How do I use the trip computer in my Ford?

The trip computer in your vehicle keeps track of the time and distance you have traveled. The trip computer has several menu options that you can access by using the five-way controls on your steering wheel. Press down, up, left, or OK to scroll through the options, which include:

  • Distance to Empty: Indicates the approximate distance your vehicle can travel before running out of fuel.
  • Trip Odometer: Registers the distance you have traveled on an individual trip.
  • Trip Timer: Keeps track of how long each trip takes. The timer stops when you turn your vehicle off and restarts when you restart your vehicle.
  • Average Fuel: Shows the average fuel economy for a given trip.
  • Outside Temperature: Shows the outside air temperature.
  • Digital Odometer: Tracks the overall distance you have traveled.
  • All Values: Shows the Distance to Empty, Trip Odometer, Trip Timer, and Average Fuel.

Using Your Trip Computer

Setting your trip odometer to track an individual trip.

  • Scroll to either the Trip Odometer, Trip Timer, or Average Fuel screen using the five-way steering wheel controls.
  • Press and hold the OK button until you see the status bar loading. When the status bar fills in all the way, your computer will be reset.

Resetting All Trip Computers

  • Scroll to the All Values screen using the five-way steering wheel controls.
  • Press and hold OK until you see that the computer is reset to zero.

Changing the Display Information

  • Go to Settings from the main menu.
  • Measure Unit or Distance depending on your vehicle
  • Temperature

Note: Some vehicles may come with an additional trip computer, Trip 2. It has the same features as Trip 1 and makes keeping track of multiple trips easier.

How to reset the odometer on Ford Fusion

Posted by victoriamgclub | Feb 25, 2020 | Ford Fusion | 0 |

Modern vehicles are equipped with a notable quantity of options, and now you can even listen to Deezer on your car. On the other hand, some basic options are still quite useful. Obviously, being aware of the range of your Ford Fusion is part of the basic knowledge in order not to run out of gas. Most of us tend to do the same thing, wanting to reset the odometer of our Ford Fusion to zero after filling it up to know how many kilometers we’re going to drive . In this article, we will show you how to reset the odometer on Ford Fusion . In a first time, we will be interested in how this day counter works and, in a second time, how to reset this trip odometer and in a last part, if it is possible to decrease the mileage of its Ford Fusion.

How does the trip odometer operate on Ford Fusion?

Let’s start our content with how your meter works. Although it’s not necessary to figure out how your car works, it’s still wise and practical to know the fundamentals. If you’re questioning about resetting your odometer to Ford Fusion , then this part will definitely interest you. The odometer or odometer totalizer of your car employed to be mechanical, and has now been changed to electronic. The goal of this replace is specifically to fight against mileage fraud , indeed, some individuals knew how to change mechanical odometers to reduce or reset the mileage of a Ford Fusion in order to sell it for more than its real value. In the mechanical version, it works with a system of drums linked to a cable that is driven by the gearbox output shaft or the differential . Finally for the electronic version, the most basic on the Ford Fusion, it is a sensor that can be placed in different locations based on the year of your Ford Fusion and that transmits the mileage data to the onboard computer.

Reset the daily mileage counter to zero on Ford Fusion

. Now let’s move on to the most necessary step, how to reset the daily odometer of your Ford Fusion? Nevertheless this step is often easy to conduct, some of you, new buyers of Ford Fusion for example, may not be knowledgeable with the procedure to conduct this process. We will now check out the different ways to reset the trip odometer to zero on Ford Fusion:

  • Hold the right button on your dashboard for some seconds until zero is shown on the trip odometer
  • If this button does not operate, you can use the right-hand counter comodo by pressing the button at its end for a few seconds until the odometer of your Ford Fusion is reset to zero.
  • Finally, on some of the newer models, you may need to search your car’s centre console and display, going through your car’s configurations to reset it to zero

. If you want to reset the service counter of your Ford Fusion , please browse our content on this topic.

Rollback or lower the mileage of his Ford Fusion odometer

Last part, which may interest some of you, how to lower the mileage of his Ford Fusion . Know already that this action is totally not allowed by the law , and that if you conduct this work, you risk up to 2 years in prison and 300, 000 euros fine. Nevertheless, if you have doubts about the mileage of a Ford Fusion before you buy it, it might be interesting to know how scammers work.

  • Resetting a mechanical odometer to zero on Ford Fusion: Even though they are becoming more and more rare, mechanical odometers are the least difficult to tamper with, in reality, it was enough to simply find the cable of the meter, disconnect it, and plug a drill on it to make it turn upside down and raise or lower the mileage of its Ford Fusion.
  • Reset electronic odometer to zero on Ford Fusion; Finally, the now basic electronic odometers that were expected to fight fraud efficiently are no more invulnerable than the mechanical variants. Obviously, using the diagnostic socket of your Ford Fusion, it is possible to reset the odometer of your Ford Fusion , with the help of a computer and software it is possible to modify the mileage data displayed on your dashboard.

2009 Fusion, Trip Odometer Issue

Hello! Still new to the forum, haven't had a need to ask a question yet until now.

Wife and I got a 2009 SE about a year ago and overall have enjoyed the car. Have had a few simple warranty fixes and replaced a door handle myself (Wahoo!) and now have a unique issue.

About twice a month, the trip odometer seems to loose its mind. We typically reset the trip odometer (both) after filling up fuel. Just a habit. However, sometimes one or both of the trip odometer will completely go wacky and read a bogus milage. For example, we will have driven 200 miles but one of the trips will say 500-800, or one of the trips will drop down to 20-80 or something similar. Next fill up, I reset both and they will behave normally for the tank of fuel.

