plan how much food you’ll need to make it to the next city. Broken bicycles or bad roads can slow you down, so anticipate that your journey might take 3-5 days longer than expected and bring enough food to tide you over.
In European Russia, or on the M-56 Federal Highway—the main road across Siberia—you can usually count on finding a roadside cafe every 50-70 kilometers. Russian cafes are quite affordable and offer a broader range of food options than you might find in most stores in small Russian towns.
Many Russian cafes will also allow cyclists to camp in their yards. By sleeping at a cafe, cyclists can eat both dinner and breakfast without having to cook and wash dishes.
If you find yourself on the road in Russia without a good map, many gas stations carry regional maps.