Edit: The primary odometer reads normal all the time, steadily adding miles and it has not had any problems.

We still have some miles left on the extended warranty, but I thought I would ask here first and see if any of you other owners have even heard of this. I'm trying to stack a few issues together on one trip to the dealer to avoid multiple deductible payments on the warranty.

Thanks all!

  • You must select content in both columns before you can save your new MyView.
  • Vehicle Range (Energi vehicles only) – Indicates the estimated distance your vehicle will travel with the energy currently onboard. Separately displays range available in Hybrid Mode fueled by gasoline, electric range available in Plug-in Power Mode, and total range. Gasoline range and electric range are also shown on the bottom of the right information display. Changes in driving pattern and climate control use will cause the values to vary.
  • Accessory Power— Indicates electrical power demands from your vehicle’s accessory systems. Accessories use power but do not contribute to propelling your vehicle. The gauge separately displays power demand in kilowatts (kW) for climate and other accessories. Climate includes the power being used by high voltage climate control components such as the electric A/C compressor and the electric heater (Energi vehicles only). Other includes all power being used by the low voltage accessories (cabin fans, headlights, heated seats, etc.).
  • Coolant Temp – Indicates engine coolant temperature. At normal operating temperature, the level indicator will be white and will be in the normal range (between H and C). If the engine coolant temperature exceeds the normal range, the level indicator will change to red to indicate that the engine is overheating. Stop your vehicle as soon as safely possible, turn your vehicle off and let the engine cool.
  • Tach rpm x 1000 — When the gasoline engine is running, the tachometer gauge displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute (RPM). When your vehicle is operating on battery power only with the engine off, EV displays and the tachometer is greyed out.

Resetting Trip Odometer

  • Add to quote

Hi, Does anyone know how I go about resetting JUST the trip mileage on a 2016 Mondeo Titanium? If I hold 'OK' to reset 'Trip Computer 1' it resets ALL values related to that view. In my Kuga, I could reset the individual metrics. Any Ideas? Thanks

Well I have only had my Sept 2015 build a couple of days but I have reset the individual choices re trip and fuel etc. Info starts on page 87 of my H/Book and there are 3 types of Information Displays so it may depend on which one you have (Only another 400 pages to read up on!!!!)

how to reset trip odometer ford fusion

Your not able to on the mondo, it's all or nothing!

....whar about just scrolling down and use trip 2 for your reset and that way you can keep all trip 1 data.

I will double check mine again tomorrow but I am sure I reset the trip only yesterday. As described in the H/Book I have the Type 3 Display - the display is in the centre of the rev counter (Must upgrade my signature to Mk5)

Hi, Yep, I have the Type 3 display and can only reset ALL of the trip information displayed on either Trip1 or Trip2 and not the individual metrics (I only want to reset the trip odometer and NOT the average mileage etc.). Bit pants really as I could do it on the lesser spec'd cluster on my Kuga. Mark

Had another look. As expected guys you are quite right. Mark, agree, I could do everything individually on my lovely old Sport

My last tank doesn't match the trip by a long shot, has me a bit concerned too. 94 miles on a half tank of gas just doesn't sound right. Hoping its just a software glitch.

Just wanted to update. The trip an dodo match, I must have reset it after I left the dealer. I have 1,500 miles on the vehicle now and I get 38.1 miles to the gallon. The gallon meter and the MPG in dash is always off when compared to fill up gallons and mileage traveled.

However, I am disappointed with the actual mileage versus the stated mileage. Overall 38 MPG isn't bad and getting ~390 miles at each on a tank is so much nicer than the ~240 miles and $50 it cost before. A little off the 47 MPG I expected but ~38 is almost 20% off. How would Ford like it if there manufacturing costs varied by 20%; I am sure they wouldn't and they would find someone who can get to at least the 95 percentile.

Resetting Trip Odometer?

how to reset trip odometer ford fusion

It's time to fill my tank for the first time and I can't seem to find how to reset the Trip A odometer so I can track my gas mileage. Can someone offer an assist? Thank you.

Hold the OK button for 3 seconds.

Hahahaha! So simple, thanks!

Another neat feature is when you are on the screen that shows all four categories, if you push and hold OK for three seconds all values are reset. Much easier than having to scroll through and reset each one like I've been doing in my Audi A4 for years.

The quad screen is from TSB 13-2-1.

http://www.fordservicecontent.com/pubs/content/~WT/~MUS~LEN/3521/tsb13-02-01.pdf If you want this update, tell them the low fuel light is coming on early and that you can Only get 11 ?? gallons upon refueling after the light has come on. If you just say I want the four quadrant screen some dealers will not do the sw upgrade.

Pressing okay button is the answer of course, but there were 3 okay buttons, for the trip odometer it's the one on the left side of the steering wheel. Now if I could get my phone to sync up I'd be all set!

how to reset trip odometer ford fusion

Where are the other 2 'ok' buttons? Mine only has the one.

On my 2013 SEL, there's one on each side of the steering wheel and one in the center just below the information screen.

Had to look in my manual... Without My Ford Touch, there are 3 OK buttons! Use the left steering wheel OK button. Mine has the Sony MFT with Nav, just 1 OK...

I just filled with Gas, I hold the OK button down and it goes to another screen. I usually run the screen with the 4 small screen, total miles to fill, how many miles to go, hours run and MPH..
